pdf page numbers don’t match document page numbers

Q: pdf page numbers don’t match document page numbers

I have some reference books I use and in all of them I have this problem:

The number written on the document pages doesn't match the number my pdf reader says, and for every document it has a different offset. That is, for example when I go to page 16, then on the page itself it's written that it's page 5 and not 16.

It's an annoying problem.
Is there any way to fix this by changing the pdf numbering or is there any workaround?

In Word 2002, I have a form letter that I merged the name and addresses. The problem is the number of pages in the footer. Using Page x of y, the page number is correct, each section restarts the page number. But the number of pages is the entire document, not just the section of the merged record.

Is there some way to make it so page numbers display on the printed pages of an Adobe .pdf file? I converted a Word document to .pdf, but the Word document did not have the numbered pages. I now want to add the numbers in Adobe Reader, but it looks like I'll have to go back to the original Word document, add headers which include the page number, and then re-convert it to .pdf. Is that correct? If I could do it within Adobe Reader, that would be preferable.

The file is a creation from an original Word file, the page numbers would need to exist in the Word file.

It would be a nightmare if in creating a PDF it was able to assign new printed page numbers as these would often not align with the original document and TOC's would be incorrect.

I am printing a Microsoft Word 2007 document and the numbers are cut off at the bottom of the page. This is using an HP7100 inkjet. Part of the footer is lost as well.

When I change the printer, and print from our Canon ir2018 LASER, everything is printed in its entirety. There are no problems, and that's with me not altering the Word file whatsoever.

I am able to print an Excel spreadsheet using the HP7100 until about 1/4" of the bottom of the page. These page numbers in the Word 2007 are much higher up (physically) and should not be out of the range of the printer considering what it can do for the Excel file.

Lastly, when viewing the document in "Print Preview" in Word, if I have the HP7100 set to print, it does not show that the footer will be printed. If I change the Printer to the Canon, the footer returns. So Print Preview accurately tells me what will be printed based on which printer I select to print from.

Is this an issue in Microsoft Word? How can I print these footers and page numbers from my HP7100?

Alright...two issues here. #1: I have my document split into sections, and I can't figure out how to delete page numbers from just one section, even though all the help information I read says I should be able to. "Page numbers are section specific not document specific". #2. Assuming I can resolve issue #1, is there anyway to delete page numbers from just one or two pages within a section without splitting the document into more sections?

Hi Mathias,
I suspect that your problem with deleting page numbers from just one section is that the page numbers are contained in the footer and the footer for each section is set to "same as previous". To check, place your cursor somewhere in the section for which you want to delete the page numbers. Go to View/Header and Footer. On the Header and Footer toolbar, click the toggle button for "Switch Between Header and Footer". The top of the footer box should say Footer-Section # on the left. If it says "Same as Previous" on the right, click the "Same as Previous" button on the toolbar to unlink the footer for this section from the previous section. You should also go to the next section's footer (if any) and deselect the "Same as Previous" button. Return to the footer for the section in which you want to delete the page numbers. You should now be able to highlight the page number and delete it without affecting the prior or subsequent sections.

As for your second question, I'm unaware of a way to delete page numbers from select pages within a section. Someone else might have some ideas though.

I looked through the site but didn't see a similar question. I use Windows 7, Firefox, and Word 2003. I have used Page numbers for some years but suddenly, starting yesterday, the number will NOT appear on the top, right side of the page. When I choose top of page, right side the number appears on the top LEFT side. Two days ago I finished a manuscript with no problem, 118 pages, and the numbers appeared on the top, right side. Yesterday I printed out Chapter 1, four pages, numbers where they should be. Today I started with Chapter 2, page 5, but it will NOT appear on the right side. I don't know what I did to make this problem come about. Any suggestions?

O.K., my problem is solved. I went online and asked the question and the solution is a combination of several approaches. When Insert brought the page number up on the left side, I brought up Header/Footer, highlighted the number on the left side, clicked on CTRL + R, the number zipped to the right, I clicked Save, and it works. It's a pain, but that's the only my manuscript looks the way I want it. Thanks.

Good morning (to those of you in the western hemisphere).

In MS Word, when I insert page numbers into a doc, and look in print view, I can see the numbers (in light gray) at the bottom of the page. But when I print the document, NO NUMBERS?

If that works, you may want to do it in a plain document, then hit the "default" button. Many printers, particularly those we use at home, aren't capable of printing that close to the bottom of the page.

The task handed me was to clean up this document the text from an out of print book. The intent is to publish the document as a PDF booklet. What I have are pages in letter size. There are two obstacles I need help on.

The first are the page numbers on every page. I have Googled 'removing all page numbers from a word 2007 document' and there are many suggestions - and though I have attempted to use all those tips I am unable to remove the page numbers. I have attached a few pages in the hope that there is a remedy.

Secondly I need to adjust the pages so that the fit to what was the original book text page size: 5.5 x 8.8
It's not to be exact rather that the final PDF document should look and read as the original in a 5.5 x 8.8 presentation.

If there are comments to assist in the project I will be most grateful. Thanks!

A:Removing all page numbers and then some...

Your source document has a lot of strange formatting in it. I would start by selecting all the text (Ctrl-A), creating a new blank document, then Paste Special>Unformatted Text. This will remove all the section breaks and so on.

It will probably also remove the page numbers, which in your source document are inserted as images in the footers. To check, go to Insert>Header & Footer>Footer>Remove Footer.

Than set the page size in Page Layout>Size>More Paper Sizes...

This should get you most of the way there. When it looks the way you want it, Save As...>PDF.

have just installed Office XP on a PC and it has stopped displaying the correct page number.

Normally in the bottom left hand corner it shows you what page you are currently on, but on mine it always says Page one.

Have i missed something here?

I can think of two things to try.

The first thing would be to go to Tools -Options in word and look at the view tab. Uncheck the Status Bar and click on OK. This will turn off the status bar. Now try turning it back on and seeing if it helps.

Second thing I can think of is to try repairing Office. Just use the add/remove in the control panel. When you go to remove it, you will get the option to repair, uninstall or change features.

After loading the Word 2000 SR-1 disk, I am unable to insert page numbers [I get a footer that states (PAGE)] and the former blue hyperlinks are now in black and state {hyperlink and the web address}. I am writing a thesis and this is causing great stress!

Before loading the disk I had no problems.

Why does {PAGE}, {DATE}, or another code appear in the header or footer?
When you add page numbers, dates, times, and so on to a header or footer, Word inserts fields for these items. Fields ensure that page numbers are automatically updated as you change the document and that dates, times, and other items are updated when you print the document. If you see field codes such as {PAGE} or {DATE} instead of the actual page numbers, dates, times, and so on, press ALT+F9.

I use Word 2000. The other day while working in a document I accidently hit something on my keyboard and suddenly my page numbers were all shaded gray, the same shade as the gray color on the outside margins of the document (so maybe they just have square holes!).

I tried playing around with the formatting options for page numbering but nothing works. I can't get rid of it. Every document I open now, even ones that were already saved, now has gray shaded page numbers.

Can anyone help? It's very annoying!

I have to print out an assignment I've done in Excel and Word, which includes both portrait and landscape pages.

The whole assignment will be bound in a portrait orientation, so all landscape pages will be sideways (i.e reading bottom to top).
The pages have to be numbered, which is easy enough to set up, although the landscape sheets (Excel) will print the page number at the foot of the sheet, which will appear as the right hand side when it is bound.

I need the numbers to print at the landscape sheets' left hand side (and side-on), so that when I bind them, each page has a page number appearing at the bottom of the sheet in the same place. Does this make sense?

I know I could print blank sheets with the page numbers at the foot in a portrait orientation and then put the paper back in the printer and print the landscape stuff without page numbers (!), but isn't there a way to make Excel do this for you?

Before I run to get a copy of WordPerfect, perhaps somebody can enlighten me as to why, after installing the SR-1a update of MS Office 2000, Word still refuses to print page numbers, either by the insert "method" or by the headers&footers "method"? The printer driver is the latest provided by the OEM, and LPT/ECP settings are OK. Increasing the footer size did not work either.

I'm having a terrible time trying to get different page number formats onto my report due today.

The format required is bottom of the page centered:

First page - no number (title page)
Second page - i (executive summary)
Third page - ii (table of contents)
Fourth page - 1
Fifth page - 2
Sixth page - 3
and so on to the end

I've tried various section breaks but it's not working. Would anyone be willing for me to email this to them for a quick fix? Thanks in advance

Create three sections by using a Next Page section break after the first and third pages. To have page 2 start with an "i" use the "Start at:" option in the Page Number Format dialogue box. Ditto to have a "1" starting on the fourth page.

I have: Word 2002; XP o.s.; Epson 880 printer.

I like to have page numbers centered at bottom of pages. Problem is the numbers fade out at the very bottom of the numbers -- that is, at the bottom of 1 and 2 and 3 etc.

I have creatde a report, no problem there, but the following occurs.
Ik have a formula that works perfectly:
= [Page] & " van " & Round((([totaal]-44)/61)+0.5,0)+1
I reset the Page to 1 for each group.
The variable [totaal] contains the number of lines for this particular section:
It's a list of student numbers and the exams they have taken over a number of years
Each exam code is one line.
I have a query which is a select distinct Student number and counts the number of exam codes.
000001 56
000002 67
000003 130
etc etc
The list is about 3000 student numbers.

The formula then displays the Page 1 of 3 in the case of 67 lines

That works fine too.
I run the report and at first glanec it's OK.
I go to the last page, no problem
Then flip back page by page and someweher isn the middle and not for all selectiones instead op showing Page 1 of X it starts showing Page 2345 of 3 where 2345 is the actual page if counting pages.

I have checked the query and there are no negative numbers in the TOTAAL field and well, thats the problem there is nothing logical to make this happen.

I have attached some screenshots on a PDF sheet showing page numbers in one set or pages.
This report I reduced to 132 pages and still it happens.

I was wondering if anyone knows how I might have MS Word automatically put page numbers in each column on a page. I am producing a document that has each "page" take up half of a landscaped 8.5x11 page, i.e.: the page is landscaped and folded in half, page one would be on the left, and page two would be on the right. I have a template document in Word 2007. It has a TOC and when I update the TOC, the page numbers go from 2 to 11. However, whenever I open the template, which causes it to open as Document1, the TOC page numbering resets to 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, . . . .

ALL my "chapters" are in the same Heading style, there are no section breaks anywhere in the document, and the "open e-mail attachments in full screen reading view" box is unchecked in Word options. Please help.

One of the last things I have to do with this layout is number the pages. I've got them auto-numbered, however, it won't let me move them or reposition them around the page. The numbers refuse to be selected with the Selection Tool. Help!

Basically, all the paging is messed up. In addition, there is some sort of formatting issue. Here are the problems:

1. After copying and pasting like a half page from another document, word generates page of blank space. This blank space does not go away despite backspacing or highlighting and then back spacing. So in the document, there will be page-long blank spaces here and there. Very annoying.

2. After inserting page numbers (with default format settings), some of the page numbers don't show up.

3. So I tried deleting all page numbers and re-inserting new ones (again, default format settings), the format gets messed up further. For example, sometimes, the top of a page would have 19 and on the bottom of the same page, it would have 20.

4. So I tried deleting and re-inserting again. This time, all the pages turned to "1"s.

5. Also, on the bottom left corner of a Word Document, it usually displays the page info: "Page X Sec Y X/Z", where X is the page user is currently on, Z is the total number of pages in the document, and Y is the section number. Problem is, the Xs don't match. So when I click on say page 45, it would show this "Page 45 Sec Y 59/211".

I have been making gifts-in-a-card where I need to have 2 page numbers on a sheet, with 7 sheets in total with doubled sides. (Just putting them in a textbox at the bottom wasn't a solution because they would move very easily if any other text were added or removed.) In using WP2000 I had no problem putting the right numbers on a page*, but I found that the text had a tendency to move...from the time that I proofread the screen and pressed on the print icon. This was VERY maddening! Some of the text that was on the first sheet would move down to the second page and I would have to print it all over again. That wasn't noticable until I looked at the hard copy, and having printed out a dozen sheets sometimes it was frustrating and expensive!

I could not find any way to put in the numbers on a page I needed with Ms Word 2000, although I found out that if I could it would be much simpler. Now that I have MS WORD 2003 I thought I had the the solution to my problem because I can have 2pp per sheet with that software. But unfortunately it only went so far. I could put in numbers 1-4 but not in the order I needed them* Do you know of any way that I can place 2 different numbers (not in sequence) on the bottom of a page in the MS WORD 2003 software before printing it?

A:Putting 2 different *page numbers when there are 2 pp per sheet.

If you select "Book Fold" instead of "2 pages per sheet" in page set up, Word 2003 should get the page content sequence correct on each side of each sheet.

If you simply want a page number at the same location at the top or bottom of each page, put it in the header or footer in your document and then have automatic entry of the correct page number in the header or footer. Word gives you the option to have different headers and footers for odd and even pages.

If you want the page number in some other location, like in an outside margin, put a text box on each page with its location locked relative to the edges of the page or the margins and then select text wrap for the body text as need be. You can either manually put the text of the page number in each text box or put a field code in for the page number. Any changes in the body text will flow around the test boxes but the boxes themselves will not move on the page.

OK, let me give this some more detail. Whenever I go to Insert, add page number, it adds a page number to ALL the page numbers. For example, when I type a one in Page 4, I get an f'n 1 in every page. I want to smoothly be able to add 1 page number in one page and not affect the others. This is because the first page is the title and the other 2 are the table of contents which DON'T need a page number. Thanks in return.

I have a very long document. I want to condense it to as few pages as possible, but I want the page break lines and pages numbers to show as well. (I want to be able to know which page I'm on even though the document has been reduced for printing purposes.)

I have documents like this from other people, but I can't figure out how to print them that way myself. The one I have is 460 pages, but has been condensed onto 90 pages when printed. The page breaks appear when I print and I can see the original page numbers as well.

If you want to control bandwidth, you will need one of two things. A more expensive router that can do bandwidth limiting or you could setup a Proxy server that can do it. Squid Proxy can do it but you probably will not be able to figure out how to install it because it is Linux based. So this may be a better solution for you.

Im having a problem with page numbering in Word 2003. In a document with several sections the page numbering is some sections doesnt begin with page #1. For example, the last page of section 5 appears as, 5-10 which is correct. Unfortunately, the first page of section 6 begins, 6-11 instead of 6-1. Ive tried to format the numbers in the footer by selecting "Start at" page #1 but to no avail. Even when I do this it automatically reverts to 6-11

Running a document comparison that contains an automatic paragraph numbering scheme as well as a typical footer with a centered page number. Both documents are set up the same way. When Deltaview is run the changes show up just fine BUT it puts 2 page numbers in the footer and the automatic paragraph numbering disappears. Can't find any information regarding this. It's Word 2003. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks for the information from a previous (now closed) thread on how to format a booklet! Made it easy to create. My booklet has a cover, blank page, then my booklet information. Although this is page 3 in reality, I want it to show as page 1 since I don't want the cover or blank page to be numbered. I have an Excel workbook that prints many pages. With this workbook, after the 7th page I insert pages from a different program, and then the rest of the Excel workbook pages follow.

The Excel workbook is actually 20 pages long.

I need a way to create a macro that will insert 1 of 20 pages on the first seven pages of the Excel workbook pages. Then since 2 pages from another workbook will be added before the other 13 Excel pages, I need the numbering to reset to show 10 of 20.

Does this make sense? Can this be done?

I have a user who has a document that is split into sections.
For each section she wants the pages numbers to show page x of y.
For example Section 1 is 20 pages she wants it to show page 1 of 20 page 2 of 20 etc.
This is working on screen. When she prints the document and we have had others try as well the page numbers show Page 1 of 1 page 2 of 2 page 3 of 3 and all the way to 20.

I don't understand why this will show correctly on screen but not printed.
Any ideas???

Whilst editing some work I'd done I suddenly found the whole text had been underlined. I managed to sort this but the page numbers remain underlined in black and I can't find a way to clear this. I know I can probably remove all the numbers then put them back but the first two pages of my work are number free and I want them to stay that way. it was too much hassle removing the numbers from those two pages for me to want to do it again!

I'm using Word 2007 with Win7 and my browser is FF. Can anyone give me an easy solution please? Plus a reason for this?

Since no-one here seemed to know the answer I just kept on searching and finally found the solution. By pressing Control/U twice it will remove all unnecessary underlining. Simple when you know how!

Someone at my work has done something to his defaults in Word. Whenever he creates a document, page numbers appear automatically in the header. You can go in and manually delete them of course, but how do you fix the default settings?

He uses a Mac, btw, if that makes a difference.

You can go to View/Tools/Pages. On the right, select the Header & Footer dropdown and choose Add Header & Footer. In the Center Footer text box (assuming that's where you want it), type A-<<1>> and click OK. That should add the pages in the format you want. Hope that helps.

Trying to convert a manuscript from MS WORD to Adobe Acrobat. Had 6.0, but had problems with "ghost fonts." Adobe tech support people advised me to update to 8.0, which I did, but now THE PDF FILE WON'T RECOGNIZE PAGE NUMBERS, no matter what preferences I use. Even Acrobat tech support hasn't been able to help!! (After 4+ hours on line with them). Anyone know how to solve this??

I'm running Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007. My word will not let me insert page numbers.

In the insert tab when I click on "Page Number" on the toolbar only page number design is available under "Top of Page". That one available page number design is a d. If I do insert it all the pages will have the letter d on them (all d's no matter how many pages).

This is what I have tried:

1a - Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
2a - Click Add-Ins.
3a - In the Manage list, select Disabled Items, and then click Go.
4a - Click Building Blocks.dotx, and click Enable.
Restart Word.
When I do this there is nothing to select in the Manage List box (3a) so I'm not able to move onto 4a

In the insert tab clicking on "Page Number" and "Format Page Numbers" to make sure that the number format is selected which is was.

Uninstalling Windows and reinstalling it in a new location.

Tried installing it on my sisters computer to see if it would work. It did . . . perfectly. She has a Gateway and is running Vista. I have a HP and am running XP. So why does it work on hers and not mine? I'm stumped!

Page insert is a very handy & I miss it greatly. Tried everything I know to try & am super frustrated at this point. If anyone has any answers I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

just got the new HP Deskjet 3050A wireless printer installed this weekend. everything works great, love the printer so far.

just for the life of me can't figure out where to turn of printing of the url, document name, and page numbers? i used to be able to find this stuff easy but this new wireless printer is a little different, i've already tried looking through the advanced printer settings in the control panel.

I found this on Google ages ago but have since forgotten and cannot find it again.
I have a word document with both landscaped and portrait sections in it. The page numbers are set-up to be in the bottom centre, which is ok. But, when I bind the document in portrait, the landscaped pages will have their page numbers on the right hand side, which is no good. What is the answer?
I think I can delete the numbers on the landscaped pages (but I don't know how) and then add rotated autotext as page numbers instead, on the left hand-side. Then when bound it will be ok.
Any ideas anyone?

I am creating separate documents that when printed will be put together to make a document.The problem I am having is with a document file that is located in the middle of the booklet that has two pages. When I set the page number on the first page(page 6) the second page shows as the same number. Is there a way to correct this and enter numbers that begin on the first page that aren't 1 and have the pages labeled in order after their number(7,8,9) using Word 2007?As well, since I am dissecting this conundrum, is there a way to be able to manually input the page numbers so that I choose which page is labeled what?

I've written a book and I'm having a bear of a time with getting the page numbering to work properly. Here's what I have:

Section 1

i Title page - page number on the right, which is correct
ii Copyright page - page number on the left, which is correct

Section 2 (needed to keep the table of contents starting at i)

i Table of contents - page number on the right, correct
ii Table of contents - page number on the left, correct
iii Table of contents - page number on the right, correct
iv Acknowledgements - page number on the left, correct
v Introduction - page number on the right, correct

Section 3

*** After this point all page numbers are on the left side. So all even pages are incorrect.

Page 1 - on the left, which is correct
Page 2 - on the left, which is incorrect
Page 3 - on the left, which is correct
Page 4 - on the left, which is incorrect

If I try to change Page 2 to have the page number on the right side it fixes page 2 and every page after, but it causes all the pages prior to Page 2 (the roman numeral pages) to now be on the right which means all even pages are incorrect.

I have a form that is one page in size and I am wondering if I copy it on say 100 successive pages so that there 100 pages of the the same form, can I do an "x of y" it a specific location within the form so that the rest are automatically numbered?

What I have now is a single form that has this: Item number 1 of 100. Now I have to print 100 of these out, but I don't want to change the number each time manually to 2 of 100, 3 of 100 etc. So as I said, I want to copy the same form 100 hundred times and enter some kind of numbering fuction or formula that will enter the next sequential number automatically on each form on the pages that follow.

Is there a way to do this in Word. I don't want to use headers.

I am using batch manager in Omnipage Professional 17 to convert batch of PDF files to text files using Omnipage.

Now the problem is i want to add some indicator specifying page numbers to separate different pages of PDF files in my text file.

I have a client who will be doing a lot of scanning, and he said that he would like a multi-function printer that prints page numbers on each scan for multi-page scans. I have never heard of this, nor do I think it exists. However, I would love to be pleasantly surprised.

Here is what he would like in a multi-function laser printer (he does a lot of B&W printing and scanning):

Heavyduty scanner (tray for letter and tray for legal)
Capacity to scan up to 500 page documents with autofeeder
Laser printing B&W
Wants to have it collate the pages
Printer should print page numbers on scans that have multiple pages

Step 1: Use what you have already described to insert page numbers as a header.

Step 2: Click on View.

Step 3: Select header and footer.

Step 4: Left click on the page number so that a little grey box contains it.

Step 5: Scroll over the little grey box containing the page number so that you get the icon that lets you move a selected item. The icon looks like the xy-axes from algebra.

Step 6: Hold down the left mouse button and move the page number to any place on the page you want it, even outside of the header. This will affect all page numbers on all pages. When the page number is where you want it, release the left mouse button.

Step 7: Close the header and footer box.

When I send an email that has a Word 2003 document attachment with a Table of Contents, the page numbers in the Table of Contents all change to the same number even though I have about 10 pages in the document. I am opening the document from within Outlook. Strangely I am able to Ctrl click on each 'same number' and link to the correct page. I'm using Outlook 2003 for email.

Note that I have refreshed the Table of Contents before sending the document.

Hope someone can help. I don't want to send out proposals with the Table of Contents looking so wrong.

I have a bit of a question that I am hoping someone can provide an answer to...

I currently have an excel macro in place that I use to print off a monthly report. However that report consists of multiple worksheets and files. I have now been asked to apply page numbers to the report.

I have tried the basic way: print it all out, then put it back in the printer and double print the page numbers on it. However, simple in theory, but not when all the paper gets munched up by the printer. DOH!

So I'm wondering if there is some code I could put into my macro that will get it to print a page number onto the page and a consectutive page number on the next printout.

If anyone has a solution to this, I would be VERY grateful!

I'm just curious to know why the product key that came with my computer and the one I get from the Magical Jelly Bean Software don't match.

My PC came pre-installed with Windows, and the Windows sticker in the back of the tower has the product key listed. When I run the magical jelly bean program, the product key that comes up is a totally different number.
The product key that comes up for the Microsoft Office I have installed matches with the product key that came in the case with the software (retail).

What gives?

When I open outlook express the following happens: at the bottom right next to the envelope it reads "5 new messages". However at the top it will read you have 3 unread messages. I also have an account at home and it seems some of my mail is going there. Both accounts are with the same service provider. Even though I have a different Email address for my account at home somehow my office mail is arriving there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Now, I want to take off the last 4 numbers, and the dash, from all the numbers in the column, using a formula. So that the output would be: 54321.

I want it so the first 5 numbers stay the same, but the dash and last 4 are gone. Is this possible?

"I have 4 x HDDs on SATA AHCI (Intel Controller) in Native Mode and 1 x ESATA on Win 7 Pro X64.
I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

"Disk 1".
Selecting the Drive's Properties correctly shows the "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)".
I also note that the Disk Number allocation in Windows will change randomly after some reboots/startups - going anywhere from "Disk 1" to "Disk 4".  I can force/replicate this

behaviour by removing the ESATA drive.
Is this expected behaviour?
It doesn't appear to create any operating issues at this stage, however, is there a way I can force the Drive to always map to (eg) Device 0 --> Disk 1, Device 1 --> Disk 2,

I have three SATA hard drives :
Main system/boot drive , WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 0 port
A backup drive, identical WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 1 port
Another dirve, Hitachi 1 TB, connected to the SATA 2 port
When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

Best advice, leave it alone. It may bother your (and others) sense of order but it won't affect how anything works, and no re-installing Windows won't change it.

I've composed a 4 page script B/W, font size 11, with red, bold, font size 16 numbers placed throughout to indicate slide change points during the presentation. My printer, Canon MG5550, prints the pages of the document but omits the red numbers, leaving a blank space at each point in the script.
Has anyone got ideas as to why this is happening?

I was checking my program and software list and at the top of the list I noticed two (2) sets of numbers that I have never seen before. I checked the internet to see if I could find out what they were. It kept taking me to sites for spyware, adware,etc. I could not find out what they were or why they are on my system. I have Windows XP, with Wordpad v5.1 and Notepad v5.1 as well. In Notepad, if I toggle off Word Wrap, I can then toggle on the Status Bar, and it shows me the line and column number in the status bar. It does not look like Wordpad has the ability to show line and column numbers. Does anyone know if there is a way to show that in Wordpad? Thanks.

I need a smartphone that I can put a document with addresses and phone numbers on and the smartphone will hyperlink the number straight from the document.

I manage the maintenance on a corporate jet. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Vista. We use Microsoft Word 2007 for our maintenance log book, oldest maintenance entries to newest. The only way I know how to do this is using a macro. Open the document and press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor. In the project explorer window on the left you will need to right click the object labeled "ThisDocument" and choose "View Code"

Paste the code below into the blank code window and save the document. You will need to adjust the macro security level to medium or low from the main Word window by clicking TOOLS --> MACRO --> SECURITY

I have new Dell Windows 8.1, IE, and using older 2010 office (word). When I write or create something on Word, it doesn't match the actual 8 x 11" page, and I always have to guess and see if the size is right. When I print, the sizes are never the same. I have a problem. My office has many labs, but from a single lab when someone prints a word document onto a particular printer, it gives out an extra blank page. This blank page is not seen in the print preview unlike which was discussed in the previous forums.

This problem has been encountered only for word documents but not for .pdf files. I have tried even with a single page of word printing, it gives out another blank page. Can anyone resolve this problem. I dont think its the problem with the printer because it works well with other labs and .pdf files from this lab too. Anyways its a HP Laserjet 5SiMX.

I have been reading the post on this subject from 2008, but not getting very far.

I got the excel link to the page to work when I run the macro, but cannot work out how the public sub works, and how to make that a clickable link at cell level.
What I have is an excel spread sheet containing multiple sheets and multiple columns . Each cell within a column will need to have a hyperlink to a different page within one of a number of pdf documents. There are about 6000 links to be made in all.

I was considering converting the xls to html, as the links work there. However as there is so much data the xls formatting is better for readability and printing.

My ideal solution would be single routine, each cell being a clickable link ie click on 843 and link to the appropriate page by calling the macro using 2 cell values variables ie a3,a4 . The macro would then extract the appropriate file and page values from hidden columns.

I know that you have already looked at this once before but your help on this would be very much appreciated

I want to scan a page and save it as a word document. I have used a couple a scanners in my working experience, but everytime i try to save it as a word document, the page content doesnt come as it is, but comes as a junk of mixed characters, numbers. (I remember in 1999 i used a scanner in which was very easy to scan and save as a word document)

Ive been generally pleased with the progress of OCR as far as accuracy. The versions that come with scanners arent able to handle odd formatting like forms. But my experience has been pretty good with accuracy in plain text. You need forms capable OCR software if the formatting isnt pretty straightforward.

Most OCR works best with black and white rather than grayscale, but whatever you are using try the other. Some integrate and dont even give you a choice. You can also increase the resolution if you have the choice. A few years back my OmniPage OCR liked 300 PPI, but my latest Abbyy seems to accept higher.

Other than that I dont know much you can do.

I have created a flash flip page document of 68 pages and everything works just fine, BUT you cannot read the text. I have two questions:
1) what would be the best magnifying code or software to use
2)should the pages have been made with pdf files or jpgs or doesn't it make a difference.

A friend of mine described a problem when he opened a new MS Word document: the insertion point is in the middle of the page and he can't move the insertion point to the top. I first asked him to tell what the top margin was set to. It is 1". My next thought was that maybe his file had been corrupted. So I went to his house, sat down at his computer and looked for the file. At least I looked where I thought it should be: C:/Documents and Settings/user/Application Data/Microsoft/Templates. I tried all users listed. No I tried to search for it in all drives. Not found.

He is running Word 2002. Any ideas on how to solve his problem?

One thing you could try is deleting the file.

This is the template for the blank page that opens everytime you start up MS Word.

By deleting it, Word creates a brand new one upon opening.

I just spent 5 minutes seeing if I could pin a document to the Start Page and I think the answer is "no".

I want a quick way to open an Excel document straight from the Start Page. Anyone know how to create a tile for a document?

This has appeared the last week or so.
DeskJet 895cse prints correctly on printer test and browser pages.
Word processor, spreadsheet, etc. send a blank page.
I have reinstalled Word. I have reinstalled printer software.
I have gone from USB to LPT and back.
Dell Demenision 4600, Windows XP home
No other problems have been detected in daily operations.

I have printed some documents save a couple months back that do print.

Looking for suggestions.

If it works, it may be fault with the font type you are using in Office
Also if it works from Notepad it must be a MS Office fault

Not sure where to post this. I have 2003 Front Page and I am trying to hyperlink word documents. It is viewed fine in Front Page but when I publish it-word documents do not post. It is 2003 Word. I tried using publisher and that is published out on the web only thing not everyone has a publisher. Also thought about using pdf but not everyone has a pdf. The extensions in word are html. Any suggestions?

Word allows you to save as HTML, why don't you just do that? More compatibility and easier to do. Then if the person needs to edit it, they can just open it up in Word.

Helo every one!
I m currently using Foxit reader software to view my pdf books, i want that when i close the foxit and next time i again turn on my laptop and open the same document it should view me the page and view layout where i left out. I tried in Tools>Prefferences>History, but i can only set Maximum number of documents in history list to 200, and Maximum number of documents in recently used list to 10. they don't go beyond that.
Moreover, i use foxit because it allows to edit, comment, drawing tools etc etc...
My foxit version is4.3.0.1110 Can anyone have a solution for this? Thanks for advance

go to preferences /history ...restore session when application starts.

to go to the page you left at click the bookmark manager icon and click the file with the plus symbol on it, name it whatever. then close foxit.
when you open it it will open the last file open at the bookmarked place

Well, I'm having a problem figuring out where to put this post.

But here's the problem. My computer has spontaneously put a page break across my saved documents, and nothing I can find in the help file removes it.

I've even tried removing a cell from below the break and pasting it above the break, and the machine just corrects and returns to the previous appearance.

I am trying to print a document in Excel Starter 2010. The document contains the columns A to J and rows 1 to 466. When I try to print the document, only one column prints per page. I have tried selecting all the columns and changing the print selection but this just shrinks the column size, and prints it smaller. How do I change it so that I can print all columns A to J on the one page?

I haven't actually used the starter edition but do use Office 2010, when you go to print, do you get a print preview on the right?

If yes then does that preview show the columns on separate pages or does the print preview show you what you would expect to see when printed off?
