Dell computer not recognizing HP monitor

Q: Dell computer not recognizing HP monitor

My HP computer crashed and I bought a used Dell Optiplex GX620 Pentium D 3.00GHz. I tried to connect my HP monitor (vs15c LCD), and it doesn't recognize it. Do I have to get a Dell cord in order for it to work or is it something else? Since I can't use the monitor, I have no idea if the dell computer even works, just that it powers on. (I do know my monitor is working fine.)

Any suggestions?

A: Dell computer not recognizing HP monitor

Hi Hehoward, and welcome to TSG.

1) Do the computer's diagnostic lights show a normal boot up of the motherboard?

2) When you say you know the monitor is working fine, do you mean that the same monitor and same VGA cord work OK on another computer?

3) If the answer to the first two questions is "Yes", with the monitor connected and turned on, try turning on the computer and tapping the F8 function key right away. This should display a low resolution Windows start selection. If you do get a display of the menu, then choose Safe Mode.

You should then be able to try different higher resolutions to see if one works on your display.

Hey guys,

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I recently got a Dell monitor (custom PC), and at the same time as installing it I installed a new 550W power supply and did a repair install of windows.

Everything is in order except my video card and monitor are not recognized. I tried deleting and then reinstalling my videocard drivers (ATI Rage 128 Pro), but Catalyst 5.10 told me to install a standard VGA driver for my monitor first. I tried to find a driver off of Dell's website (though I'm aware that monitors don't really *have* drivers, I'm also aware that Dell is odd), but the only one I could find doesn't have install directions for XP.

Being the bold guy that I am, I tried to figure it out myself; desktop--properties--settings--advanced---driver yields: "VgaSave Display Controller" with no options to do anything (update...?) except "stop" and changing the startup option - its currently listed as system. Other attempts to install that driver manually worked out in similar fashion.

So then I turn to microsoft but where they tell me to right click on video adapter (step #2 under "Forcing Windows to Use the Standard VGA Mode Drivers Without Having to Use Safe Mode"), I can't see it in the first place.

I can give you guys more information if you need it, I can't think of anything else that'd be pertinent. Thanks again!

There should be an .inf for the monitor, If this moniter was reconized before.
Look in Winnt,system32, spool, drivers, color and see if there is a file there that matches you monitor mod no. When it asks for the driver point it there.

Hi guys.. I just hooked up my computer to my 26" lcd television.. My goal was to have the same thing showing on my television and my 19" viewsonic computer monitor..

Now i know that sometimes windows should recognize the device, I've been on computers where the second device is shown in display and you can select which's resolution to edit and stuff.. This however was not the case.. It didnt recognize the second monitor.. So i opened up my nvidia control panel for my nvidia geforce 7950gt to check it out.. I got it working BUT.. a few problems

1) i have it perfectly adjusted to my television but i havent found any way to set 2 different resolutions.. I want my square monitor to show everything but at the same time my lcd wide screen television.. Right now my computer monitor is only showing a tiny fraction of the desktop while the tv is showing it all...

2) Sometimes the screen on the lcd television goes a little shaky and a line runs up through the middle.. kind of like before i set the proper refresh rate on my pc monitor..

Does anyone know how i can edit the settings to these devices individually, this is extremely frustrating..

Please help

A couple of days ago, my computer stopped recognizing its monitor. This happened randomly overnight. I went to bed with everything working fine and the next morning, the monitor wasn't being recognized. The computer itself seems to be working fine and boots up normally. When it boots up, the monitor turns on, the light is green for a second and then seems to go into sleep mode.

This is what I have done so far:

- cleaned the RAM and video card and made sure both were seated properly
- moved the RAM around to different slots
- changed the battery
- tried the monitor on another computer (it works just fine)
- took the video card into a computer place and had them test it on one of their computers (it apparently works fine)

I'm not sure where to go from here. I thought it was a video card problem but the computer guy says it's working properly so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I'm also not really sure what kind of information is needed for any advice. For what it's worth, I have a Dell Dimension E510 (Media Center).

Thanks in advance!

My girlfriends computer recently crashed and now will not boot up. The boot.ini file is corrupt or missing. The other day she brought it to my house so I could fix it for her but now the computer does not recognize a monitor. The computer still turns on but the monitor just stays black. I installed this video card about 2 years ago and never had a problem with it. I've tried 3 different monitors. I've tried hooking a monitor up with the VGA port, DVI port as well as with the S video with no luck. I read in the forums that the video card could have come unseated so I checked and it is securely in place. Could the video card possibly have failed? Also can I hook up the monitor to the original built in video card even though I disabled it when I installed the new one?

A:Computer not recognizing monitor

Hello bigggj,

Could you post some specs for this computer? When you say the computer recently crashed, what exactly happened?

It sounds like the motherboard has on-board graphics. To fix the issue of that being disabled, you can reset CMOS. There should be a little jumper on the motherboard that you can use to do so. Generally it should be three small pins with a small plastic piece over the two leftmost pins. You reset the CMOS by moving that plastic piece to the rightmost two pins for about 10 seconds (first make sure to turn the PC off and disconnect the power cable!), then move the piece back to the two leftmost pins.

Once you've done that the BIOS settings will be back to their defaults, which includes the onboard graphics being enabled. So then you can connect the monitor to the onboard graphics and give it a spin.

Let us know if that works or if you need more help.

Hey guys. I own an asus n80vn-x5. Core 2 duo 2.43, 9650gt, 7200rpm 320 gig hard drive running windows 7 ultimate. None of those specs really matter, but I figured I'd tell you anyway. Here's my problem.

A week ago I booted up my laptop with my monitor attached. Instead of automatically switching to the monitor, my screen was the display. I tried switching over to the monitor but the computer didn't realize it was there. I tried a different hdmi cable, no luck. Also tried hooking my monitor up to my 360, it worked. Its neither my cables nor my monitors problem.

I ran directx diagnostics, and it said that I didn't even have a video card. It wouldnt let me access the nvidia control panel. I also tried installing the latest driver, no luck. I figured I may as well try a format to see if it worked. It did, everything was swell.

That is, until I turned the computer on and off again. It went back to using my laptop screen as the monitor and the GPU wouldnt show up on any kind of screen! I then tried restarting my computer, and it then showed up on my screen and everything was well. After I turned it off again, it went back to my laptops screen. And again, and again. Turns out it's a perfect 1-1 ratio. I've tested it about 10 times now. After every reset it will work and then will fail.

Im worried that this is a hardware failure, but something makes me worry about that. When my GPU works, it works. My fps in tf2 does not suffer at all. There is absolutely no issue with th... Read more

Go to Windows Update and do a scan.

If there's an INF file for that HP monitor, download and install it.

Once Windows recognizes the correct monitor, it should be easier to make resolution setting changes.

1680 X 1050 is the native resolution for that monitor.

Here is the support site for that monitor.

My daughter has a Dell Dimensions 2350 running windows XP home edition. She has been having monitor problems. At first she thought it was the monitor because the screen wasn't showing all of the page. It was as though part of the pages she was on were hidden beyond view and the contents were larger than she remembered them being before. She lives 3 hours away so I tried to walk her through adjusting her resolution through the display properties via telephone. She was unable to move the resolution bar or change the color from 16 bit to 32 bit. (it didn't give a 32 bit option at all).

I thought maybe her monitor driver needed to be updated. She had a Dell M990 connected to it. Could not find Dell's M990 listed on their driver support page. She had another Monitor - A Dell E773c. I told her to disconnect the old one and hook up that one. The same thing occurred, screen not large enough for context and unable to change resolution or color.

I also had her check in her Device manager for both monitors when they were connected and no monitor showed at all. Not even a heading for a Monitor. It was as though there was not one installed at all. I tried to have her go through the install hardware wizard and see if it would locate one but nothing shows there either.

She has a CD that came with the computer to reload XP - but she is unable to save all of her photos and music so we want to use reinstalling XP as a last resort. Is there a certain driver, chipset? or "... Read more

My 3 year old Inspiron desktop & monitor  worked flawlessly since purchasing them  - until the other day that is . We moved into a new house on 3/31 and didn't get hooked up to the internet until a few days ago as were had to evacuate due to the 2 big quakes here in Kumamoto , Japan .  My S2204L fell off the desk when the first quake struck ( desktop did not move and I promptly  took it off the desk and put it in a safe place until our return ) , so I ordered a new one from Dell Japan as soon as we got back . I came downstairs for about 20 minutes and suddenly the music stopped .  I went upstairs and discovered a black screen / no audio . Moved the mouse and the Youtube page is there and the music begins playing where it left off . I tried listening to a talk radio podcast and the same thing happened . It's as if the monitor is going into sleep / power save mode - which it shouldn't when I am in the process of watching or listening to something - and for some strange reason the audio/video stops until moving mouse . Help! I had to ditch my old Dell Dimension computer thanks to a security breach on my hard drive that Trend Micro could not clear off. I had purchased a Gateway computer several months earlier for MAME gaming which wasn't being used, so decided to replace the Dell with the Gateway. I have a Dell E196FP flat panel monitor. The Gateway is a GT4016 Media Center Edition 2005, running Windows XP.

Ever since I connected the Dell Monitor to the Gateway computer, all internet windows are frustrating to view. Type fonts are too small, on most screens, the information does not fill up the window. It's usually all pushed over to one side (left, top, centered).

I've tried updating the driver for the monitor as well as the Display Adapters driver. That hasn't worked. I have set the screen resolution to the highest settings. That didn't work either. I can increase the type size in my browser while viewing a page, but all it does is make the type bigger and the problem of the page being pushed off to one side remains. It also doesn't save the bigger type for the next time I am in that browser.

Not sure what else to do. Any ideas????

A:Dell not recognizing HDD

You need to go into the setups that you get on the Optiplex using F2 and F12, and slowly carefully reconsider every setting...
Your can reset the entire computer, or you can reset each individual cable and device on a SATA connection.
Keep notes on what you do,..

Alternately, your placing the hard drive in another computer may hbe rendereed it undetectable, and you may need to run a Repair Install of your Dell Windows Disk... (Not the Repair Console)... I am not sure Repair Install will work on that model, unless you have Windows XP MCE or Windows XP Professional... Many Dells will not do the repair install off of Dell Windows XP Home

Hi there,
Today my computer went from completely normal to outlining everything in red and sometimes blue. I've attached a photo that I took of my monitor screen with my digital camera. I photographed a black and white youtube video shot and got the squiggly lines in color. This doesn't just happen in Explorer, it happens throughout all facets of the computer (desktop, photos on my computer, everywhere on the computer).
A friend said hers just started doing the same and that she removed the recently installed silverlight and it resolved hers. I did the same and it did nothing for me.
I am wondering what is wrong and how I can fix it.
I am going to bring the monitor to a friends and hook it up to her computer tomorrow to see if it is the monitor. I am asking this question in case it is not the monitor and I have to dig deeper.
It is a 22" Dell LCD monitor, and is 2 years old. It came in a full package of hard drive, monitor and accessories.
Any help would be appreciated!

A:Red and blue squiggly lines on my Dell computer monitor

The image is typical of a failed or corrupted video graphics driver, or a failed video grpahics card.

If you are connected to the video graphics socket on a motherboard, I would download the latest drivers from the Dell SUPPORT site, then when you know where you can find it on your computer, remove or disable the old video graphics driver and install the new download...
If that does not work, come back and tell us a lot more about the Dell model and configuration.

Hello all,

I have a dell inspiron 580 and it refuses to detect my NVidia GeForce 8400gs gpu. How can I fix this?

The bios doesn't have a disable onboard graphics option, sadly.

A:Dell inspiron 580 not recognizing gpu

First, make sure you have it correctly and fully seated on the motherboard. What I see this does not require a separate power supply connection but if it does, that is probably the problem.

Second, "clear CMOS" by (with the PC Powered Off) removing the CR2032 backup battery on the motherboard for at least 10 minutes. Reinstall the battery, observing polarity, and then power on and see if its detected.

Do you get any Beeps when you first power one, and if you do post what they are so I can cross reference it to the Dell diagnosic beep chart.

Finally, the video card may be bad.

Good day everyone!
This is my first post to the forums, as I am a recent Dell convert - Dell monitors, a tower and speakers all make up my new workstation! One thing I wanted to do to improve performance from the get go was to use a solid state drive as a boot drive as well as some storage for some intensive games (like Flight Simulator) and for work. This is the drive I chose:

I did not, however, do as the installation had recommended by connecting it to the USB port with a SATA to USB converter because I had forgotten to buy one, and decided to forego that step and just install it straight in the case, using one of the spare hookups for power for the HDDs and plugging in the SATA cable to the motherboard. The SATA cable I had no issue with, but the cord for the power supply may not be fully plugged in (I heard a click, but the cord is a little short).
I went to go clone the drive with the included Samsung Magician/Data Migration tool and all went well, it only took about 4 minutes to clone the OS (nothing else is installed yet basically). I was hoping that the changes would have turned the SSD into a hard drive/boot drive, but when I turned it back on, the OS was still booting from the old C: drive.
I went inside device manager and the SSD shows, but it's not being recogniz... Read more

Hi all, happy Holidays

I have a Dell Latitude E4300 that was given to me by my father. It was a mess with spyware and viruses so I wiped it clean, and reinstalled Vista. Now it doesn't recognize the drivers anymore. I've been experiencing this problem for approximately six months on and off.

Intermitently, when I go to attach a USB device (memory stick or ipod) I get the pop up "USB Device Not Recognized."

At this point, nothing I attach will be recognized

In the Device Manager whatever I attach is listed as an Unknown Device.
I check the Properties and get the advice "No drivers are installed for this devices"
I've tried right clicking and Updating the Driver Software but get the response:
"Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date".
I check the Properties again and still get the advice "No drivers are installed for this devices"

I've tried uninstalling the driver and restarting the PC without success.

The only thing Dell could suggest was to uninstall the Family USB Universal Host Controllers in the Device Manager and restart. This works sometimes but after a day or so the problem re occurs.

Usually I have to keep re starting until the PC finally recognizes whatever I'm trying to attach. Sometimes it starts recognizing whatever I'm attaching if i leave it for a while.

Yesterday, I restored my Inspiron 15 to it's factory settings.
Post-reset, I installed all drivers for Windows 8 directly from the Dell website except for the AMD driver which I took from the AMD website (just wanting to get the latest directly from the source, I guess). I also used that "Dell Detect" thingy to make sure I have all the latest drivers for everything.
After installing, everything worked great, but I realized that when the display turns off / when I shut down the laptop / when I close the lid, it does not turn off the computer or hibernating it or making go to sleep - it just keep running but there is no display, total darkness. Trying to press the power button / F4-F5 / any other button-pressing related solution did not work, only hard-reset.
Googling this issue, I found that it is very common, and many people with almost brand new Dell laptops, just like me, have encountered the same problem. After much research, I found some suggested solutions. In most of the solutions offered it was said that doing so would cause the system to mainly use the Intel Graphics HD card and not the AMD, meaning that for games and graphics, the AMD won't matter, which doesn't seem to be fair after paying extra exactly so I can have a dedicated card.
Either way, I started with the first which was using Windows Update. After checking the Windows Update updates list, I saw 2-graphic card related items - something called Graphics Adapter WDDM, one for the AMD car... Read more

Hi, if I`m correct you have installed the Windows update without uninstalling the Catalyst Control Centre. You should first uninstall CCC and then install the driver from Windows Update. The sleep issue is very common - if the latest drivers from AMD didn't work for you, you should try those provided by your PC manufacturer.
Note: completely uninstall Catalyst software before installing different driver.

Hello new to the forum have used tips from searches before that have been very helpful thank you.

To wits end I am stumped after installing a new SSD HD today and clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS.

The problem I am having is that in device manager under Display Adapters it list Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Also for Monitors it Lists Generic PnP Monitor.

I have downloaded and updated the latest drivers for each hardware and a I am still getting the same result.

This is frustrating since I could not image my old version of Windows 7 from a larger, slower HD to the new/faster SSD HD. Windows 7 imaging suggests that the new HD must be larger than the old HD in order to do an image restore.

I have read this is not the case however found that in no way have I been able to successfully image restore my old OS from the larger HD to the new smaller SSD HD.

In that version of the OS everything worked well. I am stumped trying nearly all of today - really more like 4 - 5 hours but am frustrated.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I tried removing the RAM sticks one by one and slotting them back in individually, but didn't work
I bench'd the board, placing on cardboard and trying again, Still nothing.

There are no beeping sounds or anything like what what-so-ever when i power it up.
Anyone have any clue what the problem might be?

I'm using HDMI to HDMI for input and after auto-updates, now nothing I can do will get it to recognize my 2nd monitor, which is this one:
Acer - 27" LED HD Everything worked perfectly, now it's like I don't even have a 2nd monitor. Drivers are updated, I tried restarting. Nothing works. Any suggestions?

Windows Vista has stopped recognizing my monitor. This happened after a normal shutdown and otherwise normal startup. The monitor, which is the only one that has ever been used with this computer (both were purchased new in Dec 2007) is an HP w17e, but it is now listed as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" in Device Manager.
I can adjust resolution, but the picture still doesn't look right - since this is a widescreen monitor, everything appears "stretched." Plus, it doesn't "remember" icon positions on the desktop.
There is no option to add Monitor in Add Hardware.
Rebooting does not help.
Unplugging the monitor from the computer and plugging it back in doesn't help.
The HP website does not offer any driver downloads for the w17e.

My Dell Inspiron 1501 (out of warranty and running XP Pro if that matters) has stopped recognizing the AC adapter. The adapter is a recent genuine Dell replacement for an older one that would no longer charge the battery, the second one I had had to replace because of the "AC adapter not recognized" error. It worked fine for a few weeks, and its green LED still goes on when plugged into the outlet, but now the icon in the system tray is the battery icon, not the AC icon, and the remaining battery time keeps decreasing. There is no error message; it just acts as if the AC adapter isn't there. The plug feels wobbly in the socket, so something is loose.

Googling around for information suggests that depending on what's wrong, it could be fixed with a bit of soldering, or the motherboard may need to be replaced (i.e., time to get a new computer). I've done minor repairs inside desktops, swapping out memory, drives, etc., but nothing that involved soldering. I'm also considering getting a spare battery and an external charger and swapping between batteries to keep it running -- it's a decent machine apart from its power problems and I'd rather not have to replace it just yet.

- How can I tell whether the socket can just be re-soldered or the motherboard really would need to be replaced for the AC adapter to be recognized again?
- If it may be relatively simple to fix, are instructions available online? Pictures or diagrams would ... Read more

I purchased a used Optiplex 7010 MT from ebay, but I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with the motherboard, specifically with one of the system memory channels.
The PC came with a single Nanya brand RAM Module 4GB (DDR3-1600) DIMM located in the slot #2 position.
I tried to upgrade the RAM using some G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM (DDR3-1600), 4GB x 4, with all slots filled.
The PC will not post or even get to the PSA Diagnostics. Instead the Power button flashes 2,3 which indicates "system board, memory or CPU failure"
So I played around a bit, and I discovered that I can put ANY of the RAM in slots 2 or 4, and the Computer will post and runs fine, but if I put any RAM in slots 1 or 3, (with or without any RAM installed in slots 2 or 4) then I get the same error code, "system board, memory or CPU failure".
This tells me that my RAM is fine, since the system WILL recognize it in slots 2 & 4.
I even tried installing the Nanya RAM module in Slot 1 and in slot 3, by itself, and the error persists.
I have even tried upgrading the BIOS Firmware. It's currently running BIOS version A20, with no solution to the problem.
The system is currently function fine with 4GB RAM sticks in slots 2 & 4, for a total of 8GB, although when I check the BIOS status, it shows that the 8GB of RAM is in "Single Channel mode"
My question is:
Is my motherboard faulty, or is there some setting I need to select before my system will recognize the RAM in Sl... Read more

Hey everybody,

So I recently aquired a Sansui SLED2453w monitor, and it ran fine for a little while, but now it's set to a resolution of 1280x1024, and is labeled as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". This resolution is OKAY, but it's the highest that Windows is allowing me to choose, without saying it's unsupported. I had it running on a above 1700 resolution when it worked. I've tried updating it's driver, "detecting" it, and a couple other methods.

I've, of course, unplugged it and reconnected to no avail.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any help is thoroughly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

According to some specs I found, it is full 1080p with two HDMI connections. How are you connecting it to your GPU? According to AMD, your card supports 1080p using a HDMI cable. The only other thing is to check in the CCC and look under "Desktop Management" and see what the refresh rate is and Desktop area under basic and HDTV and see what your options are...and manually change them.

Eventually I got it working with a VGA cable but it doesnt recognize my monitor any longer as an ASUS monitor, it just says "Generic PnP Monitor". I checked for driver updates if that had screwed things up and it did, so I rolled it back but I still have the problemI would really like to be able to use my HDMI cable because VGA lowers my resolution to 1024x768

That's strange, according to what I saw in Google the native resolution for that monitor is 1920x1080. I use a monitor with the same native resolution on Win 10 (previously Win 8.1) and it is happy to select that as default without HDMI.It might be worth trying the monitor on another computer to see how it behaves because right now I'm not sure whether it is the monitor or computer that is at fault.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I often need to connect my computer to external projectors and monitors.  Normally it works fine - the display automatically switches to extended desktop between the laptop's built-in display the external monitor or projector, but sometimes (about once a week at the moment), when I connect the projector or monitor to the HDMI port nothing happens, and the monitor doesn't show up in any of the display management software - Windows 10 Display Settings, or the Intel HD Graphics Properties or Graphics Options.  Restarting the computer doesn't help.   On four occasions I managed to fix the problem by reinstalling the Display Driver.  Part way through the installation process, the external display would simply start working again.  However, yesterday when it failed to recognize a projector, reinstalling the display driver didn't help. The problem has now happened with three different external displays:- A VGA digital projector connecting via a UGreen HDMI-VGA adaptor- A VGA display connecting via a (different) UGreen HDMI-VGA adaptor- An HDMI monitor connected via an HDMI cable (which subsequently worked) My display adaptor is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520, and the driver I kept reinstalling was 1131206.inf - sp 74635 Any ideas?  I'm starting to suspect a hardware fault with the display adaptor.  Is there any way to run a diagnostic test on it?

After checking the Windows Update updates list, I saw 2-graphic card related items - something called Graphics Adapter WDDM, one for the AM... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 (4 years old) with a CD RW drive and a CD/DVD read only drive. The CD RW drive works just fine.
I have never used the DVD drive, but now I am trying to install a new graphics software program from a DVD and the drive does not recognize it. I have gone through all the troubleshooting options, but nothing helps. The computer keeps telling me the drive is working fine.

The drive also does not recognize CDs. I tried working with the "Autoplay" adjustments but I'm not sure which type of file to pick since this isn't music or video. I tried an interesting variety, but nothing helped. When I put the DVD in, the light flickers three or four times and goes out. When I click on the drive it just says, "please insert a disk into the drive," even though the DVD is already in there. The drive is a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E. I looked for a driver update on their website but found nothing.

It seems the computer sees it as a CD drive, but shows its location as zero (0). I tried deactivating the other CD RW drive which is shown as in location (1) but that made no difference.

I am not computer illiterate but also not a computer tech expert, and relatively poor, so I want to be careful not to inactivate my entire computer (which is, of course, out of warranty) trying to fix the problem.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello All,
My laptop is not recognizing when headphones are connected. Sound will only play through the computer's speakers. How do I solve this issue. Also my laptop is running Windows 10. This issue started about a week ago and I've had the computer since December.

A:Dell Inspiron 5548 Realtek not recognizing headphones

Hello. Test by switching between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If the headphones are recognized when using the native driver then the Realtek driver is buggy.

hi all - ive got a problem with my new viewsonic vx2753mh-led monitor. its got 2x hdmi inputs and one vga.

the vga works straight off the bat, but whenever I try and plug the hdmi in it just says no input signal detected and goes black

I noticed in device manager that this was installed as 'generic non-pnp monitor' so after jumping through some hoops i managed to install the driver as 'viewsonic vx2753 SERIES'
Anyway this doesnt seem to have made a difference. still no input through the hdmi.

I have tested to cord on my samsung tv and it worked fine so it can't be a problem with the cord or the graphics card....

just some general info that might be of use:
windows 7 x64
dual monitor setup

the graphics is integrated on the intel i5 chip
my display adapters in device manager says Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
it has a dvi out, hdmi out, and vga out.

thanks for any help you can give!

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor not recognizing HDMI input signal.

I have a Viewsonic which I'm also trying to run a media PC to connected via an HDMI cable, and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It was working fine for awhile, but recently I have been receiving an error on screen saying the "HDMI to DVI cable as experienced an error" or something to that effect. Note: I am using strictly an HDMI cable, not an HDMI to DVI as the message states (can't explain why I'm getting that message). I did the same thing you did, tested the machine using the same cable on another tv, and it worked fine on the other tv. What's strange is I can connect the cable box to the tv using the identical HDMI cable and it worked fine. Tried again using the same cable from the PC to the tv, and either 1) blank screen, or 2) shrunken screen with the aforementioned error which will go blank once I open Media Center.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but it seems to me Viewsonic hasn't made a good product in terms of connecting media PC's, for some reason. Of course, my tv is out of warranty at this point. If you find an answer, keep me posted, I'll do the same.

Intel Core i5-3570K, Asus GeForce GTX 780, Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) - Current Build - cleareyes's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

Problem: ~40% of the time when I wake my computer up from Sleep mode, it will play the "USB Disconnect" sound, and then it doesn't send a signal to my primary monitor and instead only displays on my secondary monitor OR sometimes it won't recognize either monitor and both stay black. The computer is still running, just not displaying anything. I can restart my computer, and it displays correctly again. Obviously this isn't an ideal solution.

History: I started my build with a GTX 670 at the time (before I sold it to a friend), and the problem was present. I had been connecting my secondary monitor (a VGA only monitor at the time) in through the motherboard VGA port and figured this could potentially be the issue. I didn't have a VGA to DVI-I adapter at the time so I just dealt with it. A month later I picked up the Asus GTX 780 and replaced my GTX 670. The problem still persisted (I think this is important to note as it might rule out the issue being caused by the GPU). So after some time I finally got around to ordering a VGA to DVI-I adapter for my secondary monitor. Now my secondary monitor along with my primary were connected to the GPU, where before the secondary was connecting through the motherboard VGA port. The... Read more

The internet connectivity works only wirelessly.  The direct connectivity (connecting the laptor with Cisco Router using a chord) works for sometime and goes off, and WiFi takes over.
Sounds like Dell has solution to this problem.  They tried all usual commonsense ideas and also changed the motherboard, but finally gave up or left it to fate.  There is no problem with Cisco EA3500 dual band router as I have other gadgets connected.  Tried with another another laptop (also Dell), changed chord, tried different slots in the router.

Hi all.
I posted on the Windows 7 forums a short while ago: absolutely great feedback there - helped me create a Windows 7 and 10 ISO for some old computers we have.
We now have three PC's working: 1 new tower (windows 10) and two old DELL laptops, both of which where on their last legs!
One of them (this Dell Inspiron 5030N) was my daughters old one from several years ago. I was very close to sending it to recycling as it was barely responsive towards the end. However, my younger boy has started to 'play' on computers and I thought it might be a good idea to see if I could somehow make it just about usable.
To cut a long story short, I created a Windows 10 ISO and completely refreshed the machine. Suprisingly it works rather well (btw - I had to reflash the BIOS to A02 - similar to the other DELL I 'brought back to life').
The only issue is the internal wifi adapter: this runs quite slow - same with the other DELL laptop. I purchased a TP link TL WN823N and that works a treat (we use another one for the new PC tower). Yesterday I tried it in this DELL 5030 machine and again, worked a treat (from 65mps to the 144mps speeds the other machines have).
Youtube videos stall at this speed on this machine, hence me wanting to bump the speed up.
The internal wifi is named as Qualcomm.

However, since that first attempt, the laptop lost the recognition of it and it simply will not reconnect to the laptop.

We're encountering scrolling issues with Excel 2013 (and 2016).
What we mean by that is graphic distortions (blocks of black) appearing on the worksheet during the scroll action.
It happens almost exclusively on the externally attached monitor.
Even after the scrolling action is finished the blocks of blacks will persist and will obscure the data in the cells. Generally only opening the worksheet anew will correct the issue (until scrolling is once again initiated)
This is on a new Dell XPS 15 (9550) running Windows 10.The monitor is a Dell U2717D connected via the HDMI.
We've done quite a bit of troubleshooting but before describing in detail we wanted to know if anybody had seen something similar?

So my question is how do I connect these monitors to the XPS 15.  I understand the XPS has Thunderbolt and a single HDMI 1.4 port.  While HDMI 1.4 is not capable of driving 4K at 60hz, I'm also wondering what the new Dell Dock is going to bring to the game here.

It is an Analog VGA.  The manufacture date was 2014..  It was purchased closer to 2015.  There is a dark shadow on the bottom right hand corner of the screen  It is about 1 inch high.  It extends about 2-3 inches across the bottom (Where time/date is).  Looking at the shadow it has a specific and static shape almost like a graph going UP (Up hill); you know the line on the graph from x-y?  It is a  giant blob, a shadow but does have a specific shape impacting only the bottom right.  The monitor was not placed near magnets, moved, hit, dropped or struck in any manner.  It is highly unlikely it was moved without my knowledge.  It was working amazing since the day I got it.  OVERNIGHT near a windows 10 update this shadow problem happened.I unplugged it and moved it around a bit.  I noticed tapping the bottom right (where the shadow is) does make it go away for 10-30 seconds.  So touching that area in the back (not the controls) somehow fixes the problem.  I do not know if this helps but the shadow is translucent (more grey than solid black)

The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 connected to Dell U2713HM monitor over HDMI can't do 2560x1440 resolution in Windows 10

Hi JonoBloo,
The hardware on the system supports the 2560x1440. It should be a software issue. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Press the Windows key and Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.
Please let me know if this helps.

I want to switch between 2 laptops onto a DELL E178FPc Monitor (which is VGA input only).  The Laptops are a DELL E6410 -VGA out only, running Win7    and  a DELL Inspiron 5000 series machine -HDMI output, running Win10.
I have tried to achieve this using a KVM switch (the ATEN CS22U, non-powered). It claims to be Win7 compliant.
When I connect it to the E6410's VGA port and then in to the Monitor it says 'no signal detected'. Subsequent research would suggest that even if I were to somehow get a display through the KVM switch it will be lost as soon as you switch to the other laptop (!).
I have come to believe through research on the web that the E6410 Laptop will only work with a VGA monitor being directly connected to its port, or an alternative (powered) KVM Switch with so called Active-DDC (whatever that is!) may also work.
Needless to say I have exhausted my tech knowledge on this one.
Can anyone offer further advice or recommend a solution?

I'm struggling to attach the soundbar to the computer. There are two cables in the box. On the picture it shows the short cable attached to the soundbar that slots into the monitor. Is the extension cable supposed to attach to the short extension cable attached to the soundbar or is that supposed to go in a separate slot. On the diagram in the instructions it looks like both cables need to be plugged in.
This might seem like a stupid question but it isn't clear in the instructions.

A:Attaching Dell USB Soundbar (AC511) to a Dell U2515H monitor

Hi totleygirl,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
You will have to connect the USB Extension Cable to the computer USB port and the other end to the soundbar cable.

Please reply if you have any further questions.

My old dell laptop L502x is a bit quirky and caused me to buy a desktop, however, i think it is still saveable. when i have it display to an external monitor via hdmi, it works 100% with no problems. however, when i use the monitor that is physically attached to the laptop, i will get a " A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" BSOD. from what i've gathered over numerous crashes, i believe its a problem with the integrated graphics in the processor, since they are not used when outputting via hdmi. i could be wrong tho, any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.  Recently, I bought a Dell Ultrasharp monitor U2412M to attach to my laptop to have an ergonomic home office.   My knowledge of computers/hardware is pretty... rudimentary.
24"1920 x 1200Nice adjustable stand1x DVI-D port, 1x display port, 1x VGA port, 1x USB 2.0 upstream port, 4x USB downstream ports
I use my computer for writing documents, internet surfing, and rarely for watching tv.  Eventually, I will buy a lighter and newer laptop, but probably not for a year or two.
I think I bought the wrong monitor....  I was hoping to buy something to use now, that will last, and that will work with any future laptop I buy.
My monitor just arrived.  I connected it to my laptop with the VGA cable (my laptop doesn't have DPI or HDMI input).  It worked, but the picture didn't look.... very good.
It is my understanding that VGA connections are the worst quality.  Can I use an ?adapter to connect to the VGA cable to access the DVI-D port on the monitor?  Or is this the best I can get?  I'm not even sure what ?video cards are, or whether I need one of these.
I also looked up the specs on my old laptop and it says the specs of my laptop screen are
1366 x 768 pixel
So is this the limit of what an attached monitor can be?

Any input appreciated.  Thanks.

I am plugging a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on a Dell E5440 laptop and the other end of the cable, which is Display Port, into a Dell P1914S monitor.
Nothing shows on the external monitor no matter what I do or try on either the laptop or monitor?  I have tried this on a Dell E7000 series laptop also with no result on that one either?
Does the HDMI port on Dell laptops support video or do I need to utilise some other means of connecting a second monitor.  Bear in mind there is no VGA output on these laptops.
Thanks in advance

A:Dell Laptop HDMI to Dell Monitor DisplayPort?

Display port is NOT bidirectional. You can go from DISPLAY PORT OUT to HDMI IN but you CANNOT GO HDMI OUT to DIsplay port in.
I would suggest an HDMI to VGA adapter.

I am having some problems with a computer at work. I am not the main user of this computer, but need it to be working. Initial symptoms were that Adobe Audition would not play nor record audio. This user isn't the most computer literate person so when strange problems crop up we reboot and if it's good we typically ignore it. It worked after a reboot. About an hour later it happened again. It was closing time so he just shut down the computer and said it was fine for me to look at it in the morning. In the morning our outsourced IT people took a look at it and said it had 3 trojans and remnants of some viruses. I do not know which trojans or viruses they found.

Later that day the same problem happened. Adobe Audition 1.5 wouldn't play audio the play and record buttons were actually greyed out. I took a look at Adobe Audition 3.0 and it had the same problem. I went to YouTube and no audio, though it looked to be playing. I took a look at the control panel and the sound settings said "No device configured". I took a look at the Device manager and the card and on board showed up there. We were using both the onboard RealTek HD audio and a Audigy 2 ZS card. A while back (6months or more) the Audigy card was giving us problems so we bypassed it and just used the onboard.

The IT tech uninstalled the drivers and then reinstalled them. That got Audition 3.0 to work constantly. We have not had a problem with Audition 3.0 since Thursday. Still we had the problem... Read more

I purchased two 4gb sticks of ram from Komputerbay on Ebay. They were cheap (36 for both) so I admit, they might just be crap (fortunantly they have a return policy).
Before I purchased the ram, I researched my computer specs, to see if it would even allow up to 8gbs upgrade and according to, it will.
The ram arrived in the mail today and I installed it. The first time, it wasn't connected properly and made a beeping noise. I took them out and made sure they were in all the way and secured them. This time it did not beep, it started up (I could hear the fan) but it didn't do anything else. It was a lit up black screen. So I took them out and installed one of my 1gb sticks and one of the 4gb sticks. Windows booted up and when I went into My Computer, it said Memory: 5.00 GB but when I went into task manager it said that I only had 725 MB available. So its recognizing the ram, but not using it. Its the right pin number and right type so its not as though I got the wrong kind.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX laptop. This is the ram I purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

A:Computer not recognizing ram.

Check on laptop Manufactures website for any update drivers and bios updates.....

Ebay is not the best place to get Ram from....if after updating and still having problems then I would send the memory back and use a better place to get memory from. It may cost a bit more but it will work.

I have a DeLL Demension 8100 that I purchased back in 2001. I upgraded it from windows ME to XP Home. I also installed a Phillips CDR-RW a few years back as well.
The problem is that my computer just stopped recognizing the cd rom drives about a month ago. When I start up the computer, I get a message that says:
Diskette Drive 1 failure
Secondary drive 0 seek failure
Secondary drive 1 seek failure

I have gone to the system BIOS and it says the device on these two drives are unknown. I have no idea how these two are supposed to be set up?
Next, I exit out and skip system bios and start windows back up and everything comes up fine. The problem is that I cannot access the cd rom drives. There is nothing even suggesting I have a cd rom in the device manager or my computer. When the computer starts up, the lights come both cd rom drives. I have opened up the case and there are no loose wires. Last month I was so frustrated that I but in xp boot disks into the a: drive and reformatted the computer. By doing this, I lost all my data, but the drives came back. Now I am back to square one!

I have heard that using a USB memory device can cause conflict, but that is all I know about that subject.

Would appreciate any help.

Thank you all for reading my post, I just got back from the hospital, yay! Anyway the problem is that I have 3 GB of RAM in my computer, but the video card allocates (hogs) 128 MB of my RAM which is fine with me, because I need the good performance. I've been running Ubuntu Linux for a while and recently got windows xp for my computer and installed windows xp on my internal disk drive and I checked the system info and checked the RAM and it reported 2.87 GB of RAM, and I totally freaked out(cause in Linux it reported 2.872 GB of RAM and that's totally normal and I understand that) now I'm so confused as to why it says "2.87 GB of RAM" It should say "2.872 GB of RAM" but it doesn't. Is there a reason why it doesn't recognize that part of the RAM or does it recognize it but just drop the "2" in "2.872 GB of RAM"??? It's either it's missing the 2, or it seriously only recognizes 2.87 GB of RAM but im not sure what the heck is going on! Somebody please hold me, I'm seriously getting upset over this. Maybe somebody could help me with this? I'm not sure if it's a Windows thing or what.. but I'd apreciate some help with this .

Have you checked the internal cabling to it. Could just have dropped off / got snagged round something while doing an upgrade. Alternatively, check in your Device list, to see if there's anything shown up as baing unknown or disabled.

Hey, I am having a few computer problems. I know my way around my computer a bit, but this problem has me completely confused!

I turned my computer on today, and I didn't get any audio and no internet connectivity. It appears as if my display drivers are working just fine, as I loaded up and the resolution was just fine, and if I try to hop into a game, it doesn't give me any errors other then no sound drivers. I know for a fact I have sound drivers installed, but just to be safe, I tried reinstalling them. After reinstalling my mobo and sound card drivers, still no luck. I go into control panel and then "Sound and Audio Devices" and there is no device listed. Everything is grayed out, also when I go to Network Connections, there are no ports available. I also tried to plug in an external ethernet card that works on another computer, and it wouldn't even pick that up. Its also not recognizing my USB thumb drive, I had to download the drivers from my laptop and put them on my Ipod to transfer them to my desktop, but it didn't do anything. Also, I checked BIOS, and it appears to recognize my hardware. I saw HD Audio device at the least.

I am on...

Windows XP SP3
EVGA E6600
Creative SB X-Fi
4 gigs of Ram

Any help would be really appreciated...THANKS!

I recently had a cd burner (Lite-On, Nero) installed as did a friend. We have the same system and use Windows98SE. Mine works perfectly but now her computer is refusing to play her ordinary cd's and Nero won't work either.

When she puts in a cd (in the usual cd-rom drive) a message box appears which indicates it doesn't know there is cd in the drive.

I tried out Nero for her but at the stage when it should 'write' the icon is greyed out and the box with the word 'write' on it doesn't appear which seems to me to indicate it doesn't realise there is a disc in the new drive waiting to be written.

She took it back and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it but she still can't play cd's.

I will be trying Nero for her again next week but I thought before I did that, does anyone know what sort of things I could check to ascertain if her normal dc-rom drive is OK and correctly set-up. I know she didn't have it set for autoplay because she used to open the cd-player (Start/Acc/Ent etc) each time she wanted to play a cd.

She had no problems at all before the installation of the new drive for the burner.

A:computer not recognizing cd in drive

When you check out her computer, first look in the device manager to see if her driver for the CD-Write is working. In Device manager look for "DVD/CD-ROm" and click on it for the statistics.

For more info before you look at her computer, go to "Help & Info", and in the search box type "Troubleshooting Drivers".

There is also a troubleshoot button when you click on DVD/CD-ROM in device manager that can help you out.

You may first want to check for driver updates at Nero's site for the system she is running and download them to a floppy or CD. Also, look for patches at Nero's site for the version of Windows she is running! This way they will be handy when you check out the statistics in her computer's device manager.

I just purchased a new computer about 3 monthes ago---so now its old and out dated. Anyway, it has a multi card reader built in it. It has never recognized when i put a sd card in it----i don't know about the xd or stick ones b'c i don't use them. I've called toshiba and they had me reinstall vista twice, which did nothing. And the latest was sending me to install the service pack for vista again and also going to
which tells me to install the service pack.
I'm pretty frustrated, anyone have any ideas on why the drive won't recognize any cards? I imagine it is an auto start up feature that just isn't working. or maybe i just have a defective card reader.
the computer is a toshiba satellite a205-s7468
thanks for any help.

A:New computer not recognizing sd cards

Have you had any proof your SD card isn't a fake one?

One of thing you can do is to boot up another operating system, like a Linux Live CD, and get a second opinion. Slax would be a nice one to download, burn the iso as an image in a CD, boot the CD up and check if the sd card mounted in the /mnt directory.

Another method of trying is to buy or borrow a card reader and try to see if the USB connection can detect your SD card from a normal card reader.

Lastly many Bios allow the user to disable the onboard peripherals. Have you checked to see if the onboard card reader has been accidentally disabled

There is only one data stick that it recognizes but does not recognize the data stick that transfers pictures from my phone to the computer or my WD My Book External HD. When I plug either into the USB port, the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appears in the system tray but when I double click it to bring up the list of removable hardware, it only describes the connected drive as a "USB Mass Storage Device" whereas other computers would recognize it as "My Book External HD" or "Geek Squad G3 drive" for instance.

A:my computer isn't recognizing its hardware i think

I recommend you disconnect any external devices such as printers, iPods, flash memory, network, modem, etc and try again. If that helps, reconnect each device one at a time and try a boot until the problem reoccurs. It that doesn't help, open the computer case and remove all add-in cards except video, of course. Turn it on again and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, you may just have to format and reinstall Windows again. Back up your data before you do that, though.

If it does help, insert one card at a time trying a boot after each card until the problem reoccurs. The last card inserted before the trouble reoccurs is the cause.

Let us know your result.
