Q: How do I find Ports that Games Use- Ports That PC Games Use - Listings - Help

I am trying to get DSL or some other form of broadband. One thing that is bothering me is security because I leave my machine on all the time. Thus I wish to use the Windows 2000 Port Resticting App and/or/in conjunction with Tiny Personal Firewall.

So the question is where can I find a listing of some sort that tells me what type(s) and number port(s) PC games use? Also if avalible LINUX games?

Thank you.

Hi all.

In order to play a multiplayer game I need to open ports on both my firewall and router, and hey presto, it works and I can even create servers.

However, is this a security risk? I read on this forum that all ports should be "stealthed", but when I open them on the router+firewall a few ports come up on the GRC port scan as "closed" as expected instead of stealthed.

Can I just leave these settings in place or do I just have to change the settings everytime before and after I play, which would just be plain annoying.

Thanks in advance.

Hey all so I have forwarded some ports on my router with Airport Utility (NAT port forwarding), but using cmd netstat -n the ports I forwarded aren't listed and using online port checkers confirms they are closed. I added exceptions to my firewall (even though it is off), and windows defender is off, and Avast's shields are all off. I honestly have no idea how to open the ports up and haven't found a way to do this using Windows 8 (not pro).

Anybody have any ideas? It seems like Windows 8 is blocking these ports from opening for some reason. There doesn't seem to be an override function in cmd to open them, either.

In case you're wondering why I need the ports open, I'm trying to resolve a "request timeout" error when pinging somebody on Hamachi - so I'm trying to open the main ports Hamachi uses (I just want to play Terraria, man).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Ports closed; router forwarded ports, firewalls disabled?

Temporarily add your PC IP into the DMZ and try again , see if the internal/external tests then notice the ports open , this will test if it's a router or PC issue....

Don't forget to take it out of the DMZ after testing...

My modem-router is in bridged mode (everything is disabled except internet), i have disabled windows firewall i have taken my firewall offline (until this issue is resolved) but still no one can access my server (they can't even join a game if i create a server)

if i go to port checker it says connection refused on all ports except port 80? how do i force open the ports?

i called my ISP and they say they should be open and there not blocking any ports.

I have a static ip address, 24Mbit up 2.5Mbit down.

when i run my filesharing program (for sharing files between my and my clients) and they try to download a file from me it says it will take (99years, 99days, 99 hours) now i don't really have that long to wait

edit: and yes my network properties are configured manually (and not on auto detect) i have no problem accessing the internet myself

A:Opening ports, i have the firewall disabled but ports are still blocked

It would be better to open the ports in the running firewall than to turn it off. Firewalls load drivers, running or not. Many firewalls block everything by default when they are turned off so that the machine is protected during boot.

You may need to uninstall some firewalls to get them to open all ports.

Running latest BIOS and latest drivers downloaded directly from manufacturer's website.

I tried switching between all 3 internal headers and none of them would detect the flash drive.

If I plug the drive in the rear ports it detects right away leading me to suspect the case's ports might be defective but I don't have another USB 2.0 card lying around to confirm.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

A:Front USB ports not working, but rear USB ports work…

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

Installed and used an uninstaller to clean out some old files and apparently removed some important .dlls. Some programs were affected by the removal of the .dlls including MS Office and internet browsers, and I noticed some strange things on the home network on other PCs. Some pages weren't loading flash portions of internet pages. I suspect that the router drivers were somehow compromised, but that problem seems to be under control for now. I reinstalled flash player and shockwave, and I am mostly confident that the browser problems are resolved.

Ran the repair utility on the XP installation disk on the affected machine, and for the most part the original problems seem to have disappeared. MS Office functionality has returned with the flash reinstall and with the XP reinstall. I have reinstalled some drivers including the graphics and monitor drivers, so graphics are good. However, a whole new crop of problems have appeared since the repair installation.

The affected computer is an HP DC7700 small form factor with 6 USB ports on the back and 2 on the front. Additionally, there are also a microphone jack and a headphone jack on the front. The 2 USB ports and the mic and headphone jack on the front both have lost functionality. Hi' Everyone,
I am new here so I hope someone can help me. I have windows XP Home now and when I had windows 98 I am pretty sure I used to be able to see the ports by clicking on the little dial up boxes (I have Broadband now), and I used to be able to see the ports that were open and I think the numbers. I have looked at the Firewall and I click on that and open up properties and see a list of what I assume are the ports some have ticks and some don't but why don't I see the numbers or TCP UDP I think that's what they are called. Sorry I am not very computer savvy as only had the other computer for a little while it was very old and so bought a new one. Also, I was trying to put some photos onto a disk and a message kept appearing saying "confirm stream loss file thumbs, extra information attached may be lost, do you want to continue?, click yes or skip. I just X out of it and the photos burned to disk okay.
thank you for any advice and sorry for the long post.

A:trying to find ports

Why do want to see ports?? XP is very different from Win98. Very very different. As for your other problem, without more info on the software you are using, I can only guess that you are dragging or copying thumbnails of pics instead of the pics themselves. Thus XP is asking if you want the thumbnail also or you will lose it if you contiune.

To be blunt, I have a very poor understanding of the question I am about to ask: I am not much of a software person. I currently attend a boarding, which is using a program called Bradford Agent to block student's internet and/or programs and even track their computers. Getting around this was quite simple at first, all it took was the use of a https tunnel (your freedom) and a socks program (socks cap or proxy cap). However, as of late, the admin has decided to block virtually all ports and might be able to block internet to individual physical address or mac addresses, although most likely some ports are left open for the faculty living in the dorms. Unable to physically go to the school servers, I need to find a way to unblock or find ports, from either my computer or one on the school network, so I can once again freely use the incredibly slow school internet. Is there a program or any way to find unblocked ports? Please respond with any suggestions.

Thank You

Hey guys, brand new kid here. Fairly computer literate but not a whiz by any means. I had to do a Windows XP System Recovery on my HP desktop PC a few weeks ago and since then my USB 2.0 ports haven't been themselves.

Before when I used my Kingston 4gb SDHC card in my front USB 2.0 ports (as they're labeled) it worked at full speed with no problems. After the System Recovery, when I plug in the card it gives me a message saying "This device could perform faster if it were plugged into a High Speed USB 2.0 Port." The problem is, my Device Manager lists a high speed port and hub on my computer, but I get the same message on all the ports on my computer. I tried updating the drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling them but to no avail.

A few days ago I installed a USB 3.0 card (to be precise, this one: 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Controller Card - Free Shipping - DealExtreme). It uses the very common NEC ?PD720200 USB 3.0 controller. I installed the required drivers for Windows 7, and the card worked fine for the first day or so. but not since. Whenever I plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive, I get a false "This device can perform faster..." message, as if I had plugged the drive in a USB 2.0 port.

The external drive I am using is a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1130. It is definitely a USB 3.0 drive, and came with the required USB 3.0 cable. While the USB 3.0 card was working, I got full-speed transfers to the limit of the hard drive's ability, about 90-100 MB/s. Now I can only get USB 2.0 speeds (33-34 MB/s). Windows insists I have the drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port even though it is plugged directly into the USB 3.0 card.

Things I tried so far:
-rebooting and complete power cycle. No difference.
-plugging the drive into one port or the other. Also no difference.
-Looked in Device manager. No help there either. The controller is recognized as a USB 3.0 device is using the proper NEC drivers.

Other info that may be important:
-No overclocking settings in use.
-I made sure the cable was plugged in all the way. It's in as far as it can go, but the ports will still only act like USB 2.0 ports.

This is very frustrating. How do I fix it? I might as well throw th... Read more

My daughter has a lot of Barbie CD-ROM games. There is one game she has that is rather old, yet it is really one of her favorites, Barbie's Magic Genie Bottle. This game came with a life-sized magic genie bottle that acted as a joy-stick. It has a motion sensor jewel on the front that you move your hand in front of, and the top comes off. Each of these things perfomed a function in the game.

I'm sure you can imagine the appeal to an 8-year-old little girl

Now, the problem is, I've gotten a.......hmmm....complete system overhaul, I guess you could say. A new, larger hard-drive, new processor and new motherboard. The OLD system had a gameport on the back of the computer. The new one doesn't. It only has USB ports.

Please, SOMEBODY, tell me that there is some sort of adapter, or someway I can make this Genie Bottle work with this system! If any of you have never lived in a house with an 8-year-old, Barbie-obsessed little girl, you have no idea of the drama and histrionics that are occuring here.

Is there any way I can make a Magic Genie Bottle with a gameport plug work with a tower that now only has USB ports???

Somebody please save me!!

My NEC Multisync 1830 LCD monitor has finally quit on me, after about 9 years of perfect service. It has two VGA input ports, with a button switch at the front, and I used it for both my primary and my backup PC. Unfortunately, I can no longer find an LCD monitor with two VGA inputs. Many of them have a Digital Video Interface (DVI) port as well as a VGA port, but neither of my PCs has a DVI output port. I can, as a last resort, install a DVI card in a PCI slot on the motherboard of my primary PC, but that seems a shame. System = Vista Home Preium 32bit

Ive just brought a new computer and it arrived today. I got it from overclockers in the UK and it was their top spec so I was expecting very little compatibility issues. However (!), the computer does not recognize any USB ports at all (there are two front and 4 on the back). I have a wireless broadband setup with a USB flash drive. When I run the disk that came with my wireless setup it tells me that I have no network and i must set one up. Fine, no problem. So in the "connect to a network" section I click "connect to wireless network or access point" I click through to "creat wireless network settings bla bla bla" I enter the system name and receive a "passphrase". THEN, it tells me to plug in the flash drive and select it in the drop down box. Here the fun begins. It doesnt show anything in the drop down menu and having searched all over the PC (like through the Device Manager) I find no reference to USBs. I have checked that they are conected internally and see no reason for the problem. I also tried to install a printer and wirless keyboard with mouse but they remain lifeless. I guess it can only be the USB ports arent recognised.

I have a wireless mouse and USB headphones that worked fine up until a few days ago when they both periodically stopped functioning. 2 days ago they stopped functioning entirely. They work on other computers and nothing connecting to a USB port works with this computer. There is an Unknown Device listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Here's what I've tried:

Did a system restore
Reinstalled all 64-Bit drivers available for my system on the Samsung drivers page
Right-clicked and uninstalled all drivers from Device Manager, then restarted computer
Took laptop battery out, waited 15 minutes, then put it in and started computer
Downloaded USBDeview and uninstalled all drivers listed (curiously, the Unknown Device is listed as not connected and not safe to unplug), then restarted computer
Ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor with mouse and headphones plugged in. No problems found.
Cleaned registry using Registry Mechanic

Does anyone know what else could be done?

Thank you for your time.

A:Unknown Device, no USB ports working, tried everything I could find online

All registry cleaners do damage. Registry Mechanic is among the worse and may have made the problem worse. All registry cleaners do is delete anything they do not understand. That means that anything related to a device that is not on the system may well have been deleted, too, making it impossible to ever install that device again.

Restore the registry, or use System Restore to get an undamaged registry back.

Are you sure there are no physical problems with the USB ports? Any electrical storms lately?

Windows Update released updated USB drivers for both Microsoft and third-parties. If your USB ports are functional, there should be drivers installed automatically if you install all the updates. If not, the problem with the ports may be physical. Also make sure that the BIOS has the correct date and that USB is enabled there (if such a setting exists). If the date is wrong, replace the battery.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

I bought my son a new ABS computer for Christmas (to get him off my computer) and installed all his games on it. Had no problems with the installations but afterwards, two of the games are having trouble finding the CD drive when starting the game. One of the games is "The Sims" and the other I can't remember right now. Anyway, we can put the game disk in the drive (or click the game icon on the desktop), the splash screen pops up to start the game, but once we click "start" we get an error message that says the disk can't be found.

Anyone have this kind of trouble before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Games can't find disk drive

Well, if you have expansion packs for The Sims and installed it, you will need to use The Sims Expansion pack CD instead of the original CD.

I was under the impression Vista was supposed to automatically download game information from and display the game's information when you click on the thumbnail? My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!

A:Games folder doesn't update with information about newly installed games.

It was my understanding that only games with the "Games for Windows" tag will show up in the games folder like you are talking about. I could be wrong tho.

This problem has occurred "somewhat"(I don't know when exactly) recently. I used to be able to play full screen games just fine but now (for some reason), everytime I launch a full screen game, it auto minimizes.

When I alt+tab back(or click the game icon on the task bar), it remaximizes the game but quickly gets minimized after a second.

Games play fine while in "windowed" mode(Warcraft 3, etc).. Full screen keeps minimizing.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit):

Nvidia GeForce 8300(onboard video card).
I've done scans with Avast, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware and they all found nothing.

Three months ago(same system), full screen games played fine however I was on sort of a "full screen" gaming break, so I only recently tried playing full screen games like Warcraft 3 and this is when I encountered the "auto minimizes" problem.

The only major difference(between the time full screen games worked and now) is Avast 5. I upgraded from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5, other than that, there were no other major changes with the computer I am on.

Avast 5 is on Silent/Gaming mode, and I tried disabling all the shields temporarily to see if it would fix the issue but it didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas(or need anymore info that may help)? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Edit: I found a solution(though still looking if there is another way to "fix" this issue) - Right click on a program shortcut(or progr... Read more

I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Does anyone know how to keep the Vista Games Explorer from automatically adding entries for games? I currently have a completely empty VGE and upon launching any of my games via double-clicking their exe, VGE creates a new entry once the game is closed. I already unchecked both "Download information about installed games" and "List most recently played games" in the VGE options window but that didn't help. I have a third party program that lets me add my own custom entries so obviously I'd like to add them manually so I have more control over fine details. I know that the automatically-created entries can be hidden after the fact, but that really clutters up the third party editor since it displays all games in its list, hidden or otherwise. Any thoughts?

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website ( from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch from October 21st 2016. Tried to disable the internal Intel Graphics Card but e.g. Battlefield 1 is then compla... I started getting BSOD in August, but I fixed it on Sept 9th by updating my ethernet card. And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. I had the latest graphic driver, but I went back a version of the driver to see if that solved anything, but it didnt. Attached is a couple of my blue screen reports. Any help is appreciated!

Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.

Within the last few months my computer has been having cpu spikes to close to 100% when I play games. Generally this happens within three minutes of booting up the game. I've tried multiple fixes including some I've read in other threads on this site but so far I haven't had any luck. It's an hp dv7-2270us (a little over a year old)Processor is an intel Core 2 Quad CPU 9000 @ 2 Ghz. I have 4 gigs of ram.

Just a few things out of the way

Graphical intensity of the game is irrelvant. It happens to World of Warcraft, it happens to Team Fortress 2, it happens to Portal 2, Magicka. Windowed mode does not alter the problem at all. Runnig in window mode and adjusting video settings do not help. It also will occasionally happen while watching Hulu but this is rare. It will happen when using Adobe Premiere CS5 on occassion (probably two or three times every hour).

When runnign through taskmanager I see nothing out of the ordinary taking up CPU. The only noteworthy thing I spot is that when teh spike occurs is that the game itself suddenly increase it's cpu use by about 50-75% (i.e. it's running at 25% and then suddenly jumps to 40% or therabouts) - surpassing the CPU listing for System Idle Process.

Edit: Forgot to mention - I have run OneLiveCare and Norton security - both of wihch have turned up nothing in virus or malware.
Edit 2: Forgot to also mention - I've tried updating drivers, divx, checked windows update, rolled back drivers, unin... Read more

Wasnt sure whether to post here or in the game section, but seeing as it seems to be a problem with every game installed figured it must be a system issue rather than game specific (the problem is the same whether its a steam, origin or disk based game).
Bascially, every game installed loads fine but doesnt give the option to load saved games. The saves are there in the documents, it seems the programs just cant connect with them is there some kind of generic windows launcher or something that each game would use to load a save? done various scans nothing untoward has come up, just cant understand why something would happen with every single one

maybe just a coincidence but the desktop icons seem to have moved themselves, and all autofills and bookmarks disappeared at the same time..

any help would be appreciated, thanks

This problem doesn't happen with anything else and does not crash if i play in windowed or border-less, however i use a crossfire setup so i need to use fullscreen to use both GPUs.

It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

A:X-Box Games app and Games for Windows Live account merge?

Well, yeah I was hoping that would happen but at this time there is no merging yet but maybe in the future.
The Xbox games app shows your profile and scores and that is about it. I figure the reason is the games you bought are not Metro Apps which still uses a Client. Maybe the Client would be updated to Xbox Games instead since the client is not in the metro app thing.

I can say the Client works:

All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

The download box gave no choice of where to send the download--just said "C:\Documents~ \Hoyle Card Games," and I couldn't expand it to find out where the setup program is. Windows "Search" function couldn't find anything, although the smaller program I had to use to download the game demo was sitting right there inside a folder on my desktop. Maybe something is wrong with Search, but I have no idea how to fix it.
Every time I clicked on the "fetch" icon for this program, hoping to find a way to see where the setup files had been downloaded to, I got the message that they were being "extracted," but before the extraction (and to where?!) could be completed, my computer hung and I had to press the on/off button to turn it off, so I really want to get rid of this file. Of course, it is not listed in Add Remove or among my program files, so I have no access to its Uninstall. It is supposedly taking up 510.15MB of my hard disk somewhere. I used System Restore to go back a day to before I had anything to do with Hoyle Card Games, and now that original "fetch" icon is gone, but presumably the thing is still eating up space.
I am really disgusted. Can anyone please help?

Am I pretty safe in going back and using places such as MSNgames, Yahoo games, etc. and playing the online versions? I feel they are pretty reputable sites, but want to make sure so I don't get into the "problems" again.

Also, my kids are signed up on toontown thru - we have paid for one month (only 4.95) but I don't want them to access it again, without knowing my computer is safe in those sites?

This problem just started today. The games explorer will not start a new game; it will only try to start saved games (even when there are no saved games). I checked all of the settings and could find nothing that should cause this behavior. The only way I can start a new game is to go the the exe file and start from there. I suppose I could start a saved game, if any, and then go to the menu and start a new game from there. However, I would like to fix this problem. I have a Dell furnished CD for Windows Vista, but I don't know if one can reinstall only the games. I surely do not want to reinstall the OS.

A:Vista Games All Want to Start Saved Games

I just discovered I have the exact same problem. I have Vista Ultimate (x64). Played Spider Solitaire last night, now it is gone.

Gee, could have something to do with the 17 MS updates that were installed last night?

I was wondering about that if there's a some kind of conflict, or penalty if i want to play an original game on live (steam download) and later play another one but it's cracked. Let me explain i have some original games but i have one cracked that use games 4 windows, but i played it just offline so i don't have the need to go live with this one. The thing is that i uninstalled it long ago, but i want to play it again, so....if i install it again to play offline, would be a problem, conflict or penalty (like permanent ban or something) with my original games that i play online?
Need some answers please.

A:Cracked games conflict - Games for Windows

We can't help with cracked games.
If the game was originally registered on steam, then it is
still there.
All you have to do is install steam, login to your account and download it from "my games".

Hi! I've been having crashes for a while now. It seems the BSOD's happen when the GPU load is high(i.e. when playing games), but sometimes my PC has crashed on desktop or when browsing on the internet.

I have searched around on the internet to try to find some solutions. I've tried uninstalling drivers and do a clean install. I have run the windows memory diagnostics tool, which found nothing. I have checked tempratures after crashes (in BIOS, with OpenHardwareMonitor and by touching the heatsinks), and tempratures where around 30-40C.

I have tried running with the standard VGA compatible drivers, still crashed. I have run a stress test with FurMark 3 times, which causes crashes instantly. I have tried running with my brothers (working) graphics card, still crashes.

There must be something in my PC that doesn't work, but I don't know how to determine what it is.

How do I get all my games to appear in the Games app in Windows 8. I have a few games in Steam and they don't appear in the Games Win 8 App.

A:Steam games in the Games application

The Games app is really intended for Microsoft downloaded games; I don't believe there is any way to put your Steam games here. However, if you would like to use the Games library that was in Win7, it carried over to 8, although it does not have a Metro
application. If you need me to help you with that I can.

Ok guys I'm new to the site, I've been having lots of problems with my new computer and a friend said you guys might be able to help me.

Well I just bought a new Computer a clone made by a local computer store.
It's spects are
Windows Xp Home SP2
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
512 mb ram
Ati Radeon 9800 pro 128 With Catalyst 4.9

Anyways here is my problems
I went out and bought Sims 2, Nhl 2005, and Madden 2005 and I'm having problems with every one

with sims 2 the gameplay is not extremely smooth, but I find no matter what I always end up getting a crash message reading "This Application has crashed, this process will be terminated" i get it either in the first 5 minutes or through 2 hours, but everytime I play it usually crashes.

ok with Nhl 2005 the game plays great on the highest resolution, but sometimes just for kicks i get booted to windows without and messages...or sometimes it even reboots my system again with no message. Most of the time when this happends is when I'm exiting a game to the menu screen. Like I find when I transist from game to menu it like changes the screen and I can see my background for a bit.

With madden the game just runs very slow, even on low resolutions with everything turned down. The textures on teh white jerseys look flickery and the field lines are also jumpy.

Now I brought my computer back to the... Read more

It doesn't happen often but sometimes it freezes for a second while loading a certain game which works fine on another day and gives BSOD. Sometimes it happens after I've loaded the game and am in the moment of playing. My hardware is more than enough for the games I run and I even run them on low-mid even though I can manage high settings. The games I usually run are CS:GO, League of Legends and Modern Warfare 3 [rarely play; received 1 BSOD while loading it]

I've uploaded my dump files.

Thank you.

Inside of games, my computer is awesome. Once the game is over, nothing is fast. OS: Vista is infamous for its constant annoyance to the user. This is somewhat unlikely, but it could be Vista slowing you down. I recommend upgrading to Win7 regardless.

Processor: The processor seems alright, so you're not having troubles there.

RAM: You may want to consider a RAM upgrade, as many applications (including games) do tend to stick around in memory until a restart. I'd have to say the lack of RAM is your issue. It shouldn't take much more, maybe another 1GB-2GB should fix it up.

Graphics: Nice graphics card, by the way. Beats mine ._.
AntiVirus: Well, the fact that you're careful on the Internet does NOT protect you from viruses. Not at all. I strongly recommend installing Avast! Also, I recommend installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and give your computer a nice scan with both of them.

It started yesterday when I attempted to launch a game (Civilization V) through Steam and got the BSOD error. I uninstalled and re-installed Steam, my graphics drivers, everything I can possibly think of, including a general fix Steam itself responded to me with (which was completely unspecific to my issue - they clearly can't be bothered), and I am to the point where I have asked for a refund for my games, because it is just that hopeless.

In a last ditch effort to get my computer straight, I downloaded BlueScreenView, and this is what it has told me; Mind you, there are multiple errors.

From this afternoon (before driver re-install and disc check):
- File names listed as issues: ntoskrnl.exe and tcpip.sys
I also had this issue last night

More recently (after all of my "fixes"):
- File names listed as issues: athrx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe (again)

Even in older crashes, ntoskrnl.exe has been listed as an issue, and I don't have enough knowledge of this sort of thing to have any idea what this means! Is there hope for me?

My problem is, I can play offline games like GTA4, COD Modern Warfare and COS WAW with sound on it, nevertheless, whenever I started to go online with these games, the sound vanished, even if I exit the game there is still no sound, I need to reboot the system to get back the sound. Got no error whatsoever. What would be the problem. My OS is windows xp pro? Please help!

A:Solved: No sound during online games, but with sound in offline games.

I just flushed my bios from 1.3 to 1.5 then it works flawlessly. Solved my case on my own.

Hi All - I was under the impression that the Games App on my Windows 8 Pro desktop and on my Surface would work in a similar fashion to my windows 8 phone's game app. Whereas all games are located and tracked in the app. Unless I'm missing something the Games App in Windows 8 only tracks and catalogs Xbox games. I have to keep all other games pinned to the start screen. Please tell me I'm missing something! I can understand if I'm not downloading a game from the windows store that it wouldn't automatically be picked up by the games app but I really thought all "Metro Games" would.

Thanks for your help!

A:Games App and non Xbox games

in the games app, you have:
friends: which is your xbox friends and windows friendsspotlight: which is both xbox and windowsgame activity: which is also xbox only, I thinkwindows games store: which is your windows stuff. you can launch your windows games from this if it's already installed on your system. like I can launch jetpack joyride. I'm not sure if you can customize it or not which is a 360 games store: which is xbox only

In continuation of my computer problems (previous issue: BSOD- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED while computer is running - Windows 10 Forums), now I am getting poor performance most of the time from all games 30-40fps in games which I previously got 60-100fps on same settings. There is little to no performance difference between different graphics settings. The poor performance isn't just noticeable in games, but also in normal use of the computer. Stuff like: selecting icons on the desktop, the blue rectangle that resizes is really laggy; dragging windows around my monitors; watching videos on YouTube from Chrome (especially putting in fullscreen and watching in 1080p+). The only time I get good performance is whenever the computer feels like it. There is no reason that I have found for when this happens.

OK, basically whenever I play a game (lately Dawn of War: Winter Assault if curious) in at most 20 minutes, my computer will either
a.) exit game and return to windows citing some error with game or
b.) restart citing error by 'unknown device driver' which is likely my video card.

As you can imagine, both are *highly* annoying. Same problem occured on previous system, which had:

Windows XP Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Soyo Dragon II plus MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM
Audigy II Platinum

and the new system:

Windows XP Pro
BFG 6800 GT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT <-same as previous
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM <-same as previous
Audigy II Platinum <-same as previous

ATI said it was obviously my fault, and BFG says it might be the card, but since it occured on two systems I can't see why. Could it be the memory/pentium/soundcard/harddrive?

Why would it randomly crash all the time? I can provide any more information as required to assist the diagnosis.

I'm a senior in Aerospace Engineering and damn do I need to relax after a long day of crappy homework, so any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Serious problem with games... all games

Well. since it's not vid card biased, perhaps it's the game? Are there any updates to the game?

Check your power plan settings if they limit the FPS. An easy option is to just set it to high performance power plan. Hope this helped!
