Solved: recording a portion of audio from a video file running in windows mediaplayer problem

Q: Solved: recording a portion of audio from a video file running in windows mediaplayer problem

FOUND A FREEWARE (yes actually free, no ******** oh it's freeware until you've downloaded it then you find you actually need to pay to unlock the features you wanted) UTILITY CALLED MEDIACODER THAT DID WHAT I NEEDED.

Hi. Well basically what I was wanting to do was take a sample of some of the audio from a video file playing in Windows Media player to use in some music I'm making. (Purely for my own amusement, not for sale, no copyright infringement etc etc).

I have Ableton 5.02 and an M-Audio Firewire 1814 external soundcard. I foolish assumed there would be a setting in Ableton to simply monitor the output from WMP and record it direct. Apparently there is no such setting which surprises me somewhat. You can only monitor inputs from the soundcard. In effect I would be wanting to select the output of the soundcard to actually record what I'm hearing playing WMP on my speakers. Ableton told me it was only possibly with an extremely complicated workaround.

I did try simply plugging jack leads from the output to one of the inputs but the sound is distorted in a metallic manner. I have no idea why that is so what I decided was there has to be a simple way to left segments of audio from a video file.

I can't think how you can do it with WMP, so is there a simple piece of shareware/freeware I can use to take audio from video files? I don't want the whole of the audio I simply want a portion of it, preferably as a .WAV file of good quality. Surely there is a simple way?

Many thanks,

A: Solved: recording a portion of audio from a video file running in windows mediaplayer problem

It will basically record anything you can hear and save it as a WAV or mp3.

I am unable to record audio on my computer. I enabled the stereo mix but it still doesn't work. At this point I am using the sound recorder that came with windows 7. I want to download a free recorder but I need some advice on which ones won't install other programs on my computer. That's what got me into this predicament in the first place. I got a virus downloading a program and I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows. I used to use all audio recorder which I bought but it doesn't seem to be compatible with windows 7.

Some of files I think are corrupted. I have videos that are at least 20 minutes long but the Windoes Media Player only shows about 9 secons of it and then the player thinks it is done. However, the voice still continues on. I've tried checking the box for downloading the permissions and that should be the problem.

I just bought a new HP Pavillion and when I transfered my videos from my old computer to this new one, that is when I started having problems. Can anyone help?

It sounds like to me that you need some codecs. What type of video files are they. With that info i canlead you to what codec you need. Some music files and video files that do not play and give you the messeage about permissions are virus related.

Hi ,
I have some Windows Media Audio/Video files that were recorded from my web cam. I would like to be able to edit (remove)
some audio portions of these audio/video files without cutting out a section of the video. I have Windows movie maker but just alows me to cut the audio/video together. I also have Goldwave. This works great for audio files but does not support video.
Do you know of any programs that will allow me to do this?

I have just bought a webcam and want to record me playing my guitar along to songs on my pc.

My webcam only has the option of webcam mic and audio input, so all it records is just my guitar which is plugged into the pc, and not the music playing off my WMP

i was wondering if there is a program or anything that could take my video and my output sound and put it together as full video without having to put my video and audio together seperately and try to sync up ?

A:Recording Webcam video and Pc outout audio together ?

Well there are some advanced programs that can sync the video and audio for you but I've never seen any of these programs for free. However syncing the audio and video isn't all that difficult with some decent editing software -
This program can be a little complicated at first but there seems to be some decent documentation for it.

Please help. I posted previously and probably to the wrong forum. I have had a persistent problem with a trojan called Trojan.DL.Small.DTLZ and a worm called Worm.Leave.BD. Everytime I run Stopzilla these show up and I remove them. I'm not sure what all these are doing to my system but here are some symptoms. I have no system audio or audio icon in the system tray, nor can I hear internet videos, although volume works fine for mp3's played in mediaplayer and the internet videos are viewed with no problem. I did some online research on the audio problem and thought I had found a problem with Windows Service Pack 3. I reinstalled it and got my audio back for a time, but then the icon disappeared again and I lost audio. I'm assuming these viruses/worms are causing the problem but I can't seem to rid my system of them. I have had success with combofix in the past but now I'm getting an error that I don't have a compatible operating system. My system also is giving me problems connecting to the internet at times, althought there are no connectivity issues found. Various and sundry other little glitches have occurred, too numerous to mention, and usually go away. I have removed any applications which were recently added as I felt these might be causing a conflict or, indeed, had installed the virus in question. Nothing I'm doing seems to be correcting my problems and I am desperate for help. I tried running the dds script before posting but my system doe... Read more

Don't know what I've done. Wanted to do a video recording using "camera" from my windows desktop. Got tinkering in my audio settings to eliminate background noise cause there was all this "whooshing" wind type sound during playback. Now I have NIL volume on video recordings I do with my computer's app. The playback is so faint...I have done everything I can think of with the DTS audio...put the microphone up to 30.0+ decibels (the dot on the slider is at the top). I've gone into my realtek settings & everything is on full volume. I can't figure this out...I should be getting normal playback-full volume on sound like I was before I got adjusting the andrea filters to eliminate background noise. I unselected all of those, experimented with checking & unchecking one thing or another...still the same. I barely have any volume on playback yet all the volume bars are at 100. It makes no sense...I want to do a video message for my daughter who's expecting her first child to pass along some information about what to expect when you're expecting...& I've completely screwed up my sound recording. Even selecting to restore to defaults has had no effect.

I am looking for reliable web resource/freeware to use for audio/video chat recording /replay options.

As I search on internet , I find TeamViewer & Google+ Hangouts . Google+ Hangouts offer live broadcast of recording. I do not see this as good options.

Are there any built-in options within windows 7?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro SP3 fresh from a CD-rom onto an old machine my buddy put together for me years ago. I've already zeroed out, and formatted the (1) WD 500GB hard drive using NTFS.(The hard drive is brand new also.)

I put in the CD, and the Windows Setup portion completes. The machine then restarts, shows my bios boot screen, I hit F1, then gives me the "Press any key to boot from CD....." message, and just sits there. It won't start the GUI portion of the setup. If I do press a key and boot from the CD, it just starts the Windows Setup portion of the install from scratch.

I've re-tried the install probably 10 times now, and it just hangs at the "Press any key to boot from CD....." screen every time the install reboots after the Windows Setup portion.

What could be going wrong, I've installed Windows XP Pro many times now and never had a problem.(Guess I'm lucky... until now.)

Here's what I've done so far:
Installed HDD
Ran "write zeros to drive" from WD Diag. CD
Formatted HDD to NTFS
Windows setup ran and copied files
Sits at "Press any key to boot from CD....."

Asus CUSL2-C bios rev. 1009
Pentium III 466 mhz

That's all I know of the top of my head as I'm not at home, if you need more info please let me know. Thanks in advance.

ok, figured while I was looking around in this board, I might as well post about an issue I'm having when recording lets play videos on my pc.

the audio is rather glitchy and artifacty when recording the game play footage, yet when I play the recorded file back on my pc, the audio is perfectly fine in the recording. I'm wondering if maybe this is a bit of user error on my part that I'm just not aware of or something like that.

the program that I use to record my game play footage is OBS, or open broadcast system. while recording, the audio that my pc plays back to me sounds funky, glitchy, and artifacty during the actual recording, but its perfectly fine in the actual file after the fact, so I'm wondering if maybe my pc, or maybe obs is somehow trying to delay the audio, and maybe thats whats making things sound glitchy?? I legit have no clue, all I know is that it just does not sound quite right, yet always is after the recording is over and done.

anyone have any ideas, or is familiar enough with obs to know what might be going on here? I have to be honest, I have not the slightest clue whats going on that makes it sound so glitchy during the recording, yet is always fine in the recorded file after the fact.

A:glitchy audio when recording lets play videos, perfectly fine in video

I'll be honest mmd you sound like an audio nut a bit like myself. Unfortunately I don't use that software or that card and the problem to me sounds (no pun) like it could be as simple as the card slot or any cables you have hooked up in the machine and what you are hearing going in is different to what you are hearing going out could be due to something as simple as that.
So what do we do about it first obvious thing to me is to reseat that card after cleaning the slot and connectors - see this and pic.

Now as for the slots toclean them use a strip of old credit card (or any card thin enough some arebetter than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free cloth over theend dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin withbefore an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s andalso the contacts of the sticks or cards - not the stick but some lint freecloth of course. See my pic for the sick but please be very gentle doing it ifyou are in any doubt - please ask before doing it but I use this all the timeand have yet to damage anything
Then thoroughly check any cables and plugs sockets etc for what are known as dry joints - soldered joints that have drifted apart or cracked.

Next this could simply be the card circuitry so check it thoroughly for any caps that are bulged or have scorch marks on them or the board.

Download CCCP Codec Pack. After install make sure you reset user settings. Reboot and you should be able to play MP4's using the Classic Media Player included in the Codec Pack. This codec pack will let you play just about any media file. Don't worry about the Russian Looking page. The site is legit.
Go to Start -> Programs -> Combined Community Codec Pack and open the Settings manager.
Press "Next" to get to the second page.

So, I recently updated to Windows 10 - partially feel like that was a mistake now, but oh well. Most of the issues I have with it are just connected to it having different design than windows 7, and me being overly used to Win 7, so I guess it'll wear off.

There is, however, one severe problem I noticed when trying to play back some AVI files of CoD gameplay I had stored on an external harddrive. They played in Windows Media Player, but showed no video; in fact, it instead showed the musical note that is characteristic for when you play back files in WMB that are audio only. However, the audio from the AVI file still played. I know for a fact that the files aren't corrupt or so because they are playable on another computer of mine which runs on Windows 7, and they used to work just fine on this computer too before I installed Windows 10, *at least as far as I remember.*

And it's not just in WMP you only get the audio. Also when importing the files into Vegas pro 12 and After Effects CS6 I get a black video preview that only plays back audio.

And here comes the final crux: it's just some AVI files that you can't see the video of. After some testing and thinking I figured out that the files i couldn't play were AVI files recorded with Fraps, and the playable ones were recorded with Dxtory.

I'd love some thoughts on this if anyone has ideas, and if you want more info on some area in order to maybe understand what the problem might be, just tell me. Anything to get help! >... Read more

I built my own computer, keeping the CD-ROM drive, cd-rw drive, and hard drive. I had to reformat my old hard drive to get it to work. I installed XP Pro, and partitioned it into two parts, one 10 GBs, the other 20 GB. Windows installed on the 10 GB portion, and the 20 GB portion is empty. I would like to transfer all the files from the 10 GB portion to the 20 GB portion, but every time I try, it says I cannot because the system files are in use. I would also like to transfer all files from a hard drive in a really old computer that I am giving to a relative so I don?t lose all those files, the old old hard drive is 7 gb, and runs windows 98. I would like to transfer the entire drive, including all system and personal files so I have two OSs on the new computer, to the 10 GB portion of the newer hard drive

A:Transferring all files from one portion to another portion of partitioned hard drive

If you have not loaded a lot of programs yet ,
I suggest the easiest way is reload the xp to the 2nd partition
that will get you dual boot.
as you add programs ghost them to the 2nd OS
the copying of the other drive is little simpler
get seagate harddrive utility connect up the 2nd drive as slave
copy to the drive letter of your 2nd partition
no OS is running on 2nd drive you should be OK
ps watch out on startup XP may not like the file struction of this drive get ready to abort chkdsk ,you don't want this to run
as the other drive is probubly DOS file system

It is like the contrast is turned up very high and the color red, looks green!
The funny thing is, Windows MovieMaker does not have bad video or Quick Time or Picture View--only MP, so it doesn't seem like it is the new monitor.
I have spent hours trying to figure this out and found this forum--sure hope someone has a fix!

A:MediaPlayer 11 poor video

good news, it's not your monitor!! to play movies in media player you need codecs, me personally don't bother with that, only use media player for music and vlc media player for movies.

if you're interested, go to:

if you really want your movies to work in media player, have a look at these video codecs:

i've used k-lite a few years ago, worked perfectly:

New guy here. I have a small audio recording studio at home, using a Behringer B2 Mic and an associated Behringer MIDI interface via USB to my PCs sound card. Since hooking this thing up, recording, while extremely clear has been giving me this delay problem. Not even sure I would call it a delay but that's what the fine techs at Behringer are calling it.

Here is what I have. While recording into the mic, it will capture about 9 seconds before it begins repeating a portion of what is said previously, while NOT recording what I was continuing to say.

Example: Let's say I say this "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs back", it may capture this "The quick brown fox jumped over, jumped over, jumped over" while skipping the "the lazy dog's back".

I've checked every setting I can think of, have used two different recording softwares (eliminating recording SW as an issue), and have called tech support for both Behringer and Sony (Sony Forge Audio Studio 7.0).

It's almost as if it has some sort of threshold set where it then begins duplicating. Generally it is around 9 seconds, though sometimes way less.

If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I have allowed my email as well for any replies. Appreciate a copy there too.

I'm trying to Record Streaming Audio from a website, and none of the software I'm using is picking up the sound...The software picks up the mic, and line-in, but doesn't pick up the streaming audio, or anything that is being played on the computer.....I really need some help with this..I don't thinks it's the software...I have Nero Wave Editor, and a Sony Music Creator Software...Neither can pick up the streaming audio...

A:Problem Recording Streaming Audio

Set the default recording device to Stereo Mix if you have it.

Right click on the Microsoft Speaker icon in the task bar, select recording devices.
Right click anywhere in the window that opens and enable both "Show Disconnected" and "Show Disabled Devices" do you see "Stereo Mix" as an option? If so, select it and click the "Set Default" button.

There may be a Record Level luring under one of the tabs.

I was actually surprised by that very same thing recently in a live event-- solution was to click on the speaker icon (lower right- near clock) which opens a mixer. Mute the things you do not need for your recording-- that solved it for me.

I record music with my comp. I have a Lexicon Omega Interface. If you're not familiar with that it's a USB device that supplies phantom power to the microphone.

I also use USB headphones. I used to have no problem with any of these devices. I would open Cool Edit Pro to record and select the Lexicon as the recording device. Plug in the headphones, which would automatically mute the speakers, and then record.

Now when I hit record it doesn't record. Something is not being recognized. All the settings on the interface are correct.

I know this is better left to a home recording forum, and I have posted it there. I thought there might be someone here with an idea of why my devices are fighting with the computer and each other...and me.

It records the sounds but the wave form it creats is constantly changing its dynamic level. It even looks like that in the recorded wave form. Just signed up. I am looking for help for a little audio-cassette recording problem I am having. My band is in the process of making copies of our demo tapes (audio cassettes). The problem is that the album is approximately 43 minutes long, which makes it way too long for a 30 minute cassette tape. If we record on a 60 minute cassette tape there is too much extra space left over on the tape. Is there a way get the tape to end, or flip over at a certain mark like professional recorded tapes do???

any answers would be more than appreciated

I am currently using M.B. MSI-6368 which comes with onboard audio VIA AC97 codec running on XP professional edition. It was no problem with the sound output so that I can hear default welcome windows sound and all of CD, MP3 audio. The latest audio driver is what I am using is ver6.14.1.3870 VIA. However, when I want to try to record sound via microphone, it doesn't work. I had another machine got the same problem with same on-board VIA AC97 audio. I did check the control panel sound setting, I am for sure the mic volume control is not mute. But I can't playback the sound I recorded even the sound driver seemed to work for output sound. Does anyone has the same issue?? I did also try to both enable & disable BIOS legacy on-board audio but still no much help. Please let me if anyone has the same problem with using on-board VIA AC97 audio, thanks!!

Hi Guys!

I've just encountered a little problem which worked fine previously before formatting my PC.

I record a lot of games using Dxtory which is an application/game recording software. It allows you to select many audio channels to record, and I usually select a total of two channels, one for my microphone which is connected to my headset, and the other is for my windows default sound device (Realtek high definition audio).

After formatting and installing everything again, I am unable to record any audio with the windows default sound device unless I have it checked as default, in which case I cannot hear anything myself because I use a headset.

I hope this makes sense?

I should be able to record channels 1 (Microphone) & 2 (Realtek HD Audio) while having my headset (GamesCon 780) checked as default device. This is what I had before?

Any help appreciated!

You reinstalled Windows and the enhancer still doesn't want to work right. Seems like dfx audio enhancer doesn't want to play nice with your computer. If it was my machine, I'd find a different enhancer.

I have a VT4650 PCIe 1GB video card in an HP DC7800 running Win 7 Ultimate. Problem is I can't get sound out of the on-board audio from the MOBO. The on-board audio only exist in windows if the video card is NOT installed. The video card ONLY has HDMI audio that I can't use on my 42" NEC monitor (PX-42VR5HA).
I have done all the usual..
Disabled the HDMI auido
Try to add new devices (can't find on-board audio unless no video card), on-board audio is NOT listed in device manager just the HDMI.
Odd that a Video card with only DVI, VGA and HDMI outputs, would take over your analog audio components.
And if your wondering it's an emulator setup I'm using this stuff for.

Thank you,

A:Solved: Video Card Audio Problem

Check the BIOS to see if there is an option to enabled the audio, or "always enabled", believe it's F10 to get into the BIOS on those models.

If that doesn't work then you may need to update the BIOS, updates available here:!&qryterm=dc7800&search_searchtype=s-002

The video card has HDMI which also has audio support, so the audio chip in the video card is likely making the motherboard disable it's own audio as it's seeing a secondary audio device. It's not specific to digital vs analog audio.

A:Solved: audio recording and editing

MPeg3 said:

Can anyone tell me how to break up a very long recording of a cassette tape into tracks with either Audacity 1.2.3 or Cool Edit 2000? PegClick to expand...

Audacity has very good help files to fill in the details-- but the concepts are that once you have recorded the cassette into Audacity-- you can look for flat spots (quiet spots) between tracks. Highlighting the track will select it-- then just "save as" (in whatever file format you want). You can then either delete the section just saved and go on to the next track or make a note of where you left off and go looking for the next flat spot (highlighting only the current track you want to save).

Anything that looks flat is a candidate for closer scrutiny--- zoom in and take a look to be sure before snipping. The tools available in the program allow a great deal of precision.

I would recommend playing with a few shorter files at first, until you get the hang of it-- but Audacity is pretty easy after playing with it for awhile. (After a couple hours of playing-- you'll find yourself ready to try most everything.... Not that it isn't challenging, but the easy things you can figure out right away--- and the finesse will come with practice and experimentation.... Great program)
Good luck

A:Recording Audio Problem Dell Insipiron 14z (5423)

Hello. You have selected the correct one. Microphone Array is the internal mic. It is a pair of mics located in the webcam assembly at the top of the display screen.

The things you can try are
> Reinstall the IDT audio driver from the Inspiron 14z 5423 support page. When you get to that page, first select your operating system by clicking on the Change OS selector:

> Adjust the mic volume and boost. Here is a screen shot of the path, but on yours start from Microphone Array:

> If you have a program in your list of programs named Dell Webcam Central, open that program and find the microphone settings. Make sure the mic is not turned off.
If none of those things fix the mic, it could be damaged. To fix the mic array would require replacing the webcam.

Hi Guys, Im new in here, this is my first post at TechSpot. Id like to say hi to everyone, and I also have a problem.

I have Realtek HD Audio Manager, and I like it alot. All the sounds effects are easy to use and very useful. But what I just found out is that when I set the effects to like lets say Bathroom, that has all the echoes an all, and I record voice over it, and when I play it it all comes out alright. But when during play I change the effect to none, the recorded files effect also changes to none!
Its as if I nothing was captured with the effect, its just the voice, and you only apply the effect to a vopice afterwards.
So Im thriwing with unanswered questions like: Is capturing sound effects possible ( like record a file with the effect and hear it in another computer that has no such effects)? Can I work witrh this, can I make my own art with it (music, movies) and sell using ready made Realtek managers sound effects?
Any help would be appreciated

I use a ASUS PLDD2 something Motherboard, and in the Mixer, Recordings area, I dont have the option of tweaking the volumes of Mics, Lines, CD and the other one. Maybe its a related problem that I cant capture effects as well.

So thanks in advance again. Hope to hear from you.

I am having a problem with the visual part of videos not appearing in IE and Firefox. For instance, if I try to watch a video on YouTube, I get the audio but not the visual part. All I see for a visual part is either a solid green or solid black. But when I try to view videos in Google Chrome, all is well.

This has happened several times in the past and typically requires me to update Flash Player to resolve. But I updated Flash earlier this week and twice in one week seemed a bit much. However, I did a second Flash update a few moments ago but it did NOT help this time.

Am I going to have to give up on watching videos anywhere but Chrome? Or is there another solution that lets me watch in IE and Firefox again?

Hello and welcome theone mat try running this - you will need to make a bootable disk though Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

You might even try these if you haven't already - just to eliminate stuff < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

then these - I know you have cleared the malware but these take only a few minutes to so
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

Installed trial version of 'Replay media catcher5' , this also downloads the flv's complete with an image for each file downloaded so they can be identified. Which these are adverts attached to the video/program.

But niether records the actual video or shows any file being recorded/downloaded.

The TV channel is Ch4oD and youtube has the same video, but from the same source.

Any clues how to record the flv's and video, or just the video.

When playing any audio file (.wma, .wav, .mp3) I get the message that the file cannot be player : 0xC00D1199: Cannot play the file. Since I can play the file with e.g. MusicMatch, I can confirm there is nothing wrong with it.

Everything used to work fine, until I used a registry cleaner a while ago. Since then MediaPlayer doesn't seem to work anymore. I tried everything I could think of : uninstall/reinstall mediaplayer, regsrvr32 on all DLLs, reinstall the codecs (Fraunhofffer II). I even tried to downgrade to mediaplayer 7, but then windows told me there was no need, since I had all the necessary tools already installed (and I just uninstalled MediaPlayer 9 !).

Does anyone know what is going on and what I can do to solve this ?

Probably some of you will suggest to simply use another audiotool. This is what I am doing right now, but I would like to know what is going on and how I can solve it.

Any suggestions ?

I just purchased a Kodak Z1012 IS EasyShare camera. I am pleased with all functions except I cannot successfully record HD (720p) video. The video does record and playback accurately on the camera, but it doesn't play back properly on any outside source. When I try it on my computer the video plays very choppy and is at half speed or slower. The audio is accurate. I initially thought my SD card was the problem so I upgraded to a class 4 card and there is no change. All other video resolutions record and playback normally. I have tried to play this back using WM, Realplayer, and Quicktime and the video plays the same on all of them. I have also used 3 different computers including a brand new laptop with full HD capabilities, no difference between any of them. All of the software programs are fully up-to-date as well. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I can try to make this work?

I just found that if I take the SD card out of the camera and access the files directly from the card, they play normally. I would prefer being able to transfer them using EasyShare as it is a much quicker process. Any ideas why the videos don't transfer properly via EasyShare?

I recently got an EasyCAP-DC60 capture device. When I first installed it, it worked just fine with composite video input, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the composite video, so I got an s-video cable. Now whenever I try to capture using the s-video cable the image may come in for a short period of time, but always goes out within a minute. I noticed that this coincides with the number of line detected. It starts off as a lower number (around 525, I believe), and then when it increases to a higher number (around 625 I believe), the image goes out, and I have to disconnect and reconnect the EasyCAP-DC60 capture device to reset it. I'm running XP Pro and use the NTSC-M video format.

Last night I recorded a DJ set, 2 channels in 24/96 and the computer failed about 3 hours into it. I?m not completely sure why. I was using a new app for recording Vegas 9.0. I have used SF 10.0 and used it to complete the night. The computer should be able to handle it. Back in 05 I recorded multiple times never an issue with a single core P4 4 channels at 24/96, 7 plus hour sets (different audio interface) .
I know there a number of professionals as well as hobbyist that might know of ways to tune a windows computer by turning off any unnecessary windows apps or other tweaks so I can have more resources for recording.

A:need to tune windows 7 for recording audio

I have a recording studio (using Sonar X2 Professional 64 bit version).

I doubt that its a Windows OS issue. Other programs running can eat into memory and CPU time but I doubt that it would cause the PC to bomb out. Either a problem in the recording program or a hardware issue would be my guess.

I had one of those low cost Rosewill cases. It didn't last long and was replaced by a much better Coolermaster.

Overheating comes to mind as the first possibility. My recording studio system is an Intel i7 3770 CPU with 16 GB of G.Skill Ripsaw RAM, but I've never used over 6GB and that was with several midi channels along with several analog audio channels. I have a Corsair H80 liquid cooler for the CPU, for both cooling and to reduce fan noise. i'm using a Coolermaster case with plenty of (low noise) fans. I record at 24 bits, 44.1Khz (which is mixed down to 16 bit, 44.1Khz CD standard).

Some searching through google, "alternativeto", YouTube, for video and audio editing or recording software, FREEWARE, showed BandiCam, Screencast-o-matic, Audacity, and I've been aware of Windows Movie Maker.
I would like to be able to make audio adjustments and audio changes to a few screencast videos.  I do not really undestand Audacity; but tried learning it many years ago.  I am absolutely not confident nor comfortable with learning Movie Maker; I am not sure how to handle Bandicam, having tried it briefly many many months ago.  I am comfortable with and have used Screencast-o-matic, the free downloadable version, a few times, and it was fairly easy to learn and to use.  I would just like to learn and use something a little bit more clever than Screen-cast-o-matic, and to edit or make changes to some video recordings.  FREE/FREEWARE wanted.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, and as such I have no clue where to post this, so, as I'm using vista, I figured I might as well post it here. Mods, please move this to the appropriate forum.

So, I'm using audacity, and recording the audio playing through my computer. Essentially, I'm recording what's coming through my speakers. The sound itself is crisp and clear. Upon playback of the recording, the dialogue is very hollow, and if there's music, the notes have a lot of static with them.
I have tested several things, including changing my Sterio Mix volume and quality. It's currently set at 16 bit 44100Hz. I have tried increasing the Hz, but that actually reduced the quality.

To sum it up, the original output is excellent, but the recording is low quality. Could anyone help with this? Thanks.

First of all, I would like to congratulate and thank all the Admins, Developers and Tech enthusiasts on this forum/site for dedicatedly and painstakingly helping, solving and resolving issues and troubles of tons of people around the globe saving them time and money. This is really appreciable.

My Issue:
I have a large number of audio and video karaoke files (more than 25,000) in one folder and the lyrics of them in another as text or image files. When I have to play Audio/video file without the lyrics, I have to manually locate the Lyrics/image file to sing along.

I was wondering if somehow I could be able to open the lyrics file (text/image) when I click the audio/video file. So when I double click on an audio/video file, the associated text/image file would also open along with it (Like mp3 file is a hyperlink to text file).

Some mp3 files have text lyrics which I can open in Winamp. But creating/converting all audio/video with lyrics will take years for me taken into consideration the number of songs I have. Please enlighten and help me with this issue.
Thank you for your time and efforts. Cheers~!

I follow a series that only streams webisodes- youtube, hulu, and I even bought the amazon video episodes.

I tried to record the hulu Episode using fraps, but it condensed the files into like 8 seconds(should be between 4 and 10 minutes) and they are fast forwarded immensely. It has never done that before.

I successfully fraps'd the first of 2 episodes from the amazon unbox player. The second, however, is extremely dark and off colour to the point where it's unwatchable and the player is not allowing me to adjust brightness- I drag the icon around and nothing changes.

Amazon allows "portable"- wmv files DRM'd up @$$- to be downloaded which I tried. VLC, my media player of choice, cannot play them. it just crashes.

I also tried simply opening these files in AVI2DVD and that gave me an error:
"[] ($C00D0BBE)" and crashes.

can anyone help me out with any of these problems? be it getting VLC to play those DRM'd files, a means to record or download hulu or youtube videos, or enlightenment regarding this freakish error on fraps's part? thank you.

Hello! This is my first post here, as this is my first issue with this computer. My microphones won't pick up any sound- this computer has two different ones, an integrated one and an outer one, and yet neither work. Troubleshooting only picks up whether they're enabled or not, and I've tried recording after enabling them and disabling them, restarting, etc. I've checked with Beats Audio and they're turned on there as well, and the drivers say they are up to date. Yet nothing is working, when I used to voice recognition test it wouldn't even pick up any outside audio. I should note that the webcam doesn't work as well, because when I bought it, it would disconnect the internal camera often, and when trying to fix it, someone uninstalled the driver or something - though at the time, audio still recorded just fine and I didn't need the webcam. IDT High Definition Audio CODECIntel(R) Display Audio If any other information is needed, please let me know! Thanks for everything.

Hello katrapezo.  I understand you're having some trouble recording audio. Have you tried recording in another application such as Sound Recorder?  I'd also like you to remove your audio drivers and allow Windows to reinstall them.  Here are the steps.Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.Right click on your sound card and select "Uninstall."Reboot your computer.Verify whether the problem persists. Also, what is your notebook's product number?  This document can show you where it is located.Have a wonderful day.

I recovered few deleted mpeg video files using recuva undelete from my 8 yr old windows pc. Few of the files are very fine but few important ones have only audio running and there is no video in it. Pls suggest what to do. i tried different players like vlc, real player, window media etc but all are running audio only.

can anyone suggest what to do so that i may get and see video also ? or is there any better video recovery tool ?

A:recovered video file has no video but only audio

As you had to "recover" the files, and not simply copy them off the HDD, I'll state the obvious, the files are damaged. The fact that they have audio, would indicate the recovery software did it's job.

Open the files using gSpot or MediaInfo and see if the files can be properly identified.

I?m running Windows XP, and my default media player is Windows Media Player 11. After I downloaded a video clip (properties: audio format MPEG Layer-3) and played it, widows media player opened, and at the bottom it says ?acquiring codec? then ?codec acquired? but all I get is sound, no video. A friend of mine downloaded the same file from the same link, and they didn?t have any problems (but I don?t know what operating system or media player they?re using). However, after I downloaded Media Player Codec Pack, the video played back just fine.

My question is: how do I know if it?s a problem with the FILE or with my SYSTEM (possibly my media player)? I wanted to burn the file onto a CD, but I?d like to know up front if the file is going to play correctly on my friend?s PC or not. This is the first time I?ve ever encountered this problem, and admittedly don?t know a great deal about the ins and outs of video files, codecs and players.

A:Can you tell me why a video file would only play audio, no video?

You may be not happy with my reply, but I'd dump WMP and start using VLC Player: has all necessary codecs built in.

I recently downloaded a couple avi files, and when they open up in Windows Media Player, they just provide the audio. I ran a codec search (because is said that there was an error downloading codec) and it said that: DivX v3 MPEG-4 (Low-Motion) were Unsupported. I don't know what this means or how to fix this so I can watch the file as well as listen. Any help would be much appreciated!

After a lot of net searching I have found the solution.
It is not understandable why DELL does not provide drivers for Inspiron N5110 for Win 7 32 bit?
Me and a friend of mine recently got the Inspiron N5110 laptop with i3, 3gb, 500 gb. We installed win 7 64 bit as only its drivers were listed on the website.
But 64 bit causes problems while running hi-tech softwares like Matlab and Xilinx (Yes, I am an engineer ). So I had to move to win7 32 bit.
But Win7 32 bit drivers are not available on web. My friend got a solution for this. He found that almost all the win7 32 bit drivers for Vostro 3350 and 3550 are compatible for Dell Inspiron N5110. I download and installed them and they are working on my laptop very well.
You need the following drivers. The actual files are named like R161139,exe, no description. the description is added by me.

Hi. At this point i'm just curious what BS is behind this. Asus P5N-Deluxe Quad2Core 2.8 16gb DDR2 800 BFG GTX 280 Vista Ultimate 64 Enough space left on all drives I have a pretty decent machine. I have 16 gigs ram and its pretty rare that i use up all of that ram at once. Yet every once in a while I go to watch a video on my computer and i get "Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, then try again." --seems laughable The behavior is that the video plays, but there is no audio (WMP) - But it will also not have audio in VLC or anything else - basically its like the issue is universal and the only way i can watch any video with any audio is by rebooting my system. It doesn't matter if i free up tons of ram (trying with 12 open right now, and no go). Its constant until i reboot. Does anybody know what this is and how to get rid of it?

I am having trouble figuring out the best method and freeware to use to do something that seems on the surface to be the most basic and straightforward process regarding audio/video files: Syncing up two separate files (Audio & Video)

I recently filmed a presentation, but from the very back of the auditorium the speech was totally unintelligible - BUT, I also have the native audio file recorded directly from the speaker's microphone: SO, I have both HD audio and video, BUT, I don't know how to connect the two so the audio syncs up with the speaker's lips.

Please let me know a solid method and Windows7 based freeware to make this simple task happen, THANKS SO MUCH!!

Here are my basic computer specs:
Microsoft Windows XP [Home Edition]
Version 2002, Service Pack 2
VAIO Computer w/ Intel Pentium M processor 1.73 GHz; 1.00 BG of RAM
Harddrive currently has 22 GB of free space

And my basic problem is that I notice a major lag whenever I try to play any audio or video. The rest of the programs are usually fine, although they sometimes run slow when starting up, or at random moments. It's obvious right away - as soon as i turn on my computer and windows starts up, that tone that the computer plays is very slow and doesn't play through smoothly... kinda skips and glitches out. My start up time is also rather on the slow side. I can play video ok, but it tends to have freezing moments and the audio gets skippy and jumbled and just slows. Depending on what my CPU is 'supposedly' doing the the background, the file can run fine, but then start to slow for a few moments, then catch itself and resume running smoothly again. I notice it is worst with itunes. I tried starting up my pc, not running any programs (once windows was all loaded up and ready) except itunes, then tried to play a song. Boy... was the response time awful. Couldn't even play one song through without the skipping and hesitation. This is just really bothering me. I've tried just about everything I could think of, other than totally reinstalling windows and starting from scratch (major last resort!). Please check my hijackthis log file. I'm really... A:Video streaming on the net appear choppy and jerky while audio is running smoothly

Unfortunately I don't have any inspiring ideas, just some standard ones that I can suggest.

A) Make sure you haven't set the battery settings to low. I know on my lap top if I have it set to the power-saving setting than everything runs pretty poorly.

B) Update video card drivers. Usually my first suggestion for anything video related. Or, if you just updated them, roll back to an older version.

C) Make sure you don't have a lot of stuff running in the back ground. Did you download something recentley and then this started happening? Make sure it isn't doing funny stuff in the back ground.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Like I said, it's nothing unorthodox, really, but hopefully it might help.

My mediaplayers (real+wmp9) have stopped playing mpeg-video files. They have no problem with avi or wm video files but just with mpeg format. I do not get an error message but the player is continuously "seeking" everytime I try and play them. These files work however with alternative player like vlc.
I have done the following but still have the same problem:
1. Downloaded latest directx
2. Downloaded latest drivers for graphics card
3. Updated to mp10, and reinstalled realplayer
4. decreased hardware acceleration,
5. Reinstalled codecs
Any ideas ?

Hello everyone. I am using a old-ish Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. So, every time I'm playing songs on YouTube, then open FL Studio 10, FLS 10 won't let me play or record any audio. When I look at the "ASIO4ALL" box it has A little red "X" on audio output(I use "Realtek HD Audio" if that helps). Now when I stop the internet audio/YouTube and restart FLS 10, the little red "X" is gone and all the sound works... I was wondering how to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10 is there something I can tweak with the laptop audio or some better sound program I can download free(or not free)and not have to get a new sound card??? Hello - this is my first time posting, so I hope I can provide as many details as possible. Last week, I started receiving "alerts" from "av2009" claiming to be an antivirus software and it wanted my credit card info saying my PC had been infected. This, obviously was spyware or some adware thing. I upgraded my webroot antivirus and spyware since it had expired Nov., and it found a bunch of trojan horses and other viruses that I have no idea how they got onto my hard drive.

Since then, there's been this mysterious audio file running saying "congratulations, you have been selected to win a free laptop computer". While this is funny, it's driving me crazy. Both yesterday and today, my AV software (webroot) has found one bad virus each day. I have deleted them of course, but the audio file is still running!

The irony is, I don't know when it's going to run or why - I haven't found a pattern or noticed that it's when I do something in particular. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?

Also - why did I get a virus two days in a row if 1 - My firewall is ON and 2 - I have antivirus and spyware software?

Any insight you have would be great!

I'm looking for a way to extract audio from video files. What program do I use? What I mean is to turn audio from a video file into a PURE audio file which can be used to make an audio CD, etc.

A program like Audacity with the whole Stereo mix option does not work for me... bad drivers.

So it looks like I need a program that will literally allow me to EXTRACT the audio, not merely record it.

Please help me find a program! But I'll also need instructions on how to use the program since I'm usually not good with those things!
