Online Gaming/Router Configuration Problems

Q: Online Gaming/Router Configuration Problems

OK, I'll give a brief overview of what I'm working with and then describe my problem. I have a relatively new notebook (bought it about 2 months ago, I wouldn't think the exact specs are necessary but if they are let me know), a DSL connection and I have a Linksys Wireless-G router.

I've attempted to play two games online with a friend (Age of Empires 3 and Diablo 2), both of which resulted in nothing by headaches. In both games we attempted to directly connect to each other via IP. He also has a notebook and is using a wireless router. We've tried it both ways; me trying to connect to him and vice versa, same problem both times.

Now, I don't know a whole lot of anything about networking and routers and the such, but I'll put in what I do know. When I try hosting a Direct IP game, both games listed an IP at the top of the screen, but it wasn't my IP, it was what I think is called the local IP? It's 192.168.1.1; now I know that's the address to the router and if I type that in my browser address bar I can access the router's configuration and all that good stuff. I also noticed that if i go to that address one of the options under the router configuration is "Applications and Gaming". When I go there it lists a bunch of stuff about opening ports and triggering ports and some other stuff that I've never heard of.

I've talked to a few people and they tell me that I would need to open certain ports and stuff like that, but no one could really tell me anything for sure.

So...any guidance? Thanks!

Right Ive had enough of spending hours a night searching through forums and tech troubleshooting to solve this very apparent but also ridiculous problem with online gaming.
Im looking for the final solution to this problem which seems to have plagued so so many people!
With todays broadband technology and fast computers you would think online gaming would not only be flawless but also easy and stress free to setup! No no!
I find my first experience turning me into a raving lunatic aimlessly searching the wise for unanswered questions to a stupidly simple problem!

It all started when my mate and I wanted to finally get some games of age of empires 2 online on the go...simple enough right? old as hell game....new 7mb broadband for us both sorted right!? wrong again!

I tried everything from opening up the nessesary ports to closing down both my routers broadband and windows still no go...having the same problem as everyone else, hosted games are invisible and joining is unsuccessful! Eventually the forums came through for me and we both installed hamachi and finally after more hair tearing and temper tantrums we finally got our direct TCP/IP game going but because the gods hate online gamers so much apparently we very rarely get a good connection via hamachi and either our connection is relayed or is jus pants so more often or not the ping is so high our games disconnect!
1st question on this is, is there a way to speed up our connection thru hamachi or are we going to be stuc... Read more

I had initially posted my problem and got no response so I figured it something that is rare.

Basically I am trying to figure out how to play online games with both of my PCs in my network.

I talked with the people who host the game "Game Spy" and they told me to open ports and this works. But it only works for one PC. Now I was doing tons and tons of searching online for someone who had my problem and I found a program called DXPort. What I was told that this program allows me to do what im trying to do. Basically by ensuring that each computer recieves the proper packets. It shares the ports ranging from 2300-2400. What im told this does is make sure every computer gets the proper information which in turn allows me to connect with individual computers on my network while still using the same IP address.

The problem is im not sure how to make this program work and I believe its possible to do this without some software program.

If anyone can just give me some insight on what exaclty I should be asking my router manufacturer I would greatly appreciate it.

Cause right now im just trying to understand what I need to be asking so I can get it fixed.
I have all the ports I need opened at least that is what I believe if ANYONE knows ANYONE that can help me please tell me cause im desperate at this point and im having a headache trying to fix it.

I am looking to replace an old Linksys BEFSR81 ver 3.1 Wired Router.

I have searched through the forums here and have found some information that isn't quite was I was looking for. So I thought I would start a new thread, and ask this fantastic community that has been so helpful with suggestions, assistance and opinions in the past. I have always used a wired router, and I've been a bit hesitant to go the wireless "route" - but I believe from what I've been told recently, that routers basically are ALL wireless now, but come with the ability to be both wired and wireless. (?)
I spend a lot of time playing online games, and I also do a fair bit of downloading/file transfers/streaming content.I pay for a 60 Mbps download speed/ 3 Mbps upload speed service from my internet provider.

So I am looking for a router that would be ideal to meet these needs. I have been told that I should look at getting a dual or triple band/frequency wireless router, with the terms gigabit and 1000BASE-TX being mentioned as well. Although I am not to familiar with this new technology and terminology ... so that is why I came here.

Any help with pointing me in the right direction of a type or even brand of router would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much!

I race Nascar 2003 over the internet in a league. I've been having a problem with an error appearing and kicking me out of the game in the middle of the race. The error reads, "100054 error has been detected". I am using a cable modem and racing through Sierra Game Servers. The game kicks me out to the server and then I can log back in again without rebooting or starting the game. We have not had problems disconnecting from other game servers. Can you advise.

Hello,

We have a small lan on a DSL line at my residence. It works fine we have a 4 computer lan. We have a 1 port linksys router that goes into 5 port 10/100MBs switch. Everything seems good and we can play most online games together.

The problem is we all like to play starcraft maybe some of you can relate . Anyways, we log on to Battle.net and we can join the same channel but when we try to enter into the same online game it wont allow us to. We can play on the lan fine but not togeter online. I imagine it has something to do with the router but i cant figure out what, or even for sure if that is the problem. We also run into run into problems trying to send some data out using programs like IRC or when we tried to setup a webcam.

Any help/information would be appreciated.

It's because to the game server it looks like 4 sessions coming from one IP address and one port. I think you are pretty much out of luck unless you get static IP addresses for your LAN from your ISP

I'm having problems connecting to the internet with certain games (Warcraft 3, Starcraft: Broodwar, Allegiance Online, Diablo 2, Warrock, Kuma/War, and others). Basically any game that recently updated is not allowing me to connect to them throught the internet... and this is really pissing me off because I was playing WC3 one day about 3-4 months ago and it said plz log off and reconnect to download new patch so i did and after patch installed i was unable to play same with SC: BW and others...

I have direct x 9.0c, latest drivers (i'm pretty sure hard to find drivers for 64MB VIA/S3G Unichrome IGP), and a broadband connection. Yes I run through a router however I have tried running the games without the router inbetween (game to comp to cablemodem).

Anyways I was wondering if anyone had similiar problems or knew how to fix it......

I've been trying to fix this problem for several months and have faced denial over and over again and more and more games keep adding to the list of unplayables. To me it sounds like I just need to update something on my computer but I just don't know what. I have contacted all companies that make said games and through over 50 emails of tech based questioning was unable to come up with a solution.

Also it would be nice if some knew where to find drivers for said video card. I don't know what exactly my sound card or processor chip is for the computer (don't know if I need to update those).

However I am able to ... Read more

ok I've been through official forums and cs support and got nowt so I'm hoping to get some help here, it's a bit confusing but here goes

I'd been playing everquest2 for three years or so with no problems of any kind! then, a day after no troubles I logged in and had huge pings going from 150 right up to 200,000 and large amounts of packet loss! this started for no apparent reason and I eventually found after trying eq2 forums that some comcast isp users were having trouble with AT&T routing them to the eq2 server, why this affected me I still don't know as I'm uk based with virgin media as my isp.

soe who produce and run eq2 say it's my isp and my isp say it's soe!! ( like they would!) the odd thing is I can connect to the us servers with no problems but the uk servers I keep getting this high ping and eventual linkdead. so switched from using a speedtouch usb modem to a billion bipac 5200g router went through the usual open port business and although it became playable it was still unstable, few high pings and some packet loss but it would usually recover and go on fine! then one day it went from a ping of about 200 up 150,000 and I went linkdead! had no use of the net at all and had to shutdown system and router and reboot!

I've tried soe and virgin and got sod all from em! found a contact email address for AT&T through arin whois and never had any reply from them.

So I tried out of curiosity a pathping to two World o... Read more

I am having several online gaming problems. At first I thought they were all related to ZoneAlarm Pro that I installed, but the problems have been occuring whether it's installed or not.

First is with any kind of online shooter games, specifically Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, Battlefield 1942, and Counter-Strike. They are wonderfully playable, and at decently low pings no less. But every minute or so, my connection gets interrupted for about 10 seconds. This happens consistantly, and proves to be quite annoying.

The other problem is with Warcraft III and Starcraft, I am unable to connect to Battle.net.

I have tried contacting many other places to find answers to my problems, but none have done me any good.

I connect to the internet through an 802.11b wireless connection to a netgear router. That is then connected to a DSL line.

If anyone has any suggestions, I know my question is kind of vague. But I'm desperate here.

Does your connection ever drop when you're not playing games?

Did you have the games installed before you got the router, or the DSL? If so, try reinstalling the games.

Bypassing my router and plugging my computer directly into the modem.

Hello everyone.
I just acquired a tablet (Transformer Prime) and wanted to add another wifi router to my network connection as a way to increase the signal on my room. I tried following the instructions on this Linksys help article:
http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&login=1&app=search&vw=1&articleid=4579

I've tried the first method described and completed all steps and still couldn't connect the second router. when i connect both by the ethernet socket only the first one, unaldutered, worked providing internet access to my PC by wire but the second one didn't increased reception on the tablet at all.
Ipconfig shows no sign of any other device besides the working router when they are connected by the ethernet socket. When i connect only the second router ipconfig reveals there is no "Connection-specific DNS Suffix" and "Default Gateway". I cant change options back to normal in the web browser because i dont have a default gateway number anymore

What have i done wrong? how can i fix this and configure this damn router to give me my precious wifi speed?
Any help would be appreciated and I'm verry sorry for the long and badly explained post (im a noob with pcs, to say the least)

BTW: first post, but I'll introduce myself later on a proper post

A:Problems with second router configuration

Reset the second router to factory default settings and try the following procedure. It is the same as your linked article Option 1, but maybe it will be easier for you to follow.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-... Read more

For some time now, my home LAN has been experiencing some problems. The router (an ss2624 speedstream wireless) sometimes doesn't want to work, (or most of the time) and sometimes it does. I have three computers connected to it, and they all can access the router's web page. However, none of the computers recieve internet access.

One of my computers is able to connect the the cable modem directly and receive internet. I use all the numbers I see from running winipcfg on my directly connected computer when I setup the router, but for some reason the router will not work. I make it so that it uses a static IP address from the ISP (which I'm not entirely sure even is static, even though I always see that same IP address, I also see a DHCP server number) and also I put the DNS server I see, although I am able to choose between 4 different numbers. (I put the others as alternate.) Am I missing any information from my ISP?

A:Router configuration problems

Set your router back up to receive DHCP if your ISP requires it. Sometimes ISP's use private IP's for you, that conflict with your current router config. If your router IP is 192.168.1.1, then make sure the IP that you get from your ISP is not 192.168.1.(1-254) Earthlink is bad about this. If it is the case, just change your router (inside address, not the external ISP address) to 192.168.10.1 or something other than 192.168.1.1 just change the second to the last number to anything else.

Not the best at drawing a mental picture here. but

If WAN address is 192.168.1.1
and router is 192.168.1.1 , they conflict. Plus the router needs a different network like 192.168.2.1 for you to be NAT'd

Hope this helps.

I downloaded the small client, simple normal game client downloader from the main website, when I run it it gets to about...somewhere between 45% and 60%, not sure which, then I get the blue screen where windows detected a problem and it's dumping physical memory and shuts down. It restarts and the client downloader failed, leaving a partial file, I've tried this with the large client downloader as well, same results. A:Best PC configuration for gaming within Rs.30000/-

You will probably have to start from scratch for the most part. You can probably reuse things like: keyboard, mouse,HDD ,monitor and your optical drive. However, to get to the performance you want. You will need a new MOBO,CPU,GPU and PSU. If you could tell me where you would possibly be buying these parts. I could try and help configure the build for you. Since, I am not familiar with your currency. I have no idea where to look for parts for you.

Where will you be purchasing the parts from? Flipkart? Also, it my be hard to build a PC in that price range when you are buying in Rupees. The costs will be inflated due to imports and such.

With a budget of around 30K INR you'll have to make do with an AMD dual or triple core system.

Look into the Phenom II X2 555 BE or if you can find the Phenom II X3 720. Any board with an AMD 770 / 870 chipset should do fine. You might be able to squeeze in the Phenom II X4 925 if you find a cheap enough motherboard.

As you'll be gaming on a 16" monitor I assume that your resolution will not exceed 1280x1024. A Radeon HD 5770 will be more than enough. In fact you could even consider the cheaper HD 4770 / 4850 for your system.

A 2x2GB DDR3 kit will do good. A good quality 450W PSU (with sufficient amps on the 12V rails) should run the system.

Just hunt around for the best possible prices. The vendors here are usually out to fleece you.

Incidentally, I'm also from Kolkata.

As I've test the incompatibilities, patches, and scripts on my virtual machine, I have made tweaks to this configuration both concerning system and settings. The tweaks I've made to this system are critical and will cause system instability if not configure automatically. In addition to that, I've made custom scripts made with AutoHotkey to optimize the compatibility of some of my security software. These scripts are unique to each software and are converted to an executable. If you wish to copy my configuration, PM me or do extensive research as the scripts and settings that I made for my configuration are critical to compatibility and optimization.

Okay, I just installed the game "Sid Meier's Gettysburg!" on to my computer. My computer is a Sony VAIO that is running on windows XP home edition. I have downloaded the XP patch for the game and I have also downloaded the smgpatch3 for the game.
Now, when I play the game in 1 player mode, its works fine with no problems at all. BUT, when I try to play multiplayer mode, on the server "gamespy" I start running into problems. When I try to host a game, I will go into the game setup but the other player freeze up at the "loading sounds" screen. So then I’ve tried playing with someone else being the host. The host player goes into the game setup screen without a problem but i am then i am stuck at the "loading sound" screen. Then the players that I tried playing with, tried playing with other players to see if it was a problem with the server. They had no problem at all with playing the game.
I’ve already checked with turning my firewall off to see if that was the problem. But it wasn’t, I still had the problems. I have gone through and changed the compatibility of the program to windows 98, but with no change. And I have made sure that both patches were installed correctly into the right folder, (which they were), so there was no problem with them that I can see.
I’ve have also uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game many times to see if that would fix the problem. But had no success with that. I have also downloaded the p... Read more

A:online gaming and PS3

I don't know if ports are required for the games you are playing, (which may increase the speed), but a gaming router might help.
However, some of them (that I've heard of) are a bit costly, though.

Hey, I've been struggling trying to find out what I should use to increase my WiFi connection so I can play games like TF2 and Garry's Mod. I know, WiFi is terrible for online gaming, but I don't have too much other choices. I can't move my router and I'm using a desktop, not a laptop, so I cannot simply move my computer (I also can't move it due to the lack of space in my house).

Anyways, I was wondering whether I should get a wireless repeater or a wireless adapter. I've somewhat singled it down to two different products (one a repeater and one an adapter) and just wanted to know if they were any good or if someone could suggest one for me.

Why don't you try powerline adapters? Their bandwidth throughput is about the same as Wireless G, but they're definitely better with regards to your ping because you get far fewer dropped packets which means lag would be drastically reduced. Check out these. And click here to learn more about the technology.

I have a Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7 wirelessly connected to a linksys WRT160N Wireless-N Router connected to a Motorola SBV5120 Modem. My ISP is optimum online. When I play online games, I lag, so I tested my speed at speedtest.net. Speedtest says I've got 0.91 Mb/s down and 0.97 Mb/s up, which seems awfully low. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out where the problem is. Thank you in advance. Tell me if you need more info.

A:Online Gaming Lag

depends on your internet plan speed wise.

but a few things can be the fault. 1) the wireless connection. Sometimes things can interfere with the signals hence the problem with speed, or the wireless router itself could be the cause. One thing I will suggest is to plug in the computer directly into the modem and see if you can get better speeds than that.

2) the modem, it's possible it's not working right and may need to be replaced *(unlikely but i have seen it happen as i work for a cable internet company)

3) the most common problem, the internet service provider company oversold the internet service and have too many users online at the same time. One way to check is to get them to do a speed test to make sure it's on their end and not yours.

My friend has an Orion 3000(pdf) wireless cable modem from Ambit Broadband. He has one computer connected through the ethernet port, and one computer connected wirelessly. He wants to hook up his xbox/ps2 to play online.
The cable modem only has one ethernet port. Also, it uses NAT (his computer's local IP is 192.168.100.x. I tried hooking up a router, but the cable modem wouldn't give the router an address, even after having it all unplugged for an hour.
His cable ISP installed the Orion 3000 in place of a conventional cable modem when his dad asked about wireless connectivity.
What should he do? What does he need to make it work?
I told him to ask for his old cable modem back, and to get a wireless router... but are there any other solutions?

I currently run WinMe & I have been told (and can see the proof) that it is a resource hog & horrible for online gaming.
I am sure everyone has their preference for which OS is best overall... but is there one that is best for online gaming? I was THINKING of upgrading to WinXP but I am not sure if its any better than WinME? Anyone have any advice?

A:Best OS for online gaming?

Definately dump WinME.

Personally, in terms of MS operating systems, Win2k Pro is the most stable (in my experience). Some people don't like it for gaming (you'll have problems running older games) but i've never had really any problems with it.

WinXP is also a viable choice, just as well as Win2k Pro, but XP is designed more for home use. Just be sure to shell out a few more bucks for WinXP Pro, not WinXP home edition.

Of course, Win98 SE is the most compatible OS. Though it's not without it's bugs. For reliability and performance, go with Win2k Pro or WinXP Pro.

A:Just Online Gaming

You can't uninstall them if they aren't listed.

They may not actually be installed yet. What you may have are just "setup shortcuts" for MS Works & MS Office, and they may only be trial versions which are often supplied with laptops. If you haven't actually boght or installed Office, it will only be a trial version because it isn't built-in to any version of Windows.

Hi there,
Basically over the past week I have been getting really bad lag spikes when gaming online but when I do a speed test my results are what they should be. I get fairly fast internet (105Mbps with around 16 ping and 6Mbps upload) so I don't understand where the problem is. I have contacted my broadband provider who found a problem on the line but when it was fixed nothing had changed.
I use a Netgear Wireless USB adapter as getting a Ethernet cable from the router to my PC isn't the easiest of tasks even though my room sits above where the router is. I've tried turning my router off and on, I've tried factory resetting it as well as unplugging and plugging in the USB adapter and speaking with my provider.
I am out of ideas so any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I have recently rebuilt my system for gaming. and i am having some issues with online gaming. when i boot up my machine the internet connects fine and STAYS!! connected. the issue emerges at several times. and the issue is this...when i either;
1. try to download a steam (this seems to have corrected its self)
2. Play a game online (steam or otherwise)
3. play a steam game even if it's not online
my wireless dongle loses site of all networks, it essentially just witches itself off and tells me "windows could not find any networks" and i have to unplug the dongle and plug it back in to find networks again. this is only a recent problem, and it has only happened since i have rebuilt my system, it never used to happen when my machine was stock and i played WoW etc. it is very frustrating. i have tried the obviouse, reinstalling drivers, opening required ports, disabling firewall + antivirus. nothing seems to work

A:Steam and online gaming

If you are using a dongle can I ask what company?

and does it only Disconnect from the internet when you play these games or when you browse the internet aswell? if its just the game I dont know what you can do tbh, it may just be your IP, because my computer messes up and I use one, but I play steam games but I would check that your dongle is working on sombody elses or your own laptop and try and see if its your computer or the dongle good luck

Ok my story begins only a week ago. I just upgraded my computer fully. This is my list of hardware: asus workstation mother board/intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghtz cpu/ati hd2900 xt graphics card/Linksys wireless card/750w power supply/a wester digital hard drive/last and prob my only regret windows vista ultimate. Anyway every thing is brand new (except my hard drive and that is only 6 months old) and should be working properly. I did all of the upgrades for windows and got all of the updated drivers for my hardware. So here is where the problem comes in. I had world of warcraft and starwars galaxies installed onto my computer when i had windows xp pro and i had no problem. When I bought all of my hardware I also bought the upgrade (Burning Crusade) for WOW. I then installed that with no trouble and installed all of the updates with no problems. However when i would start the game up it would only run for about 2 min until the internet disconects and kicks me off of the server (it also does this with star wars galaxies and when i would try to play UT2004 online). Now my first thought was maybe my wireless is bad either at my computer's end or at my HUBs end. But i know neither is the case because i spent about 4 hours downloading updates for WOW and SWG and never once was i kicked off. Also i spent all of last week using my internet for regular browsing and downloading from Itunes w/o ever getting kick off. I keep pretty consistant signal strength, between 3/5 bars and 4/5 bar,... Hello.
I do not pretend to be a computer genius but I believe I am capable of solving most Issues myself but unfortunately I am now struggling with a virus that seems to have imbedded itself in my windows 7 system.
I tend not to use it too regularly but the boyfriend does use it to play games in Facebook. I am running a Norton antivirus which has been pretty good up till now.
The computer seems to be running fine but my email account has been hijacked and on finding this out I have checked the computer and tried to perform a scan of both the windows system and also my accounts to no avail.
The desktop symbols are all in place but none of them are working. I have also tried running a scan in safe mode, once again it would not work. The task manager did not show any action with regards to the antivirus scan that I had requested it to perform.
I would be very great full for any advice and support that you may be able to provide.

hey guys, im having a problem with playing madden 07 online for my ps3. every 1 in 4 games my connection fails for a second or 2, long enough for the game to crash. i know its my fault and noone is disconnecting me. every once in a while the game designers (EA) servers will fail, but i know its not as much as ive been getting disconnected. i tried plugging an ethernet chord from the ps3 to the router, it made it worse. i usually play down in my basement, and the router is upstairs. i have a wireless router and the ps3 has wireless technologies. one note is in my basement i dont get cell phone service, if thats anything similar to wireless internet connections. I have comcast high speed internet, so i dont see why id be losing connection, its not like i have dialup and someone calls and i get disconnected. i think ive narrowed it down to one thing, and hopefully one of you smart computer people out there know if this is true. we have the vonage service. i notice our phone jacks from our telephones go directly to the internet router, and i knw vonage is a little different where the phones are involved with the internet. do you think vonage may be causing the disconnections? sometimes ill get a phone call and ill stay online in the game. but maybe when someone calls, and it rings over and over again, maybe it causes a millisecond of disruption on the internet connection over and over, and then disconnects my game? this is just my idea, ive run out of other possibilities.

I have gotten Direcway satellite internet. It is incredibly fast at downloading but sucks at online gaming. I found out that the reason is that satellite is slow at transmitting packets of some sort. I wondered if there is any way to tweak it, such as a utility or some sort, so that it could be just a little faster so I can frag on....

Ok, let me start by saying that I have 3 PCs on this home network. One PC upstairs which is hardwired to the modem/router and two downstairs (one uses a pci network adapter and MY computer uses a USB adapter). The internet works fine on all the computers, streaming media is not a problem. But I do have one problem.

I played World of Warcraft on my old PC (with the PCI adapter) and never experienced any sort of constant lag spikes or whatever. I got my new PC recently, and it doesn't have an available PCI slot so I purchased the USB network adapter and use that to connect wirelessly to my router upstairs. It shows 4 out of 5 bars of signal on my taskbar (it used to show 2-3 but i fixed that and now it shows 4 constant bars of signal, out of 5). I got my new PC especially to play games like World of Warcraft as well as a few other games and I seem to be having a very annoying problem.

Whenever I'm doing something in the game, everything will pause for a bit (characters will run in place, like a regular lag spike, whatever) and then 3-4 seconds later everything will speed up and catch up to what's supposed to be going on in the game. This occurs about every minute and it is VERY frustrating. Like I said, my internet browser and streaming media work fine, except the gaming. I tried another online game, and I had the same problem. I updated the firmware on my router and the same problem still occurs. I brought my PC upstairs to directly connect it to the router an... Read more

when i am playing call of duty modern warfare 2 i get this horrible lagg and it makes me suck at the game.... i hate it! i hate it!!

i have had many people telling me how to fix this problem?? i will tell you what people have suggested and whats failed so you dont waste your time...

my signal strengh on the ps3 is always higher than 70% so theres no problem there...

its not the hosts connection as im the only lagger in the game.. also its not the ps3 or infinty ward servers.

my intetnet speed is good at 9mbps...

people have said try switching your ethernet cables to different ports... but im using wireless so it aint happening...

people have said to go to 'start' 'run' 'CMD' then type ping www.yahoo.com in and they say it should be between 20-40ms and mine is at 29ms so nothing there...

people have then said that changing the frequency could be the problem but i found out its not....

so please help me! thanks for your time!

A:i need help with my online gaming lagg?

It could just be the iwnet servers, how is the lag on other games?
I play cod online (PC) a lot and the lag on some games is horrific but on others it is awesome, so could just b that.

Cod is lacking dedicated servers this adds a LOT of lag, as it relies on at least one person in each game having a very reasonable connection, bad way of doing but its the way to make loads of money. as they don't have to pay for servers running all the time.

I switched from an ATI 5850 card to an AMD 6970 card recently. I play mainly Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online and EVE Online.

The 6970 caused problems with both games (white streaks, not being able to read chats, etc...) and the 5850 works perfectly.

Why?

Hey, I have a computer thats 4-5 years old, It has a 64 mb vid card and 512 mb ram with a pentium 4 processor 1700 mhz processor.

Now im starting to play a game (WoW) and its an online massive multiplayer game, my performance is good but now that im doing special "quests" with like 40 other people cramped almost into a single spot it lags me up.

When I start killing stuff with the 40 other ppl cramped up in a spot, I lock up bad and can barely control what Im doing, so im basically just standing there waiting till its over. What can I change/add to my PC to fix this problem and have minimal to no lock ups?

I am currently on a budget, I dont want to buy something really expensive, just want to fix this problem. Oh, last question, if I reformat will this help? Thankyou.

Ok before someone tries to MOVE this thread somewhere else, let me explain how I know this is a Windows issue I'm having.

Issue: When playing UT2004 and SC2, I get HUGE FPS loss (from 200+ to 40's and 50's) when 1) there are 2-3+ people in my FOV on ut2k4, or 2) when there's even just a midsize skirmish of 20+ units in SC2.

In UT2004 when I'm playing online, I get nonstop 200FPS(the max I set it to). As soon as I see ANYONE, it plummets.

I actually already started a thread about this in another portion of the site a few months ago when I thought I was having issues with my GTX 260 because of drivers. After I replaced my GTX 260 with my new Radeon 5800 (which is awesome), I was astounded to see... my issue persisted even with the new Radeon card. So I did what I should have done in the first place. I reinstalled Windows 7. The problem was fixed right away. My FPS were perfectly fine again and I haven't had a single hitch in any game I've played since... until now. The issue is back... And instead of reinstalling Windows 7 again I am seeing if anyone here has any suggestions... I've already completely reinstalled the drivers (using driver sweeper) but no change. My GPU stays in the 40C range most all the time.

Windows 7 Ultimate
GA-790FXTA-UD5
AMD Phenom 2 x4 945 ~3.0ghz
4gigs ddr3 Corsair RAM
1000watt Corsair PSU
*nothing is overclocked*

Any ideas?

A:Online gaming problem

Hi Bluestrata43, welcome!

Sounds like AOL is blocking everything. I don't use it so I don't know how to tell you to fix it. Maybe someone here uses it - but unlikely.

Have you looked at AOL documentation on parental restrictions? What if you raise the "restrictions" to see if this has something to do with your problem?

(my first instinct was to tell you to uninstall AOL - but that wouldn't be very helpful! ;))

My friends and I have been playing Age of the Empires 2 online by using Hamachi. We all have the same version of both the game and Hamachi. All are running Windows XP. We will set up a multilayer LAN game, and everyone will be able to see the game by inserting the host's Hamachi IP into the Ages IP bar. About Half of the people attempting to join will get into the game no problem, the other half, after seeing the game, and trying to join will be "unable to connect". All firewalls have been checked. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I also have problem with AOE II, but the problem is not being able to see the game. If you can see the game you are on the right track, obviously some computer/IP interference.

Hello everyone:wave:

I am having a problem with playing online games such as World of Warcraft and Counter Strike Source. Everything was working perfectly 3 days ago, and i havn't played these games until tonight. I clicked on the Steam desktop icon, and nothing happened. So i waited and then i clicked on the Counter Strike desktop item, and yet nothing happened. So i restarted my computer, and the same thing happened, i didn't even get the steam account window. I ran a virus, spyware, and registry edit scan and yet nothing was wrong. I reinstalled about 2 times, and the same thing happens. So i decided to just play wow, and when i got to the log in window, it says... " unable to validate game version, this may be caused by a corrupted file or another program interfering". I looked at my windows task manager, looked under processes, and it says that Steam is running at 14,000 K. This really confused me. The only new encounter i have had with my computer in the last week was that when i shut down, a window called "Hidden Window" will ask me if i want to end its task. I haven't done anything new to my computer, and i'm not a newb to computers, i'm studying for my A+ certification . The only start up apps i have is my anti virus and Microsoft apps. I have never had this problem. I tried surfing the web for this, yet i couldn't find anything. Could it have something to do with my port forwarding?, but i haven't messed with ... Read more

Crashing while online gaming
Hi guys, I'm hoping to get some help for a problem Ive been encountering for the fast couple of days. I hope this is the right page to post this problem in. Let me explain why i think this is a networking issue...

Ive been crashing while playing Team Fortress 2, it doesn't go to blue screen, even though the recovery message is telling me that's what happened.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: d1
BCP1: FFFFF8803A186FF8
BCP2: 0000000000000002
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: FFFFF880078BA3F4
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\010415-23930-01.dmp
E:\TEMP\WER-25022-0.sysdata.xml

The screen goes black or just freezes on whatever im looking at and i have to reboot. This only happens while online gaming. My other games that do not require an internet connection work fine. Also, surfing the net is easy enough, but ive had instances while watching videos of sound stuttering and sometimes videos not working all together.

Is there anything i can do to narrow this down? Thanks in advance!

A:Crashing while gaming online.

Well, you're getting a bug check report upon Windows reboot and it's telling you a dump is generating with an exact filename, so you are bug checking.

Hey, I have the evaluation copy 7264 build of Windows 7 installed on my computer. While at school, I'm hooked up wirelessly and don't notice any type of lag related to ping/latency. However, when I came home this weekend and connected to our wireless network, I get some strange lag.

WoW and CS: source have both given me this problem. What happens is I log into the game. Almost instantly I can see that the game is unresponsive and will eventually disconnect me. However, if I alt tab out then back in, I can see that the game followed any commands I gave it before alt tabbing..as if it was catching up. My internet doesn't lag, so I know it's not a problem of signal/lack of bandwidth. It's also not the every-60-seconds lag spike people talk about.

I'd like to note that Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne doesn't suffer from this problem, I played 3 games earlier on the ladder and it played fine.

I'm downloading a patch for the Aion open beta, and I'll play it a bit and see if I notice anything different from when I was connected at school.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello,

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

I have a lag problem with a game called Face of Mankind. In the beginning of this year, I played it perfectly with absolutely no lag at all. I recently started playing again and I lag horribly. The only thing that has changed is the computer.

Specs:
Processor: Intel Core i7 930
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Memory: 6GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850

I play other games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Counter-Strike: Source without lag so I'm guessing my problem only is with Face of Mankind.

I run around in-game without lag for about 10 seconds and then I get waves of lag that lasts for about 5 seconds, over and over again, where people around me move like their movement is limited to like 5 frames per second or something. I don't know how else to describe lag.

If I get involved in a fight where people are shoting, the lag gets much worse. It's like time freezes and I walk around in stopped time. It allows me to walk up to people and shoot them in the face like if they're standing completely still, which they're not.

My operating system shouldn't be the cause, since a friend of mine also plays this game at the same operating system without lag. I tried the game on my laptop which runs XP on both my network and on a friends network, without lag so it seems my dekstop computer is the cause. I've tried reformatting, disabeling anti-virus and firewal... Read more

Currently I am living in University halls, this means my internet connection is connected to a huge area network. I quite enjoy doing some online gaming if I am not with friends or not working or whatever, it's a good way for me to relax. However, in my university contract it does state that you "should" be able to connect to multi player games. However, on every game I have tested it does not work, accept for Valve games on steam. So, Counter Strike Source and Day of defeat source both work. COD4 from a normal CD does not, but also from steam does not. So I am assuming it's something about the ports that the games are running off and the university is blocking.

Does anybody have a solution for this ? A friend suggested I try using a ports canner and then change the ports around ?

If that's a good suggestion, could anyone recommend a good user friendly port scanner ?

Kind Regards, Cripp0

A:Online gaming connection problem

We don't assist in circumventing the network policies of the school. You would want to check with the university that the ports for those games are beingi blocked. Most universities that I know of do block gaming traffic to prevent overutilization.

I am having this problem while gaming online, i get disconnected from game after aprox 10minutes . Tried Both using MSI RG60SE wireless and Speed-touch modem. Firmwares updated, protocol v6 unchecked everything works fine while chatting browsing etc. When i log on BF3 after 10mins or so it disconnects. Always same time. The interesting part is even on my ps3 i play fifa and it always disconnects me from it after i finish off playing first match (ps3 is wireless connected with MSI router). Always same timing. Everything disconnects and it re-connects automatically.

I called providers everything fine from their side.
Only thing i am concerned is I have the cat wire cable very long 25metres or so which is useless because i moved modem near pc and kept same long cable. But than why ps3 disconnects also (wireless) after 10mins? Wireless both on ps3 and pc are full signal. I am using wi-fi internet on my BB and i never disconnects i am always online.

No idea .. any help guys please? Thank you

A:Keeps disconnecting while gaming online after few minutes.

Hello,

Thanks for creating your own Thread.

Do you have a Static IP setup for your PS3?
Setting a static IP address on the Playstation 3 - PortForward.com

You will need to do port-forwarding of your games as well.
Ports listed by application. - PortForward.com

Some heavy gamers do enable DMZ from the router so there's no need do open up ports, but it is also not safe.

Newbie Question

I apologize for posting such an obvious newbie question, but even after sifting through the archives and doing some research, I feel lost. I have no idea what some of these specification mean and, more importantly, which will matter to me.

I'm looking to enhance my on-line gaming experience (Counter-Strike and C&C Renegade, mostly). I would like to put a 3D graphics accelerator in my machine - a Dell Precision running a PIII @ 866MHz, 128M RAM.

I have never upgraded a video card before and really don't think that I have a need for the latest and greatest. What I would like to find is a good upgrade from the resident NVIDIA TNT2 Pro 16 MB 4XAGP for a good price.

Basically, I need a budget card and would like to spend the least amount of money while still getting some bang for my buck.

Any suggestions in the price range of $99.00 or lower? Will I even get noticeable results for that kind of money?

Thanks in advance for your help.

-Jon

A:Upgrade vid-card for online gaming

With your setup, you could upgrade to a Radeon 7500 for a mere 84$ ( TechSpot PriceGrabber ).

With that you'll be all set to improve your performance on CS & the likes.

For newer games, that card will still be pretty good but you'll need to upgrade your ram to 256mb to really be comfortable.

Hello, I am currently running my internet using the work connection I have in my home. I want to be able to play online shooters, CounterStrike, Deus Ex..... Now it doesn't show any servers since I have this work connection...I downloaded GameSpy about 30 mins ago and as it was loading up, it said something about a firewall was stopping me from using GameSpy properly.

Am I looking in the right place? And if so, I went to inbound and outbound rules nd that looked like maybe it might have something to do with it.

Thank you very much in advance for any information!

A:Connection Issue regarding gaming online

Did you ever used Windows Firewall with Advanced Security ( your screenshot ) to configure anything? If you haven't touched it before then the problem is not there. Please explain what 'work connection' is. What 'work connection' means to me is a VPN connection that puts you inside a company's network so you can access MS Exchange servers, Sharepoint servers, as if you were in the office.

Hi. Thanks for help already received.
I was banned from World of Warcraft because of possible use of a third party program which I never even new I had. (Allegedly... blizzard refuse to tell me what activity my account was supposed to be involved in... they have now re-instated me but have advised that I may have had a key logger. I've repeatedly demanded they tell me what I was banned for... initially they refused.. now they're just ignoring me..)

Anyhow... they think my account may have been hacked and that a keylogger is a possible cause of this (please excuse my ignorance). I'd be grateful if someone could look at my logs and see if anything springs out.

I've ran spybot, adaware, atf cleaner and a couple of other programs I've been recommended and found nothing untoward.

Having read the instructions I've now uninstalled utorrent which, if I have an unwelcome visitor I now realise this may be the source.

A:?Keylogger - banned from online gaming

Hi -

I don't see anything in those logs to suggest a keylogger or active infection.

Please perform this online scan to help look for malware.

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Firefox or Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Vista users right click on the Internet Explorer shortcut, and choose Run As Administrator.

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review: Close any open programs
Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan.

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
Click View scan report at the bottom.
Click the Save Report As... button.
Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.

My World of Warcraft account (I know, very nerdy) was hacked once, I scanned with Avast, found nothing, reset WoW and email passwords, and then it was hacked again. WoW customer support insists I must have a keylogger on my system... I am skeptical of their WoW account management website and think it could be a breach on their end but whatever, I want to be thorough and careful. So I scanned with MalwareBytes and Avast, both in safe mode and in normal mode with WoW running. Avast didn't find anything. Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware only found cookies. My major hobby is computer gaming. I used to play world of warcraft and 40 man raid with little or no fps lag, and i've switched over to a game called GunZ which has far inferior grafics, and i am bogging down in 8 man games. I can even tell a difference from a few months ago in GunZ as well. I've come to a very competitive level of play, and I could really use a good fix. I think spyware is using my internet connection which makes me spike in ping, and also might be causing my fps decrease. I'm not entirely sure that playing games merrits help, but I hope that I can get a clue as to what is slowing me down. I'm assuming my first step is to post a hijackthis log. Also, Thank you very much for your help in determining my problem. AH one last thing, I ran adaware and superantispyware, and my popups are gone, but the decrease in performance is noticable. Thank you again =p

*EDIT* I'd also like to make my computer as Spartan as possible, the only program i wish to run is Gunz, which is hosted by ijji. Anything other then that, and basic word processing and browsing utilities, to me, are an encumberance on my memory. Any other games that are taking memory fall into this category as well. Thanks much respect, Chong.

Do I have to shut domn zonealarm to play iwin games? won't load unless I do. This of course leaves me naked on the net, I can not find a "safe zone" option in the zone program. thx

A:online gaming with zone alarm

I went into " Program Control " in Zone Alarm to " allow " my games access to the net.

This let me play multiplayer games.
I wanted the best performance out of my games, so disabled all background applications ( except Explorer and Systray ) .
When I am done gaming, I just startup Zone Alarm again.

It may leave me vunerable while I play, but I have had no problems yet.

My University blocks gaming ports. Someone helped me with tunneling via SSH to a VPS. So basically it is set up, I can access things I couldn't before (signing into Steam, downloading patches etc). Unfortunately I still can't connect to any online games. (CS:GO, CoD4, QuakeLive, TF2, etc.)

Specs:

VPS - OpenVZ.IO - IO3G 3 Shared Cores 3072MB Guaranteed 50GB RAID10 Disk Space 1000GB Bandwidth 1 IPv4 Netherlands Centos 5 OS
Programs - Putty to tunnel, Proxifier to control which applications use the proxy.

Steps so far:

Set up an SSH tunnel with Putty to my VPS
Changed the default SSH port on the VPS from 22 to 443 (probably best to be secure)
Used Proxifier to forward all connections through to the VPS (excluding Putty)
Everything works - I load up internet explorer and it thinks I'm somewhere in the Netherlands. But when I can't see online servers and when I try to directly join one that I know exists my connection times out.
When I load up a game I don't see a connection in Proxifier, seems weird.
Here is an album of my settings in case you want to have a look http://imgur.com/a/F0ZyK

Any suggestions welcome, although try and explain it a bit (or give keywords for google search ), I'm new and learned this stuff in the last 48 hours :S

Manually clear out all your temp folders.

What you are experiencing is common and happened to me if your TEMP folder is filled with stuff.

Use ccleaner if you lazy :-)

It happens from time to time but it's really annoying. I don't wanna mess with system settings but god I have to disable something or rollback to Windows 8.1 . My system is brand new and I left it alone the first 2 days so it could update and don't bother me but still it happens.

So that's it guys. What would you recommend me to disable? I have noted that "Content delivery optimization" use a lot of bandwidth while on fullscreen. If I remember well that's the live tiles feed update for start menu.

A:Windows using network while gaming online

For starters turn off sharing Windows Updates, it should not be sharing when PC is active, but just to be sure.

Windows Update - Choose how you Download in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Another possibility, turn off auto-updating apps, but you will have to update them manually then.

Hello Tenforums:

The BSOD happened during a few hour gaming session in GTA Online. The BSOD showed "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE" and then hung at 100% before I forced the machine to shut down after a lengthy wait. The only two leads are that I have are that there is (probably was by now) a windows 10 pro insider preview update pending to install during inactive hours. (Maybe it tried to initiate the install while in-game which went wrong?) The other thing is that the drivers for my Nvidia GTX 760 just updated. As of late, there have been a lot problems with their drivers, but I haven't been affected by any issues so far.

Thanks,

Quickdraw996.

I have not been able to connect for any online games in STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT. I find a server, it appears to connects and goes all the way to the map and then says "CONNECTION TO HOST LOST" with "WAITING FOR PLAYERS" flashing in the background.

I opened ports, diabled firewalls, antivirus nothing seems to work.

I can connect for other online games but this one uses GAMESPY. Is GAMESPY the reason or am I doing something wrong?

Has anybody seen this before and if your have please help a brother out!!!

Hello all,

I have had trouble with wireless gaming for quite some time now, in fact ever since I built my last computer. I have a home network, a laptop (dell inspiron 5160) and a desktop (specs below) which both share a wireless connection, the laptop can game fine without any problems the desktop keeps getting "connection interrupted" every 2-3 minutes in online games (quake3, quake4, BF2, CSS etc) and my computer will freeze my ping shoots up to the 900's and this lasts for about 4-5 seconds. I have tried a million things and posted at other forums with no one being able to put there fingher on what is casuing this.

I have tried a new router, I used to have a belkin router and PCI network card now I have a netgear modem/router and usb adaptor but still the same problem, I have copied the settings from the laptop that I use into my desktop with still the same trouble, the laptops does use some different protocols that my desktop dosent have but i have all the main ones I should need, I have tried switiching from XP pro to Xp home with no luck, I have tried a fresh install of home twice and still no luck, I have tried various settings in TCP/IP>properties>advanced and still no luck, I have ran a home network before with other computers in the past all which XP home and even with quite a cheap modem/router and no problems what so ever. I tried Windows 10 and found that Guild Wars 2 had such bad lag that it was unplayable. I had a ping of 1360 as one point when it had been in the 60-80 range previously. Internet web pages took painfully long to load. I have an excellent ISP and have never had complaints about internet access before. In searching forums I read that Window 10 has issues with data packet loss, excessive lag, etc. I went back to Windows 7 and this fixed the lag issue with Guild Wars 2 and Web Pages load instantly again, so I know Windows 10 was causing the problem.

How could Microsoft screw this up?

Does anyone know if this has been fixed and if Windows 10 is safe for online gaming yet?

A:Windows 10 causing lag with online gaming

I game online all the time with Windows 10 and haven't experienced those issues. Did you try reinstalling your ethernet or wifi drivers after you upgraded to 10? Any time I upgrade an OS, I tend to reinstall my networking drivers, GPU drivers and sound drivers, because they can occasionally become corrupted during the upgrade install.

I have two similarly configured pc's connecting to my adsl modem, both via a hardwired 100MB connection\hub. One pc performs superbly in all things that my two sons wish to do gaming-wise; while the other is another matter entirely. I will explain the symptoms first followed by other information that may or may not be pertinent .

In short, if my son plays the single player version of COD4 or Fear2, the affected pc shows absolutely no ill effects and performs very nicely.

However, if playing the online versions of either WOW or COD4 on the affected pc, both games play fine for the first 15 seconds, followed by a dramatic drop in FPS rates (example: WOW commences at 60 FPS, drops to 1-2 FPS after 15 seconds, returns back to 60 FPS, and this continues without variation). This does not happen on the other pc.

We've attempted to apply all the latest driver packs for the mobo, video card, and sound card with no change. We've also tried the two other free ports on our Belkin wireless router without success. We have ruled out thermal issues as well.

This is my first post in this forum. I have attached my hijackthis log file. I hope I haven't under or over-cooked it. Thanks for devoting your time.
