Ragnarok online crashes my computer

Q: Ragnarok online crashes my computer

I have been playing Ragnarok online for the past 2 months. About 2 weeks back, my computer crashed while playing and refused to start. I was getting ramdom errors..either in the Bios screen, while windows was loading[BSD] or when it somehow started, reboots. Then, the whole drive was automatically formatted.

NOw I have reformatted the whole drive all over again and reinstalled XP and Ragnarok. Still, if I start playing Ragnorok, my computer reboots after 20 minutes..and hangs in the bios screen itself. I have to leave my computer alone for like 1 hour before I can reuse my computer. I know it is not due to overheating as I can play any other heavy duty game easily for hours. Morever, the overheat shutdown has been disabled in the bios

My configuration

Fujitsu Computer
AMD XP 1800 series
Windows XP SP1
512 MB ram
Geforce 2 Ti [64MB ram]
Direct X 9c
80+40Gb HDs

Hello there. Welcome to TSG.

First thing, disabling the overheat shutoff in bios is not a real good idea. It's there to protect your components from going up in smoke.

Second, what your describing almost sounds more like a Motherboard or memory problem, or possibly hardware conflict. What were the error messages that you were receiving?

Unsure what is causing these but has happened 4+ times on wizardry and once on Ragnarok, most other games don't seem to cause any problems. I've attached the files I received from the SF Diagnostic Tool as a zip. Can anyone help me?

May I ask you some questions before we start?

Earlier you had a nvidia GPU? The crash dumps upto 01.04.2013 indicates to nvidia GPU (a very known issue it was).

BugCheck C4, {91, 2, fffff80003604cc0, 0}

Probably due to those crashes you changed the GPU? The crashes of 24.04.2013 onwards are indicating to ATI GPU. This is also a very known issue, but a worst one. Let us discuss.

BugCheck A0000001, {5, 0, 0, 0}

It is a bugcheck inherent with the ATI drivers. Universal. We dont know why it happens (AMD keeps it private). But we may try to troubleshoot.

Have you updated the display driver in between? If so, roll back to the earlier driver that worked good there.
Device Manager - Roll Back Driver

If not, uninstall the ATI/AMD display driver in Control Panel > Programs and features. Then follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling

When done, download an earlier version of display driver from AMD Graphics Drivers & Software . Dont install CCC.

Does it work? If not, better you RMA the ATI GPU, as it is a new one.

On a serious side note, using two real time protection programs are harmful.

Hello, my name Jeremy and I need some help to deal with this kind of error, hang , or maybe an app crash. Here's the information:

The game name is Ragnarok Online and I play in my local private server. When I run my the game launcher it works and then the error appears here's the message:

Tittle: Farewell Ragnarok.exe - Application Error
Messages: The exception Privileged instruction.
(0x0000096) occured in the application at location 0x0086f002.

Whenever I do the same it always appear. I tried to open the official server to try if the game is working so that's means its something wrong from the private server files. When I tried to open the official one shows error message like this:

Tittle: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Messages: Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Gravity\Ragnarok Online\Ragnarok.exe
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I've got already the M. Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and M. Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17.
I've tried to re-installing the game and the re-patching the private server files and it seems not fixed. Please I really need help, thank you so much for your time and if you need more detail information please ask I'll answer it.

A:Game crashing - Ragnarok Online

So when you install a clean version of RO - no private server patches - and you attempt to run it onto official server, it still crashes? If so, something is making me think your RO installation package was not downloaded properly and is corrupt. I've looked it up a bit and some people have actually had results by going to uninstall RO and instead tell it to Repair instead of Remove.

If you haven't done the clean install and startup of RO, go ahead and do so. If it still crashes, do the following:
Grab Procdump
Extract it to a folder, then open up that folder in command prompt.
type following: procdump -e -ma -w ragexe.exe ROdump.dmp
Procdump should be primed to trigger now. Open up RO and when it crashes Procdump should detect and dump a file.
Zip file and upload to a 3rd party site like

Now, ragexe.exe is what I assume is the name of the RO executable that is crashing. If it's different, alter the name accordingly in the command. The dump file should be produced in the folder with Procdump in it.

Hello! I am very new to this whole shebang so, forgive me if I don't have everything super straight.

Recently, I downloaded and installed an old game favorite of mine, called Ragnarok Online. Originally made in 2000, the game is advised to run on XP or Vista. I do, however, have many friends whom run this game on Windows 7 just fine.

After installing this game and allowing it to patch, I entered the game with no problems. During gameplay however, my system began to blue screen whenever I would either
A: ) Attack a monster
or B: )Load a new screen

I have more than one character, and the problem has occurred on 2 out of three of them.

I have attempted these things to fix this situation:
A: )Uninstall the game and it's components and Reinstall it/repatch it.
B: )Clean my Registry
C: )Change my graphics card (My first one was dying anyway, and I had thought that, that might be the problem.)
D: )Download the Catalyst system driver for my new Graphics card (It is an ATI Radeon HD 4800)

None of these things have fixed my problem. I have included the folder of my minidump. My computer would for some reason not allow me to save my Performance Data however, so I do apologize. If you have any ideas for that, please let me know and I will get that to you as well.

windrvnt.sys is a file associated with a program called FolderLock, do you have that program installed? If you do, I would try turning it off, or removing it.

Otherwise, try renaming the file windrvnt.sys to something else so that it can't try to access it. It's not a required Windows file, so you can rename it, and if something else messes up, you can just rename it back.

Can someone help me please. I am at my wits end! I have intermittant crashes (I think only online). I have disabled Automatic Restart but it still usually reboots. I do not get the BsoD.

The Event Viewer shows the Error ID as always 7000. There are 2 parts Source: Service Control Manager. Message "The Service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it" The first part of the message refers to "The Panasonic Digital Palmcorder Service" which I haven't got and the second part to the USB Flatbed Scanner Service. I uninstalled my scanner but the problem was still there. I reinstalled but no difference.

Ihave tried to read all your messages about restarts but I can't always stay online! It seems to happen mostly when I use the long bar to go up the scroller on the RHS but sometimes just when I click on something

I have run Spybot and AVG (both updated) but no viruses. My OS is Windows XPO Pro

I am not very knowledeable so if you can help could you put it simply please?!!

Many thanks

My sons installed HalfLife-Counterstrike today. When trying to play on the internet, the game just freezes at the splash screen and the computer locks up - no ctrl-alt-del, no end program in task manager, nothing works. I had to do a hard shut-down twice today. This also happened last night when they went to Game (Not playing Half-Life, just games there). My stats are as follows:

P4 2.0 GHz
512 MB RAM
NVidia mx 440 (64 MB RAM)
KDS 19" Flat monitor
Cabel Modem (Road Runner)
Asus P4S533 mb
Zone Alarm (free)
Spy Bot
Norton Utilities

Also: when the splash screen appears, the screen resolution seems lower. I have mine set to 800x600 - this seems even lower even though I do not have the option for a lower setting.

Games like that, but when I try to play games like ACE Online, WoW, Cabal Online, and basically any 3d online game. The computer crashes after a random amount of time. It freezes with a black screen and had a stutter sound of the last sound played.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a problem like this? It all started happening after my Ethernet port started acting up. (Unidentified Network). I'm currently using a wireless connection (seperate, netgear) to get online.

I'm still trying to figure out what the main problems are.. I've narrowed it down to either.. JAVA problems, my Graphic Cards are having a problem with these games.. (which I doubt..), or it has something to do with the Ethernet ports.

NOTE: It's mainly when playing directly from the network, AKA not private servers. Usually private servers do not cause my computer to crash.

Without actual minidumps or Blue Screen error codes I would guess your suspicions are correct. It sounds like either a) you need to update your ethernet/NIC card drivers or b) you have a failing NIC card.

have searches this forum for above topics but have not seen this problem posted b4. Any time I click on a video on any site (or if it autoplays) the screen freezes, there is one beep, then it closes to a black screen. This was not happening until recently - videos ran OK. Also I can play video games so guess it is not the video card. No error message.

Do you have a firewall? If not, that's the first thing to install. You can enable the XP firewall, it's probably sufficient for incoming threats.

Hello guys

I have a problem with Eve Online. As some of you may know, this game does not offer in-game option to activate the Anti Aliasing feature. However, it seems possible to force AA using the video card's control panel: this method seems to work for everyone.

However, if i activate AA my client just closes itself suddenly. Not immediately, but at random. It can happen after 5 seconds or 5 minutes. I can't figure out what causes the crashing.

Is there a way to discover the problem?

My video card is an Ati Radeon X1950, and i'm running the latest version of Omega Drivers. I already tried to install the latest Ati Catalyst but the problem persisted.

Please let me know what information you need, and if you can help me.

Thanks a lot in advance

I Googled a bit and read that some people have had problems with Earthlink and some internet services.

Try using another antivirus to see if it resolves your problem : download Avast, disconnect from the internet, uninstall Earthlink and any other related software (toolbar, total access, ...), then check that there are no leftovers : enable "show hidden files and folders" in the tools => fodler options => view menu of windows explorer, and delete this folder :
C:\Documents & Settings\Owner\Application Data\Earthlink\
and any other folder with Earhlink in it (check in c:\program files also)

Install Avast, and retry to go online. You'll most certainly need to reboot at some point. After Avast is installed, you'll have to register it to get a valid key, but don't worry it's free for the home edition.

If changing the antivirus didn't work, you could try reinstalling your network drivers. If the network controller is integrated in the motherboard, check on the motherboard manufacturer's site for driver updates.

When I am online I assume it is Vista that crashes, it used to just happen when watching videos, but now it does more often even if I'm not watching a video, the screen goes black or what ever color happens to be in the background of the webpage I'm on, I have to shut it down and restart it, sometimes it takes at least 10 minutes to boot back up after that, please anyone have a clue what this could be?

A:Vista Crashes when online

I would recommend doing a disk defrag and cleanup to start. Then I would go to start>run>then type msconfig and run it to modify which programs run at boot. Following these steps should help improve the speed of the computer and reduce the amount of hangups.

when running EVE online my computer will randomly crash, show a blue wall of code(too fast to read any of it) and restart. then Microsoft help tells me my computer just recovered from an error related to my audio driver. i have updated my driver 5 times from both the manufacturer and Microsoft and still have the problem. i have a realtek HD audio driver (which is supposedly fully compatible with EVE) i have tried everything i can think of with no results.

A:Solved: EVE online crashes without warning

Have you tried turning the audio hardware acceleration off ingame to see if that makes any difference. Not sure if thats exactly what its called but its on the Audio menu right below the tick box to turn audio on/off.

I suspect this is either a hardware or software problem on my computer, since it does not matter what website I am on. Whenever I try to view video with either Real player or Windows media player I get a blue screen for about 5 seconds and then the computer reboots on its own. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello everyone, been having this issues for a long time. Though I've recently been trying to pinpoint exactly what's going wrong since I really like this computer and want to play more Steam. Sometimes when I'm watching a video, for example, it'll stall and the BSOD pops up but restarts so quickly, I don't have time to see what the code was. Other times, it'll just stop mid-game, flash on screen, restart etc.

Now, this is one BSOD I get, I also get another one citing "IRQL equal not equal", but if anything, any help is appreciated.

I've encountered an error as I've been trying to play Ragnarok! I'm trying to get onto the ImpactRO Brazil server, and I'm pretty sure I've installed everything that's needed.

The error is a window that comes up. It says:

I have no idea what any of it means! Could it be due to a missing file or something?

Please help! End my headache...

Ye, this problem is not browser specific(i have tested it with iexplorer and firefox).

here is what happens:
1.) I go to a website with streaming videos(ex:
2.) I click to watch a video
3.) When the video window pops up and starts to load another error window pops up stating the following:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error signature - AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00033869

4.)then when i click ok on the error window, it closes the video and the browser.

EDIT: I thought i should add that I am currently running Windows XP MCE on my Toshiba Satellite A105-S4134. the crash occurred on both internet explorer and firefox.

I have been having problems with my web browser (firefox) crashing randomly and displaying some sites as a 1x1 pixellled jpeg. I'm not sure if it is related or not, but commonly this results in my laptop freezing and having to re-start.

I was using Kaspersky as my antivirus but this showed nothing when performing full scans. I have uninstalled this and am now using Trend Micro. Spybot found 2 trojans and removed them (I can't remember what they were called) but the problem still persists.

My system restore points have mysteriously dissapeared too.

I have tried using ESET online scanner but this crashes after getting around 3/4 of the way through and causes my system to restart.

Following your sites advice before posting I downloaded and attempted to run the DDS tool, which after 5 mins or so told me the batrch files could not be found.

I think I have covered all the problems that I have been having.

Please contact me should you need further information.

Eagerly awaiting your response.

A:Vista crashes when trying online virus scans

If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead. Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program. If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days). When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop, with A8. When it crashes it says there was a system thread exception not handled for atikmdag.sys.

This crash just happened today.

A:Windows 8.1 (AMD), crashes when playing online video

Hi beneficii,

The crashes are mostly caused due to the GPU driver ATI Video driver ( atikmdag.sys) and 1 by a touchpad driver called SynTP.sys
Please check your manufacturers site for updates for AMD GPU drivers and the touchpad.
If the drivers for the AMD GPU are already up to date, try to remove the Catalyst Control Center and only install the Display Driver.

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me with a irritating problem I have recently been having.

I have subscribing to Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) in Europe for almost 2 years now. About 7 weeks ago I started having pc crashes while in the game.

When I interrogate the minidump file, it shows the crash always happens at 2 hours and 2 minutes +/- a few seconds.

If I run the pc with other applications, I have no crash problems so long as I havent run DDO previously. As soon as I run DDO, the timer seems to start and 2 hours, 2 minutes later, bye bye pc.

To try and rule out driver issues, I have updates both the graphics card and sound drivers to no avail, the crashes still occur.

Also, I recently cleaned my fan filters to alleviate any heat problems that may be causing the crash.

Please note the pc has had no hardware changes for the past 9 month since I increased my system ram from 1 Gb to 2.25 Gb. After the increase I have not had any problems until 7 weeks ago as stated above.

Can anyone help me with this problem please?

All advice and assistance is greatfully recieved.

Many thanks

Hello. I need your advice or assistance with a specific issue.

When I play long videos on YouTube (Say over 5 minutes long.) sometimes (not always) I get an issue with the video playing at the near or the end of the video.

These are the sequence of steps of what is happening near the end or a later part of the playing video:

1. Video usually instantly freezes (as a still image) while the sound is still being played. Mouse and keyboard (sometimes) not responsive and other times I can move the mouse, but none of the buttons like closing the web browser will close. This can last 1-2 seconds. I notice at times too when I click on another system activity, for example clicking on another tab in the browser while the video is playing, this video freeze will happen instantly in a longer playing video too.

2. After the frozen still image which lasts for 1-2 seconds , the screen flashes quickly black a couple of times for a total time of 1-2 seconds.

3. After the brief black screen flashes, I get the screen clipping I have attached here (see below). The video screen is solid green, and the message from the notification area stating, "Display driver stopped responding and had recovered. Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The mouse and keyboard are fully operational at step 3. The video will not respond. Obviously, video play cannot be resumed. I have to close the browser window and start all over again if I want to... Read more

A:Online Video Playing Issues -- Freezes & Crashes???

The green video is a known bug with Flash. It isn't AMD or Nvidia specific and can happen on either equally. It can also happen from one driver update to the next, with no real rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens.

Not sure that I have ever seen what exactly causes it or if it will ever be fixed. That said one of the fixes for it is to disable the hardware acceleration support in Flash. Just right click on the video (normal or green) and select settings, then uncheck "enable hardware acceleration". Refresh the page and it should be OK.

That should take care of the green video problem and hopefully also fix the other problems with flash videos crashing the driver.

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... I have seen this asked a number of times, and quite a few were solved. I went through about 10 posts so far on this subject. I have a Windows XP network with 6 computers hardwired and several laptops on wireless. All the computers are networked together with no problems sharing files, printers and scanners, most are online with our Telus Internet.
One of the hardwired computers refuses to connect to the internet. I have checked IP addresses for conflicts, released and renewed the IP, rebooted several times and pinged every other computer successfully on the network (including the hub). I even removed Microsoft Security essentials as one solved solution said that Virus protection might solve a problem. I had installed it by downloading the setup on another computer and moving it with a thumb drive..
The computers all have a fresh install of Windows XP and MS Security Essentials is the only Virus protection on all of them. It still will not connect and it is very frustrating.

It could be spy/ad-ware trying to phone home or it could be your eMail client set to automatically check for new mail and dial up (connect) if there is no current connection.

First, you get, then install, then update, and finally run Spybot S&D (go HERE). Read the documentation. This will clean out virtually all spy/ad-ware. If the problem persists we will have to look for another answer - but be sure to check all your eMail options.

Okay, this is my first time on here so I'll try to explain this as best I can. Let's see here, I have a cable modem, a 3COM router, and four computers on my network (3 PC's: 2 running WIN 98, and one running WIN ME, and a macintosh running OS 9.1.) The other night my link light on my cable modem went off and I had no activity light. Thinking it was the ISP, I shrugged it off until the next day. The next day I got up and played around with things trying to get them to work. With no luck, I decided to call the ISP to see if the server might be down. The tech support guy told me all my settings were correct and that he thought the ethernet card in my computer was bad. Well since I was hooked through the router and none of the other computers on the LAN worked I knew it wasn't that. I continued to play around trying to figure out what was wrong, and things just kept getting weirder. To make a long, frustrating story short, here's where I'm at right now. I have ruled out that the cable modem is fine. I'm thinking it might be the router, but this is why I'm not sure. There is one cable that works, it gives me a link light on the back of the cable modem, and it gives me a light on the router no matter which port I plug it into. So, I thought by some odd chance that all the rest of my cables had somehow all the sudden gone bad and they all went bad at the same exact time...except for this one cable. So thinking it was all bad cables (except for... Read more

There is no way that I can see for a router to short out a cable. It would take one heck of a voltage to burn and short out those cables and ends.
I am thinking that something has happened inside the router.

Have you tried that working cable with the other computers? Have you tried one of those cables with the computer that was working?

Have you checked the settings inside the router? I have never used the 3com, but all the others that I have seen usually have some sort of web based tool so you can configure the router. And I suspect that 3com would also, since other networking components of thiers allow this.

Windows 7 desktop computer shows all the signs of being online, but it isn't? Checked all the settings and everything seems to be fine. When I try to open Google or any online program it states "This web page not available - DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET"
I've checked the "Local Area Connection", disconnected and reconnected, but still doesn't connect to the internet.
How can the computer "think" it's online, but it isn't!?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thank you..

I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when there isn't anything active and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted then several times a day to clear the memory back down but within a few hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted.
I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with the following problem:

A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

This afternoon, my computer began crashing whenever I try to open one of the more important files, like my computer or the control panel. Everything works correctly on safe mode, and I've tried driver verification, but there's upwards of 200 unregistered drivers, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Are there any drivers I should look for to move away from the system32 folder? Or is there any other way to solve this?

Also, I haven't installed any new software recently.

I have been having a long running problem with my computer. It started out as a lack of internet access which turned out tI o be a bad virus. I fixed that problem by doing a complete reformat of my system. I thought that that would fix the problem and it did for a bit.

After a week or so I started having BSOD. I went to a computer shop and we went to work on the issue. The BSOD's were showing that there was an error with my sata connection. I replaced the cables. The problem kept happening, so I replaced the motherboard and hard drive with a complete reformat again. Then I continued to have the same issues which included crashes, disappearing icons, weird error messages (x86 errors) and once in a while a BSOD. The BSOD's all say there's still an error with the sata connection.

I then decided to replace the power supply and upgraded to an evga 1300 watt. I replaced my case as well to a bigger one. I even replaced the ram sticks That seemed to fix the problems for a while and the BSOD's became very rare, but after a lot of use the weird error messages became very common. I really can't use the computer any more. I'm typing this on my laptop.

The computer shop I go to say's this is probably a hardware issue. They can't seem to figure it out. I've had it in multiple times. This is a nightmare for a computer owner. I have replaced virtually all the parts and my computer is still utterly unusable. The only program I installed since the last reformat wa... Read more

Well, you SHOULDN'T have played with drivers...That is what's up.
Tried re-formatting AFTER doing those changes?
That computer shop owner though...I don't know what to say.
1) try reformatting to a version that is supported by the bios..(Check if it supports x64)...(fully ready)
2) post every error you get and attempt to find solution to each one. (Getting tired)
3) Can you mention WHEN did certain errors happen? before...after changing Processor and Graphic Card? (Getting worried)
4) Try lots of thing on the web. (hope time)
5) Revert back to the old virtual stuff. (shameful return)
6) take off the good pieces and attempt to use it on another computer or sell it. (Hopeless)

Not quite sure when this started, but around 6-8 weeks ago. At the onset when I go online(ie11), everything seems to be quick while general browsing and even playing a vid in youtube or live leak, and even playing my online miniclip pool game. The issue I'm having is that if the computer is left sitting for a length of time(20-30min or more), the computers response time is extremely slow(dialup speed and slower or no response at all). I have done quite a few clean installs in hopes. Everything within explorer is working at it's normalcy. I even went and purchased a new usb wifi adapter to test, but computer is still the same. I used hot cpu overnight to test some aspects of the pc and cpu is fine. Nothing abnormal in device manager. I still have yet to do a mem86 test overnight. I'm kinda leaning toward memory or gpu(I dunno). This is an old desktop(emachines el1300g-02w with 4g mem), but it is only used for basic stuff youtube vids, and online miniclip pool like I had said. No gaming whatsoever. I don't have the $$$ to invest in a new computer. I will be willing to buy a cheap graphics card or memory if that's the issue. Maybe someone can give some ideas about this? Many thanks. Don

A few weeks ago my computer started to act strange. After about 1 minute of being online my computer most of the time either pops up a window saying that NT Authority is shutting it down or it simply just reboots. I know this sounds a lot like the w32 virus but I have done a complete scan with Norton 2004 when I first noted this problem and since then I have upgraded to the latest Mcafee Security Suite and also did a full system scan with this and nothing comes up. Xsoft has also been used but everything that was detected was also deleted with no help to my problem. CPU temps is running at about 55 celsius so I dont think it is overheating. When Norton was running there was another thing going on that makes me think there is some trojan on my computer and that is suddenly a lot of email alerts were coming up on norton as being scanned with most being blocked. There are no records of sent mails in my outlook and I cant see any background programs sending mail either...I have now posted my Hijackthis log file and I hope someone can spot something there that might help me. Last I also ran the stinger program to remove any w32 viruses but nothing was detected again.

I have a system set-up that is 95% used only to edit MiniDV to DVD.
Has a P4 1.7 / 1GB ram, two HDDs, etc.
I did a fresh install of XP+SP2 over the weekend.
Worked through a monitor issue with the great Sarkast (thanks again).
The computer was only online long enough to update XP, McAfee, Spybot, etc. etc.
Ran all of these and more to make sure all was "safe".
As I recall Spybot found Doubleclick (funny as the computer was only online for a few hours and only to MS, etc. sites above)
{I was also at for a few downloads, I bet he did this to me }
Once everything I needed was downloaded I took it off-line.
It worked no problem until today?
Still starts no problem.
Then after about 3-5 use it starts to freeze up....
From this point on I get a few seconds of use and then a min.+ freeze.
I tried to check a few things out in Everast but it just keeps freezing up?
Ctrl-Alt-Del shows at first....
Pro=26 / CPU usage = 5% & then around once a min. the CPU usage spike to 95%?
I'm guessing this is simple but where should I start?

A:XP freeze, computer not online

Easiest thing to do is go backwards while waiting for someone smarter than me to give you an exact solution.

Uninstall items one at a time and see what happens.

Make sure you visit each site of each harware piece you have and update drivers for possible issues with SP2.

This should be a good start.

Good luck.

This is my first time here on the forums, and i have a question. Obviously.

I have a Dell 540s that i have had since 08 and it has never given me any real problems. Recently, however, it has started to blue screen and the message said something about how the bios will not work with the acpi. I forget exactly what it said. I ignored it for a while as it would only blue screen occasionally and i would rather play my games than try to fix it. lol. The problem has gotten worse and it is now to the point where i had to run startup repair because windows is failing to start. I tried the system restore option that it gave me during the repair and windows started, but soon after i got a blue screen that said PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. This blue screen was only available for precious seconds while i snapped a photo so i could actually see and comprehend what it said before it rebooted.

I booted from the cd and ran a memory test. I got to the third one down which is the WCMch Test and received a "memory compare error"

I then ran the full computer scan but nothing was wrong except i could not hear some of the audio it was playing.

Anyone have any idea as to what i can do to fix my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

hey! I hope this is the correct place to post. My computer online scan pops up occasionally, and when I scan with malwarebytes and spybot sd 1.6.2 they don't see any threats. Is this due to settings in java (I'm using firefox), or some type of tracking code, or something else? I have a hijack this log I'd like to include when asked.... thanks

WHat would I need to purchase in order to make this dream come true? And how much would it cost me? Also what would I have to do? Thanks In advance I think this should be an easy one to answer.

I have 2 computers attached to a linksys router.

The computers are online but can't ping each other, and I can browse the other computer and access the shared files.

Under sharing and discovery on both I have
Network discovery on
File Sharing on
Public folder sharing on
Password Protected sharing off

Do you know what I need to do?

Make sure you have both PCs set to allow full administration access across the network, about the only thing I can think of right now but my brain is fried from a 10 hour day.

This has occurred only since you guys helped me get rid of malware. I then uninstalled BitDefender. Installed AVASt & Outpost- computer rebooted itself- uninstalled AVAST. Tried another antivirus - same thing. Uninstalled it.
Uninstalled Outpost firewall. Activated Windows firewall. same thing - computer rebooted itself when online.

Currently have AVG antivirus & Outpost firewall. Computer stills reboots itself.
I've cleaned it with compressed air. Computer lets me stay online about 10-15 minutes then reboots itself - no warnings. Screen goes blank & computer reboots itself.

Do I have another malware????

Please help (I tried help at Windows XP but was only told to use compressed air & now that thread is no longer there - wasn't even closed. ????)

If I click on the IE shortcut on my taskbar I'm prompted with my ADSL window to connect. It does so and all is fine. However, if I try to go online via any other means for ex. clicking on my ISP connect window, or, from a link within Microsoft Word etc. OR Disconnect and then try to reconnect even directly through the Ie as above my computer freezes, and I mean freezes--nothing will work not even CTRL-Alt-delete for about 4 to 10 minutes. I can not open anything for example on my desktop, Hovering over anything on the taskbar does not do the usual highlighting stuff. As said everything freezes. The only thing I can do is select something on the desktop--that is select it,(it becomes darker) and nothing else. If I do try to open anything, including the Ctrl-Alt-Del, an hour glasss will pop up and then disappear within seconds. Then, after the alloted time-4 to 10 minutes) all windows clicked on open up at once, which can include 4 windows of Windows task manager (assuming I did the command 4 times).

Why is this so? I had the same problem with my laptop, so it's definitely something I did.

OS: Windows XP home SP2
AMD Athlon 3500+
IE: ver 7.0 (though above also happened with ver. 6.)

It has been 5 days since this problem started. The computer freezes, sort of lags for about 2-3 seconds only while I'm online. It happens about every 15 seconds, but sometimes gets random. Offline there is no problem. I'm on a wireless network (Netgear), none of the other computers have this problem. While it freezes I can still move the mouse and click things but nothing loads for the 2-3 seconds. I'm getting normal temperatures on the PC so I don't believe it's overheating.

I did a system restore and it didn't fix the problem. I have also ran several antivirus scans with AVG Pro 7 and PC-Cillin 2005. I've also done scans for worms such as bagle. I've ran Spybot/AdAware/MS Antispyware several times, no pick ups. I reformatted my main drive and reinstalled Windows, still no luck. Any ideas?

I'm on Win XP Pro

I have Gateway computer - Windows 7
We had big storms here a couple days ago. A tree outside got hit with lighting... everything was fine, except the Comcast cable was out. Next day I called Comcast support explaining Broadband internet wasn't working (initially, he claimed that there was no outage and had me try to continuously recycle the modems and swap plugs etc.) and after trying numerous things they agreed there was an outage and I'd have to wait to do anything further.

A day later I got the main modem running and the wireless did not. So I decide to run the main cable to the Gateway desk top and it can't connect. THE ICON ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN IS CONSTANTLY RECYCLING (ONLINE - OFF LINE red X). You can see the icon cycle off and on, but it will not stay on long enough to connect. Gateway says it's a driver, which I attempted to install from a download they emailed me (emailed to the older laptop and I made a DVD with zipfile).
I recycled both modems again .... I do think the wireless Linksys might have went bad (just a feeling - ran super hot for months but still worked great). But I don't understand why the new computer won't recognize the cable from the main modem that does work (hooked it up to the laptop and it works fine). Any suggestions with this downloaded driver? How do I know if it updated? I can post the link and someone smarter than me can look at it and see if there is anything that indicates ...... setup run, ex... Read more

A friends computer has been overtaken by pop up messages warning them of many viral / trojan infections, and offering to sell them a tool to remove them. I know it is a hoax, but can't seem to get rid of it. It is blocking access to the Microsoft live onecare scanner with a redirect, not allowing AdAware, or Spybot to update definitions, and is not found by either scanner, nor is it being detected by CA Antivirus.I ran HijackThis, and got the following log file:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:10:25 PM, on 9/25/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxCfg.exeC:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxFwHlp.exeC:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxPol.exeC:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxAgent.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\AOLacsd.exeC:\Program Files\CA\CA Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Vi...
