Q: Solved: Bios Password Issue

Strange issue I have here with an Acer Aspire 5720

It originally had a bios password which I tried to clear, I put in the original password then it asked twice to enter the new password within the bios.

so I just hit the ENTER key and left the fields blank.

when the laptop booted up again it is asking

Enter CURRENT password ?

I tried to old password, does not work, tried just hitting the ENTER key and does not work either.

anyone have any methods to solve this issue please?

I have also tried to short the battery but this does not seem to clr the cmos.

TIA

Beyond what you've already tried (and I assume that when you tried just "Enter" you were sure to clear the field of any characters first) we cannot assist with password issues as per the following passage in the site rules:

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I set up a security password in BIOS and now can't get rid of it. I thought maybe creating the supervisor password as well would make it possible to remove the password option. Ive been reading a bit about BIOS and it looks like i might have to do something in CMOS but i dont know anything about this.

A:[SOLVED] BIOS password

Most systems have a motherboard jumper to clear the BIOS configuration, including the password. Of course, you'll have to make sure the other parameters are to your liking after the reset... If you haven't forgotten the passwords, I think just blanking them will clear them.

Hi, not sure if this is the right place for my type of question, but here goes. I am trying to set up a password within bios to stop the kids using the pc. I have set up passwords for both the supervisor and user. They are both showing as 'set' in the bios, but when booting, the pc starts up without requesting the password. I am asked for the password when I go into the bios, but not when booting the pc. Any help please?

The pc is a HP pavillion A1128.uk, AMD 64 3000+. Running XP home, 2nd edition. Bios version is Phenix Award Revision 3.20 07/08/2005.

Thanks

A:Solved: Bios password

If you set up a password for the BIOS, you'll only get asked for it when you try access the the BIOS.

If you have just a single user account in windows xp, you can have that password protected, which would prevent your kids from getting any further than the login screen. (provided they don't know your password, that is. )
To do that once you've logged in you'd go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Click on your account > Create a Password

Hi all. I have a friend who's mother handed him down and old PC. I want to try setting it up with Ubuntu to see how it works. I have formatted the HD. Downloaded the ISO file for the Linux OS. Burned the image to disk, and yes it does work, I tried it on my PC and it is a bootable CD. The problem is that whoever built the PC for his mom created a password to get into the bios.

Is there anything I can do here? I highly doubt that I can get the password. Can I reflash the BIOS maybe? Is there a way I can get the software to boot using a windows startup disk and changing it over to the CD drive and entering some command?

Thanks,
Mike

You can clear the CMOS through Jumper Settings on the MB.This will set it back to the manufactureres original settings.

You may need the MB Manual or get it from the Internet.Usually JBAT 1 Jumpers.

Also you may try to Power Down your PC,Take out the Power Cable and Remove the MB battery.

Leave for about 15 to 20 Mins and Replace.

Power up.

I have a Gateway G6-400c celeron.

There is a password set, so that when you first turn on your computer the first thing it does is ask you for a password before it even goes through the boot up, and I of course do not remember the password. I have had this computer sitting in storage for several years and I forgot I even set a password.

Is there a way around this password? so I can access the computer?

I can not access the BIOS to reset the boot order or do anything at all for that matter.

2. We have another older machine that was setup in a way I am not familiar. When I power it on, I get 3 options
- WindowsXP Professional
- Boot Mirror C: - secondary plex
- Boot Mirror C: - secondary plex

What are those 2 other options and can I remove them and set the computer up so it just automatically boots to the OS. I reformattd the hard drive and it didn't change anything,

In the process of performing a clean, 'unattended' install of Windows XP on a Dell Dimension E520, I decided to enter the BIOS and clear the existing "System" password as the computer requires several boots during the installation procedure. Upon saving the changes and exiting the BIOS, the computer rebooted and requested (you guessed it) a password. What? I thought I had removed the BIOS password! I turned the computer off, unplugged it, pulled the two-pinned jumper switch for 30 seconds and started the computer once again. Yep, it still wanted the now, *non-existent* password. As this Dell uses a Phoenix BIOS, I inputted several known backdoor passwords; none of which worked. I then shut down, removed the CMOS battery, and left it off for more than three hours. I started this Dell up again, and it *still* wants a password. BTW, this Dell has been turned off, minus the CMOS battery for more than 12 hours. I'm going to leave it off for a total of 24 hours to see if the "capacitor drain" solution will finally clear the BIOS settings, etc. God, how I hate Dells! If someone knows of a more 'radical' solution, please feel free to chime in. At this point, I'm willing to try anything! Thanks!

Hi,

A user sent out a Office 2003 .pps file to many people via Outlook 2007. Most people when they open it are not prompted for a password however a few of them are. On one problem PC, I tried opening the file both in Powerpoint and Powerpoint Viewer with the same problem. I also tried opening the file using a different user account on that same PC and was able to open the file with no password prompt. All users are local admins and so I don't think it's a permissions issue. That said, I checked the user's permissions in comparison to the others listed (Administrators and System) and they are all the same.

Thank you for you time.

We went on vacation and upon return my wife's Win 7 computer now asks for a password to just open Windows. I did not initiate a password but did set a password on my own machine for security while gone. The machines are linked via a router but her machine was not on at the time.
Anyway, she cannot use her machine due to the fact that it is demanding a password and the machine won't come up using any of the passwords we usually use.
I thought I would just do a complete factory refresh since she just uses the machine to browse the internet and had nothing saved of any value but that will not work either because the damned thing is still is asking for a password.
Any ideas out there?

I was given an IBM S50 Thinkcentre and told to get into the BIOS so we can change the boot order to ghost the stupid thing. It seems that the keyboard is disabled until you make it into Windows. Screen flashes to hit Enter to go into setup, but I've pounded that, F1, F11, F12, Del...all with no luck...Any help would be greatly appreciated before I fix it with a softball bat...

A:Solved: Box/BIOS issue

F1 usually works - most common on IBM.
CTRL-ALT-INS or CTRL-ALT-F11 work on some models.

DEL, F2, F10 are also used.

With some IBM's you can access the BIOS from within Windows or use the IBM Utility to change some settings in the BIOS.

Also, if you are using a USB keyboard then maybe USB Keyboard support is not enabled in the BIOS - try a P/S 2 keyboard.

Or BIOS access may be disabled on the motherboard thru a switch or jumper.

Also:

Enter the Type-Model and see if they list it in a support article.

Yesterday I decided to turn my old computer into a Linux media server for fun. It's an old Sony Vaio. The problem I'm having is that the hard disks aren't being automatically recognized in the BIOS. When I used to use it I remember there being this issue. I had one hard drive and I had to set it up as slave, that was the only way it would recognize the drive. Now I have two disks in there as master/slave and neither are recognized.

I have to go in to BIOS and look at the peripheral settings. Both drives are set to auto detect, I have to go in to both sub menus for it to pull up the information on the drives. Then I can boot up and use them. When I restart, it still remembers the drives. When I do a full shutdown it goes back to not recognizing the disks and I have to repeat the process. Other than this little thing, everything else works fine. Hope that made sense. Any ideas?

Have XP, all up to date. Use Avast and run free superantispyware, as a backup. Ok, my normal startup procedure, my desktop is NOT password protected. It goes to my (admin) desktop and all is well. I have my screensaver set to come on in maybe 10 min's and HDD set to "never" go off. After a period of time, for argument sake say 1 hr, I go to wake up monitor and I get my admin password screen and guest screen. So it is prompting me to put in a password. Yes, I did set a password pehaps 3 yrs ago. Maybe 2 yrs ago I set XP to start without password, which it does just fine, until it goess in monitor sleep mode, then it asks for the password when I wake it up. No, I do not remember my password, which I should not need anyway. What could be the problem? Could there be some rootkit hiding itself, or some other virus? I am able to run malwarebites and every other program, and am able to update all of those. I am really not to sure what to do. I could restore to an early date, but wanted to consult the pro's first.

Here'st the background information:

My CD/DVD drives stopped working on my Dell Dimension. I found that the problem could be to delete my upper and lower filers in me registry key (an error generated by CD burning software. To my surprise my registry didn't contain upper or lower fillers.

I then assumed the IDE cable was out. I bought a new one and changed it out. I ensured the power cables where operational as well. I then proceeded to hook them back up and reboot.

An error was generated "Diskette drive 0 seek failure." The odd thing is this error often refers to a floppy drive, something I don't have. I then assumed that there was a problem with the bios. I disconnected and drained the power from the unit and removed the cmos battery to manually reset the bios.

I waited 10-15 minutes. I plugged everything back in including the cd/dvd roms. I rebooted and got the same error. When entering the bios I had to reset the time/date which to me indicates that I've reset the BIOS.

I've even tried to buy an external CD/DVD rw and my computer doesn't recongize it.

At this point I cannot enter windows with the cd/dvd roms connected to the motherboard. It will send me back to bios.

Any ideas?

When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?

Hello all,

I hope I can get some help / guidance from some one with more experience with the M400 if possible?!

I reinstalled the OS and setup the biometric security for me, which has worked flawlessly! However I stupidly also set up the boot up security (BIOS Password). So when the tablet gets turned on I can scan my finger and get in without any issues, however I now want to turn the boot up security off. So I booted it in to the OS and went to disable it....however it asks for my password....which I have forgot as I have been a typical end user and have been only using my bloody finger!

Does anyone know if I can disable the BIOS security while in the OS using the biomentric security rather than entering a password? I have tried just changing the admin password within the win OS but that doesn't work....any ideas?

Any help with be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Very complicated to explain!!
My PC crashes again and again...
I've got two hard disk I used to use one, but I had returned to my other hard disk when one day I resetted my PC so no I can't get back to my other hd(which I used to use because I've wanted this configuration and worked a little slowly but good with internet on it plugged) now I'm on the other one and when I want to use the internet, when I click the explorer icon it doesn't even open??? My msn works I see my pals Online and can talk but when clicking ANY links either on msn page or in the whole computer to go there, absolutely nothing happens.??? So I would like to get to my other configuration of windows that used to work.. Is it a BIOS thing? Can viruses penatrate the bios and change settings of which hard drive I use and shuffle files in them and "share/shuffle" at the same time ? Because in my other hd I have a certain desktop background and the other another one. Now i've had the background from the other hd in my current one but not the same settings. Now I just can't get to windows opening it says: Primary drive 1 not found? Etc.. Help please? Scratching my head there big time! Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Primary drive 1 not found...? BIOS issue maybe?

Ps: my pc is a Dell Optiplex GX270, Pent.4, 2.66GHz processor. 64.0Mb RAM, BIOS Version A03, if needed Level 2 cache: 512 kb integrated.

I updated the bios after I had notified from Toshiba about the Bios v3.50. The process was done by the Toshiba Utility software, and after the reboot there is "Password =" on a blank screen and it not recognise my BIOS password, writing "Not certified".

I have also tried the HDD password but no luck.

What can I do now?

A:Satellite Z30-A-12R BIOS password not recognised after BIOS upgrade

Hi

Before trying to update the BIOS, all passwords should be removed!
BIOS password can be removed by authorized service provider available in your country.

But the unknown HDD password cannot be removed anymore.
In such case the HDD isn?t accessible and cannot be used.

Sorry mate but in my opinion you have only one chance to get the BIOS password removed; you need the ASP assistance.

Hello to all.
I was working with the Recovery Console and got the part where it ask for a password. The
problem is I don't have a password. I have no record of ever making a password for this
computer. It is Windows xp Professional with Service Pack 3 from Gateway. I read that if you don't have a password you can type "blank" or" leave blank "and press enter. I don't know which. I can't get that to work. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
I am at at a loss as to what to do. It has a" Intel Pentium 4, 3200 MHz
Processor, 200MH external bus" Is there any work around to getting around the password.
If anyone has any suggestions or references to offer . I would so much appreciate your

I was given a computer to work on and it turns out that her now ex-husband locked it, both the hard drive and the Bios. It is a Dell laptop. She was concerned about what was on the hard drive but I am almost 100% sure there's no way to unlock it???
As for the Bios, my desktop can be bypassed by either taking out the battery or resetting the CMOS jumper. On her laptop I took the battery out but it was still locked. She was hoping I could buy a different hard drive and the computer still be usable.

Any suggestions?

I'm afraid to tell you, but for this, you have to contact local ASP.
Because it is not that easy or possible the way you would do this on deskopt PCs.

This is why you have to take your machine to ASP. The guys there can remove the password.

Hi all. I'm not sure where to start with this issue, it's bit spread out but it all started while I was gaming and the game froze and then the computer crashed. The freezing happened every once in a while, but the crashing had never happened. During the restart I see this...
And then when windows tried to start up, I got a blue screen and then it rebooted once again.
Determining that this was an issue with the bios, I resetted the CMOS. No change. So I flashed the bios with the newest update. Again, no change. I was able to boot my computer in safe mode with no issue though. So I figured it must be a driver issue. I started by removing my graphics driver for my 8800GT and rebooted. It was able to start up Windows fine, but the stuff in that image above still occured. I then tried to install the drivers located on the NVIDIA website instead of using Window's driver. But I got a message saying that I'm not using Windows 7 or Vista and as such I cannot install (but I am using Windows 7 Pro). So I tried using the Window's auto driver install and when I restart, I am unable to load Windows normally. So I'm really puzzled now because right now I believe it's a driver issue, but I can't install any other driver than the one Window's installs. Also if I am able to get a driver installed, how would it relate to the above image? Thanks for any help, and if more information is needed please let me know.

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

A:Do not know BIOS password

Your computer: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-Slimline-s5000-Desktop-PC-series/4162194/model/42063... is a "desktop" computer.  The following steps cannot be performed on most laptops. 1. Turn the computer off.2. Disconnect the AC power.3. Press the ON/OFF button, to "drain" any possible residual electrical power.4. Remove the side-panel, to get physical access to the motherboard.5. Look on the motherboard for a small black (or maybe blue) plastic jumper, that covers two of the three pins that are in a straight row.6. Adjacent to those pins, look for labelling like "CMOS" or "RTC reset",to make sure that you have the correct group of 3 pins.7. Gently lift that "jumper" from the '1-2' pair of pins, and move it to the '2-3' pair of pins.8. Wait 10 seconds.9. Move the jumper back to the '1-2' pair.10. Replace the side-panel.11, Reconnect the AC power.12. Turn the computer on.13. Press the <blah> key to enter "BIOS SETUP" mode -- the password to prevent this has been removed.14. Select "Load BIOS defaults".15. Save & Exit from BIOS Setup.

I have a MSI Z77-G45 Main Board and I forgot my password for the BIOS. I'm sure it's UEFI because I have tried to remove the battery for one hour as well as using the clear cmos button and even the clear cmos jumper. The BIOS states that the settings were set to default but it still continues to ask for a password whenever it tries to boot the OS. I have also removed the HDD and DVDROM to ensure that wasnt causing the problem. I have had this MB since 2013 and have never had a problem so now i'm stuck and I can't use it unless I get rid of this UEFI BIOS Password. Please help!

Hi Everyone

I’ve a Toshiba Satellite C670D-11k which the bios password has been forgotten, I believe shares the same board as the C670/C670D/L770/L775/L770D/L775D or at least shares the same user manual.

I've left the CMOS battery out over night as well as disconnecting mains and battery from the laptop. but it still prompts for the password.

I’am guessing there’s a jumper that will clear this but cannot find it. I've looked under the memory module and lifted the film and there is two jumpers jrst2101 and jrst2001

Hoping someone else might have already done this.

You need to figure out how to clear the CMOS on the motherboard. Usually there is a jumper on desktop motherboards, but laptops are usually a lot harder to find info on. I will do a little digging to see if i can come up with anything.
