ITunes/ICloud update programs

Q: ITunes/ICloud update programs

Have tried to download the two updates to Itunes, but each time the download is rejected. My next step will be to delete ITunes and then re-install, however I do not want to lose all of the downloaded material.

Any way around this? This is my 4th-5th attempt to download these updates.

Uninstalling iTunes does not remove the downloaded content. See here for more information: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8. I have downloaded iTunes and iCloud and both appear in my Downloads folder - but I can't get them to run/install. When I right click and select "run as administrator" I get the pop up box to allow changes to the computer. I click YES but then nothing ever happens. If I try to delete the download I get an error message saying "can't do as the file is open in iTunes installer.

Run a system restore to a date well before the issue started, use "Show more restore points" if needed. Then manually run a Windows Update (start>all programs>windows update)Install, update, and run Malwarebytes. Remove all it finds. Copy and paste the log here. If it appears that you need additional help based on the log, additional advice will be given. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello,
Windows update has not been able to download updates for some time. I am also having difficulty accessing secure websites (on any browser) such as icloud, paypal, and capital one. I will input the address and get the spinning wheel of death until finally I get a message that says "this site can't be reached" or "took too long to respond". After clicking reload like 7-10 times it will finally take me to the website. I have icloud downloaded directly to my pc and it can't access the internet just like windows update. The only way to get to icloud is to go online and click reload a million times. It takes me forever to pay my bills! Please help I have a life that I would like to get back too. I miss my kids and I think my husband left me but I haven't been able to check yet.

I thought I cleaned up some malware that hit my computer last week, but it seems that there is still something on there. I would appreciate any help anyone could give. When trying to access McAfee update, an "Update Error" occurs saying, "An error occurred while updating. Please reinstall these programs: McAfee Virus Scan Plus."Also when trying to access Firefox update it says "Update server not found (check your internet connection)"When Adobe Flash plugin tries to update it says that I need to check my internet connection, and though I can access the internet, I cannot get the update to download. When in iTunes, I cannot access the iTunes store nor can I download any of my podcasts. When I try to use Internet Explorer, it says Internet explorer cannot display this page for any website I try to access, but Firefox seems to work.Malwarebytes and SpyBot scans run clean. It seems that I have something similar to what was posted about in: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/228041/infected-by-something-but-dont-know-what/ and http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/227207/cant-access-security-site-no-cmd-prompt-help/I have attached my hijackthis logI would appreciate any help you could provide.Thank you.

Hey Bleeping Comp Pros,

First of all, thanks in advance for all that you do.

This is a friends computer that seems to get constantly infected. He came to me unable to log into Win 7 Home Premium. Ran MBAM in safe mode, 86 hits cleared and was able to log back into Win. Still unable to do Win Update, and profile in Itunes was corrupt. Re-named 'iTunes Library Genius.itdb' to create new allowing Itunes to start and get music back, but unable to connect to Itunes store. Event Viewer pointed to problem: 'diagnostic policy service error 5: access is denied' which led to finding out Win update not working because of Error 80072F8F which is about W32Time service not working. Went through 'net stop w32time', 'W32tm /unregister', 'W32tm /register', 'net start w32time', 'w32tm /resync' and the WinTime service still isn't in services. Tried to perform clean-boot and realized anything I tried to do reverted back when I hit apply. Decided to run MBAR and got:

Good morning all. I attempted to install Itunes 11.4 and received an error message that "the old version of Itunes cannot be uninstalled. Contact your local administrator". Then, I figured that this shouldn't be a problem because I can remove Itunes from Windows 7's Control Panel, Programs and Features, right? Apparently no. Itunes does not appear on Programs and Features. When I go to Start, All Programs and the Itunes program folder, there is no Itunes uninstall icon either.

When I tried uninstalling it from "Wise Program Uninstaller", Itunes does not appear on there as well.

I have also tried Microsoft "Fix It". Itunes does not appear on there as well.

Itunes is fully functional when I run it from my desktop and I can run Itunes from C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe. Since I am able to run Itunes from my desktop and from Windows Explorer, what alternative way can I use to successfully uninstall it from Windows 7 so that I can install the new version of Itunes 11.4?

I have tried Apple Forums, Itunes Forums to no avail.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

For the last two weeks I've had a number of issues with my PC.

I started getting warnings that programs would not start on startup due to the file SPORDER.dll missing.

I temporarily solved this by copying the file from the McAfee antivirus CD that I have an keeping it on my desktop into the system32 folder whenever the message appeared, although this seems to vanish from the folder after 24 hours or so.

I had some issues with McAfee which I reinstalled at the same time but now I'm having trouble running non-Microsoft applications that connect to the internet, such as:

- Itunes
- Quicktime
- Sky Anytime

These never start, just get warning messages stating that the program could not open.

Is there anything I can do to perminantly solve the Sporder and 3rd party apps?

Thanks

A:Windows XP and Programs Running Extremely Slowly - especially iTunes

I've never had any problems with iTunes, but have had machines slow down when they've become cluttered with superfluous junk: remnants of "uninstalled" apps, internet temp files, cache, history, too many background apps running, and the like.

iTunes may be your problem, but I'd bet on a machine that that just needs to be cleaned up a bit. CCleaner might make the job easier for you.

Hi,

Would like to ask for expert advice on this problem im having recently.

I use my PC nowadays mainly for light office work, casual gaming, downloading, browsing and as a media center.

I run XBMC , display it on my LCD TV and use XBMC remote app on my ipad. Works great!

But now when i click XBMC, nothing happens. I later realized it will still run XBMC... 5 mins later! So something is making it run sloooooow. I checked Task Manager, its there and sometimes its difficult to End Task it. (Not Responding). But if i leave it for 5 minutes or more it will eventually run it and its fine. Task Manger shows normal or at least not high levels of mem usage or physical memory.

Another program thats giving me program is itunes. After upgrading to the latest version, it also opens slowly. Not as slow as xbmc, but still slow. Also, it wont recognize my ipad anymore so i cant sync or add files in it anymore.

So far these are the 2 programs i noticed thats giving me problems. My other uses, like MS Office, photo editor and other media players dont give me problems and would run instantly upon launch.

I uninstalled xbmc and itunes, downloaded latest version and reinstalled them. Still the same.

Updated virus software and cleaned registry, still nada.

And also, i have dual boot pc.. so i boot windows xp (w/c i hardly do anymore) and can run xbmc and itunes fine. And itunes under xp can detect my ipad.

The only things i can recall i installed last on my system a... Read more

You can try to spot errors with Event Viewer.

Open the Start Menu, and type eventvwr.msc in the search box and press enter.
If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes (Windows 7) or Continue (Vista).
In the left pane of Event Viewer, double click on Windows Logs to expand it, then right click on System and check for errors (see screenshot). If no errors related to IE will be in System, please check Application section.

Please post description of errors occurred within the described time of those programs starting.

A few days ago, noticed that my automatic Windows update did not download 2 new updates. I tried manually but got error code 8007007E. I also noticed that some of the desktop icons had a small shield on them and when I tried to open them, they would not open and a window would open stating "specified module could not be found". I tried uninstalling some programs and they would not install. Then yesterday, I had to remove the Vista Home Security 2011 malware, which somehow got through McAfee and my Malware security. When I downloaded the first update for Itunes awhile ago I got the same message and called the company. They had no idea what to do. Well I updated my windows and tried to install it again and it worked. I tried that with this new update but it didnt work. Any ideas? Also can you download movie trailers on Itunes or just watch them? If you can download them can you put them on your Ipod mini? Thanks for the help.

A:Itunes Update?

Hiya

Not sure about the movies bit, as I don't have it, but someone may be able to help on that one

As for the error, did you download the Mac version by mistake? If not, that's okay, just ruling some things out. Have you tried deleting the file, then redownloading it again?

Is this the site you downloaded it from:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

I just downloaded it from there, and its a different file name: iTunesSetup.exe

The file is 20.1MB large, and its version 8.2.160.0 for the setup program, 4.7.0.42 for the actual version

To determine this, rightclick on the file, and choose Properties, Version tab. For the last version, in the Item Name box, click on product Version, and it will be shown on the righthand side.

Does that match yours?

Regards

Recently, I've been having this serious problem on my computer. Anything and everything that has to do with Quicktime simply won't open, and it's beginning to really tick me off. This problem has been going on for about three or four months now.

Here's my computer's information:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Computer:
AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
1.05 GHz, 496 MB of RAM

Error message upon trying to open iTunes, Quicktime, and all Macromedia programs:

"______ has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I've checked the iTunes and Quicktime error report information, and the problem file always has 'appcompat' somewhere in the name, along with a couple underscores and a variety of numbers. They reappear and change every time I go through and delete them.
I've tried everything I could think of; uninstalling and redownloading the programs that won't work, and also any programs that could be causing a virus (i.e. Limewire), browsing the net for a solution from people who've experienced the same problem, manually deleting any problem files, etc. Nothing has worked so far.

iTunes, Quicktime, Fireworks and Flash won't open at all on my computer. It's impossible for me to put any new music/videos on my iPod, watch any videos via Quicktime, edit photos with Fireworks, or create animations in Flash.

In trying to update apps in iTunes in Win XP, the update starts and then goes to an error message "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-45048)" and the update stops. I have removed all iTunes/Apple apps and reinstalled but still get the message. Any thought as to how to clear the error and resume updates?

Since I have run the downloaded installer, iTunes (the older version) is no longer installed on this Windows 8.1 machine.

Is iTunes no longer available for Windows 8.1? That would seem to be a crazy situation. Although I don't often use it on Windows 8.1.
There was a similar error with Quicktime too

on 8-21 I installed KB3179573 which was a 2.2mb (supposed) Service Pack rollup. No noticeable effects after, but before rebooting I also installed the latest version of iTunes for windows, which reported errors in the installation, and rolled back the install. Now, the only working browser is Chrome, and NOTHING works! Not ESET, MBAM, SAS, Teamviewer, but Office 2007 does work. Any ideas? Gateway DX4710-UB301A on Win7 Home Premium SP1, 6GB ram, 64-bit

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Every time there is an iTunes update about 2/3rds of the way into installation I get the following message:- "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system" with 3 options below, Abort. Retry. Ignore.
Repeatedly clicking ignore eventually lets the install finish. However when I connect my iPod I get a message saying download was not successful try again.
The only way to get updates is to uninstall iTunes completely, restart and install again from the web site.
This is becoming a pain in the backside. Any ideas?

I have to check iTunes charts quite regularly and for some reason the charts i see on iTunes are not necessarily the most up to date ones.

I know this because my colleague also runs iTunes and the Charts he gets are sometimes (not always) more up to date. Is this something to do with my IP address so that the charts are kind of cached? Even when i close iTunes and restart it the charts shown aren't necessarily updated. Is there a way i can ensure that i'm always looking at the most up to date chart ?

Thanks in advance for any help you give

A:itunes update via website??

Count yourself fortunate because many iTunes users I know personally (as well as on various forums) have found to their horror that an automatic iTunes update has screwed up what was working okay before it. It's no bad thing to disable the auto-update, then visit the site occasionally and see what the latest update actually adds or fixes before deciding on whether or not to install it.

Updates are not compulsory (same with driver updates) -- so if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

It looks like the last time iTunes updated was in July this year. I get the message (through Secunia) that it needs to "add 1 item" but when I try to do that I get the attached 2 messages. None of the music on there is mine (can't access it - computer was given to me and belonged to previous owner), so I tried to uninstall iTunes. I get the same messages. I can't update it or uninstall it.

If I can get this solved, I have another Secunia issue about Microsoft XML Core Services end-of-life issue - that I also can't do anything with. For now I just want to get rid of iTunes.

My computer is HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook
Intel Core Processor, i3CPU

4.00GB (3.80 GB usable)
64 bit Oper. System.

A:iTunes won't update and I can't uninstall

iTunes 12.3.1 is the most current version and was released in October 2015.

I personally have never used it, so I can't address any issues with it.

I have had itunes with an Wiondows XP 32 bit pc for many years. I now have a new pc with Window 7 64bit, i7-2600, 16 G RAM, and 1T of memory. My problem is I can not load itunes 10.6.3 into the pc. When I try, the program says it was interupted and the change did not take place. It then asks me to press finish or cancel. When I press finish, the program says thank you and gives me the4 option to store the program in G. I no longer have a G as that has been replaced by H. There is no opportunity to change the save location to H. and simply says to load the external disk, which does not exist.

When I try to uninstal the itunes programs by strting with itunes first, the pc says that ituneshelper. Resources is not a valid short name. Any suggestions on this?

A:Can't load update for itunes.

Welcome to Seven Forums, David.

It appears that you have already downloaded the 64-bit iTunes Setup Program from Apple Web Site. I think the latest version is iTunes 10.6.3.25 Setup.exe. If so then unistall iTunes from the Computer that you had intalled earlier and clean the Registry of all iTunes related keys and values. After that reboot and then install the latest version afresh.

Try installing in safe mode first as there is no harm in trying but I don't think it shall install.

Hi,

I am having huge problems with my computer right now. I'll start from beginning, was having issues with errors and speed so I downloaded AVG PC TUNEUP 2011, REGISTRY DEFENDER, AND MAX MY SPEED. Ran all of these with little to no success, but my computer was working efficiently. Then I lose my iphone and can't retrieve it. So I buy a new 4s, hook it up to my computer to use my saved back ups. Can't connect to itunes, so I try and update to latest Itunes but am stopped by this error " the installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files\Apple\Mobile\Device Support\SyncServer.exe. "

So thinking I know what I'm doing I uninstall my old version of Itunes and try to install the new version from scratch...same error. So I start to look on online forums and help sites and they say to delete the file causing the problem but I can't because it says I have to be the admin. I am the admin on my computer, so I logged on in safe mode under admin and tried to delete. It won't because it says something about it may be in use by another program or something. Again thinking I could fix this downloaded an old version of itunes (itunes 9) it installed and it worked but won't recognize my new iphone 4s, and same error about privileges when i try and update it.

Please help, I have once again uninstalled itunes 9 and am looking for new help.

Daryn

This has been puzzling me for a good while. All my applications that connect to the net works great through my router (Linksys WRT54G) and DSL modem. Gaming, MSN, BitTorrent, AVG AntiVirus Updates, etc all connect fast and smoothly.

Only iTunes has trouble updating podcasts which I don't understand why. I have opened up the 2 ports (3689 TCP and 5353 UDP) and still the update works very very very slowly before saying that there is a timeout.

I tried a workaround and used Juice to download podcasts, it downloaded fine but I didn't like the way it was integrated into my ipod (i prefer them in the podcast folder which Juice can't do).

I don't understand why iTunes has trouble connecting to the net as all my other applications work really well and the required ports have been opened too.

Anyone has any idea how to fix this?

Hello, I have been referred here by noknojon from the "am I infected" forum.  I am having several issues including windows update won't work, Microsoft security essentials won't update, and  I am unable to uninstall Microsoft related programs (mse, word, etc).  I have noticed a pop up ("click to run") that says "Microsoft office 2010 needs to be updated" but it doesn't look legitimate.  noknojon was giving me guidance but I was unable to get security check, minitoolbox, rkill, etc to run unless windows was opened in safe mode or sm w/ networking.  I am also unable to get dds to run.  If I try to double click the shortcut it locks my entire desktop where I am unable to click any other shortcut icons.  I am able to browse the internet on the comp giving me issues, but it won't shutdown properly along with the issues mentioned above.  I did a system restore prior to asking for help which may have be wrong to do.  I apologize for that and appreciate any help that can be offered.

A:windows/mse won't update/can't uninstall programs/can't run programs

Sorry, I forgot to mention.  When mse wouldn't uninstall I tried to use Revo Uninstaller and MSE wouldn't show up under the list of programs.  I then tried to use the "hunter mode" in Revo and when I would hover the crosshairs over the MSE shortcut icon it would list the file path to another program such as adobe or asus recovery.

I'm having a rather strange problem. I have windows 7, and I'm having a problem with iTunes and Windows Media Player. They work fine, but if I put my computer in sleep mode while one of them is running, or even sometimes if they are not, when I open my laptop again iTunes and Windows Media Player both don't work. I can see the icon for iTunes on the bottom right, but if I click it nothing happens. If I open WMP and try to play a song, it freezes up and I have to use the task manager to close the program. If I shutdown or restart my computer, everything works fine again, but the problem occurs again the next time. I also sometimes have this problem with hibernate mode, but more often with sleep.

So I am finally going to update my Touch to 3.0 (from 2.2.1). I connected it to my PC and opened iTunes. However, when I click "Update" it instantly says it can't connect to the update server because I have no internet connection. But as you can see, I do.

I vaguely remember this happening once before, and it had something to do with a setting in Internet Explorer (or Internet Options in Control Panel). I have done a couple of Google searches, but I cannot find where it says to change the setting. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I did do a search on Apple's website about this, and they said to check the Automaticly Detect Settings under LAN settings... I did that, but it didn't help.

A:iTunes cannot connect to update server. Need Help

Ok, I am not too sure how I fixed it, but I am currently downloading the 3.0 software. The ONLY change I made was on my Touch's Sync window, I went to the Applications tab and checked "Sync Applications" (because I wasn't able to sync apps from itunes to my touch). So after I synced the apps I kept looking around the net for a place to download it outside of iTunes. I followed a link on Apple's site, and, as usual, it opened iTunes... but this time IT WORKED!

A:Trouble downloading iTunes update

Here is a page from apple on how to fix this problem. However it does require you to make a backup of it. Follow these step to make a backup:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the root subkey that contains all the child subkeys and values that you want to back up.
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the
Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

Then go here for apples fix on it:

Other times I get to the point where a box appears saying Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Hi,

Since buying my laptop over 3 years ago I have NEVER been able to update windows, access the itunes store, IE, steam and a few other programs. I can however use the internet with chrome, firefox, file sharing software, etc with no problems whatsoever.

When I try to use Windows update it says: "Windows could not search for new updates Code 80072F8F".
When I click on the iTunes store button it stays on "Accessing iTunes store" indefinitely.
IE opens up, but cannot load any webpages.

After peviosuly being unable to solve the problem, I swept it under the rug until recently getting an iphone 6 (having forgotten about this issue) and hit my head against a wall remembering that I can't put my music onto my computer because I can't access the itunes store.

Things I have done so far to try and solve the issue:

1) Temporarily disabled antivirus software (AVG)
2) Made sure I'm not using a proxy
3) Repairing my internet connection
4) Reinstalling said programs which don't work (itunes, steam etc)
5) Restarting in safe mode with networking
6) Performing a clean boot
7) Ran SFC /scannow (couldn't fix all files) and then SFCfix ("No corruptions were detected") and then SFC /scannow a 2nd time (couldn't fix files)
8) Checked my BIOS clock settings
9) Downloaded Malware bytes and ran a scan - removing 7 PUPs
10) Ran the DDS file (see attachment)

Tried to load updated version of iTunes but alert appeared indicating 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable'. I have tried to delete iTunes but cannot; I have left the iTunes compatibility box unchecked; compatibility refers back to windows XP/Service Pack 3. I downloaded Microsoft Fixit tool but it does not work.
I am at a loss - can anyone assist.

I did do some searching and didn't see anyone with my specific problem. And some of the posts were pretty old.

I can not install the new itunes update 11.1.3 I get an error message saying something like "problems occured while trying to install itunes 11.1.3. If problems continue trying clickling download only and installing manually."

So I did that, and same thing.

I was on the apple support forum and found something saying try uninstalling everything. Did that and got an error message saying "can not uninstall, windows might be in safe mode..."
Your help would be greatly appreciated, because I not super computer savy.

First, yes I did search for this problem and it did not look like anyone had the same problem. When I attempt to update Itunes (11.3.1) along with icloud control panel and quicktime a window pops up saying, "Error occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persist choose tools> download only and try installing manually." That doesn't work either.

I tried to go to programs and uninstall itunes. But it does not even show up there.

Any help would be grrrreat

Hi all, hoping someone here can validate a suspicion I have..... I have so far fixed three machines, specifically HP laptops (different models) that have had W7 crash after installing something from iTunes (users don't remember what, just an anonymous itunes update). The OS goes into a perpetual loop, won't boot fully, can't even go into Safe Mode and the only recourse I have found so far is a system restore from HP. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I'm asking on the HP forums as well, I suspect a driver issue but so far I seem to be alone in this.

Well my system is custom built by me but to answer your question: No problems with iTunes and Window 7 here.

BTW I've been using iTunes on both Windows 7 and Vista and haven't had any major issues under either OS.

Can you point to the specific item on the iTunes software that's caused the problems on the affected systems? Might help.

I have a strange problem.

I currently have I-Tunes/Quicktime and I KNOW that there is an update available (I checked their website). However, when I go to check for updates, it always says your software is up to date. I have Quicktime 7.3 and it's now up to 7.4.

I've tried the "Apple Software Update" feature as well as checking within Quicktime and I-Tunes. I've also checked & double checked my firewall rules to allow all Apple programs access to the internet. No luck.

Even stranger, when I check for updates in I-tunes, it tells me an update is available and asks if I want to download it. I click Yes, and then nothing else happens.

I suppose I could uninstall Quicktime & I-tunes and re-install but I'd rather not due that. Any ideas?

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, fully patched to Jan. 2008.

Thanks.

i clicked cancel and the update/reinstallation quit. im left with out my precious itunes. i wondered if the bonjour message is a virus of some sort and i found a file entitled c:\Program Files\Bonjour , inside the folder is the files : TBD288.tmp TBD289.tmp TBD302.tmp. when i tried reinstalling again during the installation process the files dnssd.dll , dns-sd , mdnsNSP.dll , mDNSResponder appeared in the Bounjour folder. these files disappeared after i cancelled the installation. i got a message saying fatal error and i should consult the MDNS. im totally confused and dont know what to do. please helpp mee!

I have downloaded the Software upgrade for iTunes 8.0 to my computer. I am Running Win/xp sp2. I downloaded it twice. The first download comes back with the error "ITunes8.exe is not a valid win32 application." A second download attempt come up with an MS-DOS properties icon and it opens a small properties box which disappears almost instantly (just long enough to be seen. No text is in the box, but it seems what would normally be the launch of the software, but this doesn't happen.

Is this some kind of Malware thing or is there a problem with win32 on
my XP version.

A:Problem loading Itunes update to Win/xp

Firstly, download only from THIS location. The installation for this application is extremely simple, and shouldn't involve any of the symptoms you've described - sounds to me like there's some corruption in the file you're downloading, not on your system.

If you're not getting any joy, then try downloading the file from another computer, and test the installation there, then transfer the installation file to your machine on a memory stick.

I tried to download an Apple Itunes update (I think version 9.1.1 Voice Over) a couple of days ago and not only did it not successfully complete but it appears to have removed Itunes from my computer. I suspect a Quicktime contribution to this as well since it appeared the installation stalled upon startup of Quicktime.

So I've tried downloading Itunes and Quicktime for reinstall but I keep getting error messages saying another installation is in progress and must be completed before proceeding. I've tried removing Quicktime through the control panel add/remove programs and get the same error message. I've also checked Windows Task Manager but do not see any applications (Itunes or Quicktime) running.

Any assistance or ideas, I would really appreciate it!

Hi i am running windows 7 ultimate and since i upgraded to the new iTunes the taskbar icons have changed.

Normally i would click itunes and it would load up and when i minimise it to the taskbar and re open it it would just open up in the one taskbar,

now once i open iTunes the pinned iTunes icon does nothing and another one appears.

My question is how do i get this back to the old way,

i hope people understand what im trying to say.

Regards Paul

A:Itunes update, now theres two taskbar icons.

Hi Paul,
You have to open up itunes so both icons are showing, then right click on the new one, the one that's focused on itunes, and click Pin this to taskbar. Then right click on the old one, and unpin it from the taskbar. It should fix it.

I have all my music on a network drive on a Linux server and it's mirrored to a local drive. I mapped the server music directory to my Windows XP Pro SP2 PC as I:/ and it worked very well. Podcasts download to my server and are picked up on my wireless network music player (Squeezebox 3).

I recently updated iTunes to 6.0.5 and ended up with lots of grey exclamation marks next to my music in iTunes. So, I changed the location to the local Windows drive (E:/My Docs/My Music), it ran the updater (Updating iTunes Library) and still had the grey exclamation marks. So I changed it back to I:/ and the updater ran again, but still exclamation marks. I can click an exclamation-marked tune and say Yes to browse to where the tune is located on I:/ and then it plays and the exclamation mark disappears so I know it's not an access problem.

Previously I could switch between E:/My Docs/My Music and I:/ quite happily and the updater always worked.

I figured that perhaps it was a problem with iTunes 6.0.5 so I reverted back to 6.0.4 and the problem persists.

I presumed that the updater overwrites the file location in the iTunes Music Library.xml file, so I had a look at that and it had my music folder listed as being at <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/I:/</string>, so that's okay. But most of the tunes are listed as being at the OLD location, which is file://localhost//Clarkconnect/shared/iTunes/

I went into iTunes, doubl... Read more

Up til now, I have been happily syncing my iPhone4 and iPad2 with MS Outlook 2007 via my PC x iTunes.

Somehow, I recall choosing an option somewhere to use iCloud "cos it sounded OK" but now when I try to sync the devices on iTunes, it tells me that I cannot do this anymore as it is being done on iCloud and I will have duplicate contacts and all sorts of dire problems.

At the risk of being old fashioned, how do I get rid of iCloud and go back to the procedure first mentioned in Para one ..........?

I feel much happier with it and not having vast numbers of contacts, appontments etc. would prefer to leave iCloud out of it for the moment.

How do I do this thanks?

A few months ago my PC became infected with a few viruses, Cryptor and some ransomware at the very minimum. After running various AV's and malwarebytes, I seemingly thought I was in the clear. Not sure what residual damage was done to system files, but I am unable to do windows updates. SP1 has been removed from my PC and I can't update it. I cannot use system restore. It only gives me 3 restore points, all of which are within 24 hours of whenever I try to use it, plus it will not restore to any point I pick. Last night I tried updating iTunes. I received an error during install and now iTunes is not operational. I tried uninstalling and re-downloading but I still get an error message. I was told to back up all of my files and to do a reset to factory settings, but I would rather not do that. I was also told I may have corrupt files in my registry but not sure what to do with that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After a routine iTunes update on my Lenovo X220 laptop with a Samsung 500 GB SSD drive I'm in a loop with the above message. I found that Win10 by default does not enable the F8 key for Safe Mode entry nor does it automatically create restore points (big surprise to me!).

Finally I created a USB stick with Win10 ISO image and booted with the Windows repair options. Unfortunately, nothing worked (no restore point available, no prior image, auto repair does not solve the booting problem). I modified the BCDEDIT file to activate F8 and booted to the safe boot screen (lots of F8 finger tapping!!) However, selecting the safe mode boot also resulted in inaccessible boot device.

Booting into the DOS prompt allowed me to access the C: drive but the dir command only shows one file of 0 bytes and 0 dir(s) with 69,611,520 bytes free. My 500 GB SSD drive was about half full at the time of the problem.

I'm about ready to admit defeat but I thought I would ask my go to forum for ideas, I'm out of things to do. I'm on a boat and don't have access to all my tools such as a USB drive case so I can't check the SSD drive independently. I do have a USB stick with a Win10 ISO image downloaded from the Microsoft website using my ancient Lenovo XP notebook which thankfully still works.

Any thoughts?

I've been trying to update my iPhone 4 from iOS 4.1 to the newest version but I've encountered problem after problem.

First when I tried to update it through iTunes it said 'it cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable at this time'.

Now when I connect my iPhone to my laptop it says 'iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again.'

So when I got to the control panel to uninstall iTunes it says 'the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your personnel for assistance.'

I've been looking for a solution for hours and cannot find anything, I tried one solution which involved Regedit but it didn't work.

Can someone please please help me? I'm beginning to loose my mind!

Clicking the "Install" button and entering the administrator password led to downloading and installation of the update...except at the end of the process I receive a notice that there were errors in the installation of the updates and to try downloading the file and installing manually. When I follow this procedure, I receive the following error message:

I have tried uninstalling iTunes so I can re-install it but the uninstaller returns the same error. I have tried deleting the problem file manually but get a message that I "need permission from SYSTEM" to do so. (Apparently administrator access isn't sufficient.)

I followed every tutorial making sure there wasn't a firewall blocking it, making sure windows wasn't blocking it etc, and looked everywhere for a solution but i can't find one.

Help please, How can I:

A) Upgrade from 1.1.2 - version 2
B) Connect to the Apple Store

I copied the network diagonostic things from out of Itunes, here they are:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Hewlett-Packard PPPPPP-ABA MMMMM
iTunes 7.0.1.8

Current user is an administrator.

Updated itunes on my office computer earlier today and now the whole computer is working so slowly that it has ground to a halt and I am therefore unable to uninstall again. Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions? It is operating on Vista sp2.
