We have two older computers, both with Microsoft Works - as well as Word. Our newer laptop has stand alone Word 2013. I would like to know how to copy a WDB document on flash drive and put it on the laptop with Word 2013.
Thanks

A:Converting a Microsoft WDB to a Word document

If you can save the file on the older computer as a .csv file it will open in Excel if you have that on the laptop. As far as I'm aware .wdb files are database documents so you'll probably struggle to open it in any word processing program without the use of a third party file converting program. I could well be wrong there though.

I just started using Word 2007 and am having some difficulty adjusting to the changes.

Specifically, I have created a lot of forms in Word 2003 by using text boxes and dropdown lists. After creating these forms, I protected the documents and other people within my organization use them as templates, i.e. performance review forms, OSHA First Report of Injury.

My problem is that I can't convert some of the forms to 2007. Sometimes the 2007 Protect Document feature works great and other times it doesn't work at all. I really don't undertstand what the problem is.

I tried to upload the form here but I received an error message which said that the format was invalid.

I'm desperate. Can you help me?

I am having a huge problem converting a "rescued" file. I typed a document up in Word and saved it. (I know it was saved because I attached it to an email.) However, when I went back to open it up again, it was gone. It took me forever to actually find it on my computer, but it was in notepad format and a bunch of symbols and titled a rescued document. Even when I paste it to word, it is still all symbols. Is there any way to get back my original? Even if I can just see the words and have to retype it?

Does anyone noe weather vista Microsoft word support the old formated ones? Or is there any plug-in needed to support?

A:Does Vista Microsoft Word Support Old Format Microsoft Word?

I'm assuming you're talking about the new office 2007? meaning word 2007?

If that is the case, then yes it does run older versions of word. In the sense that if you have a word document that was made and saved in Word 2003 it would work in 2007.

Just like when you make something in word 2007 you are able to save it as a Word 03-07 document so it works on both versions of Microsoft Word.

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have a doc created using Word 2003. the doc is around 60 pages having text, Visio drawings (pasted as pic) and 2 sections- portrait section and landscape section.
When opening it in Word XP, in print layout view, word continuously repaginates the doc. In each movement in the doc a message in the status bar appears- Word is repaginating the doc. this action is performed continuously and the display of the doc "shakes".
In the first attempt, I just attempted to open it using Word XP.
In the second attempt- I saved the doc as word97-2009 & 6.0/95-RTF(*.doc). word converted it and from 1.7M file it became around 25M. The problem I described persisted.
Can someone assist?

I recently used winundelete to recover files that I accidentally deleted. Now all my former word files are unreadable. I used Microsoft's fixit program to correct the mswrd632 error. That fix allowed me to at least open the files. But the content is not readable. It is in "code". Below is a sample of what I mean:

E2J [email protected] FKD EUK =QQ 6JY 3J` 2QS 0UM1XP 4^V 5aY4^V 1XP /UM .TM-SL -RK ,QJ ,MJ,NK -PM.RO /SS0UU 1WX1XY 5ab6de 8ik;np <nr :mr:lq [email protected]{ A}A~ GL G<up 8kh0\Y )>I

It does not happen with all of the files, but only with some of them. The files were originally saved as Word 97-2003 files that used the .doc extension. Using Word 2007 has the same problem.

Any insight would be appreciated.

alright my problem is that i have already used microsoft word 2000 for awhile now and its been fine, no problems whatsoever then about week ago it started doing a lot of crazy stuff when i opened it. this happens every single time. i open it and it states that
it is preparing to install microsoft word 2000 (i already have it installed) then it states that it must gather the required information. At first i thought it was an update so i decided to let it continue. when it was finished it said that "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not availible. please insert the microsoft word 2000 disk and hit ok" alright the thing was it wasn't an update. and i couldn't find my word CD because it hasn't asked for one ever since i installed it. I then hit cancel and everything went away and about a minute later my microsoft word 2000 came up and it had no updates and was functioning fine but it was going about half the speed it usually does. Other than that there were no other problems and i continued with my work. The only thing that really bugs me is that this entire process takes about 5 minutes every time I start up... so its kinda of a pain... is there any way to get rid of this? thx to all... Peace Out

Is there any handy way to convert from a works doc. to a word doc?

A:converting from works (wdb) to word

By using a file format converter in Microsoft Word, you can open documents that were created in Microsoft Works. After you open the document, you can save it in Word format.

On the File menu, click Open.
In the Files of type list, click Works 6.0 & 7.0.
If you don't see this option in the list

Install the file format converter as follows:
Exit all programs.
Do one of the following:
If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, double-click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
In the Currently installed programs list, click either Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office Word 2003 (depending on whether you installed Word as part of Office or as an individual program), and then click Change.
The Configuration Wizard opens.

On the Maintenance Mode Options page, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
If you installed Word as part of Office, then on the Custom Setup page, select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box, and then click Next.

On the Advanced Customization page, click the plus sign (+) next to Office Shared Features.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Converters and Filters, and then click the plus sign (+) next to Text Converters.
Click the arrow next to Works for Windows 7.0, and then click Run from My Computer.

Hey gang, I was hoping someone out there could lend me a hand with a question I've had for a while. A few years ago, I bought Word 6.0 for my first PC, which came on six or seven 3.5 floppy discs. Then about two years ago, I bought the Word 97 upgrade, which came on a CD. Since the Word 97 CD is just an upgrade, any computer I put it on must of course first have Word 6.0 on it. Which means I have to sit there and install it, disc by disc. This can be sort a pain, time wise. What I was wondering is, is there any way to put all the files onto 1 CD (if they'd all fit) so that putting 6.0 onto my computer is as easy as upgrading it to Word 97? I know very little about this sort of thing and I wonder if it's possible, given the fact that the computer has to know which disc to read, etc. It's entirely possible that just dumping it all onto one CD won't work at all. Which is of course why I'm posting this here, to make sure I'm not just totally barking up the wrong tree with all this. Figured I'd ask some folks who know, before I foolishly waste time trying it out. Anyhow, if anyone out there has any thoughts on this, I'd very much appreciate hearing them. Thanks very much for your time and attention. Cheers.

A:Converting 3.5 Discs (of Word 6.0) To Just One CD?

Sometimes you can just use disk one for the upgrade to discover weather or not you have a version that qualifies for an upgrade. If you have the CD-KEY for a full version of Word 97 it will install the full version even though your CD is an upgrade version. What you were suggesting would not work because the upgrade looks for the information in the registry or a system file if I am not mistaken.

I am trying to send out an invitation. I set it up in Word (text and some .gif pics copied in) and am trying to convert it into HTML so that I can then copy it into an email and preserve the formatting. From Word I do, Preview as Web Page and everything looks great, so I save it as an HTML file. Then when I open up the HTML file all the pictures are Red x's. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

A:HELP: Converting Word Doc to HTML

the pictures are not going to be saved with the formating to html. You are going to need to post the files online to be viewable by the recipients and even then their email software might now allow them to view the images right away.

But if you want to see your images your going to have to save them in the same directory as your html document or edit the html to look for them in the right place. You would need to zip the hole thing up and send it as an attachment though.

good luck

Okay--don't laugh. I still do my basic report writing using MSWord for Dos (still faster for me). The font I have been using is Times Roman 12 point. When finished, I open the document in Word for Windows. I had been using Office 97 and the conversion was pretty good. Now, when using Office 2000, I always get a Time Roman 10 point instead of 12 point. I have even experimented with different 12 point fonts (CG Times, Courier, etc.) but when Office 2000 converts, the result is always 10 point. What is going on?

Good afternoon,

i have just changed jobs to a company i used to work for and due to the economic climate have not updated their computer system, and i was hoping that there was a program that i can add to my computer to allow me to read .wps and .wks documents generated by an earlier version of word, mainly to convert and store them onto a cd.

is there anything i need to look for on the free download sites?

Grateful for any advice!

My XP system w/outlook keeps changing my email Word documents to WordPad which causes me to lose the original format of the document sent. How do I stop that?
Thanks for any help from a newbie.

A:Word keeps converting email

Word doesn't "convert" without being asked to. Open Word. Hit the File-->Open menu. At the bottom, does it say "recover text from any file"? Make sure it says "All documents". If it doesn't say "recover...", then go to Tools-->Options, Save tab. Make sure Word isn't set to save as some other file type. Make sure it says Word (your version) document. If your DOC files are opening in WordPad INSTEAD of Word, then it's a file association problem. See: http://www.officearticles.com/misc/files_dont_open_when_double-clicked_in_microsoft_office.htm

hello there

i'm very new to the forum, so if the question is especially stupid, or i fail to follow etiquette, please 4give me.

i have a VERY large document originally created on a Mac in word a few years ago saved onto a couple of floppies. regrettably, the back up copies suitable for MS word on a PC/ibm platform have been lost/destroyed. the prospect of thus going through the hardcopy and re-keying this document is daunting, to say the least.

long way of asking: how can i convert the old files from the floppies into MS word on a PC? I find this particularly difficult to figure out as when i insert the floppies and try to view the files, i get a message saying that either the files can't be read, or that the floppies aren't formatted (for PC).

any suggestions/advice would be reatly appreciated.

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong thread. Secondly, this is probably a very idiotic question but here goes...

As a university student, i spend a lot of time looking at downloaded lecture presentations (ppxt files) and making revision notes from them on word! Usually I do this by going through each and every lecture slide and typing out what is said on them onto word documents. I do copy and paste pieces of text and pictures where applicable. Overall, it is a very time consuming process.

So my question is, is there a program or method i could use to essentially rip the text and pictures from all the presentation slides and put it on a word document? Almost like a pptx to doc conversion. I know you can make 'handout' versions of the presentations but this isn't really what i'm looking to do. I want to be able to edit the text and picture positions.

(p.s. using microsoft office word and microsoft office powerpoint 2007)

Again, sorry if it's in the wrong thread! I know how much this angers forum-ers :P

The only way I've ever been able to do it is to copy everything in the pub file and paste it into a Word document.

Another option is for the client to get the trial version of Publisher. Once the trial expires, it will continue to function as a viewer (can open pub files, cannot edit or create them). It costs $7.95 (for shipping). More information on ordering the CD here.

I am trying to convert pdf and word documents to jpegs so that they can be viewed on a portable dvd player. this may or may not be practical since the screen is only 9".
however if it works and all your trying to do is read a document and not have to carry around a $800+ computer this might work.
If there is a software available that I can try this for free to see if it actually works I would be happy to purchase it, all the software I have seen requires a credit card and I'm not to keen on giving out that information for a demo. If there is a totally free software, thats even better, since I'm really not confident this is going to work anyway.

I don't want to put my email address out in public, but if the moderator of this forum can receive your file and forward it to me I would be happy to try it for you and send it back in the doc format.

Hello,

I have a problem with a PDF catalog, I want to export the text to Word without the images, using Adobe Acrobat X and I also tried to do with free online tools as well as Nitro Pro 9, and I get the following problems in the .doc, .docx:

- Text in the new row starts with a lowercase letter and in the catalog it starts with a uppercase letter (hello instead of Hello)
- Some parts of the text get completely lowercase but instead they should be all uppercase (hello instead of HELLO)
- Some parts of the text have random casing issue for example like this: hElLo instead of Hello

I have also tried exporting it to .rtf, excel formats are a complete mess so I can't even consider using them.

Does anyone have any idea/solution on how I can properly convert the PDF catalog to Word with the text being exact regarding the capitalization of the letters and other formatting - I don't see any options regarding keeping the format in Nitro and Acrobat.

Fonts used in PDF catalog is Myriad Pro and Myriad Pro-Black which I have installed in the system.

I am open to other suggestions it doesn't have to be Word, just as long as I can export/convert all of the text from the Catalog while maintaining the uppercase/lowercase letters and Bold option in some parts.

Please help and thanks in advance!

So my question is this, is there a way to convert my Word 2003 doc to HTML, so I can then save it as a text document and submit it to Craig's List? If 3rd party software is required can anyone make any suggestions for me?

Note, I found a converter tool for Word 2000 on the Microsoft website which does exactly what I am looking for. The only problem is they do not have one for Word 2003.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you are wanting to save in html, when you go to 'save as', click on 'web page filtered'. I usually use front page for html documents for it is easier for myself. When you open the newly created html file you can simply view source. This is the long road but does work.

I have tried to convert a Word doc. that I receive daily into an Access 97 db. The document is in a table form, I convert text to table. For some reason it only reads 21 of the 22 columns. Each column does not always have information in it, but the first one in all the reports I tried do.

There is also a Comment line underneath the main record line, when I create the table it reads this as another record (I cannot think of a way to get it to delete the comment line as this is usually nothing that I need to track).

I try to paste into Access and get paste errors. I have tried to convert the Word doc to a form but have not been able to either. The reason I want to convert the document is the people who send it have a record number that they refer to, that right now I have to manually got to the original document. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would like to know how to convert old files .wpd/.wpl to Excel or Word. O/S is XP. These files have been saved to a floppy and the old computer has died so cannot access files to resave.
I've tried changing the extension to txt, doc. dbf, xls etc. and opening up in several different applications but receive only non-text information (squares etc.).
Can someone help with this dinosaur file?
Thank you.

I have a project that I worked on a while back that i'm trying to convert to JPEG. I'm unable to do a "print screen" because of the size that is needed and the quality. I downloaded the Universal Document Converter (http://www.print-driver.com/) which installs itself as a printer.

I'm supposed to open the doc, click print, change the print to UDC and then hit print ... at that point it converts it. Its a free trial verstion, very good quality conversion but it leaves a HUGE watermark.

It has to be in the programming to do that ... so my question is ... does anyone know where in the registry files (or whatever) I can go to take that part out.

I'm not buying it for one converstion ($69) and it seems that any free versions I've tried look like crap.

If anyone can help please reply

That feature, I have found, is not always agreeable. Save the file, close it. From your email, use insert attachment (usually a paper-clip icon), and browse to your file to insert it. See if you get better results that way.

I want to insert the scanned document as a picture, however both when I try to "Insert Picture from File" or just save the pdf to clipboard and then paste into the Word document, Word automatically tries to convert it to text.

I'm very grateful for any help offered - this is annoying me!

A:converting PDF file to Word Document formant

If its been scanned in as a PDF, then its just a "photo" of the page.

You need to use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert a scanned image to a document. Such software (Textbridge, Iris etc) usually comes with the scanner, but do not expext miricles with it.

Having the PC decide exactly what part of the scanned image is text, what is an image and correctly decode it to the relevant parts is complex and "consumer variety" OCR is usually less than perfect.

If the PDF is in electronic format (prior to being printed and scanned) software exists that will convert it directly to text (I use Solid Converter PDF) but this approach only works where the person creating the PDF has allowed such activities.

Old computer has Word and Excel 97 the new computer had 2003 versions...will they open and be readable/editable on the new computer?

Is there something special I need to do to ensure that I can use them on new computer, or is it hopeless?

A:Solved: Converting old Word Docs 97 to 2003

Not a problem. Microsoft exerts a lot of effort to make sure their newer applications are backwards compatible with files saved in older versions. So you should be safe

However, if you have any custom macros, they might not port as well. Sounds like that probably isn't the case, however.

Hi There

Does anyone know how to convert a merge field (for multiple letters) into a table.

I have a list of assets and values saved in an excel workbook seperated by a | and want to convert the merge field into a table once all records have been merged. Its impossible to split the cell in excel (truth be told theres more than one list and without knowing how many assets there are in each cell I will end up overwriting data and the excel file is already big enough)

For someone reason it converts the merge field into just one cell of a table.

I tried this on a just plain text (same data) and it works fine.

If anyone can thing of a way to do it hopefully as part of a mailmerge before/after event it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

WordPerfect and Works are 2 completely different animals -- although last time I looked, Works word processor files did have "wps" extensions. Which program are you actually using?

(Whichever, you should be able to go File > Save As, then set an option for file type [to save as] -- if there's an RTF option, Word should handle the output ... although you may lose some features if your original file is, err, "elaborate")

I have several PCs now with Windows 10, a laptop, my main desktop and an older desktop. I've been using an MSA with the laptop since it had Windows 8.1 on it. I'm wondering, in some detail, what exactly changes on my desktop, in terms of files, folders, profile, if I switch from a local account to an MSA? In general, does it merge the existing MSA that was started on the laptop into the local account on the desktop? Or does it set the old local profile aside and add the MSA profile? Does it create a new user profile folder?

I'm guessing it must merge the profiles, otherwise settings and preferences from your local account would be lost. If that's true, the MSA profile now has some new preferences and settings added to it picked up from the desktop. When I log into the laptop now, will those new preferences and settings follow and be added to the laptop's profile?

When and if you convert back to a local account from an MSA, what happens? if the profiles were merged, does it separate them again somehow? Or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Any other info or clarification is appreciated! Thanks!

I could not figure out how to convert all the macros and other files to use in Microsoft Office. Is there any way to do this? I have problems with WordPerfect and would love to be able to get rid of it and use just Microsoft Office.

Thanks for any much needed help!

I don't know if I'm just being stupid but I don't have Microsoft Word, only Microsoft Office which is less advanced and simple.

I'm using images I have print-screened to insert into a document and I can't do this if they aren't JPEGs... (as far as I know!)

I can't figure out how to convert an image to a JPEG using paint or Microsoft Office... can anyone help please?

Thankyou.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone would know a formula or a way I could covert total minutes accumalated into total hour and minutes ?

For example I have 290 minutes; I would like to convert that into 4:50.

I have tried multiple ways but can't seem to come up with an accurate formula ???

I am running Microsoft Access 2000

If anyone could please help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This link should explain it for you. There are a couple of other working-with-time links at the bottom of the article if not.
