winrar archiver CRC error

Q: winrar archiver CRC error

Hi, I download a large file from usenet that came in multiple parts. I tried to merge the file together and it gives me a Packed data CRC failed: the volume is corrupted error. I used quick par and inspected the files and they are complete which means not corrupted otherwise I could repair them with their par2 files. Neone know how to fix this?

A: winrar archiver CRC error

I'm not sure if a packed data CRC error is any different than a regular CRC error but the first action to take is usually to download the file(s) again, possibly at a time when data collisions (network traffic) isn't at its peak. There can be several other reasons for getting a CRC error though, the following webpage deals with those and other possible fixes (http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/fixing-crc-error/).

I downloaded the VisualBoyAdvance, and then downloaded the UniExtractor to unzip it. After unzipping, I removed UniExtractor. I then downloaded a game for the emulator, intending to save it as a zip file (VisualBoyAdvance doesn't require you to unzip game files), but the only choice my computer gave me was to save the file as a Universal Extractor Archive. I need to save it as a zip file!

I recently downloaded a program called Power Archiver and i'm curious to know how it compares to others such as winzip or winrar. I currently use winrar, does anyone think i should swith to power archiver?

A:Is Power Archiver Any Good?

IMHO WinRAR is absolutely the best and most natural archive manager. Has the best features too, especially for multipart archives. Not free though.

I had a very nasty experience with Powerarchiver once (years ago, I'm sure they have fixed the bug by now) and I am not going to use that program again myself.

A:Can't open kgb archiver files with 7zip?

I guess nobody responded because this isn't a Vista problem. However, from what I've read, when you compress with kgb, you can specify either kgb or zip. It appears that you specified kgb so that's what you'll have to decompress the file with.

I've got a Popup that keeps reappearing on my desktop after every startup and after certain time periods again. It is advertisement, mostly for Gameforge and it has a big yellow button that says "Skip ad", when clicking it, the Popup closes. It seems to be connected to a file named "KS.exe", since the Popup closes when ending the process in task manager. There's also a process running named "ARCHIVER.exe" that keeps reinstalling in the autostart folder after being deleted.
So far I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which didn't fix the problem.
Thanks in the meanwhile!

I have the correct password for a winrar encrypted file, but am encountering an error that will not allow me to open any of the files contained within. It is a 4 part winrar file (so the rar files are named file.part1.rar....file.part4.rar). When I enter the password it says "CRC failed in the encrypted file..." but it still allows me to see the file names and folders contained within the rar file. Except, when I click on a file winrar gives me another list of errors. It again tells me CRC failed in the encrypted file, then the next line says there is a seek error in the first rar file (file.part1.rar), then the next line says "The handle is invalid". I am assuming one or more of the file parts are corrupted. My question: do the error messages indicate the possible location (which file part) of the corruption?

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I downloaded/installed Archiver.exe and got a message of warning from my real time AV, TrendMicro Antivirus. However, I misunderstood the severity of the warning and OK'd the install. Soon I could not start most programs/applications, losing network access quite often (even in Safe Mode with Networking). No Anti-malware, neither TrendMicro nor Malwarebytes on-demand, will start up. I tried installing another malware scan (Panda, I think) and Install got blocked. Tried reinstalling Malwarebytes in Safe Mode, but again I could not scan. Ran Microsoft Malicious Software Tool and one other Microsoft scan and neither found anything. Finally tried Kaspersky Rescue 10 and it found Trojan.W32.Agent.ahqlz. However, Kapersky 'recommended' NOT removing it. Help!

A:Getting CRC (checksum) error uncompressing 11GB WinRAR file

Sounds like the file is corrupt. That's what CRC checks are for. You can attempt the repair, but I've never seen one work. .sfv files help, but they must be created with the archive. Truth is, there really is no fix for a corrupt archive. If the decompression utility cannot match the CRC value, it doesn't know where to start in the file. Also look here: http://community.office365.com/en-u...Good luck.

Hi,

Welcome To TSF.

That message means that the file is damaged or corrupt. From what i have seen there is nothing you can do.

You can use tools to scan for recoverable files before they were in the Winrar folder and try and retrieve them.

Dear Fellow Members,

It has been some time since I have been able to get back on line, even briefly. Let me begin with a description of the circumstances which prompted this post.

I received a series of 32 .rar downloads (made using a good, high speed connection and under optimal conditions), which contain what I believe is a full DVD (sent as an .iso file) of a cultural event from the person who made the recording, of an event in which he was a participant, and for which he owns the rights. This does not relate to any sort of illegal file sharing.

When I tried to extract the .iso file, the file extracts fully and (apparently) completely (the counter goes up to 100%), but at the end (only after the file has extracted 100%) I consistently received the following WinRAR error message:

"CRC failed in the encrypted file xxx.iso (wrong password?)."

The password was correct (I have had experience that when the password is actually incorrect, the opening sequence will not initiate in the first place); the resulting .iso file (saved because I asked WinRAR to "keep corrupted files") is the full size of the file which was sent. According to what I have been able to read on line (and, again, from past experience), WinRAR should be able to indicate which of the files is corrupt during the extraction process (I have subsequently tested the archives several times in an attempt to find what is wrong), but no problem with any of the files has been i... I found what I thought was the most uptodate version of WINRAR on CNET and as people are finding out it causes an annoying popup and redirects to well known web sites.
Fix by ADD/REMOVE programs running unistall WINRAR
then remove file explorer.exe in the c:\windows\system32\ directory, note by hovering over this file it identifies itself as winrar, thats the end of the popup.
Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and edit in notepad, you will see all the sites you cannot access with a fixed IP Address, replace this with hosts.sav if there is one or any backup copy made yourself else get a copy from a friend.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.
In internet explorer on the menu bar select tools/internet options and on the general tab press button delete files, removing any cache version.
Run regedt32
Navigate to :-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Remove entry pointing at c:\windows\system32\explorer.exe
Reboot and you should be in the same state as me, freeas a bird

Hi

I am running Windows 8 Pro x64 and have problems regarding installation of Winrar x64 version 4.20 and 4.11.
Well the problem is that it wont start the installation at all. Nothing happens when i double-click to install
the app and event viewer isnt recording the event at all. Anyone got an idea how to solve this problem?

Thnx

A:Winrar x64

If all fails:

Survival bare hands install method:
If install fails try to extract the installer with another tool (an older Winrar, a 7-Zip or other archiver that can extract it).
Then put the extracted files in Program Files in Winrar folder and it should work. Then create shortcuts for Winrar.exe and all is set.
Don't worry, this is what the installer normally does but now you are the installer.

Then assign shell entries from Winrar itself. (for right click menu's and archive icons)

Maybe there are other workarounds, but this one works.

By the way, welcome to the forums!

Cheers

Hey guys. Got a quick question. I've never really compressed anything with winrar. I'd like to know how to compress something to a certain size. Whenever I do Right click->add this file to archive->press ok, it comes out as the same size. Specifically, this is an episode of South Park I need to compress and send to a friend.

A:Winrar

the "rared" file size depends on how big the "unrared" file is. however most of compressing program (including winrar/winzip) has an option to compress and to divide comprassed file into certain size files at the same time. so you can choose what size of files 2mb, 10 mb or whatever you need.

Hi Maurice,

Windows XP included their own unzip program but not include any WinZip or WinRAR.

You will need to download the version of these program.

WinZip = http://www.winzip.com/

My suggestion, get WINRAR! This program works even better for you.

You'd have to use the restore partition on your laptop which will restore your laptop to exactly the state it was in when you bought it. I'm not sure that's really worth it. Note: you'd lose ANYTHING on your hard disk.

So I downloaded WinRAR 3.80 from http://www.freewaredown.com.cn/winrar.htm, installed it, and then later used it. Now about every minute this little message box keeps popping up...

I had no idea what it is, but I knew it was as a result of the WinRAR program, so I figured I'd just uninstall the program and get on with my life. Well after doing that, the thing has continued popping up. I'm definitely not that computer savvy, so I was just wondering if someone had any idea what it is and if it's anything serious. And also considering that it does pop up every single minute and is starting to annoy the hell out of me, I'd really like to find a way to remove whatever it is.

Version 5.11

1. WinRAR can unpack TAR archives containing folders with pax
extended headers. Previous versions failed to unpack them.

2. "Keep broken files" extraction option is supported for 7-Zip archives.

3. Bugs fixed:

a) WinRAR 5.10 did not set "hidden", "read-only" and "system"
file attributes when unpacking ZIP archives;

b) WinRAR 5.10 failed to update self-extracting RAR archives
containing nested ZIP archives stored without compression;

c) ZIP archive created with "Do not store paths" option
included unnecessary empty name records for folders;

d) archived files could have 1 hour modification time error
in Windows XP;

e) deleting a file in RAR5 solid archive containing files stored
with -ver switch caused such files to lose version information;

f) black rectangles were displayed instead of toolbar buttons
in 16- and 24- bit screen color modes and Windows custom text size
larger than 100%.

WinRAR 5.11-new release

download page:http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/30113-winrar_500_32-bit

"WinRAR is an advanced data compression utility that supports a wide array of format including RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, ACE, TAR, GZip, UUE, ISO, BZIP2, Z and 7-Zip. It enables you to create, organize and manage archives in a comfortable and quick manner.

Rich feature lineup

The complex compression algorithm it uses creates small archives, saving disk space and enabling faster file sharing. Audio and graphics files benefit from a special archiving algorithm, one that doesn?t make a compromise on quality. It includes Windows Explorer shortcuts for easy access and supports drag and drop as well.

WinRAR also provides possibilities to split archives into several volumes; this way, a large archive is divided into other smaller ones, which makes the perfect way to share huge files.

Advanced security and ease of use

In case you wish to secure your files, you can always protect your data with a password, while the 'Repair' function comes in handy whenever you try to fix a broken archive.

Besides the fact that it does a great job when it comes to compressing files, WinRAR also integrates dedicated features that allow you to manipulate archives with a single click. You can backup the files you're about to compress, you can test the archived files and you can even perform virus scans before decompressing, without putting the data stored on your computer at risk... Q: WinRAR

Hello i have been having trouble with winRAR. I downloaded a game called Conquer it is completely legal and free and many people play it. That's not the point though. I have a Dell 4600 with Windows XP and Pentium 4 and it is practically brand new. Anyways, my problem is winRAR is messing up the downloading scheme that Conquer is trying to do. It works well with everything else but Conquer's Auto Patch won't have it. Anyway, what I am really saying is what is an Uninstaller that will completely WIPEOUT winRAR because I have Uninstaller 2004 or whatever and it says it is uninstalled but winRAR still comes up and every time i open uninstaller 04', it says it is cleaning up the recently uninstalled file, winRAR. It will not uninstall all the way. What will solve this problem? How can I completely uninstall it?

Hey, I often extract batches of big files with winrar. Lately I've been noticing that winrar is only using 2GB (total ram usage) when extracting before the process slows down to clean out the memory (5-10 seconds where it stands stil) and when it's down to 1.6GB it speeds up again. I'm wondering why it doesn't use all my ram, I have 12GB and 64bit Win7 Ultimate. My Hardisk is a SSD so shouldn't be a problem. It's just annoying that it limits itself to 2GB. Any way to get winrar to use at least 5-6GB ram? I mean I have 10gb ram free that probably could be put into better use.

Are you using the 64-bit version of WinRAR?

Ok i'm thinking of selling my computer and i have about 70 gigs of stuff i need to keep (progams, docs, pics, mp3's stuff like that) i have winrar and want to take all these files and make 1 big multiple rar to fit on dvd's so i can load them all back to my new comp (when i get it) and click the first so that it will extract all the stuff i saved in 1 shot.

how can i do this so that i have the smallest size in rars as possible to fit to dvd's so i don't use a ton of them?

A:Winrar Help

You'll want to create a split archive that spans volumes. Easy enough. I can't visualize the actual steps to take at the moment, but the built-in help should be enlightening. Search for "volume" and "span". That should get you some good results. I believe you can tell winrar how large each volume should be (it may have a preset for DVD, but I don't remember for sure.)

As for minimizing the total size, the best thing I can think of would be to set the compression level at Max. Bear in mind that with 70 gigs to process, winrar is going to take some time... a lot of time. Perhaps hours. If at all possible, I'd look through my files for any that I don't actually want.

Winrar vs 7-Zip vs default Windows 10 compressed zipped. Which one should I use and why?

A:Winrar vs 7-Zip

3rd-party compression are compatible with a wider range of compression formats, and can offer more options such as password-protection, VirusTotal support and more.

I have used 7-zip for several years without any issues, it's basic functionality is all I require. However, it may not be suitable for those looking for a fancy GUI. I deal with .7z and .zip.

Resource Usage / Performance varies with Foreground vs Background processing, but you can manually decrease the time it takes to Extract or Archive by switching to Performance Profile from the Battery icon on Windows System Tray.

if winrar give you an error, the file is most likely corrupted. if it asked you for a password, it's either a fake or the author wanted something in return, often something nasty and not worth bothering......

if it's not these, you need to give more details.

I just downloaded the Winrar program so that I could view a video of two files that end with "mpg.001" and "mpg.002".
When I opened with Winrar, the first has a tiny Winzip icon next to it and the other has one of those Windows blank icons, when no program is associated with it. However, I did extract it to a file, and it is a Winrar file. When I double click it, it says that one of the files is missing date, or something to that effect.

I have tried this with three different sets of files and I don't know how to fix it.

Any ideas? I am unfamiliar with Winrar, but somewhat familiar with Winzip. I am running WinXP.

Thanks!

How can someone delete a file (or files) from Winrar? I want to delete some old files from a Winrar and add in new ones.

A:Winrar

The most surefire way would be to extract your rar (right click and pick extract to foldername), then go and delete the files you want out, add the files you want in; then at the end, go to edit (in windows explorer), select all, file, add to archive to make a new archive.

The other way, if you only need to make minor changes and the rar isn't very big, is to open the rar file, then go to the file you want to delete, click it and press the Del button. The problem with that is once you click OK it rebuilds the whole archive. This is slow if your archive is large or you have to do this many times. That's why I prefer first method if you have a lot of files or a big rar. Then drag and drop to add files.

I read a post on this site where you have the fix for an answer to my problem. My problem is which just occurred is when I right click a winrar file the extract here is no longer present in Windows 7. It now say open with winrar and than extract to and than I must pick the folder which is a much longer process. In your site's cure it says open winrar and go to options and settings. That is my problem I can't figure out how to get options or basically how to open winrar. I get to the properties section of winrar and there are a bunch of tabs but none of them are called options or settings? Could you tell me how to get to options so I can proceed with the fix?

I believe that this is how the program is suppose to function

the only problem is I have been trying to create an archive for like 4 horus its been preparing files for ever... I'm not kiding it has found 470000 files so far and is still going... I know there aren't that many files... is this a problem with Winrar or are there really that many files that it found that I selected to create an archive of? Is there anyway I can see the files that it has current found?

I guess its possible that there are that many but I highly doubt... I was no a network computer and have admin privalleges over it... Im trying to back it up... so I just went yada yada ctrl a archive... Have a stack of files that appear to be winrar type
names are in format filename.part01.rar, filename.part02.rar, etc
Winrar says unknown format or damaged (using version 3.50 beta3,4 or 3.42)
WinAce says not a valid RAR archive (winace 2.5)

This pack of files also came with a .NFO that is blank
a .sfv file and a zipscript-c.core file
I ran SFV checker and import the rar files and try the rename option but it doesn't work

I bought a new PC with XP on it, and I am trying to transfer 4 years of data from my old PII-winME slug and came across this problem.

When I use Zip files, it works fine............. but when I tried to use winRAR my new PC takes the files as .001 .002 .003 files and I have to prompt it to open with winRAR. There is no 'right click extract here' option, and when I open it with winrar it doesn't recognize the file type.

Do I need to rename them all (is there an easy way to do it??) or is there a way to configure my PC to do it the right way???

I am using the trial version of winRAR and the files are typically home videos, and proggies I no longer have the CD's for (2 kids under 4............... they like CD's LOL)

I went ahead and .rar'ed all these files and then sent the old puter to my sister................... can ya help me please?

A:Help with winRAR???

If you have .001 to .00whatever it means that they are part of a series, you have to find the .rar file that starts the series. If it isn't giving you the option to right click and open with winrar that is usually because you don't have it installed....you say you have the trial version, but did you install it on the new pc? Finding the .rar files should do the trick, though.

Hope this helps,

Winrar has been updated to 3.91

Version 3.91

Quote:
1. This version can decompress 7-Zip archives created with
LZMA2 algorithm.

2. Now a password is requested only once when unpacking 7z archives
with encrypted file names from context menu. WinRAR 3.90 asked it

3. This version can unpack tar.bz2 archives consisting of several
smaller bz2 streams merged together. Previous versions unpacked
only the first nested bz2 stream in such composite archive.

4. WinRAR displays CRC32 of files inside of usual .gz (not .tar.gz)

5. Bugs fixed:

a) WinRAR 3.90 displayed "Save" button instead of "Open" or "OK"

b) WinRAR could display incorrect file names when browsing malformed

d) WinRAR 3.90 could fail to delete a part of files after archiving

I was very impressed with your site and the professionalism it displays. I am sure someone can help this old age pensioner. This is actually not a systems problem but I wasn't sure where to post it. My apologies if it is in the wrong section.

I have a Dell Desktop Inspiron 530, Intel Core 2 Duo processor E6320 with Windows Vista Home Premium. When I clicked on a song for downloading, WinRAR displayed a box on the screen with the song and various folders including "Extract" folder. This way I could hear the song by clicking on the song and extract it to the folder of my choice. Recently, when I click on the song it goes into a folder in C Drive and there is an extra step for me as I have to go to that folder to extract it again which then displays the box I used to get the first time. I am not that technically sound but would someone help me how to change this path back to the box I used to get the first time displayed on the screen where I am downloading? This box also contains File, Commands, Tools, Favouritr, options & Help.

Hi, I have an unregistered version of the most current winRAR and I'm having some problems unpacking things. I downloaded a huge movie (1.2 gigs is huge to me) but when I un-RAR it, there are only 2 files in there and I know it should have about 30...whenever I open the original RARed file, it says that the archive is corrupt. Now, my guess is that I downloaded this movie in chunks and stuff so for whatever reason, things didn't get downloaded but I really do not want to download the whole movie again. I know all of the files are there but they're just not showing (the file takes up 1.2 gigs, the rar-ed files HAVE to be there!). So my question is, how do I access these files even though winRAR won't show them, there has to be a way to find these files. I've tried winRAR, winzip, and ISO buster...no help. If you guys can help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hiya

I downloaded a huge movie (1.2 gigs is huge to me)Click to expand...

Where did you download this movie from? That sounds like the size you would get from a p2p program.

I use 2 drives my c drive (30GB) and my F (70GB). there is plenty of space on the f drive but c is almost full. because the files are so big i have them on my ipod, so when i try to extract them to the F drive they first got onto the c drive and then get transfered over to the F, but i do'nt have enough space on the C drive to do this. how do i extract the files directly to the F drive.

Hi TomTom8p

If they are winrar files extract them from your ipod which is "? drive" to the folder you want to on f drive.

You should be able right click on the files ? drive " your Ipod" and extract to the folder you wish.

Or maybe i misunderstood the problem.

Hello, I was wondering what is the best compression software. I am looking for the following:
-Fast at opening ZIP files
-Fast at compressing ZIP files
-Fast and extracting ZIP files

A:WinRAR VS 7zip

They all do an adequate job. Any time difference would most likely be minimal. I used those two back in the old days but now I use 7-zip (exclusively). It works fine and its free.
