I was running the defragment function on my primary partition, which runs before windows starts up, and I accidentally shut off my laptop.

Now, when I try to reboot, I get the usual "Toshiba" screen, but it never gets to the loading windows screen.

Been trying to hit F8 to boot into safemode, but to no avail. Can I never access windows again?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I?ve already seen Paragon was giving Partition Manager Pro for free for a short while. I?ve downloaded and installed it successfully. Those who missed that day, can get it till October 25.
Here is the link: Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 As I can understand, they?ve just opened freeware downloads page. And sometimes commercial software will appear there for free. Very friendly I think for me it?s just like I earn 80 bucks for nothing (professional version of Partition Manager 10 costs $79.95)

So, what do we have here (taken from Partition Manager 10 site, but it works for 9.5):
Advanced Partitioning Operations: Enlarge NTFS partitions without rebooting Windows or interrupting your work, repartition hard disks without data loss, redistribute free space between partitions, merge two partitions to one etc.
Apple? BootCamp Support: Redistribute unused space between Mac? OS X and Windows partitions (great for me!)
Initial Backup Facility
Safe Defragmentation Mode
Etc.
Full feature list is here . The difference is that 9.5 doesn?t support Windows 7.
The program runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista (32 or 64 bit).
And Paragon provides user support only for the promo period. And only on Twitter . No WinPE included.
You will need to input your email on registration page to get a free serial ? that is your only payment for the soft.

A:Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 Professional Free download

The difference is that 9.5 doesn’t support Windows 7.

Actually - they don't claim it - but it does support Windows 7.

I have been using for a while on my 7 x64 - it works perfectly.

It is exactly the same build as the PM10

The only you don't get - is the WinPE disc and Adaptive restore feature. Run off the bootable Linux/dos cd from within the program to get it in bootable form.

Terriffic opportunity to get a great piece of software - Paragon are the best in Hard Disk Management.

Hi, I?m about to commite suicide so I just wanted to make a final query before I do it.

I have a 320 GB western digital HD, it has windows 7 (x64) in one partition and data in the other.
I used paragon partiton manager to redistribute the free space (don?t ask me why didn?t I use the W7 features please). It did, but the partition with all the data was "not formatted". It showed the exact used and free space (so no data loss) but I couldn?t have acces to it. I manged to convert it to NTFS... still showed the right used and free space, but no luck having acces to the files.

So I used the W7 function to check the disk... and after it finishes it the partition with the data is empty, the OS partition is intact, but the other one is empty.

I tried everything, so I?m not actually asking for a solution, my question is:
Given the fact that I haven?t erased the partition or deteled it or have done anything other than redistribute the free space... will a professional HD recovery be able to restore the filesystem or the files?

Thanks in advance.

A:EMpty partition after redistributing free space with paragon manager

Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD which has helped with hundreds of complicated partitioning operations here without a single failure. Partition Wizard

First from the Wizards tab, run Partition Recovery Wizard to see what it finds. When you identify the lost partition by size and space usage, tick the box next to it and restore it.

If this fails, use the Data Recovery Wizard or Recuva data Recovery software.

In the future, always keep your files backed up externally and ask here for exact steps to repartition or "redistribute free space" (whatever that means).

It deactivated all my drives including c:\ apart from partition D:\ which it made active and a primary NFTS partition and made me reboot. I planned to install my new OS but my CD was corrupt! I tried to log back in but i just got the message ``NTLDR MISSING``. I have played about with the BIOS setup, i even visited this site: http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrismissing.htm to try and create a rebootable USB to reboot my system and login. Thankfully, it worked, but after the windows loading screen it shows a message `autochk not found - skipping` then the screen turns blue and a message comes up with the error `STOP C000021a` appears. Thats the only thing thats now stopping me from loggin in to my computer. Can somone please help, i need your guidance urgently, thankyou.

Hi Guys,
I have just used Paragon HD Manager v.6 to resize my partition on a WinXP machine and I have lost some space on the C: drive.

The setup was:
C: drive 24GB
D: drive 56gb

What I did was:
- Reduced in size the D: drive to 20gb, and dragged to increase C: drive the remaining space between the two partitions. Now the D: drive is 20gb, however the C: drive is in a mess, I still only have 2gb of space available, Paragon and System manager report partion as 55GB, however Windows explorer reports it as still 24gb with only 2gb free space.

How do I recover the space I just created? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

currently using Paragon HD Manager 2010 Pro and i'm curious about the Boot Manager feature that it has.

I currently have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 dual booted with my Windows 7 X64. I installed Windows 7 first, then ubuntu.

When i boot up my computer it uses GRUB which is the loader for Ubuntu, and i can select Windows 7 from this menu.

What i want to know is, will paragon boot manager basically do the same thing for me? I know GRUB is doing this for me, but when i update the kernel in ubuntu it adds un-needed entries at boot which is tacky and ugly and i dont like it and i'm nervous about configuring GRUB =)

I have my machine backed up so if i mess anything up, i'm safe. I figured i'd post my question here to see if i can avoid restoring from backup or maybe get some insight that will blow me away and make me feel stupid. -Fingers Crossed.-

Definitely worth getting.

In addition , you create vhd's as well as mount them , perform partitioning operations, and access the files inside.

It also includes P2P Adjust ( makes an o/s bootable on new hardware ).

It doesn't come with a boot disc - you can easily make your own.

I have a paid for version of Acronis 2011 True Image, a paid for version of Paragon Partition Manager? 11 SE Personal, but only the trial version of the Hard Disk Manager, and it's the 2009 version.

Two questions :-

Will the backups made with the 2009 suite be readable if I buy the upgrade to Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2011 Suite.

Secondly, I have seen on a Win7 video tutorial, that you can do a bare metal backup of the OS using Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2011 Suite, with Winpe 3.0, is this possible on Vista?

This is a great app. , partitioning and backup all in one program . Particularly useful is the ability to resize Extended partitions.

It is a big download because it includes an excellent bootable disc.

As usual with Paragon , though you have t d/l the app. , and get the product key today - once you have them , you can reinstall as often as you like.
Unzip the large file, run the setup.exe that GOTD wraps it in - then it will extract the actual installer direct to your C drive ( by default - but you can change that).

It doesn't "officially" support 7 - but I have no trouble running using it on 7 x64. The partitioning rules for Vista and 7 are the same.

The bit that doesn't recognize 7 - therefore won't add it in - is the bcd corrector - which is in the boot corrector module on the bootdisc. You are not likely to use that anyhow.

Hi
Potentially really bad news here.

I thought I would do a backup boot n other partitions on drive 1 (Win 7 32bit) and used the One Button Copy Disk command on Paragon B&R 10 thinking it would copy to a previous backup. It didnt. It copied and (maybe) overwrote an active partition on drive 2. But maybe not...

When I look in Paragon the drive 2 overwritten just says its a basic hard disk 1 (ATA Toshiba DT01ACA3 SCSI Disk Device) of 3 terra and there is nothing on it. It also does not have a drive letter associated.

When I look on EaseUS Partition Master Pro Edition v9.2.2 I can see it all as Disk 2 with 4 active partitions and an unallocated space of 2TB.

This is where I might get out of jail -
When I installed this 3 terra Toshiba 7200 SATA I soon found that win32 cant handle anything over 2 terra with a MBR and that there is GPT to get all 3 terra usage. Tried that and I couldn't get it to work so I ended up reformatting back to MBR and made a partition of 2 terra (thats important for later on) with unallocated space of about 750Gb.

The little hope I have of getting back my files is this - seems Paragon Backup & Recovery MAY have chosen to make the 4 new partitions - cloned from the disk C/boot is on, to the unallocated space on the three terra - and those 4 partitions amount to 400 Gb. That left an unallocated partition of 2 terra, with no drive letter, no nothing - dead space I cant use. Im taking it to a pro shop for surgery hoping this -

Hi there - installed the RC when it came out, and today I used the free version of EASEUS to add one partition. After the partition change, it rebooted and I got an error that said Windows detected some kind of problem (like a moron I didn't write the error # down) and that I needed to repair using the installation disk.

So I stuck in the 7 DVD and clicked on repair, which was the recommended option. Only other option was to start normally. After a few seconds of scanning it restarted, and I got the same error message, and again, the option to repair or to start normally. This time I started normally and 7 loaded fine. New partition was there and it seems to be working ok.

On the EASEUS forums, they said it should be compatible with 7. But they're not testing with the beta, and I guess the RC but I didn't read that.

Am I asking for trouble if I don't clean install 7 again, and just keep using the new partition?

IMO, the best free software to do the recovery from a RAW disk is Test Disk. TestDisk - CGSecurity

It can be a little daunting for the first time user, and so take your time to read through all the documentation.

First use PhotoRec in it - which does not write anything to the drive in question - and try to recover the files.

Then you can use TestDisk and try to rewrite the partition. Some people have reported that even after restoring the partition with TestDisk, the drive remained RAW but they were able to recover most files using the option to copy.

Whether PhotoRec or TestDisk, it is going to take a lot of time to recover the files. Copy them to another external drive with adequate capacity.

You may find some help here to understand the usage.

Partition Wizard is one that we use frequently without any problems.

Free Partition Magic alternative. Free Partition Manager Software for Windows 7/VISTA/XP/2000 and Windows Server 2003/2008/2000.

Note: You need to download the ISO and burn it to a blank disc, and then boot into it and carry out your re-partitioning from there. If you just download the application and run it from your hard drive, you are likely to experience problems.

I have tried twice, to update my 8.1 to 10 but have failed with the error Code 80070003. I gave up the attempts but now hope that either Microsoft or EaseUS have provided a fix for this error. However, it seems that neither company wish to resolve it. After much searching and reading on the 'net, I have been following a similar post (sorry, don't seem to be able to get the link to work) on this forum.
Windows 8.1 Recovery - Could not find recovery environment

I have the same issue: I have partitioned my C drive to have 2 extra partitions.
Comparing the above image to the DISK PART I have different partitions and I am not sure which is which.
I am unsure which partitions need renaming with a change of ID. I also need an explanation as to the partition IDs: How do you know what they are, where can you find them.

Being 70 years old, I am somewhat at a loss of all the technical terms used.

Many thanks in advance.

I hope you can see the images; I set them to nearly the maximum width or height as specified, but they have come out very small.
(Edit: Images appear much large in the post)

A:EaseUS Partition Manager and Windows 10 upgrade

You already seem to recognize the problems of using EaseUS to alter partitions. You also probably realize looking at the partition structure with different utilities will give you different information, such as EaseUS showing partition as NTFS where Diskpart shows it as OEM.

The second 1000 MB partition showing as OEM is normal if I remember correctly. I do not, however, remember it showing as FAT32. In some cases multiple FAT32 partitions will cause problems for a UEFI install as you have. This will happen with Linux installs which also will set some partitions in this manner. But I will have to do some research to see if I can find out for sure.

If the other partitions on your system now marked as OEM are involved, you may need to change them back. Since it has been a while, I will have to find the threads showing how to do this. If you don't think you will be able to change them, you may want to see if you have the means of restoring your system back to a factory default, which probably means you need external media.

The other option might be to purchase Windows 10 and do a clean install which would wipe your hard drive.

Someone will get back to you before the end of the day.

Gday

I have emailed Paragon and am awaiting there reply, but you guys seem to know a lot more and try and solve the problem

Up to this point I have used either Acronis or Paragon for my backups, I prefer Paragon over Acronis, mainly because the restore by Paragon is far quicker.

I have both bootable CD's, but in this instance I would like to concentrate on Paragon.

I downloaded Paragon's Advanced Recovery CD. 2009 Build 6730. Put it in my rom and booted ....... looked at a black screen for 10 minutes. Removed it and rebooted, it got stuck at the loading of Vista, then I got another black screen no hard drive movement.

Rebooted again, this time with the regular Paragon bootable CD. It booted into the recovery console.

Now this is where things go from bad to worse. I tried finding my OS, after a lengthy period I received an error disk 2 i/o fault!!! ....... no operating system found.

Now disk 2 is my external hard drive where my backups are kept.

So I rebooted with the CD in, went into the recovery console and clicked on "safe restore", after playing the waiting game I get a message disk 2 i/o fault!!!.

Took out the Paragon CD, put in the Vista one, tried a repair, but there was no OS to repair .

So I installed Vista, and because I didn't want to have to reinstall all of my programs again (yer lazy I know, but that's what backup's are for).

Checked with the fresh install, that my two external hard drives, had there drivers and were present. They were ... Read more

I loaded a hard disk formatted as a Windows Primary Disk onto my SATA controller. The BIOS sees the disk. In this case I want to load the new disk as a secondary drive (of course I have booted with a different hard disk). I load the Partition Manager and inside I find that the partition manger does not see the new disk. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the new disk being a Windows 7 primary boot partition as well. I was hoping to get a drive letter mapped to it so I could extract some data from that disk. What should I be doing when this occurs?

Thank you...

A:Partition Manager. Primary Boot Partition as Secondary Drive.

Have you tried Disk Management? Right click computer and select manage, in the left column select disk management. In the lower portion of the window you will see each hard drive with drive letters. If you see one with no drive letter, right click it and select 'change drive letter or path, next screen select add, and pick whatever drive letter you would like from the drop down list. Once it gives it a drive letter, you will be able to see it in explorer. If you have data on the drive you would like to keep, Do Not format it, if Disk Management wants to.

Hi all,
I want to dual boot linux and XP but in oder to back up my data i want to create a logical partition for it. I want this partition to be inside the windows NTFS partition. Unfortunatly i cannot create another partition just for the data. The only option is that it stays inside along with XP. My question is will windows XP still boot when it is on a logical drive in a primary extended partition?
I use partition magic 8.0 and when i do this and preview, PM says under the column "Status" that the logical drive is bootable. Is this true will i be able to boot xp from a logical drive? If not is there any other efficient way to back up my data before dual booting with linux.

Hello there.
Recently, after trying to format a memory stick i have encountered some problems:
- after right clicking on the stick or on a partition and selecting format, nothing happens. literally nothing, its like i didn't press it.
- another a bit troubling issue, is that when i tried to scan with my antivirus, i get that the scan engine cant initialize, although the whole software works. I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2010

I am currently scanning with ESET Online Scanned for viruses, to be sure i don't have a nasty one, but from what i see is that other then that, everything works fine.
LATER EDIT: Finished the scan, with no issues. So i'm squeaky clean.

Also the troubling memory stick, i went to another PC, and was virus free and also was easily formatted.

So i am afraid is something related to the system or something like that.

I hope someone has an idea or solution regarding this issue.

Thank you.

Hello all,

I have an Acer Aspire laptop that is running Vista (though not right now; I can't get it to boot to Windows completely). Currently, the laptop boots to Windows Boot Manager where there are two options: Microsoft Windows & Description for earlier version (I set this second one up last night).

When Microsoft Windows is selected, the bottom part of the screen is this:
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

When Description for earlier version is selected, this is the bottom of the screen:
File: \ntldr
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

In both situations, I have to put a recovery or system disc in to get the laptop to boot to Startup Repair. Startup Repair allows me a command prompt, though which I spent 8 hours yesterday working with self-help websites trying to get the problem solved. Vista is still on the C drive, as I've DIR'ed it though the command prompt. I also ran chkdsk and got no errors.

One more detail. Amongst the self help yesterday, I landed on a page at tinyempire.com that helped me to create an ISO image with 10 options on it. The directions said to go through each option and see if you could get into Vista. Option 7 booted me into Acer Arcade Deluxe. Hi, not sure if this has been covered before here, but I couldn't find a solution.

I'm using Windows 2000 and task manager won't appear. No error message, just doesn't appear. CTRL+ALT+DEL brings up the menu of shut down, log off, task manager etc, but task manager doesn't show. It also doesn't show with CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. I've also tried putting Taskmgr into RUN but I get the error message "another program is currently running this file".

If anyone can help out I'd appreciate it.

EDIT: I figure I should add this too as it's a similar problem... when I startup the computer, I get a normal log-in screen for username and password, when I log-in, the desktop doesn't show. I've been getting around it by just logging in a second time, but if anyone knows about this problem and can help me out It'd be a great help.

Until here there's not a problem.

When I try to run an application which uses the device, Windows informs me that there's a device trying to connect to my computer, and asks me for the pairing key.

Since I've already added the device to my computer, why does Windows doesn't recognize it? Why does it treat it as something new?

Ok first of all, i try to open 'msconfig' the normal way under 'run...', but now it doesnt open any more when i try to get to it. I want to change some of my startup options but now nothing happens when i try to get to that window.

A semi-similar problem happens when i try to bring up task manager with 'control-alt-delete' except that the window flashes on the screen for a split second, then disappears. A task manager icon appears on the bottom right tray but disappears when i mouse over it. I made a new shortcut to task manager that i pinned to my start menu which brings up the task manager window. This works and the window does not go away; it stays on the screen normally and everything is a-ok. now i'm wondering how i can get the normal 'control-alt-delete' method to work again, or if there is a way i can make 'control-alt-delete' a shortcut to the new task manager shortcut that works.

So theres two problems i have here that may or may not be related.

Also, in the Windows Task Manager, there are several active processes that have irregularly low memory usage numbers than usual. Often times programs such as Firefox remain running even though I have closed the browser.

Hello everyone:

Does anyone know what could cause the Windows Task Manager to disappear from the screen before you can click anything in it. This happens right after I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. It is really strange.

The same thing happens when I try to run regedit. I would really like to get this problem fixed...

A:Windows Task Manager and Regedit Problems

Hi awlucky3k

Welcome to TSG!

There are several viruses/trojans that will cause that.

Please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log. Click "Save" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I have some problems with my laptop ASUS K55VD. I had windows 8, but with the store of windows I have updated to windows 8.1.

I have tried to use the recovery partition, but every time I try appears a message. Failed to reset your computer. A partition of unity necessary is missing.
For that reason I have looking for some information, and with CMD commands like "diskpart". I have noticed that I have 8 volumen.

And in Computer Management appears this.

Then googling recommend to use EaseUS Partition, and some many things change. In the beginning, I had the same 3 partions in red and I don't know what happened.

But in diskpart change too, and I only have 4 volume, and it have dissapeared the recovery partition, and I don't know why?

Before to use EaseUS partition I have created a USB booteable with 9.79gb, and I had this:

But, in this days I have tried to create the USB booteable again, but I can't. And everytime I have tried to run the usb, appears to select the language, the keyboard, and then appears the same windows with troubleshoting and turn off (it returns at the previous windows in blue)

So I have tried to apply the recovery partition, but I have the same problems,... the unit necessary is missing...
For that, I don'w know what to do...
Help.

A:Problems with recovery partition in ASUS with Windows 8

If your recovery usb is 8.0, it won't let you Refresh now you have 8.1 installed.

It should let you Reset, though.

hello,

main problem is that i cannot get past the early stages of installation, the custom install screen where you go in and can set up a partition.
it says current drive is formatted as MBR and that the EFI system will only work on the GPT???

Any ideas how to format drive or what is wrong?
i also downloaded the correct file from the microsoft, the media creation tool and used a usb stick to boot from.

it will not let me create a new partition or reformat the existing partition, i tried all the available options.

also, i might add, i bought the laptop new online and it was without an opeating system, i am installing a new copy of windows 10.

the laptop is a lenovo ideapad 100-14iby.

thanks in advance!

A:windows 10 install problems - formatting partition

MBR works with disks up to 2 TB in size, but it can’t handle disks with more than 2 TB of space. whereas GPT can work with discs much higher then 2TB's.

you might need to make some changes. but first go into the bios and check to see if the bios is able to support both eufi and legacy boot. if not your bios may need updating. if BIOS version is v2.00 or older, please flash your BIOS to v2.01 first, before proceeding to flash your BIOS to v2.05. see the lenovo support page and read the info:
BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32-bit & 64-bit), Windows 10 (32-bit & 64-bit) - ideapad 100-14IBY, 100-15IBY, Lenovo B50-10 Laptop - Lenovo Support (GB)

the whole HDD would need to be formatted afaik. this will delete/wipe all partitions and start afresh. the free version of easeus partition tool can convert mbr to gpt. see the link:

My computer came with one great big partition, with XP Home installed on it. For four months all my data got stored on that same partition. Then I got partition magic, and decided to make a separate partition for all my files. This turned out to be too small, after I'd transfered all my music, plus my work files to it. I then tried to repartition the drive, taking most of the spare space from the XP drive and giving it to the data drive.
Just as it started to widen the Data drive, and after shrinking the XP drive, it crashed. Now XP doesn't boot, and my data partition is corrupted too.
I've been daft and so have no backup of my data, and no partition magic back-up floppies. Is there anyway I can get the data back?

If it's any help, Ubuntu is also on the laptop, and working fine.

Do you have the installation CD? If so, "BART PE" may be the solution. I have used it with success. Here is the link: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

I have been running with a SATA 200GB drive for about 6 months or more as a secondary drive with a much smaller (80gb) IDE drive as my primary..

I left an 85GB partition free on my SATA drive to copy my primary drive C (IDE partition) to when I was ready to deal with it.

I used partition magic 8.0 to copy my drive C to my unallocated space. When I set up the copy sequence in PM it says "warning drive may not be bootable", Proceed or cancel. I do proceed.

I remove my IDE drives, and even removed my DVD writer drive. (power from all of them.)

When I power on, just as PM had said, it says please insert a boot diskette.

I've considerred reinstalling windows, but according to other forums and discussions I would then need a floppy with MB SATA drivers and I don't have a floppy drive, and hate to get one just for this one operation. If I boot into windows after everything has been copied via PM, everything is there on the SATA drive, a mirror image of my drive C. But, I can't boot off of it.

My guess is the master boot record (mbr), needs to be created or made active or something. (yes I made the new partition active, no difference.)

Is this a boot issue due to windows xp MBR (or something else windows xp related) or is this a boot issue due to trying to boot off of a SATA drive?

Lastly, Is it an absolute requirement that I have to reinstall windows using a floppy and mb drivers to load the sata drive and go through that who... Read more

Hi,
MSDN member.
Primary OS is Windows 8.1 but I need to install a Windows 7 partition for testing. I've followed threads dealing with others also having problems but they've not solved mine.
I've several SATA and one SSD HDD. Windows 8.1 is installed on SSD. I'm trying to install W7 + update 1 from msdn supplied ISO burned to DVD onto an empty 2TB HDD. I've unplugged a couple of USB flash drives. Checked that AHPI (or whatever it's called) for my SATA drives is turned on. Had safe boot off and on. Checked it's MBR partition and not GPT. I've also run through the installation problems thread.
When I get to the pictured screen, I select the empty disk and attempt to set it up but nothing happens when I press Apply and I get the following message when I press the next button. I've never had problems like this before and don't know what else I can try to fix it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jfluu8o41w...15000.png?dl=0

A:W7 won't install on partition. Disk drive partition problems

If the 2TB drive is empty (not used) then delete all the partitions until it's just unallocated space, then click Next to start the install. The installer will create the partitions it needs then do the install.

1) Run a scan with malwarebytes antimalware (you can download the free version). Let it clean whatever it wants to.

Also, doublecheck that your Task Scheduler service is running. (Click on Start button, then type "Services.msc" without quotes).

I have been given the challenge to make a way to install Windows without any installation media and without having to even touch the computer while it's installing. So far I've made a .wim image with the help of this guide and I've made an Autounattend.xml file with the help of this guide. I put the install.wim image in the \sources directory on a flash drive and the Autounattend.xml file in the root of the flash drive, and it does exactly what I want it to - all except it's not on a partition. So I move it to a partition and add a boot entry using EasyBCD. It boots fine, but it acts like the Autounattend.xml file isn't even there. So right now I have the choice of hands free installation with media, or manual installation without media. My main question is why the Autounattend.xml file isn't working when I boot the same media from a partition. Any help is greatly appreciated.

"The partition is either full, damaged, not formatted, or formatted with an incomparable file system. To continue installing windows setup must format this partition."

C: partition1 [unknown] 147581 mb (147581 free 0 on 152626 mb disk 0 at 0 on bus 0 on atapi [mbr]

So my question is, is there something I can do to repair the partition with out having to format/wipe out the info thats already on it?

A:Missing NTLDR, trying to repair Windows XP, having partition problems

These symptoms are telling you that the hard drive is bad. There's really is no way you can use it the way you want. The best thing to do is to get another drive and install Windows fresh including all the Windows Updates and computer's drivers. Then either get a USB enclosure or install the old drive a a second drive and try to recover your files that way

I wonder if there's a chance I can still save my Windows 7. Here's what happened and what I am left with (laptop Toshiba Satellite C655):
1) Used EaseUS under Win to modify Windows system partition (to shrink it and make space for Ubuntu, making an extra partition formatted Ext3. Did not touch Recovery and Boot Win partitions.

2) During Ubuntu installation, I split Ext 3 partition, adding swap area. I believe might have removed "Primary" property from one of the 2 Win partitions (Boot or Recovery), but I reset it back immediately under Ubuntu install partition manager. Did not have problems booting Windows or Ubuntu after install.

3) Same steps done earlier installing Ubuntu alongside XP did not cause any problems.
This time, when I attempted to run Windows "Recovery" (recover to factory state), by pressing 0 during power-up, as it's done with this laptop--I could not do recovery this way anymore of course as Ubuntu install disables this interrupt--but I run Windows Recovery from boot manager, like I done many, many times with XP--this time however, I got unusual screens and a couple of error messages. After pressing cancel on these messages I was able to get to System Restore to Factory State option.

4) After selecting that option, system began recovery to factory state, but, after about 10 minutes displayed error message, asking to press OK to shut down laptop.

5) After shutting down and booting, got grub rescue/no such partition message. I could se... Read more

A:Can I still save my Windows (Ubuntu install/partition problems)?

No need for reply, I brought the dead recovery partition back to life...
Moved Win recovery partition several blocks back (have no clue how it got moved forward), run repair MBR and set it as active... it went into clean recovery on power up then.

It seems to be impossible to do factory restore of Win 7 (at least with Toshiba restore) without wiping out present Linux--it was possible with XP. Even if I specify small partition to occupy for Windows, the factory restore kills everything else and creates free space without file system where the Linux was before. So will have separate laptop for linux from now on.

Anyone know if there is a way to get Ranish Partition Manager to work on an NTFS WinXP Pro system? I have an 80GB hard drive that I want to partition into 4 partitions.

If Ranish can't do it, does anyone know of any other good free method of doing so without having to format the drive and reinstall the os and everything?

Just wondering if there was a good partition manager out there that works through vista and would save me having to boot from a third party app.

I just can't get the Disk management to work in Vista, keep getting the error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation".

Even though there is 68Gig free it wont let me creat a new partition of any size.

Thanks.

Hi TommyK,

Vista Disk Management is good, but it is limited to not being able to work when unmovable files like Virtual Page File, Shadow Copy, System Restore, etc... are not allowing the partition to be created.

Other than doing what you want when reinstalling Vista, you will need to use a 3rd party program like Acronis Partition Expert in the Disk Director Suite. You can try a 15 day trial version here:

I wish to divide my single 500GB  C drive into two parts so that I can keep XP on one and put Windows 7 on the other. (How can I boot into the choice? -possible?)

Also on another computer I wish to shrink the D partition (of backup stuff) releasing 7 GB to merge into the C partition. Now I can do the shrinking but that puts the 7 GB into another partition to the right of D which cannot be merged with C as it is not contiguous which seems to be the case with the managers I've tried - Easeus, PartitionMagic.

Perhaps these operations are impossible?

Thanks for advice.

A:I need a partition manager to do these things.....

First, you need to find out if your hardware is compatible with Windows 7 if you haven't done that.
Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center

For excellent advice on how to dual boot XP and 7 or just replace XP with 7,  here are two links:
How to Move On After Windows XP Without Giving Up Your PC
How to Dual Boot Windows 7 with XP or Vista

On the second computer, move the files from D to another drive...either flash or hdd or DVD(s).
Use one of the programs you have to delete the D partition after moving the files.

Before attempting to shrink the new enlarged Windows XP installed partition, be sure to defragment the drive first.
