Sound stopped playing suddenly

Q: Sound stopped playing suddenly

I am new here & need help with this one. A couple of days ago the sound in my pc failed. It was working fine before that. I tried the usual, installing the sound driver again but it did not work.

Now I can see the driver icon in the system tray & occasionally the volume control icon as well but when I click it, a message is displayed that there are no active mixers available. Also I use AIMP2 as my music player & it has been displaying this message "cannot initialize sound engine". My speakers work fine.

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the sound card. Any ideas??? PLEASE HELP .

Btw my sound card is built into the motherboard & the motherboard is about 4-5 yrs old. Here are the specs:

Every time I try to play music in Windows Media Player no sound comes out of my speakers. I'm not sure if its just Media Player, but I'm fairly sure it's not just Media Player.

When this first started, simply turning the volume up a notch made sound come out. But the sound would stop after a minute or so. Also, it has been making my computer freeze up frequently. I've tried playing music on websites like and my computer locks up.

This just started happening today. I looked for hardware conflicts and found none. The speakers work fine. I believe it must be some sort of Malware.

This morning, the sound stopped working, however, the only sound i can get is if i go to the realtek sound manager thing by gigabyte tech. (Audio device:Realtek AC97 i think) and then start the jack sense thing. I get a few 'zap' sounds but if i play music, then the music will play with the 'zaps' but only for a second or 2, then no sound.
After the jack-sense, i get a pop up saying i needa check the front and center/subwoofer speakers, but the speakers are in-built to my monitor, so i don't know what to do...

Sound was working fine yesterday, but failed this morning.

P.S. i tried plugging in several headphones on the front of the comp, but no sound.

A:Suddenly sound stopped, help.

Okay Syzion

This is primarily due to two things:

1. Your Sound-drivers are either not there anymore.

2. Your Sound card is defective.

Check your Sound card Drivers first:

If Windows Go> Start> Control Panel > Sound Settings > I think its the General Tab it should allow you to move the sound up and down. If it "grayed out" then
your sound card drivers are missing. (sorry I am on a MAC right now)

OR-->Start>My Computer> Device Manager> Check under the Sound Card make sure there is NO yellow "?" on the Sound-card realtek..
I would right click on the Sound Card and click "Update Drivers"

Post your reply to see if the Drivers are there...

I suddenly lost sound on my computer after running without problems for months.

I checked the system settings and my volume is turned up, but when I adjust it, all I get is a beep from the internal speaker. I ran a game that makes sound continuously and plugged a headset into the speaker jack on one of the speakers to see if anything is making it that far. I got a very weak signal, but I moved the mouse around and I was definitely hearing all the sounds the computer generates, not just the CD background music.

I am running Windows XP on a Gateway 700. I think the sound card is a Creative SB Audigy. I installed a CD-R a month ago, but have been running fine. I checked all the jacks and everything is plugged in correctly.

Any ideas?

Try your headphones on the sound card.

Maybe the output stage died.

It was working one day, and then the next it wasn't. I've tried all the common fixes, like checking to see if everything is plugged in correctly, looking in Device Manager to make sure the volume is up and there are no "mute" boxes checked. Device Manager says the card is in working order. All of that, but I'm getting no sound. I know the speakers work because I'm running the sound through a Pioneer receiver and when I set it on "tuner" I can hear sound. So that's not the issue.

I'm thinking it's some kind of driver conflict or something, but I haven't added any software lately, so I don't know why things would've changed.

The bottom line is, any help you could give me would be appreciated much.

A:Sound on my PC stopped working suddenly

It would be useful to know brand, model, OS, and age of computer.
Have you looked in the device manager for red, yellow, or black flags indicating a driver problem?
If you have driven your computer to high volume for very long you may have "burned out" the sound components. In that case, if you have on-board sound, you will need to install a PCI sound card.

Onboard Realtek HD audio on the Asus P6T board.

I noticed last night when I tried to play something the sound wasn't working anymore. It hadn't been restarted in a week, so I'm not sure what could have caused that.

I have ensured playback devices are enabled and I have set both the 5.1 speakers and the C-Media USB headphone/mic audio device to default. Didn't make a difference, no sound coming out of the headphones or speakers.

In the Asus ExpressGate I can go to YouTube and my speakers work fine, so it's gotta have something to do with Windows.

I ran windows troubleshooting on Playing Audio and it says "Hardware changes might not have been detected" with a little yellow exclamation point and no other options but to close. It does say detected next to it though, so I'm not sure.

It happened all of a sudden, so I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm downloading the new Realtek audio drivers stickied at the top of this forum and hopefully that may make a difference.
I checked Device Manager in safe mode and it shows no little yellow exclamations indicating an issue. I cannot pull up Device Manager in regular mode, and I've tried to do a SFC /scannow which also doesn't work.

I also cannot get system restore point to open from the control panel, system, uninstall a program. So somethings farked up with Windows.

My sound was working earlier today. I was listening to music on youtube, and paused it in order to read something off a different website. When I went to re-play the song, my sound had suddenly stopped working.

I've tried system restore and updating drivers. Everything seems to be working correctly, but no sound will play. There are no errors in regards to the driver, card, or playing sounds.

However, when I go to the sound mixer and there is a sound playing, no green line will appear indicating volume. Same if I click on the mixer and adjust the volume.

Can anybody help me?

A:Sound suddenly stopped working.

Samething happened to me and I too have re-installed drivers. Difference I have is that I get message "C:Windows\system32\dssend.dll" and in Media player notice says "is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using original installation"...which I did but still the same. I also ger the dssend.dll message in some incoming e-mail stating picture is poor quality.....when it is not. All this happenned out of the blue, I had not installed any new programmes or devices. Anyone got any clues to resolve please.

after my lovely Alliteration, My problem is this:
Occasionally when i started up my computer, my speakers would make a HORRIBLE loud high pitched screeching noise, that would carry on, then if i turned off my PC and turned it back on, SOMETIMES it would do it, and sometimes it wouldnt.
It seemed very random.

Then it did it again, and so i restarted my computer, but the sound didn't work anymore, except it did through my microphone (which goes through a mixer into my speakers) and my keyboard (which does the same thing) also works.

In device manager everything looks good, it says the device is working correctly (creative sound blaster live! value)

I've re-downloaded drivers, but that hasn't fixed it, neither has shouting or threatening it.

Thanks lots guys,

So a few months ago, I built the computer I'm currently using. Everything ran relatively smoothly up until a day or two ago, when the audio just stopped functioning. I've done just about everything I can think of, with both speakers and headphones. I've followed up on just about every lead i've managed to find online, but I'm still open to suggestions. To walk you through exactly what I was doing leading up to the problem: I was using my computer in my room, audio functioning perfectly. I power it off and unplug everything, and carry it to a room opposite to mine. I plug it in and set up my monitor, mouse and keyboard. Now, here's the unusual part. I plugged a phone line that was connected to my into the port on the back of my computer. I'd never done that before and to be honest I was curious. Nothing happened, and while I messed with some settings for a little bit, it was uneventful. I then powered the computer off, returned it to my room, and set everything back up. Before putting on my headphones, I received a popup notification from Razer Synapse, asking me If I wanted to use my settings from the cloud or my local settings. I selected Cloud. It was at this point that I noticed that my audio had ceased to work. When I plugged in my headphones, I could sometimes get 2-3 seconds of almost clear audio, but then it would cut out again. Since then, I've uninstalled, then re-installed Razer Synapse, but It made no difference and I'm not certain it's even related. I'm in the pro... Read more

"I plugged a phone line that was connected to my into the port on the back of my computer".

Where did you plug the phone line into and what was the other end connected to?
Do you have a telephone modem installed?
What Operating System are you running?
Check Device Manager for misconfigurations.
Remove the audio device driver and reboot the system, let Windows reinstall the driver.
Check Services make sure Windows Audio Service is set to Automatic and the service is Started.

Earlier today I had my laptop connected to some speakers with a male to male jack, and everything was going fine. I unplugged that cable (no music was playing at this point, so I don't know if the problem started then or not) and put it into sleep mode. Later I woke it back up, and suddenly there no was sound. I checked the Device Manager, and the sound systems supposed are working properly, nothing's muted. I plugged a pair of headphones in, adjusted the system volume and could only hear the faintest sound when I maxed it out. Also, the little bubble, "You have plugged a device into the audio output jack" didn't pop up when I put the headphones in or out.

Actually, I just double checked the headphones, and they seem to be working decently. They are some old cheap ones, which is probably why they didn't seem to work at first. I have to find my good ones, I suppose.

What seems to be the issue?

A:Sound suddenly stopped working

Go into device manager, delete the audio devices, and reboot. Hopefully it'll redetect everything. If not, you'll want to go to computer make (HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc ) web site and download and install the drivers.

My sound has always worked, except tonight when I opened a game that I've played many times before with sound, there was none. The speaker in my dashboard has a red cross on it.
In the properties of my Realtek HD Audio it reads: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
I simply have no use for a PC with no sound. Can someone please tell me how to get it back? I've tried updating the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling it, reseting my pc but still no sound.
Thank you in advance.

I recently upgraded to DirectX 9. In this case it was not a good idea, as I've lost sound. I keep getting an error message when I shut down pertaining to Ddhelp. Searching MS, Google, and TSG, I have determined that the problem has to do with an incompatability with my soundcard Creative AWE 64, and the lack of driver support for it that will correct this problem.

Running Win 98 on a dinosaur Compaq 233 w/64 RAM (max). Running the DirectX.diag it indicates the incompatability problem. Therefore, I have determined that I must return to a previous edition of DirectX. there does not appear to be any method for doing this, other than using the extractor tool, and reinstalling an earlier version.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, ideas, experiences concerning this matter.

So briefly, my processor has 6 jacks in the back and 2 in the front to connect my speakers to. In the back there is a Green, Pink x2, Black, Grey and Blue Jacks. In the front there is a Pink and Grey Jack.

Now I have two sets of identical speakers and having only one Green jack I connected them both to the green using an adapter. So basically the same sound came from all the speakers.

Then yesterday I decided to try make it more surround sounding and I found out that the Black jack is for some sort of other speakers. So I connected them, and I set my sound options to quadrophonic. And it worked beautifully. Then I had to leave and I turned of my computer.

When I turned it back on, the speakers plugged into the green one still worked while the speakers plugged into the Black jack don't work anymore. I tried switching them around and the speakers that were plugged into the green one still worked while the black didn't. So its not something with the speakers.

I set defaults to everything and retraced my steps but nothing works. When I do the test, I set it to quadrphonic and it shows 4 speakers, then it tests each one and the plugged into the green ones make a sound, the others don't. What went wrong?

I'm working in Windows Vista Ultimate and Ihere is some info about my pc.

Hey all,

I've got an annoying problem on my hands. I just replaced my case, and when I turn on the computer, and try to listen to some music.. Theres nothing..

I was confused, so I tried turning up the volume with no luck, checked if the jacks were used correctly, they were. Finally I tried to reinstall my mobo drivers, and that didn't work either.

So I don't have any sound now..

Someone help please? I really don't to buy a new soundcard right now.

A:Onboard sound suddenly stopped working?

Changing the case might or might not have something to do with it.Is everything in the Sound and Audio devices control panel, present and correct ? Is there any new hardware or software that might be causing conflicts.Did you knock a wire loose when changing case ? If all else fails, sound cards are not toooo expensive.

I have a Gateway computer using Realtek audio and it has been fine for the past year that I've owned it. Sometime in the last 24 hours it has stopped playing sounds. Speakers are on, enabled, plugged in correctly, all devices are working, no obvious signs of conflicts etc. Nothing was changed in the hardware or software that I am aware of and sounds appear to play but nothing is heard. Speakers make a noise when plugging and unplugging them but that's all.

Only two significant things in the past 24 hours that I can think of that may have affected it somehow...

1) Tried Norton Ghost for the first time but cntr alt deleted out of it when I saw it would take 7 hours

2) Electrical storm with lots of lightening but I unplugged everything fairly early on and nothing else seems to be broken.

I am waiting for Creative to get back to me hopefully, but it's been a few days and I am anxious to figure out what is going on here. A few days ago after starting up my computer I noticed I had no sound coming out of my speakers. After checking to be sure they weren't muted or unplugged (my computer oddly stated the speakers were working, but unplugged!?) I assumed they had gone bad but since they were working perfectly the day before I kept messing around and eventually realized they were fine after plugging them direct to my ipod as well as to another speaker port in my computer. While looking at Creatives web site I did see one mention of "disabling any webcam microphone" leading me to assume there has been some conflicting issues in the past but it did not go into more detail. I had installed a new Logitech webcam 9000 a week prior to this issue and on that same day installed some of the Windows Live components. Everything had worked fine all week and I had made a few videos. Prior to this I had already been using a Logitech webcam for the whole year that I have had this computer, with no issues. I've never had a seperate mic to plug directly into the soundcard- the only thing plugged into it was the speakers.

My computer says the soundcard is working properly and is enabled. I also did a driver update search and it said I had the latest driver. But I cannot get any sound out of the card. In researching the problem I noticed several peo... Read more

The sound bars show there's sound playing, but there isn't. No it isnt muted anywhere. I have ran Microsoft's troubleshooter, but it finds no problem. I have uninstalled all audio drivers (2 drivers under AUDIO- microphone, speakers + 1 alternate "stereo mix"; 1 under SOUND/VIDEO; 1 under SYSTEM DEVICES "High Def Audio Controller") & tried even installing them straight from Toshiba's support site & from Realteks support site. By default it shows 1component under " playback", 2 components under " recording" so I've tried every combination of defaults & which is disabled, and only get the same result. I've had this same odd thing happen 1 other time a few years ago with I think my old hp laptop (possibly this one instead), and I know I tried so many billion of weird things that I do not remember at all what fixed it. Could anybody PLEASE help?
P.S. Headphone jack has never worked so I cannot try it. Also laptop stays stationary so nothing internal should have came loose

I have been having an issue recently with my Windows 8 HP laptop (i'm not too sure of the exact model at the moment) where it'll just stop playing videos (whether if streamed through the internet such as you tube or if played on the actual computer as a downloaded video) or the sound for said videos just won't play. The problem can usually be temporarily fixed by restarting my computer but it gets annoying to restart my computer constantly because a video is not playing or the sound is not working so I am trying to see if there is a permanent solution. Adobe flash player is up to date and the problem has been occurring before and after I updated flash player. Thanks to anyone who takes their time to read this a possibly attempt to help. If any more information is needed please do not be afraid to ask and thank you for helping.

A:Windows 8 HP laptop suddenly stops playing videos/sound

As the problem is both video and sound, this is more than just an "audio" problem (this forum section),

Any Flash type video/audio (such as YouTube) is related to the Flash player (and there are many reported similar problems).
A complete uninstall of the Flash Player, restart the PC and then a new install of the Flash player helps in some cases.

This is problem that just one day came into being on my laptop running Windows 7. I can't associate it with any particular update since I don't play videos or sound files frequently.

Here's what happens. Let's say I got to YouTube and play a video. The sound will work for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then it will suddenly stop. The video still plays. If I toggle mute (press it twice) or press the volume up or down, the sound comes back but it doesn't last as long. To listen to something, I have to stand ready at the volume (one click up or down) or mute (two clicks) button to press it any time the sound goes away. The same thing happens if I play an mp3 on the music player. So it's not browser plugin related. It seems either sound driver related, or even a HW issue perhaps.

I just upgraded to Windows 10, using a completely different browser and the problem is still there.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I have a soundblaster live soundcard. Periodically, the sound would stop in the middle of playing. I figured out that the card was loose so screwed the card in and the sound returned. But then stopped again. I tried putting the sound card in a different slot but still no sound. Any suggestions?

And it's not just the laptop speakers - it doesn't work when I put headphones in either.

I opened up audacity and as it was loading, all my sound that was playing cut out. I system restored my laptop and it was fixed, and thought it crashing with audacity was just a coincedence, so I reopened audacity. The sound stopped working again. I uninstalled audacity, that didn't work, so system restored it again but this time that didn't work either. I tried an even earlier date but it still didn't work.

Help please?
Thanks x

Found several similar reports over this and MS's Answers forums with no final resolution/fix to problem. Worse they are dated several years ago and nothing current.

I feel I need to emphasize one-time that this problem only concerns the Startup system sound that plays right after warm or cold boots when the system first arrives at the desktop and _only_ that sound. All other system and program sounds work okay.

Up to 1 or 2 months ago for a couple years now the Startup sound has been playing just fine--then I all of a sudden realized it was no longer playing at all. All other system and program sounds/audio play fine.

1. SFC finds nothing needing fixing.
2. Startup sound check box in Sounds tab is and has always been checked though I do not recall when MS made this a security issue protecting it.
3. Talked to nVIDIA and learned nothing new.
4. Talked to Crucial and learned nothing new.
5. Talked to MS and learned nothing new. They are unaware of problem...even though for some it is a couple years old. MS's best recommendation though, which I might still try at some point because "what could possibly go wrong?" is to run an In-Place Upgrade on Windows 7 which supposedly will restore the OS leaving my programs/data and some customizations(?) in tact.
6. Actual Startup sound wave file apparently resides inside a .dll which iirc is threaded here in sevenforums.

About four days ago as of the time of writing this my computer stopped playing sound after a restart with updates installed. That is actually not quite true. The volume mixer shows that it is playing sound, but no actual sound comes out of whatever device I plug in. Speakers don't work, headphones don't work. I know the devices themselves work as I have plugged them into other computers and they worked there, but on this specific computer no such luck. It is not muted. The drivers show that they are working properly. I've reinstalled the drivers anyway. I've set the default device to that of my speakers. I have updated everything from BIOS to Chipset.

After that I tried searching for some clue or advice on the internet to no avail. Then I tried the windows troubleshooter and Microsoft fixit tool. Neither could find anything wrong.

The computer came new out of the box with two sound card drivers installed. Which are IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and AMD High Definition Audio Device. Which are both under Sound, Video and game controllers in the device manager. Under Audio inputs and outputs it shows the following: Digitial Output (S/PDIF) (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC), Speakers/Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC ), and Stereo Mix (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). It is the speakers/headphones I want to use as that is my default device. When I click on those the driver is listed as Audio Endpoint and that the device is working properly.

A:Computer stopped playing sound after update

First thing, check the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device. If it has changed to some other device that could be the problem.

Your PC sound "card" (actually a chip on the motherboard) is the IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The AMD High Def is the audio for HDMI. Which is another issue, if you have an HDMI cable plugged in, Windows will automatically change the default audio playback device to the HDMI.

If the playback device is set properly to the "Speakers", try resetting the sound by uninstalling the IDT in the Device Manager (DO NOT also uninstall the drivers). Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. If there were some Windows corruption with the sound this will fix it.

Hi, one day I started my laptop and the SSD in it (MZ-7PC256D) suddenly stopped working.

What options do I have to get it working, or atleast recover the data in it.

I tried putting it in another laptop or checking in BIOS, it's simply not getting detected.

The SSD gets super hot when I connect it to the laptop and start it.

Not to be harsh, but when you get it working again thru what ever means you might have to do, make an image on a flash drive or what ever you choose and then, if the SSD has failed completely, install a new one and use the image to bring you back to the time of your last backup.

Hi all,

For the past year or so I have happily shared the internet connection as well as the printer and numerous files but today when I booted them up computer 2 - the one not connected to the modem - simply gave me a "Limited or no connectivity", I'd had the problem before and had in the past easily fixed it by repairing the connection however now it simply hangs on renewing ip address.

I've tried restarting computers, disabling and enabling connections, nothing I do seems to work. Any help is greatly appreciated and any more information I need to provide just ask.

Thanks in advance, Andrew

I just went to check on firewall on host computer, when I tried to open up firewall settings i recieved something along the lines of "Windows firewall and internet connection sharing are not currently running, would you like to start running them?" My DVD-RW, after 4 years of faithful service, has suddenly stopped being able to write data on blank DVD-R's. It reads data fine, but writing is suddenly a problem and it says disk inexcessable. Coincidently, or not, it just started with a new batch of DVD-Rs. They are an exact match to the ones I have been using before and I even went out and bought a new batch, but they don't work either.

I have been getting error messages previously with my "Drag & Drop CD -burner". I believe that it said something like needing to update the driver's firmware???

I run Windows XP on a Sony system. The drive info is as follows (don't know the specific manufacturer though):

Can this be fixed? or is it time for a new DVD-RW?

UPDATE: I just updated (supposedly) the drivers Firmware using However, when I try to write to the disks, it gives me a "Error Writing Disk" message.

I've been using the Microsoft Wireless Broadband router (MN-500) to connect to the internet. This afternoon, while I was away, the wireless connection was suddenly lost. The internet is fine, because when i plug my computer directly into the router (via ethernet), i am able to access the internet. However, the router does not seem to broadcast a wireless signal for the LAN.

I've reset the router, both manually and via the software and reconfigured the network. After this process, the Wireless Network sometimes appears momentarily in Windows...but the connection drops before it can connect.

All the lights on the router light up as normal and it indicates that both the wireless LAN and the WAN are working properly. I have no idea why I can't connect to the network wirelessly though...

Any thoughts?

Hey guys,

So I put together a new PC running Windows 10 Pro around 3 months ago and everything was working perfect till 2 days ago when my mic suddenly stopped working. I use a Steelseries Siberia V2 headset and the headphones work fine, but the mic is not picking up any noise at all. I tried plugging in both the back and front ports and my realtek always detects that a mic has been plugged in, but it simply won't work. I thought maybe my mic got busted so I also tried using an A4 Tech headset that I had lying around in the office but it has the same issue, the mic won't work. I looked around online for possible solutions and tried the following with no luck:
Ensured the mic was set as the default device and that its volume settings were maxed out.Tried disabling all sound effects (noise suppression, acoustic echo cancellation etc).Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on my motherboard's webpage: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1151 - GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0) Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on realtek's own webpage: RealtekUninstalled all audio drivers and let Windows auto-install drivers.I even uninstalled all realtek drivers and tried using the standard "high definition audio device drivers."

Good morning everyone, and a Merry Christmas!

I'm going to try to make this as brief as possible, while still including every detail I possibly can.

Today I received a few cool gadgets for Christmas that I wanted to install on my PC. I realized I was short on USB slots, so I tried to install a secondary set of USB slots. I plugged it in wrong twice in a row, due to me misreading my motherboard. After a few restarts, my computer wouldn't boot. I attempted to clear my CMOS, which didn't help. I then turned off my power supply's switch, then turned it back on. After I did this my PC booted, but I was fronted with a boot screen that said the CMOS settings were wrong. I was confused as to what this meant, and my options were F1 to Bios, or F2 to default settings and continue. After booting, my Razer Deathadder quit working. Now, at this point, I'm not sure why exactly I did this, but I reinstalled Windows. I am using Windows XP Pro -32 bit. After reinstalling all my drivers, I realized that NONE of my USB ports were working. My keyboard, mouse, webcam, nothing worked. I updated my Windows, BIOS, drivers, everything is new.

In the screen for Hardware, all my Root USB kits have exclamation points, and it says they aren't functioning properly. I have NO idea what the hell is going on, and if anyone has any ideas or comments, please please share them with me.

I'm thinking that when I reset the CMOS perhaps something malfunctioned on my mainboard a... Read more

If anyone could help, i'd appreciate it.

I used my PC with this problem a couple of days ago, and everything worked fine. The internet ran smoothly, no problems, etc.

Now when i start it up it takes 2 minutes to change from the welcome screen, and when it does, a black screen greets me with just a white arrow. I have to start task manager using ctrl alt del and open chrome; then, after another long wait, my PC is able to start it's desktop.

The internet problem is this. I connect wonderfully to the internet on the lap-top i'm using now, but my PC can't do it. Two days before it was running incredibly smoothly. Now when i hover over the connections tray in the right hand corner it says "the dependency group or service was unable to start." Then when i diagnose the problem, it says that the DHCP service is unable to start. I try to restart it, but i can't.

Then, following the advice of some-one on some other board when googling this problem, i was told to uninstall my network adapter. I did. Now it can't find anything resembling the internet.

I ran a scan on the PC with Norton 360. It didn't pick anything up.

Here are my specs if need be:

Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Phenom X3 Triple Core Processor
3G Ram
320GB Memory
8200 Integrated graphics
2.13 GHZ.

Any help at all would be nice.

Actually, the exact make/model of the MB is what we need to know as well.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Ok a few days ago port forwarding just stopped working, with the exception of a couple ports (the remote desktop port and a netBIOS port, and possibly a couple others).

The first thing I did was check that it was set up correctly, and it is. Then I checked both firewalls (router and windows), and both were off (as is normal for me).

After that I tried DMZ and Static NAT, both failed. The two exceptions I mentioned above would still work, but nothing else.

I updated my router's firmware - nothing.

I've tried disabling my antivirus, still nothing.

Then I turned the firewall on the router on, nothing, the windows firewall... and I got something! With the windows firewall on, ports time out. However if I add a port to the windows firewall exception list that port will say its closed...

Windows Firewall + Block port = Time out
Windows Firewall + Allow port = Closed

Now how does that make any sense???

So it seems to me the problem must be somewhere in Windows... but I can't think of anything... I have no other firewall installed, antivirus hasn't blocked ports before (and disabling it doesn't do anything anyways)... any ideas?

BTW, just before this happened, I had Apache installed and was doing some testing with it. But since then I've uninstalled it. But thats the only significant thing that happened before everything got blocked. Also my router is a Westell Versalink 327w (came free with DSL lol). Any ideas at all will be apreciated.

Moreover, to disable USB ports, go to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers button in the Device Manager. Right click each individual one and click disable. For each one. Then after each one is disabled, start from the top and do the same thing but click Enable this time. Hey all,

My microphone suddenly stopped working last night. I am a gamer and use it for voice chat.

I have a Dell XPS L702X (Laptop) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. It has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40 GHz.

When I run a diagnostic it detects no errors and it says all of my drivers are up to date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and checking to see if the devices were enabled. My friends say they CAN hear me, but it sounds muffled (like a tin can/talking into a pillow). I tried unplugging my headset mic and using the built in onboard mic and it picked up no sound at all. I'm hoping to get this issue sorted out soon.

I will be the first to admit I am not the most PC literate, so if anyone who is available to help needs more information, I would be glad to provide it.

Hi huusch01,

Welcome to Seven forums.

First of all please let us know if the mic next to the webcam is not working or the port on the side of the system. Please check both of them and let us know which one is causing the issue.

If you are using a mic headset then check the same headset on different system to isolate the issue.

Also, check this link below which would be helpful in resolving this issue:

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

So my router crashed earlier, but after it was restarted every device but my computer was able to reconnect, however my pc decided no, it wasn't going to work, it says that the ethernet connection is an "unidentified network". I've tried reinstalling drivers but I get nowhere nad I just don't get why the internet would just stop working out of nowhere like that?!! It's so frustrating!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (running windows 10 of course)

Marvey, this worked for me one time.

In the Start Button, the top left of your screen shows the "hamburger." It looks like three lines. Click it and select Settings. From there, select Network and Internet. Make sure that you're actually connected.

A:USB ports suddenly stopped working!!

Tell us the brand and model of computer, whether a desktop or a laptop, and the location of the usb ports... whether front or back, or whether we are talking about a powered external hub, or a multimedia box in the middle of the computer which has a 9 in 1, 15 in 1, or similar memory card reader with USB ports.
Are the USB ports built into the case, or on a pci card slot on the back of the computer.
Generally, USB ports do not fail. There are a few times when they do because any electronics made with chips, thyristors, and printed circuits can fail. But USB ports are among the most rare of failures... except when you are using multiports.
On inexpensive USB connections, they all share one connector... If you have four or five ports on one connector to the motherboard, then those in use will reduce the power that is accessible on lower quality units.

Hi everybody! I hope you're all doing well tonight.

My self-built computer that's around 1 year old has run into a strange problem. It was working fine until just two days ago, when it suddenly stopped posting. It'll power on, all the lights and fans will turn on and spin and whatnot, but I can't even get the BIOS screen to show up.

I just recently purchased new ram, processor, and heatsink. I've switched out and swapped the ram in every combination I could (1 stick, 2 sticks, 4 sticks, different slots), tested it with the new cpu (I went from the old q6600 b3 to the one with g0 stepping), and installed the new heatsink, and have the same exact response.

If I unplug and detach the graphics card, there aren't any beeps at startup.

The last thing my computer was doing while it still worked was render and burn a DVD. It was on and running at about 50% processing power for almost the whole day and night.

I am at a complete loss here, and my only conclusion is that I need a new motherboard. I unfortunately picked this one off of ebay, so I don't believe I can RMA it. I was just hoping that someone here can throw out some suggestions or advice.

Thanks for your time! My specs are as follows:

Asus p5n32-e plus
q6600 b3 / q6600 g0
Tuniq Tower 120 / Thermaltake V1
8800 GTX
2 gb ram (OCZ 8500, Corsair Dominator 8500)
2 x SATA HD, 1 x PATA
Samsung Syncmaster DVDRW
PC Power & Cooling Silencer Quad 720w
Antec 900 case

I've looked everywhere for a solution to this, but everyones problem seems to be slightly different to mine, and nothing I've tried works anyway...

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 (I know it's pretty s**t) and the cd drive for it is a TSST
TS-L532B and a couple of weeks ago it just stopped recognising any disks (audio, CD, DVD etc). The computer recognises the drive (it appears in My Computer) but when I put a CD in I can hear it whizz around try to read it, but it never works...

I tried download some new firmware for it but no luck...

If windows recognizes the drive then the drive is probably shot.

So just to preface I'm completely new to these forums and I'm at best only an intermediate level in terms of being tech savvy so I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help.

I run Windows 7 64bit and my network adapter is a 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller"
Never had internet problems before last night
So last night the internet on my desktop stopped working while I was watching a youtube video. There were (to my knowledge) no software updates or anything else taking place. The internet just suddenly stopped. So naturally I went and turned my router on and off a few times and when I realized that didn't work I checked the internet on my laptop and found out that it was still working and figured the problem is obviously with my desktop.

So far I've tried,
1) opening cmd.exe and typing ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew
2) Disabling and re-enabling my network adapter
3) Downloading and installing the latest driver for my network adapter from the Realtek website.
4) Running the trouble shoot through windows. All this tells me is that "the default gateway is not available"
5) I ran a system restore to a point about a month ago and the problem was still there.
6) I ran my computer in safemode with the network enabled and the problem was still there.
7) The ethernet cable I'm using for my desktop is fine I tried it with my laptop and it worked and plugged in a usb wireless card to my desktop and the problem persisted (just without a wire)

I suspect your LAN card has fried. If you are able to, try running diagnostics on the device itself (there's probably an ability to do this from "Device Manager"). If you can't, then I don't know how you could test for it being dead other than if when you plug in an Ethernet cord the clear connector doesn't light up green (mine does on our Dell Dimension 3000 XP Desktop to communicate to me that it IS working, IS plugged in and IS receiving proper connection from and to the Modem/Router).

If yours does have an LED as described and it DOESN'T turn the clear plastic connector of the LAN cable green, then it's dead and there's no bringing it back.

And if/when you confirm it is fried, you need to replace it. They're generally inexpensive if you don't want it to be WiFi or anything other than your standard 802.11g 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN. You can probably pick one up without the "bells and whistles" for $30 or less online these days. They work just as good as the $100 ones, just without some "extras".

The other thing to suspect would be your MOBO. Bridges/connections on them can and sometimes do fry out, effecting other components they distribute the power too. Hopefully that's not the problem because they're in the $100+ range to replace.
EDIT: The "Default Gateway" is obtained by your Modem/Router. The fact you are getting "not available" means that there is no communication between the computer and the Modem/Router. Since y... Read more

Hello, first-timer here. I'm running Windows XP Home with AOL 9.0 and IE7. I use a dial-up modem and I am not part of any network. IE7 has been up and running for several months with no problem. A couple of days ago, all of a sudden, and after I had made NO changes to the system or changed any settings, IE7 began having trouble accessing the Internet. When you bring up the IE7 panel, it says 'Internet Explorer cannot display the web page'. Sometimes, however, it would start to work again for awhile after I rebooted, but then fail again shortly. At the suggestion of users on another help forum I ran an anti-malware/spyware program (SpywareDoctor). It found some infections and cleaned them up (after I purchased the product), but the problem still persists. Another suggestion I tried was to install Mozilla Firefox as a browser. That also doesn't work. It says 'the proxy server is refusing connections'. I also spent six hours last night with AOL Live Help. They gave me several procedures to try such as a browser fix and 'one-click fixes', but their procedures told me to click on non-existent options on menus that I was supposed to see.As of now, the only way I can access the Internet is through the AOL Welcome page, which is a colossal pain.At the suggestion of Frank on a Microsoft IE7 forum, I am including the following Hijack-this log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 12:54:24 PM, on 1/21/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explo... I am new to the forum so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section with my question. (Writing this from my phone so hoping comes out ok! Lol)
My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. (Though I'm sure his many viruses had a lot to do with his other issues!)

Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

What does this mean? Will I need a new adapter or is there something we have not tried yet that will work?? The phone is no longer sa... Read more

I was reading manga until 2 A.M. on Saturday, and then my internet connection stopped.
It was working fine until then, I did not move the wireless router anywhere.. I was just sitting on my chair and reading.

It's been about 4 days.

I have a:
Linksys Wireless -B USB Network Adapter ( 2.4 GHz 802.11 ) model: WusB11v4

Linksys Wireless -G 2,4 GHZ 4 Mbps Broadband Router, model: WRT54G v.3

and a DSL Router
Model: A90 - 22001-04

When I check my network connections, it says I am connected, but I can't receive an IP address, nor can I even repair them. I receive a "TCP/IP" error, and so I'm unable to receive an IP address for the internet.

My Local Area Connection is able to receive an IP Address, but my 1394 Connection sends 0 packets, and receives 0 packets, and has no IP Address.

The DSL and Broadband router seem to work, because I'm able to use another computer downstairs. (I turned off both routers, and when I checked this computer, the one with the internet, it displayed showing no connection, and when I turned on the routers, I was connected to the internet.

I think my Wireless Router may have burnt out. I've had it for at least 4 years. But recently, when I was adjusting the router to get a signal of wireless strength, I waved it up in the air, I was able to see the "Strength Signal." But now I don't see anything. And when I connect to the internet, I can't connect to the Server.

My father's broadband was working fine until a week ago. He is with Post Office broadband. He complained that it was not fetching pages. here is what i have seen and done:

1: His pc would not fetch pages in any browser, IE, firefox, Chrome.
2: Ping works fine, nslookup is fine, telnet is fine. netstat shows that connection is established to google, etc.
3: i reset his router and every now and again i could fetch a page or two very quickly before it ground to a halt again, i.e all browsers state that they connect and that they are requesting data, but just hangs.
4: I assumed his pc at fault so tried my laptop, exactly the same behaviour - wired and wireless.
5: I tried another router (that definetly works), same behaviour.
6: have tried opendns addresses, same behaviour.
7: spend hours on the phone to Post office tech support, they say the line checks out fine, fast, no noise, etc.. they say that there must be a problem with his wiring and that they will not send out an engineer. I have tried turning his router off for some hours then leaving in the master socket to no avail.
8: taken all other phones/sky out of other sockets, changed filters.

the pc's i have tried both run xp, i am yet to try a live linux distro. his router is a zyxel, my router is a bt issue router (sorry i don't have models with me i'm not at home).

Hi all, I recently got Windows 7 64 bit.
the day i got the machine home and running, i connected my USB harddisk and installed some stuff i had backed up from it.

But suddently i dont see the USB drives when i connect them, i have 2 and none of them is detected, or will they are detected and the "Safelly Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon comes up in my right lower corner as it should, and when i click it my devices is shown by their propper names and i can safely remove them aswell. but they are not shown under "my computer" and my anti virus dosnt scan them aswell.

Tho if i plug in my USB flash pin from my key ring it finds it, anti virus scans it and it shows up just as it should.

Can anyone help me solve this as im really confused by now.

Welcome to SF, Jimkromann.

Could be a driver conflict.

Type MSCONF, go to startup tab, and uncheck everything EXCEPT microsoft items (for testing purposes).

Reboot and see if your usb devices are recognized.

Alright, new to the boards and apparently a much bigger newb then I thought, because this one stumps me.

The problem is that suddenly my monitor stopped getting a signal from my rig. I didn't download any new software, I didn't buy any new hardware- just all of the sudden I'm surfing the web and my moniter turns off like I've hit the sleep button.

And it has yet to turn back on. I've tried rebooting, powering down completely then rebooting, opening the BIOS (which doesn't work because the screen doesn't even show me that), removing and re-inserting the video card, and plugging in the monitor cable into my laptop to see what happens (works fine).

As for details about my rig. It's an HP Pavilion running an AMD 64 dual core and a nVidia 9800 GT. It's an LCD moniter, VGA- though I'm using a DVI to VGA converter to get from the card to the monitor. Don't think it's a compatibility issue thought because, as I've said, I've run this set-up for a long time now with nothing wrong.

In DirectSound everything is fine.
In Windows' sound manager, the preview button is greyed out.

Hi there,

Recently, my computer has been very strange... I have been having unwitnessed BSODs (showing up in the reliability monitor), lots of hardware errors in the reliability monitor and multiple programs stopping working. The troubleshooting steps I took to try to solve these issues were: updating all drivers, testing ram with memtest86+ (8 passes OK), testing the hard drive with Sea Tools (all ok) and refreshing windows 10.

A couple of days ago, I experienced my start menu, Cortana all ?apps? etc. not working. So, I logged off, only to find a black screen with a curser! The only way to turn off was to do a hard shut down. After turning back on again, I got the usual windows start up screen and normal ?AVG watchdog starting up? text (see attachment). However, my computer freezes at this stage. AVG stops at ??finished? and the computer freezes!

After trying to boot into safe mode, I simply get the black screen and curser again.

Luckily, I have all files backed up and other computers to use, but I am really concerned about the root cause of my problems as I have had similar errors in previous installs of windows.

Would these problems be caused by hardware? I am happy to clean install if necessary? but I would like to find out the causes of my problems first.

Thank you very much for your help.

Yesterday morning I turned on my PC and the internet did not work for some strange reason. I was really upset since I had this problem just last month and I had to pay to get it fixed. Anyway, I kept trying to open browsers etc but it wouldnt go to the web pages, the internet was simply not responding well. I tried everything, and I really mean EVERYTHING. My last resorts were using this powerful tool I found called TCP/IP Repair, which is a small tool that resets and repairs your IP and what not. On top of that, I seperately also tried other small repair techniques, but they didnt work even after I rebooted. I ended up just doing a system restore using ERUNT again, but as usual it didnt work either. Or did it..., today I turned my PC on and decided to give it another try for the hell of it. To my shock, for some reason, the internet is now working. I dont know what it was, but something must have repaired it again. I rebooted my PC many times yeterday after trying all these options, and none of them work. For some reason, it now works after leaving it off for a night.

My fear now is that what if the problem comes back when I restart my PC again? What could this be? What should I do? Any advice please?

Thanks :)

A:Internet suddenly stopped responding, what could it be?

Please reply with the make/model of your PC as well as the make/model of your network card make/model of your broadband modem and/or router. Is your PC connected via WIRED or WIRELESS?

Have you recently installed anything, installed any updates, updated any drivers or changed any Windows settings PRIOR to this problem occuring?

Have you scanned your PC for viruses or malware? What mfg/version of anti-virus and/or Firewall software do you use.

Please reply - but also post your original message to:

and run the instructions on this site as we first need to rule out a virus or malware as a possible cause to your problem.

Try unplugging all the power and let it sit overnight. Then plug in and try again in the morning. I've seen this work on occasion when all the USB ports suddenly don't work. For that matter, if simply unplugging AC doesn't work, might be worth pulling out any CMOS battery too.

okay, lets see if i can explain this in a coherent manner. a few days ago my cd burner was working fine, but now when i go into my computer the drive isn't in there. in the device manager there are three errors, see below

in all of them, it says "the device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed." it's a plug and play thing, so i don't' have any driver disks, and i tried removing the drive and getting windows to re install it but it's still the same. when it was re installing it, windows didn't really seem to go through all the motions, if you understand what i mean. it took a super short time, so i know something messed up during that. i've checked to make sure the wires are all connected.

i don't have another cd drive to use, i used the burner to read cd and everything else, so basically i'm screwed without it.

last week i had some problems with my computer not starting up, but i managed to get that fixed by screwing around in the advance trouble shooting options. everything was unclicked, so i clicked it all and have been slowly unclicking it again. take a look and see if i messed anything up

is that okay? i don't know. and now since that starting up incident the internet won't play movies. i doubt the burner and all this are connected, but maybe i messed something up. also, i did a spy ware sweep with a bullet proof soft program, so maybe something... Read more

Hi everyone, I've been using a D-link DIR-615 router successfully to connect to the internet for about 7 weeks. Up until now, it was working perfectly, both wirelessly and wired. It's also using the latest firmware (4.00).

The internet status LED on the front of the router is orange instead of green. When accessing the admin panel, it shows a blank IP address so I believe it's having trouble getting an IP address from the modem.

I've tried rebooting it numerous times and still the internet light remains orange and it's not working. I've even tried restoring it to the factory settings but to no avail. The internet works fine if I connect to the modem directly so it's definately the router at fault.

Does anyone know why it would suddenly stop working after such a short time? I'm out of ideas.

Last night, I was playing World of Warcraft and my keyboard suddenly started malfunctioning. I figured that it was becoming unresponsive because of losing battery power, so I replaced the batteries (It is a wireless keyboard.) However, when I put the new batteries in, it started acting odd, if that is a good way to put it.

For example, if I typed "M", it would input "MNH", if I typed "H", it would input "HNM". If I typed "O', it would type "Ol;," and if I typed "i", it would type "i000000000(repeating0s)".

I recently had a virus, but that was all cleared up (I purchased McAfee and removed it easily. I checked my own HiJackThis log, but that's only because I'm familiar with the processes that run on my computer. I posted my HiJackThis log before I checked it myself, but it had been a day and I read a tutorial and did it myself. There are no longer any odd processes left (There were only 3, one disabling Task Manager, one disabling Command Line, and one disabling Registry Edit.) I ran a virus scan once more in both Safe Mode and normally.

I tried replacing the keyboard, I went out and bought a brand new Belkin media keyboard, but it did not work at all. The computer would recognize it, and the drivers were all installed, but it just could not input anything. I tried both keyboards on my second computer (The one I am using now) and they both worked just fine. I can still use my other computer ju... Read more

In this form I hope to solve PC errors, thanks for the help everyone!

I've a lot of PCs, all of whom have Windows 7 Enterprise and XP dual boot.

Nowadays, suddenly in many PCs both the OSs stopped booting, but I'll query about Windows 7 in this forum.

When Windows 7 starts to boot, as soon as the 'glasses' of the Windows logo appears, Windows 7 reboots.

On booting from safe mode, the restart happens after classpnp.sys is loading/loaded. I tried renaming that file, but then the restart happens on disk.sys, on moving that file too, it happens with fvevol.sys.

I tried to enabling boot logging (from F8), but there's no ntbtlog file in the Windows installation directory.

Please help me solve this PC problem!

A:Windows 7 suddenly stopped booting.

Welcome to SevenForums!

You mentioned you have many PC's with the same problem. The first thing I would look for is any updates that were installed on the machines shortly before the problems started.

If the PC's have System Restore active you might want to boot using a Install or Repair disc and restore to an earlier date.

Also try running Startup Repair, Startup Repair You may have to run it three times, booting between each run.

I try to never touch any machines that are dual boot, sorry I don't really have a lot of suggestions.

Hi everyone,

Big problem is at hand, all my games have stopped working under Vista Home Premium.
One game runs only but with physics glitches and slowdown issues, thats Crysis.

I noticed this when I wanted to play Racedriver Grid, and it wouldn't start. So I thought maybe the game needs to be reinstalled, but no it didnt work. I tried every patch, every fix that the techie's at Codemasters said, but no.
Then after not being able to fix it in about 3 hours I gave up and wanted to play something else. And that game didn't work either.

Now before anyone asks, what I installed....nothing. No driver updates, no anti-virus, the machine isn't even connected to the internet. And one night I was playing and the next morning nothing worked.
All the games are in the processes list but they seem to be idle, they always have the same size in the memory and the same CPU usage percent.
Please help, if anyone encountered this problem.

My machine is a:
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi3845
Intel Quad Core 2,4
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT

On a previously fine PC, I noticed the usb cable for my Palm Pilot had fallen out (so that's why I couldn't connect to it!)

So, I foolishly plugged the usb cable in. The screen froze, had to press reset to reboot.

On rebooting my ISDN adaptor had a cross on it, indicating it wasn't enabled, it was IMPOSSIBLE to restart it. So I deleted it in device wouldn't delete "the device has failed to respond in a timely fashion".

Then I realised all USB connected peripherals were not responding, ie isdn adaptor & printer! Everything I've tried has failed, switched ports, cables, nothing is detected when a usb cable is plugged in. So I was stuck with no internet connection, until I reinstalled my old PCI modem. Please guys, any advice would be much appreciated. I'm concerned something I did plugging that cable in has fried all my usb ports on my mobo

Hi, I'm sure this is not the most uncommon topic brought up on the sound and audio board but I checked and didn't see anything that sounded helpful - the audio on my laptop suddenly stopped working!

I was watching a youtube video with my headphones, all was going fine, I paused the video and walked away for a moment then came back and the sound no longer worked. I unplugged the headphones and still no. I tried restarting the computer and still no. I checked the device manager and it says my sound devices are working properly. Everything is unmuted.

I do recall this problem happening once of twice in the past and its always been when I had my headphones plugged in so I really think its got something to do with them or the jack. The problem always seemed to fix itself eventually and the sound would come back. I'd like to get this figured out and not have this problem anymore. Does anyone think this could be a hardware issue? My laptop is barely a year old. Its a Toshiba L655 running Windows 7.

Any tips or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!

A:Soud Suddenly Stopped Working

I shut my laptop down for the night and just tried it again this morning, the sound is now back.

I would still appreciate any tips/advice for what may be happening. I'm sure it will happen again. Restarting does not help but apparently shutting down over night does?

Hey guys,
I own a Toshiba U500, bought it some months ago. Lately, it's been randomly crashing, and now, whenever I try to boot it up, Windows stops at the flag loading scene. Safe mode works perfectly, and I have tried startup repairing without success. I have also tried repeating the process from the installation DVD and it has failed as well. The last thing I tried was restoring the system to an earlier state (four days before), but it didn't work either. Any ideas?
Thank you all in advance.
These are the computer specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
4GB RAM Memory
Intel HD Graphics (not useful here, but whatever)
I have NOD32 v4 installed, but I don't think it's a virus issue, since I haven't installed or downloaded anything new lately.
A quick answer would be appreciated.
It doesn't shut down properly either.

I tried to play Lord of the rings battle for middle earth: rise of the witch king the other day and all of the sudden it didn't work. When i tried to load, the regular about half screen logo came up to do the initial load, but before it went into the game full screen it closed, a window came up and said Battle for Middle has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly and the game automatically closes. I tried to load multiple times, reinstall, restart my computer, i even got a whole new disk/CD key still didn't work. Any ideas why or how to solve it.

Newer PC with two HP dvd1270 drives, W7pro. Recently I discovered that neither appears to work. If a dvd or CD is inserted in either drive, the drive light comes on for a few seconds and then nothing. The drives do not show up on my COMPUTER page but they do appear in Device Manager. Whatever happened to them, it appears to have happened at the same time. Any thoughts?

I have an XPS 13 that I wanted to use for work this weekend, the power adapter just stopped working. It's done this a couple of times in the past for a short period, but this time it's been for 6 hours or more.
I wasted over an hour on that *** "" website trying to submit a support ticket or something, but of course you avoid wasting time and money for contacting customers.
It is still under warranty. What do I do????

A:My USB port suddenly stopped working.

Hi Turbonis!
This article from Microsoft support page may help you understand and fix the issue through a few steps like scanning for hardware changes and resetting the USB controller:
If not, then it could be that the USB ports have just died. For that, you'll need to take your PC to a professional to determine the damage.
Best of luck!

All the USB Ports were working just fine (two still are, the one with this keyboard and mouse plugged into it.. but I haven't UNPLUGGED them since this problem started so I'm NOT going to do that now, JUST IN CASE, those ports stop working too and then I have absolutely NO ACCESS to my computer at that point. ) and everything was how it normally was.  I had just plugged in a flash drive and removed data from that drive, unplugged it thru the eject button and I also had an external drive plugged in later and it worked and ejected just fine) and then OUT OF NOWHERE now it the USB ports REFUSE to work!
I'll plug in the device, I'll hear the NOISE on the computer that lets you know it's plugged in but then NOTHING happens and it does NOT get recognized in the My Computer/Devices folder!  I have tried ALL the available ports and NONE of them work!  I tried my devices on another computer and they work perfectly fine.  It's THIS computer!  And it's only a year and half old!!! And I bought it BRAND NEW!
I NEED THESE PORTS TO WORK!!  It is how I TRANSFER my Family's Pictures from the camera and then I BACK THEM UP on an EXTERNAL DRIVE.  I was just about to DO THAT when everything went wonky.    This computer is like the HEART of the media for our Family and I can't have this happening!    I'm sooo UPSET right now!

A:The USB Ports *SUDDENLY* Stopped Working in my De...

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I am assuming that the two USB ports that are working are on the back of the computer.  That the two other back ones along with the front ones are not working.  Possibly there is a conflict with the hardware information stored in the CMOS which is preventing all the USB ports from working.  I would suggest you try clearing the CMOS to see if that will correct the problem you are having.  On page #26 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual show the location of the coin cell CMOS battery.  The battery's socket will either have a little tab to eject the battery or a slot in which you can use a small screw driver to lightly pry up the edge the battery.  With the machine unplugged remove the battery and press the power button for 15 seconds.  Then reinstall the battery, plug and then boot up the computer to see if the problem is resolved.  It is normal after clearing the CMOS to have to enter the time & date when the computer is booted  up.
The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.

Last night I was doing my usual gaming on my PC when I started getting popups about USB drives malfunctioning. I didn't think much of them at the time. Later on during the night, my USB mouse stopped working. I didn't think much of it and I switched it to a free port. It started working again. Then trouble started.

I plugged my headset into another free port (it had been plugged into my Xbox 360, it was working fine beforehand) and started to watch an episode of a TV show. The sound was horrendous. It wasn't the file and it was not my headset, as I tested it again on my Xbox and was working fine. I switched USB ports. It didn't work. Then my mouse stopped working, and my keyboard. Funnily enough, my USB phone charger still showed it was charging my phone, and it still does right now.

I restarted my computer, and at the POST screen it said a keyboard error had occurred or one was not connected. When I start my computer with the keyboard plugged in, the lights flash and the backlight comes on (it is an illuminated keyboard, so the blue lights beneath the keys work for some reason) but none of the keys registered. I had to dig out an old PS2 keyboard to get my computer to even get past the POST screen.

I did some reading around and saw a simple fix of turning off your computer and unplugging it from all power sources, so I left it unplugged for 10 hours while I was at work with the CMOS battery removed. I got home and plugged it back in with just the keybo... Read more

I was just browsing the net when all of a sudden internet lost connection.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition
I tried these solutions, but didn't work:
---reboot pc
---turn off the modem, wait 10 minutes and turn it back on
---ipconfig /release, /renew in admin mode
---built-in Windows troubleshooting
---updated drivers
---use different ethernet cables

I contacted a floormate (I'm in college) yet his wired internet works. I have tried wireless. It worked.
I have been using the connection for months and this is the first time it has happened.

Here is a screen shot of my ipconfig /all
