Laptop will not connect to second monitor via HDMI

Q: Laptop will not connect to second monitor via HDMI

Hey, I'm going to be headed off to college soon, and I'm switching from my old desktop to a new Razer Blade 2014, I am planning on still bringing my 2nd monitor to college and want to use it in my dorm room, My Monitor does not have a HDMI, but that is the only port on my Laptop. I thought this would be simple, because I was already running a HDMI to DVI-D on my desktop to my GTX 770 graphics card. While connected to my desktop, the monitor works normally. When I plug it into my laptop, I get nothing in response, The laptop will not detect the Monitor in screen resolution or in control panel. My monitor is a LG Flatron and my laptop is the Razer Blade 2014. I don't understand why it doesn't just plug and play like it did on my PC. Any help? Also, I am on windows 10 but the problem happened on Windows 8.1 aswell

A: Laptop will not connect to second monitor via HDMI

Has it ever worked? You may want to test using a different monitor and a true HDMI to HDMI cable, just to verify the laptop port functions properly.

Hello. I use Windows Vista on a nearly 6 year old Acer Aspire 5930.

My old monitor stopped working, so I borrowed one from a friend. That will connect through VGA(my old cable), but for some reason everything got a greenish look, impossible to use for anything besides reading.

So I also borrowed his HDMI-cable. I connect them both, it makes the sound indicating it's connected, but nothing happens. If I have both VGA/HDMI at the same time the VGA works. If I remove VGA it won't work. I've tried numerous different combinations of this.

I've tried the Fn+F5 thing. Only works with the VGA.

Tried rebooting it, both with VGA and HDMI connected. Same result.

I'm fairly certain I've connected this pc to a tv 2 years ago, but then the sound didn't work, but the visual was working fine.

I've cracked the screen on the laptop. Everything I've been trying I've done with VGA connected.

The video driver is up to date.

The monitor is definitely working on a different pc. The VGA is probably working. My old monitor died due to power failure(It just turned off and won't come back on) so there's no reason to believe the VGA-cable isn't broken either.

A:Won't connect laptop to monitor with HDMI

This is one old box and I'd suggest that the integrated video chip is nearly dead or at least the HDMI aspect of it is.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to connect my Toshiba laptop with an HDMI Output to my Phillips 42PFL9532/98 using ATi Catalyst Control Center and I am trying to clone the laptop monitor to be the same on the TV but it comes up on the TV Unsupported Video Format and when I make it a 2nd monitor it works fine.

It would be great if someone could help me out to get it working.

Thanks Sam

Hello all,

I have a quick question. My new graphics card has a HDMI port and I was wondering if there is any advantage of using that port to connect my graphics card to my monitor over the normal DVI port? Is it worth buying the cable that I would need to do this>

many thanks,

A:Use HDMI or DVI to connect monitor to computer.

The only difference is HDMI carries audio and video and DVI carries Video only.

Brand new mac mini. Want to use HDMI, but when I connect cable, boot up mac and turn on Monitor, the mac starts to go into new product mode, then quickly picture switches to 2 alternating graphic pictures of what looks to be 2 different computers. I gather this means monitor is looking for a suitable source?? By way of a test of the monitor, I hooked it up to a Macbook Pro using DVI and it worked fine. Just no luck with the HDMI. Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

I'm a bit desperate so I came here hoping to find some answers.

So I wanted to connect a second monitor (which is a TV screen) to my PC to watch movies, but suddenly my PC wont send any signal to my TV, so I tried connecting all kinds of HDMI cables to all kind of TVs/monitors laying around in the house, and my conclusion is that whenever I tried to connect a second monitor with HDMI directly to my PC it wont show anything and it also doesn't show up in my Display settings on my PC. So from what I can tell the problem lays with the PC itself (within windows probably).

I have up to date display drivers so that is not the problem.

Also something worth mentioning is that my main PC monitor is connected with DVI, and the DVI connector works just fine on every device.

Hope someone can help me find an answer soon!

This concerns an HP late-model notebook, Win7 Home Prem x64, used as a desktop with HDMI-connected 1080p 21", plus usb mouse/kbd. The goal is to make this as simple as possible: desktop-like. Just turn it on and work.
It seems that either/both coming out of sleep state or simple shutdown and startup the Monitor stays offline because, I suppose, its getting no signal from the notebook. I tried to duplicate this on a dell notebook in my 'lab' but I only have a vga connect to work with - it just works. in fact I have trouble with the usb port but not with the monitor persisting.

is there a chance there is some interplay between vendor/maker-specific implentations, plus perhaps the embedded Intel HD video controller?

A:How to make HDMI-connect Ext Monitor persist?

this could be an external device problem, somehow messing up allocation of resources @ boot. my brother has a new i7 super machine, hooked up with a monitor(dvi) and an hdmi bigsceen hooked up as well.
no problems. then he hooked up a firewire card-hooked up to an external mixer, something like that. he had identical/very similar issues. when we troubleshot, i first said eliminate any possibilities no matter how remote.

long story short.

when the external device is powered up his main monitor did not work when coming out of hibernate mode. with it off(not the card just the devise) all is well.

from what i could assertain, didn't sound like your problem. i know this sort of deal does not usually occur with printers and scanners. but it is somewhere to start(or end if nothing else is hooked up in such a fasion).

good luck dude

I have an i5-based DG67BL intel motherboard computer that has a DVI and HDMI ports with one DVI monitor connected to the DVI port.

I added an GeFORCE 210 graphics card to it that has a VGA and a DVI ports and connected additional two monitors to it.

So far computer is working fine with three monitors configured in windows as extended desktop.

This motherboard has just one PCIeX16 slot. It has 2 PCIeX1 and a PCI slot that are vacant.

I need to connect yet another DVI monitor. I took a HDMI<->DVI cable, connected it to the onboard HDMI port. the monitor was not detected.

I tried various combinations of monitors and bios settings in vain. Under no circumstances the HDMI port drove the DVI monitor.

The cable is working fine elsewhere.

What did I do wrong ? Is there something I need to buy/replace for this to work ?

Thanks !

A:How to connect additional DVI monitor to HDMI port

you 'need' to connect a 4th monitor? I recommend getting graphics card(s) to support your endeaver, but up to you.

Why don't you get a dvi to vga or maybe its a vga to dvi cord and connect the dvi monitor to the graphics card vga port?

Does it have to go into the HDMI port? HDMI carries sound as well as the video signal, dvi only carries video, and vga carries a lesser quality video

Hi, I recently figured out that I can plug my Xbox 360 Video and Audio Cables into my computer. What me and my father tried, was that we tried opening windows media center (Since we have windows vista). We have been trying for 4 hours now, using a bunch of different methods. I'm not that very techie (Which is why I'm asking you guys) so I'll use the best terms I can. My main question is, how do I make my Xbox 360 screen appear on my monitor so I can play it.
Sidenote:If this actually works is there a way I can record what I'm playing?

Thank you all in advance.

A:Can't connect Xbox 360 to HDMI Computer Monitor.

Bit confused here. Why are you plugging it into the computer? Can you not just plug it into the monitor? Most have several ports, think one of them should work for you- lots have a HDMI input, that may be your solution.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have confirmed:
There is no malware/virus on my computer.
HDMI cable is fine (I have 2 new cables, and switching cables doesn't change anything).

So, as the title says I'm having trouble with the connection from my laptop to my tv through hdmi, and I've tried quite a few things to solve the problem, but I'm not the most gifted person with computers or technology as a whole, I've simply run out of ideas.

Before I moved out from my parents' house in november, I'd lent a tv of theirs (a non-smart lg tv) that worked perfectly with my current laptop and hdmi, so I had to get a new tv+hdmi. So I went out and bought a new tv (LG 42LF580V). After a week it stopped being able to connect with my new 5 metre hdmi cable, so I went out and got another hdmi cable (also 5 metres). That worked for about 2 days and then that also stopped working, so I figured it was the tv. I sent it back and ordered a new tv (Samsung UE40J5515). I never got that to work with my hdmi cables and laptop, so I sent that back too. Some time in the middle of all that I've had my laptop connected to various things at school through hdmi, and I've also had it connected to both my neighbour's and my friend's tv so see if something was wrong with my laptop, but I had no problem with that.

Xmas was approaching and as I went back to my parents' house on holiday, I of course brought my laptop and one of the first things I did was connect it to the non-smart lg tv that I used to use. It connected instantly and worked without any problem at all for the next two weeks until I had to go home.

Hi there

Now that's a different issue completely --some of these VGA==>HDMI video converters aren't much use I'm afraid. - I had one ages ago but could never get it to work -- what you could try though is see if your computer can set to DUAL monitors first and then try and use one as the primary. I think (if I remember W7) that Windows + P key scrolls through the external monitor settings.

With VGA output from one of those converters you won't get 1080p - you might have to set your TV to a much lower resolution than 1920 X 1080.

So I connected my Dell laptop to my LG LCD TV for the first time via an HDMI to HDMI cable, and it worked great. The next time I attempted to do this, my TV displayed "no signal" on every hdmi input. I've tried updating drivers and using the tool that is partnered with my graphics card to appoint the TV as the primary monitor, but I've gotten nothing.

Both the laptop and TV recognize that the HDMI cable has been inserted, but it won't show me a picture or give off any sound. Help!

Hey, months and months ago someone stood on my laptop screen and left it broken with the black and multicoloured patches all over it.
I was able to still use the laptop by connecting a hdmi usb lead from the laptop to the back of my tv. It worked fine for a few weeks before it started to cut out randomly.
Then it would only work by tilting or lifting the lead up a certain way. And now it doesnt work at all.
My tv says 'check signal cable' when things are on the right channel but arent connected, yet when i plug the lead in it says 'no signal'.
Im saving up for a new screen but until then i need to get my college work from my laptop.
Any ideas on why it's not working?

Hi there. I have a problem that just presented itself in the last 24 hours. I have previously connected my laptop computer to my HDTV via the HDMI port on a regular basis but randomly as of last night my laptop will no longer acknowledge that the HDMI is connected to the HDTV. I have tested 2 different HDMI cables to be sure they are working properly as well as all 3 ports on my HDTV and made sure the TV was on the correct input. I have not done any updates/installations/uninstalls/deletions/resolutions changes or anything else that could have prompted this issue. I double checked my graphics card drivers, which were out of date but I was able to update them. I have cleaned my registry, did a system restore, checked for viruses/malware/spyware, power drained, and rebooted multiple times.

On, what I would call, a related note... The online game that I play has also started having problems when I run it. This started the exact same time that my laptop's HDMI would no longer connect to my HDTV, hense the belief of relation. The game has become extremely laggy dropping me down to 2-3 fps. I can drop my video settings down to minimum and be lag free, however, I have been playing the game on this same laptop for 8 months on the highest ultra settings with absolutely no problems until whatever occurred last night.

These 2 things lead me to believe it is a graphics card problem. I am currently running NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G. As I said before, I have updated to the most recent ... Read more

The problem is whenever my PC goes to hibernate and I try to wake it up, second monitor fails to start and since it is defined as the master screen, each time it happens, I have no choice but restarting the PC.

I'll be so grateful if someone can tell me how to fix this problem.

Hey guys, it was a long time since I needed assistance with any technical stuff but today is the day again.

So it is like this,
I am using an Asus N61JQ laptop and I always used the VGA cable to connect any monitor or projector. Today I wanted to connect my laptop to my Dell U2412M monitor with a digital cable instead of VGA and that is when got in to problems.

Dell U2412M connections: DVI, Display Port, VGA.
Asus N61JQ connections: HDMI, VGA.

To connect the laptop to the monitor I have used an nVidia adapter that came along with one of the GPU's + an 1.8m HDMI cable.
This is the link to the adapter:
So I connected the adapter to the monitor and then the HDMI cable from the laptop. In the end I did not get any image.
Just to be safe I have also installed the original drivers for the GPU and audio chip from Asus support.
The cable is not faulty nor is the adapter, tested it on an old laptop that had DVI on the side of it.

WHY? Something to do with the signal conversion and it suppose to work just from the back of a GPU?
What kind of an adapter or cable do I need then?

I do not really want a big adapter sticking out of my laptops HDMI port, it is way too easy to break. But please include both the adapter and the cable that I need in the explanation just so I know this for the future.
Thank you for your time.

A:HDMI laptop / DVI monitor cable connection

Faulty/incorrect adapter. Try a different adapter or use a DVI to HDMI cable. It's also possible that it won't work at all. The adapters are generally meant to connect to the PC side (ie: DVI output). This is because most HDMI ports also expect/utilize HDCP.

Does HDMI needed to be unplugged and plug back in for it to broadcast a signal from Laptop to an external monitor? Because this seems to be my case at times.

A:Laptop connecting to an external Monitor via HDMI

It shouldn't. Does the problem occur during bootup, or while in use?

Also, if it occurs after letting the PC sleep or hibernation, it could be a hardware or OS/software issue.

Is there anything wrong with this? Will it work OK?

It's only a small price - but didn't want to waste money if it won't work

A:Can I add a 3rd monitor to my laptop by getting a 'hdmi male to vga svga female'

HDMI is digital,vga/svga is analog.
A simple converter cable won't work.
You would need a signal converter to

I've recently purchased a Samsung T23A750 monitor and to my disappointment when I try to watch a movie the built in speakers are not functioning. I have a Sony Vaio Z216GX connected via HDMI to the monitor (HDMI-DVI) port. I can definitely see the video, but no audio is playing from the speakers. The built in speakers are not at fault- I did a self-diagnosis of the monitor and the speakers seem to work fine. I also set the monitor as the default for the audio and even when Win 7 says its functioning properly, the speakers still don't work. Conversely, setting the default to my PC speakers work fine. I have a ASUS HDMI monitor which works perfectly via the VGA connection to my ACER laptop (windows7). Now I want it to connect to my DELL laptop (Windows8) but there is no VGA connection so instead I am using a DVI digital cable. I have pressed the F8 button on the DELL which gives me the monitor options and I have chosen Duplicate Screen (tried others too), my laptop screen goes blank and then after 10 seconds returns to normal. When I check the ASUS monitor and press the connection button is still says no DVI connection. I know the DVI cable works as I have no issues connecting this laptop using this cable to the TV.

So how can I get the monitor to recognise the laptop?

Thank you for all your help

Hey everyone, I'm having this problem with Dota 2 and Diablo III. Whenever I connect my approximately 15" laptop to my 24" monitor using an HDMI cable, it forces me to use a lower resolution in order for the game to not be laggy. When I use my laptop by itself, it can support the highest resolution which is like 1324 x 1024 or something like that, in addition to all the highest settings (except shadow), and the game looks perfect. However, when I connect it to my monitor, there are many more resolutions to choose from, the highest being 1924 x 1000 or something, but when I choose this resolution the game LOOKS like it does when I just use my laptop at the 1324 x 1024 (or something close to that) resolution but it plays much much slower and forces me to use a lower resolution such as 1024 x 800 in order for it to be playable at the cost of graphics. I'm just wondering because when I play other games on my laptop that's hooked up to my monitor the games I play look the exact same on the monitor as they do on the laptop and I'm not forced to use a lower resolution, such as HoN. But when I play dota 2 and Diablo 3, the graphics become shittier on my monitor because I am forced to use a lower resolution. I don't need or want a higher resolution supported by my monitor if using it only makes the game laggy and unplayable, I'd rather use the lower resolution of my laptop with the perfect graphics and have it displayed in that exact way onto the monitor, which is what happe... A:Resolution Issue when connecting Laptop to Monitor via HDMI cable

Flangdoogler, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The full make and model of your laptop would help, as then we could see what it has for graphics in it (GPU). Depending on what it is it is likely that you answered your own question,

Or is that I simply cannot have the same graphics displayed on my laptop (15") be copied exactly onto my monitor (24") due to graphics card reasons?

If the graphics card in the laptop isn't up to running it at high settings and resolution, then one or the other has to be lowered (and most time both) to get the game to be playable.

A:Can I connect a monitor and use that monitor as my laptop's ...

Hi, Yes, you can. The following link shows specs of your machine: It has 1 HDMI port, this is very handy. There are many monitors around which have HDMI port. 21" to 24" monitors are very popupar. Just go out and buy one (please check to see HDMI cable is included otherwise you have to buy a cable). Now, you can connect your laptop to the monitor, then power them up. Normally they will connect automatically, otherwsie hit F4. Regards.

I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi, I have a new laptop (HP-Windows 10) without a VGA connector. I've connected my laptop successfully to my Coby TV/Monitor using an HDMI connection however the edges appear off the screen-so I can't see the tool bar on top or the tray on the bottom or the print pop-up screen on the side of websites. Looking at the manual the only way I can adjust the screen is if I use a VGA connection. I tried using an adaptor that has a VGA connector on one end and and HDMI on the other but the Coby monitor didn't recognize it. Is there something I can do to adjust the screen size on my Coby tv/monitor? I lost the remote for the Coby so I have to use the controls on the side of the TV. Re model # TFTV2425 THANKS!

Can someone tell me the name of the cord or thing I have to buy?

A:How do I connect a monitor to my laptop?

The Connection:
Your Laptop should have a VGA plug at the back, you may need an adaptor to convert 15Pin VGA to LCD connector

The Settings:
In Control Panel - Display Advanced settings, does your laptop support dual display?

You may need to post your System Specs for more support on this, you can also update your Profile as well, with this information.

Hi there, I have seen some posts on internet, concerning connecting an external CRT Monitor with a Laptop computer. They pretty much said that there might be a blue cable with, and one can use it to connect that monitor with laptop. Now I am confused that mine monitor has two cables; one of which is blue and the other one is white, having three larger pins inside. Both these wires are connected to my desktop CPU. Now my question is that, it is obvious that the blue wire can be connected to my laptop but what about the other one, this wire is connected to the power supply of my desktop pc, and when it comes to laptop, would mere one wire (blue) suffice for the electricity or other things? Thank you for reading, waiting for your replies. Thanks!

Now when I try to plug the VGA lead into my laptop, my laptop screen goes black.

I've been trying for hours to get my Lenovo Thinkpad notebook to connect to the monitor I use for my home computer. I have unplugged the cable in the computer and connected it to my notebook as I usually do to duplicate the screen across two monitors... Only this time it hasn't worked.
The main reason why I want to do this is because my notebook display looks stretched on the notebook screen but when I connect it to the external monitor it always goes normal. This is something that also doesn't want to change no matter what resolution the screen is or however many Google suggestions I read. Any help?
My notebook isn't registering that I have connected the monitor. I have tried changing it from PC to AV and back again, pressing Fn+F7 simultaneously which usually does the trick, and I also tried pressing the windows button on the keypad and 'P' simultaneously but the mouse only briefly shows an hourglass next to it then nothing happens!!
In the setting 'connect to an external display' it doesn't detect that there is an external monitor plugged in. If anyone knows any miracle tricks I would really love for their advice!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Dear all,

I am encountering the following problem and would very much appreciate your help with it: I am using an somewhat dated IBM ThinkPad (R50e), which I'd like to run with an external monitor.

Now, I have connected the monitor (Fujitsu Siemens Scenicview A19-3A) to the external monitor connector using a DVI - VGA/SVGA/XVGA monitor adapter. I have then switched the display output location to "LCD & external (CRT) monitor" using the Fn+F7 key combination, but the external monitor seems not to receive a signal (at least none that he'd be willing to transform into some type of display) -- it remains all black.

I also installed the monitor device drivers from Fujitsu on my laptop, but to no avail.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be and how I might be able to get the external monitor to work with my laptop?

Thanks a lot in advance!

A:How to connect external LCD monitor to laptop (IBM ThinkPad R50e)?

You just need to push the plug in securely (even tighten the thumb screws, if it has any)
Then turn on

It should default to the external, straight away
If not use the Fn+F7 keys as you said (note: I haven't downloaded your manual to confirm this)

By the way, the monitor works normally, and all, doesn't it ?

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Sounds complicated (To me anyway)

I'm running Windows 7 64bit with 2 video cards (NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and NVIDIA GeForce GT 240) as I use 3 monitors.

My TV is located where it is not possible to run a cable to it from the PC, It is however beside a CAT5 box that is connected to a CAT5 box beside my PC.

I use a TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router for my PC and wireless access upstairs.
It is connected to a Belkin Share wireless router set up purely as an access point downstairs via the 2 cat boxes mentioned earlier for wireless access and a wired connection to my xBox.

I want to use one of the spare video card ports to connect to my HDTV
I have a HDMI output on the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and a DVI output on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 that are not in use.

I think HDMI is the way to go as I believe I can use a S/PDIF cable to connect my motherboard to my NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and so I will have audio as well as visual.

My question is:
Can I use a HDMI to CAT5 converter, connect a HDMI cable to the video card output, connect one end of a CAT5 cable to that, the other end to my TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router (Which is connected to my Belkin Share wireless router)
Take a CAT5 to HDMI converter and run a HDMI cable from my Belkin Share wireless router to my HDTV?
Is it possible to do this via a router at all?

Any help is much appreciated ..

A:Connect PC to HDTV via HDMI -> CAT5 -> Router -> Access Point -> CAT5 -> HDMI -> TV

Hi and welcome to TSG.

The HDMI to CAT5 converter most likely sends raw high speed serial video through all four twisted pairs of wires in the CAT5 cable rather than converting the video data to Ethernet compatible data packets. Any Ethernet router or switch would not know what hit it.

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

HDMI does not appear in the BIOS of the desktop PC. Simply not there so of course no options to enable or

Mine is not refurb - please scroll down and click specs. ( on link)

A:Monitor - hdmi possible?

Thanks, but I'm not interested in replacing at the moment.
Just wanted to know if I could improve the performance with this one.

Can't believe that your link is $60 cheaper than the one I have.

I've got a new 24 inch monitor
It's OK on VGA...
But on HDMI, the graphic output is really really poor
Text has a blurred edge at the bottom

I bought the monitor to us with my Apple Macbook Pro - the graphics are just as bad on that as well

Do I have a faulty monitor?

A:New monitor OK on VGA but bad on HDMI

I know that it's possible to use 2 inputs on the same monitor, as I have done iw tiwh DVI and VGA before. I want to hook up my Xbox 360 to the monitor via HDMI and my computer via DVI. Whenever I do this though, and try to switch between inputs using the button on the monitor, I don't get a signal. I'm just wondering if it's a limitation of my GTS 250. Any help is appreciated. Specs are below.

HDMI and DVI are both digital and your monitor probably is only able to switch between analog (VGA) and digital so you cannot switch between HDMI and DVI>>> That's my guess.

When I connect my notebook to the TV using HDMI the sound does not come from the TV it comes from the notebook. Also, when I go on to manage audio devices in my Control panel the TV does not show up even in the disable and hidden list. I am not sure if this relates to the issue but I have a code 10 on my HD audio driver if that does anything to affect the sound. Please help

A:No Sound from TV when i connect with HDMI

Hi: Yes, that is the problem (code 10). Since the graphics drivers are fine, let's not mess with those by running the graphics driver file. Let's just play with the HDMI audio driver file inside the Intel graphics driver. First, download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd line is for 64 bit. After you install 7-Zip, download and save, but do not run this graphics driver. This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp72370.exe After you download and save the above graphics driver file, right click on it, and select 7-Zip from the list of items. Have 7-Zip extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp72370). Once that is done, go to the device manager and click on the problem HD audio device. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC, and you should be good to go.

So my TV stopped working and I'm wanting to connect my PS4 to my computer monitor via HDMI. The problem is that I don't think my computer even recognizes my HDMI for some reason. I plug it in and get nothing, not even a notification of something being plugged in. I tried to connect it a few times when I first got the computer but it didn't work then either. I heard that All in One computers usually have a button you push to start viewing via HDMI, but I haven't found one.  As a last resort I tried turning off my PC, plugging my HDMI in and then starting my computer back up. Nothing.  Any suggestions?

@AlexSivef? There should be two more digits and possible a w at the end of the product name. Please post it. 1.  The complete Model Name. or Product Number. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.  The HP Recline, 27 TouchSmart and the Omni 27 have an HDMI input port that can be selected by the menu keys on the side of the display.   The HP AIO 23-1xx PCs do not have an HDMI input port, they have an HDMI output.

I am trying to connect my Laptop Dell XPS M1730 windows 7 (2x 8800M GTX cards) - to my HD ready TV from LG.

If I use a HDMI calbe directly from my desktop pc, it works perfectly (I don't even need to turn down my resolution)

But my laptop does not have an HDMI port. So I bought a DVI-D(single) to HDMI cable. And connected them up.
- The TV detected something. And then said "no signal" on the screen.
- My laptop screen went black when I connected.

Do anyone know how to fix this? Am I using the wrong cable?
DVI-Digital Single link to HDMI is the cable I am using.
The laptop has DVI Female connector.

The exact cable I am using below in the picture:

A:Can't connect DVI-D(single) to HDMI on TV

When you try this, what resolution and refresh rate is your monitor on your laptop running?

What is the native resolution of your TV?

I've seen some strange things when connecting up to a TV from a laptop where either the TV can't handle the resolution/refresh rate that the laptop is pushing out or the laptop can't push the right resolution/refresh rate.

It's an unlikely solution, given that you have good video cards in the laptop - but try this - set the resolution as low as you can set it - 1024x768 for example, and the refresh rate as high as you can - 75hz, for example. Then plug in the TV. If that works you may need to play around with the resolutions to see what happens.

Also, when you connect the laptop - and if the screen goes black on it - hit windows key + P, then hit the "right arrow" key on your keyboard once, and then hit enter. That might switch the display back to the computer - if it works you can then troubleshoot further.

HiI bought this laptop last week and have attempted to connect it to my TV to use as an external display as I used to do with my old Dell laptop but have been unable to do it. I know 'how' to do it but when I connect the HDMI, it just doesn't detect the signal so I am unable to select any of the options (Extend/ Duplicate etc). I have tried looking at the Graphics Properties to no avail. I just can't find the option to change anything that will actually make it worse. The HDMI cable definitely works (I have tried it with another device and it worked fine). Can I have some advice please? I'll also stress again that this is a brand new laptop suggesting that all drivers etc are up to date. ThanksAlex

A:Building a PC to connect to HD TV via HDMI

Personally I would go for a Gigabyte board if you can find one that suits your needs. I have generally found them to be better quality than Asus, you may well get similar answers from others on here, especially if you have that sort of money to spend on it.

maybe something like: which is a bit cheaper but probably better (in my opinion).

I also, personally, think ATI have the edge with graphics at the moment. I have always been a bit of an NVidia fan but the general concensus seems to go toward ATI currently.

What other specs are you looking at, I am assuming your are looking at around £1500-£2000 easy, for the full rig if you are spending that much on the graphics card and motherboard alone, wish I had that sort of money to spend on a PC haha.

I have an HP Pavilion 23-h109 TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC I'd like to output some movies and pictures from my computer onto my TV but there are only USB ports and no Video out  ports in this computer. The TV I want to connect to can take VGA and HDMI in.  It's not a smart TV, so there's no abilty to mirror as screen, etc.  so it will have to be a wired connection to the HP computer.   Is there a USB adapter that I can buy to connect the two?  Or some other method to send my video/audio output to the TV? Thanks

I've connected my HDMI-cable to my PC (graphic card EAH5770) and to my TV (Sony Bravia 26'', about three years old) but I can't choose the TV as my other display from Catalyst Control Center or from Windows' display preferences when they are connected. What should I do to get it to work?

EDIT: In other words my computer doesn't recognize the TV and I don't know why. And here's some specs if they help in any way.

A:Can't connect my PC (with EAH5770) to TV via HDMI

Confused. Do you have a display running already, and this is a second monitor? Or is this the only one?
I assume it is a second monitor, as you say you cannot see it, which implies you have a screen to see it on. try using ONLY the HDMI connection, see what happens then, ensuring that the TV is set to the correct input. I have a triple monitor set, and th eHDMI has had no detection problem so far. The only thin gI can think of is to change the first monitor to the second DVI slot. the 5770 should have 2 dvi and 1 hdmi i believe, one of the dvi is actually an alternative input for the HDMI.

Putting it simply ( I confused myself, there!) try just the HDMI. That should work fine, then plug in the second monitor.
If that does not work, or you get nothing for the HDMI, try the DVI in the second slot. Either way, should cure it.

Hi, when I was studying abroad, I was using a Samsung B2330 LCD monitor with the system which specs I have mentioned below. I have an HDMI cable that I used with that monitor and it worked like a breeze no problems. I even connected my PS3 to the same monitor but with a separate cable and that worked with no problems as well.

When I went back home I took the PC but I left the monitor behind. That's because I have the exact same model monitor at home. I connected my PC to the home monitor with HDMI but it doesn't display anything at all. The same problem with the DVI cable (To be honest I never used the DVI cable with the monitor abroad). I do get signal from the RGB cable without fail. Oh yeah, I also use the same HDMI cable I used abroad. At first I thought it was the cable's fault but I get the same result with 2 other HDMI cables as well. Plus all 3 HDMI cables work fine with my PS3, which also doesn't work with the home monitor. Now it cant be the monitor's HDMI port fault because my brother plays his XBOX360 on the same monitor through HDMI without problems.

The main problem is i'm not getting signals from both HDMI and DVI even though all my drivers are up to date. It cannot be the computer's HDMI port fault as well because it works when I connect it to my 40" Samsung LCD TV. I did not change the configuration of my PC at all from when I came back home and when I was abroad. Please help. Thank you.

A:Problem with HDMI and DVI on my monitor.

I'm probably wrong but what pops in my mind is Regions.
DVD's and DVD players are broken down into Regions of the World
a region 3 DVD wont play on a Region 1 DVD player.
when you install Windows it ask you what language and region/type keyboard setup to use.
can your PC and Monitor be fighting with each other since they come from different countries.

side note when I upgraded my 42 inch LCD Tv to HDMI cable---finally got a cable tv box that had a HDMI port.
I ran into issues with digital Content Protection my tv is older than my new cable tv box.
LCD TV put up warning that digital Content Protection wasn't detected
my HDMI cable works but not sure at what speed it running at.
cable tv provider told me to go back to using AV cable, but I stuck with HDMI.
cant really tell difference.

Sorry if this appears really stupid but I dont know much about graphic cards.

I installed a new graphics card EVGA Nvidia Ge Force 610. It has 3 ports DVI. HDMI & VGA.
I have 2 monitors. One is VGA only, and the main monitor is new and supports DVI. HDMI & VGA.

I though probably stupidly, that I could connect my main monitor to the HDMI port and the 2nd monitor to the VGA port and all would work fine.

After installation I decided to try just the main monitor first. I connected to the VGA port, installed the drivers and all is ok. I then changed the settings on the monitor to HDMI, plugged in the HDMI cable but just get a blue screen with a "No HDMI " box showing.

Please could someone tell me how to get the HDMI working.

Also Is this I though probably stupidly, that I could connect my main monitor to the HDMI port and the 2nd monitor to the VGA port and all would work fine.just stupid. Will I still need to use the DVI port with splitter cables to use dual monitors with extended display, as was my current setup.

Is there any way to make use of the HDMI and still have dual monitors. Thank you.

My HDMI cable works OK from laptop to TV. Its a BABZ HC007 BZ10714C high speed HDMItm cable with ethernet E321484

A:HDMI not recognised by monitor.

Did you remember to disconnect the VGA cable before switching to HDMI?

I have a feeling what you are running into is a hardware limitation of the card in that it can use either the DVI and HDMI or VGA port at the same time, but not the VGA and HDMI port at the same time. If that is the case the easiest solution is to pick up a DVI cable and you should be good to go. And no if that works you don't need a splitter of any kind to run dual monitors.
