There are either issues with the hard drive, the OS or both. Yes, it has Vista on it :(

Can someone recommend a distro of Linux to pop into the CD player and help me recover data before I put the restore disk in? I will loose everything once the restore disk starts working.

Wonder if some techie out there can help me, as I am at my wits end with my three year old Advent 6412DVD notebook.

To begin with, speedy battery drainage problems were in evidence. As the Li-on battery was three years old, I replaced it with a new one, allowing several charging and draining cycles to begin with.

A red light was in evidence when the notebook was switched off, but charging- and an orange light indicated that charging was taking place when the machine was in use.

I noticed that at regular intervals the "charging icon" would revert to the "battery in use, but not charging" icon on the icon bar- and it was necessary to put pressure on the mains lead at the point it slotted into the notebook. By pushing it slightly to the right or left, the orange light would eventually flicker (or the red, if it happened to be turned off) and charging could be initiated.

At this juncture, I ordered a new mains adaptor, but found there was still a need to put some pressure (to the right or left) at the point of contact of the mains lead/ notebook.

During this time, the battery became drained to such an extent that it would breathe no life whatsoever into the notebook. By wiggling the mains adaptor, a static green light will eventually appear above the "hibernate" (half moon) icon on the computer's surface, but it is impossible to initiate the charging which a red light would imply. When the battery is removed, the notebook will n... Read more

A:Waking up a dead notebook

It could also be a matter of the battery contacts being corroded or misaligned.

Have you looked at the contacts on the battery and in the case???

Can you use the machine on AC at all? Many, if not most, laptops will work without a battery (I realize this defeats the purpose.)

Assuming that you find no contact problems, I would lean towards a board or board connector being up the creek. And at the age of your laptop, those components could be difficult to find, but maybe you'll get lucky.

Good luck!

My notebook's motherboard is fried, but it seems like such a waste to scrap it and not make use of it. Is there any way to get a use out of the LCD? setting it up as a second monitor for my current setup?

Thanks,
Carlos

A:Dead notebook; Can I use the parts?

I don't know about the LCD, but I have saved memory, hard drives, optical drives, keyboards, screws. wifi modules, etc. for use in other projects.
The memory, in particular, has come in handy. Some day when I lose a screw I might be grateful.

I'm stumped trying to figure out why my Fujitsu Lifebook has recently slowed to a crawl. Mcaffee, Malaware bytes and windows Defender have not helped. Tried Adavanced System Optimiser to clean registry, didn't help. System takes more than 5 minutes to get from account selection to usable computer. Occaisionally get message "virtual memory minimum too low", but Windows Help not too helpful on how too address this. Checked device manager for non-functioning components, found McAfee firewall network filter miniport #10 not working, message: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. Hello to all, just joined

I got an Mecer 5750 notebook. The guy upgraded and gave his old machine to me. He said the thing is dead. He didn't take it to an technition or anything. It stopped working one day and he wanted a new one. Its an 600MHz PIII, 64MB RAM. Ok, so its fairly old.

So I thought, maybe I can fix it somehow. I don't have that much experience working inside notebooks, so I don't really know what to look for except the normal things.

When I switch the notebook on, the power led goes on and then off. I don't know if the AC adaptor is dead or the socket where you plug that in is dead or maybe the motherboard is just dead.

Is there maybe something specific I should be looking for or do anyone have another idea?

maybe I can stil save this old thing..

Don't hesitate going into detail, even if I have to take the thing apart, that's fine.

Any help welcome

Regards

I have an Acer Aspire 1410 Notebook which came with Vista Home Premium.
I just ran the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade (custom Installation).
I was able to run the install, check for and download updates and activate 7. The last thing I did was to change the "update windows" option to notify me when downloads are available but let me choose when to download and install.
After doing all of this I restarted the system and windows wouldn't start, I followed the recomendation to run Startup repair which when finished reported that the volume was corrupt, not sure of the exact wording. I tried to restart, and was prompted to run the Startup repair again which I did. The window opened and showed that it was checking for problems, the next time I looked at the screen it was blank (not blue screen) with ony the mouse pointer visible. I could move the pointer but there was no other activity.
I tried to turn off and restart the computer using the power button but could not get anything happening.
Any ideas on how I can get this machine up and running again?

Hey everybody... I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. Anyone know what the driver is? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

Hi all! I'm so frustrated! I purchased my HP Pavilion 15t-ab200 Notebook on Amazon 5 months ago and gave it a 5 star review.  Earlier today my laptop got extremely hot on the bottom while using it on my lap.  It is a laptop after all.   I was commenting to my daughter that it felt like it was burning my legs.  She suggested I turn it off and let it cool down, which I did.  When I tried to turn it back on, the power button lit up and a light on the caps key was blinking, but never turned on.   I've done a hard reset (more than once) by removing the battery, unplugging the power cord, holding the power button down for 30 seconds to drain any residual power, then replacing battery and plugging it in and now NOTHING happens.  No lights.  No sound.  No screen.  No LED.  I've help the power button down for a long time but nothing at all happens.  Dead.   I called the HP 24/7 support line and reached a message that the 24/7 support is closed.  They close at midnight EST.  Am I  misunderstanding what 24/7 means?  Any help, suggestions, numbers for a real 24/7 support line, or just a big old mallet would be very much appreciated.   -Becky

I have a HP Presario CQ62 notebook that just totally died.
I closed it up after using it normally, came back and opened the lid and it was dead. No lights, not even power supply indicator light. Nothing happens when the power button is pushed of course.
I thought and hoped it was a faulty power supply and a flat battery, but I have a spare power supply so this was able to be ruled out.
Not that it's relevant here, but it's running Windows 7 64 bit.
Anyone got any ideas where to look for a solution to this? As it won't fire up on battery or power it has to be after those.

Remove the memory and re install it... Remove the battery and try AC power only. With the battery out and AC out, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Re install the battery and see if the laptop powers up

Hi everyone, My 3 month old Gateway notebook just stopped working the other night. I picked up a notebook hard drive enclosure in hopes of retrieving the work from the hard drive saved in the my documents folder before taking it back.

When I try to gain access to the my documents it is telling me that access is denied. My notebook had a password set up on the administrator profile.
I've tried to go through sharing and security settings but this only allows me to see whats in the owners documents folder for the notebook, not retrieve any work.
The notebook has XP home and my desktop has XP pro.
If anyone can shed light on why this is happening or how I can get around this to save my work, I'd appreciate it!

Hi all,

I've attached a picture of the display on a Sony VAIO model PCG-5J1L.
The laptop is fully functional, apart from the screen. This is what it shows after Windows finishes loading.

Is this a case of clear-cut "sure, you need to replace p/n xyz and voila" or a more complex case of "this could be one of several things" ?

Thanks.

A:Dead VAIO notebook display. What needs replacing?

Since the screen is lit up i dont think its the ribbon cable, backlights, or inverter. So im thinking graphics, chipset, or video drivers are corrupted or the video card has gone bad.to get a proper diagnosis i would take it somewhere and then you will know what failed or what needs replaced and go from there.

I'll see if I can explain this as straight forward as possible.

Purchased ASUS K50IJ notebook about three years ago.
K50IJ - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS

Right off I swapped out the default 320 gig 5400 for a 500 gig 7200.
Loved the laptop. Used it for two years that way. No problems.

About a year ago I swapped out the HDD for an SSD.
Awesome laptop loved it even more. Again no problems.

Now a few days ago while in operation it froze. Could do nothing short of pulling the power cable and battery. Then it turned off of course.

Reattached the power cable and reinserted the battery and turned it back on.

The light in the power button turns on, the DVD does the usual zzp zzp as it always does when it's powered up. The power light at the front lights up. the HDD light flickers as usual but no logo on screen or anything on screen for that matter implying it's starting up.

Then all goes quiet and the HDD light pulsates very lightly like about every two seconds. but nothing on screen.

If I open the optical drive ( that still opens ) and insert a boot-able disk, it will spin up as if it's looking at the disk, does a few zzp zzp zzp and then just spins there for a long time but still nothing on the screen at all.

So a few things I've tried is:

Pulled the battery and power cable, then hold down the power button for a minimum 60 seconds. Then reattached just the power cable and pressed the power button. No change it helps nothing.

Opened it up and swapped out SSD for th... Read more

Can you get into the BIOS settings?
On Asus laptops you repeatedly press the F2 key immediately after pressing power on.

Also, if you repeatedly press the ESC key at power on it should bring up the boot device menu, where you can choose to boot from the CD/DVD to test.

I'm selling a dead notebook (Sony F270) that still has personal data and files on the hard drive. I replaced it with a newer Sony (FXA48) and doubt that I can simply switch hard drives to gain access.

What would you suggest?

PS I don't really want to buy a bunch of adapter cables (power & data) to hook it to a desktop but the only other option I can think of is a big magnet. I didn't really want to erase the OS and applications, kind of diminishes the value to the buyer.

Hi, I?m new to the forum and not really a computer ceek.
I got following problem, my hdd partition C on my HP Envy notebook is destroyed, the notebook has an recovery partition d which is also 500MB, how can I recover my personal data on the destroyed C? Is there the same data on the D like on the C?
The arms on the C are destroyed I guess everything else is working. I was thinking to get the same hdd drive and swap either the (double platters or the heads) but if I can do it differently I will refrain from taking the hdd apart.
Thanks for the help.

A:Dead hdd (C) on HP Envy notebook can I recover data?

Hi el condor,

Welcome to the SevenForums.

From what you have said I understand the HDD had suffered physical damage with a head crash. How did you decide that?

In such a case the HDD is a write-off and you cannot do a DIY.

If you want to do a data recovery in a physically damaged drive, you have to approach a professional data recovery service but it will cost you a bomb with unpredictable end results.

My honest advice would be to replace the hard drive. If you had made the recovery CDs, you can reinstall the factory installation.

If not you may have to do a clean install of the same Edition Windows that came preinstalled and use the COA key on the sticker of your HP Envy to activate it.

And if your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP Technical Support for the required service.

Is it locking up when using Firefox? Try running Firefox with add ons disabled. Go to the Firefox tab > Help > click on "Restart with Add-Ons Disabled"

If this fixes the problem, then go to the Firefox tab > Add-Ons > then enable one at a time until Firefox locks up, remove or disable offending Add-On.

You may want to check that your Plug-Ins are updated also, with the Add-Ons Manager window open, click on the Plug-Ins. At the top there will be a link "Check to see if your Plug-ins are up to date", click the link and update any that require a update or fix.

My Gateway Solo 1450 notebook suddenly "died". I have no clue as to what steps to take to get into it to retrieve my important files.

Although the problem started with a message that indicated a "Missing Operating System" (Win XP Home)... there are clearly BIG problems left to be solved. And without help I'll be lost.

There seems to be NO LIFE at all except a dull orange power indicator on the case (which really ought to be green to indicate proper power. Nothing works. No other lights, beeps, fan... or anything at all.

I have tried a few things, but have made no progress at all. HELP!

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.  It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS. Please click the white KUDOS star to show your appreciation

I was working on my homework last night, I noticed the battery was getting low but kept typing anyways. I plugged my computer BEFORE it completely died on me, as I was typing, it shut down. I pressed the power button and nothing happened. I unplugged it and plugged it again and nothing. It has been working fine for the 3+ years that I've had it. Please help

A:hp 2000 notebook fan problem?

Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c

Hi Guys, I did a scan this morn and that came up on the log along with "Cracking Tool", AdShooter Searchfor it, and Cyber Snoot 4.0. They all seem to be attched to Java jdk1.6.0_02\lib.jar|s, applications. I read that" Back Oriface" is some kind of Trojan. Any suggestions? I also have "Unknown Dialer" on the list. I deleted this one before and then my Java wouldnt work rite. Had to uninstall it and then reinstall. I just need to know which one I need to delete or is further action needed. Thanks, Joe

I am downgrading this notebook for a friend and I am unable to get any of the drivers for the network to install properly. I nave zero connectivity either through the wireless connection or ethernet connection. I have seen several posts regarding this issue, however, the links to the drivers only take me to the main HP support page.  I have tried downloading the drivers suggested by HP however, when installed on the PC I get the error message stating "The program might not have been installed properaly". I have tried several of the ralink drivers (secifially the 802.11b/g/n WLAN driver) with no success.   Any help would be much appreciated!!

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?

I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:

Hi, all. Newbie here to the forums. ;) I hope I'm posting this to an appropriate forum, but if I'm not, my apologies. (Also, my apologies in advance for the wall of text, but I like to provide as much information as possible.)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding a fairly complex problem that led to the recent replacement of my PC and whether it's possible or advisable for me to try to grab files off the two hard drives from the old machine, which eventually went BSOD due to a SYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION error (sorry, I forgot to get the precise Stop Code). Though that probably happened due to my own folly (more on that in a bit), I can't rule out the possibility of malware leading up to this, at this point. Please note that both the "dead" Windows 2000 machine and the "new" XP one were donated by friends, so I pretty much "got what I paid for" and had little choice in what was installed on them. Also, please note that the Windows 2000 machine "died" at the beginning of the year, and I got the replacement XP machine a month later; I've only just now gotten around to posting about this. ;)

The "dead" PC was running Windows 2000 on a Celeron 466 mHz processor with 128 MB of RAM. The OS is on a 10 GB HD, and there is also a nearly full 40 GB HD to store larger files; both are ATA drives using IDE controllers. I also used an external Western Digital MyBook 500 GB USB HD (... Read more

A:What's the safest way to port data from a "dead" Windows 2000 machine to a "new" XP one?

Hi again.Erm, I know we're not supposed to bump our topics, and this is hardly a high priority one, but it has been nearly two weeks since I opened this one, and I would appreciate some advice as to what I should do in order to safely port my date from my now defunct Windows 2000 machine to my "new" XP one.I might as well take the opportunity to give additional information that I forgot last time around. The data that I want to retrieve from the "dead" machine mainly consists of documents, text files, chat logs, works in progress, images (such as pictures I scanned in, etc.), and emails that were stored on the machine within the past two years. (Most of the data I need that is from prior to 2008 had already been copied over to the external USB drive, which I do have limited access to.) I am not looking to back up any executable files from it, so that should allay any concerns that I might possibly want to retrieve files that could have been infected.Furthermore, when I said that I had tried anti-malware products that I hadn't used before, I meant that I was actually using those that I knew to be reputable. On the "dead" machine, I had been using F-Prot's on-demand virus scanner (the system was just too slow to run the real-time protection) until the end of last December, when I decided to give AVG Free a try. AVG found the Weatherbug and a few stray trojans in old files I never executed, and (IIRC) "Win32/Small" in the ... Read more

After the install, I noticed the following drivers were not installed:Ethernet ControllerNetwork ControllerPCI DevicePCI Simple Communication ControllerSM Bus Controller The HP download site doesn't offer the drivers listed for this model. Would anyone happen to know where I can locate the drivers for this notebook or could I use a comparable model to get the drivers?Thank you

Hi: Type any password you want 3 times, and the PC should generate a system disabled (halt) code. After you get the halt code, see the first post at the link below for how to get an unlock code to enter, so you can get access to your PC.  There are also steps to clear the password. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy?stem-and-Recovery/System-Halt-Error-Message-or-BIO?...

Hi, I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my PC after accidentally formating the HHD because of a faulty image system I tried to restore.  I was able to download and install most of the drivers that I required from this page on hp website: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-2000-300-notebook-pc-series/5145724/model/5171088... However the chipset driver seems to be missing. The processor is: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.65HGzThis seems to be the motherboard information of the pc: Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard            Product: 3577SerialNumber: PCHMCA47V1R2BJ             Version: 24.49 I obtained that information by running the following command on the command prompt:    >wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer, version, serialnumber The rest of the pc specs are on this hp page (its google cache version since the page look blank to me otherwise):http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03015474&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&... Any help would be appreciated.

I have a dv6t with the i7  720m processory from about 3 yrs ago build. I think it has clarksfield processor. I have a 2 x 2 gig installed for total of 4gig now from the original build.   I am wondering (assuming Win  7 64 bit home premium which supports up to 16gig), will this laptop only support 8gig?  I ran a tool and it has a reference of Logical/Chipset memory banks  maximum memory installable of 32gig and a reference to Computer memory controller Max installable memory of 8gig.  So what gives? Will the laptop support 2x8gig memory sticks or just 2x4gig memory sticks?  The DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment laptop.  If it supports 16 gig, I would like to just buy one of the 8gig rather than 2x4gig sticks. And maybe try to use one of the 2 gigs with the 8gig giving me 10gig for now...or just wait to see if I need a 2nd 8gig.  And will a bios upgrade support the 16 gig?

A:DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook with i7 72QM processor...

I figured I would update my own question with the truth and working answer which hopefully helps anyone else that stubmles into this.  But in a nutshell the DV6t 2000 CTO models one could order about 2009 DO DO DO support 16gig and NOT just 8 gig. I have 2 slots. I have the 720QM quad first edition, yes first edition. Both Intel site and Memory checker sites are WRONG!  The saying was 1st gen cpu quads do not support more than 2x4gig=8gigs.  In fact one of my tools suggests I can put in up to 32gig assuming I can find 2 x 16gig memory sticks that I don't even think exist yet for general sale let alone affordability. Spread the word as hopefully this will help others. I bought memory at egghead and figured I would chance it since I read several reviews and comments in various locations suggesting they tried 16gig and indeed it worked for the 720QM processor.  I did not have to update my BIOS that HP last suggested I install circa 2010ish as opposed to the 4 or so that are available today for my model but I think were updated to support other things my model did not require. I ran memory tests too in 5 iterations without issue and in fact it booted right away with no problems with WIN 7 home premium recognizing the sticks. I also checked the CPU64z tool  tab for memory.

Hey guys, I've been noticing a strange issue with my 2011 HP 2000 Notebook laptop for quite some time and figured
I should look into asking for some assistance. For a long while now, my laptop, at very random and less-than occasional times, will make a squealing sound or a long beep, and then something inside clicks rather loud. I've noticed lately that I have received a "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Blue Screen error a few times, twice when I would wake the computer from Sleep Mode, and once while a Windows 7 update was in progress. Luckily, after my computer restarted from the one Blue Screen, the update continued like normal. I've also noticed once in a while if I shut the computer down, right before the laptop completely powers off, it may make a quick beep and click before powering off. I'm a little scared, as I don't know what could be the issue. I feel as though it's the HDD, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking for help here. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

Thank you so much for any help! ... Read more

My computer was hacked October 30 2015. i believe it happened when i opened an email to upgrade to windows 10. At that time my computer was turned into a server and a network manager took over. Whilst doing so this person had deleted my recovery partition. Its taken almost a year to figure this out due to the fact i do not know a **bleep** thing about computers. So here is my question: How do i get the recovery disk? I cant find it anywhere on HP website.

A:internal microphone on HP 2000 notebook laptop not working

Hello maggie75. I understand that you're having some problems with your microphone. You should try recording audio in another application so that you can determine whether this is an issue with the application or the microphone. Try the following.Click Start, type "sound recorder," and press Enter. This opens the Sound Recorder application.Attempt to record sound.Verify whether or not you hear sound.Post the result.Also. you may need to update some software. If this is the case it will be helpful to have your product number. This document can show you where it is located for me.I will await the result of this. I hope you have a great day!

let me start from initials ...i have a hp notebook 2000 from 5 years , there was everything good until i used a data recovery software. When i was using the software to recover some data i stopped the file searching in mid, THATS WHERE MY BAD LUCK CATCHED ME after some time i stopped rec. soft. from task manager but when i tried to use it again there was some red lines showing me that there are some bad sectors in my disk . i tried to reboot but it stucked on  bios saying hard drive is inaccesible i bought a new drive shopkeeper said me your lappy heats up too much so put it on a service i said ok i after cleaning my laptop i installed fresh window 7 os in it after 1 day screen of laptop sudden goes white and it was completely off i tried to turn it on but only power on led was blinking i unplugged battery and kept it for two days after two days i plugged battery and tried to start ,, it was started but for only 5 min. now alomst after 5 days its caps lock is blinking , shopkeeper said me keep it in front of sun for 1 day it wil start but i  am in darkness plz sir or friendz help me asap

A:my hp notebook 2000 is not starting but caps lock is blinkin...

The heat damaged the motherboard. You can try keeping it in the sun. Kind of a substitute for baking the main chipset which sometimes works temporarily to melt the solder connections and get everything flowing again but never lasts very long.  The data recovery did not cause this, by the way, just a coincidence.

how do i fix this? (all specs should be listed in the specs thing)

Welcome to the forum.

Please post a screen shot of Disk Management in your computer.

Also, just noticed that you list Malwarebytes as your antivirus program. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus program. You should reallyinstall one.

Hi, As you are confirming that issue is intermittent, and now its working fine, it means that issue would be of display cable. The display cable would be loose. Issue can be fixed by refixing the display cable, if the issue persists then the display cable needs to be replaced. This is the only reason, I asked you in the previous post whether issue was intermittent or display view changed while moving the display lid. This particualr issue has nothing to do with the temperature. Regards,Sumit I am an HP Employee

A:My HP 2000-369wm notebook won't boot past the HP logo screen...

Not a lot of info here1) Can you access the BIOS /CMOS screen2) IF yes can you move around the screens and or see that the system has recognised the hard drive. Does the system make any strange noises? How long does it take to switch on ?Is it getting over hot? What happen eventually?Do you can you power it off easily or do you have to hang on to the power button to get it to go offWith it powered OFF!Have you tried removing the hard drive?Reseatting the Memory?Removed the Optical drive? If no then try this below.  Try using a boot DVD/CD to establish if the system will 'get out of bed' Or a linux boot flash stick you can then see if the system is viable and or if the system can access the Hard drive(s) It will also allow you to recover the data transfer to a flash stick.

So i got this hp 2000 notebook pre installed win 8 from a friend. I did some HP tests and shows HD short DST Failure.
I was able to refresh the pc and it does run per sa but constant always getting dst failures. So i assume its dying. I bought a new hard drive for the unit. Now if i put it in, will windows setup pull the product key from the bios? I put windows 8 on a usb key. Can anyone guide me through the process?

A:hp 2000 notebook Hard Drive DST short failure, Reinstall?

Hi, if the PC came originally with Windows 8 preinstalled the product key is embedded in the BIOS so it would be detected automatically. Here is a great tutorial how to install Windows 8 Clean Install - Windows 8.

Good luck, werty
