Windows "Search" function couldn't find anything, although the smaller program I had to use to download the game demo was sitting right there inside a folder on my desktop. Maybe something is wrong with Search, but I have no idea how to fix it. Every time I clicked on the "fetch" icon for this program, hoping to find a way to see where the setup files had been downloaded to, I got the message that they were being "extracted," but before the extraction (and to where?!) could be completed, my computer hung and I had to press the on/off button to turn it off, so I really want to get rid of this file. Of course, it is not listed in Add Remove or among my program files, so I have no access to its Uninstall. It is supposedly taking up 510.15MB of my hard disk somewhere. I used System Restore to go back a day to before I had anything to do with Hoyle Card Games, and now that original "fetch" icon is gone, but presumably the thing is still eating up space. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, you wouldn't want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it, would you?We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further repl... Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options." ? Can anyone help please? A:Using already downloaded Windows 7(currently on a PC) to use... Hi: What you want to do would violate the Microsoft Windows licensing terms, so no one here will be able to help you with that. The product key you entered is an OEM product key. You need a full retail version of a windows product key in order to download the Windows 7 software. OEM versions of Windows cannot be transferred or used on another PC. Please see the Microsoft OEM licencing terms regarding use of Windows OEM software. http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/licensing_faq.aspx#fbid=q7CEbN2yHpJ Q. Can my customers transfer or sell their OEM software licenses? A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the software media, manuals (if applicable), and Certificate of Authenticity label must be included. It is also advisable to include the original purchase invoice or receipt. The original end user cannot keep any copies of the software. PC manufacturers do not provide OEM Windows software for download. You would have to purchase a set of W7 recovery disks for the PC that has W7 on it, and they will only work on that PC. 1 more replies Answer Match 29.4% I'm tearing my hair out! Hijackthis does not show all malware, but it's the place to start. Click here to download HJTsetup.exe Save Hijackthis.exe to your desktop. Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This. Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue. Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there. At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This. Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. DO NOT fix any items at this time! You must have ALL browser windows CLOSED when you "fix" items with Hijackthis.. we will help you later to do that. Most of what HJT shows IS NEEDED! Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad. At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All, then click Edit and then click Copy, doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet.... Read more 7 more replies Answer Match 29.4% Hello everyone! So, I don't know when this problem started, but probably a few days back. The EXEs I already had on my laptop run perfectly fine, but whenever I download an EXE from the internet, it doesn't do anything. I double-click them, open the task manager, look at the program I ran, and it gets stuck to a specific amount of memory usage (Depending on how heavy the program is), and some seconds later it closes. I can't see it on the task manager. Examples are: "WinRAR Installer", "FIFA 14 (After I installed but the game won't run)", "FiveM installer (A multiplayer client for GTA V)". I tried one thing and transfered the FiveM installer to another laptop which was new, and it worked! It was installing perfectly on that laptop. So I transfered the installed files back to my laptop, and when I ran the EXE that was installed (Along with a lot of other DLLs and related files that were installed with the program), it had the same problem. It got stuck to a certain amount of memory usage, and closed. Now I'm totally confused, I tried the fix on Microsoft's website (First Automatically, didn't work, then manually, that also didn't work). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Hello tangodelta22Welcome to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum, you posted two other topics , a fix was posted and you never replied back, we do not have the manpower and resources to analyze your log , work up a fix and to get no reply from you, there are to many people with infected computers that need help. You have other issues on this system besides Mbs Billing, you are also infected with the SDBot worm The reason your infected with MBS Billing is because you or someone that used your computer accessed a porn site, gained entry into the site and did not read the disclosure to cancel the account in 3 days and now your being billed for it, deny it if you like but this is the only way you got infected with this .This is difficult to say the least to remove, sometimes a reformat is needed, if you have not resolved this then post a new HJT log and lets see what we can do to help you.

I bought Easy Hi Qrecorder program a few years ago. It worked fine. I had to re-download to a new computer as the other had crashed.

I use XP home edition. The Easy Hi Q recorder is reputable, from Roemer Software. I redownloaded it to the next computer which had been recently cleaned out of my son's user account and all his programs and files.

The Easy Hi Q downloads fine and installs. But when I click on the execute file to start it, I get "DWGTrueView 2010 wanting to install instead, which was part of an Autocad program my son had, for mapping. I can't seem to get rid of this mix up. Then of course it can't find the "source" file from that autocad program since it has been deleted for months. I also tried a clean disk and defragmented after deleting all my sons files.
I just want my Easy Hi Q recorder to work properly and open up.

I just tried an XP repair using the XP disk. Still no change. And it took all afternoon to do this.

OK! Once again.. Greetings to people of this forum and you that is currently reading.
I have downloaded all the updates for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.. Which I am now down to SP1. I am wondering.. Once that update is done downloading and is installed. Would that file be automatically deleted or is it still somewhere in the computer? If so it is still there.. Where is the directory of that downloaded update? *Not the directory where the update is installed*

I ask this question due to my Drive C is running low in memory
Used 34.7
Free 14.0
Capacity 48.8

To be technically accurate, your system's Hard Drive is running out of Free Space. This has nothing to do with the system's memory, NeroLigerzid.

SP1 will be found in a randomly named subfolder of Windows\SoftwareDistrbution\Download <--
This article states that SP1 requires slightly over 1 GB of Free Space for the x64 SP1 installation package obtained from Windows Update - Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Since you state you have "downloaded all the updates for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit", suggest you restart the system to first ensure that all of them have installed, then delete the contents of the Download subfolder to reclaim some space. Then use the above article for a guide to reclaiming more space, if so desired.

After SP1 has been installed for awhile and you find that there are no issues associated with it's installation, then please see this Tutorial to reclaim more Free Space -

Just a little note, that IE8 came over with the latest updates from Microsoft and I downloaded it thinking that they improved it and ironed out all the previous problems with it, but they didn't! Big mistake!!!! I just recently went back to IE7 because there were too many websites that were causing me problems, plus my web printing was not working anymore for my HP printer and I found out that I could not print any of my cards in American Greetings!!!! I pay for that service and was very upset when I had a wedding to go to and could not print my card at the last min.!!!!! That was the staw that broke the camels back.....So, it was bye bye IE8, I am so disappointed in Microsoft for rushing this browser out to there knowing it has all these problems....Shame on you!!!!!

Did you try the sites in Compatibility View?

Got a Skype call telling me Skype had found a problem with my computer and I needed to go to a website for more info (supposedly from Skype) -stupidly, I went to the website and was immediately infected with what I think is probably malware.
Neither Malwarebytes nor Avast! can find anything, but this warning keeps cropping up that I can't get out of unless I get out of my web browser.
I am a total beginner when it comes to the internal workings of a computer, so if anyone can help, please use basic English, not techspeak or I'm lost

I found that it messed up my internet browser and it would directly open to a website called "partner12.mydomainadvisor.com" Please advise what I should do to clean this up! I have changed the default from the wierd website to "google.com" but it still will default to this website "partner12..." if the domain name does not exist. i used to have norton antivirus but the subscription ran out and i did not renew...I know I should probably get something to protect my computer as well from now on. I started having problems with my computer a couple of days ago, it started with an internet screen popping up saying HTTP 404 ERROR considering i wasn't even on the internet became a reason for concern. Since my free version that came with this computer that i bought was done i needed to try and find something else. I was recommended to goggle for spybot search and destroy the free version and when i did this a lot of searches came up so i decided to try the first one with that one telling me after i had downloaded it that i needed to pay in order to fix the problems...well i was not willing to do this so instead i decided to try a different one well needless to say the same thing kept happening to me i continued to download different ones with each saying the same thing i needed to pay! well then my computer started just randomly popping up screens every few seconds. I uninstalled most everything that i downloaded but somehow it was stilling popping screens up at me. I now have this 'system security' that i downloaded but it does not give me an option to uninstall, and my computer is still unprotected. I guess my question is Can you help me?

Alright, so, firstly, I know nothing about computers, but I was on MSN messenger, and got one of those infected "hey, is this you" followed by some sort of link messages, and stupid me, I clicked and accepted. I've been reading forums, but I don't get what to do, I've done some research, and I'm thinking it's a trojan thingy, and a leap virus, because once I downloaded it, I automatically sent it to everyone on my contact list, and an hour later, my computer automatically restarted. So for days now, I've been trying to fix it, and I think I know the file it's in, or at least close (C:/system32 hosts, or smss), the problem is, the Hijackthis scan, skips that folder, probably because the thing controls my computer, and, If I try delete related files, it says that I need permission to do so, yet I'm on the administrative account, so I guess if anyone know's what ever is going on, that would be awesome. Here's my Hijackthis log:

I have this annoying little thing down on the taskbar that keeps spamming this message.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Type: Spyware/Trojan
Vulnerable: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2003/Windows XP
Description: Spyware program that sends confidential information to a remote attacker
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, I have Windows Vista, but its obviously still being affected. I keep getting pop-ups for fake spyware-removal programs, and it's so obvious they're fake that it's not even funny. It also changes my homepage to http://iexplorerpage.com/. I didn't "click this balloon to download official security software" because I'm too smart for that old gag (Although not smart enough to avoid getting this virus in the first place). So first thing that comes to my mind is "Search for it on google". I found another topic on this site which said to get HijackThis and post what the log says. So here it is.

hello all;
heres a good one for the gurus.
i am running an hp compaq dc5850 sff. i have two hdd. one with all my America's Army stuff on it. on one i have the deploy client and game but nothing else that pertains to AA2.
so i decide to start to set up AA2 on the vista hdd as it is on xp hdd, the first thing i do is go to my maps website of choice and start to download the user created maps i like. everything looks good, i choose the correct directory and file and even hit the open folder button to make sure the map is in the right place and it is.
now the good part, i close everything up and go back to the map to make sure it will start and play correctly and it is not there, i search for it from the search window at start and search tells me the closet it could find was the same map but on the E drive, which is where the xp hdd is when i boot vista.

Hey started a new font thing & decided to download some new fonts. THAT was easy.... I even managed to open the zip file...but all I come up with is a page I can print. I'm running windows xp, what do I need to do to use the fonts? & once I unzip a file does it zip it's self back up/ or do I do it / or do I just leave it????

Sorry, your question is unclear to me.

The systems fonts are stored in a specific font directory, usually C:\WINNT\fonts. Often you can simply *drag & drop* the fonts into that directory and they will be automatically installed on the system and usable by most windows applications. If this fails to work, you could modify one of the MS font installation programmes to install your particular font and make the minor registry changes needed.

Hi,

My son downloaded a malware software presented as a virus removal. It infected the computer and ask us to buy the software so it can be removed.

I cannot install anything because it reboots explorer on an ongoing basis. Tried to run AVG but it's very very very slow...for some reason it allowed me to open it!

Dryheat4u

Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ever since like 3 days ago the laptop computer has been REALLY slow. IE doesn't even open up anyone (just white screen).
It takes 10minutes when I turn on the computer just to be able to click on start.
A lot of error messages asking me to fix this and that keep coming up (and they are not in the form of a pop up) They look like real windows messages.
here is my HTJ log

I chat with the Dell Techs and they wont help becouse i bought the laptop at

I have managed to get a-hold of something that is messing with my system. I'm hoping someone can help me. The first sign something was wrong was with McAfee. It notified me I wasn't protected. When I tried to turn it on it would turn off on it's own. I have downloaded several security packages since and scanned but none have found the problem. Now the computer is becoming more and more sluggish.

I have an Acer Tablet with Intel and Atom, CPU N450 @1.66 GHz, 0.99GHz Ram, running Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service pack 3

I will post my logs from HijackThis and GMER. I downloaded DDS onto my desktop and ran it 3 times but no logs are popping up. I know directions said to disable any script blockers but I don't think I'm running any and if I am I don't know where to go to find and disable them.

You can't download anything that will help. That PC will not run Mass Effect 2; it would need a faster processor, which would require a new motherboard, and more RAM, and a better graphics card, which would require a new motherboard and new power supply to meet the requirements. So you actually need a whole new computer, one built/designed for gaming.

Hi. I have a mustek scanner to which I have had to download the software for (reformatted pc and now the original installation cd will not run as kids damaged it, BLESS).
On the website I downloaded them from it stated 'download all 5 files from web onto pc's hard disc under same directory'. I did not do this as I didn't know what it meant ( thought I would play and work it out but I'm just too stupid).
When I click on first file it starts and then asks me to insert next disc because they are not in this said directory, all being separate.
Can I now make/find or whatever this directory and move them into it and how or must I first make/find this directory and and download them again directly into this directory and how?
Please be gentle with explaination/terminology as as you have prob' gathered my pc skills are more than limited!!

Hi Steve1ramsey,
First of all, there is nothing such as "too stupid".
I would rather say that we all start somewhere.

If you remeber the name of the folder you created and put the different files in you only need to change the last part of the path.

Eg. You copy the 5 files in different folder, let's call them "Folder 1", "Folder 2", "Folder 3" etc.
Then you start the Setup from Folder 1.
Later it asks you for disk 2.
You can see the whole path to the Setup, like C:\driversfolder\Folder 1\
You just change "Folder 1" to "Folder 2" and then press OK.

That should do it. In other feel free to ask again
Good luck!

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

Okay, I did a dumb thing. I actually wanted to transfer my Carbonite account to a new computer. It is a laptop with a 40 Gig of HD. I realized (perhaps too late) that I selected "Reinstall" instead of Transfer My Account" and that my Carbonite files were larger than the laptop could handle. Well I stopped the downloading of files when the computer said that it had no more room. Later the computer screen went black (actually light gray) and the lights were lit up showing that it was reading or trying to read the files it had. It never completed it's boot up.

I tried to go in and reboot it into a Safe mode, but it won't let me. Says it can't go into the Safe Mode.

So, is there ANY way to save my hide and get this back?

I don't have an answer for you (yet) but I did go ahead and mark it unsolved for you.

now I have a virus (at least that's what I think it is!)
It's disabled Task Manager, changed the wallpaper to say "Many viruses were found on your computer such as: trojan horses, passcapture, ect.
Your personal information can fall into the 'third hands'.
Please check up the computer with a special software. Thanks."
There's also a little icon in the taskbar telling me that I have a virus.
Also, whenever I open up an internet browser I get automatically redirected to a site (which I close)

I took a HJT log and here it is. ( attachment )

Thanks for (hopefully) the help!

What happens if I download and install an application TWICE? I am looking at a vendors suggestion. I am having a problem and the vendor suggests that I download and install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. I think I have it installed already.
1-how can I tell if I have it already?

My OS is Windows 7

If you already have the software installed, when you run the install program it will probably have the option to "Repair" or "Modify".

Now, if you do download a newer version, there is a possibility you can have them both installed at the same time.

Hey all,

Sorry I'm new to the forum, hopefully this is the right place to put this.

I've just upgraded my Dell XPS 420 to windows 7-32bit Home Premium from vista and now any time I try and install a program from the internet (even things like iTunes or Firefox) I'm runnig into problems.

Once I've downloaded any set-up file I click on it and the user account asks if I want to allow the program access. Once I click yes it thinks about it for a bit and then nothing happens.

I've tried running them as administrator and in compatability mode. I've also tried unblocking them in the properties and even re-downloading and installing without any user account settings or firewall but nothing works.

I even thought it might be a bad install of Windows so I formatted my hard drive and tried again but still no luck.

Thanks

Hi pepsiman, What can you tell me about the below startup?

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AsntDll.dll

If you dont know what it is, could you make sure that you can view hidden files and folders (and System Files) and run a search for AsntDll.dll. When you find it, copy it to a new folder, zip it up (this is important) and email it to me (include a link to this thread). My address is [email protected] I will post back when I have checked it out.

To get rid of LOP, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall Window Search (if present). You will be given a security code to insert, do so and reboot when done.

If the entry is not there, run the below uninstaller (ignore your AV if it squawks).

http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe

Reboot afterwards and post a new log.

Apparently the new things on forums are either Rickrolling or shortly commenting "keylogger" when someone posts a link. Atleast thats the case on the WoW forums and GameFAQs.

So I am now afraid to log into WoW, or anything for that matter. I ran a virus scan using HouseCall (the first link that came up when I Google'd "free virus scan") and it ended up freezing my computer. So should I just blow this off? I'm afraid that if I do, I might wake up to the message "Your password has been changed" when I go to log into WoW tomorrow. Please let me know, and if it is something I should worry about, can you tell me of a good, reliable virus scan site that will get the job done quick and not take like 3 days...

I have a desktop PC with WinXP SP2.

Recently, I downloaded IE7 successfully, but when I did a restart, the PC will boot, display the users, and when I select any one of them, all I see is the blank wallpaper. When I try to boot in Safe Mode, the same initial steps occur, but when I select any user, I get a black screen, with WinXp SP2 displayed around the perimeter like a frame. Help!

I was on a website I'd never been on before, and I clicked a link to download a torrent. However, it actually downloaded a .exe file. Not thinking, I opened it, and as I expected, nothing happened. About a minute later, my computer starts opening windows in Internet Explorer (even though I use Firefox) with adverts. I also keep getting notifications saying (something).exe is not working, such as vhr.exe or mas.exe. I am currently running a virus scan (with AVG), but I'm not sure it will detect it, as I opened an .exe file myself. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this? The file is gone now, and I cannot remember what it is called.

Thanks
