How to capture Screen Shots?

Q: How to capture Screen Shots?

I've been getting good photo results snapping photos off my matte PC LCD screen using a Canon point-and-shoot camera set on macro. The colors are good and the results are clear but my friend tells me he uses capture to get photos off the screen. What exactly is that? Is it when you click "Save" and it is saved by the PC? I want to save it on an SD card so I can view it on my cameras' LCD screen without having to go to my PC. What exactly is "capture"? Thanks.

A: How to capture Screen Shots?

If you tap the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard, a screen capture of your entire desktop is copied to the Windows clipboard. If you hold down the "Alt" key and tap the "Print Screen" key, only the current active window will copy to the clipboard.

You can not paste directly from the clipboard to the SD card. You would first need to paste the clipboard contents into a suitable image editing program. You can then have the program save the file with the image anywhere you want.

EDIT: Certain programs may use an overlay method to display images and video on the desktop. These may show up as black boxes in the capture.

What was the solution to the following:
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/759314-printscreen-virus.html
...laptop keeps constantly print screening and i dont know why i even have print screen disabled recently but everytime i paste something most of the time it shows me a printscreen on my screen. I did a virus scan but found no virus...

It seems that other people are having the same challenges:
http://search.code-head.com/F-printscreen-virus-1341014

Though the issues are closed, there doesn't seem to be anyone that can solve this.
Any brilliant thoughts?

I was wondering how you take a screen shot of your computer, without a camera....

A:Getting Screen Shots

if windows is running, you can press the 'print screen' button, this will copy a screen capture to the clipboard. Then use Paint (or any other imaging app) and paste it into a new document

I know if i hit alt+printscreen i can get a screen shot (or just print screen), but how do I get the cursor to show up in a screen shot. I am desperate, I need to do a paper for school ASAP!

A:Screen shots

Well first I am surprised the cursor doesn't appear in the image of the screen shot, and I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't.

However, if you just want to "point" to something in the image, a work-around I have used is to dump the image to Windows Paint, and then draw lines in the image with Paint, pointing to whatever you want pointed at.

Hope this helps,

Basically, you will need to intercept the video signal after it leaves the XBOX. I would try to find a cheap video card with TV-IN. A bit of searching turned up this:
ATI Technologies Inc. ATI-TV Wonder NTSC
for $30.

No idea on the quality, but that's the style of card you would need.

There are other methods, but this works. Also see:

Use a program such as Screen Shot Maker 1.4 available via Tucows at http://www.tucows.com/mmedia/preview/222215.html
- or -
Easy Screen Capture 1.22 also available at Tucows http://www.tucows.com/mmedia/preview/222685.html

there are many apps in there - go to http://www.tucows.com/windows.html and then search for 'screen capture'

- or -
if you don't want to download an app ... my messy round-about way

Click Start (to get make the menu visible)
...
click your PrtScn key
Open an image app (ie ImageComposer, Paint)
Paste
Crop the excess
Save
voila!

Don't know about Vista.. In other Windows versions, the screenshot is put into the clipboard when you press the Print Sreen key. You can use special screen capture apps with different functionality of course.

I ran Avast and no viruses found, my pc runs perfectly fine except for this on start up. This is only a small annoyance to me as my PC is on most all the time. Hello all !

I have Windows XP-Home, IE-8,SP-3 on this PC.

When I click on 'My Pictures' and the window opens, all of my folders and individual pictures are lined up side by side on the bottom of the window. I have to scroll left to right (horizontally) to view them.

I tried to get things back to normal where they are lined up abreast ( say 4or6 across) of each other so I can scroll down to view them ,but have had no luck.

My second issue is trying to take a screen shot.

I press and hold the ALT key and  then press the print key just as I have always done.

I then open paint and click on edit. When the edit menu opens the paste option is grayed out so I am out of luck.

Any help would be VERY much appreciated !

Thanks,
Dennis

PS: I ran scans using MalwareBytes, SAS and Microsoft Security and they all came back clean.

Hello,

Have some questions related to each other. Is there any way to change the automatic format that Windows 10 saves all the screen shots in from .png to something else like either .gif or .jpg?

Also, is there any way to pin the Snipping Tool to my Start Menu in Windows 10? I have an option to pin it to my task bar when I right click on the icon when I have the tool launched but there is no option on the right click menu to select for pin to Start Menu. I am also wondering where it is located in my system because my start menu list doesn't have an "accessories" group in it the way Win 10 or XP had.

Thank you for your help..........

RE : Is there any way to change the automatic format that Windows 10 saves all the screen shots in from .png to something else like either .gif or .jpg

After screenshot is taken, you have to save it by either clicking File or option similar to that > select Save As > at Save as type , click the pointer at far right > scroll to find jpg > click it > click Save.

RE : I am also wondering where it is located in my system because my start menu list doesn't have an "accessories" group in it the way Win 10 or XP had.

Not "accessories". It's under Windows Accessories.

The method used by most to upload screen shots and pictures is saving it in .jpeg/jpg/jpe format and by using the Snipping Tool and the Attachments (paperclip) at the top of the Reply Box.

If you do not know about the Snipping Tool, please read this Tutorial on it.

How to use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums

To start, use the Snipping Tool or whatever screenshot program you prefer and save it as a .jpeg/jpg/jpe.

When you are ready to include a screen shot in your thread/post, click on the paperclip in the reply box, where it will go to the Manage Attachments page.

From there, click on the browse button to open up the File Upload window.
Insert your image and click on The Upload button to the right.

You can also upload the file from a URL.

Now, close the Attachment window at the top right.

You can now reclick on your paperclip..

Pick the file to insert into your post.
It will look like this:

You can then Preview your post to see what it will look like.

This is not the only way to do this but it is one method used by many that keeps the threads/posts looking clean instead of having huge screenshots.

I had lots of trouble with this latest clean install of Windows 10 to my new SSD drive. Most of the issues had to do with Windows not being able to find a partition to install on and then the partition was in the wrong format and had to be converted to gpt using the diskpart command. After pulling half my hair out I finally got it installed and it seems to be working fine. But I think I might have screwed up by not disconnecting the original OS hard drive before the install.

When I went back into Bios to make my new C: drive the first boot priority I noticed that it does not show up in the Bios! It shows up in the Microsoft Disk Management utility, in the attached image, as Disk 0. But notice that there is no System Reserve partition.

Then I checked it with the Diskpart command and found a hidden partition on the drive, shown in the next two screenshots.

At first I thought that the hidden partition 1 was the System Reserve partition, however, after doing some additional research I read that it should be 100mb, not 16mb and that the hidden 16mb partition is normal and should be there in addition to the System Reserve partition.

I'm concerned that, since I did not disconnect the original OS hard drive prior to installation, the Windows installer saw that the necessary boot files were already on my old drive and did not partition the new SSD drive correctly and install the necessary boot files on it. I guess it would work ok as it is, however, I was plannin... Read more

A:Are my system boot files on the wrong drive? Screen Shots Included

Yes, your boot files are on the HDD, drive 1 and not on your SSD, drive 0. Disconnect your HDD and your computer won't boot.

Having the boot files on the HDD will cause your SSD to not show up in UEFI as a boot source.

I would recommend you use MiniTool Partition Wizard to shrink the OS on the SSD by enough space to allow it to copy the EFI system partition from drive 1 to drive 0.

Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

Then disconnect the HDD and see if the computer boots from the SSD only. If it does, then you can use MiniTool PW to delete the boot partition from the HDD.

I have a built in webcam on my HP laptop, and because of situations with my parents I'm not allowed to use my cam. I tried disabling it, but for some reason it still shows on MSN that I have a webcam. I tried uninstalling it, but it'd make me restart and when I restarted it it'd reinstall. Disabling my webcam worked on my old Acer laptop, so I don't understand why it's doing this on this laptop.. but I didn't worry too much about it because I know I can hide my cam on MSN. So I pressed the button to hide my cam.. but people can still see that I have a webcam and still keep requesting to view.

I've checked everything I know to check, everything seems to be in place.. but it's still showing.

When pasting into a gmail "compose" a screenshot that I didn't take pasted, as if I took the screen shot and pasted it myself. I was trying to paste text I had just copied. It occured over and over for some time before retuning to normal paste. Most alarming is that the screenshot was of when KeePass was open and it was included in the screenshot although no passwords were visible. The two DDS files are attached.

I am doing documentation for my Help Desk at work, and it would be helpful to be able to do some screen captures.

I know that Ctrl+Print Screen will capture the whole screen and that Alt+Print Screen will capture the active most forward window. Here is my problem:

Many of the screens I wish to capture involve right clicking or displaying a menu-item. It is very, very difficult to do Ctrl+Print Screen or Alt+Print Screen while holding and clicking with a mouse (my Print Screen key on this keyboard is way over above my numeric pad and I have small hands). Does anyone know of any shortcuts or ways to do this that don't involve me needing three hands?

(Please don't recommend freeware or shareware programs for me to use. Such things are not permissible on the company PCs and require approval for download and installation. While I can get such approval, I'd rather not have to jump through those hoops if it isn't 100% necessary. Also, being a small business, most of the freeware/shareware licenses require commercial purchase for commercial use anyway.)

A:Screen Capture Help

I don't get it TechGirl. Can't you get the menu, then when you have it, alt/printsceen? I'm not sure I understand your problem. Are you saying you have to hold a mouse button down? That's weird. Just display the menu with the mouse and turn loose of it, then alt/printscreen. Oops, shouldn't that be Ctrl/printscreen?

Screen capture software, such as what is built in with Windows of "snipping tool"....... what do you use and what do you like about it?

Free, opensource, paid, etc. Doesn't matter, explain why you like what you use.

Anyone aware of anything where you can CTRL + C and then CTRL + P into a Windows Explorer folder and it will create a PNG or JPG file and then you simply rename it?

A:Screen Capture - What do you use?

Windows + PrintScreen = full screen, Alt + PrintScreen = current window

Aside from that if I need something specific I'll just capture it all then crop it down after pasting it into Paint or Paint Shop Pro 7.04 'cause it's fast and I can do it in a few seconds start to finish. I know what the snipping tool is and I have honestly never used it, not once.

I can't imagine using a third party application just to do a screen capture when that functionality has been built-in for so long it's not even funny.

Ever since I joined the HJT Training Program, I have been longing for a good screen capture program. Yes, I know I can use Shift+PrintScrn and paste it into paint, but when you make screenshots regularly, that is kind of a pain.

Another thing that would be nice would be video capture of the display, but in such a way that would be easy to dump on youtube.

The only program that I have found is FRAPS, which does much more than I need, and is $100, which I am not prepared to spend on a image capture program.

Oh, and I'm on Vista Ultimate 32Bit.

Those of you who have used some of my tutorials know that I like to make tutorials in videos. So I was wondering how I could do that in Windows8. There are two screen capture programs I usually use of which one worked perfectly. The other one had a little problem which I will try to clarify with the owner of the program.

Here is the . Watching it directly from there usually works better than watching it from the embedded screen and it allows you to run the video full screen which does not seem to work with the embedded link.

Here is the link to the screen capture program I used for those who want to try it: http://www.microsoft.com/expression/..._Overview.aspx

The only freeware OCR that I know of is SimpleOCR, but you get what you pay for, it's not very good. One that is fairly cheap ($30) and much better is On Screen OCR.
