Games that used to run on my system don't anymore???

Q: Games that used to run on my system don't anymore???

I think I am in the right place but if this thread should be in another spot let me know.

I bought a computer a while ago and because it has a GeForce 7800 GS video card it sadly has the infinite loop problem. I managed to fix the Blue Screen of Death errors this problem causes when I downloaded the latest drivers for my card. I haven't had the crash problem since, but still have video rendering problems when I play some games like Battlefield 2 for instance what happens is the environment goes all screwy, I see a checkerboard type map on the ground or the image of the gun I am holding has odd triangle shapes coming off it or when I get into a vehicle the view is all triangles and flashing object or the other characters in the game look all sparkly and seem to be made up of odd triangle shapes. The only way to fix this is to reboot the system closing the game and starting it again doesn't work. Anywho the main reason I am here is because since I updated the video drivers ( I don't know what they were before or if this is the real reason for the problem) or because of something else other than the driver update, I can't say for sure as I didn't notice the problem right away because I didn't start the affected games for quite some time after the fact. I can still play COD4 but COD5, COD6, and Black Ops all fail to work and close down before they start COD6 actually stutters at the menu screen and I have to shut the system down by pulling the plug. COD5 and COD6 worked when I first got the system I have tried uninstalling them and reinstalling them to no avail. And as far as I am aware if COD6 works then Black Ops should too. I have Medal of Honor 2010 and it works OK. I also have Quantum of Solace and it has the same problem and so does Assassins Creed 1. All of the games should work on my system according to the sys requirements or due to the fact that similar games that need more than what I have do work if I turn down some of the settings. Normally when I have in the past had one of these games crash after installing all I had to do was choose "Start in Safe Mode" to get them to work where I could fiddle with the video options to get them high enough to work but not so high they either crashed the computer or messed with he gameplay too much.

Normally I would post all my system specs and hijack logs etc... but instead of posting info that you might not need please just let me know what I should post for you to be able to help me. Also it is possible my system has registry problems and or virus problems which is causing this. I have had my Internet stop working and the only way I have been able to fix it is to do a system restore to an earlier time. Normally when I have had this much trouble I just format and reinstall the whole shebang (I think that the right technical term lol) but sadly I bought a computer that has a promise SATA 300tx card so when I try to reinstall the OS I have to supply the correct driver for the card via the A: drive. I downloaded what I thought was the right driver for the card but when I try to use it it says there was an error with the driver and it crapped out press F3 and go away lol. So if someone knows what the error code 18 (I think that's the correct error number) and or where the right driver is for XP (the same driver worked OK with a WIN7 installation I have dual boot) Oh and Win7 won't runt he games either.

Thanks for your help and have a great day

About a few months ago I can still play games like Combat Arms, Call of Duty 4, BioShock, and Dead Space at minimal performance. But now, I reinstalled the game to play it again and it just got stuck on the Starting Screen or just plain BLACK Screen! I can still play some MMORPG like Sword of the New World: Granado Espada or the recently Closed-Beta, Luna Online just fine. I don't know what I did wrong with my Dell XPS Laptop. A:I can't play my games anymore!?

The only thing I noticed with Vista and games is sometimes a game will load and you get to a black menu screen for the game. I play Silent Hunter 4 and the first time I loaded the game in Vista I had not issues at all. Me being me messed up how to handle admin account and user account so I did a clean install to start over. Once done I loaded Silent Hunter 4 again to play. No issues, loaded fine. I clicked to play and I got the load screen. Once I got to the menu of the game it was nothing but a black screen. I could hear the music and see my mouse cursor but nothing else. So, what I had to do was go to my videocard tweak program ( I just use the one offered by Nvidia, it works fine) and reset my video card to all the default values. Should be just a box to check and apply to reset to defaults. Once done, I ran the game and all was fine. I closed the game out and reset my videocard back up to the tweaks I like. My game ran fine every since. Give it a shot, it worked for me.

Guys you won't believe it.

I reinstalled Vista yesterday because of this issue and also my games.
Yesterday everything worked.
Today I installed my applications and extra drivers and I started Racedriver GRID and it did the same thing.
So since its a new Vista install I checked what I installed today and removed the Windows Visual C and my Genius Fpen 610 driver.
Reboot and magically Grid and all my games started.

My Genius F610 Tablet driver for Vista was causing all the trouble!!!!
Can you believe that?

Thanks for everyones help!
Cheers

Hey guys I have AT&T "High-Speed" Internet DSL. I used to be able to host games and such when I was directly connected to the modem and nobody would lagg, and I would never lagg in games. Anyways, now I bought a linksys wrt54gl because I needed internet for myself and other people here at home. Well I tried the best I could, and I can join games (I play Borderlands and CS:Source and Team Fortress 2) but I can't host. When I host, my friends can't join, they used to be able to join me with no lagg... now they can't even join me.

I've tried port forwarding, disabling DMZ, removing the router firewall, tons of stuff. I can't get it to work, and I need to be able to host games again because I have the fastest internet.

Please help me out, I'm a newcomer and not too Tech Savvy but I'm not stupid either.

Thanks guys at Tech Support Guy Forums,
Andy

A:Can't host games anymore, help?!!

just for troubleshooting, put your computer in the DMZ (must have manual IP address). What the DMZ will do is route any traffic to that computer without any issues/port blocks etc.

Hello

After I ran registry mechanic and defragged my hard drive (perfect disk - thrice, although I stopped the defrag half way through), none of the latest games work anymore (Call of duty 4, Crysis demo, Bioshock), although older games like Heroes of might and magic 3 still runs fine. Whenever I click to start a game, the splash screen will start, the screen will go black like when one normally starts a game, and then I'm just back at the desktop, with no error message. All other software works fine, like Ableton Live 5 etc.

I should also say that before all of this I decided to clean up my hard drive and deleted some files mainly in C:\documents and settings\bernhard\local settings\temp. I did not delete any read-only files. Maybe this screwed it up?

It's strange because everything works fine except these games all of a sudden.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Why doesnt my steam or gamespy work anymore. It says that it cannot connect b/c my internet is unstable or i am connected through a over protected firewall, and it has been doing this for about a month now. I went to the steam website and did everything they told me to and it still doesnt work....what should i do?

A:None of my online games work anymore

well make sure your are not in fact blocked by a firewall or anything, unless your 100% sure. make sure your internet connection is set under the right setting appropriate for you under Settings>Internet tab for Steam.

about 3 days ago, i was just on the computer. I went on the internet, tried downloading adobe after affects, and played minecraft. after awhile i got bored so i turned off my computer. When i decided to go back on later, i couldnt play my only 2 computer games which are wizard101 and minecraft. Internet, videos and other programs work just fine. Its just wiz101 and minecraft.

When trying to open wizard 101 i get 3 errors (see attached file). After all those messages go away i can type in my username and password to start the game, but it just tells me i am unable to connect to wizard101.

For minecraft, i have 2 different minecrafts installed. One of the minecrafts let me enter my password and username and begin playing the game, but after that the minecraft window just goes black and stays like that. When trying to play the OTher minecraft i get this error -
Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile C:\Documents And Settings\Victoria\Desktop\Mineshafter-proxy.jar

ive tried uninstalling and then re-installing minecraft, thats all. It did not work though. I havent tried anything else yet. I have a windows Xp. If you need anymore info on my computer or need me to be more clear about some things, please let me know. Thank you.

I hope someone has an answer to my dilemma. I like to play games online, especially at Yahoo.com and Pogo.com, but since yesterday I haven't been able to play any of the games. The games don't load for me anymore.

I have disabled the firewall and the pop-up stopper to see if it would help, but it didn't. I don't know what else to do. I am sure I am missing some files, but don't have a clue to which ones are missing.

Any help is greatly appreciated....

By the way my computer has windows 98SE.

I've already asked this on two other forums, no one can give me a straight answer...here goes:

Whenever I play a game for more than 10 minutes, it locks up and I have to reboot my PC. Even after I reboot, it still occurs every single time. Also, if I want my games to run smooth, I have to run them as soon as I boot up the PC or else the frame rate goes to hell. I have all the latest drivers for my vid/sound card and XP. Defragged around 2 days ago.

The 2nd problem happened long before the first but I didn't think much of it...

I really have no clue what's wrong. Any ideas?

My specs:

AMD Athlon 2100+
512mb RAM
60gig HD
Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb
Sound Blaster Audigy
Windows XP

I have a gateway with a tsstcorp dvd =_ rw mlti format double layer drive and very suddenly I can no longer watch movies. Games play, cds play, audio fine. But I put in a movie and it's like there's no disc here. We've watched movies on it for over a year, so I checked multiple movies that once worked. I've followed the troubleshooting, tried to update driver. The wizard could find no better driver than what is already being used. I DO NOT get an error message. I just don't get anything to show up either under My Computer or in Media Center or Media player. Oh, and if it helps we have Windows XP Media Center Edition. This stumps me. I read somewhere "Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 (KB925398)" was a problem but I even went to add/remove programs and couldn't find that paticular update, so I couldn't uninstall that.
Thanks for any help.

At least 2 old games gothic 1 and gothic 2 ( raven ). Both played well on my winXP 64-bit. I reinstalled them both. Gothic 1 has no images in intro, and the sound is very spotty. Gothic 2 also has no intro images and even stopped in the middle of intro.

It is the same computer, except some more games. The computer is virtually not connected to internet except when I need a patch. What could be the reason?

one year old gaming computer
winXP pro 64-bit service pack 2
AMD phenom II X4 955
3.21 ghz 8 gig RAM
radeon HD 4870 X2 2gig video RAM
BTW, the DVDs come from " gothic universal " which includes 3 DVDs ( No1 is gothic 1, No2 is gothic 2 and No3 is gothic 3 ). No3 which is gothic 3 works fine so I have no reason to think that the other two DVDs do not work because they are dusty or scratched. Most other games played well including both old and recent games.

I decided to install the game Grid but the installer will not run because it says that its not compatible with the windows version im running.. But 5 months ago i installed it with no problems. That happened with some other games i installed.. i have the same windows version on my desktop and there i never had any problem instaling just on my laptop.. I have vista home premium 64bit.
I already tried to go to the setup and run it in compability mode but still doesnt work..
What should i do? How come i use to be able to instal and now im not?

A:vista wont install some games anymore..

I have had the ability to play older games. I speculate that after installing SP2 on the x64 you lose the ability to install/play older x86 games. I cant play my MechWarrior 4 anymore and it has me annoyed. I also assume at times...even though sounds stupid..that newer hardware is just too high end for older games that they cant be installed on them. I know its silly but possible. Just keep trying in compatibility mold all the way back to windows 2000/xp settings and try it out more. It might just work if it feels like it.

Hi, I have a computer with hardware capable of running almost all current titles, EG Bf3, Dota2, counter strike GO, that was until a few months ago.
I started experiencing serious ping issues / packet loss in games causing me to completely freeze, then re-appear where I would have been. On counter strike source "string_cmds" graph peaks when this occurs.
The problem has got worse now, though, I can't play more then 10 minutes of ANY game before something goes wrong, be it a game crash or my whole computer shuts down resulting in one of the many Blue screen Stop errors I have said.
The game will run perfectly smooth, then suddenly my whole computer will shut down. This can happen about 5 times a day depending on how willing I am to restart the game.
Google chrome has just started to crash frequently now, too, and with limited income being 16 I need to fix this rather buy a new pc.
I don't know whether this will be useful but the address for one of them ( I've had well over 100 by now) Is "at FFFFF8801047D000" and another.." STOP: 0x00000019"

A:Multiple BSODs - 3B, 7e, 10, 50, can't play games anymore

Welcome to SevenForums,

I have had a look at your last 3 DMP Files, 2 of them are referencing memory.

Can you try these steps for me

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+If there is no error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip
If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

I received this error after trying to play europa universalis 4, after updating with the latest windows 8.1 updates. Yesterday all games worked fine, today, none of them run at all.

I've been searching for a solution but all i can find is update your graphics card / DirectX / install the Dx in the game folder itself, all of which i did, but none of it worked.

I've tried pretty much everything i could find about this problem, anyone have any ideas? Only difference is i am running all of this off a laptop with an intergrated graphics card though, and for the next few months my laptop is all i have in terms of a pc. Graphics card is Intel HD graphics 4600, which worked just fine a day ago.

A:Failed to create graphics device. Can't run games anymore

Welcome to the forum!

You are certain you have only HD 4600 graphics and not also a discrete Nvidia graphics chip? Does device manager show only HD 4600 graphics adapter?

Would also help to know exact model like V3-772-xxxx.

I got back from christmas break, (hadn't used my computer for about 2 weeks) and my computer was running incredibly slowly on the internet ( i have cox high speed) and when I tried to uninstall and reinstall a few games, they wouldn't uninstall, and i couldn't use them. I think i installed a corrupted rollercoaster tycoon disc, and that messed up my computer.
I've run Norton internet security (05), ad aware, stinger, and tried my cox security, but norton keeps interfering with that. here is my log.

Welcome to TSF.

You're infected with a trojan...TWICE!.

There is a procedure for removing the duplicate infection in one go, but I can't remember. So, we are going to run the tool twice instead.
Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode. Or Save them to Wordpad so that you can access them in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
Go into Add/Remove and uninstall:

Viewpoint Media Player

Delete the folder:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as BIOS.
As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
Continue to do so until the 'Windows Advanced Options' menu appears.
Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the menu item - Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this

Any help would be great. Thank you

A:my system information seems to not be found anymore

Just read up on it and found this for you hope this helps you !This is the Toshiba SMART log service, which recognizes problems with your hard drive, and catches them, before they cause serious problems. To get it working again, you will need to go to control panel, double click on " administrative tools," double click " services, " scroll down, until you find " Toshiba SMART Log Service," double click and open. Under the " General " tab Start up type, put it to start automatically, under " Service Status, click " Start. Now, go to: Recovery Tab. Under " First Failure," set it to: " Restart the Service.".Also try this link : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756320.aspx This may also help you out !

I noticed that when I go to my System Restore I there aren't any restore point. When I go to System Protection under the Properties of the Computer there is an error (I've attached a screen shot). "There was an unexpected error in the properties page: System Restore encountered an error. Please try to run System Restore again. (0x81000203)
Please close the property page and try again."
I tried it after Windows restart and it's the same. I was doing a little optimization in the services. Maybe I have stopped accidentally something important, although I'm pretty sure that I haven't done anything wrong there. I was following a guide from another Win 7 forum.
I would appreciate your help

So one day the pc went real slow and the encoders to broadcast started to loose connection. After callin around to see if the problem was elsewhere i decided to do a factory set.after that i could not boot again , WIN10 was gone. Ok , order'd a USB recovery (witch was here faster then promised) and revovered it. All good u think , nope, pc start to show small issues like file explorer won't open anymore, Widows icon can't be clicked upon anymore, etc etc. so after 5 sessions with the HP technicians, ok , still nothing solved, even a reset to early version of WIN10 doesnt work anymore. So now i have to send up the pc and put the radio in a freezer??Because this pc is the main asset in our chain of hardware on the radiostation. I dont know if this all is a pc issue or win 10 but i'm not happy bout win 10 . I also did on my own a chkdsk , DSIM, and all other tests, they all come out as positive , so what could be going on here??

Hi so I have this external HDD, formated to FAT32, decided to backup some blu-rays today onto the drive only to be reminded by my computer that FAT32 only supports up to 4GB files. So I googled and came across this command "convert *driveletter*: /fs:NTFS". After running some scans, this command is suppose to turn my HDD with a FAT32 FS into a NTFS. So the process is complete, and everything seems to be fine, I look in the drive, its NTFS, all my files are still there, then I notice, my computer stopped outputting sound. I thought, hmm that's a weird glitch, probably be fixed if I restart. I restarted, only to get an a GRUB error 17? Googled this on my laptop, and a ton of Linux help sites came up, so my guess was that it had something to do with my express gate as I'm using an ASUS motherboard with express gate. So I booted back up, into the BIOs, and go to boot priority, and notice that the HDD with my windows partition is gone, not an option even. Although the HDD comes up saying it's connected with the proper name and everything. Oh and yes I did remove the external HDD in case you were wondering.

This is the weird problem I've EVER had with a computer.

If someone could give me some direction to go in getting my computer back up and running it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey people, new member here. Anyway.

I need to restore my computer to an earlier date, but when i tried to find the system restore, it was not there. First i went to start, all programs, accessories, and system tools. When i saw that it was not there, i entered the run command for it. When i did that, i got the same message you would get if you enter an invalid command. After that didn't work, i entered "msconfig" in the run box, and then once the system configuration utility appeared, i went to the tools tab and highlighted System Restore, and clicked Launch. But then a window popped up saying the following: "The system cannot find the file specified".

I am about 75-85% sure that the rstrui.exe file was deleted by one of the young ones fiddling around inside the system folders. What i do not know is how to get it back. I remember one time when the windows sound recorder executable file had gotten deleted, i just downloaded it from the internet, put it in the right spot and it was fixed. I can't seem to do that with the system restore executable file. Any ideas on how i can fix this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yesterday, while I was working, the network icon in the notification area suddenly disappeared. I went into "Taskbar and Start Menu properties" to re-enable it, but I found that the check was removed from "Network" and the checkbox has been disabled. So I can't do that anymore.

I wanted to try method three in this tutorial, but I found that I don't even have the "explorer" folder under "policies" in the registry!

Any ideas what's going on? I'm using Vista Home Premium

Appreciate your help

Hello,

I know just enough about computers to get myself in trouble. I had a 160GB Hard drive that was getting kind of crowded, it was my sole hard drive. I had XP on it and as I had no problems with it, I was content to stick with it. I bought a 500gb hard drive and as my fiancee had bought me an upgrade to Vista and then 7, I put Windows 7 on the new drive and left XP on the old. The old drive (the 160GB) already had C: taken so I named the new one G:.

So, everything was working fine and if I wanted to switch OS's I'd just reboot and choose the one I wanted. Sadly my C: drive just died. I was like ".. bummer. I'll pop it out and just worth the windows 7 one now." However on start up I'm getting a bad boot file message and to put the install/system disk in. I do that and choose the restore option but its not showing that I have any previous versions of windows on it! When I do the repair option it says it was fixing a partition error. I can see the windows files when I use the command prompt and still see that windows is there under the G: drive.

My question is; does windows now think my G: drive is supposed to be C ? Is that why it wont boot properly? I mean it seems to be looking for windows to be under the C drive but its actually under G, if that makes sense. If so I found an article on how to change the drive letters via regedit at the command prompt. Or do you think my hard drive is just hosed and that I need to reformat?

Thanks for looking and any help ... Read more

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... This is the 2nd of two systems used almost exclusively by the kids for games. NIS subscription expired back in August. I ran Spybot which found 483 problems and AdawareSE which found 815. Neither could clean all the problems found. The OS is WinME and it crashed while my first attempt at AdawareSE was deleting files. I've run it again and this is the result of a subsequent HJT log. If I could someone to take a look at it it would be appreciated. Thanks

A:another games system need HJT

Go to Add/Remove peograms and uninstall New.Net (NewDotNet). If it will not uninstall do this:

First Click here to download LspFix

You may not need it, but go ahead and download it just in case.
Now go here and scroll to the bottom of the page to Precedure 4 and download and run the New.Net uninstaller.

If you lose your internet connection after running the New.Net uninstaller, Run LspFix, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. (Don't do anything else)

Then click Finish.

That should restore the internet connection.

Also look for WinTools Easy Installer or anything with WinTools in Add/Remove and uninstall it.

Restart your computer and post another log.

hey all, just wanted to say what an amazing support forum this is for vista, just a good read over the tutorials section managed to fix/correct everything i wanted.needed after installing vista

anyways, found a nice little website to see if you can play a specific game on your system. i know you can check the game website for minimum requirements and all but for the lazy ones like me, just in couple of clicks you can see if your computer is good for the game. another thing that was handy to me was that it shows the minimum requirements of a game and you system specs on a bar from worst to best, gives me an idea if i can push the in-game settings to maximum or not ie. graphics =)

Oddly enough i was about to post a similar thread along the same lines myself when i saw yours!

My wretched PC has also done a total shutdown shortly after a game is started - only twice so far, but clearly there is something wrong. There have been other Game related issues with and i had to do a Format just a week ago It isn't overheating and has a 550W PSU, which is kinda pointing me to the CPU maybe? It's also an ASUS mobo witha 3Ghz P4 on it and 1Gb of RAM.

What PSU is in yours?

I'm not trying to hijack your post but the thread is so similar i just thought i'd join in, but happy to post separately if you wish..

So i'd like an opinion as well to this if anyone has one...

Hey everybody, hope you're all having a wonderful holiday break. I come here today to ask a little of your generosity in helping my issue. For the past few days whenever I play a game it would suddenly crash, without notice, around five minutes into a game. It doesn't matter what game it is or how taxing I make the game to my system, the computer will always crash. It started happening after I restored my computer to factory default settings. I've thought it was an overheating issue at first but I doubt it; it also starts to crash whenever I try to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. So if anyone can help me out with this it would be extremely appreciated. Thanks and merry Christmas!

My Windows 7 64-bit PC crashes during fullscreen 3d games, with the screen freezing, the audio looping and the cpu and disk transfer rates up by a significant amount. Mostly though, the disk usage.

The freezes are 30 seconds to 3-4 minutes in length after which the system resumes as normal.

They will normally repeat at intervals which are seemingly random.

During the freeze I cannot alt-tab or control-alt-delete into a menu. If I issue a control-alt-delete command during the freeze the relevant screen will appear after the freeze although I am certain it is not prepared during the freeze.

I have tried testing the system using Prime95, all clear.

I have tested it with chkdisk, all clear.

I have the latest DirectX and drivers installed.

I have the latest windows updates installed.

I have installed CoreTemp and MSI Afterburner to ensure CPU and GPU temps are OK, neither ever exceed 50C.

I have experienced no error messages.

I really do appreciate your help and support and if this problem is fixed I'll donate 20 to the site! Thankyou!

This is a post I made in the Gaming Forum. I was told to move it to this forum for better support.

Hi! I'm new to the website and this is my first post, so please bear with me. I built my own rig and have no other problems with it besides this.

Problem:

Sometimes when playing video games such as Battlefield 4 beta and Alan Wake, my monitor turns black and the audio stutters, then stops. The computer is still on, but needs to be restarted before I can use it again. This occurs once every 5-20 minutes, usually on 3-D rendered, full-screen games. I monitor my GPU and CPU's temperature; while the GPU occasionally runs up to 70 Celsius, the crashes may occur at any temperature.

Specs:

Windows 7 Professional 64bit (6.1.7601 Service Pack 1, fully updated)

So here's the deal.

I've basically rebuilt my entire gaming machine and I'm still having system lockups with games under windows vista. Here's what I've done so far:

1.Replaced MB with a different make/model went from socket 939 ASRock Dual Sata II-->Bioforce sckt 939 MB.

2.Replaced 430 watt ThermalTake PS with a 650 watt Antec True Power.

3.Exchanged EVGA 8800GTS 320mb (the installation of which seemed to cause the initial problem) for a Radeon 1950 Pro. The 1950Pro worked fine (though a bit choppy) but I wanted DX10 so I returned that and got a Saphire 2900pro 512mb and the freezeups returned.

The following parts I retained a still use (they carried over from the previous system)
Processor AMD 4400+
2gigs (4x512) Corsair RAM
2x Western Digital 120GB HDDs (IDE)

the RAM passed both the windows memory diagnostic and memtest86
the hard drives have not been tested yet, but I've had no issues with other programs (DVD/CD playback, burning, Open office, etc.)

I really am at a loss, the issues all seemed to start when I installed the 8800GTS and the driver package that Bioshock recommended. The Nvidia drivers have been uninstalled with nvidia's uninstall program and Driver Cleaner.

What do you think? Reinstall Vista from scratch? I really want this machine up and running when Crysis comes out, not to mention playing Bioshock all the way through with DX10 support. I could reinstall XP but that is an absolute LAST RESORT because I bought a DX10 card and I... Read more

A:System is slowing down after playing games

Is it slowing down during gaming or after you exit a game?

If it's happening for all your games when you are playing, it maybe a heat related problem- CPU overheating and throttling down. Check if all the fans are running, case/CPU/GPu temps etc.

If the latter, then possibly a case of the application (game) not releasing resources-RAM/CPU it was using? A reboot would fix that as is happening in your case I'd think.

Hello everyone,

[tl;dr]DX9 games consistently crash and cause a system freeze an indeterminate amount of time after loading. (Average 3 minutes) This issue even occurs during clean boots. Furmark, ɣ-cruncher, AIDA64 stress tests all last 12 hours without issue. Memtest and disk error check pass with no issues. DX10 games (eg. LotRO) play without encountering the issue.

System specifications:
Windows 7 Ultimate N x64 (Original OS, MSDN Retail Version)
Hardware is as old as Windows 7 (Approximately 2.5 years)
OS age detailed below (07/26/2011 for brevity)

eVGA X58 3x Classified (E760)
Intel Core i7 Extreme 975
eVGA GeForce GTX 295 (Single)
Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1866C9D x6 (12.28 GiB total)
NZXT Precise 1000W; Corsair HX1000W
Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
NZXT Sentry
ASUS U3S6 USB3 PCI Expansion Card
Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle

After dealing with this issue for an unknown amount of time, I decided to start with a fresh install of Windows and proceed from there. I initially assumed the issue was due to the system configuration, so I continued by customizing Windows and running Windows Updates, installing drivers, and installing any necessary programs and games. After the installations completed, I decided to run stress tests. Furmark ran at max settings for 12 hours with no issues (no artifacts, no graphical issues, no overheating). AIDA64 ran for 12 hours with no issues. ɣ-Cruncher ran for 8 hours using 7 GiB of RAM with no issues. Memtest comp... Read more

I have recently built this system from some new parts I ordered and some existing parts. I freshly formated, installed XP, updated XP, installed latest 4-in-1's, Latest Vid Drivers (56.72WHQL), latest RAID driver (Though I am not using RAID), latest soundmax driver, and so on...

I installed DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot), patched the game, and fired it up. Within 30 seconds I got 0x50 BSoD. I rebooted and tried again, this time I simply got crash to desktop, and it was after maybe 10 minutes. So I started turning things off: Fast Writes-Off, memory timings reduced (2.5-3-3-6), No Overclocking (Always been this way), etc. Went to run DXDiag, and got a BSoD 0x8e (0xc5,...,...,0) Which flags a driver as the issue. Reboot, and re-run DXDiag it states that a problem occured initializing directshow and offered to skip this, so I took the offer. Ran all tests for video, all passed. Still can't play games... Any ideas?

Here is what I have ruled out:
Faulty RAM - Ran Memtest86+ w/ no errors, used a physical ram tester w/no errors, and ran Prime95 for several hours w/ no errors.
Faulty Video Card - Replaced with exact same card, still occurs.
Faulty OS install - I have reinstalled.
Out-of-Date Drivers or OS - All the latest installed.
Fast Writes - Turned off
Mem Timings too strict - Turned down (They auto set this low CL2.5-3-3-6, but can prolly run as tight as CL2-2-2-2)
Heat - System runs cool, 39C average,

In cod its fine until i shoot.
I have been to lans and tried my card out in other peoples comps and it was fine so I am thinking something happened to my comp while i was reformatting.

ANTEC 400W PSU
MSI 645DX MB SiS Chipset

AMIBIOS ver. 3.1

OK, I have updated my PC to service pack 1, I have updated the SiS agp drivers, and I also used 2 different video cards (Radeon 9700 Pro, GeFroce Ti 200) to test this.
I downloaded the latest Radeon drivers and NVIDIA drivers, but my pc still reboots when graphics are being loaded before gameplay. The system is very stable otherwise. The pc is not being overclocked at all and the BOIS is run at fail-safe mode.
Quake 3 crashes everytime it loads, Battlefield 1942 crashes during map loading and so on. I took everything out of my pc except the vid card, and it still occurs.
Anybody have any ideas, please post or email me. Thanks a lot. Oh yea, one more thing ...whne windows is loading, it seems to delay after choosing what OS you want to run. Any ideas ?

Hi Saleh,

Welcome to the forums :D

Ok, now as for your problem, its most likely a conflict between both of your Video Cards, specifficly doing with their IRQ's.........They could also be using the same IRQ's, and they need to be changed.

My son and I just built a new system: ATX case with 250W power supply, Abit KT7 w/Raid mobo, 900 MHz Thunderbird chip, 128MB RAM, AGP video card (tried ATI Rage Fury Maxx and Voodo 4500), SoundBlaster 128PCI sound card, CD-ROM, CD-RW, internal modem, running Win 98SE. System works fine except when trying to play two games (both by same co.) - can play games, burn CD's, etc. However, when trying to install a game by Nova Logic system crashes/locks up (requiring a hard reboot) during installation. Another game by the same company, installs ok but then crashes during play (sometimes can play for 10 min. sometimes 30 minutes). Had a problem installing the ATI RAge Fury Maxx, but finally got it working only to find the problem with games (using that video card, another game MS Flight Simulator caused the system to crash). Thinking it was the video card, refomarted hard drive and installed Voodo 4500. Now can play Flight Simulator ok but still can't install the one game and system crashes while playing the other one. All drivers are up to date. Tried both games on an Epox/Athlon 750 and they work just fine. Also tried the one game that installs ok on a system that is nearly identical to the one we built (same mobo, chip, but a different video card and more RAM - 384)and while the game installed ok it caused that system to lock up while loading. Called game company but they were unable to resolve the problem. What could be causing this problem? Please help. Thanks.

A:System crashes when playing games

My guess would be that the video card is the problem. You need to put the card onto a diffrent computer and test it with the games that have crashed the other computers.

Hi:

I am trying to solve a problem that my son is having while playing games on the computer. We have a Windows XP Pro, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard, AMD Athlon XP2500+, 512 MB Corsair Twin-X 3200LL Dual Channel Memory,
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB AGP Video Card. For the past several months, whenever my son plays a video game with a CD in the CD drive, the power shuts off at a random time in the game (from one to 5 minutes after starting the game). This does not happen with any other programs but only games requiring a CD (eg t does not happen on games played over the Internet with no disc required, nor does it happen when in Word or email).

I have run all of our virus software with no luck (Norton, spybot). I have also tried downloading an up to date version of DirextX and our video driver. Still no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay so I'm running Windows XP with a Radeon 9600 series graphics card and my drivers are all up to date. But it seems every time I try and play WoW or NWN2, I get into the game then my screen will go black and return with fuzzy resolution or my system will reboot. Frankly, I'm getting annoyed because I enjoy my games and get upset when I can't play them. The same thing also happened when I played the Original NWN. Any help in fixing my problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have this problem with my PC. My system will crash after about 3 mins. of playing games. The monitor will just display a white screen. When I reboot, the monitor will just display green and red lines. And when I try to reboot again, the system will not respond. I need to unplug the power cable just to turn it off.

I already tried the following solutions but to no avail:

- reformat my PC
- used windows 98 2nd ed as OS
- changed my power supply unit from 300W to 350W
- replaced my videocard with the same model (under warranty)
- updated by video card driver to the latest driver
- updated the AGP driver
- open the casing while playing games.
- check if my memory is ok using memtest program

Here are the specs of my PC:

-P4 2.66 Ghz
-ECS L4SA8 MOBO SiS678 AGP 8X
-512 MB PC333 DDR (1 stick)
-40 GB Seagate HD 7200
-Inno3D FX 5600 Ultra 128Mb
-350W PSU
-WinXP Professional

Can someone help me with this problem... Thanks..

A:System will crash when playing games

Let's first see if theirs any hardcore errors in event viewer. In order to get into event viewer click on start, control panel, admin tools, event viewer. Take a look into applications and sytem and see if their are any errors around the same time as the game crashed. This may give you a lead as to what failed when the game crashed.

Also does this happen on just one game or is it all games? It could just be a simple game patch

If you need more assistance just post back!

1 gig corsair 3200 ram
commandos is the only game that ive insstalled thats not 3d intensive and it runs fine....

however doom 3, and world of warcraft (the entire point of the system) crash within 2 minutes every time.

Its not the heat on the processor, ive got the alarm set to 50c, and everything is now set at stock and ran prime 95 for 10 hours at 40 C.

i ran memtest for a few cycles and it ran sucessfully

i put a brand new 500W power supply in
ive updated all the drivers from the bios, to the nforce, to direct x
everything runs flawlessly, except video it seems

3dmark crashes, so im almost positive its the video card
the cards fan is still running and rather strong as i have it open when i test...

Hello, I recently built my first system(specs at bottom). Everything works exellent until I play games like battlefield vietnam. After playing for about 10-20 mins the system will either completely restart or just shut down back to windows. My system temps are quite stable so i dont think its a heat problem(I have 7 case fans). Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. It might be useful to check what background processes you have running, and that you have a sufficient amount of Ram and that your hard drive is not very fragmented.

I am aware that this might not have anything to do with linux but it is the only reason I can think of for my computer to do this.

I have a pentium 4 2.0ghz 256mb RAM

Geforce2 MX 400

bla bla bla...

Anyhow I installed mandrake 9.2 not too long ago and it has been working fine together with WINXP for abou a month and a half.

However afew days ago I was playing MOHAA (Medal of honour allied assault) and it froze about 20 mins onto the game on WINXP.

Ever since then it has been freezing during the boot process, also sometimes if it actually makes it past the boot process and logs into windows it sometimes freezes there, and if it actually gets past that, it freezes as soon as I run the game, or any game for that matter. However it doesnt only freeze on games, I was reading an acrobat reader doc and it froze. I tseems to me like anything which uses alittle bit of memory from the vid card freezes.
Tried Changing the bios to optimal performance, nope dont help, I've been using this computer with the same hardware for over a year and have had no problems with it yet so I doubt it is the fan or any other peice of hardware in the PC.

Maybe a video card problem????
Would the vid card affect how the system boots?
Anyhow...

I hope somone can help me ASAP. If you need more specific info just ask.

So yesterday I accidentally set all .exe files to open in Notepad (I know, very stupid). I did a system restore, and it fixed that. But it also screwed up some of my games graphics. After restoring, everything seemed fine until I started Age of Empires 1 for a celebratory match. But when I got to the main menu, the graphics were totally distorted. Pixelated and yellowish with rainbow colors everywhere. Now this happened with the game when I first bought it (same goes for all other games I will mention in this post) but I fixed the graphics fine. This seems to be a totally unrelated problem, that came from the system restore. I then tried AOE 2, and both 1 and 2's expansions, all the same. Then I opened diablo 1, same. It's so incredibly frustrating when these games, which I just barely got to not have weird graphics, are suddenly ruined again by some totally unknown and unfixable problem. I know it has nothing to do with the games themselves or with compatibility because I have tried every fix that people said worked. I've alt tabbed out then went back in, Ive started the game then alt tabbed out and killed explorer.exe then went back in, I've made a bat file that does that automatically, for all these games. How can a system restore suddenly make old games graphics look so bad? Please someone help, these are some of my favorite games.

I am getting a reproducible system crash.

When it occurs, it is always getting into or getting out of a game, while the game is running. The three games that this has happened on are Worms Armageddon, America?s Army, and the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo.

It always seems to occur when

1. I am minimizing the game, in the game, and trying to come back to Windows.
2. I am trying to get back into the game after I do #1 (while the game is still running).
*I am not sure 1 and 2 happen 100% of the time, but very, very often.
3. When I am exiting the game and coming back to Windows.
*3 does not happen every time.

It always occurs during the transition, (when the screen is flipping to the game or to Windows)

Example:
I can do the following and it will crash every time.
1. Start America?s Army
2. At the main menu I will then press the Windows-icon button on the keyboard. This brings me back to Windows.
3. Then I click on the Americas Army tab in the taskbar.
4. The screen goes black, like its getting into the game, but then immediately it crashes and restarts.

After it reboots, Windows gives me the critical error message and says that ?A device driver may have caused this problem?.

This happened before I updated the graphics driver and after I downloaded the latest driver.

Hi,

This is my new build (some months old) and during that time I changed my multiple components due to BSOD. Recently I changed my motherboard which had issues and now system is stable from usage point-of-view as its not giving any BSOD.

Now since my bad motherboard (which I replaced with new one) I am facing system freeze issue during game-play after sometime. Previously I thought its due to my crappy motherboard but now yesterday after using my new board for some days when first time I started playing Crysis with everything maximum at 1080p around after 40 mins same freeze happened which I was facing earlier.

I can hear game sound but the screen-stuck and there is no artifact on screen (image is proper). If I press ctrl+alt+del and system became responsive although game was killed/crashed.

Yesterday I ran Furmark's Burn-In test for more than 1.5 hours and manually increased the FAN speed to 50% as without it the CPU temperature was touching 100C+ and Furmark was hanging in 7 minutes. The maximum temperature it was touching with 50% FAN speed was 71C.

Then again I ran Crysis after this Furmark and FAN speed adjustment and with-in an hour Crysis hanged and pressing ctrl+alt+del recovered my system and game crashed.

Can someone help me to identify issue or explaining the reason for this ? I have latest ATI driver and no GPU overclocking.

Thanks in advance

I'm new here so I will try to be as descriptive as possible.

About a month ago my computer ran smoothly and most of the 3D games worked relatively well, or say, at least adequatelly. The games I played are Call of Duty 2, SD Gundam Online, Metal Rage Online.
After approximately 3 weeks of playing these game, things started to get weird. First after playing the game for around 15~30 minutes, a "sudden lag" occur (which greatly reduces the fps) and the lag does not only affect the game but also affect the whole computer (every operation becomes laggy). Such lag usually last around 1~3 minutes and everything become normal again.
Starting from yesterday the "sudden lag" will occur almost everytime when I played the games, especially after launching the game for 5~10 minutes. The lag will stay for around 2~3 minutes even if I terminate the gaming program.
I have updated all my drivers, configurate the graphic card to performance based, and increase the virtual memory. But the same thing still occur over and over again.
Please let me know what I can do to fix such problem.

Here is dxdiag report: (the whole thing is VERY long so I only post part of it)

A:Sudden system lag when playing games

Possibly a performance issue. I know it seems unlikely based on your specs but Windows being Windows...

Try:

Run
msconfig
Start Up Tab
Disable non-essential programs

Then do virus, Ccleaner (or equivalent) defrag, spyware etc

Assuming that this doesn't happen if you don't play the games?

Repost if this doesn't fix.

Hey guys,

Basically my current PC runs the only game I play, World of Warcraft, poorly. I have a poor framerate even with the settings on low and with the graphic enhancement in the new exansion I'm guessing it'll get worse. I also have a dream of maybe trying some titles a little more ambitious like MW2 and SW:ToR.

Anyway I've managed to save myself 600, or $900 for my friends across the pond and I was wondering if that sounds enough to build a system that will run WoW on max settings without a hiccup but at the same time leaving room to allow the system to be updated with even better hardware as more money becomes available through my new job.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could advise me on a system for 600 or less I could buy to match my criteria or even better point me in the direction of an even cheaper system that would play WoW flawlessly for the time being.

I don't know if this info will help (cos I'm a PC newb) but I already have a "22 widescreen monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, hello!

I don't know if I'm posting this on the right section, but this problem of mine somewhat doesn't fit on all the other sections, so I figured I should put it here.

Recently I was playing Neverwinter, and all of sudden the game froze, even though the sound effects (and apparently windows media player) were still running (WMP stopped after the end of the current music). I could not ctrl+alt+del, nor alt+F4 whatsoever, so I decided to restart my machine manually.

As I went to search the event viewer, I couldn't find anything related to this freezing, since there was no event registered at its time. What I did find, and more than once (awkwardly at every windows startup), was an error related to a service called Sentinel64.
Its description is as follows:

Service Control Manager [7000] - The Sentinel64 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the device specified.

I opened cmd, and typed the following command:

sc query Sentinel64

As a result, I got the following:

SERVICE_NAME: Sentinel64
TYPE : 1   KERNEL_DRIVER
STATE :  1    STOPPED
WIN32_EXIT_CODE :   20   (0x14)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE :  0 (0x0)

Apparently, the WIN32_EXIT_CODE 20 means, according to microsoft technet:

"ERROR_BAD_UNIT
The system cannot find the device specified.

I have no idea if this service flaw is rela... Read more

I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 2.4ghz processor with a 200 GB hard drive and 2 Gigs DDR2 Ram and a Nvidia 6800gt 128 MB graphics card.

I have loaded several games including GTA Vice City, Star Wars Empire at War, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum, Command & Conquer Generals and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Sometimes they play just fine for a while before they crash or lock up my entire system, but most of the time they crash immediately. I know that I am running plenty of power for them to operate correctly, but why won't they? Any help to correct this stupid problem would be appreciated.

Hi, I recently upgraded from a R9 270x to a GTX 970 and it seems the GPU causes the system to crash once im playing a game for 5 minutes. I have tried uninstalling all of the drivers from AMD and NVIDIA using DDU and then installed the driver CD as well. The temperatures of the GPU estimate about 70 degrees under load so im sure its not related to cooling problems. This is quite an annoyance since I payed quite alot of money for something I cant use!

Thank you.

Hi y'all,
I've recently built a new gaming PC using an Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E6300 in a RAID 0 config and Windows Xp OS. The problem I'm having is that I am unable to uninstall, delete or move certain games when I want to. I get a "cannot remove/replace/move ???? software: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use." message. Has anyone else experienced this or know why it may be happening. Does it have something to do with the way a duel processor writes information in a RAID configuration? There are no chipset patches on the Intel site that address this. Any suggestions would be appreciated

A:Uninstalling games on Duel Core system

make sure you not using the program before uninstalling. some time even if you turn the game off. it still might have a process running. check your processes. are you the administrator. when you turn the pc on?
what games are you trying to remove? how are you trying to remove them?

I've been having issues with my system for quite a while now and can't seem to pinpoint the issue. Basically, my system will randomly lock up when either playing games or playing videos (in Media Player or Media Player Classic, Youtube and other FLV players online don't lock up.) Additionally, if I try to restart by choosing Start -> Turn Off Computer -> Restart, or by clicking the Restart button in dialogs, the system usually will shut down Windows, then go black and not start back up until I power it off and back on. It typically boots back up fine after shutting down fully.

Sometimes after a lockup I will also be forced to reset the BIOS via the reset jumper on my mobo to get the system to boot up again.

A month or two ago I had one of these lockups occur and then Windows wouldn't boot, and I had to reinstall it (I think the registry was corrupt.) Thing is, XP Pro setup was locking up until I removed my SATA controller card.

My system specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro SP3
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
2x Corsair 512MB 400MHz RAM
PC Chips M848A mobo (this is my third mobo on this PC, the first two died)
Antec TPII-480 Blue power supply (I've gone through 2-3 PSUs)
80 GB IDE HD (previously not in the system, now Windows drive)
250 GB IDE HD (previously my Windows drive, now slave drive)
Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro with latest drivers from Sapphire (have also used a Radeon AIW 9800 Pro and still had the same issues)
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS (currently not in ... Read more

A:System Locking Up During Games/Videos, Can't Restart

The power supply you have the Antec TPII-480 Blue power supply is IMHO a pathetic excuse for a power supply. However, you mentioned you went through a couple others, what were they and list brand names and wattage?

Check the Bios and see what the temps and voltages are and report them back here.

Alright, so I've recently updated my system to Windows 7 and in the beginning things were good. Recently (a little more than a week ago) My system started to crash without fail while in game. As an owner of a gaming computer, the thing has turned pretty useless to me. haha

Alright, so I will describe the conditions. While in game (any where between 5 minutes and an hour) the computer will go silent and then reboot. I've explored a number of solutions, ranging from updating my Direct X and video drivers, to running a system repair through the windows install disk and a memory diagnosis. I've searched my harddrives for errors and I have been resisting a full OS reinstall, but I will run one if their is no real solution. any information would be wonderful. My Windows install is up to date and before the upgrade to windows 7 I've had no issues.

I've attached my Dxdiag to this post.

Any insight to this issue would be amazing.

I have a dual P4 2.4 Ghz that I bought a couple of months ago. When I load 3d type games, it has been crashing.. either when I load a saved game in games like Oblivion or after playing for a few minutes. Then I get the message "Windows has recovered from a serious error" after it reboots. Probe says my CPU is at 40 deg celsius and MB is at 41 degrees. As far as I know, this isn't too hot.

I looked in Event viewer and the last error says-

Source: System Error
Category: 102
Event ID: 1003

Error code 100000d1, parameter1 f6be22ce, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000008, parameter4 f6be22ce.

Would this have to do with a memory problem or video card maybe? The video card is a NVIDIA
GeForce 7600 GT (PCI express). Motherboard is Asus P5N-E SLI with 1GB DDR2 DIMM in A1 slot.

Any ideas what I can do to find out what's causing the crashes?

A:System Reboots When Loading Saved Games

I'm having a similar problem myself. Here'r my particulars;

Recently, as I was opening files downloaded from Rapidshare, my computer rebooted on it's own. Since then it reboots at will continously. Every 5 minutes or so.

Of course I'll get an notice from M$ about how the system shut down improperly and did I want to send a report which I did. Their reply was that it was a device driver improperly installed.

Then I received this message:

BCCode: 10000071 BCP1: 00000008 BCP2:80042000 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4: 00000000 Osver: 5_1_5 SP: 2_0

Question, does anyone have a clue as to what this means or how to fix the problem?

I also ran a trojan remover program which came up with this:

"The following file was called by the Windows Registry at boot time:

D:\INSTALL\GMSIPCI.SYS

An executable file with this name *has not* been found (it may be hidden).

The following program is called from the following Registry Key:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GMSIPCI

Does that help anything ?

Sorry if this is a real newb questions but I can't seem to find an answer. If I look at the back of the box of Supreme Commander for example it recommends that you use a 3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better to run it.

If I'm running a 2.4 Duo Extreme Processor, what does that mean to me? I can't seem to find a game where it lists the minimum requirement for a duo processor. Only Intel P4's. I realize the Duo Extreme's are faster but how do I make the comparison?

Video Games Get Updated Rating System
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 4:04 p.m. ET

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Four new categories designed to specify different types of violence have been added to video game ratings.

Effective immediately:

"<b>cartoon violence</b>'' will be defined as when "a character is unharmed after the action has been inflicted.''

"</b>Fantasy violence</b>'' is when the actions involve "characters in situations easily distinguishable from real life.''

An "<b>intense violence'</b>' label will be applied to ``graphic and realistic-looking depictions of physical conflict'' that may involve ``blood, gore, weapons and depictions of human injury and death.''

A fourth designator, "<b>sexual violence</b>,'' is defined as "depictions of rape or other violent sexual acts.''

<b>Starting Sept. 15, content warning labels will be more prominently displayed on the front label of video game titles</b>.

Last year, 63 percent of games rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board received an E (for everyone) classification, 27 percent were T (for teenagers), 8 percent were M (for mature audiences only) and 2 percent came in EC (for early childhood).

The new guidelines were announced Thursday by the rating board.

Yay! Nice to see people are starting to pay more attention to game ratings, instead of just railing on the games themselves for being violent.
