iTunes and iCloud won't install

Q: iTunes and iCloud won't install

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8. I have downloaded iTunes and iCloud and both appear in my Downloads folder - but I can't get them to run/install. When I right click and select "run as administrator" I get the pop up box to allow changes to the computer. I click YES but then nothing ever happens. If I try to delete the download I get an error message saying "can't do as the file is open in iTunes installer.

Have tried to download the two updates to Itunes, but each time the download is rejected. My next step will be to delete ITunes and then re-install, however I do not want to lose all of the downloaded material.

Any way around this? This is my 4th-5th attempt to download these updates.

Uninstalling iTunes does not remove the downloaded content. See here for more information: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

I'm trying to install iCloud on my Windows XP Pro (SP3) PC. Officially it's supported only for Vista and later, but this hack is widely claimed to work:1. Open iCloudSetup.exe file and unzip its files including iCloud.msi2. Navigate to and open the iCloud.msi with Orca.3. In the left table select LaunchCondition. Then change in the right table ?VersionNT> = 600? to ?VersionNT> = 200? and Save.4. Run modified iCloud.msi and install.5. Run iCloud Control Panel, located in the Windows Control Panel, and set up as you want.I tried that promising solution in vain. It seemed to successfully install iCloud, but whenever I try to run it I get this obscure errorhttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...After much fruitless searching I've not found out how to proceed from there and would appreciate advice please.-- Terry, East Grinstead, UK

I believe that my Email account is too large in size since and I can only receive emails. I can not send emails. I contacted Yahoo and that is what they think has happened. I tried to find the size of data on my email account with yahoo.ca to no avail. I thought that when I download the icloud that it would fix the problem. However, before I do so, I would like to know what information I would loose upon downloading the Microsoft icloud.

Donald B. W. Clark your yahoo email account is supposed to have 1TB storage, so are you sure your storage is full? And you should still be able to send emails. Try deleting some older ones
icloud is a service from Apple, not Microsoft. Can you check what it is that you're actually looking for?

Hello:

I opened iTunes today and checked for updates. There was one. I tried to download it, but it quit midways.

I downloaded manually, and tried to install. Got this message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accesssed. This can occur if the Windows INstaller is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I also had problems installing the latest version of SilverLight (?) a few days ago.

Any tips on what I can do would be appreciated.

Okay. So I've been having trouble installing the most recent version of itunes 9. The website says that if you have trouble installing it, you should uninstall all components, then delete the itunes folder, and start from scratch. I went through uninstall but when I go to delete the folder(which has ituneshelper.exe in it) an error pops up saying "Cannot delete iTunesHelper.exe : access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." I don't see it my task manager and it doesn't come up in my MSCONFIG. I have windows XP. Any idea how to fix it?

Hello!

Well, I seem to get closer to being fixed but there's always something that pops up........
Windows updas fail to to install.  I get code 643 and code 80070050

iTunes will not install and I get a long-winded error explanation but it is essentially tied to code 0x80070091

Recognize this might be two separate threads but I thought the issues might be related since they pertain to "installs"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've read several posts already - maybe missed this one - have to upgrade to iTunes/QuickTime 7.02 (or whatever it's called) for my new iPod. Had iTunes and QT already installed for my nano and worked just fine. Ran MS installer util, MS cleaner util, killed from regstry and every where else to do clean install. Status gets to "Registering Modules" and hangs. Even when tried to install with or without QT portion. Only way to kill the install is with Task Mgr and kill all msiexec's that are running. Can't even re-install old iTunes/QT, get Error 1608: unable to create install driver instance, return code: 2147024894. Totally ticked off. Please any help before I burn this thing at our next drill at the firehouse....

I believe that Apple still uses the InstallShield installer for iTunes. Maybe this information from InstallShield will offer a solution...

Hi guys,
When I try to install iTunes on my Vista Home PC, I get this message: "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. ..."

Background: I had iTunes installed previously and it was working perfectly, but I foolishly pulled the cable for it out of my tower, which forced me to choose where my library was, which I screwed up by designating the wrong file, and then I couldn't make iTunes look where my library really was, at which point I called Apple. They suggested I uninstall iTunes and delete everything that has to do with iTunes before reinstalling it. Perhaps I was too zealous because now I longer have CoreFoundation.dll and can't install iTunes.

It's driving me out of my mind. Help!

Had iTunes on the machine, had to uninstall it for some reason.

Trying to put iTunes back on, so I downloaded the latest version (32bit just like my Win7) directly from Apple, and when I double click on iTunesSetup.exe, the mouse pointer goes busy for a short time, and then NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS.

No errors or any other clues or information.

Here is what I have tried:

-running chkdsks on all drives
-removing all apple software on machine
-removing iPod device from Devices
-trying to install different versions of iTunes or iTunes from different sources
-uninstalling my security and antivirus programs
EDIT: -also did the whole Run As Administrator thing also

No matter what I do, nothing happens. I can see the iTunesSetup.exe process show up in the Processes tab of the Task Manager for one second, before it quietly vanishes again.

What should I do? I NEED iTunes for my iPod Touch.

How can I get iTunes installed?

"The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."

This is the message I get everytime I attempt to install iTunes. I have had my iPod touch and itunes installed for at least 6 months without any issues until my iPod went through the latest 4.0 update. Now it will not register with iTunes nor will it go past the usb connect to iTunes screen.

I have followed Apple's uninstalling instructions (to the letter) and still get the same message when I attempt to reinstall iTunes from the Apple site. I am able to install QuickTime (as stand alone), but when I attempt to reinstall iTunes the same message appears.

When trying to install the iTunes package it goes OK and installs Quick Time and then starts on installing iTunes itself. Towards the end of the installation I get the error that I don't have permission to access one of the registry keys, and then the program rolls back. I am the owner and Administrator of this computer installed with Windows 7 Home Edition.
Here are the various things I have tried so far.
1. Right clicked and opened as Administrator.
2. Right clicked and taken ownership.
3. Started the installer from an elevated command line.
4. Entered this in the command line : net user administrator / active:yes. This command was completed successfully.
5. Tried to access secpol.msc but the system won't let me.

That's it, I have tried everything I know and always with the same result. When I look at my permissions I see I have Full Control over a list of items but right at the bottom there is always a little square for 'Special Permissions' and it is always greyed out.
I would be much obliged for any assistance you can offer as at the moment my expensive ipod is useless without being able to access iTunes.

Find the folder where you downloaded Itunes to. Right click on the itunes file and there should be something that says run as administrator. Click on that and that should allow to install as the install program is being run as if you were logged on as administrator. If it doesnt you need to make yourself a member of the administrators group.

OK I need some serious troubleshooting help. I am running build 7100 of Windows 7 x64 RC.

My main music player on my old XP install was itunes, and I was hoping it would work here, but I can't seem to get it to install. I realize itunes isn't officially supported for Windows 7, but I know prople have gotten it to work, I just can't figure out how.

Last night, I downloaded and ran the 64-bit Vista installer, but instantly it gave me some error about not having Quicktime and that itunes needs it. I don't really understand the point of the error since the itunes installers are supposed to provide both. Anyway, I downloaded and installed Quicktime by itself. So now the itunes installer just says there were errors during installation, and no files were changed/installed. I've tried the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions. I've run the installer as administrator. I've run it in compatability mode and tried every possible previous Windows version it allowed. I get the same error every time.

Some things to note:
All of the itunes installers seem for itunes and Quicktime both, though I still have Quicktime installed on its own. I don't know if this matters or not. I haven't gotten any farther in the install process after installing standalone Quicktime, only the error has changed.

I have Windows 7 installed on its own partition, and have been installing all other programs to their own partition. Does it matter where itunes is installed? And does the install path have to include "... Read more

At this point, I am having screen resolution & color issues. Seems when I open the iCloud program, the screen switches & the colors & resolution go to a negative & cartoonish appearance.

Putting the feelers out there now.

Thanks,

Up til now, I have been happily syncing my iPhone4 and iPad2 with MS Outlook 2007 via my PC x iTunes.

Somehow, I recall choosing an option somewhere to use iCloud "cos it sounded OK" but now when I try to sync the devices on iTunes, it tells me that I cannot do this anymore as it is being done on iCloud and I will have duplicate contacts and all sorts of dire problems.

At the risk of being old fashioned, how do I get rid of iCloud and go back to the procedure first mentioned in Para one ..........?

I feel much happier with it and not having vast numbers of contacts, appontments etc. would prefer to leave iCloud out of it for the moment.

How do I do this thanks?

Itunes will not install on my computer. It says it cannot install because an older version of apple update cannot be removed. However, when i try to remove this program it doesn't allow me to. It says "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". I've researched how to remove all traces of itunes and it says to use installer cleanup utility from microsoft. That utility is not available anymore. I don't know what to do now. Please help. Thanks.

Use ByeTunes to remove iTunes etc. You can download it here

Hopefully it will also remove Apple Update.

Hi,

I am having huge problems with my computer right now. I'll start from beginning, was having issues with errors and speed so I downloaded AVG PC TUNEUP 2011, REGISTRY DEFENDER, AND MAX MY SPEED. Ran all of these with little to no success, but my computer was working efficiently. Then I lose my iphone and can't retrieve it. So I buy a new 4s, hook it up to my computer to use my saved back ups. Can't connect to itunes, so I try and update to latest Itunes but am stopped by this error " the installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files\Apple\Mobile\Device Support\SyncServer.exe. "

So thinking I know what I'm doing I uninstall my old version of Itunes and try to install the new version from scratch...same error. So I start to look on online forums and help sites and they say to delete the file causing the problem but I can't because it says I have to be the admin. I am the admin on my computer, so I logged on in safe mode under admin and tried to delete. It won't because it says something about it may be in use by another program or something. Again thinking I could fix this downloaded an old version of itunes (itunes 9) it installed and it worked but won't recognize my new iphone 4s, and same error about privileges when i try and update it.

Please help, I have once again uninstalled itunes 9 and am looking for new help.

Hi All,

I just upgraded to Windows 10 at the end of July. I've been having problems removing programmes or adding some new programmes, e.g. iTunes.

Recently tried to update my iTunes but to no avail! Great difficulty in removing the existing iTunes programme. Had to use RevoUninstaller and all iTunes associated files, cleared cache, temp files, garbage, etc. I still can't re-install iTunes. Just sits at creating shortcuts or fails.

Asked both iTunes support and Microsoft. No results.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

hey guys im new to the forum and hoping i can get help. i too have downloaded the new i tunes 9 and have had problems installing.
when i install it gets about halfwy through and comes up:

an error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft. VC80. CRT version "8.0.50727.4053", type="win32" ,publicKeyToken ="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" ,process or Architecture ="x86" Please refer to help and support for more information HRESULT: 0x80070020

so you click ok, then it says rolling back and starts installing again.
after a few goes it said you have successfully installed i tunes but when you click finish then an error message comes up saying:

Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes helper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
Error 2.

i have tried again and again, also re downloaded the file again (from apple) wondering that maybe it may have been a crap download but still no lock.
i have made sure all old programs to do with apple have been uninstalled.

????

A:Unable to install iTunes?

Hi,

A quick Google search for 'HRESULT: 0x80070020' has turned up a couple of links talking about how an action 'cannot be completed because the file is in use by another process'. I think there is a post by one user suggesting that their anti-virus was conflicting with the installation. Try disabling your anti-virus (if you have any installed) and see if this makes any difference.

Failing this perhaps you could check Windows Task Manager and the Windows Services section and see if there are still any iTunes-related services installed and/or running that may not have been uninstalled properly last time. Also check your 'Program Files' directory and see if there is still anything related to iTunes present in the relevant sub-directory that may not have been deleted.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jon.

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me re-install iTunes. I'm not sure why I'm running into this problem.

When I try to run it now, I get an error that says, "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

When i try to reinstall iTunes with a download from the iTunes website, I also get an error saying old product cannot be removed.

iTunes is not listed in the "add/remove programs"

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I downloaded IE7 and it didn't work and I couldn't uninstall it, so I wiped my hard drive, reinstalled windows XP from the system recovery disc and copied all my old stuff from my backup hard drive. Everything is working fine, except when I download iTunes, it doesn't download QT with it and if I run iTunes, it encounters a "problem and needs to close". I think QT is required for iTunes, so I downloaded it by itself, but when I run it--I get a "buffer overload" problem. I suspect the problem is with windows installer, so I downloaded the latest version, but no luck. Also, I was unable to uninstall QT, I used the Windows Installer Clean Up utility to get rid of that. I have no idea what I am doing/what I should do now. Can anyone help me? I am thinking of backing up the computer to my external drive again, but this time when I restore the old files, I will de-select the windows folder and see if that helps.
Other things I have already tried:
+ unregistering/reregistering MSIEXEC
+ downloaded and ran RegCure scan
+ emptied Temp directory and restarted (all except two files, which I could not delete)
+ I have switched to Mozilla Firefox, as well and am getting much faster results.

could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\software\classes\Quicktimeplayerlib.quicktimeplayerapp\clsid. Verify that you ahve sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel"

Well, I have access ... I'm the administratore and the only user of my computer. I've tried changing the permissions, deleting the registry entry and running a program from microsoft that is supposed to fix this. Nothing has worked.

Anyone having the same problem? If so, did you solve it? If so, how?

Thanks!

Hi all, First post and I have been searching through this awesome forum for an answer but have found no solutions.

Im a new Win 7 user so hopefully its just a case of missing something simple.

My main issue is I just cant get windows to install itunes!
I have been trying all of the compatibility modes, running as an administrator but nothing seems to work. Im just using the 32bit Win7 and 32 bit itunes.

When starting the installer nothing ever happens, I just see the blue spinning halo and then it vanishes with no program loading or installer windows coming up.

I have also had the same issue with ZoneAlarm free, AVG Free and quicktime installers.

What do you guys think?

Can you go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search) go to the windows log>application tab.

You should be looking for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that refer to app hang, app crash, or anything resembling the problem.

Note the event ID and source code an tell you what they are

Hey all,

I installed Itunes a while back, and every time I open it I get this message:

"iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall itunes."

Itunes starts fine after this but won't burn CDs. I have tried reinstalling and get the same message. I seem to remember back when I was on XP pro having itunes just stop working with my drive before, and I ended up having to reinstall windows to get it to work again. I don't want to do that again this time around.

I am running itunes 7.5.0.2.0 on Windows Vista ultimate X64. Does anyone have any idea what I could do to get this working?

Hello Amy. Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You may need to update the Windows Installer, which you need to install any software on your computer.

Check this link for an updated version: Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable

Save it to your hard drive in case you need it in the future, and then install it and retry installing iTunes.

I just bought this nifty new Dell that came with Win7 (64bit). I've gotten pretty much everything transferred over from my old VAIO except iTunes.

I've downloaded iTunes for 64bit but keep running into problems. I suspect they're permission related. I'm coming straight from XP so I'm not used to ownership & folder permissions though I did work through the first itunes install problem by changing the ownership but that's not working in this case.

So i try and install it and keep getting this error (I can't believe we still can't copy error messages at this point) -
"error getting file security: C:\programdata\apple\installercache\AppleApplicationSupport1.3.0\AppleApplicationSupport.msi GetLastError:5"

in looking around for this solution i've run across a few issues with GetLastError error's but still not sure what it means. when i bring up the file in question, it does indeed have a little lock icon at the bottom left but when i check permissions in the security settings it shows i have full control.

i've also tried running it as the admin but that didn't help. i'm sure i can't be the only one out there with this issue but i can't find any solutions. is there a way to just open up the system so i have full control over all files and folders? i can't even install the skype that came on the computer because it can't access some icons when installing... but that's an issue ... You need the 64 bit version of iTunes.

Apple kind of hides the tiny link at the bottom.
Anyway here you are.

But what I THINK you did based on the itunes verion (based on your error), You google searched 64 bit version itunes, But sadly google will give an OLD 64 bit version of itunes. hence the error.

Download ITunes with Internet Explorer. when you click on the file it asks if you want to save it or open it. choose to Open the file. It should start the download and install it automatically. Do you have a previous version of ITunes on your computer? If so, try uninstalling that first.

I am running Windows XP Home with sp2 and all current updates.
I had iTunes installed and it worked well for several months.
Today, when I tried to open it I got a partial error message:
".....te local data stream" or close to that.
I searched the Apple support pages and used all the tricks I could find.
I cleared my computer of all traces of the program, the iPod and the Quicktime software.
When the installation program gets to the part of "publishing program information" the install quits.
The error message is that "The installation was interrupted before iTunes could be completely installed."
What I don't understand is why it had worked and will not even install now.
The only thing I have added recently is the free Real media player. Is there some sort of incompatibility I am now aware of?
Any suggestions as to how to install this thing would be very helpful and welcome.

I have tried to upgrade to the 10.5 iTunes, but it will not let me install. Other forums said to remove all iTunes and anything that had to do with apple on my computer ,restart, and download iTunes again. I did this but when i reached to uninstall iTunes, this message appeared.

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing the package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330."

This is the same message that appeared when I was having trouble upgrading to the new version. I now have no working iTunes because I uninstalled all of the other Apple parts, and I am completely stuck.

Any ideas? I have been working on this for two days now and have no idea what to do. Thank you very much!

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility: Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 Free - Remove Windows Installer configuration information on failed installs - Softpedia

After a quick installation process, you encounter a standard window where a list of installed software is displayed.

Select all Apple products which are listed, then click "Remove".
When removal is complete, close the utility.
Now try installing iTunes again.

A:itunes will not install on win10

That should be a good thing!

Stupid question, but are you definitely running a 64 bit version of Windows 10? The download could also be corrupt.

I assume this is the right dept, sorry if not.

I had itunes on my computer just fine, and had a shuffle with it. Plugged in a new ipod, said my itunes version is old needs updating. Fine I said though I thought this was weird since this ipod, although new, was a bit older than some of the newer models. Anyway, updated iTunes but now it complains quicktime version is too old, even though it came with the iTunes I just downloaded. Ive redownloaded numbers of times, as have I unisntalled them. No difference, said I need version 7.1.3 or something like that, which is what I have or at least should have.

Please advise!

Thanks
Dan

A:cant install itunes / quicktime

Hi Dan,
This may work for you. I had a similar problem downloading the new vers. of iTunes vers. 7 along with Quicktime. I hate Quicktime because it overrides wmp and everything else. So, I was advised to do the following and it works;
Download iTunes new version 7.0 which also downloads Quicktime. Then, go to control panel > add/remove programs and remove Quicktime. Be sure its all gone...do a search and remove all residue before continuing.
Then, go to Google and type in Quicktime Alternative...download it and you should have everything you need.
Hope this helps...good luck.

I decided to try iTunes as a media player for my music files, and attempted to download it from the Apple website (64-bit). The download ran OK, but when I attempted the installation, it ran for a bit and then came back with this rather lengthy error message: "Could not open key: UNKNOWN/COMPONENTS/A6E6EC4B003724EB7C2B16CC3118E4"

Does anyone know what this means and what I have to do to get around it to be able to use the program?

Many thanks for any advice.

(Running a Vista Computer)

A while back when I was using iTunes, it told me that a newer version was available. When I updated, I couldn't start iTunes afterwards, and couldn't open the iTunes folder (I didn't have access rights).

I ended up uninstalling everything and tried to reinstall from the apple website. After I downloaded the necessary files, I ran the installer and got the message (right when it was about to finish installing), "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.". I looked up this issue several times, and read and followed a few solutions:

- Uninstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Apple Application Support.

- Used Windows Installer Clean-Up to remove any other traces of the programs listed above.

- Updated to the latest version of SP2 and Security Updates (I couldn't install all of them because the updater wouldn't complete itself, so I installed the latest updates themselves).

- Signed in as administrator and allowed full access rights.

- Ran the installer as Administrator.
All of these and I still got the same message.
After I click OK, it rolls back the install, but both QuickTime and iTunes appear on the desktop after it's complete. When I run it, the setup ends up freezing at a certain point and then closes itself; afterwar... Read more

When I attempt to install iTunes I get the error depicted on the attached.
I called Apple Support and was, finally, able to talk to a human. After leaving the phone to talk to his supervisor he came back with this non solution." Because it looks like a problem with the OS I should contact MS for a solution. We only deal with Apple products".
I am reluctant to contact MS because I am out of warranty. Can anybody help?

A:Get error when I try to install iTunes

Blockie do you have any Apple apps or services installed now in Control Panel>Programs and Features? I'd uninstall them all first to see if it will install.

First be sure to disable any Apple in msconfig>Startup or msconfig>Services (after hiding all MS Services). That alone might allow install.

Next I re-download the installer to see if it's corrupted.

I only scratched the surface of the google results for the error message so you might want to go more in depth to avoid a possible reinstall since that is what some had to do. Sometimes a thorny issue like this will take hours or methodical research making sure not to miss a single result.

If you do reinstall be sure to stick with the methods and tools given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to avoid corruption like this.

I tried installing itunes today and this message appeared half way through the installation.

an error occurred during the installation of assembly 'microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publickeytoken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",ProcessOrArchitecture='x86'. Please refer to help and support for mor information. HRESULT= 0x80070299

I am completely stuck as to why this is happening. There are no more apple applications installed e.g quicktime player.

If you could help me install it and let me know why it happened for future reference that would be great!

Thanks everyone!

A:itunes fails to install

Seems to be possibly related to disk space/hard drive.

I don't really see anything definitive to suggest.

I'm new to this forum and i run on Windows Vista. So a while ago, i was asked to update my itunes to itunes 10 by my computer and I tried to do so but for some reason, i would download the file and get halfway through installing it before it would freeze and cause everything to stop responding. It then deleted my itunes which i think it was suppose to do once i got that far on the download but then it refused to update. I tried installing it again and again from the itunes website but the same thing happened. And my computer tells me every once in a while that my itunes installation is suspended but it doesnt tell me how to continue it? And NOW my new problem is that when i try to download it, the download will finish, but it will say its verifying the file...and then never change. Nothing new pops up and it can stay like that for hours. I tried erasing my temp folder and uninstalling everything but nothing worked. I even tried making a new user on my computer and try downloading it there for all users. I had the same two problems. And every time that happens, i have to restart my computer in order to get everything running smoothly again. I've looked through many different posts on this forum about itunes and none have been helpful so far. I will appreciate anyways help and advice on this thanks

A:Itunes Install Malfunctions

Back up your iTunes Library file (located in C:\Users\your username\Music\iTunes) if you want to keep it.

Then run Revo uninstaller and try removing any traces of the current iTunes install if there is one.

Revo - http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

What browser have you used to try downloading it so far? Try a different browser.
