Project 2000 problem

Q: Project 2000 problem

I recently installed Project 2000 on a laptop running Win98 2nd ed. The rest of the MS Office suite is also installed on this machine. When Project is run the user is able to open and work on projects and save them but when shutting the program down he gets an error message that WINPROJ has performed an illegal operation...specifically an "invalid page fault in module MSVBM60.DLL"

I'd appreciate any input on how to resolve this issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program to no avail. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I've got a mpp file from MS project 4, but project 2000 can't read it unless I convert the file to the mpx format. I don't have a version of Project 4 with me to do the conversion. How else can I read it?

I don't quite know which forum to post in so I'll start here.

Has anyone ever have trouble signing a VBA project on Access 2000?
(I'm using Office 2000 premium.)

I've done the following:
1) installed digital signature in Office Tools
2) generated my certificate using Selfcert
3) oened my Access DB and went into the VB editor
4) opened the Tools> menu

Result: No "Digital Signature" selection was available. in the Tools menu

Looked in VB editors in Excel and Word…
"Digital Signature" *was* right there in the "Tools" menu.
Just not in Access.

In Access, went to:
View >Toolbars>Customize…>Commands>Tools
and whaddaya know… There's "Digital Signature" right there!

BUT guess what? I can't drag in onto any tool bar or open menu.

Does anyone know what's going on or has this happened to them?
I looked in Office/Access Q&A forum on the MSDN website and actually found similar posts but the only suggestions were to try the things I've already listed above.

I searched the MS knowledge base but found no pertinent answers. The Office on-line help gives little/no help for digital signatures.

Ideas? Answers?

When installing Project 2000 on my machine, I keep getting the same illegal operation. IE5WZD cause an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 0000:6a6e2e65. I am currently running Win 95 and I am using Netscape 4.x for mail and internet. Is Project conflicting with Netscape??? Help!

Does the error message say what module it is?
A few of the messages on MS Knowledge base about IE5WZD point to the Java Virtual Machine (msjava.dll). Nothing in there about Project 2000 or Netscape though.

After splitting a task in Project, is it possible to set a relationship with one part of the split task or must you link the entire task?

A:MS Project 2000 question

What do you mean by "splitting a task?" Do you mean breaking it into subtasks? If so, yes, you can (and should, generally) set up you dependencies (I think that's what you mean by "relationships") to the subtasks. You can still set up dependencies between parent tasks, but generally it just confuses the issue and can lead to circular dependency relationships.

A while back I fixed his problem by changing the file from *.mpp to *.mpd then back to *.mpp again. This reduced the file size and stayed realistic.

The problem has started again with about 5 or 6 other Project files, all around the 7MB size but have very little in them. I have tried the above procedure to no avail.

Can you advise please,

Thanks in advance,

Hey people!

I've got a curly issue that I need some external input with! Any ideas would be great and very much appreciated!

Has only just started happening (the last 2 weeks or so) where if OL2003 is open, PROJ2000 will appear (the window and splash) but then disappear just as quickly. HOWEVER, if PROJ is opened first, then OL, PROJ remains open and works fine. There is no issue with any other Office application.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 x 2
Uninstalled and reinstalled Project 2000 x 2
Uninstalled EmailXtender (mail archiving addin for OL) - uninstalled this as it starts caching when OL is open.

Hardware Type: Notebook
PC Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
PC Model: TECRA M5
RAM: 1024 MB
CPU Speed: 1662 MHz
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack: Service Pack 2
SOE Version: RIS 1.3.4

Rebuild the laptop - old SOE image.

It's just bizarre that Project runs fine when opened first, but not after Outlook has been opened. Has anyone heard of this issue before? Or come across it? Any ideas? Anything else to try??

Thanks people!

Several of our users have been upgraded from Compaq to Dell Optiplex GX110s. On the Compaqs, they were using MS Project 2000. The application was loaded on the Dells and we are experiencing the following issues when trying to open files in Project:

1. On some of the Dells, opening the file results in a Fatal Exception (blue screen of death).
2. On some of the Dells, opening the file results in a error message indicating the file may have been created in a version not recognized by 2000.

I repeat (smile), these file were usable on the Compaqs using Office 2000. What would make the Dells behave so poorly?

MS Project Server files are saved in Project 2007 format .mpp and then re-opened in MS Project 2010. When the file is opened in MS Project 2010 the progream switches to compatibility mode but there are no tasks or project details - it is a blank schedule. I can open the same file in MS Project 2007 at home, but cannot open it at work on my laptop in MS Project 2010 (opens but is blank).

Any ideas what the issue might be? Belwo are my laptop details.

First of all i need to provide you with some background information. what i am trying to do is, build a computer from scratch, using only secondhand trashed parts. in my town we have a recyceling site where people and companies trow away old computer systems and stuff. so me and a friend once a week go out and collect what we can.i finally collected enough parts that fit together. my problem is that when i put it all together, and install windows vista (i dont think the hardware supports windows 7, i might be wrong...) it worked some times (about half of the times i booted up it got through, i also had to try avout 10 time before i got the os installed corectly).i then proceded to install some motherboard and GPU drivers, i then restarted.

Hi folks,

I'm using MS Project 2003, and I'm having a couple of difficulties with the relationship between the calendar view and the gantt chart:

The calendar is placing some tasks on non-working days;

MS Project 2003 seems to not have a facility for assigning recurring tasks to "business days only". This causes me to have to set a recurring task as close to the day in the month I think the task will fall each month and then go into each month and manually move the task to the 13th business day (or whatever is the actual requirement). It is so common for recurring deadlines to be on business days rather than calendar days, I am surprised that Project's "recurring tasks" dialogue box has only a "x day" of the month (rather than x business day of the month" option. Can one set recurring tasks in Project on the basis of business days?;

When I set up my project in MS Project, I specified working days to run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., however, when I view the project report it sees working days as running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. This suggests to me that, somehow, the gantt chart and task list are not wedded firmly to the calendar view. Can someone help?;

MS Project is displaying some distinct tasks as separate tasks along the same Gantt Chart bar. For example, tasks, x, y, and z occur on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every month, and they are displayed in the Gantt Chart on the same line of the same month running in direct s... Read more

Trying to install Project 2000. Don’t have enough room on the C drive so want to put it on the D Drive. Install program insists on putting it in the C Drive, but says there’s not enough room. In the destination directory, it says the directory in D I want it, yet it still says not enough space on the highlighted drive. (C) This can’t all be stuff going into the Windows system directory can it? I’ve still got over 130 meg on the C drive.

Have Project 98 on the C but can’t remove it because it insists on having the install disk in order to remove it. My 98 disk is in a storage shed because of some major remodeling we’re doing so can’t even free that space off the C drive. Suggestions?

If you want to remove Project 98 from your C drive - right click the folder and change the file name then try to delete it. This has worked for me in the past but your registry will still retain the Project 98 info which could cause some problems.

I have to create programmes for large scale civil engineering projects. This is not a problem However, we find more and more clients require a cost breakdown. Costing is carried out by a different person, but from this I can get a TOTAL cost for excavation, fill, etc- all the actual costs for an item.
The question is, can I use this overall number to calculate the cost of each item, and thus generate a costing plan? I want to be ablt to give a value to excavation, and then have project divide this up between all the excavation items- so if I have 10 excavation items of different times (the time is related to volume and thus represents a quantity as well), is there a way to get this done automatically? Typically I have over 300 tasks, sometimes 4 or 5 000, and its way too much work to go in and try to edit it all once the estimators have a value.

Seems I can do this, but helps are not a lot of good, and slightly better than our IT- who seem to think if its not word, Excel or email, it doesnt deserve help.

I found this forum because of this thread:

I assume that we are in the same class. I went about the project in a different way using fgets() instead of scanf() since scanf() would only accept a single word.

My problem is that when I enter my menu selection in, it is passing the \n into the respective while loops. At least I think that is happening. I have spent the last 4 days trying to figure out what is going on here and since the project is due tonight I got desperate and decided to ask for help here (I hope this isn't considered cheating!)

OK, so, I'm in Computer Science (IT) so I have an entire course on how to use Microsoft Project 2007. They make us buy a little how-to book. I'm following that book as an homework.

So here is the problem. From the Resource Sheet, I choose a resource. Then, I go to Tools -> Change Working Time. I then click on the tab "Work Week". Then, I create a new exception for the resource. Then, in the boxes next to it, in the drop boxes, there's calendar to set when it begins and where it ends, right? Each time that I want to set the end day, Microsoft Project 2007 crashes automatically. It happens sometimes on the start day too.

Anyone can help with that?

I am seeing some strange issues in the MPP file that I am working on.

I am working on a MPP, which has the following line items as attached in the .jpg file.

1) My problem is with the task name "Req analysis". I expected the end date to be 6/1 and I do not understand why Microsoft project calculates it as 6/5.

2)Sometimes, when I select the work as 16 hours, the duration is not getting calculated as 2 days. It is calculated as 2.28, as if I had a 7 hr/day. But I confirmed I had a standard calendar with 8 hrs/day only.

sometimes, I see the resource usage sheet, if I go and modify the 7 hours as 8 hours, it shows as if it is an overallocated task.

Can someone explain the reason for this behavior and help me fix this problem.

THanks a tonn for your help.

I use Windows system, and there is always mswmm file while using windows movie maker. Now I have found the result.

First, Know the MSWMM File
.MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker project file. By saving the project, it allows you to return to the movie and make modifications at a later time. However, if you're satisfied with the movie and would like to upload and share the result through YouTube, you will need to choose "Save Movie File" under the "File" menu (which is different from "Save Project", which creates the .MSWMM file).

Solution I: Save and Play the MSWMM File
You have to open the mswmm file in Windows Movie Maker and save the movie to your computer ( this step you should use Windows computer):
Go Finish Movie > Save to my computer

The 2 options for saving a video file from Movie Maker are either DV-AVI or WMV. To create a Mac-compatible video file, open the MSWMM file in Windows Movie Maker, save the movie at the highest quality setting WMV or preferably as a DV-AVI format file. Import this finished AVI or WMV file into iMovie or other Mac video editing application.
After the MSWMM file saving as AVI or WMV file in our PC, you can play the WMV/AVI files on your PC and convert them to another video format or burn to DVD.

Solution II: Edit and Burn MSWMM File to DVD on Mac
Talk of burning to DVD, if you are using Mac, how should we do?
First, make sure the MSWMM files had been saved as AVI or WMV format video on your PC, a... Read more

I have two laptops, and old one and a new one. Both are running Windows XP Professional and both have identical versions of Windows Movie Maker. The only difference I can think of is that one was upgraded to Windows XP Professional and the other came with it. I also have a Sony Digital 8 video camera.

I can capture & edit videos in the old computer, but that computer is not powerful enough to play them thru both its own screen and a projector at the same time. I work for a church and this is something we do frequently, so this is a necessary ability.

The church bought the new laptop to correct the projection problem. Now I can not capture the video correctly. I follow all the same steps and it appears to be going great. Then after it creates the clips, I go to play the clips so I can begin editing them and nothing happens. So, I end up creating the video in one laptop and then transferring the video to the other for the presentations.

I know there is the possibility that the problem is having a Sony camcorder, but I don't understand why creating the movie works in one computer and not the other. I've also looked into getting Sony software, but have had little luck in finding any info on it - the only thing I have seen is MovieShaker. According to the Sony Vaio people, that program may only work on a Sony computer.

I've been reading posts here and have seen some mention of Sony Vegas Movie Studio and am wondering if that will have the same proprietary... Read more

I am using word 2000 and printing to a HP laser printer. The problem is the the word document
is split into two sections becasue I want to print one section as Landscape and the other section
as Portrait. The first section is Landscape and the section below it is set for Portrait. The problem
is that when I print the document, the Landscape prints fine but the section set for portrait has
the font stretched and looks nothing like arial or courier or any other font. No matter what font
I change to for the portrait section it always prints like the letters are stretched. Have any ideas

Will someone please explain to me briefly what the difference is between all of these? Why would one want one over the other?

I guess that Windows 2000 is sort of like NT Workstation. If not, please tell me.

And what is the difference between Windows 2000 Server and 2000 Advanced Server?

A:{Advice Offered} - Windows 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Anvanced Server--the difference?

Win2K Professional is, indeed, just NT Workstation 5.0

The real difference between Win2K Server and Win2K Advanced Server is scalability. To quote a CNET article: "Three versions of the operating system will be available next week (it's an old article): Windows 2000 Professional, aimed at PCs and workstations; Windows 2000 Server, for file-and-print servers; and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, supporting clustering, which is a way of making several systems act as a single, more powerful computer.

To quote the FAQ from
Windows 2000 Professional is the workstation edition of Windows 2000. This is basically Windows NT Workstation 5.0, although Win2K Professional of course includes all of the new technologies for Win2K.

Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server is the server edition of Windows 2000, which is designed to serve small- to mid-sized businesses and workgroups. Server supports up to 4GB of physical RAM and up to 4 processors per computer. Advanced Server supports up to 8GB of RAM and 8 processors per computer.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is designed for large businesses and computer clusters. Datacenter supports up to 32 processors per computer and up to 64GB of RAM, as well as built-in clustering and load-balancing features.

Is that what you wanted?

Well I have been experiencing problems with 2000. Firstly
I am running a dual boot of Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000
Pro. My problems are with installing drivers and
restarting and shutting down Windows. Well I installed the
drivers for my HP CD-Writer on Win 98 about three months
ago (and they installed fine), then I got 2000, and when I
tried to install the drivers, it messed up my computer.
Now when I install the drivers, I restart my computer like
it asks, and when Windows restarts, it asks me to insert
the Software Disk 1 (which I just installed), so I do so,
and when I restart again, It asks for the Software Disk 1
again. I have talked to HP and the guy couldn't seem to
help me. So I deleted the CD-Writer drivers from my
computer, and I tried to download them in Windows 98,
instead of 2000 this time. Now they won't download in
Windows 98. I mean what is happening? The software
installed perfectly when I didnt have 2000 on my computer.
Also 2000 won't properly install the software for my
Lexmark printer, what is wrong with 2000? My Lexmark
printer software installed perfectly on Windows 98, and I
have checked with the HP and Lexmark, and they say that
the software on the disks that came with my printer and CD-
Writer is compatible with Windows 2000. Also after the
problem with the CD-Writer drivers, my computer won't
properly restart or shut down. It like freezes when
shutting down, and I have to shut my surge protector off

I just purchased VuPoint Solutions Digital film scanner (FS-C1-VP), without being aware that the driver CD is made for the XP operating system! Is there any way to modify it, or better, to get a replacement CD for 2000 Pro?

A:XP vs Win 2000 Pro problem

The website for your product states the drivers on the site are for XP/98. I'm assuming that 2000 support is not a stretch. Have you tried installing your hardware using the drivers? If the hardware does not work using the drivers from the site, you can simply uninstall the hardware again from the device manager console and youre back to where you started. Though if those drivers don't work, it sounds like your scanner simply will not be compatible at all.

I just noticed this wierd problem. I am trying to create an archive of messages for one year. I click on "archive". tell it what folder to do, and I put "12/31/01" where it says "archive all items older than ____". It does not take all of the messages dated during 2001 out of my pst folder! I opened this new archive file to see what was in it, and there were indeed some messages from 2001, but not all of them!!!!!! Why won't it take ALL of the messages dated BEFORE 12/31/01??

Now, I have a clue but do not know what to do. I noticed that I had several messages on the same date, and it would not archive all of them. so I looked at the properties for each message, and I found that there's a "created", "accessed", and "modified" date, and the MODIFIED date is somehow different......and it's AFTER the date I specified to archive! So, is Outlook looking at the "modified" date to determine which to archive? How do I change the "modified" date to match the "created" date? Is there some software that would do that?

I never modified any email messages!

A:Outlook 2000 Problem

From Outlook Help files:
The date used to determine when an item will be archived depends on the type of item.

E-mail message: The sent or received date, whichever is later; or the last modification date/time.Click to expand...

The Modified date will be changed from the Received date when you Reply to a message or Forward it.

I don't know of any way to change the date/time stamp.

One of those workstations has an ACT database that the laptop needs to synch with. The workgroup LAN has a fractional T1 connection. The laptop has a Verizon wireless broadband EVO card- about a 500K connection.

I have set up both the laptop to establish a VPN connection and the workstation to allow internet VPN connections, by following the appropriate instructions: //

The problem is: I can "successfully" connect the VPN from the client, I am asked to login, and it takes my password fine. My VPN conection will show as active on both workstation and laptop. A:windows 2000 problem

Here is a link to a mskb article that may address your problem.;en-us;179071

Since it started when you converted to ntfs, I tend to think one or more of your tsr apps does not like the ntfs file system. You should be aware that win2k will convert your disk to 512 byte cluster size. This is very inefficient; when you do a clean install with ntfs your cluster size is [generally] 4K. In order to see if one of your apps is causing the problem; you might try and deselect startup programs one at a time. Win2K does not have a msconfig utility. Here is a link to download one; after you copy it to the winnt\system32 folder it will work just like win9x or xp.

Within the past couple of weeks, I've be getting a Blue screen during the course of booting up which says Inaccessible Boot Device. I can't gain access into Windows. Another curious side effect I've been getting is that when I press and hold the power button to turn off the computer, the computer doesn't seem to fully turn off. The Num Lock light on the keyboard still stays on.

I would like to try to run CHKDSK to see if that will solve the problem but I can't seem to get to the Menu where you can get the option to boot from a CD-ROM. From what I can tell, the BIOS menu doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. When I press and hold F8 for Advanced Options, that doesn't seem to mention "boot from CD" either. Is there another button(s) that I should press to get to CHKDSK?

Thanks in advance.

Clicking on the "Help" button is no real help, since it brings up a lot of Visual Basic stuff that I don't understand (not being a VB programmer). Clicking on "End" cancels the box.

I hope someone can help me here.

I have been running windows 2000 for a couple years now and just in the last month I have been having connection problems with Internet browsers.

(I have all the latest updates to win 2000, i.e. 6.0 etc.)

Approximately every 3 hours Internet Explorer 6.0 or Netscape 7.* or Mozilla or Firefox will quit working. To fix the problem I have to reboot and all 4 of them will work again for about another 3 hours then stop.

I still have an Internet connection as my IRC still works, AOL AIM, I can ping web sites in a dos window and do tracerts when this happens.

I have ran every Spyware program and virus program I can find and it keeps coming up with nothing found.

Spybot S&D
Spy Snooper

It appears to me that something is timing out and its not allowing the browsers to connect till I reboot then I am good to go for a few hours.

Also when this happens I cannot use PC anywhere (connection fails) or remote desktop (connection fails)

I guess I should say when this happens that if I stop AIM or my IRC connection and try to reconnect they will not connect. But like I said I still have a connection as I am able to start>>>run>>>cmd>>>>enter then ping any site and get a response back, even tracer works with no failures also able to perform netstat and nslookup commands no problem.

I was trying to fix a ladies computers. Well her 8th grade sons computers actually. He has 2 seperate computers in which she rarely lets him get on the internet with. However I figure he gets on it somehow that she doesnt know about. He also uses the computers for LAN parties with his buddies to play games and such.

Problem was exactly the same for BOTH computers. Both would boot up...make it to the sign on screen...accept passwords......continue loading windows and they would get as far as loading up the background image and that was it. It would never load any icons or give you any other options....basically just a blank screen with only the background image .

Neither computer would go into safe mode or could you get to a dos promt. At one computer did load up correctly but figuring it was a startup program problem...I tried to run msconfig and an error occured saying it was missing the appropriate files....the screen blacked out and it never rebooted normally again....just the background image.

It's odd to me BOTH computers have the same symptoms. Im taking it that it's time for the ultimate boot disk, format/ reinstall...however the lady says she has some important information on one computer and would rather not loose everything if it could be helped.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

I´m having a problem with my voodoo3 2000 PCI video card. I have all the latest drivers installed, plus directx 8 and whenever I try running a game like Unreal Tournament or Counter-Strike I get jerky movement.

It´s not a slowdown or low framerate (I actually get a very good framerate and the game runs really fast), you can see that the card is handling all graphics easily, but it kinda does these "microfreezes" every second (it looks alot like as if it´s still reading something from the harddrive while the game is allready running). I tryed running the game at lower resolutions, tried swtiching between OpenGL and Directx, tried waiting to see if the problem would fade with time and have downloaded every single newest driver I could find. Still I can´t get a smooth movement.

It installs each time with no glitches or error messages. My cynical quess is that Act! support, which does not last more than a few years at best, adds some coding that prevents installation after a certain # of yrs.

Howdy A,

Problem #1: Whenever I try to minimize one of the spreadsheets, the top toolbar to minimize it disappears . I have to right click on the sheet on the taskbar to minimize it. Click to expand...

A little confusing. Are you saying that the Title bar for a particular workbook is missing? or disappears when you click the minimize button?

Problem #2: If I minimize all the spreadsheets, I normally get little bars on the bottom of the Excel program. In the case, they disappear from that document but they still show on the taskbar Click to expand...

It is possible to have several workbooks open in one instance of EXCEL or several open in two or more instances - depending on how you opened them and what your default is set for. For example: I can open an .XLS and then open another and then open EXCEL and open 2 more. Two will show up in one instance - two in another - but on the task bar there will be 4 buttons - one for each file. The only way of knowing that they are in separate instances is to check where they are when they are minimized.

So you need to see if this is happening. And clarify what is going on in question #1

Recently, something has happened to the installation -- when in Powerpoint, As soon as I click on the 'Format' pull-down menu, Powerpoint immediately closes completely! (It doesn't just crash/hang -- it shuts down in a flash!).

I have tried:

1. Repairing the Office installation -- no change in the above behaviour
2. Removing completely, and then doing a completely new install of Office 2000. -- surprisingly, even this does not solve the problem; the re-installed Powerpoint has exactly the same problem. This is totally weird.

How do I get my Powerpoint installation to start working normally again (it was working properly earlier -- I don't know what triggered this problem)? As far as I know, none of the other Office 2K components have been adversely affected.

I've tried to do a repair using Win 2k Pro CD and tried a fast repair. No go. I can't do the auto recovery console because I don't have administrator rights to do the repair. My question is if I can get into ACR, will I be able to fix the computer? Obvious at it may sound, this is my work computer and am waiting for them to call and arrange to repair.. Any suggestions or programs that my help would be helpful...

Thanks in advance..

I'm having a problem with Word 2000 opening files from an ftp server as read-only. First off... the files on the FTP server are not set as read-only files.... anybody with access can edit the files on the server... they have full rights. Second, this problem is only occurring with Word 2000 Version 9.0.2720 and 9.0.6926 SP-3 (the two versions of 2000 we have in the office). All other versions in the office (such as 2002 and even Word 97 SR-2) work fine. The user can log onto the ftp site, select the file... open it... make their changes... and save the file with no problems. Its only occurring in Word 2000, and the problem is, most of our employees are using this version. Is there any kind of fix to this problem? I'm trying to avoid having to purchase new versions of Word to make this work. I know there are other solutions... such as just downloading the file... making the changes... and then uploading it... but thats not what I've been asked to do. We have some employees that know very little about computers and my boss feels that doing anything other than this might be to difficult
So any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

A:Word 2000 FTP problem

This wasn't an issue on Win98 machines for me with Word 2000, but when I upgraded to an XP machine and used XP machines at work, it was a major issue. I teach at a university and use the ftp space to store handouts, etc.

This is what I found helpful:

1) Instead of using network places, which is slow and opens as read-only, TYPE in File box in the Open window <ftp://username[email protected]/anyfoldersyouwannaadd>. You know, without the angle brackets. This opens much faster than network places and ensures that you've got permissions. After a while, I just type in the first few letters of my password and press the down key and the whole bit pops up. Not as sweet as it working right the first time, but acceptable.

2) Make sure that none of the file names have spaces in them. I manually changed all the spaces to dashes, but you can probably just as easily change the file name in the open window before actually opening the file.

That's it. See;en-us;271256.

What a pain in the frikken neck. And if it works on Win98, why can't they make it work right the first time, without the workaround, in XP. Grrrrrr.

wondering if anyone has any ideas about this one:

when trying to delete or move certain messages in outlook, i get this message:

The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.

i've tried repairing the folders using scanpst.exe, which didn't work. this started right after i moved my outlook.pst file from one pc to another. also, the pst file has gotten quite large - over 500MB.

the messages are in the inbox, so i can't rename the folder and start a new one.

any ideas?

thanks so much!

Okay, as the title says, theres a problem.

PC-cillin 2000 wont start. The Real-Time monitor runs, but when I want to run the main program, the error message pops up and ask if I want to send an error report.

It was working before. It ask to update and I said go for it. After it was done, it wanted to update again...and again...and again...with the same file...and it wont stop!

It keeps asking to put in a CD. I dont know if I have the CD for this. I just did a system recovery (or something) a little while ago so I lost everything on my system. PC Cillin 2000 is standard, I guess. Since it came back.
Quick question though, if im using AVG Free Edition, would I still need PC-cillion 2000? Like would my computer still be protected?

Thanks in advance.

Hello All,

I have an Exchange 2000 (SP4)SBS server: lately we've experienced a lot of problems sending email out using SMTP. eMails are either delayed, undeliverable or take around 1 hour to reach destination. The SMTP hosts are telling me there is an internal issue, so I start looking at DNS. (Web browsing seems unaffected).
The DNS Event viewer is giving me event id 5501:"The DNS server encountered a bad packet from", in the App Log I get: event id 984 nd id 4003 "the domain is unreachable" for several domain names.

All the info I found refers to the use of NSLOOKUP as a troubleshooting tool. I tried this and when I run:
set q=mx
server: servername

DNS request timed out

So clearly there is something wrong, however I do not know where to take this!
I have double checked all instances of DNS server settings in the server (Internet connector Wizard) and in the SMTP connector on Exchange...

Another weird thing to note: when using IPCONFIG /ALL, the DNS servers were wrong (they were set to our old provider), using the Internet Config Wizard to change these had no effect (used /FlushDNS and /RegisterDNS afterwards), I ended up changing these manually in the Network Connections, TCP-IP Properties for the interface card.

I know this is not an easy one and I would be grateful if someone would point me in the right direction. I also understand that there could be a lot of info required and I... Read more

A:Exchange 2000 and DNS problem

To add to the prev post:
I have now run the "Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant" on exchange, because the" UNreachable Destination" queue is stacking up:

This is what the Assistant found:
Remote delivery queue SMTP COnnectoris in Retry status

The DNS Recodr Analysis result reported:
No host record found for SMTP instance "Default SMTP Virtual Server"
No Pointer record found for address (our local server)

Mailfow issues found:
mail acceptance failure.
I hope this will shed more light on the problem...maybe not!
Thanks again,

First off, my computer crashed. When I rebooted, I got a message saying that there was an error loading explore.exe, so I would need to reinstall windows. The boot disk for win98 did not work, so I tried the win2000 cd that I had. Everything went fine up until I realized that all the settings were wrong and I couldn't connect to the internet to install any of the drivers for my programs. How do I reverse this? I can't do much of anything on my computer now, and I don't want to have to choose which OS I want to run everytime I boot up, so how do I get rid of win98 and configure my computer to how it was before I crashed?

I upgraded to XP. I tried to load my office 97,
that I have from when I purchased
my 98SE. When I loaded it in seemed to work just fine,
then I started to get error messages when trying to print a Word doc,
that there was an error and Word needed to shut down.
After messing with the problem, I figured that 97 was
not compatible with XP and loaded Office 2000.
Now Word seems to work fine on my wifes login,
but not on mine. I unstalled and reinstalled Office,
but still have the same problem. Is there a fix?

Since it works fine for your wife's login, I would try creating a new login(controlpanel-users) and see if that works. If so, then copy over your my documents, desktop, favorites, etc. from your old profile and use the new one.

I uninstalled outlook express this afternoon and shortly after that, discovered that MS Outlook 2000 needs it to run.

An error message keeps popping up when I start MS Outlook and I cannot get rid of it. I have installed and uninstalled Outlook Express and that same old message keeps popping up. I have spent most of the day trying to fix this and google searchs and the MS website offer no solutions that work.

Anyone know how to fix yet another one of MS game playing with their customers?
