Dell Mini 9 battery

Q: Dell Mini 9 battery

I have a Dell Mini 910 that I bought a replacement battery for and it's behaving just as the old one did. I have read that it may need a bios update but I've updated as much as is available. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

Dell does not have a Windows 7 driver for your card. You can try installing the driver in compatibility mode.

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

A:does my hp mini book need new battery?

Are you using AC or battery only? If you are using AC, then it's likely not a battery issue.

Based on your description of it simply running "slow", I'd suspect an OS/software issue, or something hardware related such as a faulty HDD.

I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
i would love to get this problem solved. I'm using a PA-12 family adapt... Read more

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

I have a very small Asus desktop PC that only uses about 30 watts of electricity. It's supply voltage is 24VDC which it receives from a 24VDC power supply on the piece of equipment it is installed in. I want to add a battery to it so that when this machine is shutdown and power is removed abruptly from the PC it can shutdown gently. Hi i have a XPS M140 dell laptop, and bought a new battery, wich came charged to 40%, the instructions said that i should discharge the battery to 2% and then chargeit to 100% for first time.

I used the laptop withouth cord until it was 3%, then i plugged it but the amer light that should appear it is not when i plug the laptop with the battery installed, then i check the energy administrator (i have xp and lubuntu, and it both was the same) and it said "charging" but it stayed in 3%, i let it more than 12 hours plugged but never charged the battery, it is still in 3% and the light of the battery doesnt turn on.

I dont know if the battery is bad, because it worked when had charge, or is maybe the laptop that is not charging.

Is there a war to check if this port is charging electricity to the battery? i have a multimeter and i know how to open this laptop. Any information would be helpful as i havent been able to found information on this.

and also is there a way to know with the multimeter if the battery is allowing energy to charge it?

Can anyone confirm if this is normal? Or have I got faulty batteries or device?

I bought this back in October, upgraded the BIOS almost immediately and since then it has been very reliable in everyday use (now on Windows 10, 1511). However, during that period there has been the same power issue two or three times. While used on a laptop on battery power it shuts down completely for no apparent reason and cannot be switched on again with the power button. If then connected to the charger the switch operates normally and the PC reboots. The battery monitor shows the tablet at 2% (which should trigger a shutdown when used as a tablet) but the keyboard at ~ 100%.

This suggests to me a specific bug in the firmware or driver which is triggered by a particular set of circumstances, e.g. the battery switchover point happens to coincide with a timed change to sleep mode. Its annoying because apart from a possible loss of work it means I need to carry the charger even though the batteries will last all day.

Two questions. Has anyone else experienced this or seen it reported? Is there a simple way to inform Toshiba in the hope (!) that it might be added to a list of bugs to investigate?

My keyboard battery will not charge, I have left it charging for over 24 hours after battery 1 reached 100%.

I've checked the bios version which is 1.70. I've read other posts about this exact issue but unfortunately nothing is working for me.

It shows the charging symbol on battery 2 however it has not gone above 0%. If I turn it on the battery immediately drains from battery 1.

Please advise me on this issue as I will otherwise have to return my satellite click mini. Thanks in advance

A:Satellite Click Mini L9W-B Keyboard battery will not charge

Did you completely power off the unit?

Do that… press and hold power button until the unit would shut off.
Additionally you can shut off the unit pressing and holding SHIFT button and then choose SHUT OFF

Then check the connection between the keyboard docker and tablet… if necessary disconnect and connect it again.
After that power up the unit again and check the battery charging status connection the AC adaptor to the device.

I have this laptop for about five months.

At first everything was working fine. But suddenly a problem appeared with the loading of the screen battery, no matter how long I charge it, it stays stuck at 80 percent. So I can only get 40% overall battery now...

Since one of the main reasons I bought this laptop was its long battery life, this is a big problem for me...

If anyone could suggest any fixes for this, it would be much appreciated!

Hi guys,

my unit came fully discharged which was quite annoying. So I charged up the tablet to 100% and the keyboard battery was at the time reading 100% charge. Applied the bios update 1.70 and after boot the keyboard battery was showing at 0%. It will now not charge, the tablet is at 100% and Windows reports battery 2 is charging but it stays at 0%.

There is a high pitched electrical whine coming from the keyboard dock? Could it be a faulty battery? Or is it so deeply discharged it will not charge again?

Thanks in advance

A:Battery issues with brand new Satellite Click Mini

If the keyboard battery is deeply discharged, you have to keep the AC adaptor connected for at least 24 hours…

But the high pitched electrical whine coming from the keyboard dock sounds really strange…
I can imagine that there is some lose connection or an hardware issue…

Anyway, tablet must be connected to AC adaptor and docked to the keyboard dock while charging… please also ensure that the tablet is powered OFF (press and hold the power button 10-15 sec in order to power off the tablet)

I've got my click mini for a day and the battery of my tablet is empty, while the battery of the keyborddock is still 100%.
The click mini says i need to charge it. Why can't i use the battery of the keyboarddock?

A:Satellite Click Mini L9W-B - tablet battery is empty

Please check your BIOS version.
There is a new BIOS v1.7 which solves the issue with the keyboard dock battery charging status which was not recognized by Window system correctly.

You should also know that the battery
#1 refers to battery inside the tablet and the battery
#2 refers to battery inside the keyboard dock.
The battery status can be checked in the Windows Mobility Centre window.

When you use the tablet with the keyboard dock, the second battery pack (battery inside the keyboard dock) is the first source to provide power! It happens also that the battery could be deeply discharged
In such case it?s necessary to keep the tablet and keyboard dock charging for at least 24 hours.
The tablet must be connected to AC adaptor and docked to the keyboard dock.

Having just bought a ClickMini to replace my trusty Libretto 100 there are a couple of things that I hope other users or forum experts can help me with.

1) does anyone know how to TURN OFF tapping to click on the ALPS 'mouse pad'. Having been used to a 'nipple' and proper click bars this 'feature' does not work well for me, giving false activations more often than I would like. Note that I have looked at the pad properties in Control Panel and, it appears from this, that tapping either is not active (which it is) or that it cannot be changed. Note also that the ALPS driver is up-to-date having downloaded from the Toshibs website without effect on my problem.

2) how can I display the status of both the battery in the tablet section and that in the keyboard dock? Several folk refer to doing so, or seem to, in the threads below but I cannot find any way of doing so. Your help and advice will be valued.

Finally, although new to this forum and with a new machine, I am far from a Newbie in PC computing terms having bee using compurters in various guises since before the IBM PC was invented. So I am far from being inexperienced and unable to read between the lines of an instruction manual, indeed I have written many myself!

Hoping someone out there can help, yours aye

Firstly, just to say that this is a great little device but I like many have experienced teething problems during battery recharge.

My bios is is greater than v5, ie v5.2 now.
My experience in Nov 2015 was of battery number two not charging. It seemed to be something to do with the tablet connection, as on a few occasions just unclipping and reclipping seemed to then allow battery two to charge.

At this stage I will say that I primarily use the device like a mini laptop, rarely as a tablet, so am not generally clipping and unclipping the tablet all the time. For a while after it kept charging ok, no unclipping etc, all was well. Then I fitted a leather case, having to unclip the tablet to do so.

This triggered the battery numbr two no charge again. However after several unclips and reclips, plus a power off button sequence (as many have said before) my loveable Toshiba seemed fine at recharching both batteries again. Just a few days ago, though it went back into no charge of battery two mode. I wondered if the leather case was causing a slight uncoupling of the tablet to keyboard body and so removed the leather case, and unclipped and reclipped tablet and keyboard once again, this did not sovle the charging problem.

However closing down from the side power button and restarting several times seems to have solved the problem, again, perhaps only for the moment . . . I wait to see on my next recharge.

Also I have yet to see 12-13hrs available time shown o... Read more

I just recieved my Satelite Click Mini a few days ago and there seems to be an issue with the battery in the keyboard.

When I received the laptop I fully charged it and all was fine. I have been using the laptop frequently and noticed today that the main battery was down to 3%. I assumed that the power would revert to the 2nd battery but it did not and shut down. I then recharged and powered it up however the charging seemed to stall at about 40%.

After checking the forums I thought that a bios update (to 1.7) would solve this however it has not and other issues have flagged up. The first battery charges very slowly and seems to stall at 70% the second battery is showing at zero percent (before update it was at 100%), it also states that its plugged in and not charging.

Also, and i don't know if this is linked, but I found it extremely hard to type in this forum as the screen is flickering and I have to wait after pressing each key. I have had to post this on another laptop.

Any help would be appreciated, I am worried this laptop needs to go back to the factory.

Many thanks

A:Satellite Click Mini L9W-B - Battery/Charging issues

There have been a few ideas thrown around here in the forum. Easiest thing to try at this time would be to leave the tablet AND keyboard plugged into the wall to charge overnight. If the notification centre is still showing that it's not charging you might have to try a (maybe several) cold reboot (hold down the power button for 5-10 secs while tablet is on) to try to fix it. I would also ensure that Windows Update is up to date.

I'd just like to pitch in just for sharing's sake that BIOS update 1.70 increased my batttery life immensely. I was having to charge the tablet every night, now I can go every other night.

Puchased my Satellite Click Mini about three weeks ago from Amazon in the UK. Extremely happy with it up till now. After three weeks of overseas business trips in Asia I just noticed that the back of the tablet section/screen is bulging out slightly where I think the battery is. It is visible under the right light conditions and can also be felt.

I've had an iPhone that had this problem before but I did not expect this to come up so quickly on a three week old machine. I've only been using the packaged adaptor to charge with but have also been using plug convertors for different regions where I have been travelling. Couple of questions..

1) Anyone else had this issue with the battery bulging out? Or am I just imagining this and everyone else's is also like this?
2) I'm not able to get back to the UK until sometime in December but really need this machine for work etc. If the battery is gone, will it be semi-safe to use until I can get this back to Toshiba?

Would love to hear anyone else experiences

Hi, I've bought the Click Mini and have been setting it up for my personal use today. However I noticed the keyboard battery isn't charging. I have upgraded the bios to version 1.7. What I see now is that the Tablet is charged, which is good, but the keyboard is 'charging' according to windows, but it also only stays at 0%, thus not charging for real. I do also hear a high pitched noise coming from the keyboard when it is trying to charge. I have only tried to let it charge while it is in sleep mode so far. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Edit: Another thing I want to add: When I first opened the box containing the laptop, I had to completely charge it first before use. It was not possible to start the laptop without charging it first.

I have the following big problem with my Satellite Click Mini L9W-B - this happened already two times.

I suspect that this may be connected to some Windows 8.1 setting. It also may be it is BIOS related.

PROBLEM: if I leave the laptop in a sleep mode (by just closing the lid), then If I do not use it for some time (>10 hours) then after that I could not switch the laptop on - it simply does not respond to any keys including the power on button. It does not matter whether I connect the power or disconnect it, I still can not power on the laptop, also it does not matter whether I try it with or without the keyboard attached. BUT: the battery on back on the screen is warm ,so obviously the laptop has not been switched off completely and something (i.e. windows sleep mode or bios or something else) is preventing me to power it on.

The solution I have so far is to leave the laptop for a very long time disconnected (to drain the battery completely - it will not be warm any more!) and then connect the power and then it will be able to switch on. Alternatively, opening the screen cover and manually disconnecting the battery and then connecting it again also work. After that the laptop can be switched on and works fine.

Obviously it is not very good because to wait very long (several days!) or to open the cover is not really a good option when you need the laptop!

Can you help?

May be it is something to do with some power-saving features of Windows?

Many thanks!

A:Satellite Click Mini L9W-B - could not switch it on until battery is fully drained

There is a quick workaround instead of waiting for the battery to drain...

Hold down power button for around 20-30 seconds. That should hardware turn off the power completely allowing you to turn it on again.

Update the bios to the latest version and apply all windows updates after that, that may solve the sleep bug issue

Can a mod please explain why all my posts complaining about the fact that Toshiba can't fix the well-known Click Mini keyboard battery problem have been removed?

Caveat emptor, it would appear that not only does the product not work as advertised but all attempts to engage to get this fixed and to alert the community seem to be censored, too...

A:Satellite Click Mini - BIOS and keyboard battery problem

Please try this (worked for me)

Turn off laptop fully by holding down the power button

Place it in charger.

test to see whether or not it is fully turned off by quickly tapping the power button once. You should see two battery indicators.

Wait until the top one has charged..

When you see that the charge indicator is on the second battery, this will unfortunately not charge it... however..

tap the power button quickly to see the two indicators.

Quickly remove the charger plug from the laptop (not from the wall) and reinsert it back

Then wait...

After 20 minutes feel the charger on the wall.. if it is warm, then it is charging the keyboard battery...

Use Bios 1.7 or 5 before doing this (I tried it on bios 5)

Hi there, first-time poster/toshiba user here.....

So I got my click mini about 2 weeks ago......but from day one the battery doesn't seem to charge right.

The tablet battery would charge fine and would do so till a full 100%.

Then the keyboard battery would start charging and indicate that it is charging but it would only stay that way, the percentage levels for the keyboard battery would not go up.

The batteries combined would have a total percentage level of 51% and never higher. And when I unplug the charger the battery level in the tablet would start depleting. The keyboard battery would always show 0% whether plugged in or not.

I have updated to BIOS 1.6, did windows update, reinstalled to original settings and even tried out the 24hr continuous charge suggested here and also suggested by tech support but nothing has changed.

I'm kinda at a wits end with this as since I am living in Singapore I can't send it sent in to be repaired as its not under warranty here(they don't even have the hardware/software for it apparently) plus it'll cost me $150 just for them to look at it.

I was told by tech support when I first discovered the problem that BIOS 1.6 would solve the problem. But it has not.....and kinda weird too that they removed BIOS 1.6 update just a few days after releasing it.

Kinda frustrated coz I really like the laptop(perfect for on-the-go/travel).

Hello guys. I have a little issue here. I've got a HP Mini 5103 netbook and I am using Ethernet connection for internet.
The problem is that every time when I am unplugging the the charger from the laptop (meaning: laptop is working on battery power).
I suppose it is some kind of power saving option, but the fact remains that it's totally sucks, cuz then I have to keep the charger plunged all the time.
I tried to check the Advanced power settings, but there is no option to change Ethernet power settings, also I checked in the Devise Manager in Advanced menu of the Ethernet,, but again no luck to find a setting that would disable that function.
Pleas if you know anything about this problem,, help me out here

I had purchased this device from amazon. Below is a brief history and the issues with the dock battery.

Initially turned the tablet on (while connected to dock) - Took over 30 minutes to charge it. I assume this was because of the battery being discharged. (Thankfully it did eventually start charging)In Windows 8.1. the dock battery was showing as 100% and the tablet battery was rising as it was being charged. The 100% seems to have been an issue with the installed bios on the machine (Which was showing 100%, when it was empty in reality)Updated the bios to V5. Now the dock battery was showing as 0%.Upgraded to windows 10

No amount of charging would charge the keyboard battery. Once the tablet was at 100%, it would give the status of "not charging" for battery 2.

I tried the following

Kept the device connected overnight on 2 occasions (But bear in mind this was for around 10 hours only) - perhaps 24 hours may do the trick? but could not do this as I did not want to risk keeping a device charged while I was at work. Will try this in the weekend.Turned off the device fully and then charged overnight (This would show the two status indicators for the batteries and did show a charge icon next to the second battery, but no change in battery status)Attempted to remove the dock battery. kept it removed (took out connection to circuitboard) for 30 minutes, then reconnected it to the tablet and power, but no change.Attempted to power the device via low powered u... Swapped the batteries over.
Put the tablet on charge (with the fully depleted battery)
it started charging (power adaptor also got warm)
Left it for an hour or so (was then at 55% battery life)
swapped back the batteries

The issue still here is that when the tablet is fully charged 100% and in the keyboard dock. I assume the keyboard dock will then get charged. Unfortunately it is mentioning.. Not charging....

A Dell customer service advisor recently suggested I buy a new battery to fix a problem with my battery not being recognised at system startup nor charging when the adapter is plugged in.
Despite my AC adapter being the original adapter that shipped with my computer, the new battery still fails to charge. I receive a message informing me that the AC adapter type cannot be recognised (quickset). Furthermore, in what can only be described as an outrageous step, this message informs me that Dell will throttle my machine ("your computer will run more slowly") and then battery will not charge.
Clearly there is an error in the adapter hardware (most likely related to the well known one wire technique for battery verification)  meaning it cannot be recognised by the computer. I was therefore incorrectly informed to buy a new battery that neither solves the problem nor is of any use as it cannot be charged. Is this how Dell treats their customers?
I propose two solutions which Dell could offer me:
1. Send me a new, working 150W adapter compatible with my XPS 17 as a gesture of goodwill following the incorrect sale of a new battery at great expense which failed to solve the problem.
2. Provide a way to circumvent the faulty charger verification process. This is crucial for two reasons. Firstly the adapter is the original adapter that came with my computer so to verify its authenticity is not necessary. Secondly, Dell has zero right (non, whatsoever) to force consumers ... i can't seem to figure this thing out, i'm pretty computer savvy but not a genius. my laptop will make a wireless connection but it is unsecure. there is no 128bit encryption option on the mini-pc card options that i can find. i can't seem to figure out the WEP settings on this mini-pc card.

anyone have any ideas? i'll probably get quicker responses here than sitting and the phone with dell.

A:Dell 802.11b/g mini-pc car

I found this article from the Dell Support website for a Dell WLAN User Guide. (The card does permit WEP settings, so perhaps the router was not configured with WEP encryption).

The guide looks pretty detailed (I'm impressed... being that I've got a Dell laptop myself and find their manual pretty skimpy).

So... I am kind of being forced to hand over my Dell XPS 1530 to my mother because she messed up her laptop. (Sad... I love this laptop)

I will be getting a Dell Mini 10 as a "replacement". I installed Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 1530 and I am LOVING it like pretty much everyone else.

Basically to cut to the chase I wanted to know if Windows 7 will work on the Dell Mini 10. The Dell chat lady told me that it can only handle XP but thats makes no sense to me seeing as how the same innards are in the Mini 12 and that comes with Vista. I figure she was just telling me that because she had to.

So I am coming to you guy to see if someone can let me know if Windows 7 will function completely on the Mini 10. In order to help you guys help me out I will post the specs of the Mini 10 here...

Intel Atom Z530 (1.60GHz/533MHz FSB/512K L2Cache)
Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 500
120GB SATA HDD 2.5 inch 5400RPM

So like I said... I want to know if Windows 7 will work smoothly on the system. I want to keep Aero too because I am a stickler for aesthetics and I love the transparency. Not to mention the actually Aero functionality features are awesome as well.

Thanks in Advance!

hello Zax and welcome to the forums..
the big challenge for netbook is if there enough disk space followed by if they are wddm drivers and then ram

yours checks out good...
your challenge would be to actually get to the setup since i dont see any evidence of this netbook having a dvd drive...
if you search in the forums you will find out that it has been done with a dvd drive...

I believe the replacement battery you are after is a CR2032. If in doubt take the flat battery to your electronics store and ask for the equivalent. They're not very expensive.

I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

Sorry for being away from posting on the forum since a long time, though I have been visiting the forum lot many times, without logging in - mainly through Google search. That shows how effective the website really is.

Since some time a very persistent error has been bothering me and I thought it best to come here and post the issue.

After my original battery for my Dell Studio 1555 32-bit computer died, I replaced batteries thrice, one after another (the computer is five years old).
The three replacement batteries were:
1. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh
2. LB1 - matching specs but 48 Wh
3. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh

Since the second replacement battery, the Low Battery Alarm has been disturbing me each time that:
1. The computer is restarted with the main power disconnected.
2. The main power jack is removed after a 100% charge.
3. The main power jack is removed anytime.

Since in the first place I never set this alarm manually, I am assuming there could either be a Dell specific registry issue with after-market batteries, though I don't understand why. Either way the irritant must go.

I checked Advanced Power Options under Power Scheme but found nothing that would give me a hint of what's wrong.

The alarm screenshot is attached.

Any help would be welcome.

A:False "Low Battery Alarm" with after-market battery - Dell Studio

Rule out the OS and Drivers by downloading a Linux LiveCD and booting from that See if you get the same errors/alarms/warnings.
If you do it could be a faulty charging circuit in your laptop. Check with Dell and see if they have a battery calibration tool. Sometimes completely running the battery flat a couple of times does a "reset" kind of thing.
Sorry I can't think of anything else just now.

I have a Dell Mini 9 (910) and I can't seem to get the drivers installed. I entered my Service Tag and a list of drivers appeared. I downloaded them. They are all listed / named Dell Driver Download Manager from 1-23 of the same file. I need some help w/ this if someone would be so kind.

I never use the Dell Download Manager so not sure how it works. Are those files the ones that you run to actually download and install the various drivers?

By the way, 23 sounds like an awfully lot of stuff to be in a large computer, never mind a mini!

I've been asked to look at my friends netbook, its a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and won't boot up correctly.

The netbook switches on, goes passed the Windows XP screen and just opens the desktop only showing the wallpaper.

I have looked on many forums, and people recommend Ctrl + Alt + Del to oen the task manager and then run new task > explorer.exe. This does load the desktop icons but nothing seems to be responsive. I also deleted some Reg files instructed on several forums
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe
Once these keys are deleted the desktop and internet explorer should come back to life. But it doesnt.

My friend then told me that she doesnt care if I restored the netbook to its factory settings, as she didnt have anything of importance on the hard drive.

I thought excellent this will save some hardwork. Looked at instructions online people said Ctrl + F11 to boot up the restore screen, doesnt work, also tried Ctrl + F8 as some suggested this, nothing works tried every combination.

I was then told I should use an XP boot disk, but not having a cd drive doesnt really help.

What can I do to solves this problem, apart from buying a new laptop, any guidance would be much appreciated.

There are USB DVD burners out there for laptops, you could use one of those and it will install XP right from the installation disk.
If you don't intend on keeping the drive after the install, just return it.

If you are in the USA Staples Super Stores have USB DVD burner drives that will do the trick.

Hi, I hope someone can help.
I have a Dell Inspiron mini with a BSOD issue: The error code is 0x0000007B (0xF79E8524, 0xC0000034, ....)
I can’t start up in Safe Mode. The HDD is Seagate, I have run seatools/DOS which gives the all-clear. I have run all internal Dell diagnostics, all OK. I have tried both repairing and reinstalling Windows (running XP) from the original Dell disc supplied, from XP pro and home. When trying to do a new installation I can’t get past the F8 to agree screen, F8 does nothing so left with no choice but esc to disagree/quit. When tring to repair installation as soon as I have pressed R I’m then taken to a screen which tells me to type exit at the prompt, and can’t get any further.
I now have no idea whether this is a hardware or software issue, any advice or ideas will be much appreciated.

Currently have a dell mini 9 with 1 gig of ram and the atom n270 processor. (windows xp)

I'm a very performance oreintated pc user, so my quesion is will upgrading the dell mini with windows 7 increase performace?

I personally find it hard to believe that it will do to the small processor with only 1 core and 2 threads...

Suggestions? Opinions?

If you're performance oriented, why did you buy a netbook? They're designed for portability, not power. Windows 7 isn't going to provide a magical performance boost on an Atom-based platform, but it probably won't run any worse.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prvent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears, again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

***Stop: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x86F742B8, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

There is no cd/dvd rom drive on this laptop. I tried to boot into Safemode with Command Prompt. No success. I tried to boot to safe mode with networking. No success. Same for safe mode. Every way I could reboot i will always return to the blue screen with the same information. I have a Driver and Utilites Disc, But no cd/dvd drive to connect it to the laptop. I need a way to put it on a flasdrive and start from there. Any suggestions?

A:Dell Inpsiron mini 10

Generally, STOP 24 errors involve possible damage to either the file system (NTFS) or the hard drive itself. Information on all STOP errors can be found at"0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEMA problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions"I can't help you with any info about how to accomplish what I would do (run chkdsk /r command from the XP Recovery Console), but others here will probably have some ideas. In the meantime, you may want to browse Google Search, Recovery Console From Flash DriveLouis

Greetings kev1994, to TSF.

Your Dell? Inspirion Mini 10 does have a Hard Drive (albeit not the same size of one that's in a Desktop); who ever told you that it does not, is incorrect.

You can view the Inspirion Mini 10 Guides here. Those guides will show you the location and size of the HDD.

The fact that you get the message "operating system not found", means that the person that sold you this unit has wiped the Hard Drive, so there is no data on the HDD.

You will have to purchase your own Geniune Microsoft? Windows CD to install the Operating System yourself.
Considering the age of the unit, one would suspect that Windows? XP, or Windows? Vista? would be the Operating Systems that would suit the machine.
All the necessary Drivers are also available from the link above.

Please post back with your thoughts/queries.

Kind Regards,

My Dell inspiron mini that is only a few months old gave out on us a few nights ago. We turned it back on and it appeared to be restarting, the windows symbol came up and it was loading but then a blue screen pops up saying that the computer has been shut down. We have run all the tests, and can't find any problems. The mini laptop that we have does not have a cd drive in it I have tried putting the windows disk on to a USB and booting it through that but it won't work. Please help! Any suggestions?

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 and it no longer boots fully into windows. It goes throught the prompt screen at start-up normally and goes to the next screen, which is a black screen with a green loading bar and has the microsft corporation coyright below it. Normally it will boot into the normal windows operating system after this screen, however it just keeps restarting and cyclying through these two screens indefinitely.

I have already disassembled the computer and cleaned it out and looked for any loose and/broken components but saw neither. Also, I have already re-imaged the computer, setting it back to the original factory state. Neither of these has seemed to help the problem at all and it continues.

Any idea what may be causing this issue?

A:Dell mini continuously restarting

Since you completely re-imaged the system, I would suspect it is a hardware issue of some sort, Dell usually has hardware diagnostics that can be run

I have a Dell XPS 420, it came with miniview (part of the tower), turned on with Vista. I have just now noticed that with 7 it is not on. I go to device manager and I eventually come to the instructions turn on Miniview. My question, HOW?

A:Dell XPS 420 Mini View Problem

I was searching dell xps when I come across your post about the miniview. I done a custom install of Windows 7 Pro, and had no problems with dell miniview, I don't know how to turn it on/off though. If you need some screen shots on settings I will be glad to put some up if you tell me what you need.

Has anyone had any experience with a Dell Inspiron Mini 12 (its model number is actually 1210)? In particular how well does it play video on Windows XP; say a ripped standard DVD or downloaded video of 640*360 resolution.

I have borrowed one from a colleague but it runs a non-optimal version of Ubuntu (it came with Vista Basic). I would really like some feedback from someone who has one running Windows XP with all the supplied drivers. This one's video drivers are very poor and you can't set it to the native resolution of 1280*800. If I try to play a 640*360 clip in full screen mode on Totem Movie Player if fails miserably.

From the reviews I've read I'm pretty sure that it is quite capable of playing standard video I would just like some reassurance from someone you has tried it out.

I really like its form factor. It is only slightly heavier than my Acer Aspire One with a great screen and keyboard.

Thanks in advance.

i have a dell mini 9 with Fedora 13, and yesterday my screen just broke, it turns on, but doesn't display anything except like black and white with lines and it flickers, so i need to know if it's my screen, which then means i need a new screen, the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard, or the OS.

Hello, i've been trying to fix a Dell Inspiron 910.
It had Windows installed before, but now can't get it installed.
I've been trying to install windows XP. The setup starts in text mode, but when should show the "to setup windows xp now, press enter", before the EULA screen, it locks. More specifically in the black screen after loading files.
I don't know what to do because it only has 512mb of ram and an 8GB IDE SSD.
It seems to work properly, because i've tested the ram and ssd and are fine. Also, the computer boots from a Linux liveCD just fine.
What can I do?

So I picked up a mini 1010 (MFG date Dec 2009) at an electronics recycling place for $15.

Obviously it's not in top condition for that price.
What's missing is:
-Touchpad and palmrest
-AC adapter

It was also missing the HDD, I installed one that I had lying around.

Basically I want to see if the motherboard still works before I buy more parts for it.
My questions are:
Can it run/turn on without a battery installed?
I've tried plugging it in to what seems to be a compatible AC adapter (19v) but no lights come on, and no HDD sounds.
Also, if it is the motherboard, could it be software or bios issues, obviously it could be hardware as well, but I want to make sure before I just chuck it.

One more thing, if it does need a battery installed, could I just bridge the connections in the battery plug area, just for testing purposes? If so, which ones do I bridge. I don't want to buy a battery unless I know it works.

Would appreciate some expertise on the situation.

A:Dell Mini 1010 Restoration

If you have the proper AC Adapter, it should work without a battery installed. My Dell works without the Battery installed. I would take a clue from the fact that it was not complete and it was found at a computer recycler. Not working was probably the reason it was there, and the missing parts could have been canniblized to repair another Mini.

I have a Mini 10 that belongs to my Mother in Law. She got a virus and one of her relatives attempted to repair it and messed it all up.
I agreed to look at it. When I got it upon boot it gave me the message that Windows had to be revalidated before I could log on. If I click yes, it would go to a background screen and freeze. Reboot and the samething.
She had lost everything anyway so I attempted a factory reload of Windows XP. (her original disk) Everything went fine untill it gets to the EULA screen.
There you have 3 choices, F8 accept, ESC not accept, page down. The only key that will do anything is ESC which reboots and runs thru the cycle again.
I then reformatted the HD. No change. I thought bad OS disk, so I borrowed one from another Mini 10 and it does the same thing.
At this point I do not know what else to try. I have an IT background but I retired several years ago. So I do know enough to be dangerous.
Any help would be appreciated.

I bought a Mini 10 Dell netbook during the summer. I was pretty excited to see how a netbook with comparable(sightly better) computing power to my 5 year old 700m. The size and the price were nice.

I decided to go with linux b/c I had some experience with it and was somewhat fond of linux. For freeware OS, the overall price was the same. I had a lot of issues with the touch pad and the mouse buttons. Overall performance seemed lower than it should have been. I tried different distributions, but the dell distribution was the best(mediocre). I had a lot of buyers remorse and was a little mad at Dell for selling a product that maybe wasn't ready.

I saw online that Microsoft had a student discount for Windows 7 Professional. So I got that and made the neccessary changes to upgrade.

So far, everything works great! The touch pad and buttons work perfect. It is now possible to click and drag stuff. Overall performance appears to be up as well. And it is, of course, visually pleasing. Flash video works a billion times better too.

I posted this for anyone that pondering trying Windows 7 on their mini 10, but might feel uneasy. It was definitely the best $29 I have ever spent. My machine is now everything I was expecting it to be before I bought it.

Well, after more research on this netbook I understand it is mainly for use to surf and check Email, not much else. I may need to delete some programs installed such as Power point viewer and an Adobe program. This may free up some space so I can defragment. Can anyone else chime in?

Hello, I have my friends little Dell mini 910. It had a bunch of viruses on it when i first started fixing it. It also had corrupted and missing files. I'm proud to say that has been fixed. Thanks to malwarebytes/cleaner/glary until. So i thought i would perform a hard drive defrag. Well after it analyzed. Yikes. It has allot of red in the status bar.So i let it run the defrag. After it was done there was allot that was irremovable fragmented files. I also heard it better to run in safemode while defraging. Well this is my problem. When at the boot screen it allows two options 0 and 2 (o is boot options and 2 is for tests) i have tried F-8 with no luck. The keyboard uses a function key to press in order to use any of these other keys F1,f2,f3,f4,f5,f6,f7,f8,f9,f10 it a strange little computer. Is the no safemode on these? Also are these drives removable? Thanks for reading my post.

Just got a new Dell Mini 10V.. Win XP Home. Has SP3, and has IE6. I cannot get the Microsoft website to display/respond so I can update XP. I get the "cannot display this webpage" error. Thought it may be a problem with the MS site, so checked on another, updated machine... no problems.

Any ides on why a brand new machine would have a problem accessing the Update site? I can call Dell, but figured if i'm missing something, or there is a simple potential fix, this would be a LOT quicker than Dell Support.

Hi all!

My gf laptop suddenly acting up today.

First, it decided that it doesn't want to load up Microsoft Office 2007. She was trying to open a ppt file but it did not work.

Second, she turned it off (apparently there were some updates and she choose "shut down without installing updates". I don't know if this is relevant). When she tried to turned it on again a few hours after this msg came up:

For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v.1.08 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
Operating System not found

And we can't go further than that anymore.

Tried to check the boot squence and it is HDD, USB Storage, CD/DVD/CD-RW, Removable Devices, Network Boot.

Please bare in mind Dell Mini 9 doesn't come with CD Rom device.

Andddd...She just told me that when she shut it down, she yanked out the power cable when the screen still showing the windows shut down. Could that be the reason for the laptop failure in detecting the HDD??

Thanks a lot for your kind attention and help guys!! Really2 appreciate it!

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron MIni 10 off of ebay. It seemed to be perfect, then I began surfing the internet and the antivirus program started causing trouble. It turned out to be malware so I uninstalled it and it worked fine. Then I went to youtube an the computer randomnly froze. Now I try to start it up and it gets to the Windows XP Home screen, then freezes. It used to work in Safe Mode. I even did the system restore. Now it gets past the dell load up screen, but then displays a black screen. It will not go any farther and now safe mode doesn't even work. I did diagnostics and got no error codes.

Can anyone help me find the user and service manuals for my Dell 1011 mini netbook? I have located the one on the Dell site, but that one is a section by section 'on the web' version. I would really like to have the manuals in PDF or Word format, so I can download, view, save, and print as all one file.

The one's I have tried lately are from malicious sites that have malware, etc. in their files.

Thanks in advance!

You may download the 'PDF format' of the 'Service Manual' for Dell 1011 Mini: (Please ensure that you follow all safety instructions mentioned in the document)

I also found the 'Setup Guide' for Inspiron 10 Mini in 'PDF Format':

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Has anyone modified/upgraded one of these yet? If so with what components?
It's a neat little computer, but needs faster processor and faster/more ram.
Thanks! Alan

A:Solved: Dell mini 1012 netbook

They're not designed to be upgraded beyond the RAM and hard drive. A processor upgrade is not an option. I think you misunderstand the purpose of a netbook. They're portable, low-powered, and inexpensive. If you're expecting regular laptop-quality performance, you're going to be disappointed.
