I am looking for a free real time anti-spyware program. So far I have only found AVG Anti-spyware and Spyware Terminator. AVG Anti-spyware would suffice but it seems they have upgraded to A/S and A/V version... and they no longer update the anti-spyware program. And I think the A/S-A/V version is only 30day real time protection trial. Spyware Terminator looks good, runs good, but reading reviews from places like PCmag and Gizmo, it does not offer much real world protection and lots of things slip by it. All of the others I have tried have been shareware or scan only. I need something to compliment my Avira Antivir (which is excellent). Do you think maybe one real time A/V process is enough? Or should I have both real time A/V and A/S scanners? And can you suggest a good free real time anti-spyware program?

I guess this also runs for anti-virus also.

I can't seem to get Windows Anti-Spyware to work, so I need something different, and nothing as annoying as ZoneAlarm ;_;

Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I am currently using AVG 7.5 Professional Edition, SpywareBlaster, Spyware Terminator, SUEPRAntiSpyware, COMODO Firewall PRO and AVG Anti-Rootkit. I use Spyware Terminator for real-time protection, but am not feeling to confident about it anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good, freeware real-time protection program against Spyware?

Regards,
David.

Have you tried Spybot S&D? I've heard many people talking about SpywareGuard as well, but haven't used it yet. Maybe you might want to give it a try...

I am looking for a free program that gives me live protection against spyware. Today I use SpywareBlaster and Spybot's Immunize function, however I need something in adition to this. I read the recomandations in Grinler's post, but as far as I can see, he only lists 1 such program, SpywareGuard. Are there any alternatives to this program, or is it simply the best? I've seen some reviews on download.com, and about half of them are negative. Looks like they "never" update the definitions.
So, in your opinion, what's the best free alternative there is?
Or are there a superb program that's worth paying for?

A:What's The Best Real Time Protection Against Spyware?

In all honesty, and this is just my opinion...but...the easiest way is to exercise safe Internet practices. I have not used any real-time spyware protection, and every time I run any scans there is nothing on my computers (3 of them.) I know this doesn't really answer your question directly...but its just an opinion.Moderator Edit: Deleted unnecessary quote, to be more dialup friendly. ~ Animal

I purchased a word puzzle computer game and after downloading it, the website (egames) appeared. I clicked on a game they said was offered and now I have a virus that tries to infiltrate my computer daily, but is denied access. Every day between 3pm and 3:30pm Real-time virus protection (pg. 1) pops up and says a virus has been denied access to my computer. When I click on "next" (pg 2 and 3) Real-time spyware protection says this: "Removal of a malicious program has failed. You must delete the dangerous file yourself using Windows Explorer." You have an option to click "always delete" but obviously this doesn't work. The last page says the says the same as pg 1.

I have Trend Micro P-Cillin and it says the malicious program is GRAY_Gen.4X1839, infected item is: $[41]\egames.family+feud[1].exe)

Hi everyone!

Trying to help a friend out with his laptop and my meagre knowledge has fallen flat so have come to the forum to ask for help!

Can anyone tell me what the best "Free" Open Source downloads are to detect and destroy/remove Trojans/Virus's/Worms/Syware etc? As this would be of great help to not only myself and my immediate friend but, by word of mouth, a larger safer community.

Many thanks in advance for all those that can Help!

Hi guys, Iím 99% sure that my computer is infected with some sort of Virus. I've always had my suspicions but today when i turned on my computer i found that I had 4 important messages in the action centre. I am being told that Windows defender and McAfee Internet Security suite have been turned off (McAfee came free with my computer for 60 days). So when i clicked on solve problem nothing seemed to happen, so i opened the McAfee user interface and try and turn on the Real-time scanner. It turned on for literally 1 second before turning off again! Is a Virus doing this? McAfee pops up every 10 minutes telling me that my computer is at risk, but i just can't turn on the scanner! McAfee also tells me that 3 Viruses have been removed but i highly doubt that. McAfee is just rubbish! So can someone please look at my Hijack this log and tell me how to remove this annoying virus? Thank you in advance.

I'm looking for anti-virus software that does not run in the background in any shape or form. Programs like Norton I have found are always running in the background even if you have the real-time scanner and the tray icon disabled. I want anti-virus sofware that I can run when I feel like it.

This is for an older PC. Anti-virus software makes the PC boot very slowly and that's why I'm looking for scanner only AV.

Do you know of any program that fits this desciption or do you know of a program in which the real-time scanner can be disabled completly?

Thanks.

A:Solved: Anti-Virus With No Real-Time Scanner

NOD32

it has a small footprint and can be set to entirely disable background checking or allow email protection only or various other combinations

However with todays worms/virusees/trojans it is extremely dangerous to run without background protection but if you want to this will do that

Hi White Knights, Good Guys and Gals,

My PC was attacked, likely through Internet Explorer today, since I haven't downloaded anything. The following are is the list of Malware that XP Security Center has notified:

=email-worm.win32.netsky.q
=rootkit.win32.agent.pp
=backdoor.win32.kbot.al
=net-worm.win32.mytob.t
=net-worm.win32.dipnet.d
=virus.win32.hala.a
=trojan.downloader.js.multi.ca
=virus.win32.gpcode.ak

and Trojan Remover has identified
c:\windows\system32\vacinit.dll

and Mcafee
NTROSKRN... (rootkit trojan)

The program "Protection Systems" continues to pop up prompting me to buy along with random IExplorer bombs despite having removed it from programs. The system regularly freezes when I employ anti-malware programs.

I have attempted to use in normal and safe operating mode (Mcafee from safe command prompt)
=Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise (halts early in operation, Identifies NTROSKRN and 11 cookies)
=Stopzilla (Halts early in operation)
=Malwarebytes(fails to open even with changed name)
=Rooter Malware Finder (Eric_71) (operates results indeterminant)
=Trojan Remover (Runs. results indeterminant)

I am not in a good position to format the PC (in the wilderness).

Any advice what is preventing these malware programs from operating?

Thanks, and happy to repay the favor particularly if you like homebrew since PC wars arent my specialty!

Hi everyone I have just installed my new internet security programs, which has now made my PC speed up noticeably probably because CA took up too much RAM. Anyway, I have AVG free Edition and I was just wondering whether it has real-time protection. If it does, how do you enable it? Thankyou!

PS: This was probably a weird question to ask, I am just not sure if it has real-time.

A:Does Avg Free Have Real-time Protection

Which Avg Free are you referring to? The anti-virus or the anti-spyware?

If the AV, then yes it has real-time protection. I don't know how to activate it because I haven't used it for some years.

If you are referring to the anti-spyware, the free version does NOT have real-time protection once the trial period ends.

I assume that you are looking for antimalware programs?

What you have listed above are a combination of Antivirus and AntiMalware programs.

Antivirus
Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast
(these are the only two I would recommend using for free antivirus programs)
AVG has a free antivirus program but I would not recommend. I, personally, found it to be a resource hog unless something has changed.

AntiMalware
Spybot Search & Destroy (this is an ok program)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (the only I recommend)

SUPERAntispyware
SpywareBlaster
AdAware
Spyware Terminator
ThreatFire
(these I never recommend...not that they are bad but the others I noted are much better)

A:need free real time security

There is a nice writeup here:

In the past, when I did use AV, I stuck with avast! It had a small footprint and was not a resource hog. It did a very nice job of finding malware and keeping my system free and clear of any junk.

I need a Free Anti-Virus with real time protection. I am currently using Avira, but as you can see in the screenshot below, there is no ignore option. To get to the ignore option, I need to press details, and by the time I tell Avira to ignore my file, it's already corrupted. Are there any other free Anti-Viruses with Real Time Protection (and an ignore button)?

I'm a big fan of autoruns, but I want something that can do real-time monitoring. I know of winpatrol, but you need to pay to get full real-time monitoring. A google search has turned up a few results like the chameleon startup monitor but I don't know what to make of it.

Help on this please, Please????
It needs to be auto updating and thorough also.
(my subscription is about to run out very soon on the "pay" Trend program, I've been using)

AND!!..... I'm looking for one that uses Very few resources(like Norton) and does Not slow my system down...Like ZoneAlarm(which I know is just a firewall, but hogs computer speed) does to a snail's pace also. I'll Never use it again!

Please give me your ideas on ones you've used...(and which are not worth the time, if you have any bad experiences, please)

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a few years now.  I really like it.  It seems fairly lean, easy to use, and not very complicated at all.  It just sits there in the background not hogging very many resources.  I believe there are only two services that run for full functionality of the application.  I do not use any other real-time protection, browser/phish/link/download protection, or aftermarket firewalls.  I use the standard firewall in conjunction with Security Essentials. I also use some other programs for routine manual scanning such as Spybot Search & Destroy for scanning & immunization (latest definitions, but old version 1.6,) Spyware blaster for immunization, Malwarebytes for scanning, and Super AntiSpyware for scanning as well. Some of these programs also have the ability to offer real-time protection, bit I disable those features and only use the programs on a totally manual basis.  None of them are set to auto-update as well. I really only desire for one programming to be running for real-time protection, in addition to the standard Microsoft firewall. Anyway, Security Essentials has been working out great.  Although they have extended support for virus definitions until July 2015, the program has started warning me about XP's end-of-service. To be honest,  I will still be using XP for a long while.  I have no plans to end my use of XP any time soon. I reall... I have avast on a old XP computer and it seems to run fine. There will be some slowdown. You can see the results of a test of different AV's here and their affect on performance. Panda Cloud Security seems to be a good option though I have had not experience with it.

I am beginning to get occasional but still relatively rare inquiries from employers and suspicious spouses who want a way to monitor exactly what computer users are doing on their computers, without the user being able to detect the spyware.

I'm looking for keyboard and internet history loggers that will additionally e-mail text logs to a remote address without having to use a mail client known to the user.

The purpose for posting here instead of Googling on my own is that I want to know if anyone has any first-hand experience to share about the performance of some programs--how well they work as opposed to how well the developer claims they work.

No politics, please.

A:Need Spyware--the REAL stuff

No politics, however we also don't help with this kind of request, please see the rules. Many of the uses of key loggers and the like are illegal, and it's our policy to not assist with these kinds of applications.

I just removed a ton of spyware with spybot S&D, adaware(and vx2 cleaner), ran spyblaster, and am using macfee virus scan. All of the programs were updated before running them. I am running XP with sp2. I am still getting a pop up(independent of me using a browser) or two here and there with IE and firefox, which both are instructed to block any popups. I will post below my hijack log, but I am pretty sure everything in the highjak log is safe. Please help me finish off the spyware.

More important? info. I have ran the vx2 cleaner then i reboot, and i can delete the .dll file that is causing troubles and it goes away. Then I reboot and there is a new one under a different name right in its place. run the cleaner, reboot, same thing. I try finding the new .dll that adaware brings up but it is never there, which is why it must be so easy to delete. So I am sorta lost as to how to find what is creating this new dll file every time.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

You have several major infections so we are going to attack them in steps. Print this out so you can follow along and do the steps in the order I lay them out.

STEP 1.................................

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it?s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then create a new restore point.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Hi, first time here,

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. 32 and 64 bit. I have Norton security suite that comes with my Comcast subscription. I scan pretty frequently and I also use CCleaner which works great. I am not having any problems with my computer right now but I have in the past. Something not only got past Norton it also was able to disable Norton. I got it going again fairly quickly but my computer wasn't the same. I did a complete restore and it has been fine. For some reason I still feel like there is something going on in my computer which there may not be. I've noticed some files that looked suspiscious but I can never know for sure so I won't change anything. One time I noticed 3 extra users and I was sure I was infected until I found out Nvidia adds these for updating.
My question is that when I was looking at the files in my registry, I clicked on internet settings then zone and the list expanded to about a page and a half of files with names having to do with sex and porn. They all had the arrow to open a sub folder with on every one was www. I ran Norton and superspyware and a search. Nothing is detecting these files. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ron

A:Computer running real slow, checking for spyware

I dont see any sign of malware. Its all fine.Try a cleanup.

Download and scan with CCleaner
1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free Basic or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
? Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
? Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
? Clean all entries in the "System" section.
? Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
? Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
? Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
? Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
? Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
? Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

Anyway, I have it all cleaned up except 4 regisry entries left over from exact bargain buddy.

The registry folders are NLS.UrlCatcher, NLS.UrlCatcher.1, ADP.Urlcatcher, and ADP.UrlCatcher.1.

The instructions I have found on the web say to delete these entries but they won't be deleted. I get an Error Deleting Key on each one of these. Even in safe mode they won't be zapped.

I am not getting any popups on the machine anymore but I am afraid to leave them on the machine. Spybot, AdAware,Spysweeper,Counterspy, The MS Antispyware, etc. All find these entries. Spybot is the only one that is truthful about not being able to remove them. Everybody else says they are fixed but on the next scan they are back. It would almost be funny but since it is me dealing with it, it is only slightly humorous.(It isn't my machine so I can have a sense of humor about it.)

Has anybody ever zapped these entries? Are they bad to leave on the machine? I would rather clean them out but safe mode ain't even working. I am about to go buy a bottle, down it and beat this inspiron 5100 to death with the empty.

Thanks folks.

Greetings:I am somewhat new to this. I have always been able to solve the few problems I have with AdAware or Spybot. This time though, I am stumped. I installed HiJackThis and have looked through it to the best of my knowledge, but can't find anything. It seems like it all started when I accidently installed YourSiteBar. I have used their removel program but I still get popups. Here is my HiJack log. A:Online Spyware Scanner

Hi, Guy!

I haven't used the application, but I do trust x-block. I also don't think that Mike Healen would get involved in anything second-rate.

The reason that I haven't introduced the service here is that I think recommending it is akin to "giving a man a fish".

When folks download Ad-aware, or Spybot, or both, set the configurations and run their scans, they have now been taught to do that properly. They can do it over and over again, weekly, we hope, with the only "outside" support being updates.

Also, with Spybot Free set to immunize or Ad-aware 7.0, they get some actual protection.

A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Well, I was scanning my computer with Panda's ActiveScan, and I've been found with over 2,000 spyware. Yes, I've found 30 before, or 130 before, but over 2,000....it seems a bit much. (And this is after having used CleanUp!) I did what (I assume) I should, ran HijackThis, and here's my results. Thanks in advance for the help.

Folks,I have been trying off and on for 2 weeks to clean this machine. It is my brother in laws computer and used by his kids to play many on-line games. It came to me with a BSOD which I recovered from by removing Antivirus XP malware using Malwarebytes Anti malware. I subsequently cleaned about 30 infections off the machine. I have scanned it with AVG Free, Malwarebites, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, House call and Bit defender (online). Still It has a browser highjacker in both Firefox and IE v8. I am getting repeated virus alerts from AVG concerning iastor.sys and one concerning kxdiypod.sys. I have tried to replace iastor.sys by renaming it and copying a new version. Every time I mess with it, I get another AVG alert and it replicates itself. What's a good free spyware scanner that comes , already dowloaded with a certain amount of basic definitions already on it?. Kind of like what Avast does for antivirus.

The reason I ask is that I have a friend that can't get online with her NetZero dialup and I want to eliminate the problem being related to spyware. In other words, I want a scanner that doesn't need to be updated right anyway and just might find something.

By the way...could a virus or malware stop someone from connecting on a dialup connection? When I use the Netzero software it connects briefly to the internet but then the modem shuts down. I don't think it's a modem problem either because I queried the modem just fine and was actually able to connect with a connection I made myself from the new connection option in Windows 2000. However I could not get anything to come up on IE.

I also could not get online by using the Internet Connection Wizard. The one that connects you, using an 800 number. It also was cut off by the modem.

ok. up until yesterday i used Spyware Doctor and Adaware se. (i dont think ive been keeping ad-aware up to date)

i stoped really using adaware the day that ad-aware found only 2-3 minor things while spyware doctor found over 500 infections.
anyway, my computer was fine back then.
lately my computer has been getting teh mega pop-ups. so i downloaded:
Spyware Blaster
Spybot: search and destroy
Microsoft Anti-spyware
i think these new ones worked or something bc i was getting a LOT of pop-ups. today i still got a few...but not nearly as many. (i used to get about 0 pop-ups a day with firefox)
but the proplem is: these scanners will find a problem. then when i remove it, it says "removed successfully" then when i use the scanner again the next day, it finds the spyware AGAIN !!!

EXAMPLE: yesterday ad-aware found and "removed" 13 critical infections. today it found 13 critical infections again. and "removed" them. something tells me that tomarrow, im gunna run ad-aware and its gunna find 13 infections AGAIN.
...and since it say 13 both times, i assume that these are the SAME infections.

spybot found infections again and so did microsoft and spyware doctor.

i downloaded hijack-this, but have no idea how to use it. (well, i know how to run it.) should i run it and post the scan log somewhere? bc i dont know what to do.

A:Spyware scanners remove spyware but spyware keeps coming bac

Windows ME and XP utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files automatically to the C:\_Restore folder. This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file, and VirusScan will be unable to delete these files. You must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files from the C:\_Restore folder. How to disableAnother one to bookmark

I have a corporate laptop that had the following symptoms:
1. A link to Viruswebprotect.com kept poping up to initiate a scan
2. "error cleaner" kept popping up
3. "privacy protector" kept popping up
4. "Spyware&Malware Protection" kept popping up
5. A Task Tray icon for "trusted anti-vrus" was present

I found a previous post regarding these exact same symptoms, so instead of posting my initial findings I went ahead with the cleanup, but found even more than the original poster afterwards. The other viruses were Symantec Defined as "Trojan.Vundo" and "downloader.Zlon!gen.2".

After around 12 hours of cleaning I think I have repaired the problem fully and would like to post my HiJackThis Log for your expert opinion:

Welcome to TSG

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Close all other windows except HijackThis.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello, I have a problem with some spyware that got installed by my younger sibling on the family desktop. I was able to get rid of some of it but i still have the adware icon in the taskbar popping up.
The files that were a problem were part of the netproject spyware...i think i was able to get rid of the files that were being active which were the scit.exe and scm.exe files. The icon that's left in the taskbar is pretty much neutral right now cuz i disabled and deleted IE, but it's still annoying and im pretty sure there's still something in it.

Thanks in advance and i really appreciate the help.

I run Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. Never had any problems. I also run Spyware guard. No problems there either. On a weekly basis I run, Spybot, Adaware, Hijack This, and A2 Squared. Once a month I do a Trend-Micro online scan. My computer stays clean.
Right now I can run Zone Alarm and/or Spyware Guard active protection and I can do anything I want on my computer, Internet, online games, emails, word processing, anything. As soon as I run any of the mentioned scanners, they make it haft way through and my computer shuts itself down. It powers itself off. The only thing that is different about the computer is that Dec. 26th I added a router to my desk top for my kids laptops and a USB hub 2.0. All works fine. This problem started on Dec. 27th. My computer will run fine night and day, but soon as I run a scanner, it powers down If this isn't where I should post this question please tell me where it is better suited Thanks

I've recently acquired the false Zinaps malware "remover," and i'm trying to get rid of it. I've reasd that its really recent, so my previous scanners probably will not do the job. Could I get some help?

The lower task bar "notifies" me constantly with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. It reads "Windows has detected spyware infection. It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you."

By the way, this is Windows XP

Also, my computer's been excruciatingly slow recently (even before Zinaps), so if you could help me take care of those too?

My son downloaded some videos on how to fix his car from You Tube and since then my laptop has been getting worse and worse. I ran Sammsoft ARO and Malware. I have since taken both off my computer thinking that might help. I have AVG, but it comes up with nothing when I scan. I keep getting the threat alert scaneriche.cz.cc/scan/dim_sp2/free as the file name and Exploit Rogue Spyware Scanner (type 140) as the Threat name.
I found a post about rkill on a random site and downloaded rkill, but every time I try to run it my computer goes to blue screen with a loooong message and then reboots automatically.
When I try to use the internet, I am directed to different sites that I don't want.

Hello, i suspect this all happened a few days ago when a friend attempted cracking a software program for me. Which he did do, but I see I am paying for it. The day it was cracked AVG detected a trojan downloader, I don't remember the name since i dismissed it.(Had gotten them before with no problem.) But I still ran avg scans in normal and safe mode and deleted all files it showed as a threat. About 4 days later after no problem my computer started acting sluggish all of a sudden, the next day AVG detected a new threat "Exploit Spyware Scanner" through the web alert I believe it was and told me the infected file and process was IEXPLORE.EXE, which was odd since I had deleted internet explorer a long time ago. I finally found it in program files and attempted to delete it but it wouldnt let me. The files I was able to delete from the IEXPLORE.EXE folder would come back the second I deleted them so I gave up and started looking for help. Around this time I started getting popups mostly spyware/adware removal related while firefox was inactive. The site I went to suggested running SuperAntiSpyware removal program, so I did. Out of 50 minutes of scanning it has found these problems:
Adware.Vundo/Variant-PrintDlgExW 9 files
Adware.Vundo/Variant 2 files
Trojan.Downloader-NewJuan/VM 2 files
Adware.Hotbar/ShopperReports(low risk) 24 files

It has become impossible to find screensavers these days. All I see are screensavers that want you to buy, have stupid registration nags, come bundled with mysearch and the like, and mess up your comp.
I cannot find any junk-free screensavers.
Does anyone know where to find safe screensavers, as in no spyware and free. A little message at the top asking to register is OK, but spawning nag windows asking me to vist a link really irks me.

Am I out of hope?

All I've found so far are the MBSS screensavers, very nice but they do get old.

A:Spyware Free, Free Screensavers??

Since screens really don't require "saving" nowadays, they're not that popular. Besides, the real way to "save" the screen is to set it to power save mode after a period of inactivity.

I have been battling trying to fix my computer for the past four days. It started with my computer just restarting and then a blue screen would come up and it would automatically restart. After I would re boot I started to get these things popping up at the bottom of the screen saying my computer was infected and total security was start running itself. I didn't buy it and quickly began to search the web and see what it actually was. Sure enough it was a virus so I came to this website to see what I needed to do. I downloaded that Malware thing and it would load. I tried to rename it didn't work. oh yeah I also tried to do a system restore and it will not let me it is locked saying call my administrator. When I am regular mode I try to press cont alt del and the task manager doesn't pop up. It only allows the task manager to come up on safe mode under administrator. I have downloaded plenty of antivirus scanners. My mcafee isn't working, tried norton not working, pc tools, spyhunter. Some will actually load and scan and when it is like 75% done scanning it just disappears. I've deleted some of those long numbers like 12141123(stuff like that) under system 32 and now I am not getting total security to pop up but antivirus pro 2010 and microsoft phising... I have tried manually deleting things but that is too confusing and quite frankly I don't want to delete something that doesn't need to be. I hope someone can help me. Can you tell me what you think about free Tenebril's software spyware SpyCatcher-Express?
I would like to know if it is a legit one, because when I try to install it, Spyware Doctor alert me to uninstall it immediately.
Thanks,

Hi, my version of a2 free has expired. I thought it was supposed to be free throughout, but sad to say, it has expired. My KPF has also expired, but still functioning with some features disabled.

I wanna know if I need to download anymore programs to replace a2?

I'm currently running Spybot S&D (though it has no updates available for quiet a while), Avast!, Ad-Aware SE, Spyware Blaster.

I'm looking for freeware...

Thanks alot

I've had Vista Premium Home for couple of months.
I've installed AVG antivirus (free) and ZoneAlarm firewall (free) simply because I had these on my XP machine and I'm familiar with them.

What I need is a good free anti-spy app' for Vista to complete my "security suite"

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

What is the best "Free" Anti-spyware to use? I am thinking of installing "Super Anti-spyware" but don't know to install that or Lavasoft Anti-spyware. Been running "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" for a month and it has yet to find anything and put it in quartine.
Any and all help deeply appreciated,
God Bless,
Jenny

SAS is a good free program, though it tends to use a lot of CPU. For that reason I would not recommend using its realtime protection. But its a good on-demand spyware scanner.
Note that Malwarebytes antimalware is a malware-scanner, not a spyware scanner. I definitely should keep that one too.

Best NON FREE Virus/Spyware?

We used to use Norton - but had problem with them about 3 years ago.

Then we went to Trend PCillian & was happy withn them - till had a virus. We had just done major scan with Trend.
The MOST disappointing thing with Trend was their LACK of being able to solve the problem.

Hubby had to rebuild our computer.
