Sorry if i may have answered the question, i just don't have a clue.

Will newer video cards run older games? Lego Star Wars II support say they only recommend cards they have tested. Well their list of supported video cards is from 2006 and not very appealing. Many of them aren't even available now. Are they sure newer cards won't run their games or just unwilling to stick their neck out and say, yea maybe they could?

A:Old games-new cards? Lego support says no

I'm sure they will run fine if the OS supports it. Vista won't run some older games but those are going back at least 6 years.

I can't really think of any other reason why they wouldn't, the old cards technologies are built into the new cards with the possible exception of whatever the old Voodoo cards did..

Hi, guys. I was recently researching on how many games are compatible with Windows 8 Release Preview ( And Professional (( Both x32 and x64 bit )) ). Also, i was extremely bored, so i did this...

Here are the results. ( I will update this topic each day, because i keep on testing games )

Grand Theft Auto games

GTA London 1969

GTA Vice City

GTA San Andreas ( Bit glitchy )

GTA 4 ( Works OK, glitches sometimes )

Gears of War games

GoW 1 ( Some bug, might not work )

GoW 2 ( Glitchy sometimes )

GoW 3 ( A-lot of graphics required )

The last pack i tested...

Team Fortress 2

Black Mesa

(( A Valve member said to me that Valve is fed up of 8, so Steam's now in development for Linux ))

( Half Life 2 Episode 2 crashes each 5 minutes so i didn't mention it, sorry... ))

Every version of Half Life ( Might work on some desktop )

Team Fortress

And all Steam Apps...

So, how much Giga Bytes did i waste in this?

Hmm... About more than 50 GB

How much money did i waste?

More than 5,000 Rupees ( Indian Currency )

This is for you all, so enjoy! (( Don't even reply about the money... ))

If i made any mistakes, want me to test games, have any bugs, feel free to PM me or reply here.

This saves a-lot of GBs for you guys!

I really hate to do this to someone that actually took time to do this however all of the aforementioned games work on my system without any problems, after I updated my GFX card drivers from the windows 8 Pro drivers.

One thing I did note with some of the larger Steam apps was that you need to verify the integrity of the files if you have done a straight upgrade from a previous OS. (Most of my games had to Re-download because they were somehow corrupted on a completely different HDD?)

Whilst I am writing this I am compiling a video of TF2, which was filmed by fraps on Win8.

If you want to do a serious 'list' you need to update all of your drivers and software and have other people to help you create the list.
Oh and Battlefield 3 Works fine for me, as does League of Legends.

Whilst my video is compiling I'm actually re-downloading Borderlands 2 to play, so ill report back if that works or not for 'Me'

Okay, so I am trying to play games, with decent graphics settings. But I just can't. I spent a lot of money on my pc (near on 2k in total, I could have gotten it so much cheaper but my impatience got the best of me) but it can't play even minecraft without some serious lag.. I don't know why. I've changed a few parts, upgraded a few parts and still. So much lag.... Here are my specs: CPU: AMD FX-6300 Six Core @ 3.3GHzGPU: Radeon R9 390 8GB GDDR5PSU: 700WMotherboard: ASRock N68-S3 FXRAM: 8GB Single channel DDR3 @ 1600MHz (2 x 4GB)HDD: Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM Here are the average frame rates for some games: GTA V: lowest settings, 20 fps (stutters alot) and as low as 8 fpsFallout 4: 30 fps to 40 fps with dips as low as 10 fps on lowest with a lot of performance mods and texture lowering mods (so yes the game looks like c**p)Minecraft (vanilla): everything on low it can dip as low as 1 fps but averages 20 fps to 25 fpsBattlefield 4: this is a weird one because I can handle this game on max at 60 fps with dips as low as 40 fps.. Rust: On lowest settings, 20 fps - 30 fpsBeamNG Drive: I can play about 20 seconds at 60 fps before the frames just die, they drop to less than 5 fps and stay that way until I restart the game I don't understand, shouldn't I be able to play these games on max without a problem?

Sorry if this is in the wrong category but I have several questions relating to Video Cards, 4k tv's, and 4k videos on YouTube.

Are there video cards that support or can run games in 3840x2160 (4k)? I just upgraded to a 4k TV and am using an HDMI cable for the PC. I noticed my graphics card only goes up to 1920x1080 for resolution settings, so I must be greatly limiting the TV's capabilities?

I was also wondering about these "4k videos" you see on YouTube that can test out the TV. Will I really be able to view it in 4k or will it really only be 1080p because of the graphics card? What if I bypass the computer and use the smart tv feature to access youtube directly to watch the 4k videos from that, will it really then be in 4k doing that option?

Under some of the 4k videos on youtube, I noticed the settings only go up to 720p HD, so I am not sure if youtube is a really good test to view something in 4k to begin with, sigh. Those are just some of the questions I have. Thank you for answering them in detail and for explaining how some of this works, lol.

A:Are there video cards that support or can run games in 3840x2160 (4k)

I know that the Nvidia 780s support 4K, so would guess that anything newer would too. AMD no idea, but I expect that a visit to their web site would confirm which cards do.

Dont know which card you are currently using, so no idea on that one, but yes, HDMI cable works. I originally used my Displayport, but there were issues, mainly that I could only run at 2/4K at 30hz- this was not an issue with HDMI.

4K you tubes- if your screen is at 1920, thats th emax resolution you will see. The picture is dependent on output res, not the monitor res.

It seems that old games support is totally butchered on windows 8 and 8.1. They run but slowly.
Desperados was unplayable for example. (I suffered through it with wineD3D and broken UI)
No One Lives Forever is playable but has crappy framerates. Less than 30, which sometimes drops below 20. Which makes it not quite enjoyable....

I was wondering if I could hack some sort of solution. Maybe copy relevant files from older windows versions. 7 and Vista are the closest. These games ran well up until 7. Is it possible? Anyone try something like this?

A:8/8.1 crappy old games support any good workarounds?

Remember that some old games' frame rate is capped at 20 (more wasn't necessary back then). I remember that this is the case for AOE II for example.

somone expert please help! my asus silent 520 GT card doesn't run any new 11/12 games, keeps giving error upon launch of the following:

''failed creating D3D device of at least version10.0 on adapter ''NVIDIA GeForce GT 520'' with driver ''30124''. Error is DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED. This is typically caused by not having the minimum required DirectX support in the GPU.''

Now my card gt520 supports direct X 11 & OpenGL, and i'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (which should include direct x 11. The lastest tested driver is 301 (a beta) and I'v also tried with the older driver that came with the card and another WHQL certified driver; that's 3 drivers all of them produced same error. I'v updated to directx x 11 like 6 times none of which helped. So what's going on?? anyone with any ideas please help, as I'm keen to start gaming and throw out this doggy graphics card if it's not fixable. thnx in advance

A:Help! my Geforce 520 GT doesn't support any new games, D3D DXGI_ERROR

From what I can tell from googling this problem, it's not the DX11 software on your computer that's the problem, it's the DirectX hardware support on the GPU that is lacking...

The is a common response to people reporting this problem...

Typically caused by not having the minimum directx support in the GPU. For NVIDIA GPU's. DirectX10.0 support is required.

I know the card advertises that it does have full DX11 support.

The 520 GT is a very low end card. With all due respect, if you want to play current games I'd suggest upgrading to a more capable card, perhaps a 560 for under $200

A:Trying too find card games build in like XP

The card games are there you just have to activate them in Windows.

Go to: -

Control panel, Programs and features, Then look for the "Turn Windows features on or off"

Once there, active the games in windows.

So, whenever playing games my computer will unpredictably crash. I think this probably means that there's a problem with my graphics card. I'm 90% sure my drivers are up to date but don't know how to check. When it crashes I sometimes hear a loud screech through my headphones and my monitor says there's no input.

For example, yesterday I played Assassin's Creed III and had it crash after 30-40 minutes of playing. I then installed some GPU monitoring software and had it log the next time I played. I then played 2.5 hours worth (I tabbed out to check some things a few times) then it crashed again. I checked the log and couldn't see anything that looked abnormal. The GPU Log: (Switch on Text-Wrapping)

For some reason it seems to crash more frequently when playing Mass Effect 2. Games I know crash: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed III, Spec Ops: The Line, Trials Evolution: Gold Edition, The Walking Dead and War of the Roses.

I bought and have been playing Bioshock (through Steam) at high settings with no problems at all (more than 15 hours racked up in this game with extended 5 hour + gaming sessions no problem).

Bought NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer and COD4 as well a few days ago, and installed both earlier. However, when I try to play them my PC just reboots of its own accord. This happens at about 2-3 minutes into NWN2MOB, and with COD4 it always happens at almost the exact same point during the introductory sequence whilst the main game is loading.

Portal runs okay as well as Bioshock. Given this pattern, I suspected a Securom problem, but I found it happens with Oblivion as well - again after about 2 minutes of game time as with NWN2. (I also tried a no-DVD crack for COD4 to see if that helped, but it didn't make any difference) I also found that the HL2 Lost Coast video stress test causes a reboot as well.

So... how do I diagnose and correct this issue? Why does Bioshock run so well for so long whilst a less taxing game like NWN2 causes a reboot so soon, and COD4 won't even get past the introductory loading sequence?

I am stumped. Usual suspects for me would be:

A:New build reboots when starting games

Have you modified the voltages or timings on the memory? If not, you may want to loosen them up and maybe up the voltage .05 - .1. My first thought if that your PSU may not be powerful enough. I know it is inconvenient, but maybe upgrading to a 650-750 watt might be a good investment for future and present issues. Also, I notice you used an IDE HDD, is that the original drive you formatted windows onto?

Hi all,

my new custom desktop build is around one month old now.
I am experiencing issues while gaming, for example AC Syndicate.
Sometimes I get an BSOD, but thats very rare. Also, the BSOD is freezing as well, so Windows is not even generating dump files. It only happened one time. That one time I collected the dumps to start a thread here: New Custom Build - BSOD within Games - Windows 10 Forums

But as BSOD crash analyst axe0 said, without dumps we cant analyze anything...
What has been done?
- Reformatted PC, then I thought the issue is solved, but it came back...
- All non-microsoft services are disabled
- All startup entries are disabled
- Memtest ran around 12 hours, no issues
- Used HWMonitor to check temperature while gaming and freezing, no heat issue detected.
- Ran Furmark around 3 hours, no freezes...
- Replaced GPU, no changes...
- BIOS is up2date, but there is a new BIOS which I tried to install, but BIOS said "cannot read file"
--> Currently running on v1104, published on 2016/01/14
--> most up2date BIOS is v1105, published on 2016/01/20 - not able to install it

Any ideas?

Hi all,

around a month ago I build a new PC for Gaming purpose.

Intel Core i7-6700K Prozessor

Samsung SSD 850 Evo 500GB
Corsair K70 RGB, MX Brown, Gen2
EVGA TORQ X10, carbon
Asus VG248QE

After a fresh new install of Windows 10 I started gaming on Assassins Creed Unity. After a while I got BSODs stating IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (note: without the term DRIVER!). I first thought the game is just buggy, but I am getting these issues with AC Syndicate as well. So I started using benchmark tools like Furmark (3 hours) and Memtest (12 hours), but I did not get any BSODs. The next strange thing is that my BSODs never created dump files, I RARELY saw the BSOD message as the PC was just freezing and giving distorted sounds. I had a lot BSODs while gaming (every 30 minutes) and I only had two or three times the BSOD message. The message got stuck at 0% when stating that dump files will be generated. I checked after each crash, there were no dump files.
When I was forcing a BSOD using testing tools I saw my Windows generating the dump files, so I was sure windows would have generated them if possible. However, after testing with benchmarks and all, I decided to reformat my SSD and install a fresh new Windows 10 and only drivers as well as AC Syndicate. I l... Read more

The graphics card will not work with the motherboard you chose. You're looking for a PCIe graphics card. This is the PCIe version of the card.

I think its a reasonable choice for its price range.

As for your processor, it'll work with that motherboard as well, but Id recommend one of the core2Duos, maybe those new E2140 chips. This should perform much much better.

Ok, so I'm having a few different types of bluescreen errors on my computer.
First off, specs of importance:

AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor (Core name is AMD bulldozer)
Radeon HD 5670 1GB Graphics card
Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
Windows 7 Home Premium

I've had a multitude of errors, sometimes I wont have a problem for a while.
I've had memory errors and those LESS_EQUAL_ type things.
Also, sometimes when certain games go to full window mode upon startup I wont get to see a blue-screen and instead I suddenly notice that my computer has restarted.

All cooling is checked out and I havn't seen anything
New build so there isn't any dust in the whole case, and the case has all the wires routed through a side pannel out of the way for good airflow.
only CERTAIN games crash, I was suspect of my graphics card until I opened up skyrim on Ultra, with mods for even higher detail textures, and it all works out just fine...

Games crashing upon opening are:
"Blacklight: Retribution" and the new "Counter Strike: Global Offensive"

I've checked my Direct X Version and I'm on 11 so I figure that isnt the problem.

I doubt it's related, but for some reason the silverlight pluggin for netflix crashes occasionally for no apparent reason...

I'm pretty sure all my drivers (definitely my GPU) is up-to-date but there hasn't been any change.

The system runs fine normally and even with some old games but if i load a new game such as civilization 5 on steam or try running examples in UDK it resets.

Hi Ive got a similar problem in a post i just made...

As your computer is a new build, the first thing that strikes me.. have you accounted for power consumption correctly.

You didn't list the Power supply size. EDIT.. Just seen it.. my bad

Also i belive some graphics cards need an additional cable to draw extra power from the motherboard.

Any way as we have similar problems, i will be watching your post, incase it has any ideas.

So, I was forced into building a new PC a few weeks ago because the Chipset Fan on my old ASUS Motherboard completely locked up and burned out and I'm not yet brave enough to pry the sucker off and try putting something back on.

Needed the upgrade anyways

So I drove to my usual place of business, bought a new Motherboard, a new CPU, new RAM and a new Video Card. I reformatted and fresh installed on my previous 200gig harddrive went through and did all the good little things you should do like downloaded all the windows updates, installed all the updated drivers I could find, etc. etc. This is my 5th PC build and I'm perplexed by this odd behavior that I now have.

I play World of Warcraft (shocker right?) and for the most part my PC performs beautifully when I'm playing it. I also enjoy fun little short 6-7 hour games like the CSI Series, Paradise and new On the Rain Slicked Precipice by Penny Arcade.

When I first reinstalled all these games I realized that the .mov files on my first CSI game didn't work. I unstalled and reinstalled and checked my Quicktime installs and could not get it to work. No big deal....i figured it was the oldest of the games and was not surprised that maybe it didn't work with the new video card and it's drivers. All of the other 3 titles work fine.

I started up On the Rain Slicked Precipice Ep1. and had it finished again in about 5 or so hours. Decided to start up On the Rain Slicked Precipice Ep2. And suddenl... Read more

Hi Guys,

Hoping you can help me as I'm at my wits end with my girlfriends computer.

I recently built her this PC with second hand parts from my old PC, new parts are;
Case + fans
Fresh install of win7 professional* more info further in

Old parts are;

Graphics card

Custom Build
Windows 7 professional 64bit SP1
Intel i5 2400 @ 3.10 GHz
Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 (LGA1155)
8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @686MHz (9-9-9-24)
GeForce GTX 650Ti
750w generic PSU

While playing games she crashes after roughly 5-10 minutes, so far this has occurred with Dying light and Smite. She has not received a crash while browsing.

Every so often the crash results in a BSOD (.dmp files attached)

Graphics drivers are up to date as verified with device manager and on Nvidia's website.

So far I have ran Windows memory diagnostic with no results and chkdsk (logs attached) and the crashes persist.

I'm going to run Memtest86 overnight to see if that picks up anything - however the RAM sticks are brand new!

*After building the PC it was accidentally restarted during a windows update installation causing a corrupt install and therefore being unable to boot. This was fixed by reformatting the drives with the windows install disk and re-installing.

The PSU fan is a bit noisy so that's my first guess however I wanted to get some professional insight before I start spending cash to fix the problem.

Thanks in advance!

Hey how's it going? My name is Mike, and my problem is with Video. I just downloaded and installed an updated driver for the SiS630/730 chipset and unfortunately it doesn't support 256 colors. The only color Depths it supports are 16 colors, 16 bit and 32 bit, with resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 1024x768. i'm running Windows XP Professional and some old games wont run without the 256 colors depth. Is there any way to override that color depth check, or install the 256 color depth manually?

A:Video Issues - Chipset Doesn't Support 256 colors - Error Running Games

You may wish to try this:
On your desktop or on the Start menu, right-click the game or other program that you want to run in 256 colors, and then click Properties.
Click the Compatibility tab.
Select the Run in 256 colors check box.

The screen will revert to your default color quality when you close the program.

This problem has occurred "somewhat"(I don't know when exactly) recently. I used to be able to play full screen games just fine but now (for some reason), everytime I launch a full screen game, it auto minimizes.

When I alt+tab back(or click the game icon on the task bar), it remaximizes the game but quickly gets minimized after a second.

Games play fine while in "windowed" mode(Warcraft 3, etc).. Full screen keeps minimizing.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit):

Nvidia GeForce 8300(onboard video card).
I've done scans with Avast, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware and they all found nothing.

Three months ago(same system), full screen games played fine however I was on sort of a "full screen" gaming break, so I only recently tried playing full screen games like Warcraft 3 and this is when I encountered the "auto minimizes" problem.

The only major difference(between the time full screen games worked and now) is Avast 5. I upgraded from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5, other than that, there were no other major changes with the computer I am on.

Avast 5 is on Silent/Gaming mode, and I tried disabling all the shields temporarily to see if it would fix the issue but it didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas(or need anymore info that may help)? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!

Does anyone know how to keep the Vista Games Explorer from automatically adding entries for games? I currently have a completely empty VGE and upon launching any of my games via double-clicking their exe, VGE creates a new entry once the game is closed. I already unchecked both "Download information about installed games" and "List most recently played games" in the VGE options window but that didn't help. I have a third party program that lets me add my own custom entries so obviously I'd like to add them manually so I have more control over fine details. I know that the automatically-created entries can be hidden after the fact, but that really clutters up the third party editor since it displays all games in its list, hidden or otherwise. Any thoughts?

Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website ( from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch from October 21st 2016. Tried to disable the internal Intel Graphics Card but e.g. Battlefield 1 is then compla... I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. Did a lot of searching, googling and testing before this post, if you find the solution that I missed then I freaking love you.

I just put together a new Intel build for my GF for one reason: Sims 3. She loads up Sims and in game there are what appears to be scan lines or possibly screen tears. They are prevalent in all kinds of environments in game and make the game unplayable for her.

I have been trying to fix this for a week now to no avail.

Here is what I have tried:

1. We have the same vid card, so I switched them out

2. Updated ALL drivers for MB, VGA, BIOS, Win7 mostly through the manufacturer websites.

3. Enabled Vsync and Triple Buffer in the VGA control panel

4. Forced the VGA to max graphics through the Nvidia Control Center for a theory that the PC is rendering faster than the monitor can refresh

5. I have ran another game and the lines are still present

6. Tried underclocking the VGA since it is shipped OC'd

7. We have ran the game on my PC with the same monitor, NO LINES. Again, NO LINES WHEN ON MY PC WITH SAME MONITOR AND VGA
Still lines on hers....
I have tried all these things before posting this. Thank you so much for helping me figure this out.

The monitor is a Viewsonic vs13860

Long time reader - first time poster. Built my first custom computer a while back and have been fighting issues for a while.

Here are my symptoms; these don't occur with any specific frequency and don't seem to be caused by any specific action:

-Crash w/o BSOD....just a frozen screen

These are the actions I've taken:
-Manually (and with third party software) verified all drivers are current
-Windows Memory Test
-Third party RAM test
-Clean install/re-installs of windows 7 and upgrade to windows 10

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Now, when games crash, it usually shows the whole entire screen, filling up with flickering blue squares. The sound keeps going on for about 10 more seconds, and then the sound freezes up too. When I press any button after this happens, The monitor flickers and then shows a screen that is bizarrely coloured. I am using Windows XP Professional 64 bit-edition

Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

I really appreciate what you guys do and I hope I followed all the instructions right on how to post my logs and stuff, here's the attachment and some basic system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have reinstalled to this computer numerous times.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 @ 2.83 ghz

GPU: Radeon HD 5770

Mem: 4 Gigs of Memory

Motherboard: p5n32-e sli nforce 680i chipset

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

Since i bought this rig a year ago i haven't been able to play any games that runs on the valve engine(half life 2, css, portal etc) more than a few seconds and then the comp reboots.
With Bf2 i can play max 30 minutes and Bf2142 maybe one hour then they crash exactly the same way as Valve games..
All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

My comp consist of:

cpu: q6600
gfx: 8800 gt 512mb Point of View
mobo: gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4
ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

Anyone else hade this issue and manage to solve it then please let me know, also greatful for all suggestions.

The Xbox games app shows your profile and scores and that is about it. I figure the reason is the games you bought are not Metro Apps which still uses a Client. Maybe the Client would be updated to Xbox Games instead since the client is not in the metro app thing.

I can say the Client works:

This problem just started today. The games explorer will not start a new game; it will only try to start saved games (even when there are no saved games). I checked all of the settings and could find nothing that should cause this behavior. The only way I can start a new game is to go the the exe file and start from there. I suppose I could start a saved game, if any, and then go to the menu and start a new game from there. However, I would like to fix this problem. I have a Dell furnished CD for Windows Vista, but I don't know if one can reinstall only the games. I surely do not want to reinstall the OS.

I have been working with ya'll on fixing existing problems in my computer. All cleared up now, but I have a simple question. Am I pretty safe in going back and using places such as MSNgames, Yahoo games, etc. and playing the online versions? I feel they are pretty reputable sites, but want to make sure so I don't get into the "problems" again.

Also, my kids are signed up on toontown thru - we have paid for one month (only 4.95) but I don't want them to access it again, without knowing my computer is safe in those sites?

I was wondering about that if there's a some kind of conflict, or penalty if i want to play an original game on live (steam download) and later play another one but it's cracked. Let me explain i have some original games but i have one cracked that use games 4 windows, but i played it just offline so i don't have the need to go live with this one. The thing is that i uninstalled it long ago, but i want to play it again, so....if i install it again to play offline, would be a problem, conflict or penalty (like permanent ban or something) with my original games that i play online?
Need some answers please.

We can't help with cracked games.
If the game was originally registered on steam, then it is
still there.
All you have to do is install steam, login to your account and download it from "my games".

After having been in touch with Dell support for nearly three months, I decided to recount my experiences here, mainly to provide insights for future Dell customers as to what their rights are, and to provide tips on how to effectively contact tech support.
I hope this guide can be of use for people struggling with their purchase as much as I did (and in fact, continue to).
Anyone having further insight to improve this article is welcome to leave notes here, and I will try to incorporate them in an update if deemed relevant.

Been Googling but not putting in the right words perhaps lol

I have all my components selected but haven't purchased yet:

Planning to build a system but would like to test the compatibility first. Is there by chance an online site where I can input all my components to make sure they are going to work together?

This is what I have picked out:

Intel Core i7 875K Unlocked Processor
Corsair Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler
Corsair TX850W Power Supply
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (X2 for 16gig total)
ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Galaxy 43GGS8HX3SPZ GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
Thermaltake VL70001W2Z V5 Black Edition Mid Tower

The CPU, Cooler & PSU are a bundled deal and listed the case for the heck of it (lol)

Would like to build this in a virtual environment before spending the money and finding out things won't work. As well, any expert advice will be well received.

Thank You!

A:Steam games in the Games application

The Games app is really intended for Microsoft downloaded games; I don't believe there is any way to put your Steam games here. However, if you would like to use the Games library that was in Win7, it carried over to 8, although it does not have a Metro

I went out and bought Sims 2, Nhl 2005, and Madden 2005 and I'm having problems with every one

with sims 2 the gameplay is not extremely smooth, but I find no matter what I always end up getting a crash message reading "This Application has crashed, this process will be terminated" i get it either in the first 5 minutes or through 2 hours, but everytime I play it usually crashes.

ok with Nhl 2005 the game plays great on the highest resolution, but sometimes just for kicks i get booted to windows without and messages...or sometimes it even reboots my system again with no message. Most of the time when this happends is when I'm exiting a game to the menu screen. Like I find when I transist from game to menu it like changes the screen and I can see my background for a bit.

With madden the game just runs very slow, even on low resolutions with everything turned down. The textures on teh white jerseys look flickery and the field lines are also jumpy.

Not sure if many of you noticed, but post Windows Insider build 14936, the Steam overlay would refuse to work with 64 bit games. Starting with the public beta build of Steam that is available today, that issue is resolved.

You can opt in to Steam beta builds by going to Steam's settings>Account and clicking the "Change" button under the Beta Participation header. Select "Steam Beta Update" from the dropdown menu, hit OK and then hit the button to restart Steam.

As with any beta builds, you may experience bugs. I haven't run into any showstoppers in the time I've been running Steam betas, but your mileage may vary.

It doesn't happen often but sometimes it freezes for a second while loading a certain game which works fine on another day and gives BSOD. Sometimes it happens after I've loaded the game and am in the moment of playing. My hardware is more than enough for the games I run and I even run them on low-mid even though I can manage high settings. The games I usually run are CS:GO, League of Legends and Modern Warfare 3 [rarely play; received 1 BSOD while loading it]

OS: Vista is infamous for its constant annoyance to the user. This is somewhat unlikely, but it could be Vista slowing you down. I recommend upgrading to Win7 regardless.

Processor: The processor seems alright, so you're not having troubles there.

RAM: You may want to consider a RAM upgrade, as many applications (including games) do tend to stick around in memory until a restart. I'd have to say the lack of RAM is your issue. It shouldn't take much more, maybe another 1GB-2GB should fix it up.

Graphics: Nice graphics card, by the way. Beats mine ._.
AntiVirus: Well, the fact that you're careful on the Internet does NOT protect you from viruses. Not at all. I strongly recommend installing Avast! Also, I recommend installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and give your computer a nice scan with both of them.

It started yesterday when I attempted to launch a game (Civilization V) through Steam and got the BSOD error. I uninstalled and re-installed Steam, my graphics drivers, everything I can possibly think of, including a general fix Steam itself responded to me with (which was completely unspecific to my issue - they clearly can't be bothered), and I am to the point where I have asked for a refund for my games, because it is just that hopeless.

In a last ditch effort to get my computer straight, I downloaded BlueScreenView, and this is what it has told me; Mind you, there are multiple errors.

From this afternoon (before driver re-install and disc check):
- File names listed as issues: ntoskrnl.exe and tcpip.sys
I also had this issue last night

More recently (after all of my "fixes"):
- File names listed as issues: athrx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe (again)

Even in older crashes, ntoskrnl.exe has been listed as an issue, and I don't have enough knowledge of this sort of thing to have any idea what this means! Is there hope for me?

In continuation of my computer problems (previous issue: BSOD- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED while computer is running - Windows 10 Forums), now I am getting poor performance most of the time from all games 30-40fps in games which I previously got 60-100fps on same settings. There is little to no performance difference between different graphics settings. The poor performance isn't just noticeable in games, but also in normal use of the computer. Stuff like: selecting icons on the desktop, the blue rectangle that resizes is really laggy; dragging windows around my monitors; watching videos on YouTube from Chrome (especially putting in fullscreen and watching in 1080p+). The only time I get good performance is whenever the computer feels like it. There is no reason that I have found for when this happens.

OK, basically whenever I play a game (lately Dawn of War: Winter Assault if curious) in at most 20 minutes, my computer will either
a.) exit game and return to windows citing some error with game or
b.) restart citing error by 'unknown device driver' which is likely my video card.

As you can imagine, both are *highly* annoying. Same problem occured on previous system, which had:

Windows XP Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Soyo Dragon II plus MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM
Audigy II Platinum

and the new system:

Windows XP Pro
BFG 6800 GT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT <-same as previous
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM <-same as previous
Audigy II Platinum <-same as previous

ATI said it was obviously my fault, and BFG says it might be the card, but since it occured on two systems I can't see why. Could it be the memory/pentium/soundcard/harddrive?

Why would it randomly crash all the time? I can provide any more information as required to assist the diagnosis.

I'm a senior in Aerospace Engineering and damn do I need to relax after a long day of crappy homework, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been having a few problems with my laptop since I bought it. The problem mainly occurs when I'm playing a game (usually xcom: enemy unknown or deus ex HR at the moment) but has occurred when I'm browsing the internet (albeit far less often). The BSODs appear to be random but I'm using a blue tooth mouse and have noticed the BSOD will usually happened if I'm using it. We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. If empty (or non existent) please look in the following folders. C:\windows (the dmp should be called memory.dmp), and C:\windows\LiveKernelReports\Watchdog.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

For a few months now I've been having some problems with Windows XP's built-in support for the .zip file extension.

When I open an archive, I can use the "Extract All" function from the File menu, as well as highlight several files and choose the "Copy the selected items" option from the left-hand "File and Folder Tasks" side menu. For some reason though, I cannot simply highlight and drag, or right-click and choose copy(or press CTRL-C) to extract files(which I was able to do prior to this).

When I try these two latter methods, no file ever appears at the destination. I've tried using sfc /scannow but to no avail. I'm not really up for the idea of doing a complete re-install of OS, and am hoping that someone here can offer me some suggestions.

I wanted to come here and see if someone could help me decide what is needed for me to get my computer up to where I want it to be. Of course with least amount of money needing to be spent!I want to buy the new GTX 1070 but, I am not sure if I can get away with just buying that and not upgrading the rest of my rig. My video card went out that I originally had so now I have a replacement in there for the time being. Parts go as listed:*CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 @ 3.30 GHz         Max TDP: 65.0 W         Technology: 32 nm         Core Voltage: 0.960 V*Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Thank you,                  Mulshine

A:Computer Build Support

Your Video Card upgrade depends on if it will fit the internal dimensions of your case, if you have a power supply that supports the power demands of the video card and has the proper 12V molex connections. What games will you be running? so we get the whole picture of what you need for processing CPU/GPU power and RAM. The Core i3 might be plenty or a bottleneck depending on what your planning on running. A Core i5 would be a better start for a gaming rig with a powerful GPU, however the i3 might be enough depending on what game you plan to run.If this is a off the shelf computer such as a DELL, HP, etc please supply the Make/Model# ... if this is a custom built computer please provide all specs including internal case dimensions or case make/model used to look up dimensions as well as power supply make/model which will show if its a good quality trusted power supply or one that should be swapped out as well as if its heavy enough to carry the load. You mention you have a replacement video card in there now... what are you running as your replacement temporary solution? You also want to get by as cheap as possible... what is your budget?

Does anyone know of a third party build of robocopy or an alternate command line copy utility that has similar features but integrates Smart Copy for handling Junctions Symlink and Hardlinked files ?
I have several programs that use a unusual virtual filesystem architecture that relies heavily on hard-links. I generally use robocopy for backing up my data drive since it skips existing files and reduces the time it takes to copy the drive. the only problem is that i found out that robocopy corrupts these because junctions are copied as folders and hard linked files are copied multiple times i can exclude junctions however this means there are missing paths on the destination drive.
Right now i am looking for a command line utility that can function similarly to robocopy in that it supports mirror mode and will skip existing files but that includes a Smart Copy functionality so that junctions and sym/hardlinks are properly copied with their correct relations
Please respond soon this is a major issue for me as i currently have several directory structures which I cannot back up with my current tools

A:Robocopy Build or Alternative with Smart Copy Support???

Don't these programs have their own backup utilities? If I remember correctly, copying some of these links won't help with restoring on a new machine or disk as they refer to disk block address on the original hard drive.
If the software doesn't have its own backup routine, perhaps you could use image backup. I use R-drive image which can do automatic incremental image backups on a live system, so no need to remember to do anything. I've also used SyncToy and SyncbackPro, if you want a sync program, and I think these have command line versions if you find the GUI too easy and really like lots of typing...

Easiest way is to buy and install a network card if you don't have one. Then you can either use a hub or crossover cable to connect two machines which both have network cards.
I would go with a hub, may end up with more than two that want to join in.

I bought a Radeon HD 6870 from visiontek as an upgrade from my old
MSI R5450-MD1GD3H/LP Radeon HD 5450

And now i can't run any games. With my old Graphics card i could at least run Fallout NV on lower settings but with the new card as soon as i load my game it freezes at a black screen. other games that have the same problem Crysis, X3:TC, GTA:SA, Skyrim. the only games that have worked so far are flash games and when my little brother plays on roblox.
Any help would be Great.

A:New GPU won't run any games

Dude, I am having similar problems with the ASUS version of the AMD HD6970 none of the games you mentioned work on my computer, but I am not even getting as far as that. It would probably however be more helpful to the community if you gave the full readout of your system aka CPU OS etc.

A general fix that I usually do when something like this happens is to reinstall the graphics card drivers. my old 9800GTX stabbed me in the back continuously. However this may not work because it seems like your problem is direct X related. I have been considering attempting to reinstall direct X but that can get messy so I wouldn't do that until someone else has gone through the fancy shiraz with you. The drastic solution would be to do an OS reinstall and a drive wipe. However if my problem is related to yours as we are both using AMD graphics cards with similar drivers, and seeing as I just built my machine yesterday it would likely solve nothing.

In short I have no direct solution for you, but I think this is a good place to start for someone else to pick up the juice.

Can anyone tell me how to install the games please?

I've done it through the control panel and tried to turn the games features on but get an error message which says "an error has occurred, not all the features were successfully changed" and I just can't get past this.

Thanks so much

. A friend of mine has just bought a new Dell computer with Windows 8.1. She is disapointed there doesn't seem to be any games on it eg Titan and Chess like windows.Does anybody know where they are please?

open the Windows Store and search for free games. Browse through and download whatever looks fun, or do a search for a specific game in the store and see if it is available (might not be free though).

Hello all

I was wondering where to go to get some advice on how to get my games to run better and look better. I'm running several of the new games like unreal 2, Call of Duty, Halo. and some others.

Here are my specs:
P4 1.6 GHz with 768 MB of ram.
XP pro as the os
I have a Nvidia Gforce 2 mx. Under the location it says pci bus 1. Which is somewhat confusing to me since i thought it was an agp card.

Basically everything seems to run sort of jagged and the game-play seems to speed up and slow down sometimes. Overall I don't think the games look really good at all. I have adjusted my registry for the best possible gaming setting or at least I think I have. (done though the black viper site recommended by tech TV) But I have not done any type of other settings or configurations like over clocking or anything of that sort. (I just don't know how)

What my basic question here is. What can I do to make the gaming better on my machine? Is it my card? My ram? or something else that I don't know of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tons of computer games (over 300).

Many of my CDs are scratched. I want to burn some games so I have backups, but whenever I do, they don't work.

I am not asking to burn games for illegal purposes. I have never let anyone borrow a game and I am not burning to give away or sell. I am asking to burn my copyrighted games for BACKUP purposes only.
Oh yeah, I know this is my 2nd post in less than an hour, but you can delete the other one if you wish.

A:PC Games

I'll email you with some info...even though you're using it for backup purposes, Google caches the site quickly, and it could turn up in a search result for someone who isn't doing it legally.

Oh, and don't worry about making a lot of long as it's not the same question, it's OK.

Hi, I have an ATI Radeon HD 5740 and an Intel i7. I once was able to run games like APB: Reloaded, CS:GO and Warcraft III but now on all of those games I am unable to get a decent fps on, even on minimal settings.

Warcraft III, a very old game, I can run at maybe 15fps. APB I can run at about 40 fps which isn't optimal for gaming. CS:GO I run at around 90 but my friend who has the SAME EXACT PREBUILT COMPUTER AS ME (literally the same, we bought it from the same store at the same time) runs CS:GO at ~150fps. He is able to play APB just fine, very smoothly where as I cant. I checked out catalyst settings and they are both the same. I have no viruses, I have wiped my entire computer since this first happened and still no luck.

I recently cleaned out the dust from the innards of my computer too. whereas my friend has never cleaned his.

Wtf is going on? Is my card defective? Any input would be appreciated.
