Solved: Battlefield 2 crashes after splash screen (doesn't enter full screen mode)

Q: Solved: Battlefield 2 crashes after splash screen (doesn't enter full screen mode)

Hi,

I'm having a problem with BF2 where the game will crash with a
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error, right after the logo screen. The game doesn't enter full screen mode.

The first time I saw this error was when I was playing around with BattleRecorder (BF2's own recording engine), and I tried to launch a movie in BattleLauncher. This throws the error described above and I can't run BF2 again without getting the error until the computer is RESTARTED (no logoff and back on). I searched for a way to make Battlerecorder work and I gave up. But, the problem now seems to occur when Battlefield 2 is run for a second time. For example, if I turn on the computer, run BF2, play, close BF2, and try to play again without a restart, it crashes. I tried multiple things to fix this problem, and I eventually ended up downgrading my nvidia drivers to 84.21 (i was running 84.25 beta).

I THOUGHT this fixed the problem, but I must have only tried to open the game once when I went and downgraded the drivers, because it still happens. The only things I have installed recently are xfire, and I remember that that program threw me the error whenever I clicked somewhere inside the program to launch BF2 (xfire has a feature to launch bf2 for you so you can play with a friend). I suppose I should uninstall xfire... I'll try that now.

This computer is NEW, its got several games on it but its only a month old and it has no viruses or spyware. Here are the specs...

WinXP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2
Pentium D (Dual Core) 3.00GHz
1 gig of ram
nvidia 6800 with driver version 84.21

Please don't post that Battlefield 2 is a crap game and that EA sucks, that's really not the answer I'm looking for right now.

Thanks in advance, I hope someone can help me with this.

Ok it was working fine just yesterday morning then when I transported it to my other house it just stopped working. I don't think it's a software problem because I did a system restore with no results. However, all my other games work fine. I have tried installing drivers, the SDK updates, auto updates, even reinstalling the game. My temps are 39 for CPU, 42 for HDD(I have 3) and 45-46 degrees celcius for the card. The game is installed on my H drive(btw all sata) on a Raid0 stripe set with 2 74GB raptors. I'm getting really frusturated not being able to play this game so answer as quickly as you can. If all else fails, Im calling EA tommorow morning. BTW my specs are, x800 pro, amd 3500+, 1 gig low latency xms corsair ram, 1 300GB maxtor diamondmax hd, and the two raptors. I had a similar problem. If you've tried latest drivers, the only thing I would say is to do a reinstall...

That's what I did - its drastic, but in the end I knew that it would *work*

I think there is a mode on windows xp you can enter so games such as world of warcraft wont' run in full screen. I don't know how to access this mode thouhg, but would like to because without eveyrthing in full screen it will use less of my computers resources and this way my computer won't freeze up. Can anyone tell me how to enter this mode?

A:How to enter a mode where things don't appear in full screen

Well, I'm only guessing, but I think it depends on the game, not on Windows, whether or not you can play it in windowed mode.

Also, I don't think you would gain much with it. Once I tried playing a game in window mode. When I set it up, it warned me to think over twice, because in window mode I possibly will experience performance problems, glitches, etc., and that full screen is better.
Usually games use the same resolution in full screen as in window mode, so, I think, it requires the same computing performance. It's seems only logical that if Windows has to update the desktop besides the game screen, it consumes more resources than the game screen alone.

Performance problems are generally addressed by expanding RAM, defragging HDD, cleaning the OS from virus/Spyware, etc. But someone with expertise might know better.

I don't know if your system will be able to handle ETM, because it has integrated video. But hey, I guess it's worth a shot.

First, get the latest drivers for your video here.

Before you play, make sure you close all background applications. Also, you might as well do a spyware check using something like Ad-Aware.
The game installed correctly, right?

Hi all, I have a really annoying problem with my NEW computer.
I play videos in full screen mode, then randomly maybe after 5 mins, sometimes more.
The sound and video just freezes and i cannot do anything other than reset the power.
I experience this problem on.. DVD Movies, Youtube, BBC Iplayer, Google Videos...
Sometimes when I put the videos into fullscreen, it stutters... but if i minimize and then
go full screen again... its ok !?!?!

I have the latest drivers and patches for all my devices and my computer is up to date.
Is this something any of you have come across? and if you could advise a fix...?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

After trying some things (that didn't work) that seemed like they would work I decided to ask for help. I have two monitors, a large 1080p one which is plugged into my graphics card and a smaller 4:3 VGA monitor for secondary tasks that's plugged into my motherboard. Although I have not tested this issue with other video streaming services, it seems that YouTube (although it could be other services as well) will crash whenever I put a video in full screen mode on my larger (primary) monitor.

That being said, my computer will NOT crash when I use full screen mode on my smaller, secondary monitor.

My computer also does not crash while playing/using any games or programs in full screen, with the exception of WildStar (more on that later).

I have gone through device manager and searched for every update I could find for my devices, and I have also ran through GeForce Experience to update my video drivers as well, so none of my hardware is out of date.

I have tried disabling certain devices to see if there was an issue with those (I had gotten some new peripherals at the time) and it has not fixed the problem either.

I have ran a memtest through windows, and although most people say that memtest86 (or whatever it's called) is more reliable, I figured that since the windows memtest came clean, and an issue with RAM causing a blue screen just from YouTube, I decided that it would be extremely unlikely that RAM would be the issue since I can run pretty much every program I have... Hi all,
Been having a few computer troubles, last couple of days. Up until now, I have never had a computer crash since building my machine. Occasionally I've had to force-quit a program, but never random crashes.

I've had 6 in the last day or so, though. And none of them have happened with a BSoD. The last one to happen was while watching a movie. I Ctrl+Alt+Del'd and it got stuck showing a message "preparing security options..." with the time-circle(?), but never progressed past that point.

They all seem to happen at random, regardless of what I do. When playing full-screen games, watching full-screen movies, or even just sitting idling. I've tried updating my MOBO BiOS, my gfx driver, tried taking out and setting the RAM again, and even ran a full-system scan with both anti-virus and with CCleaner.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what I should do.

I tried to upload the files from the SF_Diagnostic_Tool, but got a message saying I didn't have the correct Security Token?

If there's any other information that you require of me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hello tech,
It's easter, so I realise some helpers might be away and help might be a bit slow as well as answers from me until Tuesday, lol.

I got a problem, driving me up the wall for four days now.
I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.

Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.

Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.

I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.

I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.

I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
OK what do I do now

A:I press Alt+Enter DOS screen.opens 2 full screen then go small in a couple of seconds

You can download PowerCmd and use CTRL+ENTER to test its full screen mode.

Okay, here's a little background information.

Bought my PC in 2006. Have had to replace 3 video cards since i've bought it. (One was replaced under warranty, the other I bought).

Since I purchased my PC the only parts I have replaced are: My video card, 3 cards later i'm on my most recent one, EVGA Nvidia 8800 GT http://www.evga.com/articles/378.asp

I also upgraded my PSU to an Enermax Pro 82+ 525w. http://www.directron.com/epr525awt.html

OS: Windows XP SP3

Motherboard : ASUS P5BW-LA http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00748726

I mainly use my computer for gaming, after my first video card died i was sent a beefier card http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-car...?tag=mncol;lst after that my PC was no longer under warranty so I had to buy my next cards my self.

Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/596146-solved-windows-cant-boot-black.html
The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.

All 3 safe mods work fine.

Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.

Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.

The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv

Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.

I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.

Anymore information for me, or from me that you need, i would be extremely happy.
Thanks for your time.

Hello,
After doing a Windows update, my computer gave a Windows looking message that my hard drive was going bad and to back up my data. I was able to save my user files. Then the pc crashed with a BSOD. I disabled restart after crash. Found the error was 0x0000006B (having to do with a corrupt bootcat.cache file.) Could not boot up windows except for semi windows with my windows 7 disk and Chose Repair, in Recovery console, however it told me nothing could be repaired. Through an option to "find a file" under the Recovery option. I managed to copy a GOOD copy of the bootcat.cache file and I appropriately placed it in E:\Windows\system32\codeintegrity (it was ONLY seeing C: as a system partition) my drive letters were all reassigned.

Sorry this is confusing and a lot of info. Bottom line is, my hard drive is not bad, I see windows on it and all my files and the BIOS recognizes the drive. It is firmly connected and NOT hot to the touch.

From a command prompt I did a bootrec.exe /fixmbr and also /fixboot as the pc was not properly booting up. it still would not boot properly

I am totally unable to go to safe mode (hitting F8) No matter what I do, I get a Windows Splash screen and then my screen goes to a Black Screen with a White arrow cursor, the hard drive appears to be trying to work the light flickers) but it just hangs at the black screen

I have a friend away at school who called and said her computer won't start up. It is a Compaq . She gets the Compaq splash screen, with the F1 for setup, F10 for SystemRecovery, and it gets stuck there.

Pressing F1 on startup gets her "Entering Setup" and then it just sits there. Pressing F10 on startup does nothing at all.

The pc is not giving any beeps as they sometimes do when having a startup problem, nor is she hearing any odd sounds from the tower (hard drive clicking, etc).

Thoughts on what the cause for this sudden meltdown of her pc?

I either play Left 4 Dead or Prototype and my computer crashes with a blue screen when I make a swift mouse motion to the right. It doesn't happen all the time, some days I can play L4D for hours and it won't crash.

Some say the most common thing is Logitech Mouseware. I do have a Logitech mouse, Mx510 Performance Optical Mouse (Blue). I am running on Vista, I have visited the driver site for Logitech and found out that Vista does not require any driver for my mouse, and I never had on in the first place for this Dell XPS M1530. I just plug and use.

So ingame, it would happen when I make a sharp turn with the character to look in first person view to the other side or behind me, with lots of things happening at the same time, such as attacks or explosions, screams etc.

This is what I got as the only info that I could possibly even remember during the 10 seconds before reboot during the blue screen.

There's not much info here to go on, but most BSOD's that occur during games are due to video problems, with audio problems coming behind them.

So, for starters:
- download the latest version of the video and audio drivers for your system.
- uninstall the current video and audio drivers through Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.
- install the downloaded drivers.
- reboot and wait for another BSOD :0)

If this doesn't fix it, you'll have to navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump, zip up the contents of that folder and upload it with your next post.

A:Pc doesn't boot, no splash screen either

Hi All,After a bit of research i came to a conlusion that the above symptoms were caused due to a corrupted BIOS. I run a BIOS reset procedure several times but only started having results after a 24 hour BIOS reset. For those who are unfamiliar with the BIOS reset procedure, please see steps below: 1- Power the machine down.2- Remove all USB connections to the machine (appart from the keyaboard and mouse dongle)3- Unplug mains power from the system.4- With the cable unplugged, press amd hold down for 3-5 seconds the power button on your machine.5- Remove BIOS battery from the motherboard.6- Remove jumper from pins 1-2 amd fit over pins 3-5 (for HP Pavilion p6-2496ea, for other models please refer to motherboard manual).7- Typically you would leave the machine in this state for 15-20 minutes and then follow the rest of the instructions. if a 20 minute reset doesn't work try a 8 hour or 24 hour reset (leaving the machine with the reset jumper on).8- Fit the batery in.9- Remove jumper from reset pins and fit to the default pins, 1-2.10- Plug mains into the system.11- Switch the machine on, you should have a booting system. I hope the above helps you guys, it certainly worked form me. Good luck.

I hope I'm posting this is the right place, instead of hardware.

I'm running WinXP SP2 on a P4, 1GB RAM; ATI All In Wonder 9600 256MB. AVG anti-virus and Win Defender anti-spyware, both auto updated regularly.

Background: for the past several months I've been noticing some gibberish characters in the POST; also some of my icons both in Windows and inside apps have distorted colors and graphics, but still function OK. This morning the system had rebooted and hung in POST. Rebooted and noticed bad sounds from a HD; turned machine off and let it sit a minute, powered up and system went through POST and hung at Win logo screen. Gibberish characters now more prevalent in POST text and also now in BIOS setup. Pulled video card and replaced it with an older but functional card. All gibberish characters gone, but system proceeds to Win splash screen, progress bar spins for 10 seconds or so, BSOD appears very briefly and then system immediately reboots. Rebooted several more times and problem stays the same.

I thought I'd try a fixmbr command, or do a repair from the Repair Console, but now I cannot boot from the CD. I have checked the BIOS boot order (and even disabled all other options) but when the POST gets to "press any key to boot from CD" it seems the keyboard is nonresponsive at that point in the process. Also--I cannot boot into safe mode (F8 key).

I'm stumped. Any insight would be appreciated.

A:Startup Crashes At Xp Splash Screen

Hi Jeff S, welcome to BC!

The first step I would recommend would be to reset the BIOS by either pulling the battery or using the jumper setting specified in the motherboard documentation (which method depends on your specific motherboard). If you would post your system's make and model (or, if you know it, the make and model of your motherboard) we can help you determine how, exactly, to reset the BIOS for your system.

Resetting the BIOS will clear any custom settings saved in the CMOS chip and will revert the BIOS to its default state. Hopefully, whatever was causing the strange characters during POST will be erased.

After resetting the BIOS, try to boot into Windows normally. If that doesn't work, try entering safe mode. If that doesn't work, try booting from your Windows CD.

If your keyboard is USB, then you may have some problems using it between the POST and when Windows loads. If you have a spare PS/2 keyboard, or can borrow one, you should use it instead of a USB keyboard until we get this fixed.

Also, when you boot Windows (after getting the Blue Screen during the previous boot) Windows should give you a black screen with options to start in Safe Mode, use the Last Known Good Configuration, etc. If you get this screen, use the arrow keys to select the option to Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure and press enter. That way, if you get the Blue Screen again, it won't automatically reboot and you will be able to copy down the error info... Read more

Hi, throughout the past week, I have been having a problem when I attempt to exit from any full screen application. Most of the time, the screen goes completely black, except for the mouse cursor. All inputs are responsive, and I am able to restart the computer using the keyboard, which fixes the problem. The problem occurs if full screen mode is interrupted in any manner(close, restore, minimize, etc.). I am planning to perform a series of tests tonight in an attempt to determine whether the problem is software or hardware related. In the mean time, I was hoping that someone here would have had experience with this manner of problem in the past. Last, but not least, here are the afflicted system's specifications:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ processor
Biostar M7NCD Ultra motherboard w/ NVidia NForce 2 chipset
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(Sapphire)
512 MB PC3200 RAM(2*256 dual channel)
Other system specifications available upon request

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi, Welcome to TSF

Whenever I have fullscreen problems I use dxdiag to check out DirectX, and reinstall my graphics drivers.

Can you please post the results of your tests?

Hi guys.

When I start a command prompt, and change to full screen mode, it automatically chooses 720x400 @ 70Hz. How do I change this please? It's not an ideal mode for my flat-screen monitor which has a native resolution of 1280x1024 - so for a DOS prompt in Full Screen mode a better resolution if it's available would be 640x512 or 1280x1024... so that each pixel is used a whole number of times. With 720x400 I get fuzzy...sharp...fuzzy...sharp...

Cheers

Whenever I play fullscreen games such as League of Legends or Diablo. After about a couple of minutes, it will randomly crash. I've done a reformatting on the computer to no avail (the problem still persists). Not sure if it's a hardware issue and if I should get the graphics card replaced.

I've also updated all of my drivers so I know the problem isn't with not having updated drivers.

When it crashes, the screen has rainbow streaks, and the audio starts looping. I have to restart just to go back into my game and whatnot.

Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

(Ingame for league, I turned off video sync and I have settings on low)

Suggestions on how to fix this problem? Should I downgrade my drivers?

Nvida Geforce GT 630
AMD A8-5600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.60 Ghz
8.00 GB Ram

How can I debug this problem?

Also I can't access the boot menu to format from the CD/USB. It takes me to the "start windows normally start windows in safe mode etc" screen.

I've tried all the F keys including the escape key and none of them work, because they all take me to the same screen. The only way I can reformat my computer is by doing it through the actual windows itself. I can't even make my current partition active for some reason even though I'm administrator.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello thanks for looking, My pc just randomly crashes not always when watching full screen graphics but usually. or when sreaming from youtube or the like, I have scanned but when using spybot it struggles to get to the end before crashing, sometimes it will, sometimes it wont. I had Zone labs installed but, would not scan at all, I repeatedly showed error messages,so had to abort scans.

Hi;

Purchased a new PC running Vista 32-bit and when I use the Media Center app, I can't
figure out how to get DVD's, TV, etc into "FULL-SCREEN MODE"? I seem to recall it ordinarily
has an option where you can toggle back and forth between full and reduced screen sizes,
I just can't seem to find it, nor anything on the internet other than suggestions that apply
to Media Player- not Medis Center.

Any suggestions would be genuinely appreciated- thanks!

Hello community, this is my first post here and having exhausted all the asocial options for fixing the problem at hand I have decided to join this forum to see if any of the more tech-savvy among you can help me out here.

Since August 2013, I have been in possession of a computer system from HP-Compaq. It was not the best computer I've had - actually, far from it. In fact the internet browsing on that system was so painfully slow I ended up playing offline most of my days. One of the games I would play incessantly was Age of Empires II from Microsoft, a game which has since lost its support from the studio that produced it, but continues to be popular with retro gamers worldwide, at least, to my knowledge.

My older system has been proved capable of running the game with these specs:

Processor: AMD Vision C @ 1.4 GHz (Quad Core)
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics card: AMD Integrated (<- this was the bit that put me off)
Hard drive: 500GB
Sound system: Realtek HD Audio

http://support.hp.com/doc-images/927/c03048705.jpg
That's what it looked like - the HPCompaq CQ2000 PC.

Despite the unimpressive components, this rig was actually able to play AOE without any major problems. Nevertheless I could not bear the turtle-pace of this ageing device so I took it upon myself to find a new one. I scouted the tech-streets of the web to find such a system, and eventually stumbled across this eye-catching piece of hardware:

Hi,

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

issue seems to be similar to:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/868562-solved-windows-xp-pro-startup.html
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/868463-startup-problem.html
but recommended solutions didn't help so far.

symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen

boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse

test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

could you please help me to find solution to this issue

Issues Ive seen about this had to do with a "laptop" This is about my desktop, thus a different issue.

Anyway here are my specs.

Windows Vista Home Base
manufacture: Dell
Model: Inspiration 531
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Duel Core Processor 3800+ 2.01 GHz
Memory(Ram): 1022 MB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System
Video Card: Nividia GeForce 8600GT

Battlefield 2142 works perfectly fine on my computer, on this game i played it after I installed battlefield 2(I got the collectors edition) and it worked fine(this is on SP) only it was a bit laggy/slow. Then I installed the whole thing, and i put click on the icon and it would show a loading screen, that woudl go poof then a black screen blinks up and then nothing happends.

This is what ive tried

compatibility techniques(with properties)
Couple tricks i learned online
updated direct X
updated My drivers
and some other things.

In my opinion its Vista, I don't know why it doesn't like this game... Can anyone assist me? Brand new game I got, I got tired of playing the same games over and over...

While installing only 1 error came up a few times

"Battlefield 2 was only tested on 32 bit color"\

Only error I got.
Can anyone give me a simple solution(Buying another computer isn't a solution, this is brand new.)

Also I would like to note I waited a WEEK INA HALF just to receive a confirmation email from this site to make a account.

Greetings:

I have a Compaq/HP laptop running Windows XP SP3

I had a nasty virus (SecurityTool) on my computer and thought I had it cleaned out. As the final step, I ran MalwareBytes and it asked me to re-start.

When I tried to restart, the computer started cycling through the Compaq Flash Screen ==> Select_OS_Options ==> Windows Flash Screen, then it would go back to the Compaq Flash screen and it cycles through those endlessly.

If I hit f10 on the Compaq Screen. I can get to the PhoenixBIOS setup Utility. About the only thing i can do in there is run the Hard Drive Self Test under Diagnostics, but it doesn't find anything wrong using both the Quick and Comprehensive Tests.

If i hit the Recovery Console option on the Select OS Options, I get the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the following error:

STOP 0X0000007B (0XF7A57524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

Can this be fixed?

Let me know if you need more information!

Thank you!

Everytime I try to boot...The splash screen freezes after a short time. The POST goes fine. Tried booting to Safe Mode, no luck (I think that's when I got a bunch of text flash on the screen and freeze.) Can't get to a command prompt, either. CAN get into BIOS. Tried reinstalling Windows (although I'd have to pay for it, as it would be my third or fourth re-install), but it froze in the process somewhere. I got to a c: somewhere...I think it was the Recovery Console...yes, it was...but I don't know enough to know what to do. That froze, too, after looking around a bit. Sounds almost like a hardware problem...overheating or something, but I can't figure it out. Built the PC myself, everything was OK except once in a while it'd reboot on its own. I appreciate any help, thanks in advance....

A:WinXPFreezes at Splash Screen, No Safe Mode

the best way to determine if it's hardware is to format/clean install. if it freezes, you've got a hardware problem.

if you have data on your drive you don't want to lose, do a parallel install:
-boot to xp cd, choose to install a fresh copy, leaving the current file system intact.....install on same partition, but choose a different folder, e.g. call it \winxp instead of \windows.
-boot to the new os install
-you should be able to access your data, although you may need to boot to safe mode, login as admin, and take ownership/change permissions
-copy your important data to cd
-format and clean install xp

if it's hardware, and you have spare parts lying around, try swapping parts. but its could also be a driver. a parallel or clean install will determine that. (also, disconnect everything but mouse, keyboard, and monitor.)

you could also try a registry hive swap from the recovery console, but that's a whole nuther post. (yes, nuther is a word.)

All -- any help you can provide would be appreciated. I do not have any desire to pay Lenovo $100 to walk me through the steps of recovering the system.

I have a lenovo ideapad y560 0646 - windows 7 64 bit.

Each time I start the laptop, I get the following error (after the introductory language that says - we're killing the startup to protect you, really, trust us ):

-- ntfs.sys

Then there's the other boilerplate language that it's not microsoft but you, really --

followed by

*** stop: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF98001680000, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF8801c36344, 0x0000000000000000)

*** ntfs.sys - Address FFFFF88001c36344 base at FFFFF88001c2B000, DateStamp 4a5bc14f

If you can help by pointing to something describing the steps to restore the system, that would be great. Lenovo seems to think all hardware is fine but that the operating system is corrupted.

In short, I was using an air card connected to a PC Card Adapter - inserted in the laptop. Hit hibernate and quickly, without thinking, removed the PC Card Adapter from the laptop. Later, when hitting power on, the blue screen appeared and has not left.

I have tried to enter via safe mode, and that does not work.

There's extensive data on the hard drive that I need to take all practical steps to preserve before blowing it up.

Thanks,

A:Blue Screen - Cannot Enter Safe Mode or Any Other Mode

Have you tried reinstalling the pc card adapter and then starting up to see if you can then safely remove it?

As far as the error message itself, "Stop 0x0000007E" or "Stop 0x00000050" Stop error message in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 MS has a fix available at the page there for this type of error.

WinXP Pro
Geforce video 440SE 64MB,

This pc shows bios info (as per normal) then goes to WinXP splash screen and then flickers and then reboots.
Immediately thought it was something to do with the video card... opened the case and the card has a cooling fan that wasn't working... so assumed it was overheating and the cause.

Went out and bought a new Geforce card -- same type and still get the same problem.

This PC WAS working before customer asked me to give it a check-up.
PC boots ok into safe mode.
I've ruled out the processor and the memory (ran tests)... suspect the video settings in some way. I'm not sure what the original monitor was and I just hooked it up to a reg monitor (VGA). FYI, System recognizes the vid card ok in the device manager.

Searched for similar probs .. found some that have not been very helpful.
(One suggestion is to reload WinXP and do a repair of some kind)

Looking for directions.

I'm running Win XP Media Center Edition SP1 2002 now (I reformatted, used to have SP2 installed.) and only recently have I been experiencing this mysterious issue that frustrates me to no end. A little tidbit of information before I go on, somebody installed Windows Virtual Machine (with a windows 98 download from some forum) maybe a week ago. That's when the start-up problems began, so I'm led to believe that this could be the culprit. I have no idea.
Anyway, when it first refused to fully boot, it couldn't get to the Win XP splash screen. I had somebody look at it. He went to the Setup menu and restored it to the optimized defaults. Either that temporarily cured it, or we were lucky. It started up normally and I didn't turn off the computer for maybe two days. After I finally DID shut it down, the problem persisted, however this time it WOULD get to the splash screen, but nothing else. Returning it to the optimized defaults would do nothing. Since the computer was old, slow and flooded with programs I myself didn't install, I thought it was a good time to just reformat the whole darn thing and start fresh. Thirty minutes later, I try to boot up, guess what, the same thing happens. Nothing past the splash screen. It's not like I can restore it to a past setting that worked since the OS is wiped clean. I've read about "faulty hardware" confusing the system, but nothing plugged in that I know of is faulty. Mouse, monitor, keyboard, po... Read more

Then, after the vista "loading" screen (the one with the progress bar), the monitor goes blank. It starts searching for analog and digital input, then it shuts off, then it does it again. My desktop pc has recently started to not load up / boot when I turn it on.

When it manages to turn itself on it all works ok. However oftentimes I have to turn it on and turn it off repeatedly until it finally starts to function.

After going through the same problem today, the pc finally turned on properly and I got into Windows. A few moments after that, the electricity was cut.

Now the pc manages to load up until the Windows XP logo and then crashes. At the loading screen the pc makes three grinding sounds (don't know how to call this... my pc is purring at me ). A blue screen appears for a split second and the pc reboots. No matter what option I select, be it to load in safe mode, last good configuration, and so on, the pc always resets at the XP loading process.

I believe it has something to do with hardware because of the issue with the pc intermittently not even booting up.

I am not too savvy when it comes to pc's, can someone suggest what may be wrong?

I'm not really sure that I have a virus/malware issue but it is highly suspected. Windows XP Home is not able to boot and stops at the splash screen even in safe mode. I have tried to locate a problem by booting from CDROM with BartPE and trying to run portable apps like SpybotSD portable and Malwarebytes. Each one was unable to run because they tried to write files to the boot drive, which was a CDROM. The BIOS on this laptop will not boot from a USB device. I have removed the drive from the laptop and have it connected via USB adapter to an XP Pro desktop. I discovered that most directories in the profile areas were unaccessable, "access denied" errors. I manually changed the properties on all the directories that it would allow me to do so I could access the files. There are still several directories in some of the user directories that I was not able to change the access properties, logged in as Administrator.

I need advice as to what proceedure to use next. AVG Free addition hasn't found anything of any consequence but it is skipping any directory that it can't access. I want to find out what is going on as I need to move the data from this PC over to the new PC the customer has purchased. I was able to image the drive using DriveimageXL but I did get a couple of CRC errors near the end of the process. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there I`ve never posted here before but ive looked over about a thousand threads here trying to find a solution to my problem.
Here`s the problem: I was playing fallout 3 which glitched so I had to hold the power button down till my pc turned off. Now at the windows xp splash screen it crashes, (reboots). It also does this trying to load any form of safe mode. I have a windows xp sp2 cd and I tried to re-install or repair windows but both options result in a blue-screen of death the moment i press `enter` or `r`. I`ve detached and re-attached my videocard, my ram, my dvd burner etc with no success. I`ve messed around with almost every bios option i have only to end up putting them back to default as nothing worked. I am currently running the diagnostic tests on it but all of them so far have passed.

So! I`ve played fallout 3 tons and its never had any problems, at least nothing like this so i doubt it has anything to do with overheating. Also I have absolutely no new hardware, everything should be working fine :(

My pc stats are:
Dell dimension e520 with
intel pentium 4, 3.06g processor
radeon hd3400 on pci-e
1.5 gigs of single channel ddr2 ram at 533mhz
80gig WD sata hd at 7400rpm
running windows xp home sp3, it might be the 64bit edition but my comp is screwed so i cant check it.

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

Thanks,

My computer is running horribly slow and so I've tried to enter safe mode but I get a blue screen with instructions.

It says to check to be sure you have adequate disk space. Says to disable the driver (causing problems) or check with manufacturer for driver updates or try changing video adapters.

I cannot get into safe mode at all to run spybot (freezes when in regular mode).

I had to type this from another computer.

The technical information is:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x80537009, 0xF7A2B1B4, 0xF7A2AEB0)

I've got an HP laptop (dv6568se) and lately it has been having issues going into sleep mode. I close the lid, but it remains on and doesn't go to sleep. I open it back up, and the screen remains black, as if it had tried to go into sleep, but didn't. I can't do anything at this point except power it off by holding the power button.

This started happening around the time I got a base with two fans that plugs into the USB port, could that be the root of the problem? When it booted back up, it gave me this error message:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3

Additional information about the problem:

BCP3: 864591B0
BCP4: A3265068

Hi!I have a Lenovo Y510 P with windows 10. After an automatic update I got the black screen, the fans are going and the keyboard backlight start, but nothing else. This happened before like 3 times but the eventually it just started working after 1-2 days of restarting the computer. But now I've had it like this for 3 week or so. I don't get anything except the black screen and it doesn't respond to anything. Except that I can turn on and off the keyboard lights and if I have the battery in and take out or put in the ac adapter the computer makes a beeping sound. I've tried removing the battery, external devices and the ac adapter and then hold the powerbutton down, no success.I've tried pressing the F-keys to enter safe mood, but nothing happens.I've tried pressing the Lenovo recovery button, still nothing.I've also tried to install windows with a usb but nothing happens. I'm at a lost, does anyone know anythin more I can try??Appreciate all help!!

Hello, guys!
Yesterday I've bought a new PC and successfully installed Windows 8.1.
After a few installations of software (vlc, utorrent...) I've had a blue error screen, after that I can't even get into login screen, windows just won't load "an unexpected i/o error has occurred 0xc00000e9"
I've tried to boot from usb with my windows 8.1, but after Asrock logo (sometimes even without it ) it is just a blank screen.
I can't get into safe mode either ( don't know how. F8 won't work ). First time I've managed to do this while booting the same usb, but now it won't work.
I've tried to install windows 10 on usb and oh yes... it booted after almost 2-3 hours of waiting and everything was very slow. I could not install it due to mbr error. Windows sees my SSD and HDD, so they must be fine, right?
So I installed a new copy of windows 10 into my usb ( gpt, fat32 ).
And... now I can't get past black screen after booting. I see basic screen with windows 10 + memory test. I select windows 10 install or recovery tools, I see Asrock logo and... black screen.
Same with windows 7. "Windows is loading files" and then there is just a black screen.
My motherboard is Asrock z170 Pro4s.
Help me please, I don't know what to do.
I am very sorry for my english.
Best,
Erik

So I'm pretty sure I killed the computer, but as it's my mother's and not mine (and I've expanded any knowledge of computers I have trying to fix it) I'm turning outwards for help.

It's a Compaq Presario hard drive and screen
Windows XP professional
160 GB hard drive
512 MB memory
3400+ AMD Athlon tm 62 Processor
Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE.

I know what the problem is, I had been putting Sims on my computer and it wasn't recognizing the DirectX. Without thinking how it would clearly affect my computer, I searched until I found a source telling me to fix it, I needed to check the driver. Well, I went to add a driver for the GeForce card and it crashed. Onto the blue screen with the STOP: 0x0000007E.
Here's the real problem. I can't get onto the computer to fix it. It goes straight to the blue screen when I restart. I've tried starting it in Safe Mode and every other option it's given me, and it merely goes straight to the blue screen. I've even tried pressing F10 at start up in order to do a system recovery but it doesn't work. I read that the Recovery Console may help me get to the place I need to be to make changes to fix it, but the computer was bought from a friend of my sisters, and the XP software disk wasn't included in what my mother was given.

So, in trying to fix this myself before going to pay for help, I'm asking you guys. Any ideas?

Hi,

I'm just put windows 7 on my friends laptop, all went well until I tried to install the graphics drivers for card nvidia geforce 8600M......then it just boots up with a mostly blank screen with lines coming down, the sound is muted but i think it is booting up into windows as the screen goes lighter after a while.

I've tried everything to get into safe mode or repair but can't......once it did let me into repair (no idea how as have tried everything since and it won't again) so i know it is okay as the screen was fine whilst in repair mode - I used system restore but didn't go back far enough and have just got the same problem now.

I don't have a windows disk, have made a usb bootable repair disk but can't access bios to change the boot order.

I'm guessing the only option is to get hold of or make a windows 7 disk but I really need to get it working tonight if at all possible so would be really grateful if anyone knows of anything else I can try.

I don't understand how/why it let me get into repair mode once but not since.....am wondering if i pressed something different.......have tried f1, f2, f8, del, esc, tapping space bar........none of which give any visible change just the lines down the screen.

Many thanks!

A:Updated graphics drivers - can't see screen or enter safe mode etc

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You don't necessarily need to get into the BIOS to boot from your DVD drive.

Insert your repair disc then tap the one-time boot key for the computer, which should enable the boot menu.

Select the USB drive then press Enter and choose Last Known Good Configuration in the Windows Recovery Environment.

You haven't stated the computer manufacturer, but their support site should explain which key you need to tap to bring up the boot menu.

Hey guys,

Upon trying to turn my comp on, I get the blue screen and cant start up, on restart it lets me in safe mode. The problem seemed to start when I had a redirect malware. I downloaded both Malware Bytes and AdAware to try and fix it. Once Adaware installed, it went to blue screen and since then i can only enter in safe mode. I did some research and found that having 2 adware programs may cause this problem, so i unsinstalled both from safe mode. No luck.

I'm out of ideas, so here are my logs can someone help me? Otherwise it looks like I'm going to have to take it into a store and have it fixed for a huge fee, or reboot windows. I have no system restores

EDIT: this is what the blue screen says:

A problem has been detected and windows has beens hut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Hello everyone.

I've had great success with computer problems here in the past and am hoping someone can help me out again. I've read through some of the 'booting to black screen' posts on here, and it seems like I need a Windows XP recovery disk, which I do not have.

A little bit of info on my problem:

I was given a Gateway desktop by a friend when it stopped working for her and she bought a new one rather than dealing with it. She is not a computer person at all, and could only tell me that it stopped working, no other specifics. When I try to boot the computer, the Gateway screen comes on for a second or two, then it goes straight to black screen. I've tried hitting F2 or F8 or F10, but nothing happens. My friend says that she doesn't think that the computer came with a recovery disk, or if it did, she doesn't have it any longer.

Is there anything else I can try, or do I have to get my hands on a Windows XP disk? I don't think I know anyone who has one, so is there anywhere that I could get one online?

Thanks in advance,
~MR

Black screen...black screen with cursor in upper left corner?Black Screen (fixmbr) - http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;314503 The XP Recovery Console can be downloaded as an .iso file and then burned to CD...which, in turn, allows it to be used to access the Recovery Console commands. XP won't load past splash screen, only in safe mode
I was working on my laptop last night no problems, I shut down normally and return a few hours later, now the thing wont start past XP splash screen (the little blue bars moves across the screen forever), the only way I can get my system going is to start in safe mode. The last time I ran the system I did not install any new hardware or software. I have been battling some spyware recently, namely one called Antivirus 2009 from inetavirus.com. I removed it via Malwarebytes the other day, it came back once, I removed it again and it seems to be gone still. What can I do to fix this? I also cannot run Malwarebytes in safe mode, whenever I do it it freezes my about a minute into the scan on a the follwing item

I sometimes experience crashes when playing some games, which is perfectly normal and I can understand that no program can ever be 100% crash proof, but I have noticed some really annoying behaviour during and after a crash.

With many games, when they crash from a full screen window they often cause the window switching behaviour to stop working, starting task manager to close the program is nearly always impossible because I cant switch to it. Any error dialogues, with important information, cant be viewed because all I can see is a blank black/white window, which cant be closed or interacted with in any way.

Often I find myself struggling to close a crashed app, and resort to logging off or even restarting sometimes.

Things I try that rarely work:

-Trying to even switch window.
-Trying to use task manager.
-Right clicking on the taskbar icon to close (doesn't close the app when pressed)

My question is does anybody else notice/have this issue and do they how it is caused and is there anyway to get rid of it?

A:When a full screen program crashes

Hey,

No, it's not normal for a program to crash or for games to crash.

You'll want to start by uninstalling your 3rd party antivirus and then setting Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too.

If issues persist, attach the results of the tool found here:

I am trying to run IE in kiosk mode for certain shortcuts.

I have full screen mode turned on (F11) and then I remove access to IE to anyone except admins, this gives kiosk mode a close X, retore square, and minimize option(I want users to be able to close the windows without relying on keyboard shortcuts).

If they accidentally click on the restore square, it closes full screen mode. Then the window cannot be closed without ALT-F4.

Anyone know where I can set full screen mode in IE to stay on at all times?

Sorry for the long post.
I am having a problem running DOS in full screen mode. I have 2 programs that I need to use in DOS full screen. If I try to go full screen I get a colored bar across the top of the screen(color changes with the amount of colors I am using) and the machine locks up.

The computer is a clone that I just built. It is running Windows 98 SE and Office 97. Here is my hardware specs:

1.DFI AK75-EC Rev. A Motherboard with VIA Apollo KT133A chipset
2.AMD Duron 850MHz processor
3.128 MB PC133 RAM
4.ATI XPert 98 AGP Video CArd with Rage XL chipset
5.Linksys LNE100TX Etherfast Network card
6.On board Sound Blaster audio
7.EMachines 17" monitor

I have changed the resolution from 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024 and all settings in between. I have also changed the amount of colors used from 256 colors to 32 bit. The only thing that has worked so far was replacing the video card with a PCI card, but it can't do 1024 x 768 resolution with 16 bit color. I know it is not the monitor because I can use a different machine with this monitor and it works like a champion

Ok I hope someone can please help me because this gets very frustrating for me. When I first bring up a video and go full screen (NFL football game) it works fine except I noticed I have to scroll down a little bit to get the bottom menu bar but the picture is still full screen on my TV (HDMI cable). But the first time I back out of full screen to maybe check an email or something, and then try to make it go full screen again, the window stays the same size but the picture itself is the only thing that tried to go full screen but I can only see about 25% of the actual video in that window. I dont know why it does this but I always have to restart my computer to make it work again but then I am stuck with the same problem once more. Any help? I have looked for remote desktop connections but I dont have any on my computer and I cant change any setting there.

Like the title says. My PC crashes after playing a game running in full screen. Whenever I play a game such as UT2k4 or The Sims 2 in full screen mode. It runs fine and I have a good time playing my games with no problem. When I'm done playing my games, that's when the problem happens. I see part of my desktop and icons but it's crashed / frozen. However. When I play a game in window mode and close it out after I'm done playing, it doesn't crash my computer. I thank you all in advance for your help.

I have two displays of which both are running on a single GTX 280. One is a 24" DCLCD monitor while the second is a 42" full HDTV using an HDMI cable. My issue is that when I try to drag a movie in vlc player or any other program over to my 42" TV and try to full screen it, it jumps over on my primary display. No matter what program I use to view a movie in when I try to change it to full screen it flips over to my primary. I never had this issue when I was running my 8800s or pre 180 drivers. I can maximize the program itself but I can't run the move in full screen mode on my secondary display. Also I'm running it in expanded view mode.

A:Full screen mode on 2nd display

It is possible - on Nvidia cards.
I managed it the other week.
You need to define the second screen as the (fullscreen) playback device for films, etc.
I can't tell you where just at the moment as it only shows whilst the second screen is active and I'm watching TV

Hi,

I'm having a few problems whilst running things in full screen mode. I'm trying to run a couple of games in full screen mode, but every so often it just minimises and I have to click back to open them up again. As you can probably tell this is extremely annoying.

This doesn't just happen in game however, something else happens even when using Chrome and typing this. As I type right now, it will randomly click off this window as if a popup has come up and I have to click back into this text box to type otherwise it just makes the windows error noise when you try and type in a box that you can't type in.

I have no idea why it's doing this, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
M

Just finished building my new system and after a trip to tech support for Bios updates, all is working great. I use Windows XP and have loaded IE 7 and so far so good. IE 7 did not work well on my old machine but on the new one, no problems yet.

My question is: When I click on an Icon on my desktop to visit a website, it opens in a minimized size. I would like to have the site open in the full maximized size but can't recall how to do it. I'm pretty sure there is a way?

A:Opening in full screen mode...

You can open first browser window. then click on a link to open a second and with the second drag the corners to the edges of the screen, but do NOT hit the maximize icon. Close the first window, then the second (the order of closing is important). Then do file, close; (do not use the X button), then the next time you open a second browser window, IE saves the new default window size.

Open Internet Explorer
Shift + click a link to force it to open in a separate window
Alt + Tab to return to the first window
Close it, leaving only the small window open
Drag the window edges/corners to adjust the size
Close the resized window

Another way,
Open one IE browser window. Click on a link to open a second.
With the second, drag the corners to the edges of the screen.
Do 'Not' hit the maximize icon. Close the first window, then the
second (the order of closing is important).
Make sure you do File, Close; do 'Not use the X button!
Might have to reboot.

Either way the next time you open a second browser window,
IE saves the new default window size.

Or use

Hey all,

I am actually trying to get this to work on a Windows XP laptop running windows XP Pro.

It's my daughters laptop I passed down to her.

I have it set to automatically launch IE and open abcmouse.com on startup.

However I want to set it up to open in full screen mode. Currently it just keeps opening in regular maximized mode.

Thanks,

-Chad

A:How to open IE 8 in full screen mode every time?

See if this helps:

Locate Internet Explorer in your start menu (possibly under all programs.) Right click on it and in the context menu that opens, click on properties.

The internet explorer properties dialog box will open. From the "run" drop down box select maximized, then click apply, then OK.

Hey everyone, I'm having issues with opening some programs into full-screen mode, these programs include; Warcraft 3, Znesw (Emulator) and also Dosbox.

Here is the problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kslmBNejfFo

What basically happens is, when I open any of these programs they open, but when I try to engage them into full-screen mode they make then screen black for a second or two and then they are pretty much minimized.
When I try to restore them from being minimized, it once again goes black and minimizes the program.

What I have tried:
-Running a virus scan
-Restarting PC
-Running as administrator, Windows Xp, Vista, etc.

Thank you for your time.

PC Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
8GB Ram

When i hook up a monitor to my laptop, and play a movie embedded in a website, the external screen shows only a full screen while the laptop screen shows the normal web page, with the video playing in it.

A:Media player only in full screen mode

Hiya

Which version of Windows Media Player are you using? If its version 10, or even 9, take a look at this:

3.7 How do I get the Player to play in full-screen mode on my second monitor?

Windows Media Player can only play in full-screen mode on the primary monitor. For more information about changing your primary monitor, see Windows Help.

Are you using the external screen as the primary screen?

Hello to all. I'm running Win XP Pro and I just recently started having some display problems with a few programs. I haven't added any new hardware or software recently. My problem is this. Some of my games and other programs have an option to go to the full screen mode. However, every time I attempt to do so with any of these programs, Windows XP immediately shuts down and my computer reboots. I can use all of these programs in the windowed mode with no problem. I thought that maybe my DirectX needed updating so I did so. That didn't fix anything at all. I've run diagnostics on my video hardware and DirectX and it tests fine. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what the problem with the full screen mode might be? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with watching videos (YouTube and the like) in full screen mode. My system is three years old with all specs in my profile. Specifically the problem is that when I start a video from YouTube or wherever for that matter, and I click on the box giving me the option to watch the video in full screen mode, the video box will attempt to go to full screen then will revert back to the initial box size. What can be tried to correct this?

Wow with all the techies out here and I can't get anyone to respond to my question?
GEESH! To add to my question, I should say that I'm reasonably sure my OS is clean and clear of all of the virus/spyware nasties.

I am currently running IE 8. On some websites, I can not get it to enter full screen mode. I have tried View->full screen, Alt + enter, and F11. Nothing seems to work.

On other websites, full screen mode works fine. Is this something to do with the website? Maybe some websites don't support full screen mode?

thanks for any suggestions

So for a while now I've had an issue where anything that's in full screen it will randomly minimize. This includes games and videos. I don't get notifications from any programs. Sometimes it'll minimize once an hour and sometimes it'll minimize every 5 minutes so it's totally random. I've searched literally everywhere for a fix and I just cannot find a single one. Please if anyone has had this issue leave you solution here. I'm currently running windows 8.1.

I should probably also say that if i'm running a game in full screen it minimizes but if i have a video playing on a browser in full screen it'll just go to windowed mode.

A:Anything that is in full screen mode randomly minimizes.
