Q: Sound stuttering/lagging problem, Toshiba satellite

Hey guys.

My laptop is a TOSHIBA Satellite L775 (Windows 7) and for quite a while now Iíve been having Ďstutteringí problems with the sound. If Iím watching a youtube video (or listening to music files on my hard drive) occasionally the sound lags. It wasnít too much of a problem at first but itís happening quite often now and is incredibly annoying/worrying.

Iíve checked out a lot of forums and questions online regarding similar problems, so far I have disabled and replaced my sound driver (although there are like 5 NVIDIA sound drivers I did not have the option to uninstall), disabled a few programs/services using the msconfig (although I donít think its related to the processor or processes, my laptop has 4GB of RAM and an intel i5 processor, Iíve ran pretty intensive games on it in the past with no problems so canít see it lagging over music).

I tried downloading a new Ďatherosí network driver, I didnít uninstall the current one as Iím in the middle of revision and donít want to cut myself off from the internet by mistake. I simply downloaded the replacement driver and ran the install wizard for it, the problem still wasnít fixed.

It might be worth nothing that after I disabled a few programs to see if it was the RAM that the problem seemed to get worse, with massive hangs in the audio. The first time I remember seeing this was almost a year ago, I was playing Crysis 2 and the game/sound crashed. Occasionally after this the stuttering would occur whilst listening to music, and itís got progressively worse since. Not sure if the problems are related at all, but that's the first time I noticed a problem like this.

Strangely when watching tv shows or movies (on VLC) the computer doesnít seem to stutter, this could be because Iíve just never seen it happen, but Iím pretty sure it doesnít happen.
I do not think itís the browser or a youtube problem because it happens when videos are buffered ahead of the current position, and like I said it happens on music files on the computer.

Just now I had a bit of a breakthrough, I disabled the wireless and played a few songs and it didnít stutter once. So I uninstalled the Atheros network driver fully and then reinstalled it (someone on a forum said it was a new fix, although the driver was a year old and was the same version as the one I removed). I was hopeful but got greeted by the biggest stutter yet when I played a songÖ There is another network driver I havenít tried disabling (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller), so maybe that is a problem, unless my Atheros driver is the problem and just immediately screwed up again? There is also a virtualbox host-only Ethernet adapter but I disabled it as well in case. No luck.

Iím now out of ideasÖ Sorry for the long winded post but I want to give as much information as possible to help you guys help me!

Thanks for reading!

Hi, i just got a new pc and im having sound problems; basically every so often the sound sort of lags out and goes stuttery for about 1 to 5 seconds then resumes as normal. On the performance monitor cpu usage spikes up to 50-60% for the duration.

-Using logitech Z-10 speakers, got the latest drivers, and the problem occurs when im using different speakers also

-Running vistax64 on a pretty high-end pc, so really i shouldnt be running out of resources just to play sound.

-Bought a sound card, hoping to fix the problem, but its the same whether i use onboard sound or the card.

-The problem occurs in all applications, not just WM player

I think the problem is some kind of issue with data transfer and processing within the pc (whether its hard or software based i dont know). It appears to be only sound that displays lag/slowdown symptoms.

I tried sticking some music onto a flash drive and playing it from there, but again it stuttered so im guessing its not a hard drive issue.

Im really running out of ideas, so any help would be vastly appreciated

A:Stuttering/Lagging sound

Sounds like a driver issue. What sound card and what on-board audio program are you using? There have been issues with Vista and or 64bit.

Hey there. I'm not sure what the problem is, but since yesterday, my laptop's sound & video keeps lagging..the whole time.

Yesterday i was djing on the laptop through a mixer..and then the sound disorted, like the speaker had been blown..if it's blown would it still be playing audio though? and could that be the reason for the lagging/stuttering? (that it's blown maybe)

here's a video of what i mean (since it would be a lot easier to explain)

Check your audio out cable. does it still sound distorted when you unplug the cable and use the laptop speakers?

Hi, Folks - I'm New, here...

I recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite P105 pre-loaded with Vista.

We use a proprietary system at work that connects through a VPN and our server would not acknowledge Vista, so I immediately re-formatted and loaded XP Pro.

I managed to get all of my drivers for every device except sound. The PC has a Toshiba V92 modem connected to a high-def audio bus with Harmon Kardon speakers.

I can't seem to find the correct drivers for my sound.

Anyone else experienced this? Any help in solving my delimma?

I've spent hours at Toshiba's support site.

Dave

A:Sound Problem- Toshiba Satellite

Hi, Dave, and welcome to TSF!

Have you tried using a generic driver? Go into device manager and see if your audio chipset shows up there with a yellow ! next to it. If it does, run the add new hardware wizard and have it select a driver for it automatically.

I have moved you to Windows XP support.

My google phone in google email says it cannot detect a proper working audio setup but the sound throughout the rest of the computer works just fine. One day it was fine and when I went back to it the next day my sound on the phone had disappeared for no reason I can find. It tells me to ensure that my microphone is working properly and try again. The phone sound in my Skype doesn't work either but the sound is fine everywhere but in the phones...If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

This is my first post here, my tech buddy couldnt help me with this one so here goes...

i had problems with the virtual sound program that came with my laptop when i first got it and uninstalled it, then reinstalled it from a website assuming that the HD wow SRS program download would be the same, i guess it wasnt exactly the same.

it would come up once, so i could tweak my listening experience then disappear into thin air, it would be in 'Add or Remove' files but nowhere else.

so decided to download it again, from a different site this time, downloaded it, but this time it told me to restart computer to kick it in, didnt have to do that b4.

when i reloaded my satellite laptop this HORRIFIC sound came out of my speakers and wouldnt stop, it sounded from the depths of driver gone wrong hell, so i uninstalled it, rebooted and it was gone but NOW my windows media player does not play ANYTHING and goes "Sorry for the inconvienence but Windows explorer must close".

what gives ??????????????????????

oh by the way i had to take it in 2 weeks ago for fixing because the motherboard quit, warranty people replaced it, boo urns.

Hi,

I upgraded my laptop from win 98 to win 2000 pro. I used a new HD and installed also a DVD burner. Originally the machine came with Win 98 and a DVD reader. Since the upgrade, sound crackles when booting up and also when playing a DVD. I tried the old 98 HD with the new DVD burner and it works fine. It seems to do with the the sound driver. I have uninstalled and re installed the sound driver several times but no change. I am on SP 3. I tried changing the Page file and that makes the machine simply reboot when a DVD is inserted. I have enabled DMA as well.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hey guys and girls,

I have a toshiba satellite 1905-s301 laptop running windows xp home edition. Starting 2 weeks ago, i lost the sound. I tried to go to the volume control pad but the laptop sayd that there is was no selected audio device. I did some investigating and i found that my sound device (Crystal WDM audio codec)had an error next to it(device could not start, code 10). Soon after, i started getting the blue screen with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message. I went to the toshiba website and downloaded the updated driver. Installed it and nothing.
So i said screw it and had my buddy reformat the laptop with the toshiba recovery cds. Laptop is back to day 1 settings and still the same issue. So i disabled the sound device (Crystal WDM audio codec) and i have been able to use my computer without having constant shutdowns. I get an occasional blue screen (once every 2 days and usually while opening a new webpage) but not the same message...next time it comes up i will post up the message.

I have run mcafee that i get from aol, adaware, reg run and winpatrol and i got rid of lots of viruses and spyware but still hasnt fixed the issue. What should i do?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you for your help,

T

If you have a CD with sound card drivers use that to install the drivers.

If you don`t look HERE You have to know the model of your Satellite

I have a Toshiba Satellite P105 S6157 laptop running windows Vista Home Premium (I know Vista sucks, but oh well)

I have no sound now on the laptop. I made sure all the sound was NOT muted. I removed and reinstalled the sound driver and I still have no sound either on the internal laptop speakers or on external computer speakers hooked to the laptop.

In my search to try and resolve this problem I read something about an update from Microsoft for Vista that had caused others to loose sound on their computers. When I tried to find this again I could not locate what I had been reading.

The laptop is just over 2 years old and has beed running great till this happened

Device Manager is showing: Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2 as the item under Sound, video and game controller.

Any help on this problem would greatly be appreciated so I can get this unit back to the lady who is using it. Thanks.

This Toshiba Satellite L505D-LS5005 seems to be an adequate laptop, but it suddenly has no usb or audio. Device manager shows a realtek high definition audio controller with the yellow symbol, but no usb controller. I've reinstalled the sound driver from both the Toshiba support site and from Realtek site, does not help, if I hover the mouse over the audio icon in the task bar it says "no audio output device is installed. I've reinstalled win 7 and all the drivers from the Toshiba site. There are many complaints about this in the moderated Toshiba support forum but no solutions http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Audio-Sound/no-sound-usb-on-satellite-l505d-gs6000/td-p/172564/page/9

My gut feeling is it is a problem with the AMD processor. Does anyone have any idea?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager under the Sound Category?

If you had a Realtek chipset it would most likely be a HD codec. You can download it here. Pick either 32bit or 64bit. If there are no devices listed under Sound in Device Manager it may not install.

There is also a troubleshooter in Control Panel under System and Security named Find and Fix Problems. Check the Sound Playback troubleshooter.

I got a RAM upgrade for my laptop 2 weeks ago. I got 2 Kingston 2GB RAM sticks. A few hours after installing the RAM, my laptop would begin to crash after restarting, sometimes as soon as 5 seconds upon startup. After some trial and error, I found that one of the sticks was faulty and sent it back. The next day, my audio died suddenly while in use, but worked after restarting the laptop. This happened again the next 2 days. The fourth day, the audio outright died. The most I got was a low thumping upon startup. I tried updating my drivers and the only thing that "upgraded" was the fact that now I got a constant high-pitched noise through my speakers. It was constant and continued even after plugging in headphone and muting the volume. The only way I found to stop it was to disable the High Definition Audio Controller, though I have to "enable" then "disable" it whenever I power on my laptop.
The only other problem with my laptop lately is I seem to have a slight lag online (skipping youtube videos and such). I have connected my latop online on multiple servers, so I know it is coming from my laptop. I don't know if my soundcard/chip/whatever I have inside is fried, burnt or loose as I'm more of a software person then hardware.

I have a Toshiba satellite L655-S5150 and i have all the cables that the guys at best buy told me to get. I hooked them up but i still cant hear any sound. A:cant hear any sound when i hook my toshiba satellite up to my tv

Apparently you do not have an HDMI interface, since you are connecting sound separately. First thing to do is check the connections to the TV (assuming you have the right cables) and then the setup for the TV for the inputs you have connected.

Exactly what did you get from Best Buy?

I've just tried a fresh install of Windows XP as well as Ubuntu Linux on this laptop. The drivers appear to be correctly installed in Windows (I downloaded the latests drivers from Toshiba's website) and show no alerts or conflicts in the Device Manager. The soundcard itself is a Realtek AC97.

What are some other possible causes of there being no sound coming from the speakers on this laptop?

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I've recently built a new computer with the following specs:

Asus P7P55D-E Pro Mobo
8 GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM (Corsair)
Sapphire Radeon 5850 GPU
Intel i7 860 2.8Ghz Quad Core CPU
500W Modular OCZ Power Supply
Win 7 64 Bit OS

I've also got various case fans, CD/DVD drive, etc...

I've had a big problem lately (and getting progressively worse) with a strange stutter to every action. My mouse stutters, my music stutters - even games stutter - it starts to go, hesitates, and then jumps to where you were going.

I have a core monitor set up and when it stutters, one of my cores (4 literal - 8 virtual) spikes to high usage for whatever reason - but only one core - the rest are barely used.

I've checked drivers. I've checked hardware as best I can, but I'm not really sure what's going on. I've fixed lots of computers in my day, but I'm somewhat stumped as to this one. I've never run into this problem before.

I've checked for virus, malware, spyware, etc. - it's all clean (it's only a few weeks old!) Any input as to potential causes would be most useful!

Hi -

Boot into SAFEMODE w/ Networking -- same results?

Use Resource Monitor to see what app is responsible for CPU spike -

Click on CPU tab; then CPU column to sort in descending CPU usage order

Check 3rd party drivers out. Run the Driver Verifier --> http://jcgriff2.com/driver_verifier.htm

If Driver Verifier flags a 3rd party driver it will BSOD your system.

I built a new system 3 months ago running Windows 8.1. For the past 2 weeks my system has been having major lag issues.
For example - when I play a video in VLC and go onto do another task at the same time like downloading (Files written to temp)
or watch a video on youtube it causes the video and audio to become choppy.

My system will then begin lagging and stuttering to the point it becomes unusable. If i do another task directly after e.g. playing music iTunes or watch a YouTube video.
It will begin to shutter again and lag even more leaving me no choice but to hard restart.

There is no bottleneck on the CPU/Ram even when this is happening. Anyone know what could be the cause for this?

I just purchased the above the other day.

I chat regularly to someone in America using various chat clients (yahoo, aim, msn etc).

On my ancient Sony Vaio this wasn't a problem. However on this laptop, with a vastly superior specification, the sound at their end is awful. It apparently skips and the volume fluctuates.= and generally sounds awful.

I tried sound recording on it and got the same results.

I'm using a Plantronics headset rather than the internal mic, (don't know if this makes a difference).

Not being that computer literate myself, is there a conflict between the external mic and the built in mic or can anyone shed any other light on this matter.

Any help would be vastly appreciated because I purchased this laptop simply to upgrade and carry on voice chatting

A:Toshiba Satellite C650-1CT. Sound recording/voice chat issues

Hi

In the sound settings, you will find 2 mic volumes, one the internal and external if the external mic is only plugged in, so what you do is to mute one and use the other.

Hope this helps !!

So, recently, something like 4 days ago i spilled juice on my laptop. I had it cleaned right away and i was told it should be ok.

Recently, however, i've had problems playing any video. Whenever i play a video (with bsplayer or windows media player. it happens in vlc too, but to a much lesser extent: freezes that leave the image broken for 0.5 seconds ) it will work fine for a couple of minutes then start to stutter, freezing up for 2 or 3 seconds then skipping ahead, with the audio playing normally.
However, when i try to store the same video on an usb drive and play it from there, the issue doesn't seem to happen (or at least from what i've seen; i haven't let it run more than 30 min, could happen there also but slower).

My first idea was that this was a hard drive issue, but after running some programs to test the hard drive, they all pointed out no problems. I had a friend who works in tech support tell me (after i briefly explained the issues) that it might be a motherboard issue, but i don't see how that can be the case seeing as the videos run fine from usb for the most part. He suggested trying to reinstall windows. Is that a good idea?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try restoring the system to an earlier date before the onset of this behaviour.

So I'm at my wits end on this one. I've searched high and low on just about every forum for a fix to this.

My PC seems to stutter and lag during any kind of network traffic to my PC. At first I thought it was just happening when I was watching Youtube vids or downloading torrents but sitting there with nothing running and a simple message through skype will trigger it too. Just did a re-install of windows and it's still happening, which is making me lose my mind.
Restarting Windows fixes it temporarily but within 1-2 hours the problem begins coming back, it's small at first but gets increadibly bad later. Leaving my pc running all night, by next morning watching youtube vids is pretty much in slow motion with long drawn out stuttery sound.
Disabling the wireless adaptor actually stops it all, I can start watching a youtube vid and halfway through it lagging and sputtering along if I disable the adaptor it instantly plays normal, until it gets through everything it buffered.

Heres a breakdown of everything I've tried thus far to fix it.

-Updated Windows
-Updated graphics driver
-Updated sound driver
-Updated wireless drivers
-Disabled wifi card and used a USB adaptor instead
-Disabled my page file
-Disabled event log
-Tried a different browser
-Restarting modem

and finally the last thing I tried:
-Re-installed Windows 10 as a fresh install on a brand new SSD

There may have been a few other things I tried to in there but cannot remember.
If anyone has had something simil... Read more

Hi Vedegris and welcome to Ten Forums!

Since you've done so much work already, possibility to solve your problem here looks not very high to me.
First of all - I have no idea, but if I would be in your place there are few things that I would do: when the problem occurs
- check in task manager (or ProcessExplorer from Sysinternals) if there is CPU high load and which program causes it,
- do the same for possible memory leak
- try with wired network
- reset you BIOS

I'm sure you've done all the search for possible problems of your motherboard and graphic card.

Hi everyone. So my audio is stuttering every minute or so. It runs fine and then on random intervals it stutters for a second and then carrys on like normal. Its getting a bit annoying, I have only recently done a fresh install and re installed drivers. Only a month ago my RAM was faulty I did a memtest and I sent it back and got replacement. That issue is fine now. Now its just this audio..

So I've disabled all sound devices except the one that works. Closed any THX programs or anything like that. set my speakers to headphones and still no change. It happens with videos and games, everything really. I don't notice a stutter in the video side of things.

Any help would be much appreciated! DXDiag attached.

I've recently installed a Gamesurround Hercules Fortissimo 2 sound card to solve my stuttering problem, but it's made no difference. Basically, as i play games the sound will stutter at the same time there is a graphic slowdown, only very brief but annoying.

My system is a fairly high spec (512 DDR, AMD XP 2600, Geforce4 Ti4800SE) so i'm thinking that i should not have these kinds of problems. Can someone please help?

I am not able to find any event legs showing conflicts, failures anywhere around the time I notice my sound has stopped working, making it that much more difficult to resolve. As of right now I can reboot and sound will come back for an unknown length of time. Sometimes a few days to a few hours. Since I haven't been able to point to something causing this to try and figure it out myself, I'm not sure what additional information I can provide to get help in return, so ask and I will provide what I can. Thanks.

I was messing around with some audio configurations the other night, basically trying to get things to sound 'louder'. Anyway, whatever I did I guess has made audio just about unlistenable. I don't want to fully restore my computer but is there a way I could just restore the audio settings? I think I've restored most settings for the audio but maybe I'm missing something.

I have a Lenovo laptop with "Realtek High Definition Audio" for the playback.

**edit: Seems to only be happening through iTunes! Just blasted some music through Youtube and the audio was fine.

A:Crackling, skipping, stuttering, lagging audio

Well, I searched around and it seems to be an issue with making sure the sound playback is at the same sampling rate as iTunes. So far so good. If anybody has the same issue I recommend making sure your iTunes sampling rate is at the same rate as the playback device settings.

After my computer is left on for a period of time (anywhere from a few hours to a day or two), it starts lagging and stuttering. A "spike of lag" occurs every few seconds, temporarily freezing the system (typing/mouse movement is affected, sound isn't). It can't be a RAM issue because I have 16GB of RAM and task manager shows that only 50% of my memory is being used. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Rebooting solves the issue immediately but it is a pain to reboot all the time.

A:System stuttering and lagging after long uptime

You state that 50% of 16 gigs of ram is being used. That is a very large amount of ram being used.

You can look in Task Manager and see if you can see what is using all the ram.

You could also go into msconfig/Startup and see what programs are starting at boot and running in the background that do need to start at boot.

When you ram is being 50 % used could you post a picture like this.

When playing any game or watching any video (on hard drive, dvd or streaming) or playing any game (2d simple, 3d intensive) my computer gets lag spikes and stutters, the sound kind of freezes every time it pauses.

My graphics card drivers are up to date and I have no idea what to do.

Hello all. This is my first post and may I say that I have enjoyed reading the other posts and replies. My problem is this: I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 laptop that is still under warrenty until January, 2005. For the last week or so, the fan has been making noise like the blades are hitting against something. I realize that this indicates that the fan is going out. I called Toshiba and they said I could send it in to them and they would replace it. Or I could take it to an authorized Toshiba repair center. Herein lies the problem. There are no authorized repair centers within a 100 mile radius of me (per the Toshiba representative) and I am not comfortable sending my laptop in as it has sensitive information concerning my job on it. I asked if he could just send me a new fan and I would replace it and you can guess what his response to that was. He said it would void my warrenty. I told him I didn't care if he would just send the fan. No dice. I have searched everywhere I can think of for a Toshiba fan and I cannot locate one. These are the numbers off of the current fan: 3910A; MCFTS6512M05; GDM610000126. If anyone has any idea where I can get this part I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Yes, I realize that this will void my warrenty, and like I told Toshiba, I don't care. I have too much information on this laptop to lose it because of a heat problem. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hi, please help,
While sat using the laptop the other night i suddenly had a yellow box appear in the bottom right corner telling me that the USB device could not be recognised. At the time there was no device plugged into any of the ports. I tried to troubleshoot to see what was going on but nothing got resolved so i rebooted. Still happened after restart still with nothing plugged in.
I have tried everything i know to resolve this problem. Checked device manager, all 3 usb devices are saying that they are working correctly and there are no red or yellow marks next to them. I have uninstalled them and rebooted, same problem. Now none of the 3 ports will work at all. Tried various devices in each of them and nothing except for residule power that will turn power lights on if the device has one.
Not sure if this is linked but tried to enter bios just to check settings but what i know to be my password no longer works. I HAVE NOT changed it and nobody else has access to have altered it either. I have tried backdoor passwords and they wont let me in either.
Please help, this is driving me nuts.

My friend and I have the same computer. He's running XP Pro I have XP Home, but besides that same processors, HD, etc. His is having serious running problems. His major difference is that he runs AOL and all their junk, as well as their provided Virus Software, but this should not be slowing his computer soo much compared to mine.

His OE works every other time you try, (very suspicious) his wireless connection says "good" when it's sitting next to the modem, programs and folders and there then gone again. His Virus Software from AOL (McAfee?) doesn't seem to be working (big clue.)

I've just loaded and run AVP Free virus software and Spybot and haven't found any noticible viruses, spyware, but it seems as if there is something in there running background, hidden stuff that is using up his processor and connection access, when no software is reported to be running. It freezes a lot. He has 75% of his HD available & 1 GB RAM. We also just did a clean up and defragment. The clean-up doesn't seem to delete all the temp folder files - is that normal?

Could someone please take a look at this hijack file and let meknow if you see anything telling? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, sbrenusa

A:Toshiba Satellite problem..

If you have or can get hold of a boot disk (Hiren's, UBCD, any live Linux distro or even a Windows install disk) you could try booting from it, to check whether it's a hardware failure (HDD could have failed or got disconnected) - assuming it's set up to boot from CD/DVD. Is it definitely F2 for setup? Some Satellites require holding Esc on start, then F1 when you get the Toshiba screen.

Model A35-S159. After installing a new battery, and getting a new power supply, sometimes, but not always, the battery discharges while on AC. The AC light stays on while the battery discharges. The battery always recharges when I turn the laptop off.

Sometimes I can turn it on and it won't discharge while on AC. Other times I turn it on and it immediately starts discharging. I can tell because the orange/green charge light doesn't come on. And still other times, it will stay at 100% charged on AC, and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, the charge light goes off and it starts discharging.

Any ideas would be appreciated

A:Toshiba Satellite Battery Problem

Good Evening petef, the batteries in these machines contain sensitive intelligent circuitry that often need a special charging routine procedure when they are replaced.

This battery circuitry requires to be accepted by the machine when a battery is replaced, this is to realign the battery condition and charge schedule with the actual computer.

It may be worth your while asking Toshiba about this problem directly.

Others may have different ideas.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP that has problems in the touchpad area. I've replaced the touchpad itself and refreshed the drivers but the problem remains.

Sometimes there is no response at all, at other times it just moves the mouse pointer extremely slowly and erratically. When the first problem occurred I attached a USB mouse which worked fine. On subsequent attempts the mouse is not recognised at all, on any port. I've adjusted the sensitivity via control panel (Win7) but there is little difference in behaviour. I'm also aware of the Fn+F9 switch.

I suspect the thing is destined for scrap. Any suggestions as to how to rescue it would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,
John.

I am having the same, or a very similar problem, as that discussed in an earlier (closed) thread on this subject. I am trying to help a friend who has a Satellite A15 that went 'dead'. She only uses it to play DVDs, and the first problem she noticed was that a DVD disc would not eject. She got the disc out by using a paperclip in the manual eject pinhole, but the computer would not start up afterwards. With the power pack plugged in, I get a steady green power light and a battery charge status light (solid amber at first and solid green later on after the battery charges). When I press the 'ON' button, the 'ON' light comes on, green and steady, but there are no other signs of life - - - no video, no sound (beep codes or otherwise), no lights on the keyboard (such as the caps lock key), and the CD drive will not eject a disc electrically. After a couple of minutes, the cooling fan comes on and is really noisy. The hard disk checks okay externally. Can anybody advise me how to proceed?? Thanks in advance........GHS

she installed a copy of win Me (over w98se) that a friend gave her,
and uninstalled win me install info in add rem,
and now I get lot's of flags, bsods and some programs won't uninstall or open, on top of this problem the driver rescue CD is missing, lost and nowhere to be found. In order for me to fix this problem the only option I've is to fdisk and reinstall w98se,
which I still have the original copy of. Toshiba doesn't have any original utility CD's to give or sell for the past 3 years,
I've visited Toshiba downloads for my laptop model but they have the driver for the hardware: bios, display, modem, sound and onboard mouse to download,
and this enough for doing a clean install, but what I'm really looking for is the original Utility CD's that came with the machine, I've searched all over the web for it but I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe some of you wiz can help me on this one, there will be a billion of thanks from me for your help

Hi! So I've been constantly getting this notifications from Toshiba Tempro saying that I haven't read some messages. It said that I hadn't read two messages (one from April, the other from May), but I had. No matter how many times I opened Tempro and read the messages, it kept saying that I hadn't.

A few days ago, I apparently received another one, and now it says that I have one message to read (so I suppose that it marked the other two as read).

I have trying disabling Toshiba Tempro, but it starts up again every time I restart my laptop. I don't think that this is because the computer (a Satellite P50-C) is not working correctly, because it's only a few months old (I bought it in April).

How do I mark those messages as read?

If this is not possible, how do I permanently disable Toshiba Tempro?

I bought this machine back in February and it seemed to work OK, but lately I've been having some problems with it. Specifically, the damn thing shuts down with no warning at random times. There's no mention of any problems in the event log, and it does it in Win98SE, Win2k, WinXP & Linux, so it's fairly certain it's a hardware fault.

Initially I thought it was an overheating problem as before it shuts down, the CPU fan is going like the clappers. I sent it back to a repair shop as it was still under warranty and they claim they replaced the main board, however the problem is still there.

I tried installing a temperature monitoring program, but none of the ones I've tried can detect a temp monitoring chip (eg MBM5).

So I'm at my wits end and I'm hoping some kind person can point me in a new direction. What I'd like to do is take the thing apart and check the outlet for the fan isn't blocked as there doesn't seem to be much air coming out from the vent, but the case has a lot of tricky catches that I'm worried I might break the case. I don;t mind invalidating the warranty by opening it, because quite frankly their repair depot is terrible, they didn't repair the fault and they managed to lose the power supply.

Couldn't really see it but had this same trouble with my old Toshiba. Have you tried the vendors website?

Did you try any of these? http://http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cg...ily=1073768663

Also , I HIGHLY recommend that when you get the particular driver you need to copy it and then copy it again!

I shut down my computer last night before I went to sleep just like I always do. Woke up this morning and turned it on and its showing a "Negative Film" type of display. I haven't done anything to it over the past day that would change a setting like that and I haven't been able to figure out the source of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have a problem with the keyboard on my toshiba A105 Satellite. I cannot type letters onto the screen. When I type the keys, I get dialog boxes that appear. Examples: type p = print dialog box, h = history, b = organize favorites, e = search, etc. Some of the keys do nothing at all. I have tried a usb keyboard, but the same problem exists. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Okay,

I have the laptop over a year now, and I was running Windows Vista on it...
Then the laptop decided it wont shut down, it says shutting down, then the screen goes blank... and does nothing.
Waited hours, nothing.

So I format the laptop, and freshly install Windows 7...

Exact same problem, it doesn't sleep or anything just hangs there....
Starting up is also a problem, sometimes it says Windows Loading...

And thats it, nothing after that... I have to keep holding the power button down and trying until it starts

Any help?

You may have an application or service running at startup that is causing this issue. Try troubleshooting by running a clean startup (aka clean boot.)

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4817 laptop, I tried to burn some backup data to a dvd-rw disc, it started to burn, but then I received an error saying the burn failed and the disc will be unusable again, then the drive opened. Ever since that, the drive won't detect any DVD's I put in, but CDs it will. Don't think the drive's faulty because I have the laptop for about 6 months, and had absolutely no problems with the drive whatsoever, ever. I have spent like 6 hours looking online for any solutions. The "great" thing is, I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and haven't installed absolutely none of my programs yet, which are on backup DVDs. And now I'm bored. The drive shows up as "working" in the device manager. And the drive's seen in the My Computer. The drive's name is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17A ATA. Any suggestions on what to do, (other than replacement) because my parents had to spend like a $100 not too long ago on a display problem with the same laptop. (I'm having headaches with this laptop.)

A:Toshiba Satellite DVD-RW Drive problem...

The drive makes a funny noise, by the way, when trying to read the DvDs, but runs normal when trying to read CDs. I tried every soultion there ever is (through Google).

This is a problem that I have to admit is completely new to me, hopefully one of you guys may have some experience.
When booting up it stops responding, to continue boot up you just need to move the mousepad or press a key, you may need to do this many times to get it to eventually boot into windows XP. Once it has booted into windows it seems to work fine, the only other problem I have noticed is that 3 keys have stopped working, A,S and Z, which I am sure are unconnected with this problem.
Anyone any ideas?

A:Toshiba Satellite boot up problem

Do you have a lot of dust, dirt, and hair in the cpu fan, keyboard, etc.
The Satellite is a pretty decent laptop, but the original hard drive seems to fail a bit early... Open the case to see which brand and model of the hard drive, then go to that manufactures web site (unless it is Toshiba) and run the drive fitness test.
As far as I know, the Toshaba drives do not yet have a drive fitness test, but Toshiba is as likely to use Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, or Fujitsu... as their own.

hello:

i have a toshiba satelite pro 4270 laptop, and am having a few problems with the ram. i bought it off ebay and the ram was listed as 192mb. when i recived the laptop, it only showed up as 64mb. when i went on the laptop the next day, the ram was shown as 192mb, shortly afterwerd i got a bsod, then a "stack dump" error or something of the sort. The day after i decided to install xp, as the ram had shown up as 192mb (which is enough to run xp). I installed xp and it ran very laggy and slow, and when i went to "system" the ram showed up as 64mb.
can any one post a link to a recent SIS Savage I/X driver, because the graphical performance, and the clearness in which xp is displayed is attrocious!

Can anyone give me an answer as to why this is happening, could it be a ram problem or motherboard problem?

A:Toshiba Satellite Pro 4270 RAM Problem?

there are problems with some old toshiba laptops, connected with bad soldering of memory slots. you can try to clean memory module. also, you can check the soldering of memory slots.

A friends Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092 is failing to boot, Blue Screening with a "c0000218 Registry File Failure" error message. It is pretty clear his registry is messed up. I tried to boot it going to a previously good configuration, but that didn't work. Safe mode, of course, doesn't work either.

I wanted to back up the hard drive before going any further, and loaded an Acronis True Image Boot Disk into the CD/DVD drive. The boot bypassed the CD and attempted to load Windows. I opened Setup and made sure that the CD/DVD drive was the first boot option and tried again. Windows attempted to open. An internet search suggested that perhaps I should hold down the "c" key until the word "Toshiba" appeared on the screen. I did that, and again it was back to Windows.

I have also attempted to boot with a Windows XP Pro disk, Windows XP Pro SP2 Slipstream disk, and a Linux Boot Disk. These all fail and the computer attempts to boot to Windows.

Any suggestions? Thanks .

Hey guys, I've got a problem and it started recently.

When I'm playing music(either WMP, Winamp or Media Player Classic, checked that) it laggs at certain points. If I don't use my computer, but keep the music playing it won't lagg, but it seems that when I use the HD/CPU it starts lagging(HD or CPU, not sure). I've already googled it, but not with different terms, because I have no idea how to describe this.

My computer specs(if you need em):
Motherboard: MSI K9N Neo-F V3
Sound card: Integrated
Video card: Zotac 8600GT
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
RAM: OCZ 2GB, DDR2-800, 4-4-4-15

I've just done a stress test with Everest, came out clean... I checked everything separately and all together, but it nothing affected my music. However when I analyze my disk using UltimateDefrag or when I start a program/game the music will lagg. This never was the case before, so something's got to be wrong... When starting another song or playback there is no lagg.

Things I recently changed: Went from no pagefile to 256 MB(I've been running fine with no pagefile for over four months, but I had to use it for UltimateDefrag's Boot Time module to work properly). Used the UD Boot Defrag, this might've caused it, but I'm not sure. There is also a possibility eBoostr messed up my RAM, but I have no idea how to check that. (Also did a stress test with System Memory, but nothing happened) I checked the Winamp default decoder for buffer underuns, but none have ever occurred...

I believ... Read more
