Wifi Switch Not Working

Q: Wifi Switch Not Working

So the wifi switch on my computer is broken off, although i am unsure how it happened. The places I have taken it to with questions have only told me expensive solutions for it such as having to replace the entire motherboard (which seems strange to me just because of one switch) anyways, I have wireless internet in my house, but cannot use it on my laptop so for anything that involves internet connection the laptop is useless. I also bought one of those netgear wireless usb adaptors and am still not able to get internet.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

A: Wifi Switch Not Working

I may be wrong but the wifi switch should not affect an external USB adapter. What were the issues you were having when you installed the Netgear Wireless USB? Did you disable the internal wifi adapter (either in Windows or BIOS) prior to installing?

Hi guys! I'm new to this forum but I come here in the hope that you can help me figure out why is it that when I connect my TiVo to my linksys router(configured as a switch), I STOP HAVING WIFI! Don't know why... As soon as I turn the TiVo box off the wifi starts working(as soon as I reboot the router)... The TiVo works perfectly, no breaks and perfectly connected to the network, but that specific router switch where it is connected, stops functioning though wifi(can't even connect!)

The setup I wish to use(and that is currently working) is:

Modem router(Thomson)---through cable to another router(with dhcp and nat disabled)airporttime capsule)--- through cable to another router(linksys) also with dhcp and nat disabled... Everything works when not using the TiVo box...
The only switch that stops working is the linksys(the one to which the tivo is connected)

Hi Shayashkar,

Have you checked first of all that the wireless switch is enabled on the right hand side? Also go in to the BIOS (F2 on startup) and check that the Wireless Switch is set to "ALL" and the Wireless Device Enable is set to "ALL"
If it is still not turning on, I'd suggest updating the Wireless Driver. Follow this link [View:]
and choose Network and download the latest driver for your WLAN card. If you know the Service Tag enter that and it will list the drivers for your particular configuration. Let me know if the issue is resolved or if you are still having issues.

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

Thanks.

When I troubleshoot the network adapter, I get a messAge that reads that my wireless capability is turned off. When I go to the Gateway Device fast lane, my WiFi is on. But when I look in networks it as shows WiFi off and I am unable to turn it on that way. When I go to wireless devices in pc settings, the toggle button for the wire device is grey, therefore I am unable to switch it on- It used to work.

Also, while in the Gateway Device fast lane, when I press the F3 key the airplane mode goes on...the WiFi goes off...by comes right back on. Please help...

HI Michael, If you go to the Control Panel, and select the "Network and Sharing Center" item, in the bottom left of the screen there should be a "HP Wireless Assistant" link in the "See Also" section. Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and my apologies if I have posted in the wrong field with this query...

I have a customers Packard Bell Easynote MX37 laptop that I have installed Windows 7 on... Original OS Vista Home Premium.

The problem I am faced with is the WiFi switch.

The WiFi switch will activate itself on start up and enable wireless connection, but if the switch is pressed it disables wireless and stays disabled, no matter how many times switch is pressed. Once laptop is restarted it will become active again...

I am stuck on how to proceed with this problem and any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Did it work as expected with Vista? Maybe there is a Packard Bell WLAN utility you need to download from their web site? If no Windows 7 one maybe a Vista one that will still work.

Is the switch a toggle or slide switch?

I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.

I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.

Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

Thanks

A:WIFI on/off switch is grayed out

So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.

I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.

Hi All,

I have a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) that is mounted in a docking station. In my house I have wifi, the docking station is connected to the router via hard LAN.

I have prioritized my connections to give preference to LAN over wifi (as I obviously prefer the fastest connection).

The Network sharing center now tells me I am connected to both LAN and Wifi, but the system tray tells me Wifi. How do I know through which I am now connected and how to I prioritize LAN? Please don't tell me to manually enable / disable ;-)

Thanks a lot!

Hello @Banti2?, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 upgrade, and wanted to assist you!You can use the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10.  Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!

When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?

What make/model is the computer?

If it is a slide switch and you broke off the part that sticks outside the case, you might be able to use a toothpick or other small stiff object to reach through the slot and slide it to the ON position.

Hi,
I run an Ethernet cable to my modem for my Windows 10 PC. But unfortunately I have a lot of drop outs where the internet just stops (something I am taking up with my provider) and I have a pocket wifi to use as a back up.

My PC can find the wifi and connect but the only way I can get it to connect is by pulling out the blue Ethernet cable from the actual pc. (When I say connect, I mean it is "connected" already but not in use, the small box appears for the ethernet cable rather than the wifi icon)

I would like to know if there is a way to either run the wifi simultaneously with the Ethernet cable plugged in or if there is a way to "turn off" the Ethernet connection from my pc when it goes down, so that I dont have to keep unplugging it.

I am not very technically minded and am worried if I go into advanced network settings etc that I might not be able to get the Ethernet working again once it is plugged in and back up and running.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

A:How can I switch to WIFI from Ethernet instantly??

You can have both plugged in and still work. Each NIC is assigned a metric and the NIC with the lowest metric will be used. If in your are the wired NIC is still seen as available but in fact it's having problems the computer will still try and use it unless you unplug the cable. If your computer supports a feature called LAN/WLAN switching that may work in your case that may work or may suffer from the same problem in which the wired NIC is still detected as connected and it won't switch. If you are only having an issue with the wired connection why not just stay on wireless?

Hello I just bought a brand new computer 3 days ago. Haven't been using it that long. It's an HP Envy 810qe or something like that. The first day I played on it 77 windows updates were downloaded.

The computer has built in Bluetooth which I love but I noticed it was always-on and was wondering if there was an on/off switch. I searched Google and seen there is an on/off switch in PC Settings, PC Devices, Bluetooth. Unfortunately I do not have this. Also under PC Settings and Network I do not have an on/off switch for the wifi. I also don't have anything in PC Settings called Wireless. I talked with HP support (since I just bought this computer) their only option was to do a System Restore or Recovery. I talked to Microsoft support and their only option was to pay for a premium membership so they could use their 'advanced tools' to scan my system and find out the problem. (which is my long history of dealing with computers and support their answer would have probably been the same which was System Restore or Recovery, at which who even knows if this is going to fix the problem)

So now I come to this community my first time here (wave) asking for assistance. I temporarily disabled my Bluetooth in Device Manager because I don't know if it's safe to have it constantly on if I'm not using it. I've seen on here there are other people who have had the same problem but I didn't see a definite solution on the couple threads I read. Also just before disabling my Bluetooth I ran HP s... A:Bluetooth and Wifi no on/off switch in PC settings

Hi summerbear. I can try something that works on my MSI laptop (a great brand BTW), and I think most of todays' laptops.
Usualy there's an allin1 manager to all of the options you mentioned, and it is accessible through the start line in windows (at the bottom). Most of the time you don't see all the icons of programs running, and there's a little upward arrow in far right side of the start line, that if clicked reveals sound, storage, and allin1 managers installed in your system. In my laptop this manager program that includes control over volume, wi-fi, and bluetooth, is called SCM. I'm not sure that HP's has the exact same program but there's supposed to be some type of allin1. If you don't find any try typing "Bluetooth" in windows search (through the start button), and shutting down wi-fi is also possible by clicking the network bars in the far right, thus accessing the list of nearby wi-fi networks, choosing the one you're connected to, and clicking "disconnect".
Hope I helped, goodluck.
Amit.

Hi,

I think I know what I want, but I just wanted to check before I splashed the cash and made the wrong choice!

I have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.

I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.

The one I was looking at was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JV42A0/sr=1-1/qid=1325091993/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1325091993&sr=1-1&seller=. This seems very cheap.

Can anyone tell me if this will do what I want & whether there is anything better without spending a fortune?

Many thanks in advance
Tom

I think your Tecra S11 should be still under warranty and in such cases the repair would be for free. :)

A:Disable WiFi hardware switch on laptop

If he can't turn off the WiFi what will stop him from just powering the system down?

There may be a way to catch the key using AutoHotkey. You would have to have a script running that echos the vk key codes as each key is pressed. Once you know the code for the WiFi key you can just intercept it with a one line script.

But he could still just close the program running the script or hold down the power button.

The title basically spells it out. I would like to know if leaving my WiFi switch on my laptop on all the time is a bad idea? Would I see any performance hit because my system is constantly looking for a WiFi signal?

A:Is it alright if I leave my Wifi switch on all the time?

I leave my switch on all the time and have never seen any performance hit. It would be mighty inconvenient to keep it switched off, then switch it on everytime I need to use the internet.

And your system is not constantly looking for a wifi signal. Once you've connected to your home network, it would stay connected to that.

Hi, I'm Antonio. About a month ago, while I was doing work, I tried to access Ubuntu from my jump drive to look at a certain application (don't remember what). Couldn't get the wifi working in Ubuntu (as had happened in the past), so I gave up. When I got back to Windows 8, the wi-fi was not working in Windows, either! It's still not working. Despite the wifi switch being clearly in the "on" position, it doesn't think the wifi is on. Toggling the switch with the Device manager open shows the Bluetooth drivers popping in and out, so the switch is physically working, at any rate. The wifi drivers stay put, and Device Manager thinks they're working fine.

Sony Vaio S series laptop (VPCSB11FX). Windows 8, 64-bit. I've tried:

-Deleting and re-installing drivers.
-Deleting and re-enabling.
-Doing a system refresh.

If I go back into Ubuntu (as I'm doing now), I can fire off an "rfkill unblock all" command, and the wifi works. Hardware swtich and all. How do I get Windows to think my switch is on, and that my hardware is working?

I have a Toshiba satellite L350D 01M laptop. My warranty period is over and I wanted to clean out the fans etc... and I have taken apart many laptops in the past but man it was hard to get all the connectors from the keyboard etc hooked up without unplugging another one because of the lack of wiggle room, how the guys at Toshiba put them together i will never know anyway i finally managed to get them all hooked up and the case back together but the wifi radio switch next to the SD slot was not aligned properly and rather than go through the nightmare of hooking it all back up again i forced the switch a little too much well actually a lot too much as i busted the dang thing right off.

so now i can't switch on the wifi which ain't that bad for home 'cause i have a wired modem but when i am out and about i need the wifi capability. someone suggested bridging the two connections i can see inside (a guy at staples) but that if it did work each time i shut it down i would have to bridge it again, well I tried that and I did something wrong as the whole system shut off like a lightening bolt and i thought i fried the motherboard as i couldn't get it to turn on, but i unhooked the battery unplugged and held down the power button for ten seconds then i plugged it back in minus the battery and luckily it worked, there is no way i am going to try that again and if i don't have to (i can't afford it anyway) is there anyway i can bypass the hardwire switch... And user can access internet only through this particular SSID(HR) and remaing SSIDs are used by other important users. when user comes to us with this issue, we are adding it manually in Network sharing and Center>Manage wireless>Add . when user connects this SSID(HR), it takes windows login ID and password as credentials. there is no issue with other SSIDs.

I found the solution. I removed the BIOS battery for 5 Min and after this everything worked. Still if someone knows another approach it will be better.

Hey - my hardware wifi switch keeps breaking, thinking it's in the off position. I can temporarily fix it by opening up the laptop and jigger the connections, but this takes a full hour every time i do it, and it only seems to last a month or so, then it breaks again and i have to open up the computer again.  Is it possible to simply disable the hardware switch?

Have you considered soldering a jumper across the switch?

Good afternoon,

I have a networking question.

Can I plug a 5 port Ethernet switch to my DSL modem, connect 2 PCs to the switch, run a cable from the switch to the far end of my house, connect a Wireless n router for WIFI access for my laptop/iPhone and connect another PC, one BluRay player and a couple DirectTV DVRs to the wireless router? Please see attached diagram.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi First of all there is an option in Device Manager; VIEW; Show hidden devices  The faint entries are hidden, like my Zyxel G202 because it is disconnected.   Also.... As an adminstrator, in a Command Prompt Window, typegetmacThis will list MAC addresses for those items that are present, and may not be connected.A good number would be 3,1 x Ethernet1 x Wi-Fi1 x Bluetoothand then typeipconfigand in the long list look for named devices have a matching MAC address.Along with Device manager this is a way to determine the number of devices. additionally type netsh wlan show driversnetsh wlan show interfaces and report the results please.

This is my first time posting so i hope its in the right place. Here it goes:

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:

1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.

After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Hahaahahaha don't look at the other tab

A:WiFi not working after replacing WiFi card [BCM94352HMB]

Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.

I have succesfully used a Hyper-V virtual switch connected to the wireless adapter in my laptop. All my VM's could access my LAN independently, and could get an ip address from the DHCP server. This means, AFAIK, that my wireless adapter can and does opererate in promiscuous mode.

This worked up to build 10586. Today, I upgraded to build 11102, and this setup no longer works. It appears that wifi adapters are simply not supported with Hyper-V virtual switches. Bummer.

When you try to configure a wifi adapter in a virtual switch, it is not simply grayed out, or otherwise made impossible, but it tries to go ahead and then gives an error message (see attachment)

This does not make sense. There is no other bridge or switch configured.

I found two work-arounds:

- configure the wired ethernet adapter to the virtual switch, and create a bridge connection between the wired and the wifi adapters. For me this does not work, because I get an other error trying to create the bridge connection, which I will report in an other thread.

- use ICS. This works, but has the huge disadvantage of having a NAT layer between the VM's and the rest of my network.

Has anyone experimented with this, too?

Bart

A:Wifi adapter no longer supported in Hyper-V virtual switch

I am now at build 14257. I am still not able to create a virtual switch which connects to my wireless adapter.

I have an HP Zbook 14. I have had this laptop for almost a year and never had a problem connecting wireless.
The other day, my laptop froze up and was unresponsive. I rebooted it and noticed immediately a message about a hash mismatch, but the laptop continued to reboot. After coming up, I could no longer connect wireless, even though the light is on. Troubleshooting
efforts keeps saying to enable the wireless switch, which it is on.
I have done numerous tasks, disable then enable, press the wireless button on and off. Currently I am hardwired in and thought if I unplugged the Ethernet cable, it would pick up the wireless but it did not.
Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks

We have had WiFi for about 10 days now, and everything was ok until yesterday. WiFi went down, for some reason. We have 2 desktops PCs connected to router via cables, and 2 smartphones (Google Nexus S running Android 4.0.3 and Nokia N96 running old Symbian, if it matters) that go with without wires. The thing is, when my brother, turns on his PC, WiFi doesn't work for any of us, not on my PC nor on any smartphone, or his PC. When he shuts his PC down, it's all OK again. He did install (automatic) Windows Update.
Why is this all of a sudden happening? And how do we fix it?

I have been working with a software company to resolve some major memory managing problems. This is a very high end CAD / CAM program. It is used to make what is called tool path to cut parts out on a cnc milling machine. The tool path generation process if very system resource intense.

They have implemented a 3 GB switch they tell me this is a very common system enhancement and could help my memory problems.

I setup this up but it is not working properly. When I boot up into the 3GB mode the system becomes very unstable, apps will not load, folders will not open, basically a comply useless system.

Any input on why its not functioning as they say it should be?

My system specs are

Dell Precision 650 Workstation

A:3 GB switch in XP not working

Hi Bill_B !

Dell Precision 650 Workstation

What video card do you have ?

How many and what programs are running in the background ?

Can't really say what causes your system to run erratically with the /3GB switch but here's food for thought : http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...ng-274199.html. The part about the /3GB switch is at the end of post#11 but you should read it all to get the whole picture. Report your current memory use in the task manager's performances tab (howto in post #11).

If your program exists in a 64bit version it'll make better use of your RAM on a 64bis OS.

A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.

Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off

So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

A:Wifi not working on ASUS laptop, LAN working fine

Maybe the switch or adapter is defective. Some other ideas ...

Do you have an ASUS utility to also turn the wireless on/off? (I have an HP utility on one of my laptops that will individually control the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if the physical switch is on.)

In Device Manager right click on the adapter - Properties - Advanced tab. Sometimes there is a Property in there that allows turning the adapter on/off.

If the card is easily accessible through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

I would have to say on the motherboard but without any info like make and model of computer or make and model of motherboard it is impossible to say where. Usually there might be silkscreening on the motherboard that tells where things plug into and the pins are usually keyed so the connectors only fit one way so give looking and reading a shot.

Hello,

I have got a Belkin KVM switch model: F1DP108G, and I have 6 servers connected to it, however the 7th server is having trouble using the monitor. the 6 servers are old dell servers poweredge 1450, but the 7th server is a dell poweredge 1650 rack server. the Belkin KVM switch is different from the rest, it uses a cat5 cable instead of a 2 ps/2 and a vga, so using the Cat5, the other end is plugged into another device called SMB server interface module ps/2 model: F1DP101A-AP, then that device plugs into the servers. as i said all other 6 servers work fine, but the 7th gives this message on the screen when I switch to it, "DPMS standby mode" then I move the plugs around and it shows me this message after "frequency over range" please help.

A:on/off switch not working properly

It is not the on-off switch it is the motherboard or the battery. Is the battery original? You might try a replacement. The battery can fail so that it prevents the laptop from turning one when inserted. I gather it will start on AC power reliably, as long as the battery is not inserted and then you can hot-plug the battery in once it is running?

I have a 2 year old Sony Vaio laptop, running Windows XP Pro with built in wi-fi, which up until last night was working perfectly.
The problem is when I went to move the slider switch to 'On' this morning, the green light failed to come on, and i can't connect to the network. The slider feels a little loose too.
Also, when I went to shut down last night (Well, i put it into 'hibernation' mode...which means it boots up quicker), it just 'hung' saying what it was going to do....i accidentally closed the lid, then opened it back up.....i tried to reboot, but it wasn't having it, so i took out the battery hoping that would help....which it did, then i booted back up......i think this may be the reason i can't connect.......i've switched off and put back on all my router plugs etc, but to no avail.i can still connect to my desktop ok.
So, any ideas? What went wrong and can it be fixed? is it a loose wire inside?
Any help appreciated guys!
Thanks!!!

I have a Leviton structured netwrk cabinet. I have Comcast cable attached to a Dell Power Connect 2708 switch. Th switch attaches to the Leviton hub. There is a Linksys WRT54G attached to a network outlet in another part of the house. There are 2 computers and a Synology storage device attached to the router.I also access the router wirelessly.
I only recently moved the modem to the Leviton closet and connected it via the switch instead of the router.
I had the Synology attached to the switch before but since I moved the cable modem I can not see the Synology unless I move it to the router. I also can not see the network when I try to attach a computer to a network location any where else in the house. I have internet access but not netwrk access in those locations.
Can someone help me with why I can only use the network directly thru the router. I'd like to be able to use the network elsewhere in nthe house and it would be preferaable to hqave the Synology attached to the switch.

Do I need a new motherboard?

I bought a new fan that plugs into the motherboard. The computer started fine 2 times. On the third attempt to start, nothing happened when I pressed the on/off switch. No fan, no sound, no nothing. There is, however, a small green light near the modem card that lights up when power is applied (it shows capacitance, because it dims out slowly after removing power). That is the only sign of life. The Power supply is confirmed to be fine!

The only odd thing to remark, is that, on the two successful starts (after installing the new fan), the first start booted directly to the Windows Setup screen (I exited with no changes to config) while the second start booted to a Setup screen I've never seen before and can't remember the details now (I selected continue and everything was fine).

I use XP Pro on an old motherboard, with similarly old BIOS, Pentium 3 (??) and 1G RAM.

Any ideas ? Need more description of components?

The shop says I need a motherboard !

It sounds like the new fan is writing instructions somehow. Could be electrical dissonance, or faulty fan.

When I hit the power switch nothing happens, I have to reach around and flip the PSU switch on and on again, then hit the power button and it starts up just fine. I have a EI Systems laptop, with 256MB Ram, 40GB Hard drive. It runs on Windows XP SP2 and was recently running slower than usual. So after a number of tries to return it to its original speed, i gave up and decided i would re-format it.

The only problem was that when i got the laptop, it never came with a disc to do such a thing. So i found the SP3 XP disc that was hidden away somewhere, which came with my PC. So i just assumed that would work.

I overwrote my original partition, as i have done on my PC before. After a couple of hours, the installation finished and everything had worked. Well, i say everything... my WLAN switch on the laptop refused to turn on. It didn't light up, flash, nothing. The internet didnt work, and still isnt.

I think it might be a driver error, but i dont have a clue how to resolve this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.By the way, the switch is not turned on Via Fn + F# like some laptops. Its a built in switch. Which now doesn't turn on.

Hello!

Here is my problem with a little back story.

On the night of 22nd December everything was fine. I went to bed and left the computer running to watch a movie(Pulled out the Headphones[front jack] to activate the speakers[rear jack]). I used the program "Hot Keyboard Pro" to shut my PC down(I fell a sleep before the PC shut down). When I woke up the next morning and pressed my PC power button nothing happened. So I bought a new PSU today and switched it out.

Now the PC is working just fine except there is no sound. I checked in the device manager, under "Sound, video and game controllers", it shows "Realtek High Definition Audio". And when I double-click it, the "Device Status" is "This device is working properly".

When I open my Playback devices, it shows that my headphones(front 3.5mm jack) are plugged in but my speakers(rear 3.5mm jack) aren't. Also my microphone, which is in the rear jack, shows in unplugged. And what I noticed is that, when I turn something that should generate sound on(Youtube for example), the volume levels start moving in the volume mixer.

Here you can find my hardware:
HP Pavilion Elite m9065.sc Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion Elite m9065.sc Desktop PC | HP? Support

(And I have another small question, is it normal for new PSU-s to smell a bit? Like this weird electric smell.)

A:No sound after PSU switch(old one stopped working)

Unplug mic and headset and reboot...then check sound with speakers, if it works then check with headset and mic.

Hello,

I have an Antec 900 case and a Nvidia Nforce 680i SLI Motherboard and the power button has been going bad for the last few months. Last night I powered down and it won't restart.

I removed the power switch and swapped it with the reset, and still doesn't work.

I then cut off the power switch and made a direct connection with the two ends, still not working.

I then read an article that you can test it by directly making a connection by using a screw driver to connect the two pins on the motherboard. Still didnt work.

My question: Is there a way to bypass the connection on the mother board?

If these pins are dead does that mean I need a new motherboard?

Does anyone have any idea for a fix for this?

Thanks for any help and happy fathers day.

A:Help please power on/off switch not working on motherboard

How do you know its not the power supply? I'd be suspecting the power supply and trying another one.

This is my friend's Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 2727 laptop. It's running Windows Vista Home (Basic), SP2.

She claims that when here, at home, the wireless does not work. I ran the diagnostic and it said wireless was not turned on, and that I needed to either find the wireless switch on the laptop itself (which there isn't one) or use the function shortcut (which is Fn + F1). It appears that non of the Fn keys are working, e.g. screen brightness etc. and this may be the only reason why we can't turn the wireless on. However, she claims that the wireless works in some other locations, e.g. at her boyfriends or on uni campus.

Some guy behind the tech desk at uni said it could be conflicting anti-virus software, but we uninstalled it all and still nothing.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Kind regards

Hi!

When i go to the Switch Between Windows icon and press it, instead of displaying the windows in a row that moves around like it used to, it now just shows them in a box in the centre of the screen?!

Please help me?

A:Switch Between Windows is not working properly?!

Apparently that's not an XP problem and would be better moved to the appropriate forum.

But anyway, Click Here and read what others have found to reset that feature.

I have an Acer TravelMate 290 (running XP) and have recently installed a BT broadband homehub. I initially had no problems accessing the wireless network but then my PC stopped detecting any wireless networks - as though the radio was off. Now I cannot switch my radio on - the switch on the PC is not working at all. The problem began once I brought the PC out of hibernation after having (accidently) switched the homehub off and on.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the BT software, updating the wireless driver (from the Acer website) - all with no success.

Something that may or may not be relevant is that I also recently installed a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse onto the laptop.

Has anybody experienced similar problems or have any suggestions? Advice gratefully received.

I have the XP Home edition. When I click on Start/Log Off/Switch User nothing happens. The hard drive activity light flashes for a bit then goes out. The only way that I can actually switch users is to click Start/Log Off/Log Off and then select another user.

If I click Use Fast User Switching then both Use the Welcome screen and Use Fast User Switching are checked. When I click Apply Options and go back to check the settings, only the Use the Welcome screen is checked. I have even rebooted the system but the Use the Welcome screen is the only option checked.

Can anyone help me with this? Is there something in System Services that I need to look at?

Hello!
About a year ago, the newest monitor for our home's main computer stopped functioning, so it had stopped being used. However, today I was in search of some files I needed that were on our old main computer, so I hooked up the old monitor that came with that computer and it didn't work as well. (The old monitor worked on a different computer). I tried hooking up a few other spare monitors to the old computer, but it they also did not work either. I came to the conclusion that the monitor input had crashed.

So, here's my question: Is it possible to use a KVM switch to display the old computers monitor display on my laptop to get access to my files, even without the old computer's monitor input functioning?

Hi

I travel a lot and use my machine on a lot of different wireless and hotel networks. Dell XPS M1210 with an Intel wireless driver and a broadcomm network card, correct drivers for both.
Before I installed SP3, everything used to work fine. I could arrive at another network, connect and IE would work. Since I've installed SP3, the only way I can get IE to work on another network is by rebooting the machine. The underlying stack is ok, I can ping web addresses, Mail Washer and email work fine, it's just IE that will not connect.
I have tried:
disabling, enabling the connection.
ipconfig release, flushdns and renew
Disabled my firewall

all to know avail.

I did a network diagnostics thru Explorer, everything was ok except HTTP.
I was going to paste it here but the xsl is missing so the data is rubbish. I'll try and reproduce it soon. Can anyone help in the meantime?

Thanks

I have an Aspire One netbook with the wireless on/off switch in the front right position. It has stopped responding, and now I have to go into network connections every time I want to enable or disable wireless. A minor annoyance, but if there is an easy way to get the switch working again, I'd appreciate any help. Windows XP.

I have two computers and want to be able to run both with one monitor, keyboard and mouse. I bought a Trendnet TK-209 switch to accomplish this task. My problem is that computer #2, a Dell Optiplex 320, will not start up if the keybord and mouse are connected to the switch. It gets stuck at the Dell Bios Screen. In order to boot this machine I have to unplug the keybord and mouse from the switch and plug them into the computer. Once it is booted up and working properly I can connect the plugs for the keyboard and the mouse into the switch and everything works just fine. I checked both sides of the switch to make sure everything is working within the switch. To do the check I plugged computer # 1, an e-machine, into the monitor switch on one side of the switch, along with the keyboard and mouse - worked fine. Then moved the monitor plug into #2 and it worked fine again with the keyboard and mouse still run through the switch.

When I connect the Dell Optiplex 320 to the switch it will not boot properly. If I remove the keyboard and mouse from the switch and plug them into the computer it boots properly. So, I can run the monitor through the switch with no problems. It is just the mouse and keyboard that is causing the problem.

I have Windows XP on both computers - though really don't think that is where the problem is!

Are there any solutions to this problem, other than moving the keyboard and mouse plugs every time I want to turn the Dell computer on? I'm not co... Read more

A:Trendnet TK-209 KVM Switch not working with Dell Computer

Make sure you are plugging the USB cable from the Switch into the Back USB port of the Dell Computer. the KVM Switch has little icons on the switch to tell you which slot is for the keyboard and the mouse. Be sure you have the right device plugged into the right port. If that fails, download the Utility Version which fixes Auto Scan Issues. If you still have problems, contact their support.

Hello. Some time ago, the "Switch between windows" icon on the taskbar went missing, so I looked up on Google on how to bring it back. The thing is, ALL the solutions I found (including the ones in this forum) are for the 3D function of switching between windows... Something that doesn't work on Vista Home Basic, which I happen to have. So now I have a useless icon that doesn't work since I'm not pointing it to the proper address.

The answers I found point the icon to "C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe dwmapi #105", which is to activate 3D flipping; again, I have Vista Home Basic so this doesn't work. The question is: What is the proper address/dwmapi function/shell command to call Switch Between Windows in my Vista version?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the following method?

--
Open Windows Explorer, then go to the following location:
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

(In the folder titled Quick Launch, there should be a shortcut that reads "switch between Windows"

Right click the shortcut

Choose Copy.

Next, paste the file in the EXACT same location in your USER folder.

*In addition you can paste the file onto the desktop and then drag it onto the Quick Launch Toolbar.*

Let me know if that helps, or if you already tried it before.
