Resize Tiff file

Q: Resize Tiff file

Hi,

i have a ".tiff" file that is huge 310 mb, I scanned it on too high a resolution. I no longer have the source document.

How can I reduce the file to make it more manageable, this size is a killer on system resources. The file contains many pictures, is there a way to break them out into individual pictures (without doing it 1 at a time)...maybe into a Powerpoint presentation?
I downloaded Ifranview but I don't know how to get the file size reduced, I tried the resize on the Image menu, and chose 640x480 and it only reduced by 10 mb.

Just looking for a simple way if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

when i scan a picture or document and i tell it to be a .tiff and i open it up it shows nothing, pdf and jpeg work perfect, i can open tiff files that are not scanned, i tried it on another computer and it worked perfectly.

Just a guess but how are you looking at the tiff files?
I know lots of image viewers will not show anything or just a black image.
But if you open the very same image with an image program then you will see the tiff file.

I have never had a firm grasp of how my Epson Perfection 1660 scanner creates files, so I went through a test sequence that left me more baffled. I scanned the same B & W document several times at 150 dpi, changing only the saved file format. For TIFF, the saved image was exactly the same size as indicated in the scan preview (177 KB). That makes sense to me. For JPEG, I used ten different degrees of quality, basically from 100 percent down to 10 percent. Amazingly to me, the JPEG file sizes were much, much larger than the TIFF, which I assumed would be the upper limit. The highest quality JPEG was nearly 10 times as large (1.60 MB) as the TIFF, and the sizes finally got comparable at about 10 percent quality. What am I missing here? Thanks.

A:Windows 8.1 download not everything a tiff file

Go to Control Panel> Default Programs> (click) Associate a File Type > Scroll down to the .tiff extension and highlight it> (select) Change Program> Choose Windows Photo Viewer and Close after the change. Repeat steps for .tif file extension if necessary.

Hi all,

I have a good one for you! At work I need to streamline a system for our production by creating a .bat file (are there any other programs you can create for free?) so that I can take a collection of .jpg images in a Folder, automatically resize them, and then move them to another folder).

I know the script for moving files but not for resizing images.

There may not be a .bat program but I am sure I saw somewhere a program that could launch an application and then run the keystrokes you set (a bit like a Macro).

Any ideas how I could acheive what I need?

I have a 1.2GHz Duron computer with a ti4800SE 128MB DDR memory, etc. etc. and recently I tried to increase hte size of hte paging file thinking it may be behind why two of my games may not be playing at all. I defragged thinking it may be a problem with how much memory was contiguous or free, etc. but that had no effect. The thing is: I can decrease or remove the paging file, but If I attempt to increase hte size of any of htem (I have 4 partitions and only two have PF's), I can hit set, but as soon as I click "ok" my computer restarts cold, and I can find no reason it did that. if anyone has had similar experiences, pleas ereply or even if you just have a hunch. It's starting to get to me, considering that I now have about 300 MB of virtual memory and am 'recommended' to have 640 minimum. I previously had 1024MB but wanted to allocate more to one specific drive. Guess thsi was a bad idea.

I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I have a PNG file that exceeds the size of the page, 8.5 x 11, when printed. When I view the picture online it appears that it should fit the paper okay. I resized the file by %, pixels, and measurements (inches). I also changed the paper size to 8 x 10. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

A:Can not resize PNG file to fit paper when printed

Open a Word document of the desired size and import it there. You can also draw a box on the Word document and put it into there - it will fit. If you don't have Word, try Paint.

Somehow I've lost the ability to right click on an image file and resize it. I used to be able to right click on a file, go to "send to", "mail recipient" and have a wizard pop up that would allow me to resize images for the email.. but no longer. I don't think I've installed anything lately that would compromise this feature, but who knows... I've tried downloading and installing the image resizer power toy from MS, but it doesn't seem to register and I don't get any options that allow me to resize images if I right click on them...

In any case, any help someone may have would be very helpful...
thanks.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me please?
Is it possible to resize a file to 8x10 (300 ppi) without losing some of my image? I have tried setting the ratios to 8x10 but when I use the rectangular marquee tool or the crop tool and drag out the box the shape is cutting off a lot. The image was taken at close range so I don't have any room to move. I am using Elements 9 to edit.
Many thanks for any help.

A:Can I resize a file to 8x10 with out losing some of my image?

not unless it was taken with the same aspect ratio - otherwise you will change how the subject looks

in elements you should be able to set 10" x8" height and width and aresolution 300dpi in the crop tool and then use that - and the correct size will be shown

I'm on Win 7 Ultimate x64.

I just upgraded to a 4K monitor, and I've read on some issues related high DPI displays, and this might be one of them. I've set the default magnification to 150% in my Windows 7 display settings. And for the most part things look ok. But I noticed some strange behavior within file explorer.

Here's an image for reference
You can see all that unnecessary extra space in the "Size" and "Date Modified" column. So naturally I try to drag the column width to make it smaller. But it wouldn't cooperate! If I try to make the Size column smaller, Explore jerks around and suddenly makes either the "Name" or "Date Modified" column bigger. Same if I try make one of the other columns smaller.

I've tried the Right click options on the columns: "Size Column to fit" and "Size all columns to fit". No good. It would still give me a bunch of unnecessary space in all columns.

This issue didn't happen on my old 1080p monitor. I can resize columns as I wished and they would behave.

Anyone have any idea what's happening and how to solve this?

A:File Explorer: Bad hehavior when trying to resize columns (4K monitor)

Have you tried specifying an exact size for columns?
Right click on the column header
Choose "More..." from the context menu
Click on the header you wish to set
Type the desired value in the box at the bottom

If that works, set your Folder Template so Windows will remember the settings.

I have recently purchased a new laptop installed with Vista Home Premium. I had a ton of files that were transferred from my previous back-up that were MDI or TIF. I'm working with a trial version of Office Home/Student 2007 as well as Microsoft Works.

I went into the uninstall program and updated the Office 2007 to include MDI files but it saves anything new as a TIF and still doesn't read the old files that I had saved as MDI - Any thoughts or solutions on the issue?

Thanks

A:MDI-TIFF Files

As you have figured out, MDI is not supported in Office 2007 (and going forward). See this article on how to open your old MDI files in Office 2007. An .mdi file does not open in the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program that is included in the 2007 Office programs

I am trying to find out if there is any to way to scan a document and save it in excel spreadsheet format. So far, I have only been able to save it as a .tiff, which won't work for me. Now, I am trying to convert the .tiff to a .xls. I also tried to convert a .pdf to .xls, but that didn't work either.

I have a huge amount of data entry work to do and am just trying to make it go by faster. Does anyone have any suggestions?

PS I have tried doing jpeg, png formats and the same I get a black picture when I closed the program and then open powerpoint again.

I've encountered similar but not your exact problems with tiff files, esp those created or saved by one program, then other Windows programs not being able to open them, even if they support tiff.

This has worked for me:

If you don't already have IrfanView, download it (pretty small FREE download for such a powerful program) and install it.
Open the tiff's in question with IrfanView. Then just Save. In my experience the programs that couldn't open these files before now have no problem.
Or choose Save As... and choose jpg or something, because that will make your PowerPoint smaller in size than using the large tiff format.

TIFF image files that are compressed in the JPEG format cannot be correctly opened by certain viewing applications including MS Office document imaging. Clicking on link that opens a tiff file is quick the first time then becomes extremely slow when opening the second, third and fourth. If I wait about a minute the next tiff I click on opens fast then gets slow again with any after that. I have opened the same images from my Windows XP and no speed issues. The file size of each tiff is the same and does not appear to be a factor.
Any ideas what changed from XP to 7 that could have caused this ?

Also, on the Windows 7 PC if I choose to save the file first then open it then it is fast.

I subscribe to a service which houses documents. I can go on the site, find the documents I want, and print them, one by one. The documents range in pages but are all indexed. I can print multiple documents in my pdf printer but they all come out together. I spoke with the service provider and he told me that if I install a tiff printer, I should be able to print multiple documents and name them individually, as per the index. However, he said he had no idea how it was done.

I checked out the Peernet tiff printer and downloaded the trial. I can't make it do what I want and it appears to require programming which is beyond my ability.

I also need to add that I need to have the documents in electronic format (tiff/pdf)
I virtually have thousands of documents that I will need to be printing...

Thanks again.

I have added two documents:
1. A screen shot of multiple documents which I have checked five for printing and
2. Two of the five documents selected (the other three had to be deleted due to file size and limitations on this site)

Thank you.

My office has just started sending all our faxes as emails, (I telecommute), which is great. One thing I can't figure out is this:
When I save the fax to my hard drive, it is a .tiff file. I view it in the Windows fax and picture viewer and I can scroll through the pages of the fax and print it without any problems.

What I want to do is separate the pages so that I could print or email someone else just one of the pages instead of the entire file. I don't see anyway to do that. It is possible and if so how?

I tried opening it in Adobe Photoshop Elements but didn't find a way there either.

I'm using XP Home.

Thanks for any help.

I've been trying to associate .TIFF files with a program called PaperPort Image Viewer on one of my company's engineering computers. When I try to use the "Open With" function or the associate file type in Default Programs, the program does not populate in the window. I go and search for the executable for the program, select it and try to bring it into the window for acceptabel programs for the file extension, and it doesn't populate to the window. However, if I map a drive to the users computer, and try and associate the same file type with that same program from my machine, it populates into the window with no problems, once I find it in the file structure. Both machines are running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. The engineering one is a Dell Precision 6700 and my machine is a Dell Latitude E4310 laptop.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again,

We have a site that shows scanned objects on it for people throughout the business. Now, when the page is brought up there is a TIFF image.

Usually, the TIFF image will come up perfect, but now there is a placeholder for it instead. I recently had to reinstall Microsoft Office XP. I'm not sure what has changed, however.

Any ideas on why the image will not show up?

A:Internet Explorer won't show TIFF images

Tried to playwith these TIFFs.
Created a document in MS Word, placed an image there.
Saved "as web page"
Eeverything was OK.

Created a document in Dreamweaver, placed an image there.
Image was not recognized as such by DW.
In IE - blank window.

I think the problem is that IE is not for viewing TIFF files. Maybe you should try placing JPGs instead? Far less space and far less trouble...

I recently re-installed Windows XP on my PC and after that I have had some problems saving TIFF files.

When I scan pictures I use the TWAIN option in Photoshop Elements (PSE) 3.0. All pictures are in normal condition when viewing them in PSE. However, some of the files are damaged at some point during saving. The damage is visible as black ”curtains” in the pictures. (See picture below!) The size of the curtains vary from covering all or almost all of the pictures to covering only about 10 per cent. This also happens sometimes when editing already scanned and saved images.

I have noticed that sometimes Explorer in Windows XP creates a thumb nail file that show the complete picture, while the actual TIF file turns out to be damaged when I try to open it. This means that the TIFF file has actually been complete at some point and been damaged later. This must of course be a matter of seconds.

I have also noticed that a TIFF file was shown as broken in Explorer. However, the image was still open and complete in PSE. I saved it once again, and then even the saved file was complete.

I have tried a multitude of ways to solve this, none of them making any progress. The measures undertaken include:
I have reinstalled the scanner software.
I have reinstalled PSE 3.0.
I have two different scanners, and the file saving problems appears using both scanners. This makes me believe that there is no problem with the scanner hardware.
Previously I used to scan large quantities of high ... Read more

My computer's Explorer (HP Pavillion with 2.8ghz DC P4, 2 GB ram) has developed this strange habit of crashing whenever I access folders which contain four or so TIFF files.

I began a project archiving family photos and have scanned them in as TIFF files. Whenever I click to open one of the folders containing even a small number of the files, Explorer crashes.

In addition, I have been using photoshop to import the scanned images. Whenever I save a file to one of these folders as a TIFF file, Photoshop and Explorer crash.

Ususally, when the crash occurs, I lose all my desktop icons and they stay gone. I can move the mouse around but invariably have to do a hard shutdown to get the system running again. On the rare occasion the system recovers, I have found the processes from Photoshop still running, but cannot get the program accessible again without restarting.

I have tried disabling shell extensions related to images, which worked for a while, but I had to reset all my extensions for another reason. So now I'm trying to resolve this problem or at least figure out what is causing this issue.

one other thing, a couple weeks ago, the computer began trying to spontaneously re-install Microsoft picture gallery... which was never successful, so it simply gave up. I have a feeling this plays some bearing in the problem, but I can't find any references to this application anywhere.

Any ideas?

A:Folders with TIFF images crash Explorer in XP

If memory serves, you need a third party software to read .tiff files.
I ran into this a few years ago. With some printers, they include the
software to view .tiff files. You need to do a google for .tiff viewer,
free. Only thing I can remember about that, but I do remember it was
a issue with a friend of mine.

Not sure where to put this as I'm quite sure it isn't a hard drive issue per se...

I've a weird issue with Windows 8.1 and my mechanical hard drive. I've a 2TB Western Digital hard drive that's partitioned with one of the partitions being a Media partition (H) containing over 107 gig of images, mostly tiff files ranging from 80-700 meg. I'm a photographer who tends to edit it layers.

Anyway for some odd reason when I access a folder containing these files, my hard drive goes into a frenzy and starts making loud vibration noise as though the drive is thrashing rapidly. Additionally I get a green bar going across the address bar as though it's establishing access permission. I've checked the drive and initially it just had "Everyone" listed so I added Administrators, and myself. But it still acts as though it's seeking permissions...

Interestingly enough no other folder or partition goes into this frenzy; just the folders under H partition containing the tiff images.

My initial thought is it's a caching issues as the PC is trying to cache and display the thumbnails for these files but I'm not sure. And if it is, how do I fix?

BTW this is a replacement drive as I thought my other drive was defective since it was doing the same and had it RMA'd.

Also this is basically the same partition/orginization structure that was under my Win 7 machine and I never had this issue.

Thoughts???

Thanks

Hey Drew,

Not sure what may be causing this, but you might see if defragging the HDD may help any.

In addition, it wouldn't hurt to test the HDD with Data Lifeguard Diagnostic to see if it passes and reports anything.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe you can do this by using a program called "CutePDF". Here is the link to the CutePDF website: CutePDF - Convert to PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Save PDF Forms, Edit PDF easily.

There's a free version but I am sure that's limited as what you can do. It's possible that you might need to get the Professional version in order to print PDF files in bigger size.

The question was how to re-size a PDF to a new page size. Using Acrobat Pro, choose the crop tool and in the appropriate box for re-sizing, put in the new dimensions you want. Apply to some or all the pages and you're all set in a key click.

Strange problem...I have a Gateway MT6728 running Home Premium 32, and some program windows (Spare Backup, for example) cannot be resized. This happened to me today when I was trying out SB, the window couldn't be resized and the buttons for "cancel", "exit", "next", or whatnot were at the bottom of the window but I could only see the very tops of them. I couldn't tell which button I was clicking. Could've been the "Launch Missiles" button for all I knew.

I don't know if this is a problem with Vista or with the App, or with how the app interacts (or doesn't) with Vista, but it's not just this. A Firefox window did the same thing yesterday. Anybody seen anything like this?

Nope. By definition, the file is the size of your RAM, because that's what's stored in it, an image of your system memory. It's either the size of memory or disable hibernation and it'll be gone.

I was wondering, is it possible to resize controls in a windows form. I know that you can create new controls or even new forms, saying

Code:
DIM withevents newbutton as button With {.height, .width, .text, .etcetera}.
However when I tried to change the same height or width attributes at runtime they had suddenly decided to be read only. Is there any way to change sizes without destroying and reconstructing the control and all its data? I am particularly thinking of mouse-drag resizes, so Ideally I don't want all that rebuilding and redrawing in what really amounts to a critial loop.

The reference to corrupt windows has been removed from Boot.ini. Partition D is now full and I want to use the empty space on C by resizing rather than merging and risking making the system unstable, but neither Acronis or Paragon Disk Manager will move the free space as C is in use. Is it merely a case of moving the Boot.ini to D, if so what is the best way to do that, and will that then allow the spare disk space to be moved over??
