Updated to 5.2 .

Supports AFD drives, I understand.

It works very well for me, even recovering ext4 partitions. It can make a winpe disc for you - but like most of these things, you need to d/l waik for that.

Surprisingly, it also is free for commercial use

They are doing the pro version free as well atm - tho you need to twitbook , it seems.

I'm trying to recover my partition table using MniniTool Partition Wizard. I tried running the Partition Recover Wizard which listed the 2 partitions on my disk i.e. ACER and SYSTEM RESERVED. It also listed the hidden PQSERVICE partition which comes with factory settings. The ACER and PQSERVICE partitions are listed as "Lost/Deleted" and SYSTEM RESERVED is "Existing".

However when I try to select all these partitions so I can recover and keep them all, the status of SYSTEM RESERVED changes from "Existing" to "Overlapped" and I can't select it anymore. When I move to the next step it tells me that it'll have to delete the SYSTEM RESERVED partition.

I don't know if i should go ahead and do so. or if it will just make things worse. What should I do?

Hello gentlemen. I'm trying to figure out what a couple of small partitions are on my secondary HD.I want to reclaim them I guess, but I'm not sure how to do so.I wrote the questions right on the screenshot. Here it is Thank you

A:MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro, Partition questions

Did the secondary drive have a OS on it before? You have a 101MB unallocated partition at the beginning. EXT4 is a linux file system. If this is a basic data disk and nothing else like a NAS box  I would do the following steps. Remember, any partition manipulation can go wrong so you should back up any important data that you cannot afford to lose.

Because the drive has roughly 300GB of data, the operation will take awhile. All steps are done virtually. When all steps are done click apply and partition wizard will do each step.

Click the D: partition and select Move/Resize. Drag the partition to the far left. This will place the 101MB ahead of D:

Click on the EXT4 partition and select delete. Only delete if you know you will not need it. From your image, there is data on the EXT4 partition. This can only be read using a live linux CD. You should boot a linux distro and see what data in on the EXT4 partition before you delete it. If you decide to keep it, move it to the far right (end of drive) by clicking it and selecting Move/Resize. Click on the partition bar and left click drag the partition to the far right. This will give you 101MB + 16GB of unallocatted space after D; which you have moved to the far left (beginning of drive) and before the EXT4 partition

After EXT4 is deleted you will now have 101MB+31.8GB+16GB of total unallocated space showing after D: 101MB + 16GB total if you decided not to delete EXT4.

Click D: and select Mov... Read more

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there was a good partition manager out there that works through vista and would save me having to boot from a third party app.

I just can't get the Disk management to work in Vista, keep getting the error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation".

Even though there is 68Gig free it wont let me creat a new partition of any size.

Thanks.

TK

A:Free partition manager

Hi TommyK,

Vista Disk Management is good, but it is limited to not being able to work when unmovable files like Virtual Page File, Shadow Copy, System Restore, etc... are not allowing the partition to be created.

Other than doing what you want when reinstalling Vista, you will need to use a 3rd party program like Acronis Partition Expert in the Disk Director Suite. You can try a 15 day trial version here:

Acronis Partition Manager - disk partitioning for Windows (Vista/XP/2000): resize disk partition, copy, move, split and merge partitions

You can use the Windows disk management.

Right click on my computer and then click on manage then click on Storage then disk management (local) you can right click on your hard drive and go on shrink volume to resize it.

I have a friend who has Windows installed on a 4Gig partition on a 240Gig hard drive. He has FAT32 with the 4Gig Windows installed on part of the drive and the rest of the 240Gig is NTFS for all the rest of his files. He cleans out the 4Gig one too often because it gets overcrowded and he wants to give more space to that FAT32 4Gig partition. I know that partition magic would be able to do what he wants, but I was wondering if there was a good free partition manager program that could do what he wanted. Unfortunately any installed partition manager besides Disk Mgmt can fail with total data loss. That's why we only recommend use of the Partition Wizard boot disk which has never failed in countless thousands of partitioning operations we've helped with here.

You may have a conflict with the Comodo firewall crapware too, which poses many problems. Use the Windows firewall which is perfected in Win7, with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Since you didn't touch Vista, I would boot it's DVD or repair disk, Mark Partition Active and run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times. This will move the System boot files to Vista to start it if still possible, so you can browse into XP to see if it's files are still intact. If so you can install EasyBCD to Vista to add XP on the Add OS Entry tab, see if it will start. EasyBCD (free Download at bottom of page - no name or email required)

I?ve already seen Paragon was giving Partition Manager Pro for free for a short while. I?ve downloaded and installed it successfully. Those who missed that day, can get it till October 25.
Here is the link: Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 As I can understand, they?ve just opened freeware downloads page. And sometimes commercial software will appear there for free. Very friendly I think for me it?s just like I earn 80 bucks for nothing (professional version of Partition Manager 10 costs $79.95)

So, what do we have here (taken from Partition Manager 10 site, but it works for 9.5):
Advanced Partitioning Operations: Enlarge NTFS partitions without rebooting Windows or interrupting your work, repartition hard disks without data loss, redistribute free space between partitions, merge two partitions to one etc.
Apple? BootCamp Support: Redistribute unused space between Mac? OS X and Windows partitions (great for me!)
Initial Backup Facility
Safe Defragmentation Mode
Etc.
Full feature list is here . The difference is that 9.5 doesn?t support Windows 7.
The program runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista (32 or 64 bit).
And Paragon provides user support only for the promo period. And only on Twitter . No WinPE included.
You will need to input your email on registration page to get a free serial ? that is your only payment for the soft.

A:Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 Professional Free download

The difference is that 9.5 doesn’t support Windows 7.

Actually - they don't claim it - but it does support Windows 7.

I have been using for a while on my 7 x64 - it works perfectly.

It is exactly the same build as the PM10

The only you don't get - is the WinPE disc and Adaptive restore feature. Run off the bootable Linux/dos cd from within the program to get it in bootable form.

Terriffic opportunity to get a great piece of software - Paragon are the best in Hard Disk Management.

Hi,

This is my first post here and I am in dire need to make a WinPE for MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro version 7.7. My pc does not detect my external drive efficiently when using Linux bootable cd so I have been using WinPE discs of Acronis True Image 2011 which I have created with it's Plus Pack. I was surprised to see that MiniTool has not a way of making a WinPE unlike that of Easeus Partition Master Pro. I recently got a license for the Pro version in a recent Facebook promo for Partition Wizard. I may in the future have a need to use a bootable disc for Partition Wizard so I'd like as much as I can have it ready for use.

Thing is that when I approached the CS of MiniTool it didn't helped me and said that MS is discontinuing the product and all. To top it they said,

Anyway, so I went here for help and assistance.

As mentioned, I have already made an Acronis WinPE disc (from the Plus Pack builder) so I have WAIK installed in the pc. Kindly see image attached of my C:\ of which it has the winpe_x86 folder.

Hello Rockstars,

I tried to undertake a straightforward cloning operation and have accidentally dug myself into a hole which I don't know how to get out of.

I have an old Kingston 64GB SSD drive which has my OS and programs. I tried to clone it to a new OCZ Vertex3 120GB SSD drive. After reading many forum posts here and elsewhere, the process seemed pretty simple. I used Macrium Reflect Free Home Edition, and the cloning process went fine.

I then used MiniTool Partition Wizard (Free) to expand the partition on the clone drive to make use of the full capacity of the new larger SSD. I also renamed the old Kingston drive to "MainOld". So far, so good.

Now here's where I think I got into trouble. I wanted to change the drive letter on larger SSD to C: Main and set it as my primary drive. Because I still had the old SSD still hooked up, the program wouldn't let me make these changes. I didn't want to unplug the old SSD in case something went wrong. So I changed the drive letter on the old SSD to G:"MainOld". I still couldn't make the changes to the new SSD.

So I rebooted my system and went into the BIOS. I set the new SSD as my first drive and put it 2nd on the Boot Menu list (behind the DVD drive). Windows started up fine. And since I had started up Windows using the new SSD, my desktop icons wouldn't work. I fired up the MiniTools program again from the Start Menu. Things looked promising. The new SSD was listed as a Primary drive and t... Read more

A:SSD Clone/MiniTool Partition problem and now OS won't boot up

When the cloning was finished, you should have powered off...removed the Kingston, and put the new OCZ in. If it booted, then you could proceed to the next step. If not, you would still have your Kingston intact, ready to roll back to.

If that had worked and you could boot from the OCZ, then you could proceed to enlarge the partition, either in Windows or using another tool. One step at a time.

Your BIOS should have been on AHCI in the first place if you were using an SSD, but swapping that will cause a drive to not boot as well.

Given the amount of time spent so far, I would have opted for a clean install long ago. This way, you can set the controller to AHCI, work right with the new OCZ, and ensure you get the latest drivers, apps, etc. No harm, and it only takes a few hours, if that.

Hi!
I just tried the tool mentioned above to resize my partitions.
I'm running W7x64 on a SATA drive and XP on IDE, so I can startup both depending on which disk I set as boot disk in my BIOS.

So far things were running fine but ever since I tried to resize my Win7 partition to have more room for my storage partition (same physical drive), my Win7 keeps rebooting.
I see the normal boot screen and after a while, the PC restarts.

I tried the repair console to no avail - the assistant claims it couldn't restore anything, it doesn't even show me any restore points (which I know do exist).
The actual Win7 partition seems OK though as I can access most folders when I boot in XP.

What somehow puzzles me is the drive layout.
It says
D: System Storage: Active: Primary
E: Win 7: None: Primary
G: Storage: None: Primary
Plus my XP partition which works fine.
I tried to set E active but it was set to status None automatically after the next unsuccessul reboot.
But shouldn't D and E drive letters be the other way around?
Or even worse, shouldn't Win be E, Storage F and System Storage G?

Oh, booting from my Win7 DVD and trying the repair install option didn't work either.

Did a chkdsk and everything on my Win7 partition but it found no errors.

Any ideas how to fix this mess?

Cheers.

A:Minitool Partition Wizard killed my Windows

Hello sordid, welcome to Seven Forums!

Try this.

Disconnect all HDDs except the one with Windows 7 on and connect that to the #1 SATA port of the motherboard and set it as the second boot device after the CD/DVD drive.

First have a look at Option Two to see how to use diskpart to mark the Windows 7 partition as Active and do the 3 separate startup repairs with the separate restarts outlined in the main body of the tutorial to (re)create boot files to the Windows 7 partition.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

DISKPART : At PC Startup

Hello everyone

Very much a newbie to this OS and to partitioning with MiniTool Partition Wizard. It seems lots of folk here use this tool so as I can't find an answer anywhere to this thing that's bugging me ... .

I installed and used 'MT' to 'Expand' my C drive, taking a chunk from the D drive to its left. All looks fine until I go to Macrium Reflect to make a backup and its reporting an entirely different partition schedule to MT. In fact it's reporting an older one with un-resized partitions and a third partition which I formatted as NTFS (using Disk Management) as HFS+, which it was previously. So what does Disk Management now say? Same as MT. OK, I think, so Macrium's wrong, best not use that then. But it niggles me so I boot with a GParted Live CD. But that agrees with Macrium and moreover reports the 'chunk' I thought I'd taken from the D drive as unallocated.

So which is right, MT/DM or Macrium/GParted?

This is probably more worrysome because I'm new to this side of the field but any insights would be most appreciated.

Best,

S

A:Problem when downloading Minitool partition wizard

If you can read other websites easily, then this message means that either
1. The download server is not working and you should try again later
or
2. The download server is actively refusing to download to your computer, probably because of your location.

i scanned my partition for surface error and there are 4 errors, therefore i cannot move/resize, actually i can make unallocated space but i cant add it to another partition

how do i fix this error, what is this error virus?, what software do i need to fix this error
does this only need defragging to fix these errors

A:my partition wizard (minitool) has a surface error

Rightclick on each partition to Check File System, then check again for Surface Errors.

They may be reparable using the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check.

If it confirms bad sectors which will not repair, replace the HD.

Hi Experts,

Could you please clarify whether Minitool partition wizard is ideal tool to partition the C drive which has unmovable files?

Please let me know.

I don't wanna to use minitool bootable cd/flash drive so can i go ahead with tool alone?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!!!

A:Is it Minitool partition wizard home edition is useful?

Yes. Lots of folks here use that tool to do just that: shrink the C: drive to make room for another partition.

It is not advised to alter the C: drive while Windows is running, so we use the bootable CD or bootable USB versions to do the job. These are Linux based and can start and run without an operating system running.

I have downloaded Paragon Drive Copy and Paragon Exact Image recently under their free offers found elsewhere on this forum. They are both excellent products and I have now replaced Ghost and Acronis with Exact Image. Will be using Drive Copy too but not needed as often.

Today, found a link to get a free copy of their Partition Manager and went there right away. It was supposed to have expired earlier this year (April 2006) but I got a registration number right away with no problem. Hope this one is as good as their other software. It installed and runs with no problems

Hi, I?m about to commite suicide so I just wanted to make a final query before I do it.

I have a 320 GB western digital HD, it has windows 7 (x64) in one partition and data in the other.
I used paragon partiton manager to redistribute the free space (don?t ask me why didn?t I use the W7 features please). It did, but the partition with all the data was "not formatted". It showed the exact used and free space (so no data loss) but I couldn?t have acces to it. I manged to convert it to NTFS... still showed the right used and free space, but no luck having acces to the files.

So I used the W7 function to check the disk... and after it finishes it the partition with the data is empty, the OS partition is intact, but the other one is empty.

I tried everything, so I?m not actually asking for a solution, my question is:
Given the fact that I haven?t erased the partition or deteled it or have done anything other than redistribute the free space... will a professional HD recovery be able to restore the filesystem or the files?

Thanks in advance.

A:EMpty partition after redistributing free space with paragon manager

Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD which has helped with hundreds of complicated partitioning operations here without a single failure. Partition Wizard

First from the Wizards tab, run Partition Recovery Wizard to see what it finds. When you identify the lost partition by size and space usage, tick the box next to it and restore it.

If this fails, use the Data Recovery Wizard or Recuva data Recovery software.

In the future, always keep your files backed up externally and ask here for exact steps to repartition or "redistribute free space" (whatever that means).

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with 2.0 G of RAM and a 32-bit operating system. I use Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2.

My Drive C came with 39.9 G, but had only about 1 G free before I extended it with MiniTool Partition Wizard 8.1.1. In contrast, my Drive D used only about 12 G of its 248 G. So I used the MiniTool to extend my Drive C to 200 G by taking space from D.

But, since extending C, my PC has been sluggish, and I have to get past two messages to open a Word 2007 document. My OS is Japanese. My translation of the first message is ?Because a dialog box is open, the command cannot be executed.? The second message is "Cannot open existing file. (Normal.dotm)".

Note that I tried various files and functions right after extending my drive. And Word was fine. It was the next day, after restarting my PC, that the messages appeared. But how can I eliminate the two messages? Interestingly, they do not appear if a Word file is open and I open another one.

Also, why has my PC slowed down? Did I extend the drive too much? How can I speed up my computer? Maybe running my Norton tune-up will help, but that messes with the registry. So I am asking this forum first.

I contacted Partition Wizard support, and they said the Word and sluggishness issues were not due to their software or my drive extension.

A:Performance Issues after Extending C with MiniTool Partition Wizard 8

Go to Start/Search and type %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates In this file, delete the Normal.dotm file and restart your computer. a new normal.dotm file will be created at next bootup.
Also go to Start/Search and type CMD, Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes and reboot the computer. Check Disk will run through 5 stages at next bootup. It will take a while.

Hi guys, I've just installed Partition Wizard on my new laptop (HP Pavilion 15) & split my 1Tb C drive into 4 partitions. The s/w restarted the machine, partitioned the drive as it rebooted but then failed to restart fully giving me an "Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap" msg. I did a bit of research & rebooted in safe mode successfully followed by a successful clean boot. Then I looked at my computer details to find that I now only have a 100G C drive & a 20G recovery D drive!

Partition Wizard can still see the other 880G of the disk but file explorer can't. There were no error messages as the s/w partitioned the disk so I'm at a loss as to how to make the other partitions visible. Any ideas gratefully received as this is a little scary now. BTW OS is Windows 8.1.

How do you know the files are there if you can't access the partition? Can you Explore it in Disk Mgmt?

Does the partition have a drive letter? If not assign one in Disk Mgmt: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

When doing Resizing operations which can't be safely handled by Disk Mgmt, you should use the boot disk of Partition Wizard which has never failed in thousands of partitioning operations we've helped with here, while all others and even the PW Windows version can and will fail because they depend upon RAM holding the information at reboot.

To help us help you better please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image and tell us exactly what is on each partition and where it was before you did the resizing from Windows.

Hi I'm a newby so not sure yet of how you guys work.

In a fit of stupidity I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and went with dual boot, but it just would not see my WiFi router regardless of what I tried, so got rid of it following some online advice, using the bootrec.exe/fixmbr command, which now allows me to boot straight into Vista.

However, if you look at the pic attached you will see I have a huge lump of free space 41.64gb free space which I can't use for anything.

Is there a way for me to re-combine the 41.64gb free space with the C: drive again, the options allowed are displayed in the pic, also there is another slice of the drive 5.37gb which I'd also like to be able to use.

I'm not sure I've made my self clear on what I'd like to acheive, which is to bring both of theses slices back in to the C: drive.

On right clicking the 5.37gb drive the only option is Help, as neither of theses slices has a drive letter I don't see how I can do anything to them.

The only options I have for the 41.64gb free space seems to be to make a simple volume (not sure what that actually means) or delete the partition.

I'd like to get back to how it was before I installed Ubuntu, IE a C: & S: with no more partitions, preferably without having to re-install Vista.

Thanks in hopeful anticipation.

Kev

PS for clarity I've cut and pasted the options for each slice of the drive below the relevant slice

Hello all,

I've got a 100 gig hard drive divided into a primary C partition and a second logical partition (E drive). (I also have a separate hard drive, which is D, which I use for backups). This is a dual boot system - the C drive has Windows ME on it, which I don't use anymore, and the E drive has Windows XP Pro.

The C drive is FAT 32 and the E drive is NTFS. I'd like to be able to delete all data and programs from the C drive and just leave the ME operating system there, so as to free up as much free space as possible. Then, I'd like to shift the free space from C into the E partition.

I'm not sure if this is possible to do. Can I use Partition Magic to move FAT32 free space into the E partition, which is formatted as NTFS? Can folks tell me if this is possible to do and what steps I need to take, using Partition Magic, in order to accomplish it.

I'd appreciate tips and suggestions! Thanks very much. Please feel free to also e-mail me directly: [email protected]

I loaded a hard disk formatted as a Windows Primary Disk onto my SATA controller. The BIOS sees the disk. In this case I want to load the new disk as a secondary drive (of course I have booted with a different hard disk). I load the Partition Manager and inside I find that the partition manger does not see the new disk. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the new disk being a Windows 7 primary boot partition as well. I was hoping to get a drive letter mapped to it so I could extract some data from that disk. What should I be doing when this occurs?

Thank you...

A:Partition Manager. Primary Boot Partition as Secondary Drive.

Have you tried Disk Management? Right click computer and select manage, in the left column select disk management. In the lower portion of the window you will see each hard drive with drive letters. If you see one with no drive letter, right click it and select 'change drive letter or path, next screen select add, and pick whatever drive letter you would like from the drop down list. Once it gives it a drive letter, you will be able to see it in explorer. If you have data on the drive you would like to keep, Do Not format it, if Disk Management wants to.

Dear Group,

I am writing to let you know, perhaps as far back as 2011.. I got three hard
drives with this 'odd' ( ------- ) partition that shows up when I was using
Copy Wipe 1.14. It appears on ALL of the IDE hard drives I have used this
program from a BOOT CD and I am unable to remove, delete (F6) the
mysterious impervious to DEBUG command partition killer. I have
tried the DEBUG subroutine with no effect, and even this computer I am
reporting this also has the similar virus/worm infection. I don't know
if this is the w32.lecna.h or mutant variant. It does show the RECYCLER
and the System Volume Information on both drives. I also notice the
CMDCons on my back up drive D: with my storage stuff.

I used Copywipe 1.14 and found this mysterious partition that
can not and will not be removed, and used the program to find
similar instances on my other hard drives. I press F4 to remove and
it won't remove. Oh well.. has anyone found the same instance on
SATA drives and using Windows 7?

I hope there is a cure for this.. I don't want to lose my data and pics.
I wish there is a BOOT CD to purge this w/out losing data.

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.
If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create two logs. (Note: Windows 8.1 Users will not be able run DDS and create a log)
When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.
Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs, then still start the new topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Hey there:

As far as I remember, I had six partitions when my machine was fresh (I just bought it like 3 months back)
- one for win xp
- one empty (where I would later install Windows 7)
- one where I'd store my documents
- one big empty where I planned to install Linux sometime later
- one big partition where I'd store everything else ('Main' partition)

There was a virus problem with XP - I had AVG installed, and the virus would infect all the exe files on my computr and AVG would simply delete it (the infected exe's) which made matters worse.

Then I installed Win 7 on another partition, and used it for some time without much trouble, except once when I tried some partition manager (so it would be easier when I'd install Linux - for now the Linux plan has been cancelled) when I lost two important partitions somehow (the last two I think, I don't remember exactly). Looking at Disk Management (Computer | Manage | Disk Management), and possibly doing some other things I don't remember I was able to get the partitions back the way they were before (one of them empty).

XP was still there on my PC, I started it once and it damaged the exe files of Win 7 as well. So after a few days I decide to reinstall XP then realised that the drives had disappeared again, this time I wasn't able to recover them. I checked Disk Management, and saw that the two partitions had been merged into one "free space" partition that didn't sh... Read more

I have 3 partitions on my Laptop 40GB HDD. These were freshly created and reloaded about a month and half ago:

C: OS -10GB
D: Program Files -10GB
E: My Documents -20GB

in the OS section there is only about 2.2GB free space. OS is XP Pro and about 3.0GB but then theres also programs which seem to work better when in the OS partition as opposed to the Program Files partition. They're consuming the rest of the space.

I've read that XP slows down when it has less than 50% free space. I'd like to know how true this is.
I've also read that having the OS separate from the Programs has few advantages because if you need to reinstall OS programs won't work. I understand this. I'd like to take the space I have on E: drive and put it into C: drive to make it larger or possibly just merge the C: and D: drives. Although just merging these two would still yield around a 50% free space situation.

What are some of your thoughts? What might you do?

I've tried using Acronis Partitioning Trial Software that hasn't worked for me because of the limitations of the Trial Version. Same with Partition Magic 8. I'm afraid to try the Ranish Partition Manager because its DOS based and I'm not familiar or comfortable with that. I also can't justify to pay for the full version of the previously mentioned Programs. Can you please recommend something?

It is very good.

It is excellent in pe too.

I currently have a 1tb HDD with a 250gb partition with windows 7 and want to increase the size to 475gb. I don't know what type of partitions are currently on the HDD. I also think there is something going on with the way my partitions are set up, but that is something else.

I just need to know a partition editor (preferably free) that I can use on windows 7 for me to see what I have set up and what is being used to boot up my computer first.

When I set the first boot device to my HDD it doesn't boot up properly unless I hit f12 before it boots. So I think its using the wrong partition for boot by default.

Thanks, Dan

A:Free partition software?

Well, there's always Disk Management with 2K or XP.

There's Ranish Partition Manager, I've never used it, but it's free.

If you have the previous version 4.2.2 - Copy the Partition Wizard 4.2.2 folder from Program Files x86 somewhere safe - before installing v5 or it will be overwritten.

Just to let all UK members know that PC Magazine have Partition Magic v5 on this month's coverdisc. Full working version, no restrictions!

Just used it to alter cluster size (defrag problem) as suggested by someone here. Amazed how easy it is to use. This version only good for O/S up to 98SE though, or so it says.

Thanks to everyone's great input I've never needed to ask a question, always found the answer I was looking for, but I lurk often and just want to say you guys are great - I recommend this site to everyone!

Good Morning. win xp sp3 / partition manager 7
Tried to partition a 500 gb drive in PM 7, and got error messages on reboot. Took hd to another computer and partitioned the drive using
Paragon partition manager server ed 8.5, worked fine, visible in both vista and xp as a slave. HOWEVER when i attempt to use it as the host OS pm7 is still trying to action a command, and now says it cannot recognise the structure / partitions . Removed the pm7 folder but cannot get in to uninstall. How and where do i cancel this attempted action, prior to the windows boot, with a ubuntu, windows or dos disk, or another machine.
All files etc undamaged but if i do an image , and format 500gig disk the error will be saved also. Hope somebody knows how to cancel the pm action . Thanks

In the Techspot post detailing how to instal Win7 RC in 3 easy steps, http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-120472-Dual-Boot-Windows-7-with-XPVista-in-three-easy-steps.html, the partition manager "GPparted" was suggested as a way to divide a partition where XP was installed, as XP OS doesn't have a partition manager that can do this function.

In my own case I had 3 partitions on my PC and had already used Vista partition manager to create a 4th partition for Win7. However, I'd been looking for a good freeware partiton manager for a quite awhile, and downloaded GPparted from the link shown in the post:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gparted/gparted-live-0.4.1-2.iso?modtime=1230460364&big_mirror=0

I then burnt the ISO file for GPparted as a bootable CD and ran it on bootup as a trial to create a 5th partition as if i was creating a new partiton on which to load Win7.

It created a new, primary, (unactive), parition OK, but when I re-booted none of my operating systems would boot except Vista. After a lot of failed attempts to rectify the problem, I tried to:

Use the Vista boot manager to delete the other OS paritions but it was not able to do this,

Re-load Acronis images of the inaccesible OSs but it could not load due to "partition error" message.

In the end, the only solution was to delete all partitions, including my 5th data storage partiton, (using XP CD parition manager on re-boot), before I could re-instal the Acr... Read more

Anyone know if there is a way to get Ranish Partition Manager to work on an NTFS WinXP Pro system? I have an 80GB hard drive that I want to partition into 4 partitions.

If Ranish can't do it, does anyone know of any other good free method of doing so without having to format the drive and reinstall the os and everything?

Right now I'm just trying to avoid having to spend $70 on Partition Magic, but at this rate I might just have to give in and fork out the cash.

Hello everyone I am lookin for partion manager that will create me a bootable cd not a floppy cause I dont have one.

So I can delete all my partions and create new once.

Windows 7 cant do that cause I got OEM reserved partion and some dynamic partions that I cant even delete.

If someone knows how or have a tool to do so tell me.

I need it to make a fresh windows install and also put ubuntu that requires me create new pation and I cant cuase of the damn dynamic drives.
