Cant get my replacement HDD to Install Windows Vista on my Samsung R510 Laptop !!!!!

Q: Cant get my replacement HDD to Install Windows Vista on my Samsung R510 Laptop !!!!!

Hey all
Recently my internal WD Scorpio blue 320GB Hard drive broke on my 3 year old samsung r510 laptop. it made the classic buzzing noise (i also dropped an external HDD so i know what it sounds like)

anyway i bought a new one, same make but 250GB and put it in my laptop. When using the "system recovery media" supplied by Samsung to install Vista, i got the following error when selecting a drive to install to;
"This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

when i click on the hard drive partition and try to click next, i get this message;
"Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation."
Anyway this drove me nuts. Here is what i have done already to no avail:

1) Followed microsoft support advice for the errors. I Formatted the disk, Deleted it, partitioned it, restarted the laptop repeated again and again. still nothing.
2)Changed the order of the BOOT devices in the BIOS menu. (the laptops BIOS menu options are pretty limited and ive tried changing what i can, but still nothing.
3)Used an official Vista from my Tower Comp in the laptop to see if it would install. still nothing.
4)plugged the hard drive into my tower. The tower is pretty old and still has IDE connected hard drives. when booting up the tower, it obviously booted up the new HD first so i put in the samsung recovery media disk and installed windows with no problem what so ever. everything worked. Turned off the tower and unplugged the HD and the tower booted up normally and everything was as normal.
5)placed the HD back into my lappy after installing windows from the tower, and it continues to boot, asks to boot in safe mode, then when i select an option it keeps restarting.
6)when i put the recovery disk back in the lappy, i return to the install screen and the select drive screen, and continue to get the same errors as mentioned above.

THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!! could anyone please help?. some tech guy at a computer store said they re install windows for 30 but i need the Windows Key, and thats been scratched and illegible. Any help would be VERY VERY much appreciated. thanks

Hello, I am trying to do a fresh install of windows on my Samsung R510 Laptop.

The screen is completely broken and has been totally removed. I use an external monitor in order to use the laptop.

The LCD connector is no longer connected to the motherboard.

However, the external monitor does not become active/receive a signal until the laptop boots to the Windows Log On screen. I cannot get the external monitor to display the BIOS/boot settings and have tried everything I can think of and searched the internet long and hard for a solution.

I have disconnected the LCD completely from the motherboard, however the laptop still does not automatically send signal to the external monitor immediately. I have tried pressing FN+F4 at various points during the boot, and it has no effect.

Is there anyway to disable the original monitor completely so the boot and BIOS boots immediately sending signal to the external monitor?

Does anyone know where the laptop Lid Switch is located on the R510? I have read one post where it is suggested to put a magnet over the lid switch to trick the computer into thinking the lid is closed upon boot thus automatically sending signal to the external monitor.

I cannot install a fresh copy of Windows without being able to see the boot screen on the laptop and this is what I need to do.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Most, if not all laptops are designed to operate that way. However, try pressing [F2] at boot up to get it to the CMOS/BIOS Setup screen. Now press [Fn][F4] to attempt to toggle the output from the internal LCD to the external monitor.

Hello, and Welcome

See if this works. At boot tap the F2 key (page 79 of the user manual). This will cause the Computer to enter the BIOS screen. If you got it right, Windows will not boot up and you will not see the Windows start screen on the external monitor. Now press the Fn key + F4 at the same time. This key combination is supposed to change the output from the LCD to the external monitor which should let you see the BIOS screen on the external monitor. See page 50 of your user manual.

My first guess, and it's really a guess, is that you have a fast internet connection at school, but a slow one at home, so your laptop is waiting for the data to come in at home.

i have a new samsung laptop and the touchpad does not work when i try to use the cursor on the side.this means i'm reduced to clicking up and down on the pages to move them. i'm running vista premium, any help woul be great!!!!

A:samsung r510 laptop touchpad

Welcome to TSG, mrtwmsioncati.

Are you sure that your touchpad has a scroll bar? Looking at pics, it doesn't appear to have one.

You might want to consult your user manual to be sure (I'd download it for you and take a look, but I'm at work), or to find alternative methods. For example, my netbook, if I use 2 fingers on the touchpad, it scrolls instead of moving the curser.

Hi, i consider myself fairly proficient and It/Computer skills but anything involving some sort of tech support confounds me....sooo, here i be.

Basically, every PC i have owned has, in some way, ended up freezing, aquiring glitches, restarting itself, you get the jist. Now i'm smart enough to consider viruses, hard drive usuage, too many programs running, adware and the usual but i'm quite unsure of a solution to my problem.

Now i DO download alot (with subtlety, i know whats blatantly going to carry a virus or not), access alllooott of websites (porn included but not implied), and i save alot of objects I.E. music; pictures; flash files; word/excel documents.

My problem is this, i have a Samsung R510 which i have nicknamed the Snowman because it constantly freezes. Most of the time its with the internet. I can use the internet/facilities okay at a decent speed, but if i leave the PC alone, turned on, programs running/not running, for like 10mins or so when i come back as soon as i try to use an application it fails and will freeze up, making me resort to restarting it. I cant seem to find a suitable resolution.

Also, drivers, USB, external devices, some CDs, if i trying loading or using any of these the computer will continue running until i use another action, even just opening the start menu, I.Explorer, a picture file and then it will immediately freeze. Especially on driver installation, i cant load any f my fone applications, ipod, memory sticks, anythin... Read more

Hi guys not sure if anyone can help me, but i'm having major problems getting my Cam to work in Win7. When i first installed Win7 i ran the Drivers CD and my built in Cam was not showing in the list. When i installed the Chipset drivers and re-ran the CD the Cam was then showing in the list, i installed them and it worked. However, i've just installed Win7 again, as an upgrade, and now the Cam in not showing or working, the device manager just says "Unknown Device" I cant install the Chipset drivers again as they are already installed. I tried to install the drivers from Samsung website but that keeps saying it's not plugged in. Would it be worth taking my Laptop apart and checking the connection? It seems to be USB powered.

Many thanks

My samsung R510 screen as gone black, with just a flashing dash in the left hand top corner, I have tried removing battery, have tried the samsung recovery disc, and it said A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del, but it still came up blank. Could it be the hard drive, or is there something else I can try before buying a new hard drive. Can anyone help me please.

A:samsung r510

To use the recovery disc you must set your laptop to boot from the CD drive so it boots from the recovery disc instead of from the hard drive. You need to go into BIOS Setup when you first turn on the laptop by pressing "F2" at the Samsung splash-screen.

In BIOS Setup, look for the boot devices list, put CD-ROM at the top of the list. Then "Save & Exit" (usually F10).

The hard drive is a separate issue. it may have failed but you won't know that until you start the Recovery process - you will get errors that Recovery cannot continue or words to that effect. To test for drive failure the correct way, use the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software for DOS which runs from a bootable CD. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Hello.

My problem is that I can't install windows 7 on my laptop even from the recovery disk which came with it. I have tried other 7 editions too, but neither works.

Problems begun when I tried to install ubuntu on one of my partitions. After installing it didn't boot and do anything at all. Then the problems came, and by accident I changed the attributes of the recovery partition that cam with the laptop (I made it visible somehow). After I have found that no more I can use that partition (recovery won't work). Then I tried to install the windows from the DVD-disk. I found that the install hangs at some point (after choosing partition to install the OS on). From my experience I knew that sometimes you can't install the windows OS from a disk if you have the recovery partition (Asus case?). Then I deleted the recovery partition.

Here problems became even worse. If before the install hanged somewhere after choosing the partition to install on, now on the install hangs either after writing "starting windows" with only the red visible from the whole WINDOWS FLAG, and that only a point.

Should I take my laptop to the recovery center or the problem can be solved with available in the internet methods?

Thanks in advance.

How can I re install the preloaded Samsung windows 7 without a disk?

On power-on keep tapping F8 and go to repair my computer. That will install from the recovery partition.

But in the future you should make frequent images to an external disk. Then you can recover in a few minutes.

Hello everyone,

Got a problem with a fresh install on my laptop like the title says. Normally I can always figure pc related problems myself but this is my second night trying to fix it and I"m about to give up. So my last resort is to create a topic here, hopefully someone can help me out and figures something I haven't tried yet (or make a conclusion my laptop is ****ed).

So here's the situation. Bought this samsung R710 laptop about 2 years ago with vista premium on it. With windows 7 release got a digital legit version through my student program on MSDNAA. Downloaded the image, burned, install went all smooth. So basically I've been cruising on windows 7 professional 32 bit since the release without ANY problem.

Thing is now, computer was getting slow and started to see some malware and spyware so like most people do then, time for fresh windows install! So yesterday I started the process of getting the fresh install. Backing up all my files on my external hdd en found my windows 7 dvd again. So my computer is nearly completely empty, something like 250gb free of the 300gb.

Got the disc in, rebooted my pc in the hope that the installation starts. And here comes the problem, it's getting the disc and i'm getting the screen with windows is loading the files, then the windows is starting logo. Then I see some low resolution big ass mouse appearing on the screen and I"m like, well this is going fine, this is the installation starting like I remember. Well after ... Read more

My sister has an HP Pavilion dv5000 that had to have a new hard drive. No problem so far until I go to install windows on the new drive. She lost her original disk so I am having to use another that has worked before on different computers as long as I used their correct serial numbers but this time it won't work. I have a really good install disk of Windows XP but it is for Dell so I can't use it. The one I downloaded, I burned onto a dvd as a bootable iso image so it would install windows but after it formats I get a message that says it is not a genuine disk instead of asking me for the serial numbers.

Can I get another install disk from windows or do I have to pay for it? What can I do under the circumstances? The original version was Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 but she and I will be happy with any version of windows XP and would put Vista in it if I had to. Somebody please give me some advice. Thanks in advance.

A:can't re-install windows on my HP laptop after new hard drive replacement

HP will replace the disks for about 17.00

post your model and serial number (HP uses serial number to determine which year your computer is and which software it can legally supply) and I can point you to the place to order. Or go to HP support and put in the model number and wend your way to the drivers and downloads section and write down the part number listed under "recovery disk set" (may be more than one available for your model) and then look on the right side of the page for a link to order your recovery disk set. You will need to enter the SN at some point to order.

Also if the old drive is still readable, you could (on those later than Nov. 2004) clone the recovery partition and the "c" partition off the old drive and then write it to the new drive and use f-11 or f-10 to run the recovery install from the hp splash screen of the new drive. After the install you can then expand the original partition to fit the new drive size.

I have a dv5000 on the bench in front of me and I own a compaq v5000 (which uses the identical recovery disk set.)
The compaq did not come with a recovery partition so I had to order the disks set.
Both use mediacenter 2005

The recovery disk set made from the original files is 2 duel layer dvd's, or 4 dvd-r dvd's, or 23 CD's.

The actual HP OEM recovery disk set will not ask for a cd-key and will be automatically activated.

If it does ask, be aware that hp has sent out the wrong disk set occasionally an... Read more

Don't understand what you're saying, The sch-1545 is a Samsung Galaxy S4 cell phone using Verizon as the carrier. It runs the Android OS and Android apps can NOT be installed on a laptop running MS Windows 8.

To find apps installed in Win8, you look through the list of Apps by name and then click the tile for the app that you just installed.

I had to replace the MoBo on my HTPC which had an Intel board and a P4 3.0ghz processor. A friend gave me a Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI board to use which has a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 (dual core) processor. So far, the installation has been a nightmare. It's been slow, files have been corrupt and I'm essentially on my 10th time trying to install Home Premium 32 bit.

Installation is very slow, it can take up to 3 hours just to complete. I didn't have this problem with my old Intel board. Once the OS is installed, I again have problems with installation, this time with programs and windows updates. All windows updates fail and installation of such programs such as iTunes can take 45 minutes. But the OS seems to run normally..

I did the cmd winsock thing and that made no difference. I then connected through the cable and it was working fine, now i've unplugged from the router and its loading reallllllly slow/un usable.

Whats happened? it was saying it couldnt connect to dns server 192.168.1.1, but then it started working... but now its not :/

A:Samsung Vista laptop wireless now playing up

This sounds like either a fault with the routers wireless transmission or your wireless card in the PC.

Start by resetting the router, there should be a reset button somewhere on it, usually you will need a thin wire to push into the whole and hold it until the router responds. This will reset it to default so any security settings will need to be reset.

If there is no change take a look in Device Manager for your wireless card under Network Adapters, right click on the device and select properties, check to see if it reports any problems. If no problems are reported try uninstalling the device and then reboot so that windows will reload the drivers.

Let us know how you get on.

Hello all,
I am trying to help a friend remotely who is having problems with her Samsung NP-QX410-S02US laptop. Everything works fine except certain games which refuse to run. The stats say it should be able to handle these without a problem so i suspect it is a corrupt driver (or buggy) one. It is running vista but when I check the downloads page ( http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/NP-QX410-S02US ) it only offers XP or Win 7 and the windows 7 versions don't run. Usually such drivers are vista/7 but apparently these are not.

Any ideas? I thought of having her try the XP drivers but of course don't want to cause her greater issues so I thought I would ask here and see if anyone else has ran into this.

Enter the BIOS and disable the Optimus graphics so that the nVidia graphics are always on. Then install either the latest drivers from Samsung's website or try the very latest driver from www.nvidia.com

Today I received a laptop to "format". It's an HP, so I guessed that it would have a recovery partition to revert the laptop to its factory nature. Sadly, I couldn't do much, I looked at the license label, it said "Windows Vista Home Premium OEMAct HP" so I thought the guy had a reinstall disc, which I was wrong again, it didn't had a partition or a disc.

Any recommendations? I was thinking of using a windows vista home premium dvd I have at home but I don't know if it will accept the license key the laptop provides. Will it be possible?

A:Can't re-install windows vista in laptop

Hi allenskd, Welcome to vista forums.

You need to hit F11 while booting....to get into the HP Recovery screen.
If you already tried that, use any vista DVD to reinstall Home Premium, Use the original product key to activate the copy. You can find the product key underneath the laptop.

A:Install Windows 8 on dead Vista laptop

It would be good to know that you have a shot at running Win8 before embarking on installing Win8. Some stumbling blocks are mentioned in this MS quote:

"Physical Address Extension (PAE), NX processor bit (NX), and Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) refer to features of the processor. PAE enables 32-bit processors to access more than 4 GB of physical memory on capable versions of Windows and is a prerequisite for NX. NX allows the processor to help guard the PC from attacks by malicious software. SSE2 (a standard on processors for a long time) is an instruction set that is increasingly used by third-party apps and drivers. For Windows 8, for your malware defense features to work reliably we require that your processor support NX. To enhance the reliability of third-party apps and drivers running in Windows 8, SSE2 is also required. If your PC doesn't support PAE, NX, and SSE2 you won?t be able to install Windows 8."

You would have to have a running machine to check these things out physically using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. If you can't use the assistant and do not know if your machine supports PAE, NX, and SSE2, then you could do some research on you machine or you could take a chance and buy the retail Windows 8 upgrade discs. In this regard, the price is going up very significantly after January 31. See this read. For a short while, presumably, Newegg will be selling the retail set for $69.99. Others price competitively. If you can't use the set, you sho... Read more

Hello John

It is not easy to understand the whole situation, especially this part with viruses.
In my opinion WXP installation should not be problematic.

What you need is WXP SP2 or SP3 disc and SATA driver. Without SATA driver HDD will not be ?visible? for WXP.

Hi guys, i bought a 'replacement' battery off eBay, it does state below it is "Genuine Samsung Cells" but i doubt it, what use to happen before i formatted my laptop was when i plugged the laptop in to the mains it use to restart instantly and when i put it to sleep it restarts, i complained to the seller, and he suggested a reinstall, which so happened fixed the issue.

4 months later now though same thing has happened again, i dont really want to format, and i'm not sure if the battery is truly at fault (or more likely i cant prove it), it was fine and NEVER did such a thing with the ori battery

Hi there all,

I really hope you guys can help me!

I bought a Samsung R700 for my son 3 years ago. He has had so many problems with this machine and has had to spend hundreds of pounds on repairs/replacements. Jacks, batteries, chargers, overheating problems and now the latest problem.

I will explain as well as I can.

On start up he could put in his password but then after clicking, the screen is black with vertical broken lines right across the screen and nothing else happens.

He can use it in safe mode for basic internet connection. He backed up his files onto an external drive and then used the Samsung recovery disc to try to restore Windows etc. It didn't work. Still exactly as before.

I found out online that there have been defects with the NVidia graphics card he has, the 8400. I rolled back the driver to an earlier one and then managed to start up in normal mode but then all the critical error messages started coming up.

I didn't realise this was a malware at the time and started following it's instructions for fixing the errors. It said 6 were fixed and 5 were not. I got suspicious when it said I could purchase the fix and googled it then of course arrived on your forum.

I cannot get access to internet explorer on the computer so will have to download any removal tools to my own computer first. I have enabled Windows firewall but cannot enable Defender and there is no antivirus now and I cannot find any programs or IE so cannot download an an... Read more

Initially tried using the original Palm m500 installation CD but while Palm Desktop installs, Hotsync doesn't, so can't transfer data from my existing handheld. Got message:Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The class installer registry is invalid. Was advised to go to Palm Tech support website. Did that, & tried to download software for Vista, but it won't install over my existing Palm Desktop, & when I followed instructions to go remove the original from the Control Panel, I got the following message:Error number:0x80040702 Description:Failed to load dllalmDevC Setup will now terminate.

I suspect that my 640 GB hard disk (from 2008) is nearing the end of its life and would like to plan for a replacement. There does not appear to be much if any chance to replace such a SCSI disk any more. What is the best type of disk to replace it, and does it need a new controller?I run Vista (original OS) and Windows 7 (new) in a dual boot configuration. It has currently three volumes, a Vista C: drive (c.300 GB), a Windows 7 C: drive (c.300 GB) and the HP "FACTORY_IMAGE" drive 15 GB

Hello,

I made a giant mistake. My older laptop had Windows 7 on it and I had this device that only worked on Windows Vista. So, I decided to downgrade to Windows Vista from Windows 7. Turns out, all my drivers weren't compatible with Vista and everything is extremely...laggy. My network card didn't work and everything seems to be REALLY wonky.

Now I'm in a bubble. How do I go BACK to Windows 7? I do not have a Windows 7 installation disc and I do not have a Vista disc (other then my installation disc). And it's my old laptop, so if reformatting everything and losing every piece of data is an option, I'm willing to do it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

When I mount the drive in a Kingston drive adapter , the Samsung Magician software does not recognize the drive although Disc check identifies fine? Tried several different USB connectors & a second computer . Is there a workaround to migrate my win 10 system to the SSD - without buying a new 2.0 USB cable Sata ?

Maybe a clean install would be better - Can I do this & somehow still identify WIn10 as good?

Help for an old bugger appreciated

A:Clean windows 10 install onto a new SSD (samsung 850 EVO 250 gb) or

Hi Davee3, welcome to tenforums I had a similar issue with a Samsung EVO 128G SSD. No matter what I tried the migration software/function would not work. I ended up taking the existing SSD (Crucial 64G) with W10 on it out of the computer, installed the new SSD, booted from install media (W10 iso on a USB or cd) chose repair, and then restored with a backup/image I had (from my internal backup HDD) to the new SSD.

This was a workaround for me to have all things remain, and not start over with a clean install. I've actually done this a couple times, once with Win7, and once with W10. Both times went without issues, except on Win7 I had to boot from install media and repair start to get it to boot from the new SSD.

I have just purchased the new samsung 950 Pro 256gb NVMe SSD M2.
I can't install windows 7 onto it.
My System is Asrock Z97Extreme6, 32gb Ram i7 CPU.
The Firmware on the m/b has been upgraded to the latest version.
I have a Copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 which has all the latest Updates Slipstreamed into it.
I've Tried 2 methods of install, one from usb flash drive and one from DVD.
That copy until now has worked Flawlessly with my previous hardware setup, that was with the 850 ssd.
That version still works on any other PC.
During the Install of windows it sees the 950 Pro and the Installation continues until the first reboot.
At this point it Freezes ( where the four colored windows swirl around ).
It appears that nothing I do can fix that problem, not even system repair.
However I have One Version of Windows that will work, that is Windows 7 Pro OEM x64 on DVD, Original Microsoft .
Can anyone help.

A:Samsung 950PRO Can't install Windows 7

So if you have a dvd that will work, what`s the problem ?

If you want a dvd with Service Pack 1 then download it from here.

Microsoft DigitalRiver Mirror

Your dvd of Ultimate is more then likely counterfeit, there is no reason to slipstream updates into the installer.

"a required cd/dvd drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now." then some line about how its ok to remove the install disk.

all connections are good, obviously since it started to do the first couple of steps. Now i'm stuck at this point and not sure how to resolve it.

hello,

for couple of days, breaking my head tring to figure out what im doing wrong, or what else i can do .

i used to have as my C:\ drive a kingstone 120gb SSD drive . due to lack of space, i bought 250GB SSD samsung evo-850 drive.
i execute fresh new windows 10 pro X64 installation on the Samsung but after installation finished with no error, and setup is rebooting the pc, the screen is stuck on the "loading operation system" and nothing is happening.

i thought that the cause for that is because i still have the kingstone drive plugged in, and there is conflict between those, but even when i unplugged the kingstone drive and execute windows installation, same thing is happen.

i tried to change order of booting from the pc setup and again nothing is chagne (samsung drive is shown in the pc setup and also when i load windows from the kingstone drive)
i also tried to version of windows setup iso which are used from Disk on Key "burned" with rufus latest version.

what else can i do ?

thanx.

A:Cannot install windows 7 on Samsung RV509 Notebook

HI,

So, you are planning to install Windows 7 but you are getting an error when it restarts...
Make sure if you install windows, that you completely format the drive, So that all the partitions are gone (or at least a clean partition to install windows on.)

Otherwise you could try activating the installation within (asuming) windows xp. and install it that way.

I've been dealing with this for hours. I've looked all across the internet and I have yet to fix my issue.

SPECS/ISSUES
MSI GT80 Titan Laptop
Windows 7

I just bought/installed two Samsung SSD 850 Evo M.2s
I already have a 1TB HHD with all my stuff and OS on it (windows 7)-Not Samsung

Followed these instructions perfectly in Video directly from MSI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1md2eUqKrKo

I have already Raid configured my two new SSD's into a Stripped Array and booted SATA etc
The system on boot does not install/try to install an OS. It acts like there should be an OS and fails the Windows screen load(freezes for a sec on the colors) then brings me to .5 sec blue screen that I cant even read its so fast, then it starts the "start windows normally screen/or restore previous version", neither of which work cuz it just fails over again etc.

Why can't/wont it let me install my OS. Yes I have the boot Disc in the cd drive also. It is the first OPTION on boot.
Any help leading to this will be appreciated. I'm beginning to think I'm ruining my computer restarting it so much trying to figure it out.

I've tinkered more, and decided to test out just a normal array of the SSD's to non-raid and when I boot it just ignores trying to install on the new SSDS and loads up the OS from my HDD. Even more frustrating. Apparantly when the two SSDS are Stripped and Together they are DYNAMIC and they can't have a OS installed onto them?! Now googling more issues ~~~Still clueless... Read more

I just got a Samsung Series 7 Slate off of Craigslist. I have already booted from a USB flash drive with Windows 8 64 bit. But I realize I don't want to just go ahead and install it without some advice from some others who have already been.

First of all, do I do a full install of Windows 8, or do a dual boot with Windows 7? I've already managed to dual-boot my desktop PC with a Windows 8 64 bit on a VHD partition. I used Easy BSD to set up the boot menu.

I found a page on the Samsung site, that describes using a USB-based keyboard when doing the installation.

So as much as I'd like to fire up the gadget on Windows 8, I'd rather hear from someone who's already been there.

A:Just got Samsung Series 7 Slate, how do I install Windows 8?

I would burn a set of the factory restore disks for Windows 7 before I do anything. There is a good chance the hidden recovery partition could get messed up and end up not being usable.

HiI'm looking for advice on guidance. I've recently purchased a SSD to breath fresh life into my 5 yr old dv7 laptop. I am leaning towards a fresh installation rather than clone but my recovery partition though seemingly intact is disabled. I don't recall ever making recovery disks even though it tells me they were made in 2011. I did a fresh install using the recovery partition a couple of years ago and it worked fine on that occasion. The partition has been left untouched. It is 15.7 GB in capacity with 13.8 used and 1.92 remaining. It does not show any errors but I can't make it active. Is it possible to do so? Is it necessary or are there alternatives? If so, which is the better option? I'm also looking at whether to get windows 10 whilst it's free but have heard some horror stories. What are your thoughts? What are the pros and cons? Are there any incompatibility issues that anyone has experienced? I would also appreciate guidance on the best way to go about the SSD installation and fresh install. I was hoping I could have just slotted the drive into bay two, started the recovery process and been given the option to reinstall to bay two but suspect it's not that straightforward.  I have external hard drives available and 64GB and 128GB SD cards but currently no large USB dongles (might have a 16 or 32 GB somewhere).  The dv7 has two hard drive bays. Thanks for your help.

A:Samsung 850 Evo SSD - fresh install or clone, Windows 7 or ...

Hi Ndb76, welcome to the forums! In my experience, the easiest way (and best as far as the SSD is concerned) is to run the recovery media/usb with just the blank ssd in the laptop and have a fresh install that way. Some SSD "kits" come with cloning software and an external enclosure, but they usually cost more than just the drives themselves. If you cannot find or make recovery media, you can always order a recovery DVD from HP. You have a couple options for 'clean installs':You could download a Windows 7 DVD image (.iso) from Microsoft (whichever version you are licensed for, I'd imagine Home Premium on a DV7 unit) and then install using the CD key from the bottom of the laptop. You could download a Windows 10 DVD image (.iso) from Microsoft (similar version to Win7, probably Home version) and use your Windows 7 CD key in the Windows 10 installer (this is doable until the end of the free upgrade period, July 31, 2016). Once your hardware and/or CD key are "upgraded", you may reinstall Windows 10 on that device at any point in the future... It's why I've upgraded all of my devices (after making a full system image of them!!!) even if only to roll them back after Windows 10 is activated. (Search term: Windows 10 Upgrade by Digital Rights)

Hi,

I do this day in and day out with Volume Licensing but never with OEM installs...

A user that works at our company brought their personal laptop in, the hard drive failed hard drive tests so we have put one of our spare hard drives in and now we need to re-install Windows 8 x64.

Where do i get the installation media from if the users doesn't have a disc?
Is it possible or do we need to order a disc?

I feel stupid for needing to ask lol

A:Re-Install Windows 8 OEM After Replacement Hard Drive

Yea, OEM sucks nowadays because the key is embedded in the BIOS chip. It will automatically activate once you get it re-installed. Another reason why with OEM it is very important to create a recovery flash drive or image the system right after purchasing the computer. Everything to recover was on that bad drive.
Anyway, the user will now have to try to get a recovery disc from the manufacturer. What make of laptop is it?

P.S. No stupid questions here.

EDIT: If you have a retail ISO it should read the embedded key and activate as OEM I believe. Another post here dealing with the same issue: How to install Windows 8.1 with 8.1 OEM key?

I got the replacement hard drive from Dell that I was told would come with Windows 8 and drivers preinstalled. Well I installed the hard drive and it tells me that NO OS can be found. I didn't have a chance to make backup discs of my own but Dell sent a Windows 8 Recovery Media CD with the laptop and now with the replacement hard drive.

When trying to install Windows 8 onto the new hard drive I get to the part where it tells me to choose a partition to install Windows 8 on and none of them will let me. There are 5 to choose from and I don't know what to do to get past this. The biggest partition which is 5 has about 934GB of space left out of 1TB but as I mentioned I can't choose it or any of the other ones for installation.

I've never had trouble like this reinstalling other versions of Windows.

I've figured out some stuff when it comes to Win 8 but not enough to get myself out of this. Please be gentle and yes I know it was stupid not to make backup discs when I could...

I am running an older homebuilt gaming rig with Windows 7. I started getting failure to boot with the unit unable to load bios. The unit would power on and off repeatedly, but never boot and I could not access BIOS. I searched forums and found that it was likely a bad motherboard. I installed a Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 AMD 3+AMD 970 Chipset 4xDDR ATX motherboard with a AMD FX-6300 3.5 ghz Six-Core Socket AM3+ Vishera processor. I also purchased a copy of Windows 8.1 - 64 bit (full version) and have the OS DVD. I retained my old Radeon HD 5770 video cards in cross fire configuration and three 12GB Crucial DDR3 memory sticks. I am also reusing my DVD ROM, 80G SATA SSD and 1 TB Optical HD. I attempted to boot to the Windows 8.1 DVD, but after a long stint of viewing the Microsoft progress bar and the the blue Windows screen I get a Startup Repair screen stating, "Your Computer was unable to start". It looks for problems and assure me it will fix them, but eventually this screen locks up and I have to power off the computer. I can open ASUS UEFI BIOS and can see the DVD-ROM and my Solid State Hard Drive that I intend to install Windows 8.1 on. I temporarily removed my Optical Hard Drive just to be sure I don't reformat it and loose it's data. Please help!

The first one as you know - is related to Avast.
I'd try an un-install and then a re-install.
What do you have connected to the USB ports on the Pc?

Hi!

I recently acquired a new Samsung Q320 laptop and promptly fitted a new HD with a clean XP install (still don't like Vista very much).
With 4GB RAM installed, I am a bit surprised by the small amount specified under "Available Physical Memory":

Is this normal?

I also have a Dell M1330 with 4GB installed, and it shows a fair bit more available RAM:

Many thanks in advance!

I have updated my Samsung 550P7C from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The update process appears to have loaded drivers for all the devices successfully, apart from the touchpad.

In the case of the touchpad, a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad driver has been loaded; it works satisfactorily, except that there is no option to reverse the direction of two-finger scrolling. ((When the laptop was running Windows 7, the touchpad driver was for a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad, and two-finger scrolling worked in the "reverse" direction.)

I have tried updating the driver using the Samsung Update facility, but this did not help.

I have checked available drivers on the Samsung web site, but it only lists Windows 7 drivers. (I'm sure that the last time I checked, it also listed Windows 10 drivers!)

My questions are:
I have found a site (http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/samsung/laptops-desktops/550p5c-550p7c/1166) that claims to provide Windows 10 drivers for the 550P7C. Is it safe / sensible to download drivers from sites such as this, or would I simply be downloading a virus?! Or can someone suggest where I could obtain a Windows 10 driver? Is there any way to check the manufacturer and model of the touchpad, without disassembling the laptop?Would loading a driver for a different Samsung laptop be an alternative? If so, can anyone suggest which model ranges would be most likely to use the same touchpad as the 550P7C?

I have seen a tutorial entitled "How to replace Windows Notepad with a better Notepad", but it seems to be only for Windows XP or 2000. Is there anything about replacing the notepad in Vista? I don't like the notepad I have for various reasons: no background choices, no text size or color choices, etc. I use Notepad for writing letters, printing my own recipes, and other things that I would like to be able to do with a little more creativity.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

I am trying to install Windows 7 on a Samsung NP300E5E laptop. The laptop had Windows 8 pre-installed.

I followed your tutorial on how to do a clean installation of Windows 7, followed the UEFI route using a usb that I created by using the setup dvd as described in the tutorial and changed all settings in the setup.

After the laptop did a reboot during last part of the setup, it doesnt want to go any further, just gives an installation error stating that the setup will continue after rebooting, and then reboots and does the same again. No error number to go by.

What am I doing wrong?

Forgive me if this is an overload of information, but I really don't want to lose my laptop and would like to fix it as timely as possible. Also running my computer on Safe with Networking seems to make it run better. Haven't had blue screen yet in this mode.

I have Avira antivirus, the free edition, and I used to have Norton free edition but I have removed it. I tried running Adware cleaner and it got no results. Also tried downloading a few different scanners and they were not able to download because of some error, even trying on Admin. When I ran Avira it got many possible issues but no definite virus. I need to put Windows 7 on a new internal hard drive that's in my Samsung laptop. I found someone who has a Windows 7 disk for sale, unopened, along with the drivers disk, but it says Dell on it. Would it work on my Samsung laptop, even though it's not a Samsung hard drive, or would it only be made to work on a Dell computer?

Hi, i recently restored my windows 7 laptop and everything went fine. I backed it up and everything. And before i restored it, i used to be able to connect to the wifi automatically. Now, instead of it showing the bars that you see on the bottom of your screen that shows that it can be connected to a network, now it shows an icon of a computer with a red X on it. I have tried several things but nothing seems to work. For example, i have tried "netsh wlan show drivers" on Command Prompt and it just says "There is no wireless interface on the system." I have also tried going on Services and set WLAN Autoconfig to Automatic and i changed the status to 'Started'. And I did the same with Network Connections, Network List Service, Network Location Awareness, and Network Store Interface Service. I have also gone to Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings. There it just has the picture of a 2 monitors and it says Bluetooth Network Connection, but it says "Not Connected". Someone please help me. Thanks for reading.

I currently have an hp paviliondv4 (4gb RAM, 2.2GHZ with windows 7 and avast anti virus). I just bought and returned a Samsung NP550 (6GB RAM, 2.5GHZ with windows 8 and Kepersky security). As soon as I began surfing the net I noticed my new 600 dollar purchase was actually slower than my hp. I ran numerous speed tests and found out my less powerful hp was dogging my brand new more powerful computer. Best buy refunded the purchase completely but not with out a fight. At first they said it was not the computers fault and the Samsung was indeed faster as they pointed out the .3 GHZ advantage it had over the 2.2GHZ hp. They said internet speed is the only factor when speed testing...NONSENSE. I tested both computers on the same internet and the hp was faster in every category every time. The tech and I speed tested the two laptops once side by side and the hp won. Still he said It's not the computer. I told them to have a side by side race with my hp 50 times on the same internet opening a page and playing a video and that's when they refunded me completely including setup. I went to the back of the store and the display model was out performing my hp. Now I'm thoroughly confused. Maybe the display has a different security program? Is this a windows 8 issue? could Kapersky be causing lag? Did I get a defected model?
hp has AMD processor and the Samsung has core i5

I am attempting to repair my friend's Samsung laptop running windows 8.1. I don't have the model name in front of me but I can post it when I get home if important. After a software update (as was told to me) and then subsequent reboot, the little cyclone spins around for a few seconds and then just a blank, white screen, no BSOD or something similar . I downloaded the manual which says in case of windows not starting to hit F4 upon start up. Hitting F4 does not cause any different change of events, just the spinning cyclone and then white screen. I can hit F2 to get into the BIOS but I don't see any settings in there such as "access recovery mode" or something similar that can help me. Unfortunately there is no cd/dvd media with the laptop.

Any suggestions? Are there any bootable troubleshooting programs I can download and burn to a CD that might help me? I was tempted to pay $120 for windows 10 and just see if it would boot off that and then load windows 10 but I'm afraid if it's not a software issue then I would be out $120.

Hi

I have a customer who has a Samsung CLX-2160 Printer. (nb it is NOT the 2160N version)

The nightmare I am having is to share the printer between about 5 laptops on a home wireless networks.

In the customer's office I have a Vista Laptop which is wired via USB directly to the unit.

No problems printing.

All laptops are connected via EchoLife HG520s Router via Wireless.

I installed the printer driver on the XP, Vista and Windows 7 laptops.

Surprise surprise the XP laptops worked first time but the Vista & Windows 7 laptops did not.

Rather than bore you by forcing you to read my sporadic efforts which have had intermittent success (ALL units have printed at some point via Wireless Network) I would be grateful if someone could point me towards the correct method for sharing this unit across a Home Network.

(Samsung spent over an hour trying to sort and are completely stumped too despite escalation)

What is the best way to do it? The fact that it works for a while then stops suggests a dynamic environment as regards the network and my suspicions lie with DHCP.

I can find no mention of the printer within the router (maybe not surprising as connecting via Laptop to Printer USB connection)

Is the solution to designate a static IP for the laptop connected to the printer via whom they vare all trying to print?

I'm pulling out what little hair I have

This was exacerbated by the fact that the only thing which seemed to enable Printer Sharing was to DISABLE... Read more

Hi. My father has a Samsung S6 and wishes to copy photos from it to a Windows 10 laptop.

When I visited him recently we were able to copy photos from his S6 to his Windows 10 desktop PC without any issues (with phone connected to PC USB port). But we couldn't manage to copy them to his new laptop, a HP Pavilion x360 (Windows 10).

We searched Google and tried a few suggestions (updating drivers for S6 via Device Manager, and uninstalling S6 > restarting HP x360 > reinstalling S6) but with no success (when S6 was connected to HP x360 there was always yellow triangle with exclamation mark next to HP icon in 'Devices and drives' in 'This PC')

Any advice would be very appreciated.

i've been reading forums and chipping away for 2 weeks so far. if anyone has any other ideas, they'd be much appreciated.

here are the main problems i have noticed
1. hdmi connection not working.
2. itunes tells me i don't have hd drivers installed.
3. computer generally running slowly.
4. shift keys and caps lock key often don't work (this was also an issue before reinstall)
5. 3 samsung drivers failed to install on multiple occasions.

here's what i've done so far;
1. reinstalled windows 7 from cd
2. installed all windows updates
3. installed all drivers for my model from samsung website
4. installed all windows automatic and optional updates
5. ran nvidia scan to check for updates (none needed)

i've read on seven forums that samsung computers can be very difficult to reinstall, so any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks

Samsung Windows Laptop Owners Urged To Download Fix To MitM Vulnerability

Samsung laptop owners are being urged to update their Windows PCs after the discovery of a vulnerability that can allow remote attackers to download files onto a targeted system and gain complete control over the laptop.
The flaw is tied to a feature called “Samsung SW Update Tool 2.2.5.16” designed keep Samsung laptop users’ drivers and software up to date. Security researchers at Core Security discovered the vulnerability in November 2015 and disclosed the flaw March 4 after Samsung issued the patch to fix the problem.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question, but i'll post it anyway since it's a big problem for me.

I wanted to help a friend of mine by downgrading his Windows 8 laptop.
I installed Windows 7 x64 by DVD without any problems.
I've formatted al drives.

After the installation the laptop tried to boot, but it only shows a black screen after the BIOS splash screen.

Bios settings:
Fast BIOS : enabled
AHCI Mode Control : Auto
Secure Boot : Disabled
OS Mode Selection : UEFI and Legacy OS

The laptop is a Samsung NP355E7C-S04NL
The BIOS version is: P02ABF

The HDD is set up as the primary boot device.
The strange thing is that if I use the Boot Override option and select this HDD, Windows boot normally!
Of course this only works once, so I always need to go into the BIOS to use the boot override option.

Does anybody have any experience with this problem and maybe a way to fix it?

YES & NO, down to your UEFI/BIOS firmware setting.

As this a OEM manufacturer's PC with Pre-installed Windows 8.

1) Downgrade to Windows 7.
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7
Warning you must have the UEFI/BIOS firmware setting in Step Three set.

Make sure you read the NOTE at Step three.

2) If Using a USB Pen drive on a PC with a UEFI BIOS.
USB Pen drive need to be formatted to FAT32 as in
UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
Take note of Step 11 for Windows 7.
Also you will need to use a USB 2.0 port, as there are no USB 3.0 drivers in Windows 7.

I am not entirely sure what happened or how to fix this, so here is what I was doing and what i've done to try and fix it.

I was on my samsung laptop last night, and I found a folder called "Searches>Indexed locations". I saw it was taking up some space so i went through some of the files seeing that some were Type:Shortcuts. So I deleted them to free up a bit of space thinking "it's only a shortcut, can't harm it". Now some icons are missing from my windows 8 start screen and some programs have become inoperable because of missing files. I tried System restore to bring some of it back, it was going ok, then when it tried to restart, showed the samsung logo, then just blackscreened for 4+ hours. It was on , but blank. Haven't been using the laptop long so I don't really know the specs on it.

My parents got it for me, they said it came with no DvD/CD for me to use to format the laptop and I cant get it on to boot it up right for me to format it to begin with.

I atleast do know the graphics card was an AMD Radeon HD 7460
Can't seem to access Bios either.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention which might have something to do with it, is I was using a custom windows 8 theme, because microsoft, being as stingy as they are, from what i assume does not enable you to have your own theme, so I had something called the "ribbon disabler and UXTheme Cracker" to use a custom windows 8 theme.

Hey!

I have a problem. First I wanted to use my ML-1610 printer on my laptop (Vista) through wireless network. The printer was connected to desktop (XP) computer with usb cable and was shared to other computers on my home network. Well...first I was unable to install the printer on my laptop via network so I had to plug the printer in with usb (and installed the printer) and then I was able to print through home network.

Last week my desktop computer tilted and is now out of order. I need to print some documents so I plugged the printer to my laptop. Here is where the problems start.

First the Vista Laptop started to install the printer (it was allready installed or so I thought). Vista said that the install was successfull. I removed the printer which use to be on my desktop (over network) so in the end I had just one local printer and nothing else on my printers list. This printer is configured to USB001 port.

When I try to print a document (notepad, word etc.) the printing queue says "error - printing" and the port is usb001. Like my laptop and my printer just can't communicate. Printer says nothing.

I have tried to use Samsung's own drivers from their website...no use. I've also cleared the registry from any of the samsung printer files and deleted all driver files on my laptop and tried to install drivers all over....no use.

This is the whole story in short. Could you help me? Any reply would be very much appreciated!

A:Samsung ML-1610 and Windows Vista - Error printing USB001

I had my new desktop computer ready and made the original configuration:

Printer - Desktop Comp - Router - Laptop

Now it works like a charm. Printer prints from desktop and laptop (when desktop is running)! Really strange....

So the real problem still stays unsolved....

Hello there,

I pulled out a old laptop(HP Pavillon ze2000) out of the dust, which I plan on using on occasion for basic web browsing and for emergency purposes. The old laptop runs on Windows XP Home and won't be able to upgrade to anything higher due to its low specs and lack of Widnows Vista/7/8 drivers. I know the support for Windows XP has ended and this will cause potential security risks, but this won't be used very often and not for anything serious, and will run on a non-administrator account.

When I turned the laptop on, it was rather slow(Windows XP should runs fine on this), so I checked the SMART status for the hard drive and there was a lot of reallocated sectors. So I ordered a new hard drive, but since this is a old laptop, it uses IDE hard drive, so I ordered via eBay as they are otherwise very hard to find brand enw where I live in Canada, for a decent price at least. The original hard drive in the laptop was a 80GB Fujjitsu HDD, I bought a 120GB Hitachi Travelstar (eBay Auction: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/261472786635?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649)

I tried to make a disk image in order to clone the hard drive, but it failed after several attempts and trying with 3 different software (Clonezilla, Marcrum Reflect and DriveImage XML), probably due to the bad sectors. No big deal, I'll just do a clean install.

So I installed the new hard drive in the laptop, taking attention to the jumped (the old HDD was set on C... Read more

A:Samsung NP350V5C-A06UK Laptop - Windows 7 boot problem

Hello and welcome Mcclaine Mate for all the problems it is going to cause personally I would have one of to things
1: stuck with 8 and use on of the programs that starts it up like 7
2: I would find some way of wiping that drive buy an OEM 7 and install it.

Of course you do realise that this will void any warranty eh?

Usually if you try to install over another OS it means problems the other thing is is to buy a new drive not expensive depending on what you want of course. I do see it comes with a 1TB drive bit if you go 500GB then you can always clone to the larger one not vice versa. Myself I do not like larger than 500GB as when the big ones go south so does a lot of data. The 1TB you could wipe anyway put it in an enclosure and use it as an external.

I reinstalled windows 7 64 bit on my Samsung R580 and now a lot of things aren't working. It used to have windows 7 home premium 32 bit on it from the factory. The wifi isn't connecting, the ethernet port doesn't work/ isn't connecting to internet, the hdmi output doesn't work. I used to be able to change the brightness/volume using the FN key and the arrow keys and now that doesn't work. The taskbar used to be see through and now its a solid color and I can't get it to be see through again. I think that's because something with the chipset is wrong or the driver. There used to be a power setting called Samsung optimized and now that's not there either. I don't have any of the backup file/ disks either. I appreciate if anyone could help me out...I really messed this up.

A:Reinstalled windows 7 on samsung laptop. Lots of things not working.

Everything you need to know is here to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

Unfortunately Samsung is one of the hardest to get everything working correctly after the reinstall, however if it can be done then we will help you finish it.

First go to the Samsung Support Downloads webpage for your exact model to download to a flash stick or CD the network LAN driver, install it to get online.

Once online immediately install all of your Important and Optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware . These will include more drivers and important performance updates.

Once all Updates are done, look in your Device Manager for which drivers are missing and import them from the same Samsung SUpport Downloads webpage for your model. s

Now watch closely to see what isn't working correctly and look for a software package on the same Downloads page for FN Function key software which often includes both the functions and the lighting, any hotfixes which solve an issue you may be experiencing.

Those problems which you have problems with should be posted back here so we can help you resolve them. Often you can ask google and will get an even faster answer since almost any problem which has already been solved can normally be found by google if you deftly ask the question.

I have two laptops, both Samsung, one mine and one my sisters.
My one is Windows 8 and her one is a slightly older model so Windows 7
Now both are are very similar in spec, being 4GB and Intel Pentium 2.3GHz models.
She recently asked me if i could sort out her laptop with Windows 8, so I said yep should be no problem.
I went and bought a Windows 8 Pro 64bit and was at first going to just do a plain install. But then had a bright idea and thought why not do an image of mine and recover it to hers, and then when started up just enter the key of the new one. that way she gets a full original Samsung install along with all the apps and everything.
At first i tried the samsung built in Recovery software but had no luck as it was just a complete nightmare. Not booting the USB I put it on for the first few times, then eventually after changing the BIOS setting to UEFI and formatting her Disk to GPT it started but then said no image found. In end I tried the old way by using the Windows built in File Recovery Image tool which made me a repair disc and 3 discs for the image itself.
This booted first go and went all way through the recovery, and then did the usual "restarting in X seconds ..."
But after it rebooted to my horror the Samsung Logo screen appears and then after that it just stays blank.
It does every few seconds momentarily flicker on the screen but then just goes bank again. I cant even get into the BIOS anymore or boot from anything.

I've got an old Compaq Armada E500 laptop which im meant to be upgrading for a friend. Im usually quite good with computers so I went ahead and used my Hirens boot cd to wipe the hard drive clean with DBAN, upon completing this, i used the hirens cd again to format the harddrive to fat32. Now when i put my xp install cd in the drive and boot up I just get a blank black screen with a flashing white underscore in the top left corner, I can't do anything.

How on earth am I meant to load xp on here when it isn't loading the cd?

I've accessed the bios using f10 and changed the boot order to CD, it will load the hirens disc, but when I insert the XP disc it will say something about a pxe - media error check cable and will proceed through to this blank screen....

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

A:Old laptop running windows 98 wiped for xp replacement, black screen now.

Hi,
That sounds as if the XP disk is not bootable.
You have verified by booting off of a different CD that the drive is working.

The PXE error is what you see when the network card is in the boot device list and none of the items in the list above it are bootable.
BTW Hirens is not allowed to be recommended here due to the inclusion of Microsoft files.

Good Luck
Roger

I saw a warning about trying to replace my Sony Laptop battery...that it wouldn't work with Windows 7, but the battery sales person convinced me it would. Now I've spent all day trying to figure out a solution, and have found none.

The battery came with a driver disk which won't load cause it was for a 32 bit, mine is 64 bit.

I tried uninstalling the "Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and reinstalling, but it gave me an error message saying it couldn't install.

I went to Microsoft and downloaded all the updates.

I tried this...but could not find "ISBmgr.exe" under the start up tab.

From either the Start menu or command prompt run MSCONFIG.exe
On Vista machines, Windows will prompt you for permission to continue
In the System Configuration window, click the "Startup" tab and find the item containing "ISBMgr.exe"
Uncheck the box for the "ISBMgr.exe"
Click "Ok" to save and accept the changes and restart the laptop
You may be prompted on restart that Windows is running in selective mode. Just uncheck the notification option on bottom right.
I followed a few other iterations of those above steps with battery in, battery out, and other pokie turn yourself around things and am now stuck.
The new battery does not charge even when everything is shut down and plugged in. Yet, my old battery charges fine. It just won't hold a charge for longer than 20 minutes. T... Read more

Is this new battery a SONY battery?
If NOT, I would take it back to where you got it, get your money and get a REALLY Sony battery.

All I can find at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGN-FZ180E&region_id=1 is Vista, no Windows 7 support.

Did you install a retail version of Windows 7 on a Vista machine?

for the ethernet we could need to know who the vendor is is it Intel as well?

Or try this Intel? Driver Update Utility
To see if it will detect your Network adapter (ethernet) to see in fact it is intel then it will guide you to the drivers if they still provide them for XP.

Hi

I have bought a new samsung laptop. I have installed a 30 day trial version of windows 7. But the loading is taking long time and i am seeing black screen for long time.

It is core i5 laptop
Which version of windows 7 / 8 (beta) supported?

I bought this laptop with dos version. I guess it is a mistake. The present windows 7 is not working good on my laptop which i got it from a torrent site.

I have another 27 days to go before activating it.

A:Windows 7 / Windows 8 for my new samsung laptop

The laptop should have come with Windows 7, and yes, it's completely compatible. If you don't have a license sticker with a Windows 7 key, you should look into buying one ASAP. Do NOT use a torrented version, as it could contain malware.

A:Install XP Pro on a Vista Laptop

!! Use at your own risk and backup important data !!

Boot to BIOS. Set SATA Native Support disabled. Save and exit.

Insert XP cd. In installation create new partition if possible and install Win Xp on the new partition. (If you are unable to do this, use Vista partition manager to generate new partition).

After install you should be in Windows XP.

Then the hard part. In folder settings, make sure you can see hidden files.
Open file explorer and go to the drive where Vista is installed. Copy the folder Boot, and the files bootmgr, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM and ntldr and paste them to the root of your XP drive.

After that, download VistaBootPro and install it (.net framework 2.0 required).

Open the "bootloader""tab. Select "Reinstall the Vista bootloader" and press apply. Then go to the "Manage OS Entries" tab and select "Add new operating system entry" and make sure you select "Windows Legacy". Give the new entry a name (you propably want to name it as Windows XP) and select the drive letter you have XP on and then select "Apply". You can also choose which entry you would like as the default the system will boot to.

Thats it.

Hi there

I've been at this for hours (literally) and it seems as though I have tried everything. I'm trying to install XP Home Ed (legit copy) on a "Toshiba Satellite M200" for a friend of mine. I've tried to do the "shrink volume" thing within Vista - but it STILL does not recognize a hard-drive in the XP boot screen. I'm unable to get to a screen (BIOS) where I can change it from a SATA to something else (so it recognizes it).

What can be done?

Thanks
