Do you know what the program can do that I can't do myself?
I am curious about the Windows Error Reporting under the Software category in System Information from the control panel Performance Information & Tools Advanced System Information.
I see quite a few errors, which I don't recall seeing in exhaustive searches through all the Event Logs. But no idea if these are pertinent or useful, or how to save or print this report, etc. I have not found anything useful on online about this particular error reporting.
Note that my even finding this info is due to my having many system crashes BlackSOD, new GraySOD, etc. for weeks now, with no useful errors in the Event Log, no diagnostics report significant errors (only driver performance delays from standby mode, which I don't even notice). I am resisting a reinstall of Windows 7 until I get another hard drive, and still hoping to find a simple manageable cause for my problems.
Have you tried a basic registry cleaner like CCLeaner? Bad drivers can very hard to find - I've never had much luck with Windows error reporting myself. The time it takes to sleuth it and fix it, is less than the time it takes to restore or reinstall.

It's not immediately clear what this is for. It isn't just for upgrading to a new o/s .
It has lots of other useful functions.
It consists of Partition Manager (personal edition ), and the Virtualization manager.
Even if you already have the partition manager, it is worth the download for the Virtualization manager.

My System Information Tool not fully working, display will be blank in some categories and display in others. Will not display anything in Hardware categories, will display everything in Components, it will not display Signed Drivers in Software Enviroment but will display other categories. Any have fix or idea what would cause this?

This is my first post. Hope I am doing it right. I printed out instructions, and am still kind of lost. Anyway, I have been trying to find the place to download Windows XP's alternate System Information tool. It tells where it will be, but I cant find any link that give you option to download the thing. It takes you from one place to the other with no down load options. I am very new to all of this. Does anyone have any thoughts on the free version of Advanced System Care. My IT guy at works says he uses it all the time, is it worth downloading and running some scans. I know not to use the registry fix but could it really speed my pc up.
I'm a 32-bit Vista Home Premium user, and about 2 months ago I downloaded a program from CNET.com which had been suggested to me by a friend. The program in question, Advanced System Care Free, has since been removed from my computer.
About 3-4 weeks ago, while I was trying to load Final Fantasy VIII, a window popped up. (Image above) I couldn't figure out what the "problem" might be, I'd been running FF8 on my computer for over a year without problems/crashes. I turn on the game, it goes through it's usual opening sequence, splashes a manufacturer's name across the screen, and then, just as it's loading the saved games, the loading bar stops mid-load, and the game crashes. That's when this window pops up.
Naturally I have no idea what "problem" this could be. There's no emphasis towards missing files or a code number I can use to look it up on the internet, nothing. Another thing I noticed right off the bat was that it couldn't possibly be something to do with Final Fantasy, but rather a problem with another program. I tried virus scan which turned up nothing.
About once a month, I go through Programs and Features and uninstall and delete everything I don't use/need. A few days after the FF8 crash, I tried this. Of course, I found some little things here and there that I didn't need, but when I went to uninstall them, I'd click on it and nothing would happen. I think that you did not see the little box, that you should check to see older restore points. Look carefully for that box. System Restore will work.

I've been using the free version of Sophos Virus removal tool weekly for years. Yesterday it reported being out of date. So I uninstalled it after downloading the latest version from the link in the expired notification. Restarted the computer and installed the latest version. When I start it it reports the tool is expired and to download the latest version. Tried twice, then gave up. File version is 2.5.5.0 Any ideas?

Ok. So there's this "rumor" floating around that the free upgrade has been "extended" by Microsoft. So I did a little experiment on my custom built computer that has never had Windows 10 Home on it before. Here's the results:

Well, that beats all. I was using my Desktop and IE 11 this morning and sometime this afternoon I noticed the Norton Tool bar was gone and now the Norton auto log-on will not work. So, I did the circus tricks, reset IE 11, all that useless crap, uninstalled and installed Norton's, took three tries to download and install Norton's back on -- it finally worked for awhile, but still no Tool Bar. Then I was off then back on and the Tool Bar is missing again.
So, I start up my laptop and guess what! The Norton's Tool Bar is gone. This is getting old folks. No PC stuff for dummies, I've been at this computer stuff for 60 years.......... Anyone have any magic tricks for this? Sometimes I think Microsoft and Norton's programmers went into deep sleep.

I've run it a few times, and each time it tells me that the "health" of my 250GB Western Digital Caviar is "bad." I have a 120GB maxtor diamond plus that it lists as "good.'
The WD is virtually new, and I have had no problems with it. Windows disk manager lists both drives/partitions as "healthy" and "active." I'll run chkdsk on it, but if you all trust Astra implicitly, am I looking at imminent danger?

Argg...I just wish these free downloads and deals of the day didn't require installation on the same day. I'm very leary of installing anything onto my machine before I can test it and such and simply don't have time today to deal with this. Deleted the Wireshark.exe and removed the Wireshark folder from C:\Program Files. Now, I don't get Wireshark popups, but something called Advanced Security Tool 2010. Browser still being hijacked. Have run Malewarebytes and Spybot with no luck. I have two windows 7 licences.
One I used imaging software to backup one, and upgraded to it windows 10. Saved both images W7 and W10.
The other i am holding off my windows updates until tomorrow for good reason.
If I allow updates on the 30th, will windows 10 definitely not be downloaded?
I will maybe have a dual boot with windows 10 & 7. I am just using one windows 7 at the moment.
I do not want to waste the bandwidth and disk space.
Any useful info appreciated.
Hello Ian am not sure if these would help with the 7 boot Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums just run the batch file for disbale for the 7 reg and this for the 7 boot Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads I used to keep it on my desktop and run it every now and then after the initial set up. see pic
As I said only include these in the 7 when it was booted and set your updates to let me choose see pic and also I did not have a dual boot

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs.
Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs.
After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too.
Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have.
WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.

I found this small program this evening and it looks very handy.
Only ran it for a few minutes and found a small problem.
Sorted my list by date and it is OK on the screen but prints in a different order.
Reported it to tech support and assume that it will either be fixed or I did something wrong. I assume that it is a relatively new program and they are looking for input.
In any case, the program looks like a keeper and you can't beat the price.

I read your instructions on the first steps sticky but I could not follow them without running the system restore tool due to the infection.
My computer had no desktop in normal mode. It was just a blank light blue background. I tried dragging a file to it from a jump drive but all I get is a circle with a slash through it icon. It also would not go on the internet in normal mode. I just get a limited connectivity mark on the network icon. There were 3 virus programs running. Security Tool, Antivirus Plus, & Advanced Virus Remover. AVG showed a Generic_C.BJPC trojan. It will not quaranteen because the file count is maxed out. These 3 programs keep popping up over top of each other listing countless threats. They do not appear in the add/remove programs list in safe mode or in normal mode.
In safe mode with networking, I had a desktop but it also had no internet. In safe mode, it was like it did not even recognize that I had a network card.
In an attempt to get a stable enough system to post, I have used system restore to go back to a week before the infection occured. So far, that seems to have worked to stablize my computer. I do not see the infected programs now and I can access the internet from normal mode.
I did notice that I could get onto www.techsupportforum.com. I was redirected to a site that said it could not find it. I am thinking that something is still r... Read more

It has the ability to make winpe boot media (tho you do need WAIK.WADK download from MS - similar to the way macrium does it ).

This is an excellent program .
As well as the virtualization functions - it is a great Partition Manager.
It contains more functions than Paragon PM 2010 Free.
Definitely worth getting.
Create , Delete, Format, Move /Resize as well as well convert Logical to Primary and vice -versa, without data loss. Also allows resizing of an Extended partition. Partition undelete module included.
In addition , you create vhd's as well as mount them , perform partitioning operations, and access the files inside.
It also includes P2P Adjust ( makes an o/s bootable on new hardware ).
It doesn't come with a boot disc - you can easily make your own.

I downloaded it, and it talks about doing malware, virus, spyware and rootkit scans, and downloading daily updates. Which is not what was said on their main page.

Your link does not work. I have tried this before and create another partition and you need the professional edition in order to work on a 64 bit OS. It damaged my hard drive too, dont know how but it did. Just do it through the Disk Management, makes it so much easier and less ha... Read more

It has lots of other useful functions.
It consists of Partition Manager (personal edition ), and the Virtualization manager.
Even if you already have the partition manager, it is worth the download for the Virtualization manager.
That includes the Boot Corrector to resolve most common boot problems,
and P2P Adjust Recover the OS startup ability after system migration to a different hardware platform.
Also, unusually for GOTD downloads, Paragon normally let you keep the installer , so as long as you keep a copy of the product key - you can reinstall the product as often as you like.
