Solved: Why are lower case letters i and l red fringed ?

Q: Solved: Why are lower case letters i and l red fringed ?

I just upgraded my 8 year old iiyama monitor for a new Dell monitor with a bigger screen with higher resolution - oh and I have got new spectacles. I had replaced the capacitors twice in the iiyama (having to keep jabbing the "On" button to get the current surge going) as I don't care for these new wide screen type monitors but I had to get updated eventually.

Anway, with my fantastic new monitor, I now notice that on both the Desktop (of Vista) and in Winodws Explorer all the letters "i" and "l" have an almost imperceptible red fringe or hue. How weird is that?

This happens whether I use the VGA or the DVI cable connection.

Amazingly, this issue was raised by wguru and Saga Lout on this forum 18 months ago but it is not clear to me whether anyone ever came up with a solution. The possibility of a virus or registry corruption error was mentioned but I did not understand whether this was ever proven.

I run about 3 virus programs most days and I woudl be devastated if I unknowingly had a virus. It is difficult but not impossible to believe. Having said that, I have occasionally tweaked the Rgeistry e.g. to get rid of "klingons".

I suspect I have had this issue a while but only with the new monitor has it become noticeable.

Any suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.

As a newbie, first poster, it seems that I am prohibited from sending a PM to wguru or Saga Lout.

The lower case L on my computer has gone berserk. It will not function correctly in Windows. When struck nothing appears. However, if the caps lock key is activated and the shift key is held down, the lower case L works. The upper case L and all other keys work fine.

This is only true in Windows. Iím running Windows Pro 2000 and in the Windows login screen, lower case Ls can be typed in both the user name and the password fields. As soon as Windows comes up, it stops working.

I have tried three different keyboards, reloaded Windows 2000 and the keyboard software but the key still fails.

I would appreciate any help.

My computer:

The keyboard is a Microsoft Internet Pro PS2 (Brand New)

A:Lower case L does not type

You say that you have tried different keyboards, and that outside of windows the lower case L works, so the only thing that I could think of (and it's a long shot), is that when Windows has loaded (and any startup programs as well), a process or program has changed the mapping of the lower case L to perform some other function.
Have you tried booting into safe mode? This should stop any non-Windows programs from loading. Give this a try and see what happens. If the L works normally, then you need to see what programs are being loaded (in normal mode), and remove them one at a time (restarting and testing each time).

hello~

I start up my computer and after the windows logo loads a message pop ups that says: lsass.exe system error- an invalid parameter was passed to a service or function. I am not sure how to fix this since I can't log into windows in either normal or safe modes. any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

A:lsass.exe (lower case L)

If it's "lsass.exe" with a lower case "L", then it is a virus in the Sasser family, most likely. You'll need to scan it with a good antivirus either by using a boot CD with an antivirus on it or take your drive out and hook it up as a secondary drive in another computer. That should get you back up and running. You may have to do a repair installation of Windows after you've scanned it.

Hi I changed all lower case of "city" to Uppercase "CITY" USING Find and Replace. But when I tried to change the same "CITY" to "city" it didn't work. However I did get the message we have made 12 replacements but not even one "CITY" was changed to "city." When I tried to replace "CITY" with another word in lowercase, it replaced the different word but in Uppercase. Please help this novice in word. Thank you.

A:How to change words in Uppercase to lower case

Hello Mike, thanks for your reply. No I am not using Excel but Ms Word 2016. I think I found the solution to my problem. Find and Replace is case sensitive. Therefore to change Uppercase words to lowercase one has to go to "more" option and check the box "Match Case." I did that and I was able to change all "CITY" to "city" using Find and Replace.I hope this may be helpful to someone. If anyone has other solutions to this problem please do post it.Your novice in MS Word

The technology is available but using it makes for sloppy composition and allows people to Post one thing and then change it, after others have replied, which might make them look stupid, which few of us admit too. Everyday I upload some files to my website and to simplify my website operations, I use the same filename and just upload a file with new information every day. The case of file extensions is of no consequence to Windows 7, but it matters to my website. I want to standardize on one case and it doesn't matter which as long it's the same all the time. I have one app, the snipping tool, which seems to generally make files using uppercase, but I have some existing files that are lower case. I have tried to get rid of the lower case extensions by deleting the file and then recreating it with the same name. When I do, Windows changes the case from upper to lower. If I simply create a brand new file with no previous instances of that file in existence (as far as I know), then the default case is upper. How does one go about converting all existing files of a particular type to a standard file extension case, be it upper or lower.

thanks,

atom

A:Change file extension upper/lower case

Not sure you can as Windows is case insensative, but have you tried doing it from a Command prompt, enclosing the filename.ext in double quotes as "filename.ext"?

If that doesn't work, maybe a two step process would.

ren "FileName.EXT" FileName.EX"
ren "FileName.EX" FileName.ext"

I have a weird problem on an XP Home system that was brought in for repair.

If I attempt to go thru safe mode, the options for safe mode, safe with networking, etc, com up - with the same upper/lower case lettering. Choose safe mode option and you get the same message as sbove.

I booted with the XP CD to attempt repair, came up with a different error message.

I am stumped! I would assume a virus, trojan, etc.
I know I can pull the hard drive and format it in another system, then go from there, but trying to avoid that if possible!

Any thoughts on what has caused this issue?

Thanks!

Hi.

When I try to change the case from upper to lower or vice versa of filenames n windows explorer, the changes are not accepted. Also, adding or deleting of spaces in existing filename words is also not being accepted. I have admin privileges.

Thank you for help.

A:Can we change the upper/lower case of filenames in Windows Explorer?

Hi Seymoria, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Filenames in Windows Explorer are not case sensitive. This means that for Windows, the filenames ThisIsMyDocument.doc, THISISMYDOCUMENT.DOC and tHiSiSmYdOcUmEnT.DoC are all the same, the file would be found and can be referred to using any of these or any other combination of upper and lower case letters, as long as the name itself stays the same.

Therefore, if you have a file document_1.doc but you'd like to change the first letter to upper case D, selecting rename and changing the first d to D does nothing. Windows simply does not understand it, for it there was no change as the first letter did not change.

You need to work around this by renaming the file first to something else, then rename it again to Document_1.doc, this time using the upper case D. I use a neat trick here, changing the first letter from lower to upper case: I select rename, delete just the first letter of the filename, the one with lower case, then rename again this time entering the upper case first letter.

I've been experiencing something VERY strange with my keyboard (M/S "Elite" split keyboard) and had assumed it was failing but today I happened to use it on a different machine and discovered that the keyboard is NOT the problem (I'm using it now connected to a notebook).

Here's what happens:

In certain apps (noticeably Outlook Express) the letter "i" seems to be problematic. When typing a word containing an "i", like "Chief", the word will often come out with the "i" and "e" transposed (no, it's NOT my typing) and, very often, after having typed all the letters of a word including an "i" - like "Michael" - the "m" will appear on the screen and then nothing else - even though I've struck all the letters - and after a split-second I'll see "Mchaeli" on the screen.

Also, after invoking All Caps, the first time I use the "i" key it's still lower case. Upon the second use, it's upper case as it should be. Then, after deactivating All Caps, the first time I hit "i" it's still upper case, even though it shouldn't be.

The upper case problem has now extended to "C" and "O", as well.

What could this be? I know it sounds strange, but I'm hoping someone out there has seen something like this.

TIA,

Jay Palmer

All my folder and file names that have the letters i and l (lower case L) display with an almost imperceptible red 'fringe' or red 'shadow'.

Desktop icon text, browser text, web page text, Word and Notepad document fonts are all normal.

Have tried re-setting Windows 7 fonts to default and yet the issue persists.

If someone has an idea (other than reinstalling the OS) to rid the red from i's and l's, like some other means of restoring what seems to be just the Windows Explorer file and folder font lettering, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it (as I posted last year here and not a single reply).

A:All i's and l's explorer text are red fringed

From time to time, a piece of malware will appear pretending to be the genuine Windows LSASS.exe by imitating the lower case L by using an upper case I - you can see from this how easy it would be to miss that and be fooled by it. What am I typing in Arial font lsass or Isass - hint - the first one is a lower case L and the other is not.

What you are seeing is a foolproof way of protecting you from making that mistake so it's better to be gerateful for it than trying to remove it.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. When I press the power button, the power button light turns amber, I hear some fans spinning, and the CD drive spinning. However, it never gets to the boot screen (or any screen). If I open the case and press the power button, however, the power button turns green and the computer works fine (loads all the way up and functions like normal). If I close the case after it has started, it continues to run fine. I'm guessing / hoping it's not the mother board or power supply that has directly gone bad... but maybe there is a connection or something? that changes from when it's closed to when it's open. I've heard of something like... the motherboard is shorting out by touching the case... but I'm not really sure where to look for that / how. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have an Acer Aspire X1700 (Details
It's about 2 1/2 years old now. Came with Windows Vista, I upgraded it to Windows 7. Also has a newer video card than what came with it.

Anyway, The PSU fan is getting really obnoxious, it gets really loud (more or less like a lawn mower). I have taken the thing apart and have tried every suggestion given to quiet it down, which it does for a whole week or two. This is a small form factor PC, so to even take the power supply out you have to basically take out everything else just to get to it. I have looked for replacements but they are very obsolete. It's only 220W anyway, so i'd like something a little more powerful.

What I want to do is get a larger case that I can use the same hardware is (motherboard, drives, etc) and purchase a larger power supply for that case. 220W really limits the PC. The small case holds a lot of heat even with all fans cleaned and working properly. Even just taking a CD/DVD out that was in it is very hot. I want a case with better airflow than this one.
I really am not sure what kind of case to get that will meet my needs. I don't want anything really fancy. If possible I'd like to get it off newegg.com

Any suggestions would be great.

My screen resolution is currently running at 1400x1050, and when I try to lower it to 800x600, the screen flashes blank (as it usually does when changing resolution), but then the screen flickers briefly and goes black for about six seconds. When the screen comes back, it's after changing back to 1400x1050.

Is there a system tool or a available utility to monitor and control the cooling fan to keep temperatures fairly low, with a new Dell XPS 8500 running Windows 7 ? So far I only watch the hard drive temperature with Active Smart, but how warm other components get is also good to know. Now it runs about up to 86* F. When I check the fan in the back of this XPS desktop, I can only just barely feel some air flow and hear the quiet sound. Also is it possible to install a cooling fan in the front of the PC case to help suck cool air in better, and I did open the case to look at that, and it may support adding a fan which now just has a fairly good air flow intake, but there needs to be a fan connector available on that motherboard as well, right ?

So, I'm not sure if this is where I should post this but...

The other day I bought a new HDD, and decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 for it. After getting it all installed and installing all the drivers and Windows updates, I decided to watch a movie. I then realized that the audio volume was (as a ballpark guess) 20-30% quieter than I was used to.

I rebooted and loaded up the old Windows install, since I still have it, and started up the movie and the volume was back to the level that I was used to.

Now I've tried a few things already, and I'll list them for you:

Reinstalled drivers; From motherboard website, from Realtek website, and even went over and backed up the drivers on my old install to reinstall on the new drive.

Checked all audio panel settings, made sure everything was turned up and set the same as my old install.

Made sure it wasn't an issue with the media player program I was using; Reinstalled it and made sure the settings were the same as my old install.

Does anyone have any more ideas on something I can try?

P.S.

I have a HP pavilion elite m9000t

i have been having troubles with performance issues because of freeware, so I uninstalled the freeware on my computer.

initially my lowest subscore was 3.4, and by removing freeware and removing some startup applications, i only was able to raise the score by a tenth of a point, to 3.5.

I have a very good graphics card, a Nvidia GeForce 8400GS

i have 2048 MB RAM, plus about 2.2 more GB virtual memory (paging file)

I have about 90 GB left on a 320 GB hard drive,.

My graphics should be doing fine because i only have a generic computer monitor, no LCD or anything.

My graphics card has an HDMI port on the back, so i assume that it should be able to handle a simple VGA monitor quite well, yet vista says the subscore of aero performanc is only 3.5.

i would think it should be at least 4.0, if not higher.

Does someone know why this is so low for the hardware I have?

Hi,

I'd like some help with a formula please. Have been working on this for hour and can't figure it out...

I need to compare the values of two cells, then multiply the lower value by 2.
For example:

............Column A.....Column B......Column C (this is what I'd like to calculate)
Row 6........50.............40...............80
Row 7........30.............30...............60
Row 8........25.............29...............50
etc...

This is what I'd like to say in the formula:
If A6 is lower than B6, then multiply A6 by 2. If B6 is lower than A6, then multiply B6 by 2. If A6 and B6 are the same, then multiply either by 2.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I just finished building my computer first time. and started it up and for some reason in the post screen it displays the speed of the ram as only 1066MHz (or something around that) when the kit i have is 1600MHz - OCZ 6GB (3x2GB) 1600MHz Gold 8-8-8-24 tested at 1.65V. It has the right amount of memory listed but not the speed.

do i have to change it manually somewhere? because i changed my memory timings and the ram voltage (from 1.5 to 1.64 -had to do 1.64 as 1.65 wasn't listed) to the correct ones in the MIT (MB intelligent tweeker), as the ones in bios were listed like 7-7-7-16. should i have kept them at theses lower speeds and lower voltage? or would they cause problems being quite low at the lower voltage?

so does anyone know what is going up with the speed listing and timings i should use.

Have you tried a different keyboard, or tried this keyboard on a different PC?
Sounds like something may have been spilled on the keyboard. If a liquid gets spilled onto a keyboard, it's can get drawn between the plastic membranes that actually make up the key switches. Even after it dries, the residue that is left behind can cause erratic behavior.

Desktop keyboards aren't that hard to take apart and clean. Just be sure to note the different screws as you take it apart, as they may not all be the same length or type.

I have Windows 7 Home installed. Under portable Devices all have yellow triangles with !. I deleted all and rebooted. Comes up the same. I go to disk management and they all show up as disk 1 disk 2 etc so I tried to assign drive letters to them. The letter take for a few seconds then disappears and a pop up come on stating a mount point has been removed. by the way this all started when I plugged in my 500 gb external drive which worked before but I could no longer see it although when I plug it in the computer blares and announces a device has been loaded but I can't find it.I can see my external drive on my disk management listed as Disk 8 but when I right click it doesn't give me a choice to add a drive letter. The disk is called unallocated.

A:Solved: No Drive Letters

Space which is shown as "Unallocated" means that no partition exists in that space.
It needs to be partitioned first, then formatted so that your PC can write data to it.
If there used to be a formatted partition there containing data, and you definitley did not delete it, the drive itself may be faulty.

If it won't partition, or it won't format, it is indeed faulty. You can check that by testing the drive with the drive manufacturer's own diagnostic software. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

Some drive manufacturer's (eg Fujitsu) don't provide any diagnostic software, in which case you can test with Seagate SeaTools from here: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

I didn't know where to post this (it was between Windows XP and Hardware) so I apologize if this is the wrong forum.

Ok so my question:

I got a usb flash drive and plugged it in for the first time today. My computer automatically named it (F and (G - it had two partitions apparently. Anyway, I also have a Buffalo external hard drive that was always (F before. I figured my computer just assigned the usb flash drive (F and (G temporarily because the external hard drive wasn't turned on. So when I did plug it in, it was named (H. However, when I disconnected both drives, and re-plugged the external hd, it was still (H. Also, I noticed that all my folder settings in the external hd were reset.

I tried uninstalling the driver for the usb flash drive and the external hd remained (H.

Is there anyway to reverse this without reformatting or otherwise damaging my files inside the external hard drive?

Thanks!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A:Solved: Drive Letters

Hi and welcome….

It can easily be done….

Right click on MY COMPUTER
Click on MANAGE
Click on DISK MANAGEMENT
Right click on the drive in question
Change drive letters and path

You can now set the drive letter back to what it was. The next time you plug in your USB device, you should be able to do the same thing for the “two drives” that it assigns. Once you do this one time, XP tends to remember the settings.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

The problem is, if I point a Shortcut to an Icon on a removable drive, the path might be wrong when I plug it into a different PC.
How can I point my shortcuts to the Icon folder on the same drive and get it to work even if the Drive letter changes.
I have 2 Folders on the USB Drive; "SHORTCUTS" & "ICONS"
I tried pointing the shortcuts to:

%SystemRoot%\ICONS\Favicon25.ico
But It Wont let do it and it says:

and if I point a shortcut to the current USB drive letter:
G:\Icons\Favicon25.ico
The next PC I plug it into might assign my USB key with a different letter like E: or H:
Does anyone know how to get around this preferably without embedding the shortcut and Icon into an "EXE". Any help would be appreciated........a lot

Here is my problem... My computer limits me on the amount of drives I can have. The highest letter it allows is up to F: Anything after that, will not show up.

But here's the catch... The computer sees and recognizes the different Drives, even if it won't show up on "My Computer."

This drove me mad. I eventually pulled all the key caps off, turned the keyboard upside down and gave it a good clean out using a low pressure air gun. You'd be surprised how much gunk builds up in the keyboard over a month. I used a light silicone spray on the white tubes that the key caps click into. It helps to take a photo before hand so you don't put the caps on in the wrong order. Hope this works for you. Failing that, and if you've had the keyboard for a few years, it could just be plain wear and tear and time for a new one. Cheers.

I'm running Windows ME, and I've got a DVD-rom and a CD-RW.

The DVD-rom has been giving me problems, such as reading the cd, yet not responding. Or reading it for awhile, and then stopping.

This is a pain in the neck, because the program that I have use, freezes up while waiting for the data on the cd. The program only reads from the first cd drive that it finds..

So, if somebody could explain how I can change the drive order, and make the CD-RW drive as D:, instead of the DVD-rom. If there is a program that I need or anything, please let me know.

Thanks!

(I apologize if this is hard to understand)

Answer Match 42%

Hi all. My XP Pro box has had this issue for a few years now so I can't remember what I was doing when it started, but here's the deal:

Windows explorer shows six extra fake local disks, drive letters T: through Y:. They all have the red question mark icon next to them, type is "Local Disk" and filesystem type is listed as "RAW". I would really like to get rid of these, preferably without uninstalling software which isn't to blame in the first place.

I have a feeling these were created by some ISO mounting software which I tried at one point (went though quite a few of them before I settled on one).

Device manager doesn't show anything extra, even with 'Show hidden devices' enabled. There is a SCSIVAX controller listed there which I understand is probably Alcohol 120% and that I definitely want to keep. He lives on virtual drive F: anyway so that's not it. I have other similar software installed too but have had virtual drive support disabled in all the others.

I do not have any mapped network drives. Or so Explorer tells me.

I there any way to tell which driver is causing these non-functioning drive letters to appear? And again, I'd rather not go blindly uninstalling things. Besides, if the offending software was still on the machine I would think the virtual drives would be functional.

Thanks in advance!

I have just reformatted my computer and restored everything to its pre-reformat state. Unfortunately E: drive has now become I: drive and F: has become J: I have followed instructions from other posts relating to Disk Management, however I don't get the option of using either drive E: or drive F: It wouldn't matter except that I have put together an Excel process in which the macros refer to drives E: or F: and I don't want to have to change them. Hi,
I made a ghost copy of my h.d and duplicated it to a new h.d
I wanted to keep the old h.d for back up.
The problem is that when I boot my p.c the new h.d gets the letter D and the old h.d gets the letter C
The new h.d is identified as the primary master on the boot sequence as well as when I enter the system via partition magic and other third side programs.
I tried to disconnect the old h.d so it wont influence the new h.d but then the p.c freezes on the windows welcome screen.
Whats happening?? (celeron 800 256 ram xp pro sp2)

I used to be able to place the 2-dot umlaut (diaeresis) sign on both lower case and capital letters, by pressing shift+contrl+colon key, then the desired vowel. This still works for lower case but does not work anymore for upper case.

I exchanged the keyboard, to no avail. It must be a software problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, and WindowsXP.

Please help!

I created a new partition and installed Windows on it a while back, but when I booted up, it had the letter G and my other partition that I used to store music was drive C..

I was going to change drive letters around so that my OS was on drive C, but I was wandering if this would mess up any applications I have on the system?

Thanks

Josh

Update:

I just went on Computer Management -> Disk Management and I saw my three partitions.. It says the following..

C: - Healthy (System)
D: - Healthy
G: - Healthy (Boot)

But this is what the drives are really used for..

C: - Music etc
D: - Old OS (Moving old documents over to new one then removing this partition)
G: - New OS

Any ideas?

I just would like to ask one more on this . Can I assign any available drive letter to a active partition that I create or does XP expect me to assign the next available in reverse order? As you can see in Disk Managment that I have Drives F;G;H;I listed and under Network Drives I have Q Thru Z. I thought my picture cards used Drives F;G;H;I ?
I belive these network drives have something to do with my 7410 all-in-one printer from HP. Oh ! Bye the way this is the wife's system we're talking about not my system.

This might seem like a strange problem but it seems to happen when I reboot and now with three external drives it is becoming a problem. Now I have several external drives for various types of storage and changing the letter designations can cause problems when programs are downloading special files. Can I change the letters for all but the permanent drives A,C,D,E which are all correct.

A:Solved: Changing Drive letters

Hello CarrollM,

You sure can.

Start Disk Management by Start > Run, type diskmgmt.msc and click OK.

You should see all the attached storage devices.
Right-click the drive you want to change and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths" in the menu.
Click Change to change the drive letter.

One thing you might like to do is mount the disk as a folder.
Say, for example you had a hard disk devoted to work. You could create an empty folder on your main OS partition called Work and mount the drive to that folder by clicking Add (at the place where you clicked "Change" above) and browsing to the Work folder you created and click OK. Then, when the disk is attached, you can access it's contents through the folder you created. This helps avoid all the drive letter switching that occurs when you have different drives attached and unattached. Something to consider. You still would have to point the programs to the folder but once it's set, you won't have to make changes as long as that folder is there.

Hope that helps.

I have a standard no frills black keyboard with white lettering, some of the letters have become worn and hardly visible, the E has gone completely and others look set to follow!
Is there a way such as letter adhesives to rectify this problem? I thought of somehow attempting to paint them on but I guess that wouldn't work well as it would alter the feel of them, any help would be most welcomed

The drive letters of my HDD's occasionaly change, which of course causes problems for all programs that use them. But for some reason each letter can only ever be used once.
For example, if i have drive A and change it to drive B. 'A' will no longer appear on the list of possible letters to change it too, it is removed from the list for this HDD and every other HDD as well. This means that when a program needs a file from drive A, i cant change the drive letter to A so the program will work.

After my Pc came back from having a new mother board put in, I noticed that the two hard drives & the dvd & cd r/rw drives had their assigned letters out of sync.
I used to have them in order, i.e. hard drives: C:\ & D:\ . DVD & CD r/rw drives: E:\ F:\. Is it possible to re-name them so that they are in alphabetical order again, as it is very confusing to me using them as they are. If so, how do I do it?
Hope someone can help.

A:Solved: How do I change drive letters?

This article should help. You may have to move one or more of the drives "down" (to a higher unassigned letter) in order to free up the letter you want to use, then reassign them in order. Just keep track of which drive is which when reassigning.

void main()

char letterin == 'A';

\\Stuff goes here that changes letterin into 1 (i.e. A = 1, B = 2, Z = 26)

Hi All,

I've been running into some problems using windows sync toy. I backup my documents to several usb drives. However, the drive letters change depending on what I have plugged into my computer. Because of this I often run sync toy and find that my documents were backed up on my music drive, or vise versa. Is there a way to assign static letters to usb drives?

Thanks,

A:Solved: static drive letters?

If you ONLY use the drives on a single computer, assigning drive letters in Disk Management will do the trick. However, when you plug the USB drive into another system, the signature bytes in the MBR get changed by the new system, and the original system "forgets" the drive assignment.

i need to know how to change a drive letter in Win.7 #1 and i need to change it from Win.7 #2 (duel-boot), i need to do this because OS #1 does not have a 'C' Drive, as its own system files are labeled as 'D:'. this is causing activation, windows genuine, and other problems and errors.

So is there any file (.ini or something) that I can change the drive letters

Thank you

A:[SOLVED] Changing drive letters from a different OS

In Win7, type "Disk Management" into the start menu, hit enter and then right click the drive you want to change. Choose "Change drive letter and paths" and then click the "Change" button. To the right there is a drop-down menu, pick one of those and click ok. Do that for both drives if you need to.

In "my computer" the drive letters have changed. I have a multi-card reader that doesn't seem to be working, that normally takes up drives F-J but not showing now. I tried attaching a screen shot to show the problem. Drive D has moved down to the group Q-Z.
Any ideas?
No new hardware has been added.
If the screen shot doesn't work can someone explain how?

Don't know how though. Went back a month with Acronis to see if it was a hardware or software issue. card reader worked fine. Moved again to yesterdays date and it works. Been no changes and the computer hasn't been moved so I don't think it was a loose wire or some such thing.
Strange.

I recently did a format/reinstall of XP and I've found that my drive letter's have changed. It is set up in the following way:

A: - Floppy
C: - HD (system)
D: - DVD-RW
E: - CD-ROM
F: - HD (personal)
H: - External

What I want to do is make the HD (personal) D:, the way it was before the format. Now I've gone to START->PROGRAMS->ADMIN TOOLS->CPU MANAGEMENT->Disk Management but I can only change the letters of my harddisks and the external drive there, and D isn't an option for the second HD (second partition, technically); presumable because the DVD-RW is using that letter.

How can I set this back up the way it was?

I have been trying to change drive letters on some external hard drives but keep getting an error message saying that access to the Virtual Disk Manager is blocked by my Firewall.

I was using the Windows 7 firewall program but this became so annoying that I just downloaded ZoneAlarm (free) and installed it. Now, I am getting same error message in Zone Alarm.

Windows help is like trying to read something in a foreign language that I do not speak. In other words, it is worthless.

Is there a simple explanation available telling how to allow this function to work so I can change the drive letters on my hard drives. At this time, all the drives show up under a drive letter different than the ones I originally assigned (that letter shows up too in parenthesis).

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I built my computer (see specs in sig), and After installing XP, my drives ended up being labled as follows:

Floppy = A:\
Flash Card Reader = C:\ , D:\ ,E:\ and F:\
DVD\CD = G:\
HardDrive = H:\

Now, for mostly everything I installed, I had no problem.. it just went right into H:\,
But.. now some other programs are looking at C:\ in parts of the install, and says I dont have enough room (due to its a flash reader). This is cuaseing me to not being able to install various programs, and its starting to tick me off.

My questions are:

1) Can I change Drive letter associations? or will that screw up everything I installed becuase the reg will be looking for the files on H:\ ?

2) And if not, would I have to reinstall win xp? can I even reinstall an OEM version?

3) Even if I reinstall and pull the card reader, wont the DVD\CD be labled as C:\, becuase it labled that drive g:\ last time, before it labled the hard drive H:\?

I thought this wouldnt be a problem, but now I see that haveing the hard drive labled H:\ is goinf to give me problems

any information will be helpfull, Thanks

hi..

when i have a value like "60.60" i have to get the value as "OE.OE"
here i have a default value stored for 0 to 9 in an array as
[index position] [values] in array
0 - E
1 - T
2 - R
3 - I
4 - N
5 - C
6 - O
7 - M
8 - A
9 - L

my code is

dim n,n1 as integer
n = 60.60
while(n/10) <>0
n1 = n mod 10
for i = 0 to array.length -1
if n1 = i then
array1(0) = array(i) & array1(0)
end if
next
n = n/10
end while

my problem is

after calculating the last digit...it comes as 0.6 and it is automatically rounding off to 1 and another character is adding before the value...i dont need this....
and also it is not working for decimal values..works for only integer values like "60"
so how can i solve this problem..thanks in advance for help....
