Update Dell Drivers???

Q: Update Dell Drivers???

Just looking around the Dell site and noticed a number of hardware driver updates are in the "Recommended" category. Things like the DVD drive, Broadcom card (Ethernet adapter), Dell wireless (WLAN) card, and a couple of others.

My computer is working just fine and being a fan of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", I'm inclined to leave it alone. Would just like some opinions....

My Dell XPS L502x is 14 months old (i7, 8GB, 689GB HDD, HM77, Nvidia 540M GT). I have installed all latest drivers for my laptop from Dell website. But those are still more than 6 months old. When I use Intel Driver update utility, it shows new version of drivers available. Even my nvidia control panel shows new driver available.
Is it Okay to update drivers from intel and nvidia website and replace drivers from Dell. I heard that Dell mods the drivers for thier laptops before supplying to thier users.

A:Should I update my stock Dell Drivers to Intel Drivers.

S"hould you", that is up to you, but the Intel drivers are the best for your computer. If you decide to change your drivers, start with a system restore point.
If you are not having specific problems, you probably will not notice any improvement however.

Hi all,
I have a Dell XPS13 9350 - only a month old. Everything is wonderful so far but Dell Update software sometimes does not pick up on new drivers. The other days, BIOS 1.4.4 and two new thunderbolt drivers and firmware were uploaded to the Dell website. I ran Dell Update but it did not download those and said my computer was up to date. Yes, I can go to the website and download them manually but the Dell Update software is very convenient. Any thoughts?
Thanks all,
AJ

A:How to install networking drivers for dell laptop..not update..I have none on the lap

You will have to use a USB drive or burn a cd with the network drivers for your specific laptop. You will have to use another computer that has access to the internet to do this. If you don't, you will need a Dell resource cd with the drivers on it.

A:Which is the best drivers update program for windows 7(Dell Inspiron)?

Hello Inspiron and welcome to Seven Forums

As you can see in my System Specs I have a DELL Inspiron Laptop and I go to DELL System Detect to find out what is good for my PC. There you can do tests as well.
But you normally don't need to update drivers all the time. Why did you do it in the first place? Did you have problems and you thought you could solve them by changing your drivers ?

Hello to all,   I recently did a clean reinstall of Windows XP (Home) on my Dell Dimension 2350. All went fine. Now I need to install the correct drivers. I have the Dell Resource disc and this is where the problem starts.    As noted elsewhere, after the reinstall the screen display of the Resource disc is as it would be in "Safe Mode". I was aware of this. As such, the Resource disc Search Criteria screen was a bit larger than the monitor screen. I was able to size it to fit the screen but this is really not the problem it is the following: The Search Criteria options I have from the drop down menus (on screen) are as follows:System Model:   All, Dimension C521, DXC061, Dimension DXP0G1, Dimension E521, DM061, XPS710    (Which, if any, do I pick?)Operating System: (I think I got this one)   All, Windows XPTopic:   (Maybe this one too)   All, Applications, Dell Diagnostics, Diagnostics, Drivers, Utilities   For the life of me I cannot figure out the exact drivers I am to install*. Windows XP only appears in the Operating System menu. I pretty much know the install order but as I said, I'm a bit confused about selecting the correct drivers from the disc. This computer is not connected to the internet at the moment so I can't download and use any sort of driver detection program. Other searches have confused me further and have provided no specific answer to this problem.&nbs... Read more

A:Installing drivers after Windows XP reinstall on Dell Dimension 2350 using Dell Resource disc

You need, in installation order:

Chipset driver
Video driver (depends on which video card)
Audio driver
Network driver (depends on which you have)
Modem driver, if you use a dialup modem

Go to the Support page and put in your Service Tag. It should give you the drivers you need. You can download them on any PC and copy onto a USB stick for installation on the 2350.
You only need the applications, if you actually use them (eg, Roxio, Jasc Paintshop, etc).
Then install your antiviral software and get online to the Microsoft Update site for all the patches and updates.
Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and they stopped releasing security fixes for XP and IE9, more than 1 year ago. So they're both full of security holes and put your personal data at risk.

I am constantly having this problem with my laptop. As I plug in and unplug my headphones throughout the day, I've noticed that after a couple times the bass gets really quiet and almost completely drops out. Since I have some pretty decent audiophile headphones with really great bass, it is super annoying and noticeable.
One workaround I have discovered is to go to the audio settings (either in Windows or the Dell Audio app), and switch the Default Format (the thing with 24-bit, 48000Hz in it)  to something else, play some audio, then switch it back.
A little word on my setup: I have the latest drivers from the Dell download page installed. I am running Windows 10 64-bit with all the updates. I have Waves Maxx audio "enhancements" disabled. My Default Format is usually set to 24-bit 48000Hz, but the problem eventually happens no matter what I set it to. The "headphone size" option is set to "Medium", but as far as I can tell this option does nothing if I do not have Waves Maxx enabled. Switching it also does not fix the problem.
If I play audio using WASAPI (this basically means that the music player takes over the sound card completely, and bypasses whatever audio processing Windows and the driver has) the problem does not happen.
How do I fix this problem? It's incredibly annoying, and most likely has something to do with the audio driver, since this does not happen in Linux, and it did not happen when I was runn... Read more

Hleping a friend who had so many viruses on his Dell B130 laptop that all we could do was to wipe it clean and reinstall windows. He does not have a driver disk so I went to Dell's support page and found all that I need. The problem is that I don't have internet access on the laptop that was reformatted. I tried to download to my computer but it wants to install the drivers.

How can I save the Dell drivers to a folder or even to a disk so that I can install and finish this installation?

I thought this would be easy as all the drivers are on Dell's site.

I tried to get to Chat with Dell and could not due to the computers service being over.

Thank you for any and all suggestions.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

I did find this one "Inspiron 15R SE 7520" If that is your model then the Dell website has Windows 7 64bit drivers and Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.

I would use the Windows 7 Drivers for windows 7, Just download them ahead of time and burn them to a CD or store on a flash drive so you will have them handy to use.

I would also have my Antivirus ready to install before I went on the Internet.

3rd point. Windows will prevent you from formatting the drive it is installed on. So you have to do it during the install process.

Hi all.
I'm trying to reinstall Intel MB drivers on my HTPC computer, after a power breakdown at home:
The computer shutdown abruptly of course, and when I reopened it, I noticed that I can't use my USB keyboard or any other USb devices.

By checking Device Manager I saw that all USB devices had the yellow exclamation mark on them. Snapshot:

Tried to reinstall my mb's chipset drivers but it wouldn't install. I get an error when it wants to install USB drivers. Weird stuff:

Hi Guys,

I have a REAL newbie question. I?ve tried reading a bunch of tutorials, but they?re a little over my head. I think my question is pretty basic, but after a couple hours research, hopefully someone here would be kind enough to help.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and my system keeps freezing up, no input from keyboard or mouse, no ctl-alt-del, nothing. It freezes intermittently, but never goes more than 3 hours without freezing, sometimes freezes in a few seconds, with 5 ? 10 minutes being the average time it works before freezing. Seems to freeze more (often immediately) when I?m using the mouse than any other time, but it will freeze on it?s own, just idling, if you give it enough time.

I?ve read a few things including updating bios and downloading the latest motherboard drivers. My problem starts when I go to download the mobo drivers from this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

It lists 41 driver updates there for my motherboard:

41 files found

Qualified Vendor List (1)

BIOS (20) [BIOS History]

BIOS-Utilities (1)

Chipset (1)

AUDIO (1)

LAN (1)

Utilities (2)

Manual (14)

And apparently I?m ?missing? these Windows Updates:

Q934062 - Important
Q936960 - Important
Q950130 - Critical
Q951550 - Important
Q951944 - Important
Q973923 - Moderate

Question #1: Do I download all 41?? Surely my machine can?t need 41 updates? How do I know which ones to download and install?

Question #2: ... Read more

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

I tried to find these drivers on the Dell site, but since my warranty expired I'm being asked for various charges from their website and/or from the multitudinous analysis software packages available on the internet.
Aren't these drivers and/or driver software packages available somewhere to me without charge or am I out of luck? I am disabled and on a very limited budget.

It is usually best to get drivers directly from the specific hardware manufacturers website rather than from the computer manufacturer or windows update. So the answer is Yes.

A:Dell Studio XP Drivers?

A lot of prebuilt resellers are doing the whole "we're not offering Windows whatever drivers" hogwash on their websites, even if the hardware itself is compatible. I've found this with my laptop (Asus F3 series) and with my gaming rig (Asus M2N SLI Deluxe).

Usually, however, if you find the manufacturer of the hardware component itself, you can find some generic drivers or manufacturers drivers that will function.

Considering that Dell has a "switch to XP for $50" option on a lot of their desktops, I imagine you shouldn't have too much trouble.

As for your video card, there are a few sites that specialize in making generic drivers for mobile chipsets. The problem with mobile chipsets is that often a vendor will to lock you into using only their drivers, rather than the OEM drivers from ATI/AMD or Nvidia. That's why those third party sites exist.

I'd worry about the other components of your laptop more than the video card.

Hi, I have had a lot of trouble on my 6 year old Dell Desktop Dimension 2400 computer, it is too complex to go into detail here' but it has been a nightmare for nearly 4 weeks and I am still going to have do it all over again as in reinstall Win XP / or the drivers at least.

It crashes to Bluescreen every time I Insert a USB stick, Connect and start my Printer, or connect my Western Dig Ext HD which has all the stuff I backed up on.

The major problem was that I missed the "install order list" the first time (my own inexperience) but I have found another DELL list and it Contradicts the First order List anyway' Sooo! Is there a site where I can find out what I need the Order to install them and download them onto a Disk or USB as I had no internet when I first installed Widows XP that was the beginning of my downfall. I have been to DELL Forum's and tried to do the things they suggest but you cannot delete all the USB,s in Disc Manager/ Devices/ USB's/ as you have no Keyboard or Mouse half way through? Thanks if you can help Dasha

A:Can I use other drivers on a Dell computer

Wow. Yea. Sounds like your machine is currently "quite the mess"!

You should certainly start with the drivers on the Dell web site.

Always start with the chipset drivers. I'd do network and storage (IDE) drivers next then the others. Install drivers before installing the applications.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Not sure what you mean by "fill drivers" ?

All your drivers should be readily available at Dell's website
If you see a tag/ sticker that has a SNID it makes finding your machine a lot easier

My Dell Inspiron laptop died recently and I have just reinstalled Vista. I cannot play music because I have no sound. I have tried to use the Dell Drivers CD that Dell kindly sent to me but to no avail. Any ideas how I can get my sound working again. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the dell web site?

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

If the support options only have the drivers for XP then at least it will tell you what kind of sound driver you'll have to download for Vista (ex Soundmax or Creative) then you can google that+driver+vista and should be able to find the driver for it.

Be more specific:

What antiviral software is giving you this alert?
Exactly what driver file(s) is it alerting you to?

It could be a false positive just because the driver file is an .exe, but you need to provide more info...

I like to work under the thinkg that if it isn't broken don't fix it. But if Dell has released specific 7 drivers for your system. You can check what driver is installed simply by going to device manager and clicking on that device and checking the driver detail tab. If your unhappy with the graphics prefromance now then I would probably install their new driver.

I have searched everywhere for the correct drivers to install XP Pro on my new Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) but have not found the correct one.

I have downloaded the nlite software to make a new XP cd with the correct SATA drivers for XP pro but can not seem to find the correct driver that will let me install XP on the SATA hdd.

Reason for going backward in OS is the main program I use in my work will not work on anything but xp pro and windows 7 Pro.

I had the dealer where I bought the laptop, to install from Windows 8, which came on the laptop, back to windows 7 Pro and it appears that all the "things" are not there in the windows 7 pro, for much of anything to work except what seems to be just the "basics" of Windows 7. My work program will not work either.

Guess I should have asked for XP Pro at the dealer.

Anyone know which exact driver or drivers I need to get to intergrate with the XP pro OS?

Thanks and Have a Great Day,

Hi PrioSteel! Try going to Start->Right-Click On Computer->At the left bar click on Device Manager (You may get a UAC Prompt, just accept it) Check if any Devices have an Exclamation Mark on their icon (See ScreenShot) If they do, the device needs drivers.

Hi there

I googled it up for you and i found the following post by snowbro that lists all the drivers necessary for your system with corresponding links to each. Also, most of the drivers on the dell website are designed to work for all versions of Windows. So if you choose to, you can just download off of that site you were just at. Each driver, when you click on it, has a "compatability" section in its designated page, and here you will find that most have "XP" listed there.

The college I go's Computer Lab has a eBay account in which they sell used PC's that are surplus or no longer used. I bought a Dell Optiplex 780 from them. Since I was in class today and the auction ended today just 30 minutes before class, I snagged the only bid of $40. Now all the computers in the computer lab are this model and run Windows 7. I was told that Windows 7 is native to this desktop. It came with Windows 7 Pro, but if you know me, I am all about personalization so I wiped the PC clean by deleting the partitions using GParted and installed w7 myself. It says it has all the drivers except 2. technically it needs 3. The system claims that the Video drivers are already installed, but I cannot achieved a higher resolution than 1280x1024 on a 1080p (1920x1080) monitor. Sort of a stupid question, but I'd rather ask and not need to ask later.

I'm reinstalling Windows this weekend (srly) and I'm grabbing drivers from Dell for my laptop. I've grabbed all of the Chipset ones, audio, ALPs, video, and network. I'd like to not install drivers I don't need (old computer, don't need stuff lugging it down). So I'm positive I don't want the Dell QuickSet one, but I don't know about a bunch of the others...

Do I need the BIOS download?
Do I need the Communications downloads?
Do I need the Diagnostics downloads?
Do I need the System Utilities download?

Also, when I switch the hard-disk out of the tray to my new hard-drive, do I have to worry about static? If so, best way to deal?

Thanks!

A:Drivers for Dell N5010

All you need to do is get the drivers form the source. I just installed Windows 7 x64 Home Premium on one of these laptops last week. Windows 7 finds most of what you need, but the chipset drivers can be found at Intel.com and then you should know the rest of the hardware...and where to find them. Intel or Nvidia or ATI for graphics depending on how you configured the laptop.

Anytime you are installing an OS that isn't listed on Dell's site, just go to each part manufacturer's webpage to find the drivers you need. For example, if you have an Intel Wireless card, go to Intel.com and download the drivers for the model you have. People make this out to be a challenge, but it's actually very simple.

After a clean install of Windows 7 i needed to install drivers for my graphics, the CD i got with my laptop won't install the Drivers and when I try and download them from Dell's driver site it will download around 5-10% before it suddenly stops and says its done. I've tried doing this on two other computers I own, in different browsers and they all do the same thing. The download size on the site says 155MB but the file size is only 46MB.

When i try and open the Driver that is downloaded it comes up saying:
"This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set"

(I did try my Driver disk, but nothing happened)

I keep clicking OK, and it comes up with:
"An error occured while unzipping. One or more files were not succesfully unzipped. The error code is 110"

I tried a Google search for the error code but not of them talk about the Drivers or a zip file. I'm at a loss... Please help? I'm sick of having my res set low because it wont go any higher.
(I wasn't 100% about putting this here or in another section, sorry if I got it wrong)

Trying to restore an old Dell System 210 286 machine and I am having a real tough time finding the EMS or expanded memory driver for this machine.  Looking on the old support pages there is a reference detail to the Expanded memory driver and the switches.  They say the driver is MM.SYS  Does anyone that works for dell or has access to some archived files might have this driver file.  I know its 25 years later, but it would be an awesome testament to get this 286 working again 100 percent like it did.  This is about the last step to having the system back up and running like it would be back in 1991.

Hi Everyone. I really need your help.

I have a Dell Deminsion 4550. I bought it last year from someone I used to work with. I did not get any of the back up cds or paper work with it.

A few months ago the hard drive went bad on it. I replaced it. I got a friend to reinstall Windows XP and we thought it would work fine.

I have DSL, but I am unable to get on line with the Dell computer. Right now I am using a friends computer and its hooked up at my house.

The problems I have found are:

I have NO LAN settings - None. When I go to network connections for are NONE.

Then I go to devices, hardware and are bright yellow questions marks ?????? next to

?? Ethernet controller
?? Multi Media Audio Controller
?? PCI Input Drive
?? Texas Instruments RNDRS Adapter

I went to Dell's support site and I have no idea what drivers to download.

I downloaded some of them, but it did not help.

What do I need to do? Which ones do I download? Where do I need to get them from?

I have just got a new laptop for my mum a dell Inspiron 15-3520 with windows 8 on frist think i did was put windows 7 on, everythink when well apart from the webcam does not work now. Got the drivers and software from the dell website and when i open the dell webcam software it says that the webcam is not supported. In the device manager it just cums up with intergrated cam and does not let me upgrade drivers or change them.

A:Drivers Not Working For Dell Webcam.

I don't see a web cam driver listed on the Dell downloads for Win 7 64 bit. However I'm looking at the general downloads and not specific for your service tag number. Also the My Dell Downloads will have additional software.

It could be that specific web cam is not fully supported in Win 7.

You should repost your problem on the Dell community forum where those specifically familiar with Dell hardware and software can help you. Laptop - Dell Community

So I have a Dell SmartPC200D that needs a complete wipe to remove the malware infesting the hdd. Thing is, I can't locate the drivers for the thing online. Where to go next?
The closest thing I can find on Dell's site is '150D' and '300D' drivers, but who's to know what could go wrong by using the wrong set of system drivers... It's worth noting the system was purchased in China; therefore Dell USA (English!) doesn't offer tech. support in any form. According to them help is just a toll phone call away to Kuala Lampur. Does any helpful folk here know what the Americanized equivalent of this box is called and if the drivers will work? Thanks in advance.

So I recently installed Windows 7 on a brand new hard drive on my Dell Studio 1558. I took it to a russian guy in a repair shop to install the drivers and utilities for me since I did not know which drivers I needed. But now that I got my laptop back things are working fine, except for some small things. First is when I adjust my volume, theres no small interface showing volume level while on my old hard drive is was there. Secondly my eject button is not working but can still eject using My Computer. Another is no more notification of Caps Lock in use or not.

So what Im wondering is, could it be that Russian guy installed the drivers incorrectly or in the wrong order as what Dell says?

What is the make and model of the Dell, do you have a Dell Asset tag #? Write that info down and go to a working computer with internet access and download the Ethernet driver for your computer from Dell http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen onto a flash drive and install it on this computer. Once that is installed then you can go to the Dell Support site to download any other drivers your missing in the Device Manager (sound, Video, chipset etc) with this computer.

Hi all
I have been trying, for the last 2 days, to install Win 7 (64 bit) to my Dell XPS 720. I performed the pre-install check and it reported no problems. As I was going from Vista 32 bit to Win7 64 bit I knew I would have to perform a clean install.

I have installed about 6 times over the last couple of days and the system seems fine for maybe 20 minutes at which point one of two things happens.

either

1. it reboots after a brief blue screen message regarding BAD_POOL_HEADER (too quick to read)

2. it hangs and performs a dump with a BSOD regarding NVSTOR.SYS

I'm assuming that the problem is with the NVSTOR.SYS driver(s) for the motherboard NVIDIA RAID arrays. I have 4 disks in 2 RAID 0 arrays of a 1TB each.
Dell does not list the PC as Win 7 compatible and there are no Win7 64 bit RAID drivers listed although it does list Vista 64 bit drivers as a download. I have tried these but Win7 doesn't seem to want to update the driver saying I already have the latest drivers installed (from the Windows 7 DVD).

Anyone else had this problem and been able to cure it. I'm writing this from the PC with the 32 bit version installed and working fine. I need 64 bit to address the 8gb of memory for some very intensive video and photoshop work I do.

A:Failing Dell 64 bit RAID drivers

I believe you can force Windows to install the drivers you choose even if it thinks the currently installed drivers are more recent. Try that.

Dell Inspiron N5010, Service Tag 4Z166N1, Express Service Code 10825413661.

I replaced the dead hard disk and have set up Windows 7 Home Premium from the Dell-branded DVD and I can't find drivers on the Dell web site. This is the first time ever I have run into a situation where there are no drivers available from Dell on a near-new computer.

Ive tried the Everest program to identify the hardware; but, everything except the network card is listed as [nodb] except the network card which is identified as RTL8139/810x. I found that driver; but, it doesn't work for the network card.

So, I'm down to zero drivers.

A:Solved: No drivers available from Dell on this near new laptop

Never mind. I found them and I'm feeling a little silly. They were there on the Dell web site. I just didn't see an obvious link.

I saw in this thread

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/1043057-solved-inspiron-n5050-xp-drivers.html

that XP drivers were found for the N5050. The author said to PM them if we need the drivers, but as a new member I can't PM anyone, so I'm asking here.

So far I have:

Audio: http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R302718.exe
Chipset: http://ftp.us.dell.com/chipset/R302427.exe
Ethernet: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
Wireless: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?c=&s=&cs=&l=&DriverId=R297121
Graphics: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21223&ProdId=3319&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%20XP%20%20Professional*&DownloadType=%0ADrivers%0A

But I still need Bluetooth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Looking for Dell Inspiron N5050 Drivers for XP

If Dell Kris sees your thread, he/she may be able to help you.

------------------------------------------------------------

Since you're downgrading from Windows 7 to Windows XP, I have doubts that the bluetooth and webcam devices will have drivers and will work.

You're lucky there are Windows XP drivers for the graphics and audio and ethernet/wireless devices - the primary ones.

After formating hard drive when the F6 prompt come up at the beginning of the installation for nvidia mediashield drivers the installation will not accept them...I have the right drivers on a floppy but is there a better way...slipstreaming? my boot sequence starts w/ cd bios now on default settings I have xp mce sp2..Thanks for any advice...

A:sata drivers for dell xps600

In my experience, using F6 during the install is only for onboard controller drivers. Nvidia mediasheild is for the sata?

If it is, is your hard drive seen by the install without doing F6? You might not need to press F6.
