I recently updated Windows Media Player, and I noticed that there's an option missing that was present in the old version I had. Either that or I just can't find it. The option is to "disable" a song, but still keep it in the playlist. "Enable" would then allow the song to play again.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance.

I have a problem opening any media file in any of the Media Players viz., RealOne Player build 6.0.11.868 or my Windows Media Player 10.
Whenever I open the above mentioned Media Players on my system, their interface opens up and after I open and select any media (usually audio) file, the player keeps on connecting to the file and takes more than 1 minute and above in opening and playing any valid and good media file, may it be a .wma or .mp3 audio file.
How to fasten the dead slow speed of the players?

I have Windows Media Player 10 and Total Video Player. I use Total Video layer to watch some movies. Anyway the default program to open audio/video files with keeps switching to Total Video Player. I want the default player for all media types to be WMP. I went into the options menu in WMP and checked all the boxes on all formats for WMP to be the default player, but every time I restart the computer the default player to open half of the media files reverts back to Total Video Player.

How do I fix this.

Hello all, I tried to reply to the thread with a similar title to provide a correct answer. So I am reintroducing the topic and providing an answer that seems to work.

Problem: I want to use media player with very minimal frame. Many answers are "play full screen". But I know that media can be played in windows media without any skin, very minimal framing and floating media controls over the video that auto hide when you move away.

Answer:

Press Ctrl-2. This puts you in a skin mode. There should be menu items at the top: File, View, Play, Tools, Help
Choose View->Skin Chooser
You are now in the full media player experience. Do not choose a skin. Click the 3 square & arrow thing at the bottom "Switch to now playing"
Viola! No skin, minimal borders and floating media controls.

I have no idea why this is not a simple option. I think what I am choosing is the most basic skin, maybe not even intended for use. But this is my favorite player, super simple.

Hi,

We are having a problem on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine running Windows media player 10. It says "this version of media player is incompatible" when you try and open it. We have tried removing version 10, and putting on 9 but you get the same problem. This happens if you download the install file from the website or install WMP from the WindowsUpdate site. Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas on how to get WMP to work?

Thanks a lot,

I'm at my wits end.

I put together a capable gaming pc about a month ago with a bunch of new components and some cannibalized older components.

I installed all of the drivers from the motherboard cd. I have a radeon x1300 vid card. I'm running windows xp home ed. I've installed about every codec and plugin under the sun. I've troubleshot my load with regard to Windows itself.

I cannot play Windows Media Audio/Video files for the life of me.

I do get audio, but the video is all hyper-colored like looking at scrambled porn.

It doesn't matter if I download the video or watch it in a browser (any browser). It doesn't matter if I open up the DLed video in real player, Windows Media player or Generic DIVX player #458973: it still comes out all scrambled and in crazy moon-man rainbow colors.

I have no problem playing any other type of windows media player file. Quicktime works fine as well.

Please help.

A:Windows Media Player won't properly play Windows Media Audio/Video files

Well standard Window's media files should play without the need for any additional codecs.

Maybe check the forums of your vid card for some answers.

I am trying to download an audiobook from my local library. I generally use Overdrive Media Console to do this. When I try to download the book I get an error message letting me know that my Windows Media Player needs a Security Upgrade in order to play the DRM files. It tells me to click on TOOLS in the Overdrive toolbar and then Windows Media Player Security Upgrade. When I do this, a dialog box appears and tells me to make sure I am connected to the internet (I am) and click OK. When I click OK - nothing happens. When I read the Windows Help file - it indicates that when I click OK in the dialog box in Overdrive, it is supposed to open WMP and another dialog box. It never does.
The Help file gives me a web site to go to where I can upgrade manually - this appears to be a Microsoft website. The Upgrade button here is grayed out.
I made sure I was using IE as the browser.
I opened WMP manually to see if there was anything I could upgrade manually there.
I can't even determine what version of WMP I have since the Properties button is grayed out.
I just bought this computer yesterday... it's running windows 8

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! I very much miss my audiobooks and I am literally banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out!!!

thanks,
Krista

Hi guys,
Using my desktop pc (Windows XP Professional), I copied songs from my cds to the computer thru Windows Media Player and then moved all the songs to my portable hard drive.
I connected my hard drive to my laptop (Vista Home Premium) and tried to play the files thru Windows Media Player. Unfortunately, WMP 11 did not play the file but opened a Mozilla Firefox window leading to a site that would ask me to download license.
Upon clicking the 'Download License' button, I encountered the error that said I had to install Windows Media Services plug-ins.
I searched for this plug-in and found out that it was associated with WMP 9 and not WMP 11 so I thought installation might cause conflicts or might create more errors. I'm not so good at computer and I don't even know which to install when WMP website gave me too many options and downloadables.
These make me so frustrated and I don't even know if I could still copy my songs from my hard drive to my laptop and play them.
Could someone please help me out? Please...

Hi,

I've been having problems listening to music on windows media player and watching flash videos. The playback is choppy (sometimes gets stuck and generally bounces around) but also my system seems to take an age to start up and is slow.

I've run disk-defragmentor, scandisk, spybot, adaware, AVG etc. But no luck.

This has come about since I've put about 20GB of music onto my laptop (I still have around 47GB of 70GB free). However, when Windows Media Player is not open the system still runs slowly and I have no luck running flash videos.

The only possible solution I can think of is deleting the music but I'm a bit hesitatant to do so because it took me ages to put it on!

Anyway, thanks very much for any help you can give me!

I have two pcs on a wireless network connected to a cable modem. One pc (Thinkpad) has no problem playing internet radio stations through wmp. The other one (Dell 4100) has problems with streaming audio. It can connect to the radio station fine (or download the audio file in either format) but then it keeps buffering while it's playing. I've tried just about everything I can find to fix it: editing the registry (MSoft tech note,) changing the network settings, changing the buffer rate but nothing seems to work. There is more than enough bandwidth to handle the flow of data, plus my cable company says it's not them (of course.) Any help would be really appreciated!

1. what are they?

3. how to use that to convert the file to some other format?
4. what formats do Real Player and Windows Media Player support?
4a. Is there another downloadable DVD player that will play the AVI file as is?
5. I also tried to burn this AVI file using Nero but when I tried to drag the file to the proper place, I encountered problems. What could be the issue here?

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

Every since January 4th of this year, I have been trying to fix a very annoying issue with windows media player.
How It Started
Back in January my dad's computer constantly kept freezing over and over due to him having way to many podcast on his computer. I'm the only one who knew how to fix it from crashing and so I tried to delete some of the memory off the computer, however when
the memory was low I noticed that a few programs (including media player) were not functioning correctly. I was able to fix them but then I noticed that media player's entire library was missing, which made me think if I restarted the computer, it would fix
it. Sadly it didn't but I was able to find tutorials on how to restore the library back to MP, but the thing is before I attempted that, I went into media player with administrator on in hopes it would make a change. Of course it didn't but now there's a issue
that I face and I keep running into dead ends. Every single time I try to turn on media sharing in the WMP library, when I check both options and then click ok it doesn't do anything. No matter how many times I try to press it, nothing happens and also what
I find strange is that the ok button has a administrator prompt shield on it now. Kind of like it's trying to ask for permission but fails before it can do that.
The solutions I have tried
I have tried dozens of solutions and yet none of them fix the issue. I tried using regedit.exe and tried fixing it's registry but that di... Read more

Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks High

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Does anybody know of any solutions?

After over 30 days of troubleshooting, we isolated the conflict to the Vision 95 which has an option of being or not being installed along with the STB Velocity (Virge VX) 3D drivers.

However, BEWARE OF DIRECTX 7a and especially WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!~ I shout because ya need to [email protected]

Windows MEdia Player seems to me to be programmed to seek out any and all other media players (ie. Real Player 7), and mess them up big time. I have a 465 Kb .mpg file. I am running Vista and am having a problem with Windows Media Player 11.

When I try to close Media player by clicking on the X on the top right hand corner or selecting exit, I get the following message in a popup box.

Would you like to hide the player instead of closing it? Yes/No

The answer is yes, but it would just have just closed for me in the past. Is there some option somewhere where I can turn this question off?

I have noticed that if Media Player is open but no music has been selected to play and I close the program, Media Player will close correctly without the question being asked.

Anybody have any idea?

I recently reformatted my computer, and since the reformat, whenever I try to play a CD in Windows Media Player, I get the following message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer. It may be in use by another program or it may not be functioning properly."

You may need to re-install your sound driver.
Look in Device Manager to see if it's missing.

I have tried everything to get Windows Media Player 9 to work in Mini Player mode, but to no avail. I have followed the Help instructions, i.e:

To use the new Mini-Player

1. Right-click an empty area of the Windows taskbar (such as below the system clock), point to Toolbars, and then select Windows Media Player. This step enables the feature and must only be performed once. The Player will dock the mini-Player in your Windows taskbar whenever you minimize it.

2. Minimize the Player to view the Mini-Player.

This does not work. I have Windows XP Pro SP1, and Windows Media Player 9.00.00.3075. Can anyone help ?

This is not an OS question so I am going to move it, which hopefully you will get better responses.

Is there anyway in Windows Media Player 11 to play media without displaying skin, meaning only the media is displayed. Full screen display basically does that with controls being hidden and then activated by cursor movement. ATI does that with it media player by allowing you to hide/display border/controls.

Thanks for any help!

Hey guys,
I have a Windows 2003 server (Domain Controller), and an XP network of 30 computers. Recently the Windows media player and real player use port 80 for media streaming, and it kills the internet connection at work. I need to know how to block the media players from using media streaming. I am using a 3com VPN firewall and if i block port 80, no one will be able to browse the internet, so this is not a solution. I don't have capabilities to block media streaming in the firewall. As you know by now, the firewall is also my gateway to the internet which is an ADSL connection. I am runnin

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I am a music downloader.
It used to be that WMP12 would update the mp3 music folders to where the folder contents would read as follows:

01 'Track Name'
02 'Track Name'
03 'Track Name'

and so on...

This is no longer the case. WMP will not update my media library files, although it says it does. I have cleared the cache, cleared all .wmdb files, and have completely removed all 9000 plus songs and have them reloaded. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled WMP12 to no avail.

I can manually correct the files myself, but I shouldn't have to.
What setting am I missing that needs to be set so my media library will automatically update?

Thanks

A:How to set up media streaming on Windows Media Player via network

Hi Karsten,

I have my own radio station- currently down now, because of a problem I'm having with my two hard drives. I use Winamp to stream the music. This, I've found, is the easiest method out there, and is compatible with just about all other media players (i.e., Windows Media, iTunes, Musicmatch, and of course, Winamp can all tune in).

To use this setup, you will need Winamp player, SHOUTcast DNAS server, and the shoutcast winamp plugin. These are all free.

In order to serve from within a network, you'll have to set up port forwarding for port 8000 (or whatever port you choose to serve on).

This is everything you need to get started. If after downloading all of these, you find yourself unsure of what to do, post again and I'll walk you through it- I just don't have the time to write out a guide unless it's needed.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and this is for streaming audio. Video is much more complicated and time-consuming.

Hi,

I have recently purchased a new laptop and then upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 using the updater. I have Windows Media Player as a Tile when I press the start menu and this App opens and plays my music in the same way as previously. However, I also wish to listen to a range on Internet Radio Stations, which on my old laptop were available through activating Media Guide .... despite following all instructions in an attempt to find and activate Media Guide in this Media Player (looks like Ver 12), there are no check-boxes, or any other links available to activate Media Guide.

How do I activate Media Guide so that I can listen to Internet Radio?

A Google search reveals a set of instructions that include customising the Navigation Bar, but I don't have the specific check-box specified. Also, I've been through the route of attempting to manage libraries - no Media Guide there either.

Anybody got any clues?

I swear that I am on the site that I was on yesterday, and I posted this question, but it isn't here & I still find this site very confusing to navigate, so I will try once more!!

I ripped a 2 disc CD to my computer - Disc 1 - no problem, Disc 2 - the first part of the tract info came up in squares & the remainder was correct. I created a playlist. I synched it to the first MP3 - no problem, then I tried a second MP3 - errors in red circles - files missing media usage rights. So I deleted the first playlist, made a new list and no problems. The files from both Disc are not protected, according to their properties description.

I subscribed to a site in November and downloaded DRM files - big problems - these files had to be synched every month & playlists for CD's which had files which were not protected, were also affected - that is error messages came up for those playlists - even though I had previously been able to synch & play them on the MP3 with no problems. I have deleted all DRM files from my computer, but I was able to (unintentionally) find a software program which would remove the DRM protection. So I have been able to burn these files to a CD, which I previously could not do. If I try to synch these files to my MP3 - am I going to have problems?

Thank-you very much

I have Windows media player verson 11, and my MP3 player is the Toshiba S series (the software that came with the toshiba was for windows media player 10 however its supported in WMP 11, i also tried rolling back to 10 to no avail)
The Mp3 player and WMP used to sync perfectly (videos, pictures, music) however a little while after i upgraded to WMP 11 it started sync-ing less and less first being unable to convert videos onto my MP3 player (I was previously able to sync these videos on) and soon after that it wouldnt sync videos on at all. About a month after that when i plugged in my MP3 player and turned on WMP a error message came up saying that windows media player has incountered an error and must close, and then a error report option comes up. *when the error fist comes up it says "Windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience."

This happens everytime i plug in my MP3 player, also when i take my MP3 player to my friends house and try to sync videos at his place everything works fine. So today i uninstalled and reinstalled WMP and even got the the windows media player files from his house and replaced them with the ones on my computer and nothing, ive also ended the sync partnership and that stuffed WMP and i had to reinstall it

On the Tools menu, click Options.

Do the following:
Select the check box for each file type that you want the Player to play automatically when you double-click a file on your computer or in a shared folder on a network (or in the case of CDs or DVDs, when you insert them into your computer).
Clear the check box for each file type that you do not want the Player to play automatically

Hi.
I used to play all my mp3 files via Windows Media Player. Those were the good ol' Napster days. Then came Bearshare, for which I downloaded Real Player Basic, and since then it seems, I can't get any audio out of Windows Media Player anymore. It seems to be doing its job and all that happy stuff, you know: opening media libraries, playing mp3 files... only: no audio. Real Player's doing fine, but even my old Napster mp3 files from Napster - heck, even the Bearshare files that work with Real Player! - get zero audio when played in Windows Media. So I figured it's some sort of conflict, you know? That stuff happens. So being the resourceful guy that I am, I tried uninstalling Real Player, (Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs...) but you know what? It's not working. I get a pop up window ("Are you absolutely SURE you wanna lose all yer Real Player stuff? Yes/No" I do "Yes", I get another pop up job ("Uninstalling Real Player") but that's it. You know the blue horizontal bar you get that informs you of how far into the process you are? It doesn't even show up. At this point, nothing goes further. Ctrl/Alt/Delete tells me "Uninstalling Real Player Not Responding". It does that every time. What I want to do is be able to use Windows Media Player again, because I find it more practical than Real Player, only it serves me diddly to have an application running that won't give me the audio it&#... I would like to upgrade to a newer version of media player but I have not been able to get the other ones to show the playlist like the media player 7.0 can. I go to websites and listen to 4 hour audio files that are listed in many segments worth so many minuets apiece. It automatically shows me all this information and I can select any segment at any counter reading. But if I upgrade then all of this information is not available to me. There is no way I can select a particular segment and counter reading with the newer players. It looks like this
Coast to coast1 00:00
Coast to coast2 00:00
Coast to coast3 00:00
etc. The list continues down the right side of the window and I can select any one and see the amount of time per segment as well as pick the counter of that segment. Once an upgrade is done You have to listen to the whole thing and you can't choose which segment you want to hear. Even if I pick show playlist the above playlist does not appear.

Do you have any suggestions or hints to this dilema.

Hello,

I am having a peculiar problem with Windows Media Player 9 series. Since its release I have used WMP9 problem free. Now I have encountered some mysterious problems with the Media Library.

One day I opened the Media Library to find nearly 1,000 songs not listed which were previously there. I have checked that the files still exist, and I have checked the WMP is monitoring the correct folders. Even more mysterious is that when I choose to list the music by Album only about a dozen albums show up, even though there is music in the library that is part and listed under hundreds of albums (And even the music that still shows up).

I have tried numerous ways to re-add the music to the library, and I have even reinstalled WMP9. I have not done an uninstall/reinstall because I am hesitant to lose the user ratings (I don't care much about Play Count though).

I have exhausted chat rooms, microsoft support, and many other support forums and have not found even one person with a similar issues. It would be absolutely wonderful if somebody on this board would be able to help me.

A:Windows Media Player Media Library Help

While not having the answer to your problem, if you wanted to try the uninstall re-install option, you could back up the media library database file first, then re-install it to get your ratings back if you wished. I don't know if this would be the way forward if there's something wrong with the library though as you'd be re-installing the one that is broke at the moment, just something to think about. The library information is held in this file

"C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\CurrentDatabase_59R.wmdb"

before uninstalling/reinstalling windows media player though, have a look at what THIS guy has to say on the matter. There's not much he doesn't know about WMP.

hi,

I'm trying to share my windows media player library that is on my win 7 pc with my xp laptop.

I can navigate from my laptop to folders on my win 7 pc and play files that way but I'm trying to get the library option working.

Both computers are in the same workgroup and are both visable in the same workgroup from my xp laptop. However if I go into network on my win7 pc I can see the laptop in the computer section but not in the media device section.

When i then go into the sharing options on the win7 windows media player i can not see the xp laptop so I can't allow sharing.

I guess the problem is that my xp laptop is only showing up as a computer and not a media device? anyone know why this is?

I have turned of my firewall to check that and it has no effect.

thanks

A:media sharing in windows media player 11

You can't share Library's with any computer other than Windows 7. Library sharing can only work if all the machines in the LAN are Windows 7. Although you should be able to stream and share your music using Workgroups.

You should be able to share the WMP files by making these adjustments. Click on more media options to allow for media sharing with your XP machine.

Help. I have a HP media center computer. I have never used Media player and rarely use the Media Center software. Until yesterday when I tried to set up media player for my preshcooler to watch some video that I have on my HDD. Media Center view is very confusing for a kid so I thought I would use the Media Player and set up a library. Well nothing works. The darn thing will play a dvd in the dvd drive, but it won't play any video thats on the hdd including downloaded itunes video. Life in my house is becoming more unpleasent by the moment, because mommy can't fix Jake Long the American Dragon. AHHHH, I want to be able to configure Media Center or Media Player to show info on a video, ie rating, genre, thumbnail of cover, that type of thing. I would like to set it up to be as easy as possible to use, point and clink. So my little girl can get to her stuff visually. I spent hours on the phone with HP and they said I needed a file converter. Well I tried that and I'm only making a mess of things. There has got to be a way. I have to be doing something simple wrong. I did the search and it seemed to find the files but didn't add any of them. This is really driving me nuts. I can't believe that I would have to convert itunes files to play in the media center. Not to mention every other file type I have. Which I have no idea. It seems most are *.VOB but this thing won't add any of my video files, not home recorded dvd stuff, not itunes, not backup dvds. Please tell me what I'm do... Read more

I am a mature adult, have been messing with computers for about 10 years and I find Windows Media Player to be a complex pile of dookie. So it's no surprise that the preschooler is perplexed.

The freeware alternative I use Media Player Classic, which is much simpler and does a fine job of doing both video and audio.

Download here

Also, download & install the Klite Video Codec Pack, which will allow you to run DivX, Xvid and any other video format you might want.

Please update this thread on how well/if this works for you.

I have two computers in my house, one with internet one without. I enjoy watching a show that I download via direct download from a site, however I like to watch the media on my other computer (the one that is not connected to the internet). The media is fine on the computer that I downloaded it with but when I transfer it to my other computer via USB storage device and play it the video gets ahead of the audio and it becomes unwatchable. Both computers are running windows media player 10. I have tried playing the media in real player as well as quick time player but it does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I am not sure if it maters but the format is avi.

I am using XP and have been trying to get my media to share to my xbox 360 and at first the system said I had an ip address issue, even though I could connect to the internet. Now however, it won't find the pc. Upon going to Window Media Player's library/media sharing section, I am prompted with this message: Media sharing has been turned off because a required Windows setting or component has changed. I have tried all of the obvious quick fixes and nothing works, does anyone have any suggestions as Microsoft is less than helpful telling me something, somewhere has changed? Thank you.

A:Windows Media Player won't allow media sharing

I have also checked in the C:/documents/username/applicationdata/microsoft/media player to delete the files like so many have suggested, but there is nothing inside.

I am operating on Windows vista. Iused to be abble to play my library of music and watch videos and everything but the last couple of days everytime I try to play any kind of media on it wont play at all. It somes up with " Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help" When I click Web help I go through all the steps I should but the all that they suggest is fine on my computer. Except that it gives me the option of contacting my computer manufacturer and mine doesn't even come up. I have an ASUS. I have no idea what to do. can you help. I would rather not just not use WMP like you suggested someone else.

I am planning on buying an mp3 player, and have been researching info on them.
Under requirement they all say you should have WMP 10 or 11.
My #9 does rip in mp3 or WMA.
Since I see that WMA files are smaller and are supposed to sound better, I was thinking I would load the player with the WMA.

My question is - Can I use WMP #9?
And if not why not?

I don't like #10 and rolled back to get rid of it.

A:Windows Media Player 9 + mp3 player

I would use the Mp3 format instead of WMA. It's more universal and easier to work with.

Most Mp3 players operate in two modes. MTP mode works with WMP 10 or 11 and you can sync the player and use playlists. With MSC mode the player shows up as a drive letter and you can copy music files with Windows Explorer. MSC mode is a lot easier to work with.

So you can still use WMP 9 but you'll only be able to use MSC mode.

I have Windows media player 11 and cannot get my Gpx Mp3 player Model# ML638B to be recognized . What would be the easiest way to configure my computer to recognize my device or is there an online download or any kind of program that I need to use ?

A:Windows media player 11 / mp3 player help

You can go here to get some documentation: http://www.gpx.com/store/p/261-ML638B.aspx Click downloads and get the owners manual.

Page 11

Press the Power Button to switch the unit to USB transfer mode. Access the unit’s files under “My Computer”. Two drives will appear, “Tools” and “Removable Disk”.Click to expand...

You should be able to drag and drop Mp3 files on your computer to the player using Windows Explorer. That way you don't need to use WMP.

Whenever I insert CD's or DVD's into either of my optical drives, Windows Media Player as well as My Computer recognize that media had been added. The problem is, when I eject the media (whether it's pushing the eject button on the drive or right clicking as selecting eject) My computer as well as WMP fail to recognize that the media has been removed. If I insert a new cd or dvd, both my computer as well as WMP see it as the original piece of media. The other strange thing is iTunes is able to accurately determine if there is media in a drive or not.

Any idea's as to what is going on with my drives? I'm pretty sure it's just a software issue with Vista or WMP, since iTunes doesn't seem to be affected. I have no idea on how to resolve this. Thanks in advance for any help

A:"My Computer" and Windows Media Player doesn't recognize the removal of optical media

Just a quick update with things that I've tried. First I checked for errors on the C drive to see if a file or something was corrupt. After that didn't work, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drives, again to no avail.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Every now and then I am prompted by Microsoft to update to Windows Media Player 9. I have never acted on this prompt because my computer seems to be working fine and doing everything I want and need it to do. However, Microsoft does not let up, they prompted me a few minutes ago. Accordingly, I thought I would get the views of some of you guys. First of all, how do I go about finding what version of Media Player I presently have? And secondly, should I upgrade to version 9 and why?

Thanks,

To get the version number, open media player, go to Help > About Windows Media Player.

I prefer version 6.4 because its less buggy than 9.

For a media app that's packed with features, I recommend Winamp5 over WMP9.

I don't know if this belongs in this spot. It does have to do with my internet connection and Windows Media Player.
Here's the problem: I am connected to Warner Cable Road Runner (high speed) internet. I have been enjoying one of their features ie, being able to click on the radio button and listen to several stations providing classical music which uses "Windows Media Player" my player is Ver. 11. Yesterday when I clicked on radio a box popped up:
"This website wants to run the following add-on Windows Media Player extention fr..." along with that is another "your're missing the following required plugin to play radio" (no indication of the plugin).
I called Warner Cable they said I should contact Microsoft. Thanks a lot. What I did was to bring up Windows Media Player ver. 11 and clicked help and on update which ran a scan. This came up after the scan:
"Player scan indicates your computer is running the most recent version of Windows Media Player and all of it's components. No update is available at this time.
Is there any help out there?

There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly." i have windows 98. if any know please help me

A:windows media player??

It sounds as if there is a problem with your audio drivers or settings.

First in WMP lets go to Tools -> Options and go to Devices. Double Click Speakers and make sure the right audio device is selected in the list. I checked this in WMP 9 in XP, but it should be similiar in other versions. If you do not have WMP 9 you should download it from Windows Update.

If thats a no go, go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager and look for an ! or X next to any devices. You may still want to download updated drivers from the sound card manufacturer's website even if it looks OK.
