# Completed burned CD Play PROBLEM

Q: Completed burned CD Play PROBLEM

Just installed new 48 speed burner--newly completed CD's when played on a multi disc STEREO, upon completion just stops and will not move automatically to play the next cd. I am using another writer (16 speed ) as a CD ROM and when cd's are made on that writer , it works correctly. Existing CD's move properly .

Speed works properly except that it only gives me options up to 40 speed even when I insert a 46 speed media-- that's not a big problem unless it relates to the above major problem---

I am using ROXIO 5 software on XP with 2.4 g cpu

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ralph

A: Completed burned CD Play PROBLEM

Make sure you set it up to close the disk.

It isn’t that unusual for the burner to analyze the CD and decide it shouldn’t be burned at the speed on the CD media box. It would be unusual if the media was Taiyo Yuden, Sony or Fuji, but not so for rebadgers who grab whatever is cheap like TDK, Imation, Maxell or a long list of discounted El Cheapos.

I have Windows 98, and Real Player v10

I used to have a lot of media files on my harddrive, so to save space, I burned them all to a data disk. This is about a year or more ago. I've since watched them, from the disk, on Real Player.

Then I upgraded to RealPlayer 10 and wishing for SO many reason now that I hadn't. They now no longer play. I double click, Real Player starts, and then... it completely freezes. Completely. I have to ctrl+alt+del to stop Real Player before I can even use the rest of the computer. I've tried to play RM and RAM files from my hard drive, and those work.

I thought maybe if I could get them off of the CD I could play them, but it won't let me copy them to my hard disk.

What the heck can I do to play these files? I mean, there's a lot of them, and I'd love to be able to watch them.

And if nothing, can someone tell me how to get them off my CD and back onto the hard drive?

I have always been able to burn and play CD's. Now when I burn them, they wont play in ANY player. This problem has just started. I also get error in my library when I try to listen to a song that has already been downloaded. I get "!" with error stating..Cannot find file. If you are trying to play , burn, or sync items thats in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted" In which, I havent done anything to the songs/files! Then I can go back maybe later , and it will sometimes play the song again. My main concern is being able to burn Cd's to play. I am using Windows Vista, I think maybe Media Player 11. I dont know. All the songs download and play just fine on MP3, just not CD's. HELP!

Hi All

Music that I'm burning onto either Memorex or Maxell CD-Rs using MusicMatch (WinXP) play back fine on all my players (computer, car, high-end home stereo system, Sony Walkman and cheap portable boombox), at least initially. But after a half dozen plays or so, the CDs stop working on the Walkman and the boombox only (they continue to work fine on the other players).

Hope someone here can give my a clue about what's up with that!

Thanks,

Don L.

I have a nice CD burner on my PC and can burn CDs a variety of ways (windows media player, musicmatch jukebox, real player, sonic dvd/cd burner, etc.). It seems that no matter what method I use the CD will play great on my PC but won't play well in my car (lexus rx300 with the premium sound system). I have been told that if the data is good the CD should play just as well anywhere but they don't do well in the car. They play for a bit (and sounding fine) and then blank out. It sounds like the reader is trying to get the data as it will sporadically play but will then skip to next track and sometimes even to the next CD.

Thoughts, ideas solutions?

Hi,
thanks for advice.
I bought a new pc about 8 months ago with WinXP, the latest DVD ROM. I burned a CD from WinMX using Nero. I inserted the CD into the DVD rom and it seems to turn, etc. but nothing happens. The guy that sold me the computer says the CD is damaged or blank. WELL, I hate to disappoint him but the CD plays fine on other CD players and it is not scratched. AM I supposed to open something or do something after inserting a CD in a DVD Rom? or it basically begins to play itself?

A:burned CD play on new pc w/dvd rom

Yes they should play, but not all burned Cds will in all drives...it's been a common problem for a while. Try other brands of blanks that are reccommended to play in most drives. I don't know if any brands are guaranteed to play in all drives of any type. Certainly the brands reccommended by the drive manufacturer should, provided you can burn to them on the CDRW. Do any Cds auto-start on the DVD now? Do some, but not others?
Try double clicking on the DVD drive to start the CD, but if the drive seems to be spinning, doesnt sound like the problem. It's just not able to see the burned CD somehow.

The cd's I now burn on Windows Media Center 11 don't play in my 2003 Toyota Corolla or my home Yamaha cd player. They play in my computer and my wife's 2010 Honda CRV however. This is a recent event I was burning CD's last month and they worked fine....what changed in the WMC 11?

A:Cd's Burned on WMC 11 Don't Play

Open WMP.

Right-click on the "Burn" button.

If the check-mark is on "Data CD or DVD," check "Audio CD" instead.

Older car CD players can't play data discs. Newer ones can, though, like my 2009 Hyundai Elantra's player.

I transfered some old cassette tapes made on an old cassette recorder to my PC using Roxio and then put the results on read-only CDs. The CDs play fine on the computer, but when I play them on a portable CD player they start to break up after 10 or 15 minutes and eventually stop playing. This happens when they're in WAV format as well as WMA. I've made other CDs with material from commercial CDs without any problems. Is this a problem with my CD player, the CDs, the format or . . .?

Thanks

When you have Nero burn the data DVD, do you have the check box set to verify the the contents after burning?

It is possible that you have a hardware failure of just the DVD burning section of your combo drive.

My sister burned me a CD with about 13 songs on 2 seperate CDs, both are CD-R80's, however, one plays on my computer fine and the other one won't pull up. It will play in my car CD player but not on my computer. Do you know if there is a way to reformat the CD so that I can pull it up on my computer?? Please help!

A:Burned music on CD won't play

You can't format a CD-R disk. And formatting means erasing, so that certainly wouldn't help.

What does "won't pull up" mean? Can you browse the contents of the disk? What kind of files are listed?

I have created my first "movie" and burned it onto DVD-R media and it will not play on any stand-alone DVD player or PS2 in our home.

I captured Hi8 analog video with a LeadTek WinTV 2000 Capture Card using Ulead VideoStudio SE Ver. 6.2 in AVI format. I then did all editing, including adding titles, audio, etc. using Ulead VideoStudio SE Ver. 6.2 and saved the project as a MPEG2 file.

Next I used NERO 6.3.0.0 to burn the MPEG2 file to DVD. I did one with menu and one without. I burned with the default NTSC settings except where it had a dropdown with different "quality" options. The default was "standard", but I changed it to High.

I used Maxell DVD-R media. The Reorder number is 635040 and the PN# 050593. The media is DR47 4.7 GB with a green surface color on the top label side and a bluish-purple surface on the burned side (the color is the same before and after the burn).

Nero displays a successful burn message when the DVD is completed, but when I try to get it to play in my Sony DVP-NS400D stand-alone player, all that will display is the menu screen. I can advance the screen through all the chapter selections and then select them, the DVD player shows the > type symbol to indicate that the DVD is playing, but no tract displays with counter to show any activity and nothing other than the menu displays on the TV. I can get the Title and Chapter numbers to display and even advance, but nothing displays on my TV. I have also tried to play... Read more

I burned a DATA CD with a bunch of albums and videos on it. The burn was succesful. Since my hard drive does not have that much space left, I deleted what I burned from my computer, since I will have it on the CD.

Well, that was yesterday. Today I put the CD on to watch some of the stuff, and it says "E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect Function"

The CD burned correctly but for some reason I get that error message. So I tried playing it on my MP3 player, and It wont play.

What happened?

Cant I do a system restore to the time I had all the videos and albums on my computer?

A:Burned CD but now it wont play

May I ask, "why the hell didn't you test the cd before deleting your data?!"

To answer your question, NO, system restore cannot recover the data you deleted. You will need a file recovery program (see below) to do the job -

Recommended file recovery programs:

* Davory (from the makers of WinHex)
* GetDataBack

I've used both and have been very successful in retrieving lost files and such... You could also do a search on Google as there are many recovery programs to choose from.

I have had a cd burner in the past, but only used it to copy. I have never burned music cd's and just burned my first. When I took the cd to the car to try to play it, it says it is a cd-rom. What am I doing wrong? Can I not make cd's that will play in the cd player? Thanks for the help.

A:Just burned my first music cd and it won't play in my cd player

It sounds like you may be choosing to burn an MP3 CD as opposed to just a Music CD. A music CD will play in almost anything, but an MP3 CD won't (unless the device says MP3 on it).

Also, there's a chance that you could be just burning the songs as files, not a music format.

Here's some questions:

1) What burning program are you using?
2) How many songs were you able to fit on the CD?
3) Will it play on your computer?

Was this a copy of another DVD?... If so it's now in DVD-5 and not 9 like the original..
Aside from illegal and we can't help..
A retail DVD is 9+ Gigs in size... when it's copied to a 4.7 gig disc it is compressed...
Maybe your player can't read this compressed form.

Not an illegal copy, then....
I have found that if the disc is burned to fast, the last half turns out to be junk..
try a slower burn speed.

When i play burnt dvds on my dvd player in my livingroom the colors are kinda white..
I have also experienced this when playing an ordinary burnt cd with some filmclips on it.. the colors are out of whack..

Could this be a ntsc/pal thing with my burning software (Nero) or what?

Anybody got some input?

Hello people

I used to use Easy CD Creator to make my audio CDs and all of 'em played. I got Nero 5 (was told it was better) and have burned two CDs, neither of which will play the first track. I have tried this on my Panasonic car CD player (it wouldnt play ANY of the tracks) and the CD player in my house (that would play fine, starting with Track 2) .

MMJ plays from the first track on the CD drive on my PC.

I dont understand why the PC can play the first track, the CD player in my house cant play the first track and the CD player in the car cant play any tracks.

Watching the recording process start, I see a "Lead In" appear for a while followed by "Track". Could this mean the lead in and first track are not being separated?? All settings are the default ones.

Thanks for any ideas.

I have successfully burned a number of iTunes tracks to an audio CD, and wish to use iTunes player when I insert that CD. However, each time I do so, it plays via Windows Media Player. I have gone to "Control Panel/Autoplay/Media/Audio CD" and saved "Play audio CD using iTunes" but each time I insert a CD it plays via WMP! Can anyone please advise how I can alter this so that these CDs plays via iTunes? Thanks.

I am fairly new to audio cd burning, and wondered if anyone can advise me on this particular problem? I have a fair sized music collection on iTunes, and have for some time been unable to burn tracks to audio CDs via iTunes. So Instead, I used a program called "Tiny Burner1", very successfully. That is, the CDs play perfectly on my PC, but will not play on either my hifi system or my car unit. The tracks are all mp3, and, as I say, they play on my PC without any problem. I have made sure they are burned as "Audio", but do not know what else I can try. Thanks for any help.

I'm in the process of calibrating my subwoofer and want to make a CD audio disc of bass frequencies from this site (http://www.realtraps.com/test-cd.htm). The download contains many MP3 files. I burned the files to a CD and the CD plays on my computer but doesn't play on my Panasonic BD-85. I really doin't understand what's happening as I have burned music on a CD and that plays on the BD-85. I'm sure that I am doing something wrong, but don't know what it is.

A:Trouble getting burned files to play on bluray player?

If they are MP3 files, does the Blu-Ray player play MP3 files? That may be the problem and if it is, you will have to convert them to wav files and then burn a standard "audio" CD.

However, the MP3 files concern me as they are not full fidelity and if you are trying to calibrate something you need the full fidelity audio signal. Converting an MP3 to wav will not restore full fidelity, it can only be as good as the MP3 file is. If the site you are downloading from has wav files, download and use them, bypass the MP3 files (which are "something less" than full fidelity).

I have a recording studio so I'm well attuned to fidelity of audio/music files.

This is driving me insane! I download (legally thru Napster) lots and lots of songs. I burn them onto CDs which play beautifully in my car stereo and my home stereo. I can even play them on my DVD player and my PlayStation. However, when I put them back into the CD ROM drive in which they were created they will not play. The light will continue to flash, indicating that the drive is attempting to read the disc but it never will. Blank CDs fire up without hesitation every time, as do audio CDs I have bought and software I have bought. The only discs I have a problem with are the ones I burn. I use Windows Media Player, Maxell discs... I've also tried Real Player and Roxio, I've also tried using other discs. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, ideas... Please help! Thanks

A:Burned CDs play in car/home stereo, not in CDROM drive

That is strange, it's usually the other way around.

What happens if you burn a audio CD with tracks ripped from regular commercial discs? Can you explore the disc from My computer?

What I'm getting at here is the only thing I can think of that would cause that is if there is some kind of protecttion on the disc. You can try this really quick, hold the shift key in when you insert the disc. Hold it in until the disc is ready then try to play it. That will prevent any files from auto executing on the disc which is one way they try and keep you from copying... never heard of it used to keep you from hearing it though.

I recently downloaded cucusoft avi to dvd converter pro v 7 recommended from a friend who uses it on her vista machine. I have used her memorex disks as well as I have some tdk's neither worked and my disks don't work on her player. I contacted cucusoft they said to uninstall the software and the cole2k codec I was using and restart, reinstall cucusoft and then download the xvid codec and the vista codec pack. Still didn't work. Uninstalled everything again, this time I installed cucusoft and k lite full codec ... still doesn't work. Do I need to do something to the codec once its on my machine? Is it my burner? I bought my hp dv7 1153ca laptop in jan 09 with the vista home pre 64. I am so frustrated I am considering taking it back I have 2 more weeks to decide. Why wont the sftw work on my machine? Should I get a different avi to dvd converter am I missing a codec, is it Vista itself it just makes no sense my system is obviously missing something but what. Do I need to turn something off, is software that came on my machine causing issues with the burn? how can I test my dvd burner to see if it is working otherwise. look up your dvd player at videohelp.com and that will show what you can play in it. if it is divx you can usually burn the divx onto cdr and it plays fine. if your player is old you may need to convert to divx v.3 but there are a lot of tools for this. I use fourcc but there is one from divx.com too.

Did you burn the CDs as music CDs or did you burn the song files onto a data CD? Some CD players will only play music CDs while some DVD players will play music files (MP3 , M4A, WMA, etc) burned on a data CD. Some older CD players had problems reading from CD-RW disc.

Hi,

I rarely burn CDs so it's always a challenge for me. My daughter's getting married and I'm trying to put together a CD of songs from various artists and print a label directly to cd on my Epson printer.

I have a cd that was burned and given to me, but one of the songs was corrupt halfway through, so I copied all of the songs onto my computer. All of these files had the .cda extension and all played fine in my computer except for the one song that was corrupt halfway through.

I got a new version of the corrupted song. (This one was in .m4a format.) It played fine on my pc. I replaced the corrupted one with the new one and burned this new list again to a cd-r using Windows Explorer AutoPlay. It said it burned successfully, but when I went to play, it automatically went to the song that was in .m4a format and skipped the others. It played that song just fine, but when I try to play any of the songs with the .cda extension now I get the message: "The file you are attempting to play has an extension (.) that does not match the file format" or "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

The cd that was originally given to me contained all files with .cda extension and it played fine, so what could be the problem?

I'm using JVC/Taiyo Yuden inkjet printable watershield CD-R.

I recently built my own PC and it was running fine for about 2 months. This morning I was ripping CDs/sending them to my mp3 player. I had a fair amount of CPU usage including mozilla, AIM and the ripping process going. Without warning it shut off and I cannot turn it back on. I don't believe the power supply is burned out because the mobo light still comes on. I tried to unplug a few components that are not vital to the computer running to see if i was overloading the power supply but it still did not turn on. I can't be positive but I do not think the CPU overheated seeing as the temperatures were ideal every single time i have turned on the computer although this time I wasn't keeping an active eye on the temps. There were times where i was running probably many more programs and it never even flinched above ideal temperature. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? My first thought is to try a new PSU but just wondering if there are any better ideas before i go to replace the PSU.

Dear all, thanks for reading this thread

I recently formatted my computer and upgraded to Windows Xp from Windows ME ( Windows Me came with my computer when i bought it)

Since then, i couldn;t read the movies files in those previous cds i burned using NTI cd maker.
My cd drive can read what is inside the cd without any difficulty, and the mpeg file is shown on windows explorer, but the funny thing is i cannot right click the file. When i double click, try to copy, or play the file, it says " The disc struture is corrupted or unreadable "

This situation applies to all cds i burned previously ( around 30 odd cds ) and the odd thing is that the problem does not apply to other computers, as my friends can all still play the files from my discs..................

Im not sure if this is a cd drive problem or software or driver problem, thus i posted my problem here. Please pardon me if I posted in the wrong section.

If anyone knows how to help me, please reply, thanks alot!

Okay, I just purchased a Pioneer DVR-112D burner for my computer. I'm trying to reauthor a DVD that has a series of videos on it (not commerical...home movies). I'm using Nero 8 and DVDShrink to author. The DVD's burn fine, but will not play in my standalone player (CyberHome DVD-300). The reason I got that player is that it is cheap and I've read that it will play most types of burned media. However, when I go to play it, the files are backwards. The first thing that plays is the last section that I want on there (it doesn't play in reverse, it just plays the last few minutes and then jumps farther back and plays forward again). Any idea of what's causing this? The original burned DVD plays fine in my player. Is it possibly the media I'm using? (Memorex 16x DVD-R) Additionally, I burned it at 4x, so I doubt that I'm burning it too fast.

Any ideas?

Also forgot to mention that my PS2 won't read it either.

Hey guys,

New to the forums here and i absolutely need help. Ive looked all around for a solution to this and although ive found some good answers, none are particular to my case. Heres the story (ill try to keep it short as possible):

Im installing Windows 7 ultimate onto an aunts computer.
They had Windows 7 RC1 on it before this (they wanted to upgrade it obviously since its going to expire soon).
The ORIGINAL OS they had on the computer (a Dell) was XP.

Now, i did a clean install and everything was working smoothly. I walked away from the comp and i came back and suddenly it said this: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows,
click "OK" or restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Now, restarting the computer just leads to this same screen so basically im going in a circle. The big problem i am facing is that she DOES NOT have the XP Recovery Disc, so i cant even go back to the original OS.

So i am in a big pickle here and i could really use some help. Is this disc im using now corrupted? In which case should i try to get another and do that?
Any help would be really appreciated.

I have a couple of Word 7 files which can't be moved, deleted or renamed. Any attempt results in a message: This action cannot be completed as it is in use by another program. It is not in use by any program I am aware of. When I open the file, it says (Read Only) in the title bar but the properties dialogue boxes are not checked as read only. Of course, I can't save any changes to the file unless I go to 'save as' but that still leaves me with an undeletable/uneditable file. I am using Vista Ultimate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you're particularly interested in the mechanics of why this might be happening, I'd suggest booting to safe mode (press the F8 key early during Windows startup) and moving or deleting the files from there. You probably won't have trouble deleting the files that way.

Upgrading always starts with budjet. If you are going to keep your Mb , then simply buy the best (fastest) CPU you can afford at the time.If you are saving pennies you will probably be able to get the quickest cpu your mb can handle.

Hello,That request about NOT posting CF logs is primarily to keep people from running the program unsupervised. Please read this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/273628/combofix-usage-questions-help-look-here/ which explains that reasoning further. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Since you have run ComboFix, please include the ComboFix log in the new topic. If you cannot produce any of the other logs, then please create the new topic anyway, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs and why and include the ComboFix log along with a description of your computer issues.Orange Blossom

Finally got my gaming rig built and in perfect working order. Took me a while figure out how to put my two HDD into raid 0. One of the tech support guys at EVGA helped me out and said that HDDs have a hard time going into raid array if they have never been used, which was the case. I just installed some stuff on my two HDDs and reformatted the partition and BOOM it stopped giving me errors, LOL. Anywho here is the finished build:

Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Silent Gaming Tower
EVGA 750i FTW Motherboard
Intel E8400 Wolfdale Processor
Xigmatek HDT-D1284 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
MX-2 Thermal Compound
2x2GB OCZ DDR2 1066 5-5-5 18
2xEVGA 8800GTS in SLI
3xSeagate 7200.11 (2 in Raid 0, 1 backup)
Corsair 750TX Power Supply
Samsung DVD-RW w/ Lightscribe SATA
Liteon DVD-RW IDE
4 Scythe KAZE 120mm case fans (1 intake, 3 exhaust)
1 Stock Exaust Fan on HDDs

When I looked at the Case for the first time I couldn't believe how big it was, plenty of room to work in. The Scythe fans sound like a tornado when I first turn on the computer but it gets quite once the bios and PSU start regulating them and you can't notice it when playing games or listening to music. I bought a generic filter for the intake fan and realized that it wasn't needed because the case already comes with filters that you just slide off and wash.

This was my first build ever and I must say I'm quite pleased with the results. The bios defaulted the memory at 800mhz 1.9v so I bump... Read more

Hi,

Having successfully performed a 3 hour chkdsk by means of a downloaded microsoft program which did this automatically, the screen is left hanging and there is no option available to exit from it. I tried switching off and then on again but this just puts me back to the start of the chdsk routine which then completes again. So I'm stuck in a loop from which I can't escape !! What do you recommend ?

A:After chkdsk has completed

Hello ,

here is a shot in the dark

turn your system on & then back off

then un plug your system

them push your power button as if you wanted to start it and hold it for a count of 10

this will clear the compleat system of power and maybe reset way your system starts / you may want to reset the bios also by crossing the bios jumpers or just pulling the litheum battery from your mother board for at least 3 minutes

then try your system

you may be looking at wipeing the driver & reinstalling

have you tried to get into the recovery console useing the Windows XP cd ?

A:Completed 2/5 steps - please look over this and tell me what to do

Hello

I needed you to go all the way through the steps. We prefer a more comprehensive set of logs to assist in detecting any malware that may be present. As noted in the final step (Step 5) of our sticky topic (Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log, download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer"... Read more

Desktop machine.
Windows Vista Home Prem. 32b.

The computer shut itself down a few days ago while it was copying for files.
Then, it behaved abnormally after restart.
A back to the factory status recovery was performed, but it did not complete the task.
The last part of the recovery did not run.
The recovery disks, burned right after the purchase of the machine and used before, were used and they ended the same way.
The last part of the recovery did not run.

There are 3 partitions on the HDD.
Partition 0, 20GB. hidden, keeping the recovery OS.
Partition 1. 223GB. partition C.
Partition 2. 220GB. partition D.

Question:
If partition C is formatted, can recovery OS be installed on partition C ?

Thanks.

A:Recovery can not be completed.

Basically, I have a HP Pavilion laptop, only 4 months old, pretty good specs, running on windows vista. At first, it was working like a dream, and I didnt believe what I was hearing about problems with vista. However, recently, I have noticed that anything I plug in2 any of the usb drives (be it ipod, external hard drive, or even a brand new printer) isnt installing. They are recognised alright, but instead of installing automatically, I am prompted for a disc, and even for things which I do have the disc (eg printer), it still does not work. Things that were used before this problem cropped up, eg another ipod, another printer, a mouse, are working fine. I have spoken to HP, Microsoft, the printer manufacturers, tech guys, everyone, and the best advice I got was to backup my data and wipe everything and start again. But seeing as I can't use an external hard drive, this could prove tedious and frustrating. I would be eternally gr8ful to any1 who could offer me anything to help me out of this bind!

The action can?t be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. I suspect that my anti virus, Norton 360, is stopping me from deleting a specific folder, it happens only in one specific folder.
When I restart my computer, it takes time to the regular background tasks to "wake up", so I can delete it once the computer turns on, but then something stops me from deleting the folder. I am not sure if it is Norton 360, or another problem.
Would it be a Malware?

I apologize if this forum is meant for tech people as I'm a novice computer user, but I really need help.  I have Windows 7 x64 and I used RoboCopy for the first time, and have messed up royally.  I was trying to copy folders and files from my
computer to an external hard drive.  My external hard drive had important files and folders on it already, and I thought that copying more data using RoboCopy would just add to it, but it deleted everything that was on the external hard drive when it
copied the additional data.
Can I undo what just happened?  Is there any way to revert?  Or maybe there's some way to recover that deleted data?
I used:  Robocopy C:\Users\Name\Documents F:/MIR /dcopy:T
I would be really grateful to be helped.  Thanks in advance.

Dear Broni and All,

I have completed all steps, and ran the security programmes recommended in this thread:

http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/keep-getting-stupid-shopping-malware-installed.208648/

However, I am still getting pop-ups and adware related problems, which means that the underlying problem has not been resolved.
These are the programmes that I have run (today, 18/05/2015):
-RogueKiller
-Mbar
-AdwCleaner (it removed NickelBlock, AllCheeiaPPPriCe, DowwnSaave, SaVieNeewaApupoz)
-Junkware Remover
-Farbar Recovery Tool
-Farbar Security Scanner
-Security Check
-Tempfile Cleaner

I am currently running Sophos.
My laptop runs Windows 8.1, and Combofix does not support it.
The antivirus that I have is Kaspersky (I previously had Microsoft Security Essential), and Windows Defender. The malware was not detected by a Kaspersky and Spybot full scan a few days ago. However, on the 26th of April, I manually uninstalled some adware, and then ran full scans, which showed nothing.

As you can imagine, I don't think I have many options left, and formatting my laptop is a dreadful prospect. I was wondering if you could give me some advice.
I have kept all logs of the security programmes that I've run.

Thank you in advance, and looking forward to hearing from you.

Let's see if these logs will show us anything:

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

Before doing anything, MAKE SURE that you can keep your computer on (at least until we get it fixed). This infection requires us to detect and remove it without rebooting or restarting your computer (unless the instructions say so). If you can't keep your computer on today, then I suggest that you don't get the logs yet until you are ready. With that said (when ready):

Open up HijackThis and go to Config->Misc Tools and check the first two boxes there. Now click on the Generate StartupList log button. Post that log in your next post.

Right click on this link and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on Silent Runners to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called Startup Programs followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Download Find-qoologic. Unzip the files to your Desktop. Open the qoologic folder and run the qoologic.bat file. Wait a few minutes for it to finish. When the dos window disappears, go to your C: drive and open up the log.txt file. Copy and p... Read more

Hello,

This is a follow-up to my original thread here -

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ease-help.html

I completed 1 RMA with HP and the teleplan service center guys sent me the machine back with the note - no issues found, reloaded OS. This time they loaded the OS with SATA controller as IDE as opposed to the default RAID setting that had come when I had purchased the system.

I let it run overnight hoping for the best but see the BSOD error in morning - I would really appreciate if somebody can pin point the issue so in the next RMA I can advise HP Teleplan guys about it - they seem to not spend great deal of time researching the issue but try to do a quick fix that obviously didn't work.

Appreciate all your help !

Your dumps indicate conflicts and memory corruption. Uninstall Symantec using this removal tool: Tool. Many third party security programs create conflicts with Win 7 and Norton is no exception. Norton was involved in one of the crashes. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It will not cause conflicts. Make sure Windows firewall is turned on.

Uninstall or upgrade CyberLink. Its driver, 000.fcl, Fri Sep 26 09:11:22 2008, is out of date. Outdated drivers can and do cause conflicts and BSOD's.

I find another slightly out of date driver loaded on your system. Update this driver from the link provided.

Quote:
usbfilter.sys Fri Apr 03 07:39:51 2009 - AMD USB Filter Driver (likely part of the chipset drivers). http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx. Update this driver.

Follow these suggestion, reboot and let's see if your system is more stable. Post back and let us know. If you get anohter BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

I am using SQL Server 7.0.
I have databases DB1 (only current values) and DB2 (both current and old - keeps history). When I update (or insert), on DB1, a copy of the row I am working on has to be sent to DB2 using a trigger. What gets completed first? The update process on DB1 or the action started by the trigger? I am asking this because of what I found at this site:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/architec/8_ar_da_1tup.asp

…..
You can use the FOR clause to specify when a trigger is executed:
AFTER
The trigger executes after the statement that triggered it completes. If the statement fails with an error, such as a constraint violation or syntax error, the trigger is not executed. AFTER triggers cannot be specified for views, they can only be specified for tables. You can specify multiple AFTER triggers for each triggering action (INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE). If you have multiple AFTER triggers for a table, you can use sp_settriggerorder to define which AFTER trigger fires first and which fires last. All other AFTER triggers besides the first and last fire in an undefined order which you cannot control.

AFTER is the default in SQL Server 2000. You could not specify AFTER or INSTEAD OF in SQL Server version 7.0 or earlier, all triggers in those versions operated as AFTER triggers.

…..

This statement sounds confusing?

A:Which is completed 1st? a transaction or a trigger?

Enforcing Business Rules with Triggers
Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 provides two primary mechanisms for enforcing business rules and data integrity: constraints and triggers. A trigger is a special type of stored procedure that automatically takes effect when the data in a specified table is modified. A trigger is invoked in response to an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement. A trigger can query other tables and can include complex Transact-SQL statements. The trigger and the statement that fires it are treated as a single transaction, which can be rolled back from within the trigger. If a severe error is detected (for example, insufficient disk space), the entire transaction automatically rolls back.
This means that the trigger completes before the transaction, you can rollback a transaction within a trigger as mentioned above so in your case the action started by the trigger completes before the update action.

I've run CHKDSK on a couple of laptops today, and in each case, after hanging for ages around 10-11%, the laptop rebooted while my back was turned. (The process was run at boot and the internet was not connected at the time.)

Is there a way to check if the process completed and what it did?

There is a CBS log with today's date, with entries that correspond time-wise to the CHKDSK activity, but I don't understand them. At the end there are several entries like this:

Can anyone explain what this means please, and if I have a problem?

Coincidentally (or not) There are similar 'Failed to internally open....' entries in the CBS log from when I turned the laptop back on later in the morning.

A:How do I know if CHKDSK completed successfully?

Hi, check this tutorials CHKDSK - Check a Drive for Errors in Windows 8 and Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log - Windows 7 Help Forums to see if they will help you.

Good luck, werty

I'll give some background.

I have a tri-boot setup. Windows 8 one ssd, windows 7 pro on a second ssd and ubuntu 13.04 on a partition on a 2 gig raid 1. The boot partition is on the windows 7 ssd. All drives are on the same Intel controller. Prior to the 8.1 attempt it worked. I'd boot the w7 ssd and a black win7 style boot screen would appear with the 3 OS choices. I'd been using win 8 as primary since it's release with no real issues.

I updated through the store early today and the process had a hitch after the first reboot but I rebooted and it completed the install. Windows 8.1 started and walked me though an initial setup. Once in, all looked pretty much unchanged. The only issued was it asked me to reinstall some XLan software.

I rebooted to check my other OS's and the problems began. I boot up, it loaded the blue win8 boot screen with all 3 OS present when I attempted to boot ubuntu it went to a black screen with no possible input. Hard rebooting brought up the grub bootloader (not win8 bootscreen) and I was able to enter ubuntu. Same thing happened with win 7 pro. I soft rebooted and the win 8 bootscreen appeared. Choosing win 7 took me to a hung black screen - hard reboot directly started up win 7. Restarting to win 8 bootscreen again and choosing win8.1 took me to another black screen - Hard reboot from there started up a win 8 repair process.

This is always the case with each of the 3 OS's. I have found that I can get into win8 if I enter through safe mode ... Read more

A:8.1 update completed but problematic

I have the exact same problem. I even had the XLan error you described. Once I restarted the computer, it always go to a black screen. I do not have multiple OS's to boot into, but the black screen always comes up after the little blue windows 8 loading screen.

If you get your issue solved, please report back.

Update:

When I tried your suggestion of enabling Debugging, it loaded up. However, 1-2 minutes later it would freeze and I would have to push the reset button on the machine. In Safe Mode, I didn't have any of the freezing, but when I tried to uninstall Norton Internet Security, it would freeze. After a restart, I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool, and removed Norton. At this point, starting Windows 8.1 with Debugging allows me to stay freeze-free. However, trying to start up without Debugging gives me the same black screen.

Another thing to note is that when I have all non-Microsoft services stopped, I still get the black screen upon bootup. I'm not quite sure what Debugging mode does in terms of bootup, but its definitely a workaround for now. I used msconfig.exe to keep debugging turned on for now.

Again, if someone figures out the fix, report back.

A:New netbook setup not completed,

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Is this re. Windows login ? You can't login to Windows? If yes, I have encounter such a problem once only but was with Win 8. Anyway - if this is a new computer you can revert the software back to factory default settings. Eventually you should create a local account (not login with Microsoft account). At the end, you can always migrate the local account to Microsoft account. If this is not re. Windows login, please provide back details.
