sudden error message CPU has been changed or CPU Ratio changed failed

Q: sudden error message CPU has been changed or CPU Ratio changed failed

Turned on my comupter this morning and got the following errors: I have not opened the computer tower, I have not added or removed any drives:

Primary IDE channel NO 80 Conductor cable installed
Flopply Disk 40 missing

Then restarted system and got this message:
"cpu has been changed or CPU Ratio change failed"

Hit F1 to continue or DEL go to into setup

I have gone to CMOS set up and used f7 to optimize and hit f10 to save
come back with the third error.

this computer has always done a memory test when it starts up 99% of the time I let it run, total startup time if I do, 10minutes, if I skip memory test still 10 minutes.

Now slower than ever trying to start up

I have read your various threads and none I found discuss these errors just suddenly apprearing. This computer was a built from scratch by an IT friend of mine who has moved away I have all the documentation that came with it.

I have tried system restore back one week did not work, I was following ASK tech page guide and downloaded REGSERVO program came back with 6800 errors and wanted 39.00, well as you know the economy is in the tank and I do not have the extra money, but i do have the extra time if someone could walk me through what to do.

I use Norton utilities and clean the drive/registries/and explorer weekly.
Please send any advise possible
Thank you

A: sudden error message CPU has been changed or CPU Ratio changed failed

REGSERVO is a Rogue program that tells you, you have problems and "we will fix them for you for $39.00!" "But. Wait! for an extra amount for shipping and handling we will really screw your Windows installation up!"

Of course they make you wait until they find the registry errors to tell you that you have to pay $39.00. I just did a google search on REGSERVO and the only ones that give RegServo good reviews are, and hear is the drum roll, Regservo itself. Stay away from any of these programs that say they will fix your registry then want money to fix the problems they found.

Also there is no need to run any registry cleaner. More often than not it will not help your problem or speed up your computer, and can indeed break your registry to the extent of having to reinstall windows.

If this is the system in yur Computer specs, have you been having any problems with needing to adjust the date and time lately?

I recently purchased the

Wintergreen PM800-M2 Socket 478 Barebone Kit / 52x32x52x CD-RW / Modem / 350 Watt Power Supply / Keyboard / Mouse / Speakers

I put in the Prescot 3.0E 1M L2 Catch CPU and 512MB Kingston 3200 DDR ram also it has a Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM hard drive

When I start the pc it gives the message above, also it does not let me save the cmos settings for cpu i.e. it just hangs but it does let me change the settings for date time etc so I think it rules out a bad cmos battery.

I have also double checked the heat sink and fan connection + the memory.

The CPU is running at 58 degrees according to the cmos/bios

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem (but on an Abit board) - it turned out to be defective memory so I siggest you run memtest for an hour (, which is a bootable CD or Floppy.

Bear with me, I'm new to posting these things. I just installed a new motherboard and I get the CPU ratio change fail error every time. I have tried everything I have read on all the forums and nothing seems to work. I have swapped the battery, selected and saved the optimized CMOS settings, reset the CMOS, swapped the ram. Everything I've tried fails. All I can get is the Windows start screen for a split second. I hope someone has some insight for me.
Here are my relevant system specs: (as far as I know)
Biostar P4M80-M4 motherboard
SL6VV Celeron processor 2.6Ghz (Northwood)
512MB-DDR PC333 ram
ATX 250W power supply

A:CPU has been changed or CPU ratio change fail error

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your hard drive will have all the drivers on it for your old mobo and won`t work with the new mobo.

You can try doing a windows repair as per this thread HERE.

If that doesn`t work, you may have to consider a format and reinstall.

my keyboard has suddenly changed what some keys do

the many are fine, but the following changes occurred;

L = mute

right arrow = shift

this seems a very odd set of changes

It came about when I once installed some new fonts, but have since removed them. I seem to have followed all instructions correctly on how to remove it but i find im now at my wits end. Something so seemingly small is driving me batty (because the font is so thick, its hard to read, c's look like o's, i's look like l's etc).

I'd really appreciate if someone can help me. If you are confident in how to do this, i'd be happy for you to jump on team viewer and take over my PC because my patience is officially over.

Hi guys, so I have a little problem, I've downloaded FileTypesMan because I wanted to change the .exe files appearance on my computer.

I did this using this program - all .exe file icons changed, however, with them changed ALL the shortcuts to all the programs that I have on my laptop - now they all look the same.

I can't figure out how to change it all back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

this is very confusing to me ive never seen it so i found a way back onto the internet by using a shortcut i had.

not even sure how to start this. i dont know exactly what i did but everything was changed. i was going to try to watch a movie thats on my laptop, it said 'avi' and when i clicked on it nothing happened. i dragged it into itunes to see if it would play there, nope. i right-clicked it, picked 'open with' VLC, still nothing. right clicked it again and chose windows media center, nothing happened. i tried transfering the folder with the option available in media center, still didnt play.

when i closed media center i saw all my desktop stuff was changed to open with media center, i knew immediatly i screwed up pretty bad somewhere. i right clicked internet explorer and changed it to open with internet explorer, it then changed everything to open with internet explorer. when i clicked on internet explorer it didnt open, but it did open the download bar as if i downloaded it. it says "Internet Explorer.Ink" or .lnk. when i click open, the window comes up but closes right away.

can someone help me by telling me how to get everything back to normal?

A:[SOLVED] changed one thing to open with a different application and it changed everyt

It sounds like what you've done is associate a .lnk file (shortcut type) with an application and now all shortcuts will run with that application. The avi file you were referring too may be just that as well: a shortcut.

This has also been known to be caused by a malware infection, in which case if you suspect it, you'll have to report it to our security team in the appropriate Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help subforum.

This may help with the situation.

Hi all-
Apologies in advance as I am not exactly technologically sound.
I tried plugging in my digital camera today, and though it did not come up, I hunted down the Removable Disk (E) drive, which I figured would open it. It told me that I had to choose a program to open it with, so I chose some kind of picture viewer. Then all the icons on my desktop turned into said picture viewer, and I cannot open anything but that program from the desktop. Also, when I go into Programs and try to open them, they don't work there either. Help!
I am using Windows 7. I have tried System Restore but it told me that it could not complete it and gave me some kind of error message with 0x80070005. It recommended that I turn off my protection or whatever to complete it, but I have Norton 360 and no idea how to turn it off!
Any help is greatly appreciated- we just bought this computer in November and now my husband is ticked off!

A:Solved: accidentally changed removable disk, now changed every program?

Welcome Tuckersmom !
When I connect my camera to either of our computers, the camera itself indicates on the viewer how to handle the pictures....
To replace the icons on the desk top, right click any empty place and select refresh, I think this should restore them for you.
My daughter uses Norton 360 and we have found that it disables the system restore. She does regular backups with Norton 360. If you have done that, you should be able to restore from one of those backups.
Let us know how it goes.

I swapped out Asus motherboards for a newer model.. now i get a bluescreen (flashes and reboots, i'm sure its a boot issue error)..

I tried the Vista x64 CD repair option but no luck..

Am i right in thinking there is no way around this?

We have computers that haven?t been updated in years? So the KB 3125574 is the perfect thing for us.

OS: Windows 7 SP1 x86 English
Patch level is somewhere around March 2013 +IE11
If Windows Update is ran, it as around 190 necessary updates to do.

I did install the pre-req KB first with success.

Then I tried to install KB3125574. It ran for quite a while as computer performance is pretty poor.

After the restart, I see that it failed to change the installed state. Status: 0x80070020. In the event viewer.

I run PC Shield resident, and every couple of days I run Malwarebytes and SUPERantispyware, and they all come up clean as well. I did load SpyBot back on a couple of days ago, could that have done the modification? I've also been using Chrome vs IE or Firefox. I copy e-mail into a Word document, write an answer and copy it back into the mail. The mail-and-answer document is saved locally (a strategy that keeps my mailbox always empty). But when I open the document later on, just to look at it, when closing it asks if I want to save the changes, even though I made no change. If I write first into a new Word document, this doesn’t happen, so maybe some flag is set when I first copy the mail into Word. Any idea where this is located and how to unset it? (using win7 x64)

I used a program called "Types" to change a few file icons in windows. I did the same thing on a laptop but used a different program so I didn't get this problem. After I changed the default icon for .exe every exe program changed to the default icon I had selected. Not just the programs I already had on the computer but it uses the default icon for new programs downloaded and even ones viewed on disc. And it changed all shortcuts to the default icon.

I've been able to restore most of the shortcuts through the properties menu. Interesting thing is I have to do it twice on every icon since the first attempt seems to do nothing (and refreshing the desktop doesn't work).

I've downloaded additional icon programs that have a restore setting but that hasn't worked. I've tried a registry fix but that doesn't work. Neither has using the windows restore point. I've gone into the registry itself and changed around the default icon for the exe. Sure it'll change the icon but no exe programs with their own icons will return to their original state. My last attempt has been to delete the icon cache and that has also failed.

So now that google has let me down I'm hoping someone here can help me. A big thank you in advance cause this is really annoying.

I turned onto my computer today and when it got into the Windows Vista password login screen, I put the PW in and I got an error that said "Windows has been changed" and there was something wrong with my activation and it wouldn't let me login. It gave me an option to "Learn More" and when I did it opened up my browser to a Windows validation page.

This was a computer I bought new 2 years ago that came pre-installed with Vista and I never had this problem once for 2 years. I didn't download Windows illegally or anything. Nothing happened at the validation page, it just kept loading. So I reboot, and everything worked fine. Any idea what that was about?

After moving into my new house about two weeks ago, my computer spontaneously stopped working somewhere between the day before the move and the a day after. I'm more of a web apps programmer, and have never encountered this problem before--I'm at a lost.

When I try a reboot, the orange light usually comes on steadily and the screen stays blank. Other times, the green light goes on and I'm able to access the "Welcome" screen, and perhaps log into my account, but in about a span of 5 minutes it powers down abruptly and when I attempt to reboot, I cannot even get the power light to work (monitor works fine). Yet other times, an error prompt pops up.

Additionally, when I can get access to my user account, I cannot do anything; when I plug in a USB device the computer doesn't detect it, when I try to write onto a blank CD, it cannot detect a CD in the CD drive.

Here is the error message that comes up when it does boot.

First replace cmos battery. May or may not be problem, but it could
be batteries are cheap. Make sure to unplug pc when you do this and
ground yourself. You will have to make bios setting adjustments when
you do this, make sure to do that, set bios for your hardware. I find
that default settings or optimized settings dont always work. But you
can use auto for ram timing, auto for drive detection, what will usually
snag you is a raid setting make sure to diable if not using a raid setup.
Double check all connections inside of case, power, video card,
hdds etc. Good luck. Make sure hsf on cpu is not loose, may be a
good idea to pull the hsf clean and re grease the hsf with some artic

On Compaq pc bought and using in US, I installed some Chinese translation and Chinese input hardware for my wife to exercise her Chinese education. According to instructions, installed and also added character sets and uni-code sets. Now some programs (like AOL), say that since English is not the default language in the PC, AOL may not display right.
How do I make sure my DEFAULT installed language is English?

I have been using my current system with Windows Vista now for a couple of years. I have always run it with a 22 inch widescreen monitor and have never had a problem.

I watch a lot of TV through my computer and when I switched on the other day I noticed that everything looked a little squashed.

TV programmes that once filled the screen top to bottom and left to right, now have a big black band top and bottom. They appear squashed.
It doesn't just affect the TV either. Any site I go on on the internet also appears squashed. All photos are squashed.

I have tried adjusting the screen settings with no luck. I just can't seem to find the reason for the sudden change.

Any ideas?

A:Sudden screen ratio change

Ok by "squashed" you really mean the screen changed to a lower resolution.

So to first be clear on the problem you went to "display settings" and you changed the monitor resolution, clicked apply and nothing happened? Or it won't let you change the resolution at all?

A:An error has occurred. Not all the features were successfully changed

Disable Microsoft .net Framework 3.5.1 would make most your app that depends on it useless..

if you are using "Turn Windows features on or off" then it will not be uninstalled completely but only be disabled..

You would need to use .NET Framework Cleanup Tool

I recently put together a computer with an ABIT IS7 motherboard, a 2.8 p4 processor, ati radeon 9600 video card and im having a little(actually big) boot problem.

First of all let me say this, my keyboard slot seems to have somehow gotten wrecked in installation of the motherboard because if I install a non-usb keyboard it says no keyboard detected. Second with a wireless usb keyboard I posess, it recognizes a keyboard is installed but I still can't get to the bios or press f1 to continue.

That being said, I changed my cpu from a 2.8 to a 3.0 and back to a 2.8 again. I changed back to a 2.8 to try to get the message away that says cpu has been changed or unworkable press f1 to continue. Only problem is that message is still there but as i've explained already I can't press f1 or go into the bios to put the settings on user defined. If I could just get past this part my computer would work perfectly(I believe) so can someone please tell me if there is a way I can fix this? I tried putting my bios into another IS7 motherboard but the cpu settings didn't seem to be held in the bios chip that I switched so now im totally clueless as to how I can fix this.

Please Help in any way possible.

Whew! It sounds like you're having hardware problems that are beyond the scope of this forum. Practically anything could be happening. You'll probably have to have a technician examine it in person.

Hi, I have a friend who changed his windows c drive path to g with partition magic and now he cant boot into windows for obvious reasons. He is running xp proff with service pack 3. Can anyone point me into the right direction with this? Can i put the hard drive into another computer and fix it like that? I know I am capable of this fix if someone could just point me into the right direction. Thanks in advance for any ones replys or directions.

A:Changed Drive letter of C to G NTDLR Error Now

It may be fixed by connecting to another computer, then using the same program to revert what he did, and then reconnecting to the original PC. I am not sure if this would work, if not, then you'd just have to backup any data on the drive with the another computer, format, reinstall Windows, restore whatever was on the drive and move along.

My computer was working fine up until i opened it up to clean out some dust. Maybe i bumped it just a little but now after i open it up i get this error telling me

"CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU."

every time i reset

I'm given the choice to press F1 to continue to the desktop or press DEL to enter setup.

That's not all when i continue to the desktop it's alot slower and i can hear weird noises like a click sound whenever the computer tries to load something like opening up a folder.

What should i do? My guess something is loose?

You can
try to repair .NET framework like below:

Or you can upgrade to .Net framework 4.0 for test:
1. Download
.NET Framework 4.0 Standalone installer
You can try some download manager software to help downloading.
2. Use Cleanup tool
to clear the failed installation of .NET Framework 4.0
3. Run the installer to install .NET 4.0 with Administrator Privilege
Note: Right-click the installer >> "Run as Administrator"

Hope that helps.

A couple of days ago, my IT-illiterate husband was curious and clicked new user, then shut down the system. He did not realize the result of his action until I was locked out and questioned his latest activities, last night - his usage is limited to Freecell (game). Being unable to identify a way to access the system, our computer is useless. Can somebody tell me how HP lets users back in? If not, I will lose everything and be forced to purchase a new system. Thank you!

Hi, You could try the following. Shut down the PC.  Tap away at f8 as you start the PC to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  When this has loaded, from the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore.  Pick a restore point at least 24 hours before the issue occurred and then proceed with the restore process.  When complete, Windows will reboot as normal. Regards, DP-K

Hi there, ok this is my problem. I had a problem with getting in to safe mode I needed to delete some files that I didn't need any longer for a program I don't use.
SO I went online and found this artical It was perfect for the problem I was having (So I thought).
I was following the instuctions untill i got to the section titled Restore base registry hive files from original installation It said NOT to overwrite any files or folder, but I didn't read that correctly so when it prompted me to replace files I said yes.
That's when the problems began. Didn't realize until I when to restart out of commad prompt mode that it looked funny like it was in safe mode but it wasn't then when I tried to log in as Admin there was a pop up that said Error Code 0x80004005 Window Product Activation.. So I restarted in safe mode to see if that would help, it actually got to safe mode this time, but I couldn't back up any of my files, it said I didn't have permission. .
I went back to see if I had followed the steps correctly for the most part I had, but the system.bak was a different size from the first time I checked it.
Honestly I don't know what to do now, at the least I want to beable to Backup my files, if anyone can help, I will be extreamly greatful.

Thanks Eve3030

A:Motherboard Changed - Blue Screen Error

Greetings luvthesnapper,

A couple of things come to mind here...

1. This might be a stupid question, but did you use thermal paste on the cpu/heatsink fan?
So many times people forget to do this.

2. Do you hear any 'beeps' with this issue? If so, please describe them to us; such as, how many and for how long.

3. Have you checked to ensure that all connections to the motherboard are in correctly and secured?

4. How long after you power up the computer does the blue screen appear?

5. Can you get into the BIOS, or are you able to get into safe mode?

6. Double check that the RAM stick/s is/are seated correctly.
Sometimes cleaning the gold pins on the RAM can help. Clean them with an eraser, and wipe them with a lint-free cloth.

Have a look at these suggestions, and post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

I had my old computer hooked up to a 22" LCD but when I got a new computer I hooked it (the old computer) up to a 17" LCD. On startup, I get the windows splash screen, then everything goes blank and I get the Input Signal Out of Range message.

I was able to get into safe mode where I set the screen resolution back to the lowest setting. I rebooted and had the same message. Now I have tried a number of times and can't even get back into safe mode. I start tapping F8 when the splash screen shows up - is that too soon?

Please advise on how to get back into safe mode and then what do I do differently once I get there. Thanks!

In opening chrome today I've had errors in which my internet icon flickers on and off. It is connected to the internet but it's slower than usual and sometimes it just disconnects and reconnects on its own.

The disk cleanup has done the best results but my internet still shows the "DNS Network changed" error at times. It used to disconnect so badly that it would say I had no internet connection at all. I'm not sure if its malware or a virus or if my USB internet adapter is finally giving itself out and I have to buy a new one. But if it isn't a virus and it's just my usb adapter then let me know.

Edit: As of today, August 9th, my internet has returned (but slow) but my startup is still laggy. I also forgot to mention that my internet connection was working fine on my father's and brother's laptop, and I was the only one with connectivity issues, which is why I was unsure what was causing the problem.

A:Floppy disk error (40), CMOS has changed and there's a change in time, etc

Are you certain it is not just a failure of the floppy drive media... that stuff goes old and brittle, and will not hold data, or read right.
But you likely have a hard drive failing... five years on one drive is a very long time. The symptoms you describe could be exactly that.

I've got a template in my Word documents that I reuse often and today when I was entering new information there were several error notices (that little gray box) "Microsoft noticed an error and must close" and even though I re- opened and I saved it - now when I open the document the font is completely different (HUGE) and it won't allow me to change it. Before I create a new document and copy and paste it correcting the size difference to the new one is their way to bring the document back to the way it was before?

Sorry - it seems that the error that was caused by Microsoft closing only affected the document when I accessed it through "start". When I opened My Documents - it opened the correct version. Sorry I didn't check that before posting!

I'm using a Seagate 200gb drive attached through SATA for backing up files and a number of installed apps(not containing any OS). The drive is a number of years old and I have never had any problems with it until now.

All of a sudden(after no significant changes to the drive or setup) a few days ago I started getting this error popping up from the start menu.

Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all data for the file D:/$mtf

D:/$mtf is displayed at first and if anything is attempted to be accessed afterwards it shows that file instead. I have looked all around the net for a solution but this seems to be slightly different.

Different because whenever I restart I do not normally get the error on startup and can access the drive fine for quite a while. I can sometimes go hours without getting the error. It seems to happen randomly, copying files to the drive or deleting files seems to have nothing to do with the timing of the error(tho I have gotten the error directly on startup, restarting once more fixes it). My Via RAID Tool will also say the drive is disconnected each time. Now after restarting a number of times since the problem started I have realized that if I leave the computer on for anywhere from 20min to 2 hours after getting the error I will get another message from the Via RAID Tool saying the drive was plugged back in and I have no problem accessing it again.

I find it strange that if this is a real problem with the hardware, pins or a... Read more

It concerned me and thus I did a system restore. After doing the system restore, it hasn't changed, and in addition I got the following message:

I later found that the message was related to my sound card so I downloaded it's drivers from Creative's site and it seems to be ok.
However, the icons are still "weird", and I also noticed that the Recycle Bin is different:

Any ideas?

Hi Omer..

I have a problem with my laptop. My first evidence was that the wallpaper changed to a message about a Virus Alert. I have been a computer user and hobby programmer since the Apple II days so I recognized this right away as a problem. I soon realized that I had shortcuts on my desktop for Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector, and Spyware & Malware Protection also. I recognized these from a friend's description from a problem he had a year ago. I then noticed that where my traybar clock should indicate AM or PM the text VIRUS ALERT! was present. I didn't realize that text could even BE changed. I also started getting fake dialog boxes popping up warning me of a virus threat and wanting me to install the recommended software to fix it. I knew better than that so I closed those using Alt-F4 as much as I could. I also had Internet Explorer windows popping up and trying to load pages from a risking looking URL. I turned off my wireless adapter's antenna so I wouldn't be on the internet. Apparently the virus had started working on broadcasting before I noticed this because a little later my ISP called to let me know I had a virus and that he had shutdown my connection temporarily. I told him I knew and that I had disconnected the offending machine from the internet already. He wished me luck and told me he would turn my connection back on so I could use another computer to troubleshoot the problem. I downloaded AVG 8.0 and ran it twice. The first ... Read more

A few weeks ago, after performing a cleaning of my hard drive, I went to open my Yahoo mail, and I got the message "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close". It worked 2 minutes earlier!! My MSN browser and everything else works, but not IE. I have run 3 or 4 spyware sweepers and 2 or 3 virus checkers. Nothing works. I even went on Microsoft's help site; nothing. The menu box refers to msrating.dll. Any help???????

A:Got IE error message all of a sudden.

What exactly did you remove from the hard drive during your clean up?

Have you tried system file checker?:

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow -> ok

You will need your XP installation disc for that though :-)

[SOLVED] Changed EXE Icon Now All EXE's are changed to default Icon

I used a program to change the default icon on programs and I made a mistake when i changed the default icon for all the .exe not knowing that all the icons on my desktop would look the same now since they are all .exe.

I can't do a system restore and i need them to go back to default
I am running Win 7 64x Pro

Thanks for your help

A:Changed EXE Icon Now All EXE's are changed to default Icon

It's much safer to change application shortcut icons on a "one at a time" basis, using the built-in Properties > Change Icon feature which most shortcuts have. Using software to do it is unecessary and also (as you've discovered) risky.

Doesn't the software have a way to restore defaults?
If it doesn't, you'll have to restore each one manually by right-clicking one, choosing "Properties", then clicking "Change icon". Click "Browse", navigate to that shorcut's parent application in C:\Program Files, find the main executable and select that.

I am running Windows XP on an Nspire laptop purchased just a few months back. I installed Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyblaster, Zone Alarm, and Windows Defender in addition to the Verizon Security Suite that was currently running in order to find and delete some adware viruses. Spybot was successful and everything was restored to normal for a couple of days until I restarted and got a blue screen error "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and stating that I should disable BIOS memory options. I assumed that I had too many virus scanning programs and firewalls installed so I was able to boot into safe mode as administrator and deleted all of the before mentioned programs except for Windows Defender and Verizon Security Suite which I planned to keep. At restart I received the same blue screen message so I went to the BIOS setup menu to check the memory options and my BIOS menu has extremely limited settings options (Phoenix Trusted Core) which frustrated me and I (stupidly) reset the default settings. Now I was unable to get past the black screen telling me that Windows failed to start normally. So I went to the XP recovery CD and tried recovery and now all I get is a blue screen saying hard drive not found.
This laptop was purchased "Vista ready" but with XP Pro installed by my request. Could the problem possibly be that XP setup is not recognizing the hard drive because I reset the settings to default and now the hard drive is recognizable by Vista but n... Read more

First, I should apologize because I don't have the exact wording of the error message, and until it happens again I won't be able to, but perhaps I can come close enough. This has happened twice so far. It occurs so suddenly that I'm not sure what I was doing the first time, but the second time I wasn't doing anything besides deleting a couple of normal files and using Windows Explorer.

The message says that a problem was detected and that to prevent damage to my computer Windows had to be shut down immediately. It goes on to say that if this is the first time I've seen this screen I should just restart my computer. Otherwise I should check to see that I have sufficient disk space and if a driver is identified in the STOP message that I should disable the driver and see if the manufacturer has any updates for it. I wrote down the stop message, because it had numbers and I thought they might be useful. They are: 0x0000008E (0xCOOOOOO5, 0xBF954EF3, 0xF7823C00, 0x00000000). I can't remember the rest of the message. Once this screen appears, everything becomes completely non-responsive and all I can do is shut down my computer and boot it up again. Both times it has behaved normally for a while afterwards, but since it has now done it twice and I run the risk of losing any work I don't have saved when it happens, I decided to post on here.

EDIT: The only driver that I recently installed (that I can recall) is one for a Playstation 2 to USB ... Read more

I am unable to change any windows features whatsoever! Every time I try, I get the following error message, "an error occurred not all features were successfully changed" It tells me to restart my computer. After restart, I find out that nothing has been changed at all! Games are still checked, Internet Explorer 11 is still unchecked, Indexing service is still unchecked, and Windows Gadget Platform is still checked. when I unchecked those that I mentioned where checked and vice versa. I Googled the problem but only outdated Windows Vista results showed up in Google. There is nothing regarding this problem in Windows 7. This does this error message every time I try to change anything. sfc /scannow says "no integrity violations found" so that is not the problem.

Any ideas on what the problem may be and how do I fix this?

I'm pretty new at posting so I'm not sure of the best way to do this. When I start to log on to the net, whether using IE or Firefox an error message having to do with "Google" occurs immediately. (I usually use my Google bar to go directly to the site I want.) I've taken a print screen so that you can see that message directly but don't know how I should get it to you. (I'm used to emailing such things --) As I proceed I get another message which I have also copied. This one starts with the words "Assertion Failed." If I continue I usually get a "script error" message, a copy of which I do not have at this time. If I tell the message that I will proceed with going to my chosen web site, the last several times the site has come up in multiplicity, most recently it appeared 16 times, one right after another, totally out of my control, (causing I believe Foxfire to crash), and then just a bit ago, using IE, the site I logged on to came up 7 times. I really have no idea what to do about this so I'm hoping that you can help me once again.

WOW, has this problem been driving me buggers all day. I've been attempting to download various software programs, including "Registry Mechanic" (yes... ironic isn't it) and keep getting the following error message:

Phooey, what a headache!! Lots of Goole searching, and what few hits I turn up seem to be virtually useless. Most hits seem to indicate a problem with Bitdefender. I do not have Bitdefenderalthough I did use their on-line scanning process just last week. Embarassed to concede I wasn't sure how to proceed at that point to even delete or somehow negate the "bdss.exe" problem IF that even has anything to do with it.

This error is related to installed antivirus, antispyware, or behavior Guard type software on a machine. I was able to get rid of the message and complete installation on a friend's machine by "suspending" PC Tools' "Threatfire." Norton is another one that will do the same thing, however, on selective machines.

After done installing, you may re-enable the program and the installed application will work fine.

None of the other solutions that were suggested by other forums worked for me either. Remember, cleaning up registry will, most probably cause more harm then good. Good luck.

This message has only appeared in the last week since the latest windows updates, Security Update for Windows XP (KB958644), Update for Windows XP (KB951978) and Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929).

Also upon start-up it now runs check disk on that particular drive and all its partitions with no faults being found, a Samsung 250GB. I have run HDtune on the drive with no errors showing.

I am running XP pro with a maxtor 80gb ide drive and a Samsung 250GB sata drive both of which are partitioned into several smaller "drives". I have run this setup for a while now with no problems showing.

Can anyone help with suggestions as to why and what I can do?

I now use WD Elements but i reformatted it to use on my Backup an Restore Auto BU.
It backs up half my files then stops with this error message 0X81000014.
Which says i don't have enough E drive disk space.
Which is incorrect as i have 229 free of 298 GB on External E Drive.
Also i had this error code 0X8007005>> Denied Access which i fixed.
I tried several times same error message 0X81000014 pops up?

I have never had this problem before with Verbatim.
Any geeks know how i can fix this?.

I have a Dell, Windows XP computer that has never been connected to the internet. I started getting this error message four days ago. Other than the error message, I am not having any other problems with this computer as of yet. Can someone help me establish why I am getting these messages, if they are dangerous and how to eliminate them? Because I have never connected to the internet I am thinking the chances of a virus are very small. (hoping)

A:Error Message (0xc0000142) issch.exe failed to initialize

issch.exe is an update service relating to the InstallShield utility which keeps this software up to date.

Since you are not connected to the Internet, the software cannot update.

Click on Start, Run, type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, locate the ISUSScheduler entry and uncheck it.

I like to get on playsite and play spades. Recently the java applet will not load the game room graphic. When I check the error log this is what I get. Also I cannot use system restore anymore. A:Error message on content index. Downlevel Failed

I don't think the two problems are related. The "indexer" is probably something best turned off anyway:

Have you tried more than one Restore point, or running System Restore from Safe Mode?

If the problem persists you might want to turn it off, reboot and turn it back on again. This would have the effect of purging the cache. Once a new restore point is created, see if you can restore to it.

But first see if you can turn up any new info using the suggestions provided here:;en-us;q302796

With respect to the "java" problem, if you are not using Sun Java, you should install it. If you are, you should fully remove all components and reinstall it if you are having continuing errors, especially on more than one site.

But I don't see any relationship between the Java problem and the Windows indexer, these should be entirely unrelated.

A few days ago, my Outlook Express started sending me error messages that read, "Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install."

So I did some research, and came across three possibilities as to how to fix this problem.

#1. From Microsoft Support (who couldn't possibly have made this any more difficult and confusing, talking about a security update that has to be uninstalled which I never installed in the first place but must be an automatic update, yes?? Yikes, scary stuff for a barely computer literate old gal!), and,
#2. Fred Langa's letter, from InformationWeek, about rebuilding/refreshing/reinstalling XP, and
#3. From the Help and Support resource on Windows XP Home Edition in the Start menu.

And here's where it gets confusing for me.

#1. Microsoft Support talks about uninstalling software updates, something about "patches" which sounds dangerous to me because who knows what else can be uninstalled along with those patches ... plus, I can't find the wab file in the C drive where they say it's supposed to be located ...

#2. The Help and Support resource in my Start menu, which is a completely different set of instructions altogether than #1 and #3 and seems quite straightforward, not mentioning anything about uninstalling software updates, but simply offering instructions on the procedure to rename and replace the wab32.dll file.

So which is the right way to do this? It seems th... Read more

Hi members of Bleeping
After some recent issues at start up my machine has decided to cough up a "0xc000000e" error message. I'm sure its nothing new though.
The exact message:
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1, Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer.
2, Choose your language setting and then click "Next".
3, Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator of computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
My system specs are:

I have Windows XP Media Edition....i think this is virus related, but when i load my computer and logon onto and account an error message comes up and says Userinit.exe-application failed to initialize in 0xc0000005 it also says this on some of the other programs how do i fix this?

A:Error message-application failed to intialize 0xc0000005

if you have the original windows XP discs you may find the following might work.

1. insert the original windows install disc
2. when the computer starts up, at the very start look for any options like "press F8 for boot options" in any case we want to boot from the windows XP CD
3. after that has finished loading, run the recovery console
4. you shall most likely be asked to specify which windows installation to fix, choose the first (and most likely only) one
5. when you are in the recovery console, type: "CHKDSK /r", without the quotation marks

this shall, assuming i have given the instructions correctly, attempt to fix your windows installation without completely removing the current non working one.

let me know how it turns out, if it doesnt work i can direct you to some diagnostic tools to run.

1. After I have signed on, the only image that appears is the desktop background (Hedge stone) and NOT the Desktop Icons or Taskbar.
2. SECONDLY, AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS THE READS: Userinit.exe - Application Error. "The application failed to initialize properly 0xc000005. Click on OK to terminate the application."
3. I have attempted to fix it by: Selecting "Ctrl, Alt and then Delete." The Task Manager appears, and then I select "New Task" and then type in "Explorer" and press "OK."
4. I've even tried restarting in "Safe Mode" and even in "Safe Mode" that Error message pops up no matter what mode I select.
Is there anyway to fix this problem? If not, what are the procedures in resetting or restoring the computer to the manufacture's settings? I'm aware that if I select this option to reset/restore to the manufacture’s default settings I will lose all of my files. Please Help!

Thank you,

This is the message I receive- "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."
Booting in safe mode, Dell data safe restore, Last known good configuration, and directory services restore mode all relate back to this error message.
I have no created restore points and no system image recovery. Also my computer did NOT come with a windows 7 disk. Which is a crock in my opinion.
When I do Startup Repair, this is the only problem detected in "View diagnostic and repair details"......
Root Cause Found:Failure while setup is in progress.
System Disk=\device\harddisk0
windows directory=C:\windows
autochk run= 0
Number of root causes= 1
I have requested a windows 7 disk from Dell months ago. I received nothing (surprise!). Thinking maybe I input the info wrong, I re-submitted a request today. But I will not hold my breath. What options do I have left at this point? The cost of bringing it to a professional isn't far from the cost of replacing this laptop as it is. I will be thankful for any help or advice!

Hello and Welcome
Being that this is a Dell computer, have your tried booting into the Dell Diagnostics by hitting the F12 key when you first turn on the computer and then running a diagnostics on the hardware, especially the hard drive to make sure its not failing.  If the hard drive is failing it will have to be replaced before a repair can be done.

Hi, guys.

When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail. They're as follows:

"c:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

If I push "ignore" then this message appears:

"c:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this?

I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software because I simply couldn't install them. It's soooo frustrating. Please help!

A:Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

It's a fairly common problem with an easy fix.

Download and run the file in this post from Elvandil:

It will fix the second error -- I'm not sure about the first.

Hi, I've read many threads about this and no concrete solutions have been provided. I am currently facing the error with my only administrator account (with no password)

I shall list the methods that I have tried already.
1. I am unable to use the method provided by Microsoft in You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon? error message as I am unable to log in into the administrator account, since a password is required, yet I do not have any password.
2. I am unable to boot into safe mode using F8 for some unknown reason. Not to mention, I lost the Windows 7 disc that I have.
3. Tried to enable to built-in administrator mode following the method stated here Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable
Since I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, Options 1 and 3 are out for me. Option 4 is out for me too since I do not have the Windows 7 disc to open command prompt at boot. For option 2, upon typing "net user administrator /active:yes ", an error popped up, saying "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied"

Currently, I am out of methods. Please help me to solve this issue as my administrator account has a lot of important documents. Thanks.

A:The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message

Hello Hermit, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could use the method in the tutorial below to create a Windows 7 installation DVD/USB with. The note box at the top can help show you where to get an official ISO file to use to create it with.

Afterwards, you should be able to follow the steps in the tutorial below to hopefully fix the user profile error.
