Word Trimming Right Edge when Printed

Q: Word Trimming Right Edge when Printed

I have a problem with my Word documents. When I try to print them, the right edge is cut off. I thought it was my computer or my printer, so I took it to another computer, and the same thing happened.

The problem is in the files themselves. How do I change the files so they function as they used to? This has been the case with more than 20 files, which were made at different times.

My computer used to warn that the form I was using was too wide, and ask did I want to go ahead. I would select yes, it would print, and would look just fine. Now it does not ask that question.

Incidentally, another problem is that my files no longer end with .doc, but now say .rtf. All of my Word files changed in several ways at once.

I have a generic worksheet created from a Word Template (Bill of Lading Template if that helps) and I want to have the user enter input such as address to, PO #, CO #, Quantity of Pieces/Lbs, i.e. only certain boxes of the table. Once the user prints this form, I would like for it to clear only these certain boxes. Is there a macro I could create to do this? I created one so that it clears the boxes, but I am unsure if I can make one that automatically runs once I click print. Any help you can give is appreciated.

Thanks

A:Creating Macro in Word to clear worksheet one Printed

Hi, welcome to the forum.
If you already have a macro then all you need to do is trigger it once the sheet is printed.
You can do this by using an event.
I would have to look it up, but if you Google for Worksshet on event print then you need sometinh like AfterPrint .
I'll see if I can find something but you could try a search via Google and see what you can find too.

Just fopund this one ...

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, The record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.
Thanks,
Hash

When Im protecting a document in Word 2003 and allow exceptions, the exceptions have a grey box as a placeholder. This is printing out as faint grey lines on the printed version. Is there anyway to change the colour of the placeholder (it looks like a field) - or get rid of it entirely?

A:Protect document in Word 2003. Place holders showing on printed copy

Hi LoloPerth, welcome to TSG.

If the exceptions use the same shading that field codes do, it might work to turn off the field code shading. You can go to Tools/Options and change the dropdown box under Field Shading to Never. Let us know if that has any effect.

I have an old Dell XPS T600 standalone PC with a 600MHz cpu, 512mb ram running XP Pro without any service packs, updates, hotfixes, patches etc. There is no anti-virus on this machine because I only use clean media to take data off it, hence, why there are no service packs, updates or patches of any kind as far as I'm aware.This machine is used for keeping my self employed accounts on, using MS Excel. Hey does anyone one know of any good tools to find and delete any "fluff" Windows XP may have?

I'm trying to install windows on an old system. The HD is about 4 Gigs. Right now thats pretty much windows with all the updates.

A:Trimming the fat from Windows

Disk Cleanup will delete downloaded program files, temporary Internet files, items in your Recycle Bin and temporary files. Windows XP's version of Disk Cleanup also deletes offline Web pages and compresses rarely used files.

Click Start, (All) Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup. Select the drive you want to clean (it most likely will be C:) and click OK. Place a check mark next to the items you want deleted and click OK.

You also can remove Windows components that you don't use. Start Disk Cleanup and click the More Options tab. Click "Clean up" under Windows components. You can remove games, accessories and other nonessential Windows components.

The More Options tab also allows Windows XP users to clear old Restore Points. These files, which allow you to recover from errors after installing hardware or software, hog space over time. Just click the "Clean up" button under System Restore and then Yes.

Hi,

NB: This is not a thread discussing or advocating piracy or illegal actions, though it may initially appear so. Quite the opposite in fact.

I recently installed Tiny7, a stripped-down version of Windows 7 Ultimate x86. Turns out it allows me to run games at significantly greater frame-rates than my normal Win 7 Pro x64 install. However, it has several drawbacks:

1) I don't actually own a Win 7 Ultimate license. I do own a Win 7 Pro x64 license and a Win 7 Home Premium x64 license, however.

2) It comes from da interwebz, so could conceivably contain hidden nasties.

3) It doesn't seem to be compatible with quite a few of the updates available through Windows Updates, such as Internet Explorer 9

4) It's 32-bit, which renders much of my 8GB RAM on my Mac mini and much of the 6GB of RAM on my Mac Pro useless.

As a result, I've decided I'd like to create my own "Tiny7" using 64-bit copies of Windows for which I own legitimate and genuine keys. I'll need some help, though?

I have the list of changes made by the original Tiny7 "creator":

You are better off not doing this at all. Removing this stuff does not improve performance, the simple fact of having a clean install with no crapware is what allows it to perform better then a system that has been used and filled with crap.

I've just gotten started using Microsoft Movie Maker, although it seems pretty straight-forward, thankfully.

I've got a video segment that I'm adding a title to, and I've got the look and titles I want, but I want the title animation to end at a particular point, and not run through the entire pre-programmed animation. I figured that would be as easy as just trimming that clip, but in addition to "new user" trouble in fully understanding how to trim (or delete) clips or portions of clips, now I'm not even sure that you can trim an animating title clip. Can you? I figured it could be manipulated just like any other clip as to content, length, etc.

Well, that's question one and if anyone has any guidance on trimming clips that is seemingly any clearer than the Help topic info (although that actually seems pretty clear), bring it on.

Thanks

I?ve noticed that ?Optimise Drives? isn?t re-trimming my SSD during ?Automatic Maintenance? whether it?s run automatically during the daily scheduled maintenance or ran manually. I have my suspicions that it could also be connected to the fact that that Windows 8 Optimise Drives decided to perform a full defrag on the SSD right after installing the OS. Here?s the background:

I carried out a totally clean Windows 8 install last week and installed all Windows Updates, ran WEI, etc. I then manually ran Automatic Maintenance (Control Panel > Action Centre > Start Maintenance). During Automatic Maintenance, Windows decided to carry out a full 6-pass disc defragmentation on the drive, despite it recognising that it was a Solid State Drive (as you can see from the screenshot below).

http://s11.postimage.org/9yg3i2141/Untitled_1.jpg
I?m not sure why Windows decided to defrag the SSD, but as it only ran the one time I figured that maybe there was some reason for it. So, I set Optimise Drives to run daily and thought I?d keep an eye on it. The problem I have noticed is that Optimise Drives isn?t re-trimming the drive during Automatic Maintenance at all. I can however manually trim the SSD if I press the ?Optimise? button or if I run ?defrag c: /l? from the Command Prompt.

If you look at the below screenshot of Task Scheduler, it appears that Automatic Maintenance is triggering the scheduled defrag action OK and defrag is running as requested, it?s just not actually ... Read more

A recent thread on a Task Scheduler error got me looking at my own and looking for a way to list the scheduled tasks. Bummer. There doesn't seem to be a way to export or list them but I did find that you can display the Active tasks. (Not disabled, not expired) I would still like to find a way to list ALL tasks because over the years, I know I disabled a few I felt were extraneous at the time. And, over the years, I forgot what they were. So does anyone know a way to list all of them?

I stumbled across another MS extra "feature" that runs every 14 days that I think is useless to me so I disabled that one too. It's called Power Efficiency Diagnostics. It analyzes power usage over a 60 second period and produces a HTML report that tries to make you feel guilty about turning on your machine. I personally don't care how much power I use when the PC is on as long as it's fast and does what I want when I want. When I'm finished using it, I turn it off and do other work. And, I think there's a better use for the 18MB of disk space it uses on my SSD.

If you want to see your Power Efficiency report, navigate to here:
C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\Power Efficiency Diagnostics\energy-report.html

Oh yeah, if you want to see all Active tasks:
Click Start > Right Click Computer > Manage
Expand System Tools, click on Task Schedule
In the Center Pane, scroll to Active Tasks

A:Listing ALL Tasks and/or Trimming Entries in Task Scheduler

If you don't mind 3rd party:

CCleaner - Tools - Startup - Scheduled Tasks - Enable Advanced Mode

Checking the list, some etries seem to be missing in CCleaner (i.e., Diagnosis-Scheduled, Customer Experience ... - KernelCeipTask/UsbCeip). Can save to text file.

Spybot Search & Destroy has a Startup Tools module which shows Tasks as well.

I mean a program that can cut specific blocks out of almost any video file without having to re-encode all the data. Re-encoding stretches the time of the task considerably. VirtualDub can do this, but it only works with AVIs really. I convert files into a low quality AVI for usage on my MP3/Video player. Sometimes I want the file minus pieces of it (e.g. a TV show without commercials). The program I use (Format Factory) is good for conversion, but doesn't have a trimming function.

I download video files primarily in MP4 and FLV format, and I wanted to be able to cut them down before running them through the conversion process, rather than converting the whole file and cutting things down later in VirtualDub.

A:Is there a free video trimming program that works with all formats?

No. Many video files, like avi's, need to be re-encoded when something is cut out to recreate the index and the key-frames. You should be able to do most videos with VirtualDub and TMPGenc. A converter should help.

MPG's can be cut with any file cutter and have each piece still be playable.

I have come across a problem capturing Jumbo frames. I am capturing with nmcap on a 10G NIC in p-mode which is getting a mirror of traffic that includes Jumbo frames.

Nmcap works fine capturing but as soon a I add the /MaxFrameLength switch the capture start halting. That is, in the capture file there are long durations of time of no packets, from a few seconds to many minutes.
My workaround is to disable Jumbo frames on the NIC. With this config I get all the frames except Jumbo ones and I can trim with MaxFrameLength.
If anyone knows of solution to this problem I would like to hear it.

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, and I've been unable to solve this problem. Perhaps someone out there can provide some guidance.

Sometimes, I'm unable to print things (such as online coupons) because I'm told that my printer is set to "Keep Printed Documents." I've tried disabling this setting via the Advanced tab under the printer's properties. However, when I do this, click Apply then OK, and close the tab, the setting automatically reverts back to "Keep Printed Documents". Does anyone know why this is happening? It's sort of frustrating to not be able to set the printer settings the way you choose.

I appreciate any tips/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Originally, the pages on my HP DJ855C were printed as expected: page-1 first, then page-2, etc; this resulted with page-1 being on the bottom of the stack. Depending on the application being used, there was often a Print-Order option available for Back-to-Front printing so that the last page would be printed first and then page-1 would be printed last and be on the top in the stacker.

NOW, things seem to have reversed:
If I do NOT ask for the Back-to-Front, then I seem to get it anyway (i.e., page-1 last and on the top). but if I want the original order (i.e., page-1 first and on the bottom) then I must use the Back-to-Front option.
It seems as though the default has become Back-to-Front and then selecting the option for Back-to-Front re-reverses the order and the result is Front-to-Back.

Possibly this reversal happened when I went to Win/XP; possibly it happened with the installation of some piece of software.

Q. Has anyone else had this exxperience?

Please tell me where I might change some parameter to make the option of Front-to-Back actually print the page-1 first like it did originally?

Any advice apprecaited.

Thanks,,

A:Order of Pages Printed

Digger,

Go into your printers and faxes options off of your start menu.

Select your printer, right click the mouse and click on printing preferences.
On the features tab at the bottom there is a option for start printing from last page. If there is a check mark in the box next to it, click there with the mouse and uncheck it and then click on apply and ok and you should be all set after that?

Hi all,

Well not sure if this is the right area for this but not really sure what the problem is.

When I boot my PC during the bootup dos stage I hear my PC making noises, it still boots up Windows 7 ok but as soon as I open something I get continious R type accross my screen, If I hit the caps lock it changes from R to r.

Thought it was my keyboard having the R locked down so tried to fix it, no luck. Changed keyboards with my spare one no luck. Disconnect all keyboards no luck.

So where is this R coming from, its impossible to us my PC at the moment as soon as you click somewhere (word, exel, Google etc) an R/r appears.

Any ideas where to start?

The problem I am having is that when I go to print tax return forms from the IRS site or New York Tax Dept site, the form prints "short", that is, the last four or five lines of each page do not print.

You cannot save the data in these forms, they will only save as a blank form. Your only option is to print it.

However, although Adobe tells how to cure this problem ( by clicking File-Print and going down the menu which comes up to "printer scaling", then chosing "print to fit page", this only works if there is a
FILE menu on the left hand side of the page.

In these tax sites, the forms do not have a tool bar above allowing you to chose a FILE menu.
You can right click the mouse and chose PRINT, however it will print a cut off page.

SOOOOOOO ..how do I either:
1. Get a standard Tool Bar to appear on top of the form, on these web site pages, or
2. use some other device or method to print these documents to fit the page.

If any of you are about to suggest right clicking on the printer icon PRINTERS, in the control panel, forget it....my printer does not bring up anything about "Print Scaling".

Hopefully, some geek out there will read this and solve my problem. Thank you. 44 Guy

A:printed pages cut off at bottom

Every computerized tax form that I have seen...is available at the website of the sponsoring governmental agency...and reflects a printed version option which has resulted in everything being printed properly.

I'm not sure where Adobe figures into tax preparation.

If you are using a 3d-party app to do taxes...then the problem resides with the support for that application, IMO.

I'm new here!

First I would like to say I'm a TBI survivor and I'm a male and 42 years old .
I was purchased an emachine computer with a Lexmark lasar printer,
Whenever I go to print something, be it a web site article or a personal document that was created using Microsoft Works Word Processor. Whatever is being printed my name appears at the VERY top and the city and state printed at the bottom.
I know little about computers so I'm trying to get an answer why this is being printed.
The only thing that I can come up with is MY NAME, CITY and STATE was somehow entered on this computer's Hard drive and is prints it because it's been entered by someone at the store before iyt was brought home and set up for me.

If there is someway that I can delete this info. being printed, PLESE tell me what to do EXACTLY!

Thank You!
Chaz-62

A:I'm new her! Why is my name, town and state being printed?

That's very strange, it sounds like a 'Header and Footer' has been set up with that info and is in your normal.dot template. (If Works uses such a template, I know Word does).
Try doing a Find (or Search depending on your version of Windows) for normal.dot and rename any found to normal.old. Then test the printing again. If there is a problem you change the names back again.

I have searched to find an answer to this problem of faded pictures when printed from windows photo gallery. I have seen a few others having the same problem, but no solutions. I am hoping that someone now can help.

I can print pictures from other software on my computer, from the internet, etc, with great photo quality. When I print from Windows photo gallery they are very light and faded looking. I have made sure the adjustments are for my printer.

It seems that most of the people experiencing this problem had canon printers. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks

I have 3 print queues that are retaining the printed jobs in the queue and every now and again the damn thing prints all the job again. I have checked that the keep printed jobs button is NOT checked/selected, but the queue acts ilke it is selected to keep printed jobs. I have 125 printer queues and only 3 act like this and they are set up identical to the others. I have reconfigured this twice on all 3 and they still act like they are set to keep printed jobs in the queue.

Anyone seen this and know of a solution, on the Microsoft site I am seeing posts but not a single reply about how to either run a job to clear them out a couple times a day or fix this so they act as configured. To NOT keep printed jobs in the queue.

Other than dogging the print preview, and struggling with the size in any pertinent image editing software, has anyone found a reliable way to limit or control the size of a printed web document?
to wit:
I scanned an odd shaped document, 3x8" to email to myself at another site, and the printed form was big enough for two pages. What a waste.
I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve paper...it'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

A:Printer deletes documents before they are printed

G'day steviejay, sounds like you have an intelligent printer that is censoring your output!
That is a worry, I haven't seen that problem previously.
You might try having a look in your control panel, system, devices or device manager, with a bit of luck when you scroll down through all your devices you will find a USB printer, (assuming yours is usb) if you open that item you should see something like "this devise is working properly" which is a good start for troubleshooting.
There should be no yellow exclamation marks on this item.
Are you quite sure your print queue in the print manager is being actually deleted?
What kind of printer is it?
The assumption is that it is a PC using a windows variant.
Cheers, qldit.

I doubt that I can post this question here but I assume it'll be removed if not.

I have an HP printer, 2540, wireless printer. Works fine.

I started to print a pdf file. Because it was a large file I choose the 'booklet' option, which prints 4 pages on one side, then, when everything of the even numbers (I think, not sure) has printed, you will get a message on the pc telling you how to replace the already printed pages in the printer so it can print on the backsides.

When I saw the first batch I decided I didn't like it. So when the message with instructions on how to replace the already printed paper, I went in the printer's menu, highlighted the name of the document and did 'cancel'. In this printer menu it now said it was 'deleting' the document. But it didn't. I waited about half an hour. I turned the printer off and back on. I closed the document. But still the printer menu said 'deleting'.

I opened the document up again, changed the settings for the printer (as in one sided, normal size) and accidentally hit 'print'. I then noticed that - in the printer menu - the 'new' document showed up above the one that still said it was deleting. But it still didn't print. I went in the print menu again and highlighted the new document and did 'cancel' and it did cancel it.

But the old document is still sitting there, 'deleting'. I can not get past that. Any suggestions wo... Read more

A:Cannot delete partly printed document from cue

There's a way to force these to delete, if you don't mind a little typing. You need to open a command prompt by running cmd.exe. If you're unsure of how to do that, tell me which operating system you're using and I can walk you through that. This should open up a black window, and you need to type in the following commands sequentially, hitting the Enter key after each command.
net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\* /q /f /s

net start spooler
The first command stops the printing service, allowing you to carry out the second command, which deletes any jobs in the queue. The last command re-starts the printing service, and you can try running a test print. Once that's all done, you can just close the black window.

Hi

I suspect this might be a fairly common problem. Whenever I print there also seems to be a block of about 5 fine lines printed over the text for about ever new line of text. Now I recently bought a new (high capacity) cartridge which costs a fortune, so I'm not too keen to buy another if it is the printer (about 6 years old) which is the problem.

I've spent the last four hours trying to solve this/use info that's similar to my problem to no avail. I feel I'm so close I can smell the answer is near!

I have a form I use for work that I manually have to fill in 50 times a day with mostly the same information. This is definitely a job for a computer!

Ideally, I would like to open the spreadsheet and have a button that says 'Print' and it will print what I need - 50 forms with the right information.

So far I have done the following:

Created a custom page size (16cm x 14.7cm)
Scanned an original to use as a background so I can line up the information
Adjusted the Excel boxes to print the info in the right place.

Now I need to print the following number ranges as identifiers:

1 - 22, 29-42 and 51-54

I feel I'm close with using this macro:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforePrint(Cancel As Boolean)
[copy] = [copy] + 1
End Sub

I use both Excel 2003 and 2007, depending on where I am!

I have NO experience of macros until today, so any advice is very welcome.

Regardsm

Jeff.

I have had my problem for some time and had a work around which is no longer applicable hence I get a white screen where message should be so I don't know what is being said.

My problem started about 6 or 8 months ago on Outlook Express. At that time I was using dial up and changed over to Earthlink.net with their e mail program Total Access. My problem immediately disappeared. One month ago I switched over to High Speed and the person doing the custom install saw I used Outlook Express so he reenergized (non computer word) the program. The custom installer saw my INBOX with about 30+ messages that go back a long way. EACH ONE LINE description was complete, meaning To: xxx,
From: YYY, Subject: ZZZ, and anything else that showns on the ONE LINE.

When I double click on one of the inbox messages I FIND MY PROBLEM! Everything that showed before is shown again, but now greyed out since it has to do with basics. HOWEVER, the text area (where the message should be) is 100% pure white. I have double clicked all 30+ messages and get the same thing,...a pure white screen.

I thought it might have something to do with installing SP-2 on my XP Home Edition BUT SP-2 was installed about 6 months ago and my e mail problem started about 8 months ago.
That is my problem! Can anyone offer suggestions?

A:No Outlook Express Messages Are Printed

Hi George-2

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

So if I understand correctly, you can send and receive emails ok.

The problem lies in that the messages you receive are blank inside?

If you run your mouse over the inside of the message, does anything show up in the highlighted/selected area?

Perhaps your fonts have a white color?

Are you able to create a new message and see the fonts inside?

Let us know.

I have printed photos from e-mails before, but never had a problem with moire patterns. This time I have a fine vertical line pattern that is not clearly seen unless you have glasses on that magnify them. Unfortunately, I wear glasses that bring them out. What can I do to prevent or get rid of the moire? Any ideas? Thanks, lilart

A:Moire from printed e-mail photos

It likely just a matter of the resolution of the email derived image vs the resolution of the printer. Does it happen with every image or just the lower resolution ones from the emails?

Three days ago when I tried to print from the web and then WORD there was no installed printer. I checked and the printer was still installed but when printing a document the print screen said their was no printer installed. I checked and the print spooler was not working. So I downloaded the Microsoft tool MicrosoftFixit.Printing.Run.exe. I ran it and presto the printer worked but only once and when I went to print again, again the print box showed that there was no printer installed. So I have to run the Microsoft.Fixit.printing.run.exe tool every time I want to print a page then restart the computer. A royal pain and time waster.

Something is turning the spooler off and not allowing individual programs to see the installed printer and therefore reports that there is no installed printer.

2nd issue. this is a new laptop (ACER) and there is no LED light to show "Caps Lock". I did find a setting that flashes the screen and makes an audible beep. However, my wife has the exact same computer and hers has a 2" x 2" box appear each time she puts cap Lock on. Which is way less distracting than audible beeps and flashing screens. Is there a setting for this? I have not found one in the Microsoft website for Windows 7.

Help,
yarlac

The HP 4500 Envy all-in-one printer is new, replacing a defunct Canon Pixma. I received an electronic 1099 form, and printed it from my Foxit Reader program. To my dismay, the printed form was obscured by black bars in 4 places. These do not show in the print preview, and after experimenting for some time, I can find no setting that accounts for the problem. I went online and tried reprinting the 1009 form from last year. The same problem occurred, but my hard copy in last year's records ? printed from Foxit but using the old Canon ? did not have the offending black bars. So far this is the only pdf with which I have a printing problem, but the fact that it occurs with the same form for two different years is puzzling and annoying. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

A:Black bars on printed pdf witih HP 4500e

Considerable time online with HP support which included remote access to my computer was unable to resolve this issue. The tech seemed to believe that it was related to the site hosting the 1099, even though the same form had printed without problem from my previous printer. If the problem develops on any other form/pdf, I will have to explore this further. For now, however, printing the screen capture of the pdf will suffice.

I have a gradebook that is very different from traditional gradebooks. Each class is a separate file and then each student has their own worksheet so I can individually track their proficiency on a variety of tasks (By all means tell me if this is stupid and recommend an easier way). When I want to print out a students gradebook sheet for a conference, how do I get their name (which is on the tab, to print with the printed page?

Thanks

A:How do I get Worksheet tabs to print when sheet is printed?

Hi,

A short answer ...
Code:
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.CenterHeader = ActiveSheet.Name
A question though ... would it be somewhat effective to loop through all sheets in a file and do this? Also, how about looping through all files in a folder and doing this? Would it not be easier to do them all at once, or is this a 'one-shot deal'?

Also, btw, you can do this with LeftHeader, RightHeader, LeftFooter, CenterFooter & RightFooter. Other format attributes can also be added if desired.

When I print I am getting a blank page between each printed page. Even if my document is one page it prints a blank page after it. I can also print a selected page, as in "print page 2" but it still prints a blank after it. The blank page does not show up on the preview.

I have a HP Deskjet D1300 and am running Vista Home using Word 2007. Is it a printer problem or a Word 2007 problem? Any suggestions?

A:Getting un-wanted blank page between printed pages

I think you may have the printer set to print separator pages.

Look around in your printer properties (Control Panel>Printers>Printername>>Right Click>Properties) and disable.

I wanted to extend my Eventlog (Event Trace for Windows) by an additional component where I just want to log strings. I am using code like the following one.
#include <Evntprov.h>
#include <evntrace.h>
#include <minwindef.h>

// {38F4122A-4D8C-465A-9EFC-F7E632A84ABF}
static const GUID MyApplicationGuid = { 0x38f4122a, 0x4d8c, 0x465a, { 0x9e, 0xfc, 0xf7, 0xe6, 0x32, 0xa8, 0x4a, 0xbf } };

REGHANDLE regHandle = nullptr;
EventRegister(MyApplicationGuid, nil, nil, &regHandle);

EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"Hello");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L", ");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"world");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"!");

EventUnregister(regHandle);

I already have registered a provider with the given guid that shows up correctly and those events are part of the etl logfiles as generic events. To this point everything seems to be fine but when I want to add the message as a column I am not capable to
see the logged strings because they are stored in a binary payload element.
Is there a way to define an event/template to format the traces done with EventWriteString into a message string. Something like "%1"? (There is already a Header Flag STRING_ONLY set.)

In Vista, one print job (the last) on a Lexmark will not delete from the queue. No new print jobs will print out. If there are more jobs created, they add up in the queue. I'm trying not to uninstall and reinstall, this has happened frequently with this printer, albeit with an inexperienced user. Please help. TIA

I have a cannon mp210 all in one printer,scanner. When placing actual photos into the machine to be scanned then printed they come out perfectly fine but when I try to print pictures already imported onto my computer they come out very faint/light. The computer keeps saying the ink levels are low which is incorrect as I have just put in new ones. I beleive this is a issue to do with the colour settings installed on windows 7 as our pictures print out fine when the printer is connected to our lap top. If anyone could help me with changing the colour settings that would be great. Thank you

Hi, one of my clients is using the Epson ex 330 dot matrix printer on a windows xp sp 2 machine. Now this printer stopped working on this machine since the 24 pin port on the motherboard got spoilt. So I tried to connect this printer to this machine using a USB to parallel port converter. Now the thing is that the printer is added but when I try to give a test page print or any other print the print spooler shows 1 doument printing. But within 3 seconds it disappears and prints nothing with no error message. Another thing is that this printer used to run on the Epson LX 800 driver since there is no EX 300 driver is the default drivers list. And now I have added it on the same i.e LX 800 driver. But I don't think this should be any sort of problem. Expert help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi All,

I dont know if i've got this in the right forum but i've got a WinXP Pro Machine so thought i'd try it here.

The problem is that my print queue seems to retain the print jobs although the print jobs have already been printed out (i've seen it retain jobs from 5 days ago). I happens from all sorts of programs.

My PC is acting a print server (ie, the printer is connected to my PC via Parallel and i have shared my install of this printer).

In the print queue, the status indicates "sent to printer" and Pages "x/x - eg 3/3" however the print jobs remains in the queue and do not disappear unless i manually do a "cancel". If i were to turn off and then on the PC, all these print jobs will print out again without any user interaction.

So, can anyone tell me if this is a driver issue or is it something to do with the printer or Parallel port configuration.

As far as i know, i've got "bi-directional support" selected but i'm still to find out what modes i've got parallel set to eg. EPP or ECP or both.

Any help would be great. thank you.

regards
Steve

Hi all,

This should be an easy one, but I've been banging my head against it for a week. I'm hoping I've just been looking at it to closely and someone can take a look from a different perspective, smack me on the back of head, call me an idiot, and point to the obvious solution.

I'm trying to fix a home network. It consists of one desktop computer, two laptops, and a printer. The desktop is attached to the router by a cable, and has the printer, which is shared, and the laptops are wireless. Everybody is running Windows XP Pro, and this is Lexmark Z45 inkjet.

The problem is with printing. It worked until about a week ago, but now when the laptops send a job to the printer, it just sticks in the queue with the status of printing. The desktop can print, so it doesnt seem to be the printer. The laptops can see the printer, they can connect to the printer, they can send jobs into the queue, but then they just sit there.

Ive reinstalled the printer on the desktop and the laptops, Ive downloaded new drivers, Ive restarted the services, Ive attached to the share using the computer name as well as just its IP address, Ive made administrator accounts on the desktop using the same username and password as the laptops use, Ive made a separate printer account on the desktop and connected using that, and theyre in the same workgroup.

Im working on the assumption that has something to do with share permissions, so if anyone has any suggestions I ... Read more
