I purchased a legal copy of Norton Ghost 15 from Ebay online. In order to create the system recovery disk I have to have the iso file for it. It says this in the instructions of my Norton Ghost 15 software. So far I have had no luck finding a place to download it. I went to the Symantec site but was unable to find anything even remotely similar to what I wanted.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a Norton Ghost 12 rescue disk. Will this work with Norton ghost 15?

Hello All,
Would someone know how or if it is possible to merge 2 Norton Ghost 2003 GHS files into 1 file? I have put 2 files on a DVd but it cannoot locate the second(span) file. The first is ok. so I think putting the 2 files together as one might work. I have had no success with making a file bigger than 2048 with ghost 2003 and NTFS drives. Thank you Mike

This is my first attempt at using Ghost, so I know little or nothing about it. I'm hoping some of you guys with experience with it can help.

There are also what I deem to be side affects from the failed image creation.

I have attempted to create an image (to my slave drive) twice and each time, as Norton restarts the machine to create the image, the machine simply reboots but not fully. It gets to the point of detecting the drives and I get the "Missing Operating System" error.

Last night I had to use the procedures described here to boot back to Windows. The procedure described here did not work as when I typed in the commands I kept getting "Invalid Drive Specification" and I tried almost every letter in the alphabet. LOL
The possible causes of this are described here. The only one of those that applies to my situation seems to be that my BIOS is not compatible with PC DOS (The option I chose each time rather that MS DOS).
Now to the strange part. Last night I finally managed to delete the virtual partition and reset my C: (Primary with OS) back to active using the Gdisk procedures from the link above. I went to bed, as it was late, assuming everything was OK. All I did was check a few things. I have been entertaining the idea of installing 98se as a second OS (Currently running XP) and got up this morning to do some more studying to figure out exactly what route I wanted to take. I know 98 should be installed first ideally, but I am looking ... Read more

I'm confused as to what the benefits are of Ghost 10 over Save and Restore. The description of Save and Restore says it contains everything Ghost 10 does, plust more stuff. But they sell at the same price. Why would anyone want to buy Ghost 10?

Just want to make sure I fully understand what the products are offering.

Well, that beats all. I was using my Desktop and IE 11 this morning and sometime this afternoon I noticed the Norton Tool bar was gone and now the Norton auto log-on will not work. So, I did the circus tricks, reset IE 11, all that useless crap, uninstalled and installed Norton's, took three tries to download and install Norton's back on -- it finally worked for awhile, but still no Tool Bar. Then I was off then back on and the Tool Bar is missing again.

So, I start up my laptop and guess what! The Norton's Tool Bar is gone. This is getting old folks. No PC stuff for dummies, I've been at this computer stuff for 60 years.......... Anyone have any magic tricks for this? Sometimes I think Microsoft and Norton's programmers went into deep sleep.

So did Microsoft just make a new offer? No, this is about something has been offering for quite awhile. You just have to know what to look for.You can still get your hands on a no-cost upgrade to Windows 10 by turning to a page for people who use assistive technologies.Here is the page you want:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgradeThey use the term' 'assistive technologies' defined here:Assistive technology is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them.So this has a very broad range. I could include family member with a condition that would benefit ma technology that helps or rehabilitates. Also, Microsoft not putting down hard rules and proo0f of need or use. Until further notice,  you will use your own good judgement.Side note. Rather than install Windows 10 as an upgrade to anything, just install it as fresh install on a new disk or a clean partition. A upgrade have fail due to software compatibly issues.

A:How to Get Free Windows 10 Today.

I'm sure there is a subset of people who were resistant to upgrading to Windows 10 only until Microsoft said "OK the free upgrade offer is over now" when they decided "Oh yes it is".Allegedly it requires a call to MS support at a certain point in the process now, as it was subject to abuse.

Guys,

My Norton IS showed a URL Security Update today. The download part worked great. But the installation went...very...very....very...very slowly. If you are familiar with Norton IS, the URL Security Updates add those updates to the Parental Control List, than it is supposed to save the Parental Control List. It took about 5-10 minutes for the installation to complete and the program was very slow on closing. On the second install attempt, I received a Low Virtual Memory Warning. I also closed out of everything in the System Tray with no change. Restart gets everything back to normal, except Live Update shows that the URL Updates still need to be installed. I did this twice with the same result. (First time, I got no virutual memory warning.) I will wait for a week or so for a new update release. If that doesn't solve the problem I will be uninstalling the software and switching to AVG and use XP-SP 2's built-in firewall. I need to know if others are having problems today to determine if this is a fluke.

Norton said it was infected with Suspicious.Cloud.7.EP and killed the file.  I had initially downloaded an older version from Bleeping Computer (5.015) and attempted to run it.  It said that was an older version and directed me to download 5.017 which I did and which Norton said was infected.  Any ideas?  This has been a wonderful program and I'm pretty sure it's more of a Norton issue than it is an AdwCleaner issue.

A:Norton said today's download of Adwcleaner 5.017 was infected.

False detections by anti-virus programs for specialized fix tools are not uncommon.Bleeping Computer's hosted programs for download are trustworthy, safe and malware-free. However depending on the product some anti-virus software and other security scanners may flag certain programs as a threat for a variety of reasons when that is not the case.Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs and specialized fix tools (like <insert name>), may at times be detected by some anti-virus and anti-malware scanners as suspicious, a Risk Tool, Hacking Tool, Potentially Unwanted Program, a possible threat or even Malware (virus/trojan) when that is not the case. This occurs for a variety of reasons to include the tool's compiler, the files it uses, whether files are compressed or packed, what behavior (routines, scripts, etc) it performs, any registry strings it may contain and the type of security engine that was used during the scan. Other legitimate files which may be obfuscated, encrypted or password protected in order to conceal itself so they do not allow access for scanning but often trigger alerts by anti-virus software.When flagged by an anti-virus or security scanner, it's because the program includes features, behavior or files that appear suspicious or which can potentially be used for malicious purposes. Compressed and packed files in particular are often flagged as suspicious by security software because they have difficulty reading what is inside them. ... Read more

The other i am holding off my windows updates until tomorrow for good reason.
If I allow updates on the 30th, will windows 10 definitely not be downloaded?

I will maybe have a dual boot with windows 10 & 7. I am just using one windows 7 at the moment.

I do not want to waste the bandwidth and disk space.

I found this small program this evening and it looks very handy.

Only ran it for a few minutes and found a small problem.

Sorted my list by date and it is OK on the screen but prints in a different order.

Reported it to tech support and assume that it will either be fixed or I did something wrong. I assume that it is a relatively new program and they are looking for input.

In any case, the program looks like a keeper and you can't beat the price.

After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too.

Make an exact backup of your hard disk for restoration in the event of a system failure with the Keriver Image.

As a backup program for disaster recovery, Keriver Image is simple and efficient. If your disk or partition is no longer accessible due to corruption of the disk?s file system or operating system, and you previously created a disk image or partition image file, you can use that image file to restore the entire disk or partition. If the disk is physically damaged, you can use the image file to restore the entire disk.

As a backup program for file recovery, Keriver Image is quick and to the point. If you lose a file which does not have a backup, your previously created disk or partition image can be used with Keriver Image Explorer to extract just the file you need from within the image file.

Main Features:

- Supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Win7;
- Backup on Windows and From the recovery CD;
- Restore from the Recovery CD;
- Extract files from image file on Windows;
- Support Backup to and Restore from USB disk;
- Move or Resize partition when Restoring disk.

Hi,

I have Norton Ghost on my computer (was there when I bought it). I also have a CD or DVD with three Norton Ghost data files.

My computer's infected with some sort of popup making thing - Windows and/or Firefox browsers try to open. I think I have them blocked, but I'd like to be sure that my computer's clean, so I'm going to try restoring the original computer setup.

Question is, though - I have THREE Norton Ghost data files, and I can only restore one at a time. Is there a chance that I could partially delete Windows or some such awful thing if I try restoring one at a time? Or is there some way to restore all three data files at once?

I tried reading the manual, but I couldn't find any way to restore three files at once.

Thanks in advance.

One of the plugins available is for Norton Ghost 8. I used Ghost for several years and never saw this version. Is this just anther name for Ghost 2003?

It calls for a Ghost32.exe file and maybe that will give some clue about what it is. I don't use Ghost much anymore and it is not on my computer.

I have a network at my office (about 100 cpu's), all the same make-up and in the same workgroup. It's a school and the students tend to put (for lack of a better way to put it) CRAP on them frequently. I would like to have the cpu's "rebuild" themselves weekly (or so) to a set-up that I prefer. I have Norton Ghost 10.0 and just gave it a test run from one of my cpu's on the network to another. It worked sucessfully (both the copy and the recover). I just don't want to have to boot from the Norton CD on each and every machine to do the recover with 100 machines. Can I make a floppy boot disk that could handle the recovery unattended (more or less)?

EDIT: All machines run WinXP SP2.
Thank,
Mike

That can definetly be a lengthly administrative task if you let it be, but I do not think Norton has the ability to restore the ghost settings on defined time frame.

I suggest getting the program called DeepFreeze. The program essentially restores all settings and programs back to the way you wish each time the system is rebooted. They can install any program or make any setting change they wish, but next time it's rebooted, the program is erased and the orignal settings are restored.

I've worked with it in a school lab enviroment and it works very very well.

Hi,

I've recently had to use Norton Ghost to re-install a XP image after my use / encounter with PartitionMagic. PartitionMagic and BootMagic are such none user friendly programs. I'm trying Acronis now, is seems to be much better.

Anyhow, Norton Ghost seems to be just that, a Ghost of a re-install. The re-install is unstable, changing browser colors even after "fixing" them and making basic OS programs like defrag not work all together.

The concept of being able to do a 10-15 minute re-install from an image instead of a two day total re-install seems like the best idea ever, however, it seems to be just that an idea, a dream of one at that. It doesn't seem possible to get these types of programs to actually work.

So, is there a way to get Ghost to work properly (up to it's concept) and/or is there a better Ghost program out there than Norton's Ghost? Anyone?

Thanks.

John

A:Norton's Ghost.

In a work related basis I use ghost to re image the machines. This is a good tool to do multimle machine and make deployment of New system and re-builds of old systems from a base image very easy. The problem with it is that it is very hit and miss and can take a while to get working properly and you have to use boot disks or setup LAN PXE boot. This is not what I call a good solution for the home user.

For my home machine and builds that I do for the machines at home. (I am constantly rebuilding machines as I like to play arround and server testing for fun) I use Acronis True image. It is a really good and user friendly backup and imaging tool.
I would recommend this product to anyone and everyone in the home PC market that wishes to image there machines or backup certain parts of their file system effortlessly.

Ghost will see all your partitions. You may have to use a boot disc if you want to backup Linux. You have a choice of making a backup Image or cloning the whole drive. You may want to use Clonezilla, as it does the same thing, mainly because it's open source and free.

A:Norton Ghost

Hi,

If I have missed any info from the following, it is quite a straight forward process & the prompts will be self explainatory

Create a Ghost boot floppy/cd,
Boot the pc from this,
Create an image & save it to your dvd drive, (insert a dvd first)
You will be asked if you want to copy the boot floppy/cd, click ok. This will make the disk bootable.

You may have to span disks, meaning you will need more then 1 dvd, (you will be told how many will be needed before the burning begins).

The only way I have been able to do this to 1 dvd is to install Windows XP + all drivers & about 1 gig of programs onto a 6 gig hard drive, therefore keeping the drive content below 4 gig.

Hope this helps

A:Norton ghost

Sure, as long as the SATA drive is supported by INT-13 BIOS access. Most of them are, the clue will be if you can boot an MS-DOS floppy and it's able to see the drive exists.

After booting the MS-DOS floppy, you can type FDISK /STATUS and the drives that MS--DOS sees should be listed.

When backing up the image of one disk on to another, can we continue to use the computer, or should we wait until the bachup is over?

A:Norton Ghost 9.0

Hey there, welcome to TSG

Depends on the image. Most images don't include the types of files that get edited on a regular basis. If you're imaging everything...well, I don't know much about Ghost, but I'd be surprised if you could even do that from within a running operating system; I imagine you'd have to do that using a special boot disk.

At the very least, staying out of the box will probably allow the image to be compiled a little faster. You're imaging a box as a form of a backup? I've heard of this and even done it before for special requirements, but sometimes it's overkill.

Anyway, just my thoughts. Others might post their ideas too. I imagine this question might get a better response in the All Other Software forum; you might ask a moderator to move it for you if you don't get much response (don't double-post, please!)

chris.

Greetings.
I am n00b here, but not elsewhere. Have been trying to figure xp and ghost out. Ghosting 9x is easy, no hal. So, in xp, can you ghost it succesfully and format the disc and reinstall it? What parameters are used or not used. Does the disc size (hdd actual size, or part. size) have to be exactly the same? I have tried it a few times but am unable to get past the hal. I have tried sysprep, but that does not seem to do the trick. I have also tried some different tricks I learned whilst googling to remove the hal and then reinstall it before bootup, to put the ghost on another machine. I have not been succesfull in any attempt. I can ghost 98se on with cd in 5min or from hdd in 3 min, plus driver loadup if on a different rig. Then do an xppro upgrade. But, I have a lot of computers and I am tired of tweaking everyone that I upgrade as well. My goal here is to be able to have a "generic" ghost of xp that I can put on anyone's machine quickly, and then put in their "legal" numbers and such. So many people want to upgrade an older 500-700mhz to xp, and it usually takes longer than I can really charge them. Then I want to make a "tweaked" setup, so I can do all that stuff one time and not have to do it again. If I mess the registry up too bad from playing, or trying wierd stuff, just ghost it back.
But, I cannot figure out how to get it to ghost back to the same machine or a different one.
Any thoughts?

I am using Ghost 14, and I cannot backup my system to a DVD Burner.
When I manage to save off files, I am lost as to "How do I recover from a disaster failure. I printed the manual in the release software, and there was a mention of bootable software that would allow a full recovery from the saved data. Am I missing a piece of software?? I received 1 CD when I purchased this software. Is there a phone number I can call and get help in this area.

Thanks. I'll take help any way I can. Dave.

A:Norton Ghost 14

When you open Ghost go to the Tasks menu and you will see an option to make a recovery disk.
It will help you to create a disk to boot from for when it is needed.
