I am SERIOUSLY thinking of buying HP TouchSmart 610 Quad series All-In-One desktop with following (customized) specs. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ore&category=desktops&series_name=610q_series
However, I DO NOT like the graphics card 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M - looks like they are putting laptop graphics card into a desktop.
My question(s) is/are :
Can I replace this card with one of the NVIDIA GTX series graphics card ? Which one will you recommend? I want to put in a new GTX 590 or any of the following :
GeForce GTX 580
GeForce GTX 570
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
GeForce GTX 560 (new!)
GeForce GTX 550 Ti
GeForce GTX 460
Will it be a simple SWAP or I need to upgrade PSU as well.
If I need to replace PSU what will be specifications of the new PSU? I do not know what is the rating of the current PSU. Do you think, it will handle the new GTX card?

Hi, I'm thinking to replace my Dual Core CPU 6850 by a Quad Core G 9650 or an Intel 2 Quad G 670. Socket 775 LGA.
Is the Bios for these CPU's still downloadeble and where can you find it?

ATI is going to gain market share with the 5000 series cards. Nvidia can't let this happen. I assume they know this. The 300 series card have to be coming soon. I have been waiting for them since I have never used an ATI card, however I am thinking of getting a 5850. Does anyone know how long we have to wait for the 300 series cards? Thanks.

I've been looking into purchasing a new Nvidia GPU that supports DX11.
I have an EVGA motherboard, however, the GPU does not have to be from that subsidiary company. I was looking between the 460 and the 470, and couldnt decide whether or not the extra hundred bucks for the 470 would be worth it or not. I will not be using 3D vision, so count that out.
I didn't want to get the 480 since thats around 500 bucks.
What are your opinions? I will be playing games such as Crysis 2 when that comes out, Battlefield BC2, Medal of Honor, Dirt 2, Metro 2033, Mafia II, etc.
My system specs are as follows:
EVGA P55V 120-LF-E651-TR Intel chipset motherboard
Intel i7-860 Quad CPU @ 2.8ghz
OCZ Gold 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 1333mz PC3 10666 (OCZ3G1333LV4G63581470)
as of now i have the EVGA nvidia ge-force 9800 gtx GPU
and my PSU is an LSP Ultra 750w ATX.
460 is far more useful.
My son's notebook has come loose on the left hand side at the hinge. He's in college 300 miles away currently. The unit is about 2 years old and appears to be a common problem per the forums. How can this be fixed? can you buy a complete case? Could there be a missing screw? Thanks for the help!More replies
The amazing folks at Tech Spot saved my bacon many moons back, helping me fix a virus laden laptop for my sick kid. And so I turn to you with my latest computer nightmare and beg of your assistance once again!
I just bought a new HP ENVY TouchSmart 17t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) for my daughter for Christmas. It arrived yesterday and I opened it up, to start preloading her software onto it so she can have it ready to go Christmas morning.
Unfortunately, the thing just won't let me get connected to the internet via wifi!
It is using an Intel Wireless-N 7260 adapter, running Windows 8.1 (factory installed). I have tried everything I could think of - using Intel drivers instead of Microsoft ones, resetting WINSOCK, flushing the DNS, using a static IP instead of dynamic, the works. Nothing appears to be working. The device can clearly see my network - it shows up on the list of connections, and validates my security information (running standard WEP security - not the best I know but it's easier for the multitude of tech I have on my network, all of which connects fine), but it only gives me limited access and does not want to connect to the network or the internet.
My base system is running Windows 7. My router is a Netgear Rangemax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 v2.
I have not tried a hardwire connection yet, as I really need this to be a wireless device.
Help me, TechSpot Gurus....you're my only hope!
Hey Mark. I would connect to the Net by cable and allow it to get any OS updates and/or driver updates before I change any settings. While online, try to connect wirelessly to see if it finds any updates quicker.
Hello, my HP Envy has been acting up after I restored it from a restore point. The restoring process worked great and did what it was suppose to do. I installed a Bluetooth/Wireless driver supported by intel, it installed like it should have. Then it asked me to reboot, so I did, then I was prompted on a black screen with an error message of:
The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
error code: 0xc0000001
So I brought it onto myself to check other forums to see if there was a solution to this error. I tried a bunch of different things and nothing worked. So I formatted my hard drive via Command Prompt. After that was done, I tried reinstalling the operating system(Windows 8). That didn't work, it said the Operating System on my flashdrive was bad. This is false because I've used the same flashdrive for many reinstallations. So I tested it on a computer I did not care a whole lot for to make sure it still worked. Sure enough, it worked... I even tried switching out the hard drive, with another computer that has Windows 8 already installed on it. I get the error message: "Please install an operating system on your hard disk." As if there was no, hard drive attached. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have completely lost hope for this very expensive laptop. I called HP and they said all I have to do it buy a flashdrive from their store with the recover... Read more

Okay, so the issue started when I had proper original ATI drivers installed and blue screen kept on occurring. This was frustrating and in between there were line grains all over the display and it used to get heated up fast. So I did a fresh reinstallation of Windows 7 and besides installing ATI drivers and kept it as it is, so that it would run on Integrated HD Graphics. This ran pretty well for a month's casual usage. But when I started to view 1080p videos, display suddenly flashed and showed lesser line grains. And for few days, whenever I switched the thing on, it used to boot up with different colours which kept playing, like yellow, red, blue, green, white. I switched it off immediately and waited a while before I could switch it back on.So when I turned on the PC, I could hear it working from the inside, and even heard Windows loading up. Everything was working but the display unit. It did not even show the BIOS and HP messages. This has no hdmi ports, otherwise I could have checked and connected it to another display and made it to work. Please help as I've tried the hard resetting methods found online.More replies

I have an HP Pavilion DV7T-7000 Series Quad Edidion laptop, and the screen cracked. I need to replace it, but no sites have the full hd 1920 x 1080 version that I need. All they have to offer is the WXGA+ version (1600 x 900). I found this:
Would this be compatible with my model? I realize it is not for my particular model, but the connector is on the bottom left, as mine is. If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be helpful.

Hello there, I've already put a post up with Microsoft and with NVIDIDA, so I am now going to try my luck with guys. I'll try to explain what has happened so far. I have an HP Z400 Desktop PC equipped with a NVDIDA Quadro 380 FX GPU. Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 10 before the free upgrade offer was over. It has been working great, except for when I play The Sims 4. I used to play the Sims on Windows 7 with the same set up and never had an issues or bluescreens. I have tried to update the driver with the latest release. I have also rolled back. After 5-10 minutes of running the Sims, it crashes with a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys) and sometimes KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (nvlddmkm.sys).The game runs excellent until the blue screen. No stalls, weird colours, etc. I had no issue running it with Windows 7.My PC works great until I open the game. All other applications run smoothly (web, word processing).Microsoft forums suggested updating the BIOS, chipset and any other major drivers. I would like to have someone's opinion from here before I proceed. Thanks for any insight you can provide!
@Samantha24?, welcome to the forum. I have had symptoms very similar to those you are experiencing when gaming. The solution to my problems was installing all of the patches that I found for the games. Also, games place a lot of stress on the video card. The fact that you were able to play the games without any problems with Win 7 and are having problems with Win 10 is not surprising. Win 10 is a complete different operating system. It is not even close to Win 7. Remember, Win 8 and 8.1 have been released since Win 7. You should run HP and Windows Updates to assure the software and drivers are up to date.1 more replies

I have purchased two (02) Quadro FX 5500 PCIE Cards for our game project on multimonitor display.
I'm using DirectX 9 for graphic rendering purpose. I want to use these cards with DirectX9.
Actually I want to split the scene over 14 monitors. Two (02) monitors are attached with each workstation and six such workstations are interconnected (through LAN) to split the scene over 14 monitors.
It's something like :
Is it possible for my application either using directx or opengl.
I am cosidering overclocking my 2 geforce 8800 ultra's from 768mb to at least 1024mb
And i also would like to overclock my quad core 2.5 to about 2.9 - 3.0
but befroe i do, i would like to know if any has made this possible before.
Don't want to start O/Cing and something goes wrong, bearing in mind this will be my first time O/Cing.
Any help on this matter would be great.
Main purpose is to have all the settings on GTA4 on highest possible and still have memory left over to play without probs.
Specs are as follows:
Vista Ultimate x64 Build 6001 with SP1
Intel Core2Quad Q9300 2.5GHz
XFX 780i SLI DDR2
8GB Kingston Hyperx Ram
2x Nvidia GeForce 8800 Ultra 768mb (XFX/EVGA)
ThermalTake 1200w Power Supply.
Samsung 500Gb SATA HDD
Cooling - 140 mm Top fan, 120mm Rear fan, 12mm Front Fan, Artic Cooler Freezer pro 7
You can't overclock your Ultra like that. You can only overclock the frequency speeds, like the core speed and memory speed, not the amount of physical memory.
Overclocking your CPU from 2.5 to 3.0GHz should be easy. I overclocked my CPU from 2.66GHz to 3.0GHz easily with no problem.
Your graphic cards are fine for GTA4. GTA4 doesn't use SLI yet, and 1 Ultra is enough. A friend of mine is running GTA4 with a Core i7 920 and a single Ultra and he gets 65fps on max everything.
Core i7s run GTA4 amazingly, quad cores run it well, but still get some slowdowns on maximum everything.
I'm waiting on the next nVidia series of cards, (GTX 380?) as my 8800GTX is still ok for the minute.
Does anyone know when the next release is? I'm guessing around July?...
Just intrigued, because I want to make a monster PC in the summer!
The earliest news on nVidia usually shows up here:
installed this yesterday in cpu and vista x64 home premieum didnt detect it.. the odd thing was i put install cd in and it gave me this error message no xfx product found go online for the latest driver.. that didnt work i downloaded the latest driver for vista x64 and when it oipened it said it wouldnt run because that card wasn't found...i checked my device manager and it showed no display adapter like before when my radeon graphics card was in.. i had my monitor plugged in to it i had a pic albeit not crystal clear but yet windows didnt detect it.. i also went into the bios to make sure that pci express was checked.. i know it was installed properly wondering what the deal is... would really like to get a better graphics card in with cuda aceleration...
can you fill out your system specs? then we can help you a little better.
also did you try a bio's update?
hi im new to these forums and this website. i need to buy a new video card, preferably in the 8 series, but i dont kno which one to get. i would like to kno the price of some good 8 series cards and i would also like to kno if my motherboard can handle these video cards. here are my pc specs.
Dell Dimesion E521
CPU: Amd Athlon 64 3200+ (2.0 Ghz)
RAM: 2GB DDR2 (4 PC2-4200 512 MB sticks)
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 6150 LE
Monitor: Dell 15" LCD (maximum resolution 1600 x 1200) (im not planning on buying a new monitor so if this effects wat type of video card i need, let me kno)
if u need more info, let me kno and il tell u. im not really good with computers. Again i would prefer video cards in the 8 series, but if they have 7 series video cards that are better, cheaper, and my mother board can handle then let me kno. i would prefer not to go above $200.
doest MB have an PCIeX16 slot?
i've been reading through various forums online and people tend to be saying that the nvidia 9000 series is going to be coming out in nov/dec time frame, but google doesn't pull up ****. i was wanting to know where people are getting this information from cuz i want to buy an 8800gtx (mainly to max out crysis), but that would be stupid cuz crysis has been pushed back till nov and if that's when 9000 series is out, then eff that, i'll get a 9000 series then.
can anyone give me a link giving dates on nvidia 9000 series?
today i have heard that the nvidia gtx and 9 series have a cooling and temp's problem and he(the seller) told me that these cards performance are great but they have a temp problem, and the reviews or nvidia wont write this problem, and that nvidia produced this card before it's time because ati has produced the hd 4890 with it's great performance ,he told me to ask the users of these cards, and i want to buy a new gtx 295 graphic card
so guys who use nvidia gtx or 9 series,is that right?
please post your comments and thoughts about these products
and thank you
lol, I own one, no temp issues, it operates at about 55-65C with the stock cooler, make sure you download something like evga precision and you can control the fan speed yourself. I'm currently using a dangerden water block for it to keep temps down for my over clocks.
Nvidia are re-branding all the mid-range 9 series cards to a GT100 series for OEM.
More information here bit-tech.net | Nvidia quietly launches GeForce 100-series GPUs
Personally, I think it would have been better to use the GT200 chip and just bring out mid-range cards with that.
So, i am mainly wondering if the 9800 series cards coming out will work with my Abit Fatality AN9 32X motherboard. Also if anyone knows if the AN9 32X is even Vista and DX10 capable? So, based on my specs listed by my name, can i run vista and DX10 if i just get a new 9800gtx, and leave the rest the same.

Has anyone seen or read anything about the Win 7/Vista drivers for Nvidia 7 series not working properly?
I have a thread over in General where we were trying to determine the cause of a graphics glitch where once Win 7 x32 was booted the screen would glitch out to where it looked like multi-colored ladders with jumbled colors all across the screen.
After running several tests and trying different things, I'm fairly certain its a problem with the nvidia 7 series drivers themselves and win 7 x32.
Trying a clean install to x64 and the drivers for the 7 series for it to see if that changes anything.
Any confirmations or disaffirmations regarding these drivers would be appreciated.
I run a 7900 GT in my wife's desktop with Ultimate x64. No problems like you mention using the 190.38 WHQL drivers.2 more replies
I just tested an Nvidia 9300 GS card with a Intel Corei3 HD 2000 graphics system. Here is the windows experience index scores I got :
Nvidia 9300 GS :
Base Score 3.9
- Processor : 7.1
- Memory : 7.5
- Graphics : 3.9
- Gaming Graphics : 5.1
- Hard Disk : 5.9
Intel HD 2000 :
Base Score : 5.2
- Processor : 7.1
- Memory : 5.9
- Graphics : 5.2
- Gaming Graphics : 5.8
- Hard Disk : 5.9
My questions are :
When using Intel HD graphics, it reduces the score of my Ram! How is that possible? It checks the speed of the ram. Not the size (i think). Intel graphics take some of the ram space but how can that effect the speed?
From both of them, what will be the good choice?
I'm pretty sure the Wei takes into account the amount of available ram in addition to the speed which would account for the reduction in the wei.
Also upon checking passmark it would appear that the Intel HD graphics does out perform the 9300 gs although I would need which i3 processor you have to confirm
i3 G3D rating is 200+
9300 GS G3D rating 138.
out of the two I guess you should stick with the integrated graphics since it is better unless you need the extra Ram that is uses
I'm just about ready to upgrade my video card from a NVidia 6600 with 256MB Memory to a NVidia 8800GTS (BFG-OC) with 640MB Memory. But before I do that; is there any credible information about the G81 aka 8900 Series chip?
I would hate to buy a nice new 8800GTS to find out a week later that the 8900GTS is released.
Hello people of the internets,
I'm looking to add some newer parts to my PC soon, such as a new MoBo (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3), CPU (AMD FX-8350), Case (NZXT Phantom 410) and PSU (SeaSonic S12II). In addition, I'm on the fence about a new GPU. The new Kepler cards seem quite fast, but I want to know if configuring my current card (EVGA GTX 560 DS SSC) in an SLI configuration would be worth it or should I still stick with it until the later Keplers (700 series).
For further info, see my current system spec. And this PC is used for everything from word processing to gaming.

In my opinion, go for a new Kepler GPU (GTX 600 series)

I was just wondering as i would like to switch back from vista to xp and install the DX10 hack as the improvement in performance would be epic. But, heres the problem, Last time i Used xp with my 8600GT i came to find that the scaling was messed up in widescreen resolusion causing the screen to "scroll" i am here to ask, is this problem sorted? if not does anybody know a way of fixing the problem? as i realy want to play games without vista crushing my CPU and RAM
,Any help would be apreiciated,
Regards Daniel Taylor
It all started when i installed the second card. Its a Gigabyte GTX 580 1,5gbram, and the one i had in already is a EVGA GTX580 SuperClocked, also 1,5 gbram. They are suppose to be the same.
I had alot of problems with the monitor not wanting to turn on, so after switching the cards around about 5 times, it suddendly works. The EVGA card is on top, windows recognize that i am running SLI. Suddendly i get audio problems. I hear weird static comming from the speakers, i have no idea where that comes from. It starts basically a few seconds after i turn on the computer, so its before it even enters windows. I also get a red flashing light at my RAM for a few secs, then a flashing red light at the PCI-E ports, and then one further down i dont know what is for.
The weird static persists, even after i pulled the other card out, so i am only running 1. Suddendly my computers bios also reset, so it showed that the year was 2002, and windows could not update because of it. What could be causing this?
I have not hooked up SLi before. I have a 1000w powersupply, so i know it can handle but, but the wires going out of my PSU, some are threaded with some fabric and says PCI-E. Are those the ones i am supposed to use for the cards? I did that, and it changed nothing.
I know this post might seem like i am rambling, but im having so many problems with my computer that i dont even know how to explain them. I am extremly frustrated, and have just reinstalled windows. The clock was still 20... Read more
The clock was still 2002
This would be an indication that your CMOS battery needs to be changed.
Here is a chart listing the specs of all the upcoming 8000 series GPUs.
From Left to Right here are the columns:
First Column: Card Name
Second Column: Core/Memory speed
Third Column: Memory Type
Fourth Column: Memory Bus
Fifth Column: Memory Size
Sixth Column: Number of Unified Shaders
Seventh Column: Manufacturing Process (eg 80nm, 90nm)
Eighth Column: MSRP
Interesting to note that the 8600GT/8600GS are STILL on a 128-bit memory bus. And the chart is mysteriously missing the rumored 8600 Ultra, I guess it's been renamed the 8600GT, and the old 8600GT has become the 8600GS...
And despite the low number of unified shaders (only 32) the 8300GT looks like it could be a real bang for the buck card ala 7300GT. It just seems kind of neat that the core clock of the 8300GT will be faster than the current top of the line 8800GTX :stickout: And the memory speed is ungodly for a budget card.
Whoops, I guess I'd better credit the site I got this from. http://www.ocworkbench.com/2007/articles/DX10-graphics-cards/g1.htm
So what do you guys think?
I start my computer and it gets a message that says I have to install new drivers for my Nvidia
graphics card, and I have not gotten new one, but none of my games work anymore, so I go to the Nvidia website and download the driver. But when I try to install it, it says I am not runnig vista
32 bit and then it closes, but I am running vista 32!
Click on the start menu, click All Programs, then click Windows Update. Once that opens, click Check for updates on the left side. Once that finishes, click View available updates and look for your graphics card, check the box next to it, and click Install.

I recently updated my G30-175 from windows update (Running Windows XP), after which i began receiving a "Code 10" on my nVidia Go Series 7600 chipset. Since this has happened i have tried rolling back the graphics driver (When it first happened,) which when it rebooted it was running fine, and i subsequently shut down the system. When i booted up again the next day i had the same Code 10 issue.
I tried to use a system restore but to no avail. I decided to uninstall the graphics drivers, and install the ones for winXP from the Toshiba drivers, and all i got was Blue Screen of Death, after getting it to boot in safemode, i uninstalled the driver, and installed nVidia reccommended driver (Beta release 179.48 for winXP) i also tried some older nVidia drivers i found for the Go 7600 and the result remained the same "Code 10" Can not start device.
I have read a lot of blog about this for the 7, 8 and 9 Series, which generally say their are "Issues" with the drivers, and to use the windows update nVidia drivers. I tried this, and still no change.
Not having the original disks for the notebook i decided to take it upon myself, and upgrade the RAM from the 2x512mb sticks to 2x2Gb DDR3 Notebook RAM, the system booted fine and i decided to install windows 7, as from what i read, this was the best option (For the 7 series desktop cards, after finding "NO" blog about the Go 7 series) After installing win7 the chipset began to work fine, th... I've been planning to buy a new gaming PC for years, and now I'm finally ready to start buying parts.
Here is what I was planning on buying:
Tower: HAF 912
CPU: Intel i5 2500k 3000 HD graphics
MOBO: LGA 1155 Z68 USB 3.0 type motherboard (really don't know which one to get)
RAM: 2 x 4 (8GB) preferably with a heatspreader on (don't know what to get)
DVD: Standard dvd burner (don't know which one to get)
Powersupply: 80 plus bronze/gold certified and has enough wattage for SLI in the future
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM (don't have a specific one in mind)
OS: Windows 7
GPU: Now, the thing is, with the 600 series around the corner, I'm wondering if I should hold off my build and wait for it (I'm willing to wait), and just buy my tower, DVD, HDD and OS while I wait, because these don't really require any special compatability. Otherwise I was looking at a GeForce GTX 570
Then when the 600 series comes out I will figure out what MOBO, RAM, CPU, PSU etc I will need for them (although I'm sure the i5 2500k will suffice)
As you have already found ou, there will always be another "best" or another want... Get it now... Build it now, then use what you learn to design a better one, and sell this build to a friend. Don't wait... or you will wait for a new SSD... or a new Windows 8, or a new Super Duper...
This is a common problem with Sony and Nvidia where I cannot install the driver to make the graphics card work.
I installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and have tried all the suggestions I can find to install the display driver with no luck.
I have tried modifying the installation file with the mobility modder program, changing the INF file and trying the latest driver from NVIDIA all with absolutely no luck.
Any idea at all
do you try a driver sweep first? like driver sweeper? (oh the irony of that name..... haha)4 more replies
I know there will always be something bigger, better, and faster coming out on the market but when I originally built my desktop I chose a Mid-tower because I didn't want a High-tower due to the size etc... but I do dislike the mid-tower because it leaves about an inch of space for air flow from the intake fan to the output fan, due to its size. I recently got back from school so I have yet to set-up my desktop but I put in it a EVGA Nvidia 9800 GX2 graphics card which was the new and best, and this was only a year ago now.
I haven't really been following new cards and such for a while but can anyone give me a summary of what has happened since the 9800 GX2? I know some are now equipped with DDR3 but what else about them is making them the new and better series?
Would there be any advantage to upgrading to a 2 or 4 series?
Their are always advantages, 2 series pending on the exact model.Newer manufacturing techniques, power consummation, more memory, faster memory, higher memory interface (bit). 4 Series DX11, 2 DVi and 1 hdmi out multi monitor support, and the afore mentioned. It would really depend on what you mainly use your card for. Since the card you have is a pretty good one to start with. JMO Fabe4 more replies
I have looked through the web searching for solutions for my horrible graphic card driver for quite a while now. The problems with it is when I start up my PC, my screen will turn black and then function. But it will keep again and again until my computer enters BSOD . Some suggested that you turn up the amount of electricity going to your graphic card, back date it, and much more too. I tried quite a few pf them already but sadly I couldn't do it or it just doesn't work. Currently, my Nvidia's version is 126.96.36.19946. I would like a solution that's really simple but at the same time able to solve this problem. Thanks!
I'm running a GT220 in my desktop PC, its a PCIe card using the Nvidia 320.49 drivers in Windows 7 64 bit. No problems that I am aware off.

Interesting. I had heard about the 200 pin variants of memory modules present on some DDR2 and DDR3 modules but have not encountered them. There have indeed been errors in publishing specifications on the HP support website. I have never heard of Crucial making such an error. If Crucial states their module for the PC is guaranteed compatible, you should be able to take it as a fact, since their reputation as a maker of memory modules is on the line. UPdate: It is definitely an HP mistake. I just read on the support document that the memory for your motherboard has 240 pins and I know that is definitely inaccurate. I have an AMD Radeon HD 7650A Graphics card and seem to have a driver issue with windows 10. I keep getting the following error message: No AMD Graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware. I have installed a new driver (from the AMD website) - still had the same problem.I next performed a complete clean installation (uninstalled everything then reinstalled it) - still had the same problem.I have even tried a system reset - but it won't let me do that either. A friend told me that only the drivers from the HP website would work - i have looked for them but you don't seem to have the drivers for windows 10. I upgraded to windows 10 when the OS first came out and it worked fine up until this graphics card issue started about a month ago. How do i solve this problem (please explain as if you were dealing with a small child - eg. in very simple, easy to follow steps)?More replies

I wanted to know if you can help me out regarding the setup i'm trying to achieve. I have a 8600gts and 9600gt cards running windows 7 64bit i recently bought two more monitors in hopes of giving me more space but for some reason the operating system is not recognizing both video cards at the same time. I downloaded the latest drivers (260.99) and made sure SLI is disabled. My 650 corsair psu is working as both cards are powering up when i go to the device manager i only see the card that is in the primary pcie x16 slot. Below is the link to my current MOBO

Thank you for your time in advanced.
From having a quick look in the manual for your motherboard I found this,
which says to me that you have to enable SLI mode using the switch module, which should enable the second slot and allow the second card to be seen and used. Just don't use the SLI bridge, not that SLI would work anyway seeing as they are different cards.
I am looking for a PCI Express Quad video card with at least 128 - 256mb of ddr memory onboard. I have not had much luck, if anyone knows, please let me know.
Why not just use two video cards with dual outputs? These are extremely common.
O... Here's my dillema. My HP NVIDIA card (HP p/n 466762-001 rev:M03) in my HP Model: 9520f Windows 7 Ultimate machine failed. I replaced it with an ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT card (p/n 5188-8004, asus p/n C403H) that came from a spare HP Pavillion Model a6150y Vista machine I had on hand. The initial VID/Graphics card failure and susequent replacement caused much havock with Windows and some other stuff (ie, not booting/loading Windows etc...) and after much effort I was able to get everything loading & working reasonable well again. But the problem I'm still having is with the old drivers (removing them and all their remnants) and loading the new drivers for the ASUS NVIDIA card that is now in my machine. I've tried normal uninstalls as well as the GURU 3D.com DDU uninstall. I think (and it appeares) that all the old NVIDIA drvers and other software has been uninstalled because I can not find any of it in the normal locations. But I am still unable to install the NVIDIA 8500GT drivers for the ASUS card from the NVIDIA site or even the NVIDIA drivers/software updates that Windows Update has detected and suggested in Windows updates. The insalls start out fine but soon fail to complete. Evidently I (and my brother who was in my machine remotely for a good 6 hours because he is an IT/Computer tech and is ten times more knowledgable than I on this) are missing something very... Yeah you can run it. Just order the card you need, ie PCIE or AGP. I figure you need an AGP card but I ain't sure. Make sure your PSU is up to the task also.
Nvidia Corp.?s latest beta drivers include support of what can possibly the company?s next-generation graphics processing units (GPUs) made using 28nm process technology. The actual chips are projected to officially emerge next year, but Nvidia may easily be tailoring its software for the new hardware.
The latest unreleased Nvidia ForceWare 285-series drivers contain mentioning of GeForce 610M and GeForce GT 630M graphics adapters for notebooks, according to a news-story by VR-Zone web-site. It is believed that the new GPUs belong to GK100-series chips that are based on the code-named Kepler micro-architecture.
Nvidia said earlier this year that it plans to test-drive its next-generation Kepler graphics processing unit (GPU) this year and introduce the new chips commercially in 2012.
Nice, worth while upgrade for many this will be so the other hardware can take advantage and use the full power properly.
Nvidia Releases Updated Linux Drivers for the Old GeForce 8 and 9 Series
Lots of fixes have been implemented in this release
Nvidia has updated the Legacy branch of the Linux drivers and developers have fixed quite a few issues. This is a driver aimed at older hardware, so if you just got your shiny and new Titan video card, this driver will be of no use to you.
Spoiler: Nvidia 340.93 Changelog
- Fixed a bug that caused the X server to crash if an OpenGL application tried to allocate a drawable when GPU-accessible memory is exhausted.
- Fixed a bug that could cause an Xid error when terminating a video playback application using the overlay presentation queue in VDPAU.
- Updated nvidia-installer to avoid recursing too deeply into kernel source trees under /usr/lib/modules, mirroring an existing restriction on recursion under /lib/modules.
- Fixed a rare deadlock condition when running applications that use OpenGL in multiple threads on a Quadro GPU.
- Fixed a kernel memory leak that occurred when looping hardware- accelerated video decoding with VDPAU on Maxwell-based GPUs.
- Fixed a bug that caused the X server to crash if a RandR 1.4 output provided by a Sink Output provider was selected as the primary output on X.Org xserver 1.17 and higher.
- Fixed a bug that caused waiting on X Sync Fence objects in OpenGL to hang indefinitely in some cases.
- Fixed a bug that prevented OpenGL from properly recovering from hardware errors or sync object waits that had timed out.

I am planning to buy a new laptop this weekend, and I want a desktop replacement - just tired of small screens and low performance, and, unfortunately, I simply do not have a desk to put a high-end desktop. If I was to buy a desktop, it would certainly be equipped with a Core i7-860 2.8 GHz processor. While I cannot replicate such power in a notebook, I am trapped in a dilemma of choosing between four cores or a high clock speed. In a desktop, it seems to me that such dilemma does not exist, since the processors can use more power and have higher clock speeds: it would be worth more to have a 2.66 GHz or a 2.8 GHz four-core than a 3.2 GHz or a 3.33 GHz dual-core. But in laptops, it's a completely different story.
The contenders are basically the Core i7-620m and the Core i7-720QM (or the i7-740QM), and the runner-up is the Core i7-820QM (and i7-840QM), if it is really worth it.
I have done extensive research on the Internet. The sources are not many, but it led to to some conclusions.
The Core i7-720QM 1.6 GHz has 4 cores and 8 threads, but a low clock speed (1.6 GHz) that can be increased up to 1.73 GHz with all cores operating. It can go as high as 2.4 GHz with only two cores. The Core i7-620M, on the other hand, has a clock speed of 2.66 GHz, which can be increased up to 3.06 GHz with Turbo Boost using all cores.
Theoretically, the i7-720QM would be a superior processor. Intel has put a higher number to identify it (7 instead of 6... duh...). Four cores op... Read more

Hope someone can give me some advice. I have been given 2 new M900's to setup with a Matrox M1940 Quad card in each. They have come prebuilt with Windows 8. Normally if we do this in an M92p we just insert the card and then rebuild the machine. When trying this with the M900 inserting the card and booting the machine I get no display at all even if using F12 to boot for the external build disk. If I take the card out the machine works fine .Anyone got any ideas?More replies
Hi all, While trying to on my computer at night yesterday, it was in the midst of booting up when it triggered a power trip in my house instead. After that, I couldn't turn on my computer. No problem whatsoever with power source and charger cable. However, I realized that my transformer box no longer have the light on when plugged in. May I know if finding a replacement for the transformer will help with powering my computer? And would this power trip have damaged my computer (Motherboard, hard disk?) If I could just purchase a new transformer, may I know where do I get it and approximately how much would it cost? I'm a student living in Singapore. Sorry, obviously not good with technology here, but would appreciate any help I receive! Thank you.More replies

My system came with Windows 7 Professional installed; I then upgraded to Win 8 and then Win 10, and am now running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. After upgrading to Win 10, my TV tuner lost the sound. I still get a great picture, but can't get any sound with it. Is there any fix for this? I realize that my system is not supported for Windows 10 by HP, but it appears that the TV tuner was a joint collaboration between HP and AverMedia, who have told me that they can't help me but sent me back to HP for a fix for this. Secondarily, I've been trying to upgrade to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, but each time I do, when it gets to the last stages of the upgrade, when the system is rebooting itself every few minutes, I finally get a message that one of my components can't be configured, whereupon the install stops completely and returns to the last operative operating system. I sought help from Microsoft, but their tech support saw that my computer is not supported for Windows 10 by HP, so he stopped trying to assist me. The funny thing is that I have an identical computer in my office, which took the upgrade to the Windows 10 Anniversary edition without a hitch. Can any HP engineer help me with these issues? I love my Touchsmart 610-1280 qd and just hope there is a way to carry on with it so I can work and also see and hear the TV tuner etc. while I'm working with my second screen. Any and all help gratefully received.

AFAIK, there's absolutely no way to do that.

I did some research and I found this
1 PCI Express x16 module socket for MXM graphics card
2 PCI Express x1 mini card sockets
One PCI Express x16 Module (MXM) socket
MXM version: Type B
Power source = 19V
UMA or MXM Graphic card not exceeding 35W TDP
That is direct from HP. I asked today, because of your answers, HP support and I got the answer, that a Type II video card shut work as a upgrade on the inglewood motherboard. And don't worry. Bestbuy in Canada will upgrade the card in the store. But thank you anyway!

apperantly the hp touchsmart 520 was never meant for gaming of high caliber and it cannot be upgraded :S

So I have just acquired a little desktop PC that has this card in it but im not really sure about it, I have done a bit of googling but I don't understand the purpose or the price tag of this card.
I should say that I am not a gamer and have never owned any sort of performance gfx card other than basic display when a machine has no onboard gfx. The machine this card is in has a good spec i7 3770, 16gb ram, Samsung 840 pro SSD etc and was used in retail premises to drive a large screen advertisement (46-48 inch ish).
I need to remove it from the machine as it is an itx based system and this card is absolutely filling the case edge to edge and I want to add an optical drive and second storage drive if I can fit it in
If anyone knows about this card or has any info they can enlighten me with I would be very grateful.
Do I keep it/sell it, can I game with it ?
The NVIDIA Quadro K4000 is a workstation video card and is similar to a GeForce GTX 780
You can game on it but expect the performance to be a little bit slower because it only runs great on OpenGL
or you could sell it for a good deal

I have one of these and it received the Windows 10 update automatically. But given it was very slow I decided I would repalce the internal HD with a SSD. Powered the unit off and moved it to another location to work on it. However when powering up it took a very long time to get past the splash screen and then said no boot device. Looked like the HD had died so took the back off and tried to connect the HD to another PC using a USB SATA dock. The PC could not see the drive which seemed to confirm that the HD had died. Replaced the HD with a 120GB SSD, managed to get into the BIOS to make the DVD drive the first boot device and restarted. But after waiting a long time (I got into the BIOS to show diagnostics) the PC shows Iniatilizing USB Drives and then hangs for a long time. Eventualy it tries to boot as I can see the DVD drive spin a bit and that happens is a blinking cursor. I have tried Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 discs and all behave the same. I cannot get the device to boot from any device not even display a message that the boot device (in this case the SSD) is not valid. I have tried putting a bootable SD card in the drive which has worked with other PC's but it's not recognised. Before I toss it I wonder what else I could do. While it's only Core 2 Duo it has 4GB RAM and with a SSD I think it would go well and the touch screen and other accessories make a good home machine. ThanksMore replies
I have a DV7t Quad edition laptop and the WIFI card has recently been acting up and finally failed. I purchased a "for HP' Intel 7260HMW card and installed it, at to my chagrin, my laptop refused to boot. Why on earth is there a whitelist for wifi cards. Especially in a laptop this old. There have been several Bios upgrades but it would appear none allow the PC owner to improve their machine to achieve some added longevity and updated technology. Is there a version of BIOS I can install on this computer that does not contain this asinine whitelist?

Page 29 you will find the model numbers and part numbers of WiFI cards for your laptop. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448 Because of FCC regulations for LOW-POWER, NON-LICENSED TRANSMITTERS those are the only ones that can be used. https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Engineering_Technology/Documents/bulletins/oet63/oet63rev.pdf There is no official BIOS to unlock the Whitelist. Got a refubished small form factor elite that I need to upgrade the videocard so that we have HDMI output for our church projector system. Was wondering if the ASUS GeForce 210 would work with the 240 watt psu?More replies
Does anyone here actually have, or know someone who has, one of these computers?
It sounds like a good buy (WalMart), and I read the various reviews but of course I have no way of knowing if they are real/true or not.
The sealed liquid cooling, does that mean no maintenance ever?
I do not normally do a lot of internal work/replacement other than upgrading video cards and so the limited upgrades would probably not bother me very much.

Hello, and thank you for checking out my post. My apologies for writing a book, but I'm hoping to give as much detail as needed the first go round. I just received my custom-built T420s (4170-CTO) and have a couple technical questions/concerns about it. The details of my configuration are located at the bottom of this post. First off, one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card. On the T420s I chose NVIDIA NVS 4200M Optimus Graphics 1GB, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor?. I was thrilled to have more than 256 MB of dedicated graphics memory for my games. Upon receiving my laptop, though, I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the lowest score was the graphics card, which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has 64 MB of dedicated graphics memory. After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS 4200M listed as working with up-to-date drivers. When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics, so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine. My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card, and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience / Performance Information. Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over, I disa... Read more
The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-T400s-T410s-removal-of-4-in-1-SD-card-...5 more replies
My PC is reasonably mature now and after getting a few BSOD's I just thought I was getting a little unlucky every so often. However they are now increasing in frequency and I can't seem to see a recurring theme in-between them.
Here's the log file. Hope it helps. I'm happy to provide any more info required.
Thanks a lot for any help at all in advance
Please make sure to remove all pirated stuff from your system before we can start troubleshooting.

I am looking for a RAM card for an old HP 6600 series computer running Windows 95. Does anyone have any suggestions on a card.
Wow, I haven't seen an old HP Pavilion 6000 series computer in a good long time! Your going to be a little hard pressed when going to your local computer store and trying to buy a stick of RAM for this thing. Man, a 6600 running Windows 95, I haven't seen a computer run Windows 95 in eons. Well I'll try my best to snap out of my little "shock and ahhhh" thing and get back to talking about the RAM.
Again, going to your local computer store might be pointless, most likely they aren't going to have anything for you. But by happens chance I took the liberty in doing a bit of searching on-line for a supplier that still provides RAM for the old HP Pavilion 6000 series. Give the following place a look...
Arch Memory Store
Now seeing what I saw on that web site made me shake my head and think to myself that upgrading this old dinosaur of yours might not be worth it. This web site only provides 3 different memory sizes for your computer. (1) 32MB's, (2) 64MB's and last (3) 128MB's of memory! I'd hate to hear what your system currently has as far as the amount of memory it has. With a bare minimum of 64MB's of RAM your system will run really bare bones and "no thrills" with something like Windows 2000 Professional! Your going to have to pump it up a notch and maybe try for 128MB's of RAM, if you want to install and run things, a... Read more
I just got this card(X800 Pro) and when I turn on the computer it just beeps and there is a message on the screen saying the power cable isnt connected when it is. My main system PS is an Antec Neo 430w. I also tried it in my second system with an Antec 350w. Does this card need more power???
Well, I got an X800pro too, and you shouldn't have too much problem with the psu and system in your sig...
Have you tried another power connector?
Maybe you should try to disconnect the tv tuner, audigy and one of the optical drivecs...
Hi all, i was browsing nvidia dot com and found this link : http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_310_us.html.
Its not a "gaming monster" but its the first 3 series you can only get it in pre-build oem systems though. even though this is not the graphics card of the century but it is still a 3 series lets hope we see some more 3 series graphics cards soon

So, ive been debating on whether or not build a new i7 machine, and although I really, really want one ... I can't really justify the cost ATM.
Being as what I want will run me about $900 and that excludes a new GPU Im thinking maybe just upgrade the GPU now, and put the whole new platform on hold for 6months -> a year.
Anyway, I currently have a HD 4890 Vapor-X & I really want to stay with Sapphire for an ATI card. Simply because I have a few of them and they've all been fantastic.
What Im looking at:
5850 2GB Toxic ($369)
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Toxic 100282-2GTXSR Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
5850 1GB Toxic ($309)
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE TOXIC 100282TXSR Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
Theres also a Vapor-X version of this same card. Only difference is its not factory OC'd and a bit cheaper at $294)
5870 1GB Vapor-X ($394)
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100281VX-2SR Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
So, Im curious if anyone knows if the 2GB memory will help any at all over the 1GB at 1920x1080? I do like using AA and AF.
ive seen both reports, yes it helps and no it doesnt untill higher res above 1080P.
Would the 5870 be worth the extra cost over the 5850?
Im wondering if the Toxic 5850s may perform nearly as well as the 5870.

Gentlemen/Ladies: I am strongly considering the purchase of above HP Desktop. I will use the system for surfing the web and video and photo editing. I am a novice in the area of video and photo editing. I am taking up the craft as a hobby and see where it takes me. The primary components of the system will be as follows:
- Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrading to Windows 8 when available)
- Processor:3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K quad-core processor [3.5GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
- Memory: 16GB DDR3
- HD: 256GB SSD + 1 TB 7200 HD
- GPU: 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX680 [DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapter]
- Power Supply: 600 Watt
- Liquid Cooling Solution
- Monitor: Looking at Dell 27"2560x1440
The system comes equipped with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere 10
HP's Phoenix series is a favorite of some gamers. I was considering an Imac but decided against it because I wanted to stay with a PC. My question to the forum is are these components a little overkill? The price is not a barrier for me.
I guess it will depend on how much video editing you end up doing. It is absolutely overkill for surfing the web, and overkill if you only do a little photo editing. The extra cores will help with the video editing, but you will never use them surfing the web. Even if you do gaming it will not help much. Games rarely use 4 cores of a processer. If you want a system like that, you would be better off building it yourself. It really isn't as hard as most people think and you will get better quality components, and exactly what you want. And you always have the experts here in chosing components and assembling the computer.1 more replies
Hello! I went to put my desktop into sleep mode before bed last night and noticed it had turned off. No idea why. I go to turn it on and NOTHING. No lights, no sounds, no fans, nothing. The power signal light on the back is flashing green. I followed some steps from this page http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph06788#AbT4 Unplugging everything from the back and holding the power button for 10 seconds didnt do anything. Pushing for 1 second and waiting 10 seconds didn`t do anything. I took off my side panel for the next steps, but didn`t want to touch anything as I don`t want to harm anything. I`ve tried another outlet and the light keeps blinking green. I haven`t had this computer for too long, maybe a couple years or less. I take good care of it with good antiviruses and making sure to put it to sleep mode everynight, and keep it updated etc. Looks like the power to the machine is okay since the light is flashing.... is it something internal? Wondering if anyone could help? Feeling anxious. Please and thank you!
I understand that you started through the troubleshooting guide for power supplies. The step about disconnecting internal components is essential to continue the troubleshooting, however. If you are not comfortable with that, maybe get a more knowledgeable friend to help. Otherwise it is off to the repair shop.8 more replies
I have an ACER M4 Series, Veriton desktop PC, Model number M4618G-Ui5240W. The PC has an Inter Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10 GHz, 4 GB of Ram and a 32 bit Operating System . I am running Windows 10. Recently it has begun failing during normal operations. The top ¾ of the monitor will flicker with horizontal lines corrupting the video image, followed by loss of output to the monitor which goes blank. The PC then either freezes with an annoying beeping sound that continues until I perform a hard shutdown or it completely shuts itself down. Any ideas what is causing this or what I can do to correct this issue?
let's try with some basic test. windows logo key + stypemem window memory test will appear as first result, click it and run a memory test, so we can check if it's a ram issue.4 more replies
