BF and Valve games crashing, all other games runs fine.

Q: BF and Valve games crashing, all other games runs fine.

Since i bought this rig a year ago i haven't been able to play any games that runs on the valve engine(half life 2, css, portal etc) more than a few seconds and then the comp reboots.
With Bf2 i can play max 30 minutes and Bf2142 maybe one hour then they crash exactly the same way as Valve games..
All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

My comp consist of:

cpu: q6600
gfx: 8800 gt 512mb Point of View
mobo: gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4
ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

Anyone else hade this issue and manage to solve it then please let me know, also greatful for all suggestions.

This has been an ongoing issue.
It's come to the point where I'd actually like to know what's going on for educational purposes.
The games themselves run fine WHILE they run.

Whenever I play a game, it shuts the game down in 1-10 minutes or the computer will shut down. No matter what.
No other application will shutdown. More often than not just the game will shut down.

Troubleshooting I've done.

Cleaned out all parts with compressed air.
Monitored the temp of all components. Gpu not over 60. Cpu not over 75 at any point.
Replaced that graphics card.
Replaced that power supply and tested with 2 OTHER known working psus (Because this screams power issue)
Replaced the ram.
Replaced the OS hard drive and reinstalled the OS clean on a new one. (Issue occurs within Windows 8, XP and Windows 7)
Uninstalled Drivers for my graphics card and installed different ones (After cleaning the drivers out in Safe Mode)
Checked the motherboard for bulging/burst capacitors but it seems fine.
2 memory passes on my ram going through them systematically to make sure all the dimms work.

So it's the Processor or the Motherboard.

Has anyone had an issue like this before? Can anyone give me any tools to better diagnose the health of my CPU or mobo before I give up on this rig and go blow $2000 on another box.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Games keep crashing yet the rest of my system is fine

You probably never updated your powersupply as well. Unless that has around 430Watt or more, it may not be strong enough to handle the extra memory and SATA-disks.

Hi, I'm back again . This time I'm having trouble playing Half-Life 2, the deathmatch for Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike Source. Every so often my mouse suddenly crashes. My keyboard is still active but i can't mouselook or fire, its still frozen in Windows. I'm not having this problem in anyother games like EQ2 or The Sims 2 and it really annoying 'cos when you're about to set a bomb on Counter Strike and win when your mouse crashes it pees you off pretty badly. My mouse and keyboard are PS/2 but plugged into the Trust notebook USB hub. The two cables are connected to the PC for extra power. The mouse and keyboard won't work in the other sockets.

So I got the "Orange Box" for Christmas. It's a very good compilation by the way, and I reccomend it.

I'm running on Windows XP with a ATI Sapphire Radeon X700 Pro. Almost all of the games in the package work just fine, without any issues.

However, I cannot play in Team Fortress 2. I can get to the main menu just fine, but whenever I try to

Load a map,
Join a server, or
Enter the options menu,

The game crashes and gives this STOP error on a blue screen:

The error isn't specific to this game. When I try to play Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, another online Valve game, I get the same error when I try to do the same things.

Also, the original Half-Life and Counter-Strike games get the same message even before I can access the man menu.

Here is what I have tried so far:

-Reinstalling numerous drivers to their latest versions. (Didn't do a thing.)
-Checking my RAM for bad memory. (Nothing.)
-Disabling DEP. (Nuh-uh.)
-Using numerous combinations of "launch options" (Steam users will know what I'm talking about. And, no help there.)

If any one of you can help, I would REALLY appreciate it. I've been wanting to try this for a few months now, and it bugs me that I can't.

Valve thinks Windows 8 will be a big flop for gaming. They hate Windows 8 so much, they are readying all Steam games to work on Linux.

Valve not sold on Windows 8, working on Linux support for Steam as a backup - News -

Newell believes that Windows 8 could be a catastrophe for PC gaming and by expanding onto Linux-based operating systems they can help keep their prospects as broad as possible.
He said, "I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think well lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people. If thats true, then it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality."
"The big problem that is holding back Linux is games," the Valve founder explained. "People don't realize how critical games are in driving consumer purchasing behavior. We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well. It's a hedging strategy."

This is Huge for Linux fans. And it's about time. Windows is awesome but lets face it, many people stick with Windows just because of gaming and that's not right.. Microsoft really does have a monopoly on PC gaming. This may the the catalyst that brings Linux kicking and screaming into the 21'st century.

Windows 8 on ARM won't even play x86 apps or games. Sorry devs, Microsoft says Windows 8 on ARM won?t run x86 apps | VentureBeat another bad sign for gaming.

What I find interesting in the above reply from Microsoft is the fact that X-Box Live and support for all Windows Live games are built into Windows 8. In this they claim the Windows 8 is a "Gaming Platform". To me it looks like more of Microsoft trying to maintain a monopoly on PC gaming.

Don't get me wrong, I love Windows and PC gaming. I have been a PC gamer for over 20 years and don't even own any console systems. PC gaming is best in my opinion. However when Microsoft takes steps to forward their own gaming division with their operating system, and shut out other gaming devs, there is a problem. The above reply from Microsoft reads more like a defense of their own agenda rather than agreeing to be compliant with other gaming technologies. This could mean more badly optimized console clones for PC and less true PC games.

I went out and bought Sims 2, Nhl 2005, and Madden 2005 and I'm having problems with every one

with sims 2 the gameplay is not extremely smooth, but I find no matter what I always end up getting a crash message reading "This Application has crashed, this process will be terminated" i get it either in the first 5 minutes or through 2 hours, but everytime I play it usually crashes.

ok with Nhl 2005 the game plays great on the highest resolution, but sometimes just for kicks i get booted to windows without and messages...or sometimes it even reboots my system again with no message. Most of the time when this happends is when I'm exiting a game to the menu screen. Like I find when I transist from game to menu it like changes the screen and I can see my background for a bit.

With madden the game just runs very slow, even on low resolutions with everything turned down. The textures on teh white jerseys look flickery and the field lines are also jumpy.

This isn't a brand new build but all the parts have been bought in the last year.

I've been working on this problem for about two weeks now.

While under regular use (it has happened in the first 10 minutes to running fine for 2-3 hours), with no warning at all, everything will start to slow down. The mouse will stay responsive and I am able to alt+tab between windows for a short while until everything, including the mouse pointer, freezes and the mother board speaker goes off with a constant tone.

I also noticed when I managed to bring up the task manager during a crash that 0% of the CPU was being used, even by System Idle Process.

I've done extensive testing on the hardware including Memtestx2, Several Burn-in Tests, Prime95 for a few days, and several check disks and XP Repair installs. All of them have come back clean. I can also say that, at least according to speedfan, the system is not overheating.

I did bring my computer in to a local store several times and the first time they said they found a bad RAM stick (which didn't turn out to be bad) the second time they reset my BIOS (To downclock everything, at the moment the BIOS is still on default settings), and this last time they wern't even able to get it to crash there. A:XP Inexplicably crashing. Runs fine then becomes unresponsive w/ mobo speaker tone

Hi Orannis
You seem to have checked everything pretty thoroughly.
I've had trouble with 2 randomly crashing computers. One fairly simply was intermittent fan failure coupled with (on one occasion) a badly clogged CPU fan. The other one, the jury is still out, but I find it is liable to overheat when overworked, which is why I've fixed PC Health to turn it off if CPU temp reaches 60?c.
One thing you don't mention is driver conflict. Loads of opportunity for trouble there.
Good luck anyway

I dont know if anyone can help cause I've looked everywhere online.
For all the more graphically intense games eg: Age of Mythology (offline) , Ijji games, Combat Arms, Maple Story, etc. I've been having some really weird lag spikes that never happened before.

So the game starts off excellent, no lag whatsoever then 5, 10 minutes into the game huge lag spike.

For the fps games the frame isnt frozen just the other people. While my character moves around, a few seconds later people are 20 feet to the left.

Other games (Age of Mythology, Maplestory) is the same except it never really freezes but jumps and its really slow, even though it worked fine for the first few minutes.

I don't know if its my computer or the game. Can someone help?

Hey. I'm Nate, and I've been having an annoying problem for quite awhile. Knowing my PC, it seems like it could run games at a decent FPS, but it doesn't. I play mostly Steam games (source games) such as Half-Life 2 and various mods. With mostly all of these games, I can barely cap 30 fps when staring at a wall, and while playing I get an average of < 15 fps. When the action gets kicking it drops below 10. This is all running on the absolutely LOWEST settings.

Here is my PC's specs:

- P4 2.4GHz
- 1.5 gigs of some corsair RAM
- ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 256mb; driver updated (c8.4)
- Two harddrives: one 120gb and one 300gb, both 7200rpm
- FIC VI35L Motherboard

Thats about all the important stuff, right?

This setup isn't THAT bad. It seems that it should at least hold an FPS above 15 fps. I can barely play these games to the fullest, and it holds my skill level and fun-ness level back a lot >.<. I've tried tweaking the crap out of my games, and updating all of the drivers I can, and even reverting back. Seems to get worse >.>

Simply put: Does my PC suck that bad, or can it be fixed somehow without spending lots of cash? Or is it time for a new rig?
Thanks in advance,

I just got a new laptop (1.4 GHz) with Windows XP, and I'm trying to play Deus Ex, which worked fine on my other computer, but it runs way too fast on this new computer. The cut scenes and everything. The audio is the right speed, but the video and gameplay is too fast, so it only plays the beginning of a given audio track/dialogue/conversation. The game/video runs so fast that there isn't enough time for sound clips to play all the way through. I even have to turn off run mode because if I'm running, I go too fast to play the game. Is there some way I can slow it down and make it run at a normal pace?

I got this Gateway notebook model MA7 after a friend asked me to attempt to fix it and then decided he didn't want it anymore. (For those of you who are curious, the battery contacts were bent out of alignment and the charger was missing, so it was basically a free laptop.) I've noticed that it can hardly do anything more complicated than a game of hearts. The processor specs are 1.6 Ghz, dual core, and 2 gigs of ram. Even relatively simple simulations or 3D rendering situations escape this thing. (ex: Phun and Blackshades run slowly, I can't run anything any more complicated than that, like Cloud.) Techs: Please help! My CPU is spiking to 80%-100% during game play while I am playing Pogo Games on This problem has been happening for a long time so I started watching my Task Mgr to try to figure out what is causing this but I've had no luck so I need your help.

I have been playing pogo games for years, using either IE or FF. Yesterday I changed browsers to Google Chrome thinking there was a compatibility issue between IE/FF and Java but that wasn't the case b/c my CPU also spikes with Chrome but different programs cause the spike. Through my own research I have found the following programs to cause the spike: java, adobe flash, adobe reader, plugin container, alg and now it's chrome.exe. When alg.exe was cauing the high CP usuage I checked my computer and found alg.exe in C:\Win\$NTServicePackUninstall$, C:\Win/Sys32, C:\Win\ServicePackFiles\i386 and in c:\Win\Prefetch. I thought I might have a virus so I ran a full scan using SuperAntiSpyware which did not correct the problem so I then did a system restore back to Jan 11th. After that alg.exe still appears on my Task Mgr but no longer caused the extreme usage. Now the extreme usage is being caused by chrome.exe if I use Google Chrome and java.exe if I use Internet Explorer or Firefox. Note: The fans turn on high (and loud) for about a minute and the CPU spikes to 80%-100%, but only after playing for an hour or more. If I continue to play, this happens about every 30 minutes ... So I have been plagued with a problem that has plagued me ever since I had my processor reseated in hopes of solving a boot-up problem: YouTube videos will consistently cause a BSoD upon even so much as scrolling into them. I thought I solved this problem when I uninstalled then reinstalled Adobe Flash and Shockwave, and I think it did work on browsers, but just now, viewing a Flash video on Steam crashed it.
Meanwhile, a cursory test of the Witcher ran without so much of a flicker. Hey, that rhymes.

I'm highly tempted to just reformat at this point, but half a terabyte would definitely not fit on a DVD, so I'm turning to the forum for advice.
EDIT: I might be jittery from the nasty surprise, but I think browser YouTube is causing it to stutter... No, the video itself seems to be stuttering...

I'll begin by saying how it happened:

My PC used to be filled with junk files and had some viruses that got through my anti-virus and couldn't be cleaned. One of my co-workers suggested I do a factory reset, and while I am an avid gamer, I don't really understand much when it comes to hardware, so I let the IT company I usually go to do the reset.

Prior to the factory reset, I had many games on my PC - Two of them were League of Legends, and the non-steam version of an MMORPG called Wakfu.

After the reset, I redownloaded these games, and once I opened the launchers for either of these two games, my PC screen froze.

Suddenly I can no longer watch movies. Games play, cds play, audio fine. But I put in a movie and it's like there's no disc here. We've watched movies on it for over a year, so I checked multiple movies that once worked. I've followed the troubleshooting, tried to update driver. The wizard could find no better driver than what is already being used. I DO NOT get an error message. I just don't get anything to show up either under My Computer or in Media Center or Media player. This stumps me. I read somewhere "Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 (KB925398)" was a problem but I even went to add/remove programs and couldn't find that particular update, so I couldn't uninstall that. I have a gateway with a tsstcorp dvd +_ rw mlti format double layer drive and Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Thanks for any help.

A:dvd movies stopped playing - games, cds fine

I have an HP a1540n desktop with two R/W CD/DVD drives and two megs of RAM. Recently both drives stopped showing or copying DVDs. When I tiried to copy DVDs I get a message that advrcntr2.dll is not on this system.

I went on the internet and downloaded this .dll and put several copies in various media players and on my Desktop. Still no success. What should I do next and what might be causing this problem?

Been getting BSOD when playing CS GO regularly (and immediately) and occasionally on WoW. The best way I can explain the issue is the screen starts to flicker with various shapes and lines, then the display goes out as if I am opening a game in full screen, then my sound starts to repeat, and the cycle ends with a BSOD. I do not have the error # right now, but can probably get one if I need to. I've tried troubleshooting issues myself, tried various settings in both the games, reformatted, and even upgraded my graphics card from a gtx 460 to a GTX 760(the issue started to happen regularly with the 460, immediately after upgrading it did not occur for about a month before it started again). I do not get the issue in Dota2 or heroes of the storm. Not really sure what to do...

Attached is the DM log.

After I play games like WoW and Star Wars Galaxies, my computer runs excruciatingly slow and I have to reboot. The games themself run fine though.

I asked some friends of mine who play the same games and have the same computer as me, but they don't seem to have this problem.

I have Windows XP and my computer is only about a year and a half old.

I have an Asus laptop that runs on an i7 processor. It was stocked with a windows 7 home premium OS. Games run smoothly on it, without any lags or low FPS rates.

Then I reformatted it and installed windows 8 pro (clean install). The first week of having win8 pro, games such as NBA 2K12, NFS Hot Pursuit and GTA IV ran smoothly. Then after a week, i noticed that every game, even LoL, ran with a much less FPS. It lags and as if it is impossible to play.

I reinstalled it thinking that it was just an OS problem. but lags still exists. now, i am back to windows 7 pro, and i am able to play games smoothly.

any comments? how can i play games on my laptop smoothly?

Well , what drivers are you using ? , you seems out of luck as Asus don't provide drivers for it. With notebook you better use manufacturers drivers ( asus ) AMD have a tool to check if the generic ( AMD ) driver will work on your laptop .

AMD Catalyst

On a Notebook it's very important to check if the manufacturer as the drivers for Windows 8 before install it, if I was you I will keep Windows 7 until you change your notebook.

I have experienced this problem for quite a while now with a lot of games;

I used to be able to play the following games just fine:
Gunz: the duel

and some other freetoplay games. they worked great and I enjoyed playing them.
Anyway, now, some years later, when I try to play any of those games I get the following Bluescreen stop error:
***STOP: ERROR 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xB9DFCAE5, 0xB9C42B4C, 0x00000000)

this is what I tried to do so far:
cleaning my pc (wiping all the dust from fans and RAM that is)
uninstalling my videocard driver and installing again
scanning my pc with lots of software

Reinstalling windows fixed the problem for one of those games (gunz) but with the other ones i am still experiencing the same problem over and over, whatever i try...

I have uploaded the most recent minidumps. I hope you can help me.

oh right, my pc specifications:
2GHz pentium 4
GeForce Ti4200 (128MB I believe)

If you need to know anything else for you to help me please let me know

All the dumps crash at khips.sys, which belongs to Kerio Personal Firewall. I found the following thread that says there's a conflict with any game that uses GameGuard. The error is the same as yours, but I can't get the process from your dumps.

The last post is dated February 22, so there may not be an update available. You can always try a different firewall.

I built a computer for my wife over the summer, and she gave me to me for my birthday. But, recently I've been having a number of blue screen problems when I play games. I've tried replacing my RAM, and had problems with one of the sticks the other one only showed 3 errors after 11 passes through Memtest, so it may be due to that.

I didn't know that CCleaner removed minidumps, so these are the only one's I can provide. I've had a number of errors from ntoskrnl.sys

Hi. I'm new here but please help.. this is a weird problem & getting in the way of my work.

This is a new problem with the computer. My hard drive died & upon formatting the new one, this problem occurred.

64-bit Vista, high end comp.
I have 4 USB devices: a wireless network card, a mouse, a keyboard, and a midi piano.

The wireless network card works without any problems at all times but when I'm in Vista my mouse is very jittery and skips all over the screen. My keyboard lags and will occasionally freeze up and not read the input or freeze on a specific key & type that letter until it unfreezes a second later. When I'm playing my midi-usb piano it freezes up and plays strangely (it's basically the same problem for all 3 devices). My mouse is pretty much unusable.

What I found strange though is when I started up a game in full-screen, everything worked perfectly.

I have no viruses. I tried different devices, I tried unplugging certain devices. I tried disabling my anti-virus and restarting. The only thing that helps is if I play a game.

I've had a little search before posting, but didn't see anything exactly like my issue.

I have a Ienovo laptop. It's not ideal for games, but it has always run everything perfectly well when played on low settings (for new games at least. Old games worked fine on any settings)
I'd happily play with 35fps on most games. World of Warcraft would run on 20fps, but I'd never get any lag.
No lag at all.

And I had a happy gaming life.

Then a Windows update went wrong and became stuck in the eternal boot loop of doom. In the end I had to do a complete system restore and start again from scratch. This is where the trouble began. After reinstalling Windows 8 I found that I would get either huge lag spikes or just constant high latency.

Just to make clear, the laptop's hardware hasn't changed. This is not a hardware issue. Before the reinstall everything ran PERFECTLY. After the reinstall, it is near impossible to play games online. Even very processer light games struggle. I want to make this clear because people usually immediately say, "maybe your hardware isn't powerful enough". Before the reinstall I was getting an average of 50-100ms on World of Warcraft. Now I get around 1500-3000ms. Again, I have an Intel HD Graphic Driver (which sucks, I know) but clearly, it used to run the games well enough.

I upgraded to Windows 10 because I thought that it might help. My problems haven't improved and I still suffer huge lag.

I'm having some connection issues with my wireless internet upstairs, specifically with browsers (using Firefox but I have issues with Explorer and Chrome too). My laptop shows that the signal strength is excellent but for some reason, when I browse the net, the loading is always pooping out or is really slow. I never actually get a "there is no connection" message though. I would be signed into my gmail account and still get new email but the chat is always saying that it can't reach gmail. I can however connect to online games and play with no problems whatsoever.

My bedroom is right above where the router is and I didn't have this problem before. It just started a few months ago and it's really starting to bug me. My desktop (which is also using wireless) and my iPod work perfectly fine as well as my husband's computer and laptop. It seems only my laptop is having this issue.

Both related to your video driver. Re-install using these instructions.
When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Hello everyone.

Currently, I live in a college apartment that has internet for the building. Not that many people are here, so I figured it would be okay. Here is a speedtest:

As you can see, it should be decent. It IS decent when I'm browsing the internet..facebook, email, youtube, etc.

It is also fine when I am downloading files.

But when I play games in Steam, it is very slow. When I search for servers, the pings are all 1000+. When I join a game, my ping is 500-600 and it's unplayable cause of how jumpy and choppy I am.

The thing about this is that when I download steam updates/files, it downloads at regular speeds!

How can I fix this? What settings do I look at? I've heard of port forwarding and things like that, but I am not sure exactly what to do.

One huge detail: This very same internet used to run the game fine, as well as World of Warcraft (I haven't tested that game with the internet now since I quit a while back), but there was a huge power out, power went out for 5 days, and now it's running slow.

So anyway, any help would be appreciated. Basically, why are games running super slow when everything else is pretty good?

A:Internet working fine in browsers, but in Steam games? Slow

As the title says, I am bsoding when playing CS:GO. It just started happening today, my pc has been rock solid until now. Looking at the dumps it looks like a hardware issue, but I haven't changed any of my hardware recently. The crashes happen anywhere from 4 minutes in to an hour out.

What I've tried so far:
Updated all the drivers
Airdusted the inside of my case
Running memtest overnight - will update
Ran malwarebytes - nothing detected
Ran SFC /SCANNOW - it fixed something idk what it was but after restart I still got BSODs when playing CS:GO

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

A:installs fine, runs fine, reboots..not fine

Did you delete/recreate the partition? If you haven't then do this first and try re-installing Win 7. I wouldn't recommend removing the watermark as that can have unpredictable results.

So I just started having this issue today to where none of my facebook games will load in IE10, but when I try to go and play them on Google Chrome they load just fine, what I have tried already is clearing my internet browsing history and cache and got no results out of that and another thing I tried is deleting all the storage from the flash player that did not work, how can I get my games to load properly again I do not want to use Google Chrome as I only use it to upload videos to youtube, I want to use IE10 as I have been any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

A:Games refusing to load on IE10, but work just fine in Google Chrome

Chrome has Java and flash built in,
ie has never so the first place to check is removing any existing Java/ Oracle and flash and replace them,
Then make sure they are enabled,

You might find joy switching to software rendering instead of gpu rendering,

You can find more here,

Also make sure active x filtering is not activating,
Gear symbol on the top right/ Safety/ Uncheck anything that is checked,
Run this as a additional way to clear caches,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

I've noticed that when trying to play games (Starcraft 2, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, King Arthur: Collection), I can play for a little bit, usually between 20-40minutes but then when I'm playing the screen will all of a sudden go black/dark blue and the audio will start looping. Sometimes the computer will then restart itself, other times I will have to hard reset it myself by physically pressing and holding the on/off button on my case. I had been hoping it would be an outdated driver for the graphics card, but I have updated to Catalyst 11.12 and there is still problems, I have also tried Catalyst 11.5 and 11.11 and each version I still have crashes on. I have tried re-installing Windows 7 again and that also did not fix the problem. Today I updated my BIOS to the latest version and that seemed to fix it for a bit but then it crashed again. I have tried just about everything I can think of and nothing seems to fix it. Could you guys possibly help me out?

My specs are;
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit

What kind of PSU are you using and have you checked the actual power out it is providing? Have you run memtest86 (google it, it's a free utility) to test your RAM? These are the two most likely culprits. Also, make sure you're running a stable driver for your video card. Try 78.05 for a 6600 series.

i have some sort of hardware issue, but i haven't been able to narrow it down... all my games are crashing, giving me the main .exe file as the app name and mod name in windows error reporting... is it possible that my radeon 9200 is conflicting with the nvidia chipset on my motherboard ?(gigabye GA-7N400-L) i have the newest drivers for both, and all my windows updates (except SP2)... all other system drivers look ok, and i have the newest directx... it started happening the first time i put a game on after a fresh format/reinstall of XP
what's going on???

Most of my games crash after playing them for a little while. I play games like CS:GO, GTA 5, Rust, and other games as well. These games usually crash but at different times and each individual game crashes differently.
I have a GTX 660 Graphics card, Intel Core i7-4770K CPU at 3.50 GHz, and it is a 64-bit Windows 7 Operating System.
Please help.

Let's get a few reports to help sort this out.
First is this one:

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:
Next, please provide these reports (even though you're not reporting BSOD's).  They'll contain other info that will help troubleshoot this problem:

I tried to play the game Half-Life 2: Episode One a week ago. When I started it, I noticed the little black holes in the textures. Fine, I can live with that, I thought, but suddenly, the game crashed and ATI Catalyst opened the Send Error Report window. I sent it twice, but they're still not responding. I tried to play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines too, but the same thing happened (it was working just fine two months ago). The first thing I thought was that there was something wrong just with those games (cause they use the same engine), but I noticed those little black holes in the Catalyst Control Center "3D" tab, window with that red car in 3D (it doesn't crash though).

i use vista 64 bit for gaming as well as xp pro. i have 2 hard drives. one for vista and one for xp. i can play any game i want on xp pro flawlessly. but almost any game freezes on vista. i have tried many clean installs and everything i can think of to stop this from happening. i really like vista but for gaming it has been a horrid experience for me on vista. i have an ati 4870 1 gig gfx card,Q9550 quad core 2.83 cpu with xigmatech cooling. 750 watt psu corsair and 4 gigs of ddr2 1066 ram. now let me clarify i have tried many ideas from an over clocking forum. being i can run anything fine on xp with no problems tells me it is not hardware but a software issue. but it is figuring out what software is causing the hard freezing on vista hdd during gaming has me dumbfounded. seems L4D runs fine but bf2 and cod4 hard freeze resulting in a hard reset. i thought it was punkbuster, but it does it in non PB servers. now i do have a wireless card i use for gaming, some think it is the wireless driver, but it works fine and i can use it fine for xp. xp never gives me any headaches on anything. but vista doesnot seem to like online gaming and sometimes locks on when using online updating for drivers/software. ????????

A:games crashing

first off XP is way more stable than vista (i love vista but it is the truth).

i also would lean to it being the wireless card, as i have no issue playing any games on my rig with Vista x64.

can you hook up a wired connection to the rig to see if it still freezes with that connection or no?

A:All 3D games crashing

Whats the crash error?

My one thought is, if it wasn't a driver issue, maybe your video card is dying. Lets hope that isn't it.

Install or update anything recently? A new antivirus or spyware scanner?
Defraged your hard drive?
Tried disabling any Virus scanners you may have?

About a year ago i built my computer and had no problems at all. Maybe 6 months ago i started having trouble with my games, i would start to play when all of a sudden the screen went to some weird screen with vertical lines of usually 2 colors going down the screen and whatever sound was being played in the game would loop and play over and over. Ive probably spent more time troubleshooting then actually playing games these last few months, im pretty sure ive tried everything. Things ive tried:
Increasing the fan (not a temp problem)
reinstalling graphics card
overclocking in any and every way you could possibly think of
cleaning all the dust out
running torture tests (no errors)
switching monitors
check my power supply (its plenty enough)
and a few other things

For about the last month i havent had any issues at all but now all of a sudden the crashes are coming back. i havent changed anything or done anything different so im not sure why.
Games it Happens to: CODMW2 , Mass Effect 2 , Borderlands.
Games that work: Assassins creed , ETQW , FO3 , L4D2

I noticed that all of the games that dont work i got on steam, could this mean anything? but l4d2 was also purchased through steam but it works.

System Specs:
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Processor 2.60 GHz
8gb ram
Windows Vista 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 4850

Im really confused and would really appreciate any help.

A:Why do my games keep crashing

What driver set are you running? Catalyst 10.1 is the latest I think.

Is DirectX up to date? What happens if you try to run games in DX9 mode?

I wouldn't try messing with the clocks unless you're looking for additional problems. If the card doesn't work well on factory settings then it's rarely worth your time to experiment with clock speeds. Vertical lines can point to faulty video memory, and although you may not experience problems in some games, the card may be going south.

All games are crashing after a few minutes of play.
The games are Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Siege, Soldier of Fortune 2 and Divine Dininty. This problem seem to start around the time I installed Divine Divinity. This was the last game I installed. Divine Divinity never worked correctly.

I used System Suite 4.0 to diagnose any problems and checked for viruses. All checked out OK.

Any suggestions would help. Thanks

i feel for you. that's my problem too.

one moment Morrowind was running fine. the next time i opened it, it was freezing on me, making me do cold boots. i HATE that. anyway.. these suggestions are a little unorganized, but here they are....

have you tried RESTORE to the point before you installed Divine Divinity?

what about the basics? have you tried...

... to close down all virus scanners, disk doctor, anything that runs in the background?

... uninstall the games and reinstall one at a time? testing after each install?

what about your drivers? have you tried ripping them out (registry included) then booting into VGA mode?

have you uninstalled and/or deleted your hardware from your device manager? reinstalling each thing, one at a time?

have you tried using hardware acceleration? turn it down a notch at a time and attempt to play? going all the way down the scale? what happens?

tried playing with no sound? sometimes sound drivers really mess games up.

good luck.

I really don't know if anyone can help here, as this post is going to be rather vague. Still, I'll give all the information that I can. I've checked and from what I can tell, all my drivers are up-to-date, as are my Windows updates. I haven't installed much, but I did uninstall a software firewall I had to see if that may have been the problem, and it didn't change anything.

Every game I've played for a decent length of time on this 2-week old PC has crashed at some point. Some more than others. Firstly, I'll give my specs.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro
RAM: 4 GB (4 x 1 GB) Geil 'Black Dragon'
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4870
HD: Segate Barracuda 500GB
Case: Antec 300
PSU: OCZ 600w StealthXStreme
Peripherals: Razer DeathAdder mouse and bog standard old emachines keyboard

Now, the list of games I've tried.

The Sims 2 - The main culprit. Usually it would start up fine and dandy, and then as soon as I went onto the 'create a character' area, it would crash within a few minutes. the crashing involved the screen sort of being divided into squares and misaligned, and the sound in my speakers repeating the last note of the music that had happened as it crashed. No response whatsoever from my computer and as a result me being forced to manually shut it down.

I tried this game again today and it lasted much longer. About an hour, maybe. Everything w... Read more

Help! I have a problem with my system.
I have an Asus N51v with an Nvidia GeForce 240m and an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.80 GHz along with 4 GB of ram and a Windows 7 32-bit operating system.
Now, ever since, about a month of purchasing my notebook, I had the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys bug which caused artifacts and crashing for ONLY my games. I'd be able to do quite literally everything else without a problem. My games would crash in a time frame of 1-2 minutes all the way to 8 hours depending on the games. I still have the artifacts and the crashing which usually locks up my computer. I've looked into it previously and found out that this can sometimes be caused by temperature.
I've clocked my temperature and it has an idle temperature of 122 F.

Basically, I need help. ASAP.
I'm worried I may need a new graphics card in which case I'll just send the entire system over to Asus to repair it. I need my computer though. XD

Hi all:

I have checked out a few forums and saw some people had the same problem I am having, but their resolutions didn't work for me.

I have an Athlon XP 1800, Win2k, 512 RAM, PNY GeForce 4 Ti4200.

Recently I updated my Battlefield 1942 to the 1.6 patch. The game ran smooth for a little while. Then one day it would crash (either crash window completely, or sometimes I could esc to the Desktop) just as the level was done loading.

I thought it might be a problem with just that game, but it seems to be doing it with every game now! Within a couple of seconds into the gameplay, it would freeze. The only option is to restart the PC.

I have re-installed the nVidia driver, reverted to an old (v44) driver, updated my DirectX to 9b, updated my via chipset drivers, disabled the fast write in bios, decreased my memory frequency.

Some people have said that they reformatted their HDD, reinstalled the OS and it still had the same problem.

Also, I contacted PNY (my card's manufacture) and they told me I could RMA it, but that they could tell if I was overclocking it, which would void my warranty.

Well, Ive never done any HARDWARE overclocking, only slight driver-level overclocking. Do you think they can tell if I have done that?

Thanks for any help

I have been having problems with games crashing on my computer lately. I mainly play World of Warcraft. Whenever I start WoW my comp will run for 10 min or so and then I will get a VPU recover error. WoW will continue running for anywhere from 30 min to a few hours longer and at that point the monitor will flicker off but the computer will continue running. At this point I have to restart the comp to get the monitor to work again. I have the latest video card and chipset drivers along with completely upgaded win 2K OS. The only weird part is that this problem is intermittent, my comp may work fine for a week or so and then it starts crashing. I have reformatted numerous times and it seems to work ok immediately, but the problems always come back in a week or so. Forgot to mention I have a 420W raidmax power supply that came with the case. Any help to remedy this problem would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Crashing during games please help !!

Most PS's that come with case are usually crap. Thats why the case and PS costs less than a good PS alone. Most of the cheap ones dont even put out the power they claim and can even damage components over time. The components you have use quite a bit of power. You can get a good Enermax or Antec PS for about $40-50.
When I first got my 9800 it ran so hot that it would lock up. I had to put on an aftermarket cooler. You can also try an older driver. Also make sure Fast Writes is turned off. FW tends to make ATI cards unstable.

Hello. I'm new to the forum so I hope someone can help me, and I hope this is considered the correct section.

I have recently bought a new Gaming Vibox computer, and when I play any games, after about 15-20 minutes the game crashes, freezes or minimizes to 3/4 screens.

I have had the error message 'Amd Driver stopped responding and has recovered' show up numerous times, but it doesn't always.

I have checked all my drivers are up to date and am just wondering what else I can do? Been searching the internet for a few days and still can't find a solution. It happens with every game I play - Skyrim, Football Manager, Company of Heroes!

My computer specs are:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) X4 750K Quad Core Processor, 4000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Graphics Chipset : AMD Radeon HD 6450
RAM: 8gb

Running windows 7 32 bit

Sorry I know you'll need more information on computer but my minds gone blank staring at it wondering what you'll need to know!!!!

I hope someone can help please, it's infuriating me!!

Recently I was having an issue with my PC with my computer games crashing and was getting BSOD. I decided to build a new computer, replacing EVERYTHING, including the case. I am still having the issue. I try to play games like RIft, APB, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Mafia, etc.

They all either crash with the report error to developer OR just close without any reason. I don't get any indication the program has closed or stopped working.

I have no idea why, with NEW computer parts, that I would still have a similar issue. I took everything out of the computer, re-seated it, reformatted all of my HDD, re-installed the OS on other drive, removed older HDD, switched to SSD.

No matter what I do, I still get the same issue and I am at a loss. This has been going on for about 3 or 4 months and it just getting worse with the newer parts.

I have attached my DXDIAG:

Okay plain and simple every time I load any type of game it crashes 5 minutes into gameplay. I have checked the event viewer and got errors about my catalyst screwing up, so I wiped all of AMD drivers and reinstalled. That didnt work so now I ran some games again and still just crashes with no errors at all. Check event viewer again and saw this error

Hello all.

I recently bought a Geforce 8400GS. Installed and everything works fine except games...

First tried starting WoW, the blue screen pops with a massive message but I cannot read it because the computer reboots itself, fast.

Tried with a different game, Call of Juarez, and the same happened.

Any ideas? Installed latest drivers and cleaned of old ones.

Okay...rebooted for 5th time and everything works.

But WoW is lagging worse than my old integrated geforce 4mx....

It isn't the internet.

Hello. I've already posted about this and no one could help. It's still not fixed and it's driving me nuts.

I'll be playing a game. And all of a sudden the screen freezes and gets 'muffled up' with weird squares. Shortly after the sound will start repeating. It is a hard crash that forces me to turn it off manually.

I've updated my drivers. No use.
I've checked the temperatures. No use.
I've spent hours Googling. No use.
I've checked the event log. No use.
I have ran programs that put excessive stress on the video card / CPU / RAM individually and together to see if these can simulate me playing a game so I can narrow down which component is the problem. It didn't crash during any of them.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro
RAM: 4 GB (4 x 1 GB) Geil 'Black Dragon'
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4870
HD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB
Case: Antec 300
PSU: OCZ 600w StealthXStreme
Peripherals: Razer DeathAdder mouse and bog standard old emachines keyboard
In the event log I saw "A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (Fallout3)". A Google search led me to believe that disabling Windows vista Aero might fix it. It didn't.

I have recently built a new pc, evrything is sweet for the majority of time until I play certain games. games that I am having trouble with are: guild wars 2, batman arkam city, dirt 2. the problem arises after a undetermined period in game which gives a black screen and a flickering of sound. there is no way out of this and I am forced to hard restart.

My system specs are:

intel i7 2600k 3.4ghz
8 gig ram
nvidia 570 gtx

I have the lastest GPU drivers and even tried the beta ones to no avail.
Any pointers would be most appreciated thank you.

I am having trouble with video games crashing. The more graphically intensive a game is (particularly FPSs), the more likely it is to crash. It never dumps in the same spot either... sometimes it will run a while, sometimes it crashes right away.

I am running a ATI 8500 All-in-wonder and a Sound Blaster Audigy SE, but I recently changed both video and sound cards and the hard drive and it didn't help.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I can post the stack dump here if it will help, I never could read those things....

I noticed this was happening a few weeks ago as I exited games, it would suddenly stop working and get an error "program failed" message in multiple games (oblivion and left 4 dead). In the last week, it's started to happen more and more often. Now it's closing out programs 5 minutes in to any 3d game (oblivion, fear, left 4 dead).
This is strange, as I've been using this system for months with no problems.

Tried running oblivion in a smaller window with speedfan on. Temperature peaked at 53C, and then cooled down a bit, and then computer crashed a few seconds later. Later I started up l4d on single player, paused it immediately to go to the bathroom, came back and it had crashed.

Some of these problems occurred after installing a new kodak printer. I'm noticing now that the kdiscover.exe is crashing often, although not neccessarily at the same time as my games. I uninstalled that as a test, still crashes. I also tried shutting down racagent (as that helped a friends computer). At the time it seemed to help, but the crashing continued to get worse.
I thought that drivers might be the issue, but newer drivers has not stopped the problem. I run AVG every morning, no viruses detected thus far. And the computers not running slowly. I ran defrag, and ccleaner doesn't detect any problems. Some of the other programs (registrybooster) did, but I would rather not pay $30 dollars unless I'm sure it will solve the problem.
I've attached the msinfo and dxdi... Read more

Apart from kdiscover.exe, do any of these game crashes point to a particularly consistent .exe or .dll in the error message?

I'm running legit copies of Halo 2 and Assassin's Creed, and they tend to crash my display driver/video card at any random old time. Usually around 5 minutes in. Less for AC. I know it's the display driver or video card or whatever because the game freezes with red squiggly lines all over the place, then the monitor says no input detected. The computer, however, is still running. I have Vista Ultimate 32bit, and an EVGA 8800GT. I can post more info if necessary, but please if you have any suggestions let me know. All my drivers are up to date and I disabled my onboard graphics in my bios so that only PCIE is outputting. Thanks in advance.

"If" you are overclocking, try turning the clock speed down. If not, then based on your description of the "red squiggly lines all over the place, then the monitor says no input detected." sounds like either the resolution is set to high, or more than likely, your video card is failing.

It would also help if you posted your system specs as well.

My friend has a custom built gaming PC and recently he has experienced game crashes quite frequently. All Steam games crash, as well as all Blizzard games (Unexpected Fatal Error). He has updated video card drivers, but to no avail. I know he replaced the GPU as well as CPU. Perhaps he did not do it right, or could this be a power issue? His dad built the computer and replaced the parts, so he doesn't know about his Power Supply Wattage.
Thanks in advance.

Here is his build.

Memory:Corsair 8 GB
GPU: GTX 670

ok, so basically when i play nearly any game with 3d graphics, most notably those recently like battlefield 2, company of heroes (demo), C&C zero hour, act of war, stuff like that, the screen freezes, sometimes a load of artifacts appear on screen and then it will go black with something in the bottom right (to do with the monitor, dont think its important tho i'll find it and put it on here if it helps) before apparently going on standby (light goes from green to orange). this happens nearly all of the time i try and play a game and it is really frustrating. a similar problem happened a couple of months ago with the "no signal" error but i managed to fix that, however its just been in the last couple of weeks that this new problem has started happening.
earlier today i took the case off (carefully mind so as not to disrupt the airflow inside the case, to blow what little dust there was off the fans and everything, but it did the same again, with this error coming up "STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER" (taken from microsoft error report page thing). now installing the newer ATI catalyst drivers wont help, i know this because it didnt work last time and when that happened i had to update stuff in the device manager. i did that earlier but i didnt work. what i'm going to try right after this is take out all video drivers, reinstall and try to see if some newer omega ones ive got on here work.
p.s., is the pc anygood? i think i might... Read more
