Q: Solved: Low priority problem, hmdi to hdmi desktop and monitor connection not working

I really don't expect a solution to come out of this; but I would appreciate it if you looked into it. The problem was accidentally caused by me. I have a ati radeon 6850 graphic card hooked up to a Samsung syncmaster t260hd moniter. One day I tried to go to the graphic utility ccc to change the resolution and hertz. Because old movies looked jittery at 60 hertz. I must have used a hdtv custom resolution and now my monitor wont work anymore. It displays mode not supported the moment I turn on my computer. I used both hdmi ports on the monitor to no avail. But, now here the tricky part, I uninstalled the amd driver software, but I also installed driver software via steam video driver update feature way back in the past. As of now, I am using a dvi to hdmi connection with no noticeable difference in picture or video.

Below is the tgs sysinfo log. However, you can take your time, I can wait. There are users with more urgent problems. And thanks for looking into it.

Hi,

New to this forum. Hope you can help.

I have been using an external monitor (Samsung PX2370) with my Toshiba laptop (about 2 years old), connected via an HDMI cable. Up until today it has been working fine. This morning the audio stopped working. Now the laptop does not find the external monitor at all when connected via HDMI. I can connect fine with the VGA cable. I have tried a new HDMI cable but it doesn't help.

Any ideas would be most welcome

Regards

A:HDMI connection to second monitor has stopped working

Is there anything blocking the HDMI ports on the computer and the monitor? you may want to clean them with compressed air.

If that doesn't help try connecting the laptop to another monitor or TV via HDMI so you can determine if it is the HDMI on the computer or the monitor.

Hi everybody
I've got a problem with my laptop and I hope someone can help me.
Recently, in order to extend my screen, I connected a new monitor to my laptop using HDMI cable.
The problem is whenever my PC goes to hibernate and I try to wake it up, second monitor fails to start and since it is defined as the master screen, each time it happens, I have no choice but restarting the PC.

I'll be so grateful if someone can tell me how to fix this problem.
By the way, windows version is 10 pro.

I received a new M900, and set it up as per instructions. I have a Dell S2415H HDMI monitor attached with a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter to an NVIDIA GT720 graphics card. When I power up, the system disk light indicates that it's working, but the monitor doesn't respond. Researching this, someone has suggested that for the initial power-up, a VGA cable might be required, and the driver to facilitate the Dell monitor could then be installed. Has anyone experienced this problem, and found a solution? Thank you.

A:M900 Desktop HDMI Monitor Problem

1.  Some DP to HDMI cables only work for specific product combinations.    I recommend using Lenovo DP adapters or AMD approved adapters (Google for the list.)    If you can bypass this cable, and/or see if any of the other ports work, that would be great.

2.   Could be the BIOS needs to be set for the add-on graphics card.    Put a monitor directly on the built-in ports, and check the BIOS video settings for enablement of the PCIe graphics card.

Duel boot XP-Pro/Windows7-Pro system with Gforce 8200 graphics, one HDMI port and one VGA port. Monitor on HDMI connection works as always in XP which is that the out of range message goes away at the login screen.

Not the case with Windows 7 though. There is a brief moment when the out of range message goes out and the screen is just backlit but somewhere just before and very near the time of the little login sounder it goes out of range again.

I can successfully log in blind but...nothing, Windows 7 loads fully but the monitor stays out of range. I've tried the graphics drivers that 7 installed itself and the latest from NVidia and I've tried setting the resolution to 1920x1080 while connected by VGA and booting back to HDMI. No joy. Everything works fine if I switch over to the VGA connection but that is already occupied by another computer without an HDMI port so...

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about what might be keeping the monitor out of range when booting to 7 on an HDMI connection?

A:Solved: Monitor out of range on HDMI connection

Progress update:

Well, while I took part in the great organic regenerative unconciousness, the monitor came on at some point. I left both VGA and HDMI ports connected and Windows 7 thought it had two monitors connected. I found I could switch back and forth at will and set the correct resolution for both and even managed to pull the VGA connection and maintain screen visuals via HDMI.

However, 7 disallowed aero and has given me some odd refresh rates (29 interlaced, 59 and 62). Adapter properties lists GeForce 9200 now instead of 8200. Crossed my fingers and rebooted...out of range message now goes away at login and aero came back, so far.

I'm going to mark this solved but feel free to comment if a similar transgression has occured and the up front solution is known.

Until and unless that happens, well, I guess my advice is to sleep on it!

Hi,

I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?

Thanks,
Gijs

A:HDMI to HDMI only working with second monitor attached

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi guys,

I decided to purchase a Samsung LED monitor and have connected it up to my pc using a HDMI cable. I recieve the picture on the screen but no audio, been spending the majority of today trying to solve the issue but have landed short.

My set up is a AMD A10-5800K APU, 8 GB ram and using windows 7 64 bit. The monitor I purchased is a Samsung LED monitor T32E310EX.

Currently the speaker symbol has an x next to it, when I click it it tries to fix the problem. When I right click it and go to playback device it shows Digital Audio HDMI (High Definition Audio Device) as my default device but no sound bars next to it. If anyone could help me out that would be great thanks

Hello! This is my very first post on this site. I was looking for a good place for tech support and this was recommend, so now I'm here!

Alright - here's the story.

A few months ago, my neighbor moved. They gave away some of their stuff, one of which is a ViewSonic VG2427wm monitor, which was given to me. At first glance, it didn't look like much. Then I decided to some research on it, and it turns out that it's actually an HD monitor back from 2009. It even displays in full 1080p! After I found that out, I wanted to try out my Wii U with it . . . That's when I ran into a pretty big roadblock. Turns out that even though it can do HD, the oh so sensible people at ViewSonic decided to NOT incorporate an HDMI port! (Weird, right?)

Anyway; it has two input ports - a DVI-D port and a VGA port. I've been using my laptop with the monitor through the VGA port, and it displays at 1920x1080. Little did I know that VGA is quite archaic when compared to DVI and HDMI. I just went on vacation to the States (I live in the Bahamas) - and I was able to pick up a really affordable (yet well-reviewed) DVI-HDMI (male-to-male) adapter cable, made by ULTRA. Since I couldn't bring my monitor with me, I had to wait to get all the way back home here in the Bahamas.

Why, oh why?

As soon as I got home, I plugged in the cable to the back of the monitor (the DVI end) and into my Wii U (the HDMI end). I powered on the monitor, and WALLA ----- oh wait. "No Signa... Read more

Hi, welcome to TSG

If this is a branded system please provide the make and model number.
If this is a custom built system please provide the make and model of the motherboard.

Are you using on-board graphics or a graphics card?
If a graphics card please provide the make and model.

Do you have a different computer you can use to check the monitor is functioning correctly.

As the monitor has multiple inputs have you checked whether it is set to auto-detect or are you manually changing the connection type via controls/buttons on the monitor?

Please provide the make and model of the monitor if you are not sure how to switch between settings.

Hello guys!

I recently ran into a problem with my main LCD TV(I need to replace the power supply.) I use that LCD TV for my desktop computer, and right now all I have is my laptop. I use synergy to control both computers. However now it doesn't matter because I cannot see the desktop portion. Is there anyway for me to output my desktop computer to my laptop monitor?

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

Hey guys, it was a long time since I needed assistance with any technical stuff but today is the day again.

So it is like this,
I am using an Asus N61JQ laptop and I always used the VGA cable to connect any monitor or projector. Today I wanted to connect my laptop to my Dell U2412M monitor with a digital cable instead of VGA and that is when got in to problems.

Dell U2412M connections: DVI, Display Port, VGA.
Asus N61JQ connections: HDMI, VGA.

To connect the laptop to the monitor I have used an nVidia adapter that came along with one of the GPU's + an 1.8m HDMI cable.
This is the link to the adapter: http://www.ascendtech.us/mmASC/Images/P331X.jpg
So I connected the adapter to the monitor and then the HDMI cable from the laptop. In the end I did not get any image.
Just to be safe I have also installed the original drivers for the GPU and audio chip from Asus support.
The cable is not faulty nor is the adapter, tested it on an old laptop that had DVI on the side of it.

Question:
WHY? Something to do with the signal conversion and it suppose to work just from the back of a GPU?
What kind of an adapter or cable do I need then?

PS,
I do not really want a big adapter sticking out of my laptops HDMI port, it is way too easy to break. But please include both the adapter and the cable that I need in the explanation just so I know this for the future.
Thank you for your time.

Alex

A:HDMI laptop / DVI monitor cable connection

Faulty/incorrect adapter. Try a different adapter or use a DVI to HDMI cable. It's also possible that it won't work at all. The adapters are generally meant to connect to the PC side (ie: DVI output). This is because most HDMI ports also expect/utilize HDCP.

My very limited understanding of HDMI is that it's typically a single-cable audio/video connection to high-definition TVs. Is it worthwhile for standard PC-to-LCD connections?

A:Advantage of HDMI for standard PC to LCD monitor connection?

Only if your TV doesn't have a DVI in. DVI will give you just as good quality.

Another thing to note is in a traditional home setup HDMI carries audio and video. So unless you have one of those video cards that will also output the audio with its built in HDMI connection you will not get audio to your TV through HDMI.

tldr: My desktop icons get rearranged upon change in HDMI connection, but go back to normal when changing back.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 x64 connected to a monitor of a higher resolution than my laptop screen's. I have it set to extend the display. The icons are arranged on my main laptop display correctly with the HDMI connection active. When I unplug the HDMI cable, the laptop display goes black for a long time (over a minute) with some weird stuff flashing on the screen (incorrect resolutions, parts of the screen displaying in the wrong area, etc) and when it figures it out and returns to the correct resolution, the icons are all messed up. Usually I use the Windows Key + P shortcut to try to make it work faster (though I can't see the on-screen switcher thing). Additionally, if I use that shortcut with the HDMI connection active, something similar will happen (though it won't go black for a long time; it just makes the top of the image go to the bottom of the laptop's display). In either case, reconnecting/going back to "extend" works well and puts the icons back where they should be. It might be that the icons are correct with the two monitor setup just because I set them up correctly one time with this setup, so if I unplugged it and set them up correctly, they would screw up with it plugged in. This would mean that the change in monitor setup causes the icon change. Note that I use DisplayFusion for wallpaper management, but I be... Read more

I purchased the 5510 with the high DPI touchscreen, running W10 and after some fiddling with it, including going to Windows 8.1 scaling and forcing the non high DPI aware applications to utilize that scaling too, I am really happy with the laptop itself.
The problem is connecting it to anything else.  I heard that not all HDMI cables would support 4K monitors, so I went to the local electronics retailer and tested it. HDMI worked fine with a 4K screen.  I thought surely it would be able to drive also a standard run of the mill 24in 1920x1200 screen as an external monitor, with different scaling factor.
Nothing at all.  Tried also using HDMI to a HDMI-DVID adapter and utilizing that port, same problem.
The monitor simply gets no signal.  The computer never recognizes the fact that it is connected.  It seems like a case of zero compatibility.  I tried going to other monitor appropriate resolutions, etc. it does not work at all.
While this is annoying by not being able to use an external monitor when I go home in the evening, or it means I need to buy a new high DPI monitor, what about connecting to a projector.  HDMI is the standard, and no projector runs 4K.  Why have a laptop that you cannot use for presentations?
I am not keen to go experimenting trying to purchase more dongles/adapters/ports for USB C without some idea why the built in HDMI has zero use as a connection to a projector or monitor.

Hi, folks,

I need some help! I have had my PS3 connected to my HP 2207w computer monitor via HDMI since the day I bought my PS3 (about 9 months ago.)

Last evening, while trying to load NBA Live, the monitor screen went blank. I tried to restart the PS3, etc. to no avail. I have my computer connected to the same monitor via VGA and it still works fine.

I disconnected the PS3 from the computer monitor and hooked it up to my Sony HDTV via HDMI. It flickered. I then connected the PS3 to the HDTV via the RCA cables. Reset the display output to 720p HDMI and connected the HDMI cable.

The PS3 worked on the HDTV, so I reconnected it to the computer monitor -- it still says no input signal.

Took the PS3 to another HDTV in the house and connected via HDMI with no problems. Again took it back to the computer monitor and it still says no signal.

Clearly, the computer monitor is not receiving a signal from the PS3. I am lost. It worked 24 hours ago.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I would say the roblem has gotten worst, as the connection is more fragile as far as the frequency the connection is established and the frequency the connection is lost.

I have a Sony Vaio Z216GX connected via HDMI to the monitor (HDMI-DVI) port. I can definitely see the video, but no audio is playing from the speakers. I also set the monitor as the default for the audio and even when Win 7 says its functioning properly, the speakers still don't work. Conversely, setting the default to my PC speakers work fine. Any help would be much appreciated and Thanks in Advanced

Hi All,

I just set-up my new Asus computer with an Asus monitor. It seemed like a straight-forward task. I hooked up both the VGA and HDMI cables to the nVIDIA graphics card slot in the back of the tower.

I keeping getting this message "VGA No Signal". I tested the VGA cable by using it on my old computer. It works fine. I used my old cable on the new monitor and same message.

If I remove the HDMI cable from the graphic card slot the monitor works! I figured once I had Windows 7 set-up it would take the HDMI cable but no such luck.

Is there something wrong with this new monitor, the graphic card slot or I just missed something.

Also, I find the system is very slow to start-up even though the computer is much more powerful than my six year old computer.

Thanks, ms

Suddenly my HDMI 2 connection with the LG TV has stopped working.

When I switch in Input to HDMI 2 it comes up on screen Connecting as usual but then reverts to no signal.

I?ve taken the lead out and in again but it still won?t connect.

I note when researching this problem some people are suggesting graphic driver updates and I did start with a Microsoft thing but cancelled cos I was worried in case it was not legit or virus etc.
I'm an oldie and nervous of this stuff.
I haven?t changed anything ? it was working earlier but just didn?t work when I switched as usual to HDMI 2
I do hope somebody can help me

Hi, when I was studying abroad, I was using a Samsung B2330 LCD monitor with the system which specs I have mentioned below. I have an HDMI cable that I used with that monitor and it worked like a breeze no problems. I even connected my PS3 to the same monitor but with a separate cable and that worked with no problems as well.

When I went back home I took the PC but I left the monitor behind. That's because I have the exact same model monitor at home. I connected my PC to the home monitor with HDMI but it doesn't display anything at all. The same problem with the DVI cable (To be honest I never used the DVI cable with the monitor abroad). I do get signal from the RGB cable without fail. Oh yeah, I also use the same HDMI cable I used abroad. At first I thought it was the cable's fault but I get the same result with 2 other HDMI cables as well. Plus all 3 HDMI cables work fine with my PS3, which also doesn't work with the home monitor. Now it cant be the monitor's HDMI port fault because my brother plays his XBOX360 on the same monitor through HDMI without problems.

The main problem is i'm not getting signals from both HDMI and DVI even though all my drivers are up to date. It cannot be the computer's HDMI port fault as well because it works when I connect it to my 40" Samsung LCD TV. I did not change the configuration of my PC at all from when I came back home and when I was abroad. Please help. Thank you.

A:Problem with HDMI and DVI on my monitor.

I'm probably wrong but what pops in my mind is Regions.
DVD's and DVD players are broken down into Regions of the World
a region 3 DVD wont play on a Region 1 DVD player.
when you install Windows it ask you what language and region/type keyboard setup to use.
can your PC and Monitor be fighting with each other since they come from different countries.

side note when I upgraded my 42 inch LCD Tv to HDMI cable---finally got a cable tv box that had a HDMI port.
I ran into issues with digital Content Protection my tv is older than my new cable tv box.
LCD TV put up warning that digital Content Protection wasn't detected
my HDMI cable works but not sure at what speed it running at.
cable tv provider told me to go back to using AV cable, but I stuck with HDMI.
cant really tell difference.

Ok, so here's the thing. I started running triple monitor recently, but the requirements of that mean that I have had to unplug my speakers and only use my headset. But, two of my monitors (leftmost and rightmost) both have a 3.5mm audio jack so I bought a 3.5mm stereo to 2x 3.5mm mono (L+R) splitter but sound doesn't play through the leftmost monitor's speakers when it's connected via HDMI.

So, right now as it stands with my monitors Left is on HDMI, Middle is DVI so is Right.

Tested this out and while it works when I have both end monitors plugged in using DVI cables but the middle monitor doesn't have a hdmi slot, and because of how the surround works via my nvidia card left, middle and right have to be plugged in to the ports they are currently in (I think), but even if they didn't I only have two DVI ports anyway.

Is there a way to make to left monitor play sound via the 3.5mm audio while it's plugged in via HDMI?

A:Solved: HMDI conflicting with 3.5mm Audio

Have you considered simply physcially moving the monitors? Then you can have DVI connectivity on each end, and HDMI on the middle unit.

Otherwise, it depends on the monitor. I've not used units with built-in speakers, but the monitor itself would have to allow you to select the audio input (source). Sounds like it defaults to HDMI. It may or may not be configurable.

Ive plugged it all in and then used the ATI Catalyst Control Centre to set it up to how it was before. While using it to set it up it detects both monitors but when i finish the setup to clone the display to both nothing comes up on the tv, ive tried both HDMI ports on the tv but still nothing. If the computer detects its plugged in then why it not working. Any ideas i'll try asap and let you all know what the outcome is.

Hi Everyone! Been a while since I posted. I recently purchased a new TV. I put my old TV (2 years old, Dynex 42" LCD) in my bedroom. I bought a new HDMI cable and plugged into the TV at HDMI 1 and into the back of the computer. There is only one HDMI port on the back of the PC, which is a Dell studio XPS that I bought a year ago. It is win 7 with Nvidia GE Force GTS 240. After I plugged everything in, I turned on my PC and the TV. The TV has the blue "no input" screen, and the PC didn't detect it. I went into the display settings by going Control Panel- Appearance and Personalization- Display- Screen Resolution. I clicked on detect, and it didn't detect it. I clicked on the picture to add a monitor and selected "Multiple Monitors". Resolution is 1024x768 and the displays are set as duplicate. I went into the control panel for NVIDIA and clicked a link for "Display not shown". It opened a window to perform a rigorous display detection and a box that popped up said "Rigorous display detection was unable to find additional displays. However, some televisions are not detectable like computer displays. If this is the case, and you are certain your television is connected, the television connection can be enabled and your television will be available. Would you like the television connection enabled?"

I clicked YES!

I just got a Hanns-G HH281 28" HDMI LCD monitor.

Currently I'm using VGA converted with an adapter to DVI, cause my video card does not have VGA ports.

The monitor came with an HDMI to DVI wire, I tried using it, but I would just get a message saying it can't find the signal.

My video card is a GeCube Radeon X1950Pro 512MB which does not have HDMI nor is it HD. Is that the reason?

Also, if that is the problem, can someone link me a cheap Radeon HD card that is as good if not better than my current card? I've been thinking about upgrading to one of those cheap $35 Radeon HD cards from Newegg, but the problem is, I don't know a whole lot about video cards, like I have absolutely no idea how many stream processors my video card has, etc.

I know the majority of the cheap Radeon HD cards have like only 80 steam processors and the expensive ones have like 800. I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

Any help is appreciated.

A:Solved: Using HDMI With Monitor

Depends on what you do as far as graphics go.
Is it just for video or gaming too?
If just video,a 3450 would do.
If you're a gamer,you probably want at least a 4650.

The hdmi port may be the secondary input on the monitor.
Check the monitor menu to see if you can switch inputs.

Hello, This is a brand-new monitor (got it just today actually). Link to YouTube clip showing the problem As you can see from the clip that I uploaded to YouTube, whenever I press the ON button, after a few seconds a purple screen flashes quickly and then disappears. The monitor does NOT turn on. When the screen flashes the purple color, it does say that the "HDMI connection" is "active".  The monitor is connected to my mac air 2013 via HDMI. What is causing this problem? Is it the monitor or is it the connection? Could it be something wrong with my mac air itself? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well I have been having issues with my monitor. I'll give you a bit of what is going on. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen. So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken please explain to me how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?

Hello.

For a long time I have used a multiple monitor with a hdmi cable. A TV in my room, so i can watch movies from my computer on the TV. I also set the TV-monitor to default sound device so the sound would come from the TV and not the PC speakers.

Suddenly it just stopped working... So i first tried changing the hdmi cable without any luck.

- then i tried connecting my xbox 360 to the TV to check if the input to the tv was broken. but it worked perfectly.
- then i tried connecting the pc to my pc screen with hdmi to see if the hdmi output was broken. this worked perfectly.
- then i got a new TV and it worked ok, but with minor problems..

there are 2 problems

1. When i only have the desktop showing the screen is perfectly still.. but when i watch a movie there is a little flickering on the screen...

2. When using the tv as default playback device for sound it goes on it of... for example when listening to music the music plays for 20 seconds, then stops for a second or two.. then repeat...

Anyone know what the problem might be? some settings probably? i kinda spend most of my spare time watching film on the tv... but this problem keeps stopping me... :-(

hope someone has a good answer for me.. and please write in a language i understand (im not a computer expert)

Hello everybody.
I'm finally on my way to the magical world of widescreen PC monitors from my trusty old 4:3 LCD and I'm absolutely stuck deciding between the two final contestants; Dell UltraSharp U2312HM and BenQ GW2450HM.
The former seems to beat the latter in almost all aspects, except for connectivity, as it lacks HDMI.
I plan to use the monitor both for PC gaming and movies as well as playing my PS2 on it through my amp, connected as described in the title, more clearly described now:
I'll connect the RCA L+R+video cables from the PS to my amp's (Yamaha RX-V565) AV input, then make it output the video through its HDMI out and connect that to my monitor, either with a straight HDMI-HDMI cable or in the case of the Dell monitor, with an HDMI-DVI cable that I got just for that.
The HDMI-DVI cable did not work before as, I believe, my current monitor just got confused by the forcibly upscaled 1080p signal from the amp. The monitors just blinked between a 'corrupted' grayish colour and a full blank screen.
Now my question is, could that be because of something else (as in, it won't work with a 1080p monitor either) or was it just my monitor's limitations that made it not work that time?
Thank you for reading and your possible input on this.

Hi Everyone,

This is a strange and baffling problem. I&#8217;m not a complete novice and spent a lot time and tried many different things trying to solve it on my own, but nothing worked. Please bear with me as I&#8217;ll do my best to describe the situation.

Some time ago, I decided to build a budget pc to serve mainly as an HTPC of sorts. The idea was to spend the bare minimum initially and then upgrade the system as I go along. I therefore opted for a mobo that has (what I thought was) decent onboard graphics and HDMI output (ASUS M4A78LT-M) so that I could hook it up directly to my TV (Toshiba Regsa). As I mostly work on my laptop, I don&#8217;t have a computer screen (and no real reason to buy one).

Here are the system&#8217;s specs:
Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0Ghz
CPU cooler: Stock
RAM: 4GB (2 X Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600; 3.25GB usable)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500GB
ODD: Pioneer DVR-A18LBK</SPAN>
OS: Windows 7 Professional (32bit, SP1)
From the start the video outputs gave me a headache. Working with the VGA connection, I was trying to install Windows XP on the machine, but the screen kept going blank after POST and giving the onscreen message &#8220;&#8220;unsupported video format&#8221;. I almost gave up thinking it was a compatibility issue with my TV or that the modo was DOA, but then I tried to install Windows 7 and suddenly everything worked fine. After installing the OS, I updated the bios to t... Read more

Hello all!

I have a Lenovo X200 Tablet with the Ultrabase, fully spec'd, and was tinkering around with what I could do to use my Samsung HP-T5054 Plasma 50" as an external monitor and speaker set. Let me know if you need more hardware spec.

I have two current options for getting the signal from my laptop to the TV; both have the same issue:

The first is a converter straight from the DP (Display Port) to HDMI 1.3, from which an HDMI 1.3 cable carries the video signal to the TV's HDMI-1 port. For this version, and possibly even in today's market, DisplayPort (DP) does not stream audio with its video signal, so I paired it with a stereo 1/8" jack line from the laptop and attached it to the R/L (Red/White) IN paired with the HDMI-1 Input on the TV. The video, after tinkering, came in at the proper resolution and clear as a bell. The audio, however, did not come in at all. The TV received no audio, and yet the video was clear. At this point, it seemed like the video signal was transferring some sort of audio carrier, or was telling the HDMI to send a positive audio data track that said "Hey, audio's on the way", with no actual audio on the way, which must have convinced the TV to not accept the available Analog R/L in.

Knowing this, and knowing that if I detached the 1/8" from my laptop I would hear the internal speakers unmute (this implies that audio is indeed going out when the line is attached), I sought a Mac to address whether... Read more

A:Solved: Connecting my ATI 5870 to monitor with HDMI

Try booting up in Windows safe mode by first restarting the computer and tapping the F8 function key right away. Hopefully you will get a usable display showing boot choices. Pick safe mode and let the boot complete. You should still have a usable display but it may be at a real low resolution.

Right click on an unused area of the desktop and you should get a pop-up menu. One of the choices should be "Screen Resolution" (at least it is on my Compaq desktop PC). Select it.

You should then be able to adjust the settings to match the specifications of your display. You should also be able to test any of the settings without worrying about the monitor losing signal. Windows will output the new resolution and show a text box with a button that lets you confirm you want to use the new settings. If you don't do anything, Windows will go back to the old settings in 15 seconds.

EDIT: If you still have a problem, please post the exact brand and model number of the Video Controller card that uses the ATI Radeon 5870 chip.

Hi all

I hope I've chosen the right forum area to post this to - please let me know if I haven't.

I'd like to be able to utilise our Panasonic 42" plasma as our Dell PC's monitor both for audio and video and upon suggestions received from friends have recently purchased a 10m HDMI cable to connect them as they're in different rooms. In addition, I also purchased a switcher that has two ports because we currently connect our Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-XW380) to the television via HDMI but unfortunately the television and DVD Recorder only have one HDMI port each (ie nothing spare for PC also).

So yesterday I connected the cable to the PC HDMI port and then directly to the TV HDMI port just to test them on their own, but had no success. I altered the PC's monitor output to Digital TV (and then the second time around tried it as dual output) and then on the TV selected the input method as PC (perhaps I should have chosen HDMI?) but the TV screen was blank whereas I assumed I would see the PC's desktop on the TV. I also altered the resolution on the PC's monitor to 1024x768 (from 1920x1080) which from what I understand I also needed to do?

Anyway, the upshot of it all is that I have no idea what I'm doing ( clearly ) and would be really grateful for some help/pointers as to where I go from here and what I should be doing differently.

Thanks heaps in advance,

Sue

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows 8 (see below)

For months, I have used HDMI to connect to my Vizio TV .

Suddenly, the connection began giving e problems. I tried playing with the setting, setting the monitor selection to the TV. Now, when I connect the HDMI cable, both the tv says 'no connection' and the laptop screen is black.

The option I used to change the settings is gone.

Someone suggested connecting the HDMI cable and trying to detect the tv, but the laptop screen is black! I can't do anything while the HDMI is connected.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Okay so I have been using VGA for a long time. I got a second monitor today and it uses the old VGA cable. So I hooked it up with the VGA and it looks fine. I then plugged an HDMI cable into my PC and first monitor. Everything seems like its worse quality. Colors are brighter or darker than before and the text is blurry. This is only with HDMI and it was fine with VGA. This is a 19" TV but I have been using it for a couple years now without trouble as a monitor. Some letters on the screen are also for some reason outlined in yellow. I'm not super tech savvy so please try to keep it as simple as you can. Thank you for the help!

Hello, I just purchased a Dell computer at the unbelievable price of 400 dollars (quad core 2.4 GHz) and I also bought 2 HDMI 22' monitors. The video card in the Dell computer is built in, so I know I need a new one for the 2 monitors to work. Which video card should I use to take advantage of the High Def of both? I dont wanna spend a lot of money. Thank you for your help!

A:Solved: Which Video Card for Dual HDMI monitor

I have a GeForce 8600GT with 512 MB of memory. I've tried plenty of video cards of a lesser power than that and they all worked...sort of. Little glitches and problems seemed to always pop up though and it just wasn't a perfect experience on a dual monitor setup (one 1680x1050 and one 1920x1080) until I hit the 8600GT. Since then, its been butter all the way.

So something on a par with the 8600GT should serve you well. Some of the new ATI cards are supposed to be very good also. You probably want to look for a dual DVI port card (if the monitors have DVI of course) and use that connection and save the HDMI ports for an upscaling DVD player or somesuch. Going from dual DVI to HDMI might work or it might cause some scaling problems.

I am working on an issue and have limited access to the PC so I'm trying to get a series of possible fixes lined up.

My issue: The client has a Dell PC (dual monitor) with onboard VGA and a DisplayPort connection. The DisplayPort uses a DVI adapter that feeds the 2nd display. When she is out of the office and uses remote desktop to access the PC, of course it switches to 1 monitor. When she comes back in the office, only the VGA monitor comes on. She has to go in the display settings in control panel and re-enable it for it to kick on (Sometimes this doesn't even work until you reboot).

The drivers (and Dell) say its an Intel Q43/45 graphics controller, but when I try to install the new drivers, I get a "PC does not meet requirements" error.

Ideas? Questions?

let me explain

in my family's house we have two desktops (cable connection) and two laptops (wireless connection)

the connection with the internet has always been fine until 2 months ago our family went on holidays for 2 months and we came back and i figured out that the internet connection on 1 of the main desktop we use no longer working, however on all of the other 3 computers we have the internet is fine with no problems at all.

the main desktop's connection would sometimes work however most of the times it doesn't work, even when it does work it would only be for a short period of time of around 1 hour then it would go into dead mode again and unable to connect.

i have tryed to reset the modern and router many times, i also been in the connection status to disable the connection as well as turning off the router and modern for the whole night then reswitch it back on and still the problem still occurs.

i would like to know if anyone has any ideas what the problem might be and how to solve it if possible, if there are any steps by steps instruction that anyone has, please may you put it down.

notice: All of my other 3 computers' connections are totally fine and i tryed changing the cable before which didn't solve the problem.
i even rebooted my whole comp before and did not help the situation.

anything that might be able to help please post, thanks

I have an HP desktop with an ASUS VS197 montior connected with VGA cable. I have an NVIDI GeForce GTX 745 graphics card.

I have a BENQ projector connected with HDMI cable.

All has been running perfectly for 3 months.

The setting has been set on "duplicate screen".

Yesterday, rather than turn off the projector's power as normal I simply clicked windows-P and selected "PC screen only"

My monitor immediately went black and said "VGA no signal".

Since then I can use the computer as normal when the HDMI cable is not connected but as soon as I connect the HDMI cable I get a black screen on my monitor. The screen shows on the projector as expected but the monitor screen is black.

My monitor only works when the HDMI cable to the projector is unplugged from the back of the desktop.

I have no idea how to get both screen working again,

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

My windows computer is connected to two ISPs. I've changed priorities in order to make one of the connections my main one (network connections - advanced - advanced settings - and here I chose the one I wanted). The problem is that it simply isn't working. The computer is still set to be using the other connection.
If I try route print, the metrics of the connection I'd like to be the main one is 276, whereas the other, which the computer is still using now, is 266. Which I take it to mean that changing the priorities from the aforementioned menu simply isn't working. Any ideas how I can make the change stick?

Thank you.

A:set network connection priority

The easy way to do it is get a router with Dual Wan.

If you still want to play with the Metric setting I would spread them out farther say give one card a metric of 5 and the other a metric of 700

My desktop was working fine up until 3 weeks ago, when I was simply surfing on Yahoo! and it decided to freeze up on me. I waited for a few minutes to see if it would get back to normal, but it was just a cold freeze. I couldn't do anything, and was forced to restart by pushing the power button. After it restarted, the freezes came every few minutes for every time I restarted it.

The week after that I monitored my desktop to see it would freeze up like before, but would only get the occasional freeze-up every now and then. I decided to give it a break up until today when I decided to start it up. However, this time, my monitor just showed completely black as if the desktop was never switched on. The cables are all secured and I can hear the hard drive running when I turn the desktop on.

My friend seems to think that it could be the memory or the memory slot that is causing the problem.

Also, the last major thing I remembered doing on my desktop was updating my graphics card and motherboard. I was occasionally getting a blue screen that indicated that there was a device driver stuck in an infinite loop in relation to nv4_disp. I figured that the updates would solve the problem, and I think it did. I never got the blue screen after that.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello, can you help please, my reliability monitor is not working, it runs as per the schedule but does not produce any data, my problems started recently following a small corruption with the library docs, this corruption caused the R/monitor to run continuously, I rectified this error with a library scan, all is good there, I then ran the reliability reset batch file which reset the monitor back to zero. However when the monitor runs it does not produce the required files that live in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\RAC folder under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\RAC\PublishedData and C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\RAC\StateData, these 2 folders are empty. I saved the original files however if I return the files to the 2 folders the reliability monitor does not access them. I have attached 2 x prints one of my RAC registry and RAC WMI.
I have also attached prints of my Task Scheduler Conditions, Settings and Triggers. I have searched high and low for a solution to fix this issue, I do not want to run a Windows refresh as I have numerous installed programs that I would have to reinstall. Hope you can help, please let me know if you require any further info, Many Thanks
Note: Do you think an update to 8.1 may fix this issue. We are due for release in Australia on the 17th Oct.

When I make a remote desktop connection to my PC at work using Citrix, the screen appears small on my home PC monitor. It's basically a square box in the middle of the screen surrounded by a thick gray border on the left and right sides.

I was told that there is a way to get it to fill up my entire monitor by opening the remote desktop connection window, closing it, then re-opening it, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I am probably doing something wrong.

I am using Windows 7 and when I go into the Remote Desktop Connection options, the Remote Desktop Size under the Display settings is set to full screen.

Can anyone please tell me how to get the RDC window to fill in my monitor's entire screen?

Hi,

I have an HP dv6500 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (HDMI output). I just bought a philips 8404 LCD TV.
When I try to connect the laptop to the LCD, nothing happens. I can't get any video displayed on the TV.
I know that both the cable and the TV HDMI port are fine beacuse when connected to the XBOX they work without a problem.
I can see the TV on the NVIDIA control panel, it is recognized as "Philips FTV", but when set to dual display nothing happens, and when set to use the philips tv only, the laptop screen goes black (as it should), but nothing on the TV.

I have the TV for few days now, weird thing is that one time (and one time only) I did manage to see the computer on the TV via the HDMI cable. I didn't do anything special - just clicked Fn F4 and it was there. but it only worked one time and I can't get it to work again (but at least I know the HDMI port on the laptop is also fine). When I connect the cable to the TV I do hear the "windows new item detected" sound on the computer, so there is a connection but no picture at all.

I tried re-installing the NVIDIA drivers but nothing helps.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated...I waited for an HDTV for a long time and now I finally have it but without the PC link it's rather futile

I have a strange feeling that re-installing windows7 would solve it (as it does for most things ), but I'm trying to avoid this annoying lengthy process...

Cheers,
Idan

Drivers can be found here http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=A42F&os=17

Select your operating system from the drop down menu and download and run all the necessary drivers. (for your sound issue this is chipset drivers then the latest audio driver.)

What operating system was on before?

Go to control panel --> device manager
Do you see anything with a ! next to it?

Hello ladies and gents.

I have three different wireless networks I can connect to, but the one Windows connects to first by default is not my first choice. I'd like to reorder the connection priority.

Problem is, as you can see, no networks show up in my manage networks control panel! It clear as day shows that there are five choices, but, does not list them for me to prioritize! Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing that will make the networks visible?

Thanks as always for looking!

Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

I'm trying to remote into my computer, but for some reason I can't, and I have no idea why. I can't remote into the computer, nor can I remote out to another computer. Both computers are sitting within a foot of each other.

I've enabled RDC.
I've checked the firewall; I even added a new case for the RDC program just in case.
I can successfully ping either way.
Both computers are connected to the same network, but there are no workgroups.
Network and sharing allows the computers to see each other.
I've tried using the computer name and the LAN: neither worked.

It doesn't work with the firewall off either.

I just noticed this yesterday and I believe it is what has been giving me computer problems for the past few days.

So what I've spotted is in Task Manger that about 30 regularly running programs that normally start in Normal priority are now starting in High priority. I'm running Windows XP Pro. I've rebooted, check the msconfig to see if anything looks out of place, I've ran ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and did some registry cleanup with Glary Utitlities. Nothing has fixed this issue.

My computer has been sluggish and had a few problems with IE just freezing the computer up when it was working on something. Other programs have done this too at different times resulting in my only choice to restart the computer or try waiting out the issue and force quit the offending program. As an aside I don't regularly use IE. I use Firefox or Google Chrome but jump into IE for specific websites that require it.

I haven't installed anything that is sketchy or should have changed this start up behavior.

Any idea on how these programs are starting in high priority and what I can do about it? I just loaded HijackThis on the system and it started in High priority. Maybe I'm just off my rocker, but I could swear these programs were starting in Normal priority.

Here is a quick list of running processes that are in high priority.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

Even stuff like notepad starts as a high priority. Almost all programs do, but some do not. For example, when I open WinAmp, it starts as a normal priority.

Hi,
I am trying to make it so that Windows 7 will automatically prefer a wired internet connection over wireless when I connect an ethernet cable to my computer.

I was able to follow the instructions here:

How To Change The Network Adapter Priority In Windows 7 | LNN: Levy News Network

But it looks like after some period of time, Windows resets the order of preference of my connections to what it was before. Is there some fix for this issue?

Thank you

A:Windows 7 resets priority of Wireless over Ethernet Connection

What are the speeds of the wired and wireless connection? Windows should use the one with the most amount of possible bandwidth. Normally this is wired however if you are using newer wireless standards then it may prefer that.

Many thanks,

We've got some naughty vista machines on our hand...

The machine has two NICs, both of which are connected to the Internet in the following fashion:

route 1: NIC 1 -- Internet (preferred Internet connection)
route 2: NIC 2 -- Switch -- Linux Cluster -- Internet (preferred LAN connection)
|-------(Printer, NAS, etc)

The linux cluster is consisted of some RedHat workstations, all of which are connected to the internet independently, but one of them (the frontend) also distribute IP and does NAT for the LAN. Also connected to the switch include some network resources, and this Vista machine.

Long story short, in the Vista machine, the route 2 is somehow always preferred by Vista to behaves as default connection. I changed the Interface metric for the NIC 2 to be 100 and NIC 1 to be 10, as well as moved NIC 1 to the top of Connections list in "Advanced Settings" in "Network Connections".

I can connect to the Internet no problem either way, but the problem comes when some softwares such as Matlab requires network license, which is by IP, which I assigned statically to NIC 1.

NIC 2 is currently set as obtain IP from DHCP, but it's really a static IP as the DHCP server (aka the cluster frontend) assigns IP based on MAC. NIC 2 also received default gateway. If I statically assign the IP and not input the default gateway, then NIC 1 is automatically preferred. But that's also problematic because then the network becomes "Unid... Read more
