ghost mouse? constantly clicking sounds as if mouse is in use, but its not!

Q: ghost mouse? constantly clicking sounds as if mouse is in use, but its not!

here's a crazy one, last night i noticed all night long that i could hear my computer "clicking", it sounds just like when the mouse is manually clicked on an icon or link to open it. it makes the sound about every 15 seconds and has not stopped. nothing seems to be open, and last night it made the sound when all programs were closed and the computer screen saver came on, right now it is clicking away while i am typing to you on a different computer....

i can't wait to hear from you about this one! sounds like a ghost is running my mouse!

Hey, I've been noticing at random times I will hear the the mouse-click sound from my speakers. I've done a full McAfee Security scan and it doesn't look like I have any viruses or spyware.

Does anyone know about this problem or how to fix it?

These aren't frequent but I do hear them from time to time. I did a MalwareBytes scan a couple weeks ago and no problem showed up then.

A:Random mouse clicking sounds from speakers

Is this problem on a certain page/site?

I use Juno some times and it is always clicking, but they are ads that have been blocked.

Hi I am new here.

I am running Win XP Home SP2 and recently my computer has been making random background noises. Its like an IE7 mouse click. Sometimes it plays ads in the background and sometimes for long periods of time. I have had no other programs open that have advertisements built into at the time. I have AVG Free and it has decteted several trojans. So I stumped upto this point.

here is my HJT Log.

Mind you I did not have IE7 running at the time but HJT picked it up. Not sure... Anyways

The other day my computer started constantly right clicking by it's self, when i left click it also right clicks, and the actual right click does nothing. I've been trying to get into safe mode or recover to a previous restore point but mashing esc, f8 or bleep+f8 don't do anything... Just boos as normal... I also tried reinstalling the driver, no change.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem, or how I can access the advanced restore/boot options?
I'm using windows 8 on an Acer Aspire 4810t.

A:Constantly right clicking mouse problem and can't access safe mode =(

I'd try booting from a repair drive.  On a working Windows 8.1 system that's current with Windows updates, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Recovery applet and click the option to create a repair drive on a flash drive.  Once created boot from it on your system and do a repair.
Good luck.

My problem is that occasionally, when I click or scroll my mouse, my computer acts as though the "CTRL" button is being held down. This problem will occur for a few minutes, then it will go back to normal, then become a problem again. So what happens is all of a sudden I will be scrolling my mouse all the font on the screen will increase or decrease or it will scroll forward and backwards between previously viewed webpages. Also when this is happening, my typing will be messed up as well. If I were to hit the "p," the print menue would pop up. It will also type in all caps and if I try to type a "7" for example, it will come up as an "&." And when I click the mouse in a paragraph of text online, it will just highlight the entire paragraph of text. I don't know if this will help but it usually happens right after the top bar of my web browser (the one with the maximize, minimize, and close window button) goes light grey. Normally, when you are at a web page, this is a dark grey and if you get a pop up, the background window will go to a light grey color. So this problem usually happens when my window acts as though there was a pop up, but their really wasn't. I had this problem a couple weeks ago and I had installed a pop up blocker a couple days before that. I uninstalled this blocker and my computer had been fine for the last couple of weeks. Now all of a sudden it is doing it again. I have not downloaded any pop up block... Read more

A:Mouse Wheel and Clicking the Mouse makes my screen go wacky!

Keyboards are very cheap, try a new one and save yourself lots of grief. Chances are the matrix circuit has some foreign goop on it that's conducting just well enough to make certain keys seem to be pushed, especially under varying humidity conditions.

The mouse is only doing what mice do when the certain keys are depressed so it's probably not at fault.

You could try blowing the keyboard out with compressed air but I wouldn't waste too much time on such a low dollar item.

Good luck.

I have an HP Windows 7 computer that has been working fine until I attempted to install Chrome Browser.  Sometime afterward I noticed that my mouse curser would jump around erratically at times and if I try to left click on something, it doesn't work at all and I might have to wait 30 to 120 seconds for the mouse click to work again.  I de-installed Chrome, but the problem continues.  My Windows updates are all up to date, with the exception of the optional updates.  (I rarely install them because I never can figure out if they're necessary, so being safe rather than guess, I don't install optional updates).  This cursor problem has been going on for a few weeks and occasionally my keyboard doesn't seem to print out letters as typed.  There seems to be a lag at times, although that's not often.  Until the Chrome install, this computer has been perfect.  Any assist will be appreciated.

I had an issue with this before when fixing a brothers computer which was badly infested with viruses. It took a couple days to get everything out. I don't just use the software I go into regedit and All the individual folders to remove the viruses. But I dont know if you have viruses that may slow down your computer But after I removed all His viruses well It stoped. His mouse jumped around like crazy would move to the side and not let you move it back for a while. But Idk for your situation.

All clicks are inactive. right clicking, left clicking and even when you leave the mouse over the start button or any folder for a description it doesn't work.

I currently am running Windows XP Home Edition. I have to run in system recovery mode (safemode but you are still running the OS). It is very hard to because nothing runs on startup in recovery mode so I am very limited because my spyware protection does not work.

If you can help me please do.

Thank you!

A:Mouse clicking doesn't work only moviong around the mouse

You have told us absolutely nothing about your system so all I can answer with is do XP Repair:
If you do not have a Windows XP cd, then you will need to buy one. Or use system restore disk to wipe out drive and return to clean and new as once was....those are the only options for what you have told us or if you have a ps2 mouse try a usb mouse, but I still think your system must be totally corrupted and need the XP repair bare minimum.

Since the day before yesterday, I have been having a problem where my mouse double-clicks when I single-click. This happens sometimes when I open a program (I ended up opening a Firefox window with a session restore that I wanted as well as a second blank window. I didn't minimize the session restore one, so when I clicked the X on the blank window it closed both and I lost the session restore links since it closed both windows). When I right click to open a link in another tab, it sometimes opens the site in two tabs. When I click on the google window or the address window, all of the text is highlighted for replacement as if I clicked on the text twice.

I've only noticed this in XP, although I have only done a little work in Word over the last couple days.

I've looked in google and found a couple links that say it is a hardware related program (the mouse is a Logitech MX110 and I can't find it listed at their site for a driver). That is possible, but it has been very sudden AND it seemed to start after XP's latest auto-update (I really should update my OS to one of the professional ones because I've been complaining for years about XP Home's auto-update and reboot).

Is it possible that the latest XP update could have done something to the mouse driver? I should add that I think I'm still using the old Intelipoint driver with the Logitech mouse because I heard that the Logitech drivers were buggy.

Should I try updating the Intellip... Read more

A:mouse double-clicking when I single-click (left and right clicking)

It is likely a problem with the mouse itself. I have experienced the same issue and there are numerous reports of this problem ... and I include a link to one of them for your interest and amusement:

The problematic behaviour may come and go: In my own case, my problematic Logitech mouse has been behaving itself recently. I have not been able to find any reason for the variation in its behaviour from time to time. When it plays up, I simply resort to using another mouse for awhile.

Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

I am not sure how to explain this, but I will do my best: computer boots fine, and everything comes up as usual. However, when I click an icon, say for internet explorer, it will open about 65 IE windows. It will keep trying to open more windows until I break the internet connection. It takes a while, but I am able to clear all those windows out. If I try to click another icon, it will open/close rapidly but I can close it out. If I click on the "start" menu to turn off the computer, it will open/close rapidly and go into sleep mode. Ctrl+Alt+delete does not bring up the task menu thing (forgot what it is called).

If I am patient, it will stop and I am able to get onto the internet or any other application. The cycle is repeated if I turn the computer off and back on later.

I have no idea where to start. Thinking it was simply the mouse, I went out and purchased another - no change. Thinking it could be a virus, I scanned with Windows Onecare - no change.

That about sums it all up. Any suggestions?

A:mouse keeps clicking

Well, I would say that if we rule out a virus cause, your system seems to have a lot of corrupted files. Did you recently remove a virus? Did you run a registry cleaner (destroyer to be exact... )?You will probably need to repair your Windows. You'll need your XP CD for that. If a repair is not enough, perhaps a reformat. You could always try a sfc /scannow.You could also post a HJT log in the malware removal section of the forum to make sure you don't have any malware causing these symptoms.

Hi there, first time poster with an issue I can't seem to figure out.

My mouse (Razr Naga) has been great for me for years, hasn't given me any problems at all. A few weeks ago I noticed it would start clicking itself at regular intervals (every few seconds). I've run multiple virus scans, reinstalled all the software for it, spent hours on google trying to find answers but none that seem to work for me.

It went from a minor annoyance to a serious annoyance, I now have to make sure I'm not scrolled over anything at all times or else my mouse might click on it, I can't organize my folders without it opening them all at once, or moving them into each other without me even clicking.

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

A:mouse clicking on it's own

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious, but perhaps your mouse is malfunctioning. Have you tried a different mouse to verify that it's not the mouse itself? That's where I'd start. If other mice run fine, then I'd suspect the device itself. If other mice have the same issues, then you might have an issue with the driver for the mouse.

Hello, i have a problem with my mouse.

The model is Urage evo by Hama

The mouse clicks multiple times when i click once, it doesnt always happen but it happens very often.
Its a new mouse, i think it may be a driver problem because plugging in another mouse sometimes makes that mouse work well and sometimes the blugged in mouse also doubleclicks.
Investigating further i have found that in my device manager i have 3 HID compatible mouse drivers, deleting or turning of two of them doesnt afect the mouse in anny ways the mouse moves and still doubleclicks but when i turn of the third driver the mouse stops mooving which means only 1 of those 3 is required for my mouse to work.

THe drivers seem to reinstall itself upon restart or computer wakeup, not always both of the aditional drivers but always atleast one.

I have tried uninstalling the drivers in the maintenance mode but theres no diference comapred to normaly run windows. After i remoove both extra drivers mouse still double- tripple-quadruple clicks and when i click "search for hardware changes it always reinstals 1 HId compatible mouse despite there already being one.

HI I have op. system windows 8.1 and a sony Envy laptop. When I right click on the mouse to copy or send to etc, it has the hourglass come up and then it just goes back to the regular desktop. I have removed the drivers by going to device manager and then mouse and other pointing devices and then to remove the drivers. I manually turn off the pc and then start it hoping that the drivers missing will be installed but they don't. Also have had suggestion that the blue tooth is confused and it doesn't know what to do with the right click so it takes over.
I don't know how to disable the blue tooth temporarily and not sure if it is a good thing to do.
Hopefully someone out there has a similar problem and can help with this issue.

For the past couple of months, my Toshiba Satellite laptop has had a very strange and annoying problem. It seems to be in the mouse/HID driver subsystem. It is using XP MCE with SP3, current on the updates.

I use this laptop both at home and in the office, and have separate mice in each place. It worked fine for over three years. This past summer, the little home mouse failed, so I bought another one at Staples. It turned out to be horrible (no detent on the wheel), so I bought yet another one, an Agama, at a different store. It works a little better... but somewhere around that time, the system went gaga.

When I use the mouse now, either home or office (so it's not a bad mouse), it sometimes freezes up, typically for around 3 seconds, but not precisely. During that time the Synaptics touchpad still works, not that I ever like to use it. That's annoying. Worse, the mouse often acts as if I had just pressed one of the three buttons. It might be any of them, though the right is most common, so the context menu just pops up now and then, but it also can left-click on a button when I don't want it to, or open the middle-button scroller. One other detail is that when I move and unpack it and come out of standby with the different mouse attached, it takes longer than it used to to find the new mouse. Sometimes around a minute. BTW the office mouse shares a port with a keyboard via a PS/2 adapter, but that has worked fine for years.

The internal keyboard ... Read more

On my ASUS K8V-MX motherboard, I have recently been finding every time I completely cut the power to my PC I had to reset all the bios settings. Decided the battery was run down, so replaced it, but upon test the battery (4 years old or so), tested fine. Since then I have again cut power twice, once to upgrade memory and once to try to solve a printer-not-printing problem by resetting the parallel port type.

Every time, I still have to reset the bios, even with the new battery - why?

Now another odd thing developed since the last refresh of the bios, and/or installation of a new USB printer, my optical mouse now stays on even when the PC is switched off but still connected to the mains (the mouse is asleep, the LED goes dim, but not off).

Since new, I took a careful note of the bios settings, I doubt if anything is set differently now to what it should be, and this is merely giving me the twitches (a dim, eerie light at night from the mouse that is). Anyone have any ideas? Is the motherboard failing slowly?

A:Eerie... mouse is a ghost

Did ya ever see the movie 'The Ring'?, anyway, When my bios went missing everytime I shut it down a few years ago, thats what it was. all I know to do with a failing motherboard is to replace it, im sure someone with more expertise will be around with more insight into this, but its sounds the same to me. as far as your cordless mouse, them thar critters have batteries in them dont forget....or my evil little child theory.

Hi Folks,

Just thought I'd reort on a possible fix for reported issues where you can hear sounds like your mouse movement and/or HHD thrashing sounds coming in through your speakers/headphones.

WARNING!: This might not work for you!

I've had this issue ever since I put together this PC and for over a year have never resolved it properly.

The good news is that it now seems to be fixed.

Here is what happen:

I have two hard drives and two DVD burners. One of the DVD burners was connected to the MB using the old IDE, the rest were SATA connections.

Recently, I installed an Auzentech sound card 7.1 XI-Forte PCI-E (bloody amazing card!) much to my surprise I noticed my mouse movement sounds had become worse! It was bearable before but down-right annoying now.

On a hunch I swapped my IDE DVD burner to a SATA drive...and voila! Noise gone.

The reason I suspect is because of the layout of the MB. The IDE slot is righ next to where the Audio Front panel connected to the MB. Now the front panel Audio connects to the card.

Now I know it sounds strange and not quite logical but a combination of the IDE ribbon running past the SATA cables and the front panel audio connection and an independant sound card (not the onboard sound) I think is causing cross electrical interference.

I can still hear the mouse movement noise but it's incredibly faint and Drive noises completely gone!

I'm happy! at last!

Now, since I took the opportunity to thoroughly clean the innards f... Read more

Whenever i click once on my usb mouse, it automatically clicks twice. i just try to select a file, it double clicks on it and the file gets opened.
same thing happens with the songs and other programs.
and this doesnt happen consistently.sometimes it clicks ok and sometimes it acts weird.i have already checked the speed setting for double clicking in control panel and also checked the drivers.everything seems to be ok but still the problem persists.i have also tried with other usb ports in my pc but all in vain.
i have checked the same mouse with other pc and it works fine.
is it the problem with BIOS? can updating the BIOS solve the problem??

its really irritating.
thanks in advance.

What's the model of the mouse? Is it new? (if not, maybe try cleaning it). Could the cable be damaged? Can you try using a different mouse on your PC? (maybe you can simply swap them out ). Any other kind of hardware problems?

I wouldn't recommend updating the BIOS. If a different mouse works fine on your PC, yours is probably just faulty and you'll need to replace it.

Hello, recently my mouse has been acting very strangely. At first, it seemed like it was just clicking on its own, as menus would just open randomly on the desktop. I then attempted restarting the computer several times while unplugging the mouse and also uninstalling the mouse drivers, but neither worked. I have found that the problem only occurs when I right click, then the mouse goes haywire. I tried using the mouse on another computer and the same problem occurred so I believe it is a problem with the mouse. Also, whenever I tried plugging in a different mouse, a message saying "USB device not recognized" popped up. Is this just a sign of my mouse dying or is it some other problem? Any help is appreciated.

A:Mouse Clicking Problems

If the mouse doesn't work with two different computers I would have to believe there is a problem with the mouse.
If you are going to change out a mouse, you should do this with the computer off.  After it is installed, then turn on the computer.

This is a minor problem, but irritating. Sometimes when i click on an icon or program, it will not do anything. Is it my mouse-have wireless-,but haven't had any problems before this.

A:mouse clicking sometimes won't open

One thing I would recommend doing would be to try your mouse on a different computer. If it does the same thing, you may need a new mouse. At the same time, you might want to try using a known good mouse on the computer that seems to be messing up. Doing a cross-check like this might lead to some answers.

Hi, I'm not sure where to post this issue here but I have a problem with some lagging on my mouse clicking. I use a tablet to draw, and I have a huge issue with this prolonged lag when I click and try to drag my pen. If held for long enough the left click acts as a right click, and I think that is what is leading to the lag on every click. It's really not working well for drawing when I drag the pen and get choppy lines from this.

I've tried speeding up the pointer speed, I've also turned on the enhance pointer precision (which, for some reason, unchecks itself every time I click OK), and I've gone through every setting I can find to no avail. How do I turn off this lag? I don't want my left click to perform a right click if it's held down (which it does for any mouse I use or for the finger pad as well), if I could turn that off I think the lag might go away.

Thanks for any help you can give!

A:Mouse clicking trouble

If you can’t change it through Wacoms settings it can be turned off in "Pen and input Devices" in Control Panel.

Otherwise, maybe reinstall your drivers

EDIT:Moved to Virus,Trojan and Malware Removal Logs~~boopmeHi, firstly I would like to say that this really is a frustrating and puzzling problem. I am myself a computer technician (for only a couple years however) and have been completely stumped by this problem. The biggest problem trying to diagnose this problem is that it is hard to describe and occurs at random times. So, my mouse doesn't "click" sometimes. What happens it that it is almost like the mouse clicks right through the window that is open and clicks on the desktop. What makes this even more strange is that even though it won't click on the open window, mouse over works on the desktop. Sometimes i can't even click on the taskbar (no mouseover) but all clicking on the desktop works. If a window is open and focused (say Firefox for ex), I can try to click on the web page, but it is as if the window wasn't even open and i clicked on the desktop because the window changes to unfocused. And the worst part is that this only happens sometimes. I can however just click profusely on a link on a webpage and eventually it does focus on the window and start to work again.Basically it is like it goes into a mode where the only thing i can click on is my desktop and every other window is just a ghost. As well, sometimes a quick left click will bring up the scroll button. (like a middle mouse click). I can't drag icons on my desktop.Clicking on links on webpages will open them in a new tab. (That i... Read more

I just got a new Microsoft Wheel Mouse for my Windows 98 system. Installed the IntelliPoint software for it, and it seemed to work fine. However, every so often when I click on something, it jumps up or down the page and clicks on another link instead. What in the world is going on? How do I fix this? Thanks.

A:Mouse clicking jumps

Start up the program that it is doing this in. (in your case Internet Explorer) Minimize this and go to Start > Settings> Control Panel > Mouse. Click the Wheel tab and click troubleshooter. Read the steps they have and finish the process. Hope this helps!

Hey guys, I've gotta wireless mouse that does not left-click. Just doesn't left-click. I can spam the left-click and it does probably 1/20 clicks. I'm pretty sure it's not the physical left-click on the mouse, it is probably something else getting it's signal. The room It's in has a bunch of wireless devices that could be interfering. 1. Router (I set it to channel 7) 2. Phone (Don't know channel) 3. TV Remote (...) 4. Xbox 360 wireless controller(s) 5. Wii 6. Wii remote and that's all the wireless devices in this room. It happens when the Xbox 360 and the Wii is off, It happened before so I changed the channel of my router from 1 to 7, I'm not sure if a TV remote can interfere, and it possibly could be the phone because I had a hard time getting my wi-fi connection off my Wii. (When the router and the Wii are in the same room.)

My mouse is a GE Wireless Optical Mouse 97990 Rev 4.

I have also replaced the batteries, and re-linked the mouse. (The obvious.)

Ok so, a few days ago i noticed my mouse would automatically click, i noticed in a gun game first cause my gun would just go off constantly. So i thought it was my mouse which was old. So i got a new logitech LX-8, and it was working ok, then the autoclicking randomly started again in WoW. So i downloaded the drivers and it didnt stop it. I thought maybe switch usb ports, but it didnt. I ran avg antivirus after updating and it found nothing. It happens in game and out of game. Like right now its hard to type this cause its clicking. I think its some sort of virus or malicious thing. Im not sure what to do, its the most annoying thing ive ever run into. IM running vista 64 bit btw.

I've had the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse for about 6 months now without any problems. Today, when I got up I got on my computer to check some stuff, I noticed that every once in a while the mouse would click and hold by itself without me pushing any buttons. It was really annoying when I tried to play Battlefield 2 online. I would end up shooting my teammates or bombing my own base. Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, please help.

A:Mouse Clicking & Holding By Itself

i dunno. sounds like your mouse is just messed up. if there is software for the mouse try uninstalling it then reinstalling. if not then i recommend getting a new mouse.

I have an HP 6730b notebook and I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit system.

About 6 months ago, my dog threw up on my keyboard and touchpad, completely ruining the keyboard and I replaced it myself. It worked with no problem. About a month after that, the left click of my touchpad stopped working and a month or so after that, I started having the following problem: At random, the mouse will just start clicking on anything the cursor goes over and this can last up to 5 minutes and then it will just stop. It isn't just the touchpad because I disactivated it and tried using a USB mouse, same problem. I updated all of my drivers in regards to the mouse and I eventually uninstalled the driver to the mouse and rebooted my computer to reinstall it, still no change. The problem can happen anytime during the day any number of times or I could go a day with no problems at all; it occurs with no rhyme or reason. This is what leads me to believe that it must be a virus? I've ran Spybot S&D, AVG, and Malwarebytes and any viruses they found still did not fix the problem. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be?

Thanks to anyone in advance,

A:Need Mouse Clicking Simulator

I assume that you want it to simulate a click no matter where the mouse is? That kind of thing would almost have to run as a system service to detect every mouse click before other programs do.

I whipped up a quick VB app to see if this is the behavior you're talking about. Download it at
Run that and then click the mouse down on the form, you'll see the result. I assume this is what you want, only for all of Windows. That might be a lot harder. But I'll keep looking into it.

This is probably one of those stupid questions! can a mouse be serviced?
I have been using my wireless mouse for a couple of years without problems, lately it has been double clicking on ever increasing occasions.
For example if I close an email in outlook it closes the mail and also closes outlook which obviously is right underneath.
When I delete an email it often deletes the one above it, I often find emails in my deleted folder that I have not seen.
It is not only in outlook, if I play free cell etc it regularly deals twice at once.
I have slowed it down from its usual position but to no avail.
Any ideas??

A:Double clicking mouse

Since you have been using it for years, all that comes to mind is that the mouse is going bad. I had a wired optical not too long ago that started to double click, then it did it some more... then eventually it double clicked like crazy and it was absolute anguish to try to drag something. My advice is to just get a new mouse, or try a mouse that you know has no problems on that comp and see if the problem persists. Although, i have never heard of a mouse problem like that if it weren't the mouse itself.. Hope this helped!

On the startup my mouse isn't able to click. I resolve the problem to some extent by pressing ctr+alt+delete, then I'm able to use the mouse for most purposes except some programs like firefox and audiofire console of wich the mouse still wont respond to clicking in. The strange thing is that I can see a reacton when moving the mouse over the buttons, but I cannot click them. The Audiofire Console is the volume control for my sound card and thus very important.
I'm Using logitech mx700 mouse, but it's probably not a hardware problem as I've tried with other mice without any difference.

I have been fighting this problem for a couple of weeks.

I have a Compaq Laptop and the USB mouse will click a random amount of times when the mouse button is pushed. While dragging and object it will click multiple times.

It originally started on my wifes machine with a PS2 mouse running through a KVM, then it started on my machine.

When I use the mouse pad it does not happen. I ran Norton, FProt, Ad-Aware, Stinger, ePest Patrol, and others. Every program except virus scanners found something different. I removed everything they found, but no help. I replaced the mouse driver with various versions, still no help.

I replaced the mouclass.sys file with an older version, mouhid.sys with an older version and still nothing.

Please take a look at my hijackthis log and let me know what to do next.

This behavior does NOT take place when I am on the internet. I use Firefox.

I have a HP laptop running XP. It has performed fabulous for 2 yrs, until this. I have run numerous times - Spyware Dr, Lavasoft Adaware, AVG Antivirus. AVG Rookkit detector, PC Optimize & Registry Mechanic. I have updated the touchpad driver, installed all Microsoft updates & HP updates. This behavior happens no matter which HD I am accessing - I have 2 100 GB HD in the PC & an external 500 GB HD.

Please help. I desperately do not want to wipe my whole OS & start over if at all possible. Thanks in advance for any input i get on this problem. geekynana in CA

Recently I've been using a vista ultimate x64 os machine for some gaming, however I'm having strange behavior when I need to right click.
Things go pretty smoothly otherwise, but if I right click and do not follow up with another left mouse button click, then the cursor disappears and things go haywire, erratic, constant movement in seemingly random directions until I right click again a few times. In addition to this, the computer starts accepting ghost imputs from the keyboard, such as shift and spacebar, also seemingly at random. I then discovered that the strange behavior is not limited to games, but that if I right click on the desktop very similar behavior ensues. I just tried that again before writing this post and the cursor disappeared, various icons were highlighted on my desktop, then a confirmation box came up asking me if I really did want to send an msn shortcut to the recycle bin. All sorts of weird stuff, and it's starting to get to me.

I do have AVG antivirus software, and have been scanning periodically, and I've tried to keep my drivers up to date. The only notable thing that I can think of is that there's an unknown device in device manager, however I've been unable to discover what device it actually is, nor locate a driver for it. And yes, I've tried switching from the mouse port to just usb ports, and tried three different mouses, all laser, exact same behaviour with all of them.

Any advice on how I may be able to repair this problem or simp... Read more

A:Odd mouse behavior when right clicking

Try this first: go into your mouse setting by clicking Start, click Control Panel, click Classic View, click Mouse.

When the mouse properties window opens, make sure that under the ?Right button? heading, this shows up in the drop-down: Right-click (default). If there is something else in that drop-down, that might be what?s causing the problem. If it?s already set to Right-click (default), then we have another problem and can address that.

I have recently obtained a virus on my computer that causes my mouse to effectively right click uncontrollably. When I run my Symantec Endpoint protection virus scan, it deletes a "tracking cookies" file every time, and this temporarily fixes the problem, however the file name and original location are unavailable, and eventually the clicking starts again.

Please see my DDS and GMER logs and let me know if you're able to help me out.

This is by far the weirdest problem I've encountered on my computer.

(this problem started first thing today)

Every few minutes when I either surf online or use a Microsoft office software, my mouse clicking is completely unresponsive when trying to click anywhere on the taskbar (including start) or anywhere on the software's toolbar. It's driving me nuts.

For example, if I'm surfing the web on Firefox, there comes a moment where I want to change windows in the taskbar, and it's unresponsive. Even if I place the mouse on top of a window it doesn't glow (like it use to when you hover over something). Then when I try navigating on my web window, all the tool bars (including the tabs) doesn't respond when clicked.

The interesting part is that everything that is on the window at that moment still respond with mouse movements (clicking on a link, scrolling a page).

At first I thought explorer.exe froze, but all the keyboard commands still work, so that's how I switched between windows at those moments.

What's more interesting is that sometimes when I go to a click frenzy and hope it works again, the current window also becomes unresponsive to mouse clicks, and I can only scroll the page using the mouse wheel. .

The only way I made my mouse to work again is pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del and open up task manager. By then everything works again for a while until it happens again.

First I thought it was my mouse that didn't work, but it's movements are fine and it's only... Read more

A:Unresponsive mouse clicking

Hi timtimpei,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

First, replace the batteries in the mouse to rule that out as a possibility - when low (or if somehow not inserted properly), they can cause this type of problem.

Next, try a different USB port on the computer to see if that makes any difference.

Do you have another mouse and/or another computer (or one you can borrow for a few moments)? Try swapping the mice and see if the problem remains on the computer (suggesting a problem with the computer if a different mouse that works fine on another computer has the same problem here) or moves to the other computer (suggesting it is a problem with the mouse - especially if the other mouse works fine on the original computer). This will be immensely useful to know.

Is the problem with both right and left clicking as well as scrolling or only some parts - if so, which parts work and which don't?

I believe the mouse came with software. But let's re-install the latest version to make sure some Vista update didn't require the more recent software. You can download it here: Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Hardware - Download Software. Reboot after installing and see if that helped.

If that doesn't work, try a clean boot If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit causing the problem. Follow the procedures in the article. Once found, delete, remove, deactivate, or uninstall it. Once done be sure to reset Vis... Read more

This POS is a custom built PC running XP Pro with sp2. It works fine in VGA or safe mode. When you boot normally, it will load everything but when you click on anything with the mouse, it freezes and reboots. Read somewhere on here that it was the RAM. Bought new and that didnt correct it. I can go anywhere with it in VGA mode. Any ideas?

A:PC reboots after first clicking mouse

Can you please provide us with your system's complete specifications?

Try to isolate the issue first, as you say it happens if you 'click' mouse button, first logical thing would be try to boot without the mouse, and see whether system remains stable, if it is, you get your suspect. If it doesn't then you'll need to do bit more work, first thing try would be to attach mouse to another usb port (if it is a usb mouse).

Is there any reason why my laptop's pointer sometimes just click and scrolls on its own? Most of the time it doesnt, but sometimes, if my pointer is on a button (close, submit, etc), it automatically clicks it. i am sure that there is nothing pressing the left mouse buttons (the built in ones and the actual mouse i sometimes use) when it happens, so what is going on? the only things in the mouse setting that i have changed is the speed of the pointer, not the double-click speed or anything else.

Here is a pretty vague one for you guys. Yesterday my laptop started acting up. If I am in my web browser I can only click on one link. Once the new page comes up, my mouse will not click on any links. However, if I click on my taskbar to another program and then back to my browser it works for another click, then the same problem. This problem persists with both my external mouse and my track pad. I have run a virus scan, and it found nothing. Nevertheless, I'm still thinking it could be a virus. I've also considered that it could be bad code on one of the sites, but I've tried different sites and I get the problem consistently.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the very same problem with my desktop PC running xp64-bit. Hello all.
From two days I have strange problem with USB mouse. Here is the story:
It seems that from time to time clicking LMB doesn't work and RMB doesn't work either or work incorrectly.
I happens with some of application not all. For example I don't have problem with Firefox at all, but I do have with TeamSpeak. When I start TS I am not able to click on any menu it is just not working. Sometimes when this happens I am even not able to click on shortcuts on my desktop, however if I press ctrl+alt+del, without launching task manager, everything reverts back for a short moment.
What I did and what I have discovered:
1. If I reboot my laptop without mouse connected to USB it works perfectly with touchpad, but as soon as I connect mouse both touchpad and mouse have a problem.
2. Reboot without mouse connected, took 2nd mouse and everything was ok. But when I connected 1st mouse then I got again this problem even if I reverted back to 2nd mouse without rebooting.
3. I disable themes services.
4. In msconfig in reboot I manualy choose how many CPU should be run on.
5. I did SFC test and it says everything was ok.
6. I check system with Spybot Search&Destroy = clean.
7. Google, gooogle, gooooogle and don't know what else I can do.

Step 3 to 5 was just googled that they might help, but it didn't work for me.
Any further help is appreciated.

A:Odd mouse clicking problem

if you tried a different mouse and it was ok, then it sounds like the issue is with the mouse itself not the computer
maybe the mouse needs a clean
maybe something along these lines is what you need to concentrate on. (you could search youtube too also search for your model of mouse)

It's very annoying. Now I did a Google search to see if I could find a solution to this problem. According to what I found I need to buy a new mouse, I really hope that's not the case at all. I have a limited amount of money. Now let me ask, how can I stop my mouse from double-clicking by itself? This really is frustrating. Is there a way to do it without having to buy a new mouse?

Hi! I usually post over in the malware/viruses section, but I don't ...think this is virus/malware related? That is, my mouse has recently (within the past week or so) decided that it's going to start double-clicking, which is something of an irritation when dragging/dropping things, or when playing video games of any kind, mostly. I don't think this is malware/virus related, since I've run my malwarebytes/MSE scans and found nothing; I've even run malwarebyte's anti-rootkit to see if it was just something strange going on there, and found nothing, too.

My mouse is a few - about six? - months old, and it doesn't really have any issues aside from this, nor have I had any problems with it before now. It's an E-blue Cobra mouse, and googling doesn't seem to be terribly helpful as far as "Go ___ for new/updated drivers!", so I'm sort of stuck on that front, too.

Anyone have any suggestions/fixes they know of that might help?

A:Double-clicking mouse

Have you check in the control pane. Under folder options? Once you click on this and the window opens. Look for ( Click Items as follows) Here it will give you the option to single click on Items or double click. You should be able to change your settings there.

I recently (January) got an old Dell Latitude laptop computer running XP Service Pack 3 x86 NTFS. The mouse acts a bit strangely. For some targets the mouse acts as if it had been left-clicked when the cursor just pauses over the target. For instance, if the cursor points to one of the tabs at the bottom to bring the object back to the top, it will usually pop up in a second or so, but then it will disappear again in another second or so if the cursor is still there. When trying to right-click a link to open a page in a new tab, it will often open the new page in the new tab as well as changing the old tab to the new page. Since this machine has very low RAM, any change in the display can be time consuming.

I could not find anything in the Control Panel that would restore more normal mouse function. I did check in folder options, and did find that ``double-click to open'' was checked, as it normally is.

I was hoping that someone could help me. I have Norton Ghost 2003. I made a boot disk that works on one of my computers but does not have a mouse on the new one with Sata drives (not in raid formation). I did a Google search and found a suggestion to make a start up disk that lets you use a mouse and then add ghost.exe. I then searched for such a disk and downloaded a few that sounded promising but none of them came with mouse capabilities. (I am sure that they actually do but that I just don't know how to set it up).
Please can someone tell me how to set up such a disk or offer any other suggestion?

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz 31 ?C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

Optical Drives
Optiarc DVD RW AD-5280S ATA Device
AMD High Definition Audio Device (thnx layback bear)

When i first built it i was getting mouse lag of a split second and started getting the blue screen of death, so i then took my pc back to the shop in which i got the parts and they fixed it by replacing my ram i think.

But even though they looked at it and re-installed windows im still getting mouse lag. It's not a HUGE problem when doing simple tasks like browsing the web ect.. but when im trying to play games like counter strike its just frustrating to play and trying to be accurate is a task in a half.

Just to be clear, what i mean by mouse lag is a tiny delay from me moving the mouse and it displaying which is a fraction of a second but it's very noticeable.

Ive tried using various mouses and tweaking the mouse settings in the controll panel and downloading the drivers that i know of but no matter what i do, there is always a slight lag of the mouse. I'm unsure if it's a hardware problem or software but i cant seem to figure... Read more

I've just made a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on a desktop PC. I'm having problems with mouse clicks within specific areas of Windows. It generally works in desktop environment and in tiles menu but when I go, for instance, to PC setting, I'm able to highlight an option but can't click on it (works with keyboard navigation, though). I don't think it is a mouse problem, as I tried three different ones and the problem occurs in the same sections.

It also happens in some desktop appliactions such as Autodesk Maya, it basically stops me from clicking anything in this programme.

Another lead is that I can do those clicks with my Wacom (Intuos 5) tablet pen. I thought it may be the tablet driver and that it changed input method but the problem occurred before I even plugged or installed the tablet, so I don't think that is an option either.

I'm also using Win 8.1 on a tablet but this never happened.

Thanks in advance!

PS. The problem I described is permanent but sometimes other software such as Word or Chrome ignore mouse clicks as well then I press Alt+Ctrl+Del it and open Task Manager. It suddenly starts to function.

Hi, cheers for taking time to read this. My mouse randomly started behaving strangely about a week ago. It keeps stopping clicking on certain things i.e I will be able to click on items on desktop, but when I try to click start menu or anything on taskbar nothing happens, also have same issue with open windows. The issue swaps about so one minute the taskar works and the desktop doesn't and visa versa. And with my browser (Firefox) the mouse will work on the actual web page, but won't work on Firefox itself e.g the Menu and it swaps between the two. This issue is intermittant, but is affected alot more than it is not and it wont stop working on something whilst I'm using it e.g now I can type in this web page fine, but if I try to click the address bar or menu bar nothing happens. I can usually get round this by either minimizing everything to desktop and back again using "Windows button + D" or by ALT tabbing. It seems to resolve issue on Firefox I have to have the mouse hovering over the place where it needs to work on e.g the desktop then minimize to desktop and back again and because the cursor was in the webpage area that will start working, but if I left cursor in the menu area the web page would still be unresponsive. As far as I can tell functionality with the keyboard is unaffected. I hope that makes sense to you

Just going to log on with a different account and see if that makes a difference

I have Windows Vista premium and a Lexma USB mouse. I have two problems:

1. Whenever I click once with my mouse, it registers a double click. I remember there used to be an accessibility option to set this up in Windows XP but I can't find the option to turn it off in Windows Vista. Any ideas?

2. This one's a little weirder. Sometimes my Windows Vista frees up (like a really big memory process is slowing everything down) I can fix this by unplugging my USB mouse and using the built-in touchpad mouse on my laptop. In every case, as soon as I plug the USB mouse back in, the freezing starts again. How do I look for potential conflicts in Vista? Again, I'm an XP expert but I can't figure out how to do it in Vista.

I have had my windows 8 laptop for about 2 weeks now and the mouse cursor spontaneously moves. I have even disabled my touch pad and removed my mouse and it will still move and click. I have shut down my computer a few times and still the problem persist.

It does not happen often but it seems to do it whenever I am doing a lot of clicking. It will fly to the right side of the screen and when i move it back it will fly back to the same spot. I do have a touch screen and I assume it is related to that but I see no option to turn off the touch screen.

My touch screen is also unresponsive. Sometimes it will work great and other times i will have to click 10 times for it to work (granted i turned the sensitivity to low due to the cursor problem).

The last issue i am having is that some times the charms menu will pop up for no reason.

I have a sony vaio fit 14a. I can still return it so i would like to know it that is what i should do or if there is a way to fix the problems i am having.

Thank you.

A:mouse spontaneously moving and clicking

Open Device Manager(Winkey-x M) and see if touch screen or any pointing device has a yellow bang ('!') next to it when you open it.

If nothing shows a conflict one trick you can try is boot into Safe Mode. Go into Device Manager and Delete the Mouse Driver. Save all your work and shut down by holding down the power button. After the machine has been off for 15 seconds or so, power it back up. On boot is should say new devices found and install the mouse driver again. Sometimes this reinstall will just jar things back into form. It works quite often, but not always.

Have a Panasonic laptop that's touchpad started going nuts jumping around and right clicking itself. It works fine in safe mode, and for a while I could operate the laptop just fine by leaving the touchpad disabled in the bios and using an external mouse while I tried to fix this problem, but now the external mouse is doing the same thing.Still runs in safe mode, but you cant do anything in regular mode because of all the random clicking everywhere. I had ran two different Virus scanners (Clam and Avast) hijack this(checked everything and there's nothing, but had to be in safe mode to run hijack), and used system restore to go back a month before the problem ever started.I managed the virus scans in regular mode. It would be horribly hard to set all the software needed back on to this laptop if I have to wipe it so I'm trying to avoid that. It's a laptop installed into the firetruck we run out of.

Any ideas?

Because you'll be asking for them, here's pics I managed to take of Hijack this in regular boot mode. It's all I could manage with the mouse probs going on and took forever just to get the program up and going.

I am having problems with my mouse pointer moving.

I was doing my normal work when my mouse pointer suddenly started moving around the screen, clicking occasionally on applications, menus, and icons. Sometimes it right clicks and sometimes it left clicks... this is dangerous.

I did some searching, and have taken some steps. First, I have run my Avast virus checker on the machine... it checks out clean. I disconnected my computer from the network, physically unplugged the cable, in case somebody was playing with me via remote PC. No dice. I checked the process list for a process called "mousemove.exe", but it's not there.

Rebooting doesn't help, and the same thing happens immediately after rebooting and logging back in. It doesn't matter what applications are running.

I cannot work like this... what is going on and how can I fix it?

A:Mouse Pointer moving and clicking: How to fix?

unplug all mouses from the machine and see if it moves.
Try a different mouse. If you are using a wireless mouse the receiver may be picking up some other signal similar to your mouses and move.

I've had my HP Envy for 10 months with no issues, but yesterday my touchpad started moving around randomly and I don't know why.The mouse seems to rarely go wrong UNTIL I right-click a few times (about 7), at this point it starts misbehaving. It tends to start by just jumping a few centimeters many times, then it starts to jump about 10+ centimetres at a time a few times, though if I leave it alone for a while after right clicking too many times it settles down. If I try to move the mouse while it is doing this, it will tend to slide back to where it started. Sometimes it begins doing this with no prompting. The longer it stays on, the worse these seem to get (sometimes it jumps around and clicks completely random things, usually it clicks on empty areas of the screen, it doesn't seem to be trying to accomplish anything except being unbelievably annoying) I didn't update my driver before this started happening and searched for multiple hours for a solution on various forums, to no avail. I've tried rolling back my driver, I've tried scanning my computer with Malwarebytes then disabling remote access (which was, for some reason, enabled, though clearly was not the problem). I've tried restarting the computer, updating the driver (no updates were available), clicking "Reset Devices" in the Synaptics settings menu (this seems to fix any fit the mouse is currently having in about 5 seconds, though it doesn't stop it forever), tinkering with Clickpad settings (as suggested by... My mouse was working fine up until last night, when my computer started behaving strangely. I would move my mouse across my desk and it would work fine, before the cursor simply stopped moving. I was still moving my mouse, but the cursor wasn't moving at all. It does this in every direction, and it happens at random times. I thought it might just be a problem with the optical tracking, but something else is happening today too. Whenever the cursor stops moving the mouse sometimes jumps to another part of the screen, this also occurs randomly. Even if I'm moving the mouse right it could jump to the lower left hand corner of the screen. It also clicks itself randomly, both left and right clicks. This means it's not just a problem with the optical tracking. I'm a big FPS player, so this isn't exactly what I need, especially when my gun fires randomly and the mouse stops tracking in a firefight.

Does anyone have some ideas as to what could be wrong?

Okay, so it's like this, when I middle click on my mouse it doesn't act like a middle click. Instead of middle clicking it left clicks and then middle clicks.

So for example, if I am in Firefox and I middle click on a link, it is supposed to open up the link in a new tab. Instead, it opens the link in the current page, and also in a new tab. Then I have 2 tabs of the same thing.

At first I thought it was like the drivers for it got messed up, but I went and plugged it in another computer, which I recently reformatted, and tried it out and it still did the same thing.

Any way I can fix this?

Hello, My company has a number of HP Elitebook 840 G1's and G2's deployed. We're suddenly running into issues with some users having their mouse seem to suddenly be possessed, randomly clicking and moving all over until the trackpad is disabled. I've done all sorts of troubleshooting trying to narrow down the problem. I have... - Swapped out the chassis of the laptop (put the hard drive in a different laptop of the same model). It will come back up again. This has happened with multiple users after swapping so the likelyhood of this being a coincidence and being hardware on all those machines is low. - Updated ALL drivers and the bios on machines, still comes up. Rolled back specific drivers, still happens. Seemingly ruled out HP software and hardware issues. - Checked event viewer at the times of this happening across machines, no errors or warnings popping up. - Adjusted settings on the trackpads. This is not an issue of users bumping the trackpad or something of the sort. - No viruses/malware causing this. When the issue happens, the user can double tap the trackpad to disable it, and the issue stops. Enabling the trackpad makes it start again. Users can use a wireless mouse when trackpad is disabled without issue. This specific point makes it seem like a hardware problem, but as I said we've swapped out computers to known working machines and had the issue come back up. Sometimes for others this fixes the problem. I did some searchi... Read more

For the past few days I have had a problem with clicking. It happens not only when I go to the autocomplete tablet on the explorer bar in IE, but when I'm clicking through iTunes. Sometimes I'll click on a song and it will start as though I double clicked it, and at other times I'll go through the song list, will click on a song, and it won't start until I double click it. I lowered the mouse clicking speed but it's still happening. In IE I'll go to click on the tablet to bring down the sites I've been to, and I'll have to click it a few times before the sites will come down in that drop menu-thing, and a few times before my favorites will be displayed.

What can I do about this problem? Can somebody help me fix it?

A:Clicking/mouse problems, a possible IE issue?

A few thoughts:

First, try cleaning your mouse really well, particularly the bottom surface where contact is made with your mousepad.

To help isolate the problem, and rule out whether it's caused by IE or not, try downloading another browser (i.e. Firefox, Chrome, etc.) to see if the problem still occurs. If it does, you know the problem was not caused by IE. If it doesn't, then IE caused or contributed to the problem. (PS You can, of course, delete the 2nd browser when you're done, if you wish.)

What is the situation with your mouse driver? Is it current? Are there any new updates? Downloading the newest version may solve the problem too.

Whenever I click on a object (a file, hyper link, for example), or if I highlight text, when I left go of the left mouse button, it doesn't let go. So if I move my mouse around, it will continue to highlight wherever my mouse goes until I left click again. I've been having a problem where my mice (I've tried several) don't click (left or right) when I'm holding an alphanumeric key down. For example, I'm playing a video game where I need to move (w,a,s,d) and click at the same time, but am unable to.

I am able to click while holding down shift or click.
I didn't have this problem Windows XP so I'm thinking it's windows 7 based issue...

Has anybody experience this problem and knows how to fix it?

Also, how would I go about updating the mouse drivers?
I downloaded a zip file from dynex for my DX-WMSE (model) mouse.

A:Mouse not clicking when alphanumeric key is held

Welcome to Seven Forums.
Has this always happened with Win7 and in all games you play or specific ones only? You probably don't need a mouse driver since Windows has one. Only special functions, if needed are enabled with a mouse specific driver, ie, turn lights/logo off/on, etc. the mouse should function normally.

That said, go to the Dynex site to see if they have new drivers, unless that is what the zip file is.

My mouse seams to be stuck where it'll always double-click at the press of the button and I can't change it. I've looked in the Mouse Control menu in Control panel but there's not an option to turn it off. I even tried uninstalling it but it didn't change anything.

I can't figure this on out.
