Hi. I recently bought a new KWORLD TV capture card and am planning to install it in a computer running Windows XP. I was wondering if I will have the ability to expand the picture to full screen if my desktop resolution is set higher than 640x480, or will it have to be viewed in a smaller window?

I realize this is not a tech support question per se, but this is one of the only places I've found where people seem to be knowledgeable about this particular brand of capture card.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi there, I've looked and cant find anything...maybe one of you do. Is there a way to have a VB program capture ALL keyboard input? I wrote a program to prevent my kids from randomly clicking things, which works unless they get the windows key which bypasses the whole point of the program. Eventually I will rewrite in VC++ so any help towards that would be appreciated as well

Hi All,

When I start loading my programming compiler, it has started showing a bar-graph of something loading as well. I have been using this compiler for years and never seen this thing before today.

Unfortunately it flashes by so fast I can't see what it is.

Other than taking a video of the process, is there any way to slow down or capture a stream of screen shots so I can see what it is loading?

Hey everybody:

I'm looking for a free Print Screen application for Windows XP. Now before you say anything, I've already used PrintKey (which I ended up having issues with) and Gadwin PrintScreen 4.3. Gadwin is pretty good, but my boss didn't like it very much. I'm just looking for an efficient, and more importantly, simple/easy-to-use (because of the users' computer literacy) screen capture utility.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I need to set up Windows Server 2003 and an XP client in Virtual PC console and document as I do so.

I thought the easiest way would be to perform screen captures using Alt + Print Screen, unfortunately, it isn't capturing the Virtual Console window when I have it active.

I've tried capturing other active windows, programs and web pages and it works as normal, allowing me to paste straight into Word.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I have been trying to use both the Snipping Tool and the Print Screen keys to capture an image of the drop down list (and sub drop down lists) that appear under Tools in Firefox.

But when I open the drop down menus, and click on either the Snipping Tool icon, or the Prt Scrn key, the opened drop down menus collapse back up into Tools.

How can I capture an image of what the drop down lists look like?

A:[SOLVED] How to capture screen shot of drop down menus?

Hi cashcqshel,

Hopefully this is what you mean?

When Firefox is first open, press ALT once and release. You should now see the toolbar appear at the top of the page. Click on Tools to show the sub-menu and move the mouse away from the area (without clicking) unless you wish to expand further menus within the sub-menu, so it's not shown in the screen capture. Now just hit Prt Scr and dump the image (CTRL+V) in to Paint (hit CTRL+V when Paint or PS is open) or PS and crop what you want out.

I was using Firefox v6.0.2

I need a video-capture utility that will also let me record sound from the speakers. I want to capture a webcast for later review. (It's an online class that I teach, but I want to "sit in" on a class with a more-experienced instructor and learn from his presentation. He's fine with this. I've tried to get him to just record his presentation but he's busy and hasn't gotten around to agreeing to it.)

I've tried several utilities that claim to do this, but I can't make it work on any of them. I can record with the microphone, but the mic doesn't record the speakers very clearly. I'd much rather get the audio right off the sound card.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is even possible with my hardware. Apparently many manufacturers are blocking this capability to prevent people from ripping music illegally. I've tried it on an XP Home SP3 system with a Realtek HD card, a Vista Home Premium SP1 system with Conexant HD SmartAudio, and an XP VM in VMware. None of them seem to offer the speakers as an input option -- only the mic.

Is there any way to do this, if the mic is the only input shown? Would it work to patch the headphone jack into the mic jack, or is the signal the wrong level? I'd try it but I don't want to risk damaging my mic input.

A:Solved: Screen video capture with sound from speakers?

I kept digging on this, and I figured out that my VMware XP system has a "Stereo Mix" input device. This input device will allow me to record from the speakers. My XP SP2 desktop and my Vista laptop don't have equivalent devices, so apparently they can't record the speaker sounds.

Now I just need to find a capture tool that actually works. I tried CamStudio and it was unusable. Within 20 seconds of recording, the audio and video were 8 sec out of sync. I just hope that's not a limitation caused by VMware scheduling, or I'm hosed.

Worst case, it appears to be safe to patch the line-out (headphone) jack into the mic jack. I might have to do that.

Hi all,
Been having a few computer troubles, last couple of days. Up until now, I have never had a computer crash since building my machine. Occasionally I've had to force-quit a program, but never random crashes.

I've had 6 in the last day or so, though. And none of them have happened with a BSoD. The last one to happen was while watching a movie. I Ctrl+Alt+Del'd and it got stuck showing a message "preparing security options..." with the time-circle(?), but never progressed past that point.

They all seem to happen at random, regardless of what I do. When playing full-screen games, watching full-screen movies, or even just sitting idling. I've tried updating my MOBO BiOS, my gfx driver, tried taking out and setting the RAM again, and even ran a full-system scan with both anti-virus and with CCleaner.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what I should do.

I tried to upload the files from the SF_Diagnostic_Tool, but got a message saying I didn't have the correct Security Token?

If there's any other information that you require of me, please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm having a problem with BF2 where the game will crash with a
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error, right after the logo screen. The game doesn't enter full screen mode.

The first time I saw this error was when I was playing around with BattleRecorder (BF2's own recording engine), and I tried to launch a movie in BattleLauncher. This throws the error described above and I can't run BF2 again without getting the error until the computer is RESTARTED (no logoff and back on). I searched for a way to make Battlerecorder work and I gave up. But, the problem now seems to occur when Battlefield 2 is run for a second time. For example, if I turn on the computer, run BF2, play, close BF2, and try to play again without a restart, it crashes. I tried multiple things to fix this problem, and I eventually ended up downgrading my nvidia drivers to 84.21 (i was running 84.25 beta).

I THOUGHT this fixed the problem, but I must have only tried to open the game once when I went and downgraded the drivers, because it still happens. The only things I have installed recently are xfire, and I remember that that program threw me the error whenever I clicked somewhere inside the program to launch BF2 (xfire has a feature to launch bf2 for you so you can play with a friend). I suppose I should uninstall xfire... I'll try that now.

Ok what is going on here is your screen is set to a smaller size in game then in windows.
If you check your windows settings you will see something like 1440x900 then look at the setting in game it may end up being 800x600. See the difference.
Also what game are you trying to play, I know that most steam games you need to enable the widescreen support in game then you can change the resolution to the correct size for your screen.

Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong section - I couldn't find a dedicated video section. Anyway:

Firstly, I'm running a bug free and competent AMD Phenom II x6 machine with an ATI 6870 and 8 gigs of ram. Hard drives have plenty of space and there aren't any hardware faults. Everything tends to run fine.

Since I installed Silverlight to use LoveFilm streaming, though, fullscreen viewing inexplicably stutters!

Solutions tried:Reinstall GPU driver (cleaning it with driver sweeper, CC cleaner etc)
Reinstall Silverlight
Uninstall windows update that installed original silverlight
Reinstalled it again
Turned off any custom video settings in the ATI Catalyst
Tried using IE, FireFox (currently use chrome)
Tried increasing amount of space Silverlight can use
Tried turning hardware acceleration on in the Silverlight options

I can't think of anything else. It doesn't matter if the film or TV show is HD or SD, full screen will stutter. My native resolution is 1920x1080, as per, and my refresh rate is 60hz. No clashes there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Note I've tried Silverlight 4 and 5, both cause the same problem.

My video card is a GeForce GTS 250. The rest of my specs are attached below.

When I run games in "Full Screen" mode the picture is terribly pixelated. When I run these same games in "Windowed (Full Screen)" mode the picture is perfectly fine. On rare occasions I can randomly adjust the in game video options and eventually the pixelation will go away as long as I do not minimize or exit the game. The same video options never work twice to get rid of the pixelation. For example, one time changing the resolution worked and one time changing the refresh rate worked, but following those same steps doesn't work consistently.

I sometimes use a remote desktop app (Splashtop) for my iPad to connect to my desktop and run these games. When I do this the picture is perfectly fine on the iPad (even in "Full Screen" mode), but still pixelated on the desktop. When I take screenshots of the pixelated screen, the screenshots show no pixelation, but instead a perfectly good looking screen.

My monitor is a 40 inch Sony Bravia EX400 TV. My video card is connected to the TV by a DVI-HDMI cable.

Hi there... I've run in to an issue that I can't seem to overcome here. When trying to play MP4 files in full screen my WMP and VLC go kind of wacky. It usually happens after a few minutes of playback, where if I try to reduce the size from full screen the video will go black or there will be white bars on the top and bottom portion of the player. Most of the time, I cannot continue playing the video, WMP will not crash but VLC does. What is even more odd is the fact that my task bar screws up a bit as well. I have tried other file types and haven't run in to any issues so far but will be testing in a few minutes here as well. Here is a picture of what it does:

I downloaded Media Player Classic which does seem to work well for now but it would be nice to get my other players in working condition without having to re-install Windows 7.

Steps I've taken to overcome:
Fresh install of Nvidia drivers
Disable/re-enable WMP
Uninstalled all codec packs (that I could find)
Installed the Shark Codec pack
Uninstalled VLC, cleared registry settings and re-installed.
Checked PSU, RAM, SSD's, GPU and CPU for issues with no problems reported with OCCT.

My system:

ASUS Rampage III Formula
Intel i7 970 Hexacore
12 GB G-Skill Ripjaw 1600 RAM
2 Samsung EVO SSD (1x 120GB, 1x 240 GB)
1 WD Black 640GB
1 WD 500GB
ASUS Nvidia GTX 770SC
FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface

Thanks in advance if anyone knows and can help with a solution to this strange issue!

I heard that a full HD quality game named Train Simulator was demonstrated at Japan Int. Contents Festival last week.
Are there any other full HD resolution games?
When can I get more improved realistic image quality games like UHD, 4Kx2K or 8Kx4k?

A:Solved: full HD screen resolution for game

I think you have misunderstood the HD definition. HD is a TV format, that enables a higher quality picture on a TV. A computer monitor is capable of much higher resolutions- I use 1900x1200, depending on which HD you are using this is up to about 12 times better than HD. Keep it on your monitor, set the res as high as reasonable, and it will be an awful lot better thna any HD

If I click on a thread, I get the response in a full size window on my 19' LCD monitor.

However, if I right click on a thread and click on "open in new window" I get a window about 2 inches too small on all 4 sides, I can click on the maximize option and make it a full size window, but I'd like to find a way to cause it to open full size.

I tried draging the window to make it full size and holding the shift key when closing it, to no avail.

A:Solved: How to open full screen in new window?

Open the secondary screen and resize it as you have described. Now, switch to ALL the other IE instances and close them, making the newly resized screen the last IE window closed. It'll now open at the new size.

So, I'm trying to make this old computer limp along and serve as a home theater PC. Having a problem I hope you can help with.

I've tried viewing videos on the internet in full screen mode and it's not working. I've tried it with YouTube videos, Xfinity videos and the live stream of the Eagle's Nest from Decorah Iowa. No online videos seem to work in full screen. They work just fine with the regular view, but as soon as I hit that full screen button, the screen goes blank and I can just hear the video.

I've also tried it with Firefox (what I prefer to use), Internet Explorer and Chrome. No browser works.

I've connected the PC to my TV using S-Video.

Here's the specs I THINK you'll need, let me know if you need more.

Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3
NVIDIA GeForce MX 420 video card
S-Video Connection
Firefox version 3.6.13
The only "add-ons" to the Firefox currently are the extension Norton IPS and Norton Toolbar

It's all a fresh install of Windows for the most part. Installed a few thing here or there after the fresh install. The only thing I installed that I think might have an effect on this is VLC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I work 8-5 Central time, so I won't have access to my computer then, but any other time, I'll be checking up to see if there's any new help ideas.

Please help me! My wife has mocked my HTPC idea from the get go and I need to get it up and running!

A:[SOLVED] Full Screen Not Working from any Browser

First, I would upgrade your Firefox. You are quite out of date. If you don't want version 4 yet, update to 3.6.16 (I think that's the latest). It probably won't help this problem but there have been bug fixes and security patches. It's always a good idea to keep your browser as up to date as possible.

I'll leave the rest to someone else, but if you could give us all of the specs on your system that would help. Also, is this a desktop or a laptop?

Try upping the pixel display in control panel (display settings) If you are running at 640 X 480 the go up to 800 X 600, and then 1024 X 768.

This usually work on all the Tosh laptops I have to deal with. I'm assuming that Compaq's are the same.

About 8 weeks ago I received a brand new GTX 580 from EVGA due to my previous one having a hardware fault. The new card was working fine until I reinstalled Dawn of War 2 through Steam. During a game of Last Stand I had a BSOD, the first for over a year. I tried to play again and it happened again. After giving up with Dawn of War 2 I tried X-Com which worked fine the previous day. This now results in a BSOD. Full screen videos through VLC work fine, as do very old games such as OpenTTD.

Thinking it was a driver problem, I tried the last 3 generations of Nvida drivers and this made no difference. I have also reinstalled Windows 7 in desperate hope however this has not fixed the problem. When trying to get the Windows system rating to rate my system, it gets part of the way through then the next thing I see is the computer rebooting. Whether this is a BSOD I don't know but either way I am unable to.

I have looked at a few other forums and read that it could be an error with motherboard or PSU. Either way I followed the instructions and attached is the info collected. My system details are as follows :

I know this a problem that has been discussed before, but I don't seem to have solved the issue using the advice provided.

Basically, the little VIEW FULL SCREEN icon [arrow in a box] underneath the screen refuses to be active, and thus I cannot click on it to make the video image fill up the entire laptop screen, ie the controls disappear from sight unless I so desire.

Nor can I simply ALT + ENTER to achieve the same end.

I should note that this is a newfound problem which seems to have materialised shortly after I switched REGIONS on MEDIA PLAYER.

Any tips would be much appreciated as I do miss watching DVDs that fill the entire laptop screen.

In Vista, I do the same thing but when I hit alt/enter I get this message "This system does not support full screen mode." I have tried right clicking the command prompt and going to properties and layout and adjusting the size of the window but when I hit OK, it reverts back to what it was before which is about 1/3 of the screen. I noticed that this thread was in the ME forum and it didn't really get a response that helped me, I also tried posting this to the windows 7 forum, and while it's only been about a day since I posted that (I realize you asked for 72 hours.) I realized that this might be better suited to this part of the forum instead, and decided to try here. So uh, sorry about any trouble that caused.

Okay, so about a week ago, I started experiencing this problem where my windows would just go inactive; full screen applications would suddenly minimize, text applications would suddenly become inactive as above, and I'd have to click on them to get them running again. This is pretty annoying, especially when I'm running a computer game or working off of a written document.

After looking around, I thought the problem might be focus stealing, but after trying to change the registry values and using tweakui, I got nothing, and later found out the values I was using basically do nothing in vista. I bought a copy of Windows 7, figuring it might fix the issue if it's an OS problem, and that didn't really work, either.

malwarebytes, spybot, AvG, and even CleanUp didn't find anything to fix.

I've tried defragmenting the hard drive, removing undesirable programs, got rid of AIM, Acrobat reader, and the like, and even reinstalled Steam. I've also tried altering startup programs with no lasting success.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to play full screen games on the secondary display, instead of the primary.

Is there a setting I can change? Is there a program I can download?

San andreas has the option built in, but that is the only game I have seen so far.

I know it's possible to maximize games onto secondary screen. But I'm talking about the whole screen, no border. Which means in most games, alt+enter enters full screen mode....thats the mode I want.

A:Solved: Force full screen games onto secondary display?

-windowed -noborder in launch options and desktop resolution in in-game settings could be the first step... If you could just move it to the other screen. Better than fullscreen in most games, decreases lag with alt-tabbing significantly.
I think there's not yet any way to really force anything onto the secondary display... Switching primary and secondary displays for gaming is one option... Not really even near optimal though.

I have a few full screen games that I have been playing, like Hoyle Board Games. It worked fine until about a week ago. Now when I open any game that opens in full screen mode the games starts to play and then my monitor jumps to the desktop. When I click on the game on the task bar it goes to the game and I can see it running but it jumps right back to the desktop. It does this every time I try anything in full screen, full screen where you have to hit escape or close out the game to get to the desktop.

Suddenly my Windows Media Player (version 10) won't go entirely to full screen. When I use either the oblique arrow or the dropdown window to expand the screen to full screen, it enlarges, but the top and bottom frames/bars don't recede as they used to do. Hi. First, sorry if I don't apply the correct terminology at any point - tired and having brain freezes, too. For about two weeks now, when I visit websites like hulu or youtube, and I click the function to watch the selected video full screen, I'll continue to get the sound, but the full screen video will freeze on whatever the last image was in regular size, and the video part won't play on until I hit ESC and go back. To my knowledge, I've not downloaded or changed anything that could be conflicting. The video enlarging function had worked fine until one night when my husband was watching videos and it didn't work. I have a Gataway laptop with Windows Vista, and I use Internet Explorer 7, with a wireless router connected to TimeWarner Cable Roadrunner. As I noted, everything was fine, and videos enlarged and played with no problems, and now we can't do full screen without the image freezing and the sound continuing on.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot or rule out any conflicts or issues? Thank you all! Suzanne

i've had this problem for a while now. the controls disappear when i put a video in full screen and white bars appear. they are sort of still there if i hover my mouse over the area where they are supposed to be but i can't actually see them.
it makes it difficult to set the quality, etc and it is quite annoying. is anyone else having this issue?

here are the extensions i'm using

i have clean sweeped using CCleaner but still the problem remains.

For some reason, starting this morning, any time I open a game in full screen mode, I get a full freeze. No mouse movement, Ctrl+Alt+Del / Ctrl+Shift+Esc / Alt+F4 / Alt+Tab do nothing, and the ultimate test, toggling capslock doesn't change the light on the keyboard. Only a hard reboot remedies the problem.

I'm convinced it's not a video card issue simply because if I start the same games in windowed mode, they run perfectly fine. I updated to Catalyst 10.10d yesterday, but the problem didn't occur until today, so I'm not entirely sure if they are related. Google's turned up nothing, at any rate, and I don't want to go through the effort of a full driver wipe until I'm sure it's the problem.

Something that troubles me a little: Fallout New Vegas randomly started detecting my Radeon 3870s as a GeForce 7900. It did not do this originally. Fallout 3 and Oblivion still detect it properly, however.

This problem happens in all games I've tried, across multiple engines, including several Source games, several Gamebryo games, and a few other random games. This is not a BSOD issue, it simply freezes with a black screen. My drivers, DirectX and Windows are all completely up to date.

Edit: Forgot to include customary dxdiag info.

So I have been using ie 11 since coming to win 8, just not a google fan. But my concern is that sometimes when going to full screen mode I notice that on some sites screen will only go to full browser view rather than blowing out to all 4 corners of my screen. I rather like that, you can increase screen size and still have access to the desktop, but I cannot find a way to switch that, is it possible to make the browser always go to full browser size not full screen ? Win 8.1 64bit not a metro user

Thanks in advance for thoughts

It appears to only happen with Chrome and only in youtube. Full screen is only 1/4 of the screen in the upper left corner of the screen. It had happen before, I went to plugins and disabled the latest version of flash player. Three days ago I uninstalled and re-installed Chrome, the full screen issue is back, the flash player is 11.9.900.117. There's two of them, same number, one with periods and one with commas. I disabled the one with commas but the problem is still there.
Does anybody know anything?

Whenever I play fullscreen games such as League of Legends or Diablo. After about a couple of minutes, it will randomly crash. I've done a reformatting on the computer to no avail (the problem still persists). Not sure if it's a hardware issue and if I should get the graphics card replaced.

I've also updated all of my drivers so I know the problem isn't with not having updated drivers.

When it crashes, the screen has rainbow streaks, and the audio starts looping. I have to restart just to go back into my game and whatnot.

Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

(Ingame for league, I turned off video sync and I have settings on low)

Suggestions on how to fix this problem? Should I downgrade my drivers?

Nvida Geforce GT 630
AMD A8-5600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.60 Ghz
8.00 GB Ram

How can I debug this problem?

Also I can't access the boot menu to format from the CD/USB. It takes me to the "start windows normally start windows in safe mode etc" screen.

I've tried all the F keys including the escape key and none of them work, because they all take me to the same screen. The only way I can reformat my computer is by doing it through the actual windows itself. I can't even make my current partition active for some reason even though I'm administrator.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Don't use WMp unless I'm watching movies.
Lately it has not been staying full screen (I haven't timed it but it's for around 5 minutes at a time)
I don't have a screen saver and I have no other extra programs running in the background..
I don't know what to do! Any ideas?

I have notice that when I go to full screen in Internet Explorer the entire screen's right margin shifts to the left and leaves a blank white space on the right side of the screen about 1.5 inches wide. I have the higher resolution screen display if that matters. I thought it might be a Vista bug but I had an HP dv6700tse laptop a week earlier (it was returned) and IE full screen worked fine on it.

Has this problem occurred to anyone else before and have they been able to fix it?

I was playing with the font increase settings up and down. Changing the setting hasn't made a difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Full Screen IE Setting on Vista Causes the Right Margin to Shift to the Left

Don't bother replying. I determined it was one of IE add ons that was causing the problem, specifically "HP Print Clips". When I disabled it the problem ceased.

I haven't determined what this particular add on does yet. A Google search wasn't productive.

I m using. WMP v. 9 and am tring to watch a SVCD. It runs ok, But when I try and view it in full screen, the screen goes to full screen, but there is only a fairly small window sitting in the middle of the screen. I have viewed the same file on another computer and full screen works fine. Please help.

A:Full Screen not Taking up full screen.

Have you checked the settings on your screen? Not the software settings but the hardware settings. I'm talking about the buttons that are on your screen that you use to adjust it. I doubt that this is the problem but it might be worth checking. Also, you might try searching Microsoft's Knowledge Base for any answers.

Hi guys, as most of you know, graphic cards are definitely my weakest point, so hopefully someone can help me.

Since upgrading my graphic drivers from 257.21 to 266.58 when I play a game (or other full screen application) I get a "letterbox" effect with about 3 inches being missing from the top and the bottom of the screen.

Im guessing that for some reason the graphics card is thinking my monitor is widescreen when it's not, but I'm damned if I can find a way to unset it in Nvidia Control Panel.

Any sugestions other than rolling back the driver?
