# Revised System configuration

Q: Revised System configuration

Ok Guys after reading through lots of reviews and also taking into consideration a lot of your valuable comments I've come up with the following spec that I am thinking of going for. Please let me know if this is OK.

Intel Core I5-750 (I thought about the I7 860 but on the price scale this is as far as i can push)

MSI P55 GD 65
1 TB Seagate SATA
2*2GB Kingston DDR3
Samsung P2350 24" Monitor
Samsung SATA 22x DVD RW
Logitech KB+Mouse
Coolermaster cabinet
Cooler master 650W PSU (I thought about the corsair but its too expensive in this part of the world. Costs as much as a Gigabyte UD2 motherboard!!)

Okay considering the coolermaster extreme power plus low efficiency I amgoing with the corsair
Coolermaster Hyper 212+

A: Revised System configuration

everything looks great but you wouldn't be able to go cross-fire with that PSU

Thanks in advance for your help, it is very appreciated. I accidentally accessed a video file that had a trojan in it. I've tried combofix and sdfix.exe previously and neither have worked. I've tried avg spyware and virus, Malwares, spybot, adaware, and none of them detect or allow me to remove the infection. Please Help!

I Do Not have boot disk, however, I have factory recovery install built into the board...I think I can F8 a boot, maybe?

Hi,
I apologize if this is not the right section, this seemed to be the most suitable.
I am using a 3D Connexion mouse and when I try to execute an executable file for the software configuration, I get the following error?
"Exception: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Configuration.Internal.ConfigurationManagerInternal' to type 'System.Configuration.Internal.IConfigSystem'"
I've talked with the mouse vendor and they have no idea.  My OS is Win7 64.  Does anybody know what this is?

I am using Win 98 2nd Edit. I have a Pentium 111 600 w 28 Gigs. Under the Config screen I see a yellow pencil, the box is unchecked and it reads Devic =C:\Windows\Himen.sys (yellow Pencil) rem C:\windows\emm386.exe REM Header. I notice when I start up on the black screen it says something about 386 Drivers not installed. Pls help. Thx

A:System Configuration Utility Config System

Can you list those lines out individually? It all ran together so I'm not sure what goes where.

Is it REM Header for instance?

Also, is the computer working ok, other than "saying something about 386 drivers"?

I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place so you will probly see this in to places
allow me to revise my problem: I have an nforce-2 board made by jetway with a radeon 9700 350w ps and ddr333 mem.
the prob I was having was i coudn't run on 333 front side bus with the memmory set to 333 as well;it would crash to desktop or freeze when i played a game. now before the amd 2600 I had a 2200 (133fsb) and memory set to 333 fsb and it worked great.
but not with new 2600. I have sense took out the ddr 333 memory and put in ddr400 512 stick; same problem;will only run on 266 memory settings. i'm stumped! and i'm no amateur.
could it be 350 w power suply? or the n-force-2 board? i tried setting the memory setting lower to no avail. Oh, one last thing,
I can set the 2600 to 2000+(133fsb) and the memory can run fine at ddr400 mode. Pleaaaaase help. thanks

A:can't run on 333fsb revised

You may want to check if the CPU is supported by the mobo. Check the Jetway site for your specific mobo for FAQ's and BIOS updates.

It could be a heat ot power issue also. What are the CPU's temps at both speeds? You can check in the BIOS or through tteh use of a program like MainBoard Monitor which you can download by seacrhing on google. What make is the powersupply?

I need help I dont know how to fix this problem I am having with my cpu

I am running a Dell 4550 with Windows XP. My ISP is Roadrunner.

Everything is running slowly or sluggish, My Browser freezes ( Internet Explorer ) Even with pop-up blocker set at high and seeing very few pop-ups IE has been opening and dozens of tabs open one after another. This just started within the last couple weeks. Shut internet connection off and end task now to get IE to close.

I also get a pop up that says Warning your computer contains various signs of virus and malicious programs presence. and then some ridiculous pop ups happen , and I constantly get virus and spyware removal pop ups.

I appreciate any help or advice.

Thank You

Hello, swaguy34
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. NTLDR is compressed
This has probabally been posted before, but I can't find the thread, and this problem is really pissing me off. It's kind of urgent. I cleaned out a few files in my admin folder (what appeared to be extra users other than myself). I am the only user (admin), username James Zagar, computer name Ephraim. I deleted something like Ephraim.000.user, and restarted my computer. Well it booted but then started telling me that I had insfficient privelege to install, and modify folders. I attempted to recover my gateway computer with the provided recover disk, and it stoped mid recover and told me it could not load a bunch of stuff. I restarted, and it prompted me to press F11 for recover, and then immediatly told me that "NTLDR is compressed, press ctrl+alt+del to restart". I can now fully recover but the os will not boot. I have no floppy drive, only universal card/usb reader, and a hard disk drive. This was kind of a long explanation (sorry), but I need help urgently.

All of which should be up to date and protecting my system. Doesn't seem to be doing me a lot of good though with this W32/Autorun.worm.gen virus. Put simply, McAfee software seems to find and "delete" part of this worm when it installs itself, as a user logs into windows. McAfee doesn't however, seem to delete the source or even the virus itself and the McAfee virus scan tells me my system is clean of malware when I do a full system scan. From what I have read this virus loads itself into any drive that auto loads to a system and it's doing exactly that. I'm finding hidden "System.ex"e files are being loaded on to my flask drives, of which a windows user or McAfee can't delete, so I load the infected flask drive to my mac and delete the virus there. It's apparent to me that this virus has been patched to evade detection and deletion by McAfee and likely other virus software. At this point I would like any advice that would help me location or resolve the source of this problem. I cannot install some windows updates and programs because of this issue. "The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I have tried doing different methods on the internet such as registering and unregistering using cmd which does not work giving an error. I have tried downloading the windows installer software but from what I can see the windows installer 5.0 is the correct version for windows 7 yet I can not find any where to download this including microsoft's site. I tried installing 4.5 and 3.0 (thought it was worth a try), but it says incorrect os. Also don't know whether this is an issue to do with my corrupted windows installer or a security feature employed in windows 7 to prevent people uneducatedly deleting required files. But there is not installer folder in windows on the c disk and i have hidden folders off. The only way I can access the folder is via typing it's address into run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A:Windows Installer Issue (revised) 10 more replies Answer Match 44.1% I continued to try to register and was successful this time. If no one can help me here, do you know where I can get help for free? I shouldn't have to pay anything simply to access my own files, that I have every right to look at. I once was in touch with some free Microsoft support (from Microsoft) via email, for updating windows XP errors I was getting unfortunately I can't remember when I went to. Well, here it is: I am getting an error when I try to access certain files on a drive, in windows 7: Professional The situation is this. I have two computers. One is a Dell Studio 1555 Desktop with Windows XP Professional, and my second computer is a Windows 7 Desktop, I bought the desktop through a company called Cyberpower PC, that was custom build for me. On my Windows XP computer. I decided I needed to wipe the hard drive clean- to get rid of some malware. However, before doing so, as not to lose any data- I made a copy of the entire hard drive as an OMG image file on an external USB hard drive with a program called Laplink Disk Image. What I am trying to do is access certain files on the image, by connecting the hard drive to my Windows 7 Computer, mounting the OMG image and accessing it. Specifically, in this case, the directory is: mounted hard drive letter (this varies, but it is the mounted image) /Documents and Settings/Sean. It came with Vista but upgraded as soon as possible to Windows 7 Ultimate (free upgrade was part of the purchase deal). I think it is OEM. I had a problem in May of 2010 with the system not accepting windows updates, and was directed to do a complete reinstall (ie starting with the vista then the upgrade) so I assume this is not the full retail version. Other than this I have not had any serious problems till now. However, in the last few days I have gotten 3 blue screens for no apparent reason. I have attached the required information. In addition, here is what I have done to troubleshoot: 1. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic from Administrative Tools and it indicated the memory had no problems. 2. I ran 2 virus scans (Malware Bytes and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Tool) and no viruses were identified. Recent new hardware: ? a logictech m310 mouse (3 weeks ago & driver appears fine) ? a new power cord (purchased on ebay 3 weeks ago, but with the exact same model number as the original) ? an old line conditioner - connected 1 or 2 days before first bsod (hasn?t been used in several years but appears to be functioning fine - but timing here correlates with bsod's). Each has a different error code and each indicates memory corruption. Thus you will have to troubleshoot by a process of elimination. To begin this process, I recommend that you uninstall Kaspersky using this removal tool: Tool. Kaspersky is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. ONce your system is stable, you can try Kaspersky again; but I do not recommend doing so. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials while you are troubleshooting and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. You have three outdated drivers loaded on your system. I said I don't know exactly it just what I'd heard and then just this week a post on the Microsoft community site alluded to this very subject and it said that using Sysyem Configuration unless you know what your doing can even render your PC inoperable and suggested you access it through Contana for eg rather than directly from your system. It said type msconfig in search box (my stuff) and accessing it from here is a safer way. A:System Configuration When going into "msconfig" from the run minu you can click on the "startup" tab and disable all without any problems. This will quicken your boot time. The system config is one you will have to do a Google search in order to find the programs you can and cannot remove, it is time consuming, but in order to do it wright that is what you are going to have to do if YOU plan on removing any of the programs yourself. You may find a link that has a list of programs you can remove, but depending on your system you still have to research before shuting down a program. In using msconfig, when disabling services, you first HIDE all the Microsoft services. You should not look like your are in Safe Mode if all previously checked boxes are now checked. If you are, then there is a problem with your display adapter settings. Make sure you are using the same screen resolution and color depth as before. To check that, right click on the desktop and select Properties > Settings. Typical settings are 1024x768 and 16 or 32 bit color depth. Guys,

I have finally come up with this after reading through lots of reviews:

Intel I7-920, 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 4.8GT/s Processor
MSI X58 Pro E Motherboard

3*2GB DDR3 Kingston or 2*2GB - Please advice which is better. Would 2*2GB suffice? If so I can save some money there since DDR3 is costly.

1TB Seagate SATA Hard drive

Samsung 22X DVD RW

Samsung P2350 24" LCD Monitor (Lavender Series)

Logitech Keyboard and mouse

PSU - Zebronics 800W Platinum - This proves to be a tad costlier. For the configuration above please let me know what wattage would do the trick.

Please let me know any improvements. Also I would use this to play games like COD 4, Far Cry 2 etc., I do plan to overclock my system. If you think some can be reduced to save some bucks please let me know that as well.

How can I configure W7's S P to leave user files [ not only "my docs", but <user>\app data . . . . , favorites, desktop ]?

I used W7's System Protection on my W7 Pro, 32 bit system, to return to a restore point I had made before installing a program, but it either modified or deleted files modified or created after the restore point was made, after uninstalling the program and returning to the manually created restore point.

Was the reason you went into safe mode because you thought you might have a virus? If so, you may want to consider running a portable scanner to see if anything is present. Do you know the name of the program trying to initiate changes?

SuperAntiSpyware makes a portable scanner.

SUPERAntiSpyware - SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner

Please note : The scanner is saved under a random filename so that malware infections won't block its execution.

Hi, this is my first post from the UK on this forum, Ive recently configured my system with everythin i have learnt, I am happy with the preformance but want to know if this is the best possible config?
The thing that most concerns me is the RAM i have 6GB and as you can see ive managed 1.1 ratio by underclocking ram to 701mhz. is the 1.1 ratio worth the underclock? Are the timings the best they can be? win 7 index rated my ram at 6.8 that ent good i dont think.

Even thou i got 6GB ram it still running in dual channel mode, symmetric which alot of people telling me it cant be done!

could some1 look over the info i have given and tell if what i have done is best or can be improved.

I am planning to overclock further once i replace my PSU, and run my e5200 at 4025mhz with fsb 350x11.5, what should i put my ram too then?

Hello Cola,

See if typing msconfig in the Start Menu search box and press enter to have it open.

You can also add a shorcut of the program that you want to run at startup in the Startup folder in the Start Menu for this. See OPTION ONE in the tutorial below for more on this.
