Hello All,

I am looking for something to help me in my work. I have to keep line counts in text and CSV files in a log. I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a batch file?

Here is what i would like for it to do:
Open the DOS window in XP.
Drag the Bat file to the dos window
Drag the file needing to be counted to the same window(or copy the network address), click enter
and have a line count

Currently I use KEdit to get this information from the status bar (size) but thought a batch file might be easier (and quicker).

Can someone help me?

Tannks a bunch

A:Solved: Batch File for Counting Lines in Text or CSV files

Did some Googling around, never really thought of doing this in a batch file. I found a VBscript alternative you might be able to use from command line though.

http://www.computing.net/answers/programming/batch-getting-the-number-of-lines/15728.html

here's a vbscript alternative:

Code:

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments
myFile = objArgs(0)
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(myFile,1)
Do Until objFile.AtEndOfLine
line = objFile.Line
objFile.ReadLine
Loop
WScript.Echo "Line count of", myFile , "is", line

usage:
cscript myscript myfile

The link above is the link to the page where I found this information, wanted to give credit where credit is due. With this script you could just call the script and give it the parameter my file from command line. If you really wanted a batch, you could easily create a batch that echo's each of those lines into a temp.vbs, calls the temp.vbs with a parameter %myfile using the "cscript myscript myfile" command then "del temp.vbs" at the end. Seems very redundant and pointless though.

Hope the VBS helps you.

Greetings! I've searched everywhere for the answer to this issue. It must be common, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm using MS Word 2007, but the problem was the same in 2003. I sometimes get a text box that is behind regular text. I need to move it. One normally just selects a text box and drags, or cut and paste, it where one wants. However, when it is behind text, it can't be selected. I have found no way to select normal text and "send it behind."

How do I get to this text box that is behind my regular text? I've been told to "move the regular text out of the way, then you will be able to get to your text box." But the text box moves with text!

Thanks,

7nyerik

Hi,

Not sure if this could be done...but is it possible to make a script that would tell you the most amount of people that were online at your forum by counting the profile urls in the source code, then displaying the amount and time and date, then it would change if the number increased?

Or could there be another way of doing it?

Thanks

3. i randomly hear some sort of sports radio channel through my speakers, even with my internet browser closed. sometimes its a poker channel, sometimes its baseball, just 10 minutes ago it was a stupid "guess what candy bar your tasting" thing. the only way i can stop it is to restart my computer.

4. my task bar disappears randomly and comes back maybe 20 minutes later. (as im typing this i dont see it)

5. my computer is running extremely slow. ive never had this problem.

6. ive tried running my spybot search and destroy, adaware, and kaspersky, and all 3 of them stop in the middle of the scan saying there was an error, and my computer shuts down.
if i can get some kind of help, i would greatly appreciate it. i dont want to lose any of my programs that i have paid for. i dont want to lose anything, and i cant afford to go out and buy a new computer.

Hello. I bought a used computer a few months back (app. 7-8 mos. ago), but was not hooked up to the internet until 3 weeks ago or so. I got Aol dial-up & unsuccessfully tried to download their anti-virus program, but due to an earlier installation of Norton, some files were still on hard drive, & AOL would not proceed until they were found & deleted. So the bottom line was I was so thrilled to be back on the internet that I didn't push the anti-virus program issue. My fault totally, but when I finally did run a Pc-cillin scan, I was completely shocked at the NUMBER of viruses- I was only through 1/3 of my files & it was reading 7,000 +. However, as I looked at the files being scanned I realized that I did not recognize any of them & the virus which was pre-dominant, Worm GAO, was probably on the computer when I bought it, propagating away. Anyway, I realize the hard drive is toast, but are any of the files salvageable? Could I use Pc-cillin to scan individual files & save them to CD or do I still run risks of re-infecting a new hard drive? Also, I uploaded photos to Yahoo, so if people were to download them to their computers, will they contain viruses? How about saved e-mail? And yes, I definitely learned my lesson the hard way!!! Thanks to anyone, for advice. I have Windows XP Professional. System Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Model VT82C597. AMD-K6 (tm) 3D Processor, MMX, 3D now, 500 mhz . Thank you.

Hello All:

All I want to do is create an Audio CD from some .mp3 files I have.
(15 .mp3 files = 55.9MB)

I have tried ImgBurn, Ashampoo Burning Studio, and BurnAware.

I have tried changing the write speeds to the lowest settings.

It all seems to go well until the end of the burn when every program tells me the Write Failed. That's it- and I don't know why.

I have an IDE Plextor DVD/RW (PX-870A ATA) drive.

Any ideas about settings? Or anything else I should be checking?

TIA!

How long are those mp3 files, not in bytes but in minutes?

Things ro consider... when buring a standard audio CD, the mp3 files must first be converted wav files, the burning programs do this automatically.. at least most of them do. If the mp3s are encoded at a high bit rate the wav files could be quite large... is it possible you're exceeding the size limit for the CD?

The other thing to remember.. although it shouldn't affect the burn, use "Disk At Once".

If you are eligible for the free Upgrade offer you can reserve the DL for the GA. You will need W7 SP1 or W8.1

I see the first topic in the Win 10 section is dated 1st October 2014. We have had nine months of mumping and moaning about the various test releases. As well as a lot of hot air there have been a number of serious and valid points raised - the purpose of the test releases.

Another month and we can all start mumping and moaning about the final release version !

I'm chicken !  I intend waiting at least six months before I consider updating from 7 to 10, and that will be dependent on whether or not I decide to rebuild my computer.

To put it in a nutshell, I downloaded a game, tried to open it, however it never did. Now accessing my processes list... I have over 500 processes running, and counting. All under the name of the game. My laptop doesn't appear to be running noticeably slower, however these 500 processes are going to mess my computer up sooner or later..

I scanned the executable file with MalwareBytes, Kaspersky (my background AV) and Microsoft Defender. It was clean. Kaspersky however, noted that the program was potential dangerous, only because the digital signature was missing. I told Kaspersky to 'Limit' execution - only to stop dangerous actions.

I then continued to watch my process list grow up to 1000, running under my username. Then eventually, the physical memory overloaded and my computer crashed.

Several days later the same thing occurred. However this time, with a different game. I scanned it, and it was clean. I told Kapsersky to once again, limit execution with no digital signature. Within seconds of opening the game, I had over 200 processes, and the number was slowly rising. I had to hit 'End Process Tree' in order to stop my computer from crashing again.

One person suggested that it had to do with Kaspersky... As other games have worked in the past without limiting them.

I know it isn't a virus or anything malicious, perhaps a glitch? And how can I prevent it?

Additional Info:
Windows 7
AV: Kaspersky Pure

Thanks in advance.

A:500 Processes And Counting?

Try Googling the names of some of these processes. Perhaps that will help you figure out what's causing them or if they're malicious.

Also, do you have alot of icons in your task bar next to clock in the lower right hand corner of your monitor? If so, you can disable the ones you don't need running and that'll free up some resources.

Hey there,

I keep getting BSOD's on my Machine. They vary from most being System service exceptions, to IRQL not less or equal, and a couple more that I cannot remember. My event log has recorded 18 thus far, but I've had more - before I installed Windows 7 x64 from XP-64bit.

They are all event ID 41...I'm assuming that's generic and all from the same issue?
I'm using:

Windows 7 x64 (BSODs also happend before I had w7 installed.)
i7 @ 2.6
P6T mobo
gtx260 gpu
6GB G.Skill ram.

Nothing's overclocked, everything is stock.
I've ran memtest and it came back clean - I did 1 pass...but I figure that's fine. I'm certain I've installed up to date drivers for my gtx260, etc. Is there anything that can solve these issues? I believe I've flashed my BIOS with the new firmware as well....

current lab wants us to create an abstract class w/ two concrete classes and an interface used by the abstract class (and hence the concrete classes) and to create another concrete claas based on the interface

so far so easy

then he wants us to create an array w/ at least one type of each concrete class...ok..easy enough.

in fact i'm done w/ this part and have it tested

now he wants us to count the number of instantiations of each concreate class

ok so i'm going to create a private static var ( count) in each concrete class and a public static method in each concrete class to return the count

question: where should i increment the counter...i would think the constructor of each class is the place to do so...he said no...

1. should i create public static count routine in each concrete class

2. should i create publice static var count in the abstract class and public static abstract method count in my abstract class

A:counting class types

i presume this is java? the two classes inherit from the abstract class. Ya?
if so you would go with the second option. don't use a method for increment the number let the constructor do it.

Hi all, I'm currently running HD Regenerator on my other computer and it's found lots (as you can see from the title) of bad sectors. It's slowly repairing them, but for every one it repairs, it finds another 5 or so.

Am I doing the right thing by just letting this run (It's been going all night and it's only checked about 20mb so far)

Is the amount of bad sectors rediculously high and should I just buy a new HD? I've been having problems with my hard-disk, when I get to a certain point (where all these bad secotrs are showing up), my computer starts restarting with a blue screen of death (kernal_inpage_error)

Will this Regen software repair it do you think? It says its repaired about 600 so far.

Sorry there's no real questions here, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about if my drive could be repaired.

Thanks

Hi all,

This summer I designed an Access 2003 database that tracked volunteers for an organization.

They've asked if they could create a report that provides a list of how many volunteers they had in a given period. They only want to count the person no matter how many sessions they've volunteered during the time period.

I've thought about grouping by Unique_ID and then counting the groups, but that leaves me with the question of what to display on the report. Also, I'd like to be able to display the inputted date range (obtained from the query) on the report, if possible.

any ideas on how to accomplish this?

Thanks!

Hi again

This time I've encountered another problem with dates. Below are a series of dates in one column formatted mmm-yy. I have many of these dates ranging from Jan-05 to Dec-05 and a few in Jan-06. I want to have a count of how many Jan-05 I have, how may Feb-05 I have etc. I want a number count. for example I have 2 May-05 and 8 Sep-05. The countif formula does not work since it requires the full date, i.e. May 12, 2005 etc. But then it only gives me 1 count only, since the other May-05 has a different date. All I want is to count the months only. Any idea how to do this?? Do you have to write a macro to accomplish this task??

Hello,

I recently put a workstation together and am expeirencing the memory counter checking/testing/counting the memory 5 or more times. Sometimes its only three, tonight it was five or six...

The board is an MSI 6368 ver2.1

The BIOS is Award Modular W6368MS Ver 3.1 051501 Pentium 3 1000 Mhz 133 x 7.5 512mb of pc133 generic memory [IBM]

The power supply is 250 watt, and is running Windows Advanced Server, why? I dont know... practise ... lol.. anyways...

It gives me the option "esc" to skip memory test then boot.

I would like to know how to set this counter so it is not counting the memory more than once at boot up.

Thank You

Hi again

Once again, I would like to thank all of you for your help in Excel programming. You guys are GREAT!!

I have another slight problem I need help with. I have a column, say column A, with text. Most of this text is repetitive in nature. I want to keep only the first 10 rows of the text that is repetitive and cut and paste the other repetitive text to sheet 2. Here is an example: Let us say that Column A has this text. I just used any text. The columns could have repetitive numbers as well. This is just an example.

Etc down the column. This list is extremely long. As you can see form my example, there are 12 qwe's, 4 rty's and 13 uio's. I would like to keep only ten or less of each groupings and cut and paste those groupings in excess of 10 into sheet 2. In other words, when the macro is run, I would like to have 10 qwe's, 4 rty's and 10 uio's in sheet 1. Sheet 2 would then have 2 qwe's and 3 uio's.

I have tried to create a macro by myself but this is beyond my prgramming expertise. Any help woud be appreciated.

Am using Athlon 600 with 128 Ram. Pc has for some reason stopped counting Ram at bootup which it usually did. Any ideas?

A:{SOLVED} Pc not counting RAM at bootup

Do you mean it doesn't work or just that the screen with it counting is being bypassed?

Many systems have that as an option - just go into CMOS and look around for something like QuickStart or Memory Test and turn it back on if it is disabled.

I run a (Count) formula in an Excel 2003 worksheet (SP2 Teachers and Students Edition) which I update every week. (It counts a series of dates i.e.

1/2/07
8/2/07

Count = 2

etc. )

My problem is that when I update each week, the count formula doesn't include the extra cells, but includes a green triangle on the top left of the cell where the formula lies. I have tried the F9 command to update calculation but this doesn't work. If I click on the cell where the count formula is I get the following screenshot.

Is there a way where each week that the formula is updated automatically?

The company that I work for is "going green" and individual employees would like to know how many pages they print on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

These employees all print to a networked printer, but instead of getting a cumulative count of how many pages a department prints, each employee wants to know how many pages he/she prints.
Has anyone ever had to configure something like this?

A:Counting Print Jobs

I have seen this. But it is not computer related. It was part of the printer. Each user has to enter their personal code in order to print pages, and then the printer keeps track of the numbers.

Hi,

When we right click on any folder or drive, and then see Properties, Windows shows count of files and folders. My question is that what technique Windows uses to count files and folders? Does it uses FindFirstFile() and FindNextFile() API or some other techniques? My doubt is because my program shows count slower than Windows. Anyone please clear my doubt.

Thanks and Regards,

Brand new system with Asus A7N8X-X mobo, AMD Athlon processor.

The first hard drive was a western digital. It immediately started making loud clicking noises when I powered it up.

I returned it and bought a Maxtor diamond Max 80GB drive. This one allowed me to install windows, etc, and then started making clicking noises and locking up. Powermax reported that the drive was failing.

Returned it and got an identical Maxtor drive. Everything worked perfectly for a few days. Since I actually got the pc to boot, and some software installed, I discovered that the system was very unstable. A memory test revealed that the memory stick was bad. After replacing it, all was well.

I sent the computer home with its rightful owner, and he called me almost immediately. As soon as he powered it on, the hard drive started making loud clicking noises and locked up. Powermax revealed that the drive was failing.

How likely is it that this computer destroys three hard drives? Is there any possibility that the mobo or power supply is frying these drives? I've been carefully watching heat, and it seems withing tolerable ranges. HD is about 100 degrees, CPU around 115 degrees. The case has two big fans on it, and the cpu has another.

Am I doing something wrong?

A:Three hard drives down and counting

Check and/or replace the HD data and power cables. I once killed a floppy drive because the power cable was assembled wrong and 12V went to the 5V pin..

Check the PSU voltage levels too.

I have what I hope is a simple issue in Access. I have a simple set of results of targeted email campaigns. I have a Access report grouped by Salesperson and within that group, each email recipient is listed with an indication of whether or not that person opened our email. Such as:
Smith, George Opened
Smith, John Opened
Smith, Sarah Not Opened.

I am looking for the proper function/syntax to count the total number of "Opened" messages in each group. I've tried a DCount function, but haven't gotten it to work. I know I can work with a count in a query, but I'm interested to see if I can do this right in the report and learn something new regarding functions.
Thanks!

This is multi-part question on how to create different formulas on the attached worksheet.

#1 - I would like to count the number of Start Dates IF the Start Date is blank or greater than today, but only IF there is a date in the Requisition Date column. This would be to indicate the total number of open positions as of today.

#2 - I would like to count the number of cells in column A that are greater than or equal to 17 IF the Start Date is blank or greater than today, but only IF there is a date in the Requisition Date column. This would indicate total number of open positions that have a grade lever of 17 or above.

I have an excel sheet like the attached which I have 3 different departments

I have a collumn each for approved and released. The sheet itself will be updated manually each day when a department appoves an item which has previously been released.

What I am trying to do is keep a record of what we have outstanding and released relating to each department.

Please see attached sheet

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cell L2 Blank Cell M2 blank Cell O2 29 Cell P2 25.

I need this total to total 1 for the 2 full cells of O2 and P2.

Then after that any 2 cells together ie R2 and S2 adds 1 to the total providing that both cells are full.

to explain beter I'm doing a darts spredsheet keeping totals so i need 2 full cells to total a game win of 1. Then every 2 cells full after will be game win 2,3,4 etc.

I hope someone can help.

I have an excel spreadsheet--in which I cannot use VBA (for security reasons)--and I am trying to count cells. Each day that an occurance does not happen, an accident for example, I add 1 to the current day (for weekdays) and one for each weekend. However, if an occurance does happen, I need to reset the count to 0. Across the top of the sheet, I have the dates. I have a formula that looks like such:=IF(I$1="E",COUNTIF($C$1:I$1,"E")+IF($C3="X",0,$C3),IF(AND(I$1="D",H$1="D",H3="X"),1,COUNTIF($B$1:I$1,"D")+IF($B3="X",0,$B3))). The problem is that the formula only counts from the begining, and I need it to change to where it counts from the last "X" (for weekday or weekend as needed). Basically I have two individual sheets on top of one another--!
I am sure that the answer is stupidly simple, I just can't see it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i need to Count how many cells in col(O) display a "Y" between dates in col(C)

at the moment i use countif but this just counts all the "Y"'s

Excel 2007

each row displays many columns of data

the counting takes place on another sheet in the book as the data sheet cant be edited

each job entry is not necessarily in the correct date order as they are listed per job number col(A)

so i would like a formula to look at each date, access whether it falls between the given dates, and report back how many entries within the dates is marked with a "Y"

A:Counting criteria dependant on dates

Hi, since I have absolutely no idea of what you have my suggestion may not work but maybe you could add an extra column that, based on a formula that checks a specifi dat that could be entered in let's zay Z1 puts a 1 in all cells in a column next to column C where the date should be counted for and then count all "Y' where that column = 1 ?

No version of Excel, no idea of the further lay-out, so it's just a blind suggestion... hope you can do something with it.

Greetings,I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 900 in late December 2015 from their website. I immediately registered it on Lenovo.com using the "detect my serial number" feature. Overall it served well for 4 months. Then it did not turn on, or respond to charging. I then contacted the company to conduct a repair. Here's just how bad it is: 1. Self detect of serial number incorrectly identified the machine as something else (later to be determined a thinkpad, not ideapad product -- nowhere anywhere on the Yoga 900 does it say what it is).2. I submitted a service ticket using the only Serial Number that I had registered with the account with explicit notice that the SN was incorrect. They sent me a mailer in a day. This was 19 May 2016 3. On May 25t (day 6) I tried to contact the company. This was not particularly easy. A nice person was on the phone and stated that they had no idea where my laptop was.4. May 31st. Called again and was transferred around. Still no idea where laptop was. After about 1.5 hours on the phone a nice woman located it for me. Wrong city--apparently it's at the Thinkpad shop, not the Ideapad shop...Again, Lenovo sent me a shipping ticket and a box, so I had no idea this was incorrect. I received a telephone number and a case ID from this helpful person, with an indication that on June 3rd, the computer would be diagnosed (it was memorial weekend). Also that my case was flagged as "variance" to their statistics for return time for service....5. June 3-8... Read more

I have a database that I would like to use to capture numbers of events per month based on certain conditions. For simplicity sake assume I have three columns. Column 1 is the date. Column 2 is the division code (assume for a forumula that one of the codes is NI). Column 3 is the type of event (assume for the formula that one of the event codes is PER). I've been able to count the number of events where NI and PER occur using the COUNTIFS formula. However, when I try to narrow the count to a specific month I cannot seem to get the formula to work. I?m not sure how it happened, but my Windows 7 laptop started doing an upgrade to Win 10 four days ago, and it still seems to be in the process. The hard drive light periodically flashes. Control/Alt/Delete does nothing. When I power down and try to power back up into safe mode it shows me the Win 10 windows logo and then continues the upgrade process never allowing me into safe mode. Turn it off, unplug it, and remove the battery. Hold the Start Button down for one minute, and then put it back together and turn it on. If that doesn't get you back into 7, it's possible that you have had a hardware failure.

I have built a formula to distinguish between anything other than "Open" as a "0" as below:

What I require is a formula that will count up the amount of days in total of any open items and not count the closed, problem and new statuses. Please see attached example. Total of open days old should be 167

May 31st started my problem. At first I noticed that when I googled something my searches ended up going to somewhere else. Then I noticed that all of my programs in the start menu dissapeared, i tried to clean my system by going to "Accessories" and "system tools" and "disk cleanup" but nothing is there anymore. I have downloaded and run numerous virus scans. Numerous viruses have been found and I eliminated them, but that never works as there is always something else that is hosing the system. I can not surf the internet, some programs are gone and this has been going on for what seems like an eternity. When I open a program, like a MS Word 2010 document then MS Word 2010 shows up again under "Programs", otherwise, nothing shows up.
I have run anti-virus programs now and nothing shows up, but the problms still exist. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In one report all records and the one filtered by Director, I need to total up the records in the employee info table and have the count available for a calculation in the reports, Takes the total hours and divides by the number of employees. In the filtered form, Director Report Date I would like it to go and tally the records of all the employees for the director chosen in the form each time the report is run so if they add employees the calculation will always be current. The same thing needs to happen for the ALL employee report... count all records and store. Should this be controlled by the form? I have included a copy of the mdb.

I have a table with about a dozen Yes/No boxes. The Table has a column for each Yes/No choice. Each user will go to a form with 12 choices and can click from 1 to 12 choices. I would like to be able to have a report for each user that will show the number of selections.

Example:
User #1 picks 4 of 12, User #2 picks 8 of 12, and User #3 picks 12 of 12.
I would then like to be able to run a report that looks at at each row in the table and counts how many "yes" then divides that by the number of choices and displays a percentage.

Output on form would be something like:
User #1: 33%
User #2: 67%
User #3: 100%

What would be the best way to perform this task with me stating that my Access 2007 skills are in the beginner stages? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is it possible to count how many times a single word occurs in a MS word document. For example, if I wanted to count all instances of the word 'apples' in a document, is there a way to do it?

I've tried scouring MS Office help but without any success (no surprise there I guess).

A:Counting Individual Words In Ms Word

Hi Floydoid.
Outside of a macro, the easiest way is to just open the .doc in Word then click Edit>Find.
Type the word you're looking for in the "Find What" box and put a checkmark in the "Highlight all items found" option. Click the "Find All" button. Above the buttons, word will give you the number of times the matching criteria (the word) was found.

I am trying to use "Count" to count each individual record in a Query. I only have 25 records in the database so far, and each time I run the query record #2 counts as "5". Everything else shows a "1". I have looked at my table setup, and all the records are set up just alike. I can't figure out what's wrong.

Anyone have any ideas?

What kind of query? A Totals Query I hope?
What field are you "counting"?
Are you SURE it's record #2 and not 5 records for that field?

Hi there,

I have a query that currently displays all data from certain fields in my database when I run the query.

One of those fields in the query is 'Date' another field is 'Name of student' and the other is 'description of duty'. What this is showing is on a particular date, what students have to do which duties around the school.

I need to create another field in the query which will count the number of students doing a particular duty on a certain date.

So for example:
On the 28/11/2011, there are 5 students doing the duty of cleaning up the common room.

Currently when I run the query this is shown as a date in one field, the duty in another field and the students doing the duty in yet another field.

What I want is another field called 'number of students doing duty' which would show (for the example I gave before) the number 5.

Any help ASAP would be appreciated.

A:Record counting in Access 2007

madbull94, welcome to the Forum.
This sounds a bit like School or College course work to me.
This may take more than one query to do what you want, one query to Group the Date and Duty and then a second query based on the first query with the original table added and linked via the Date & Duty fields to count the number of Students.

I have a database for a senior center membership. Members are from a number of area towns. I am trying to write a report showing the demographics by town. ie gender, age etc. I have grouped a count of members by town, and now I want break that down by age groups. It would look something like this:
ANYTOWN 50-60 60-70 70+
members = 20 10 5 5

NEXTOWN
members = 10 3 3 4

ETC.

I found a function on line that will compute ages from DOB and assign them to age groups. I use this function in a query that gives me the demographic info I'm looking for, including a column named "AgeGrps" My problem is "How do I get a count of each age group by town in the format shown above?" Any help will be greatly appreciated

A:Counting Age Groups in an Access Report

Ron, it may take 2 queries to do this, one to put them in to the age groups and then a second one to Group and count them by Town. Or you could possibly use a Crosstab to do the Grouping and Counting.

Can you post a zipped Access 2000-2003 copy of the Database for us to look at?

I've never posted on a help board before, so I hope I include everything needed. At about 10pm Sunday night my computer started fussing at me, (wanting to change the registry constantly) and this was followed by massive pop-ups. I keep my computer in good shape (I thought), so I knew right away something got me. At that time I was using Avast Antivirus and Spyware Search & Destroy. Both programs didn't find anything, however a program I didn't even know I had found lots....luckily I was suspicious of that and stayed away because I found out later that was actually part of the virus.I installed McAfee (and uninstalled the other 2) ...still nothing found.Installed various other programs, including the VundoFix, which picked up 3 instances but couldn't keep them away.I saw a lot of people were having good luck with Spyware Doctor, so I dl that and after the search came up positive I bought the program (I was desperate and it was now 3am). This program keeps coming up with 1 threat and 39 infections but after I restart they essentially come back. Here are some specific problems i'm having:"userinit.exe error...the application failed to initialize properly.." after starting up, I don't see the startbar or icons, just the background. I use CTRL+ALT+DLT to bring up task manager and run explorer and any other prgms."rundll32.exe" error when I attempt to turn on firewall, or do anything related to firewall (through control panel or networking)I managed to stop a... Not sure if anyone is going to have a go with this one but I have made some progress with it myself....so I thought I would update, and perhaps offer advice if anyone happens to be in the same boat.

I booted from my WinXP disk and went into DOS in order to delete that one file that I couldn't (edniuj.dll) After starting back up I just about screamed because I didn't get those userinit.exe errors. I also saw the startbar and icons pop up. I have yet to get any rundll32.exe errors so I got the firewall going. The only thing that looks off is after a minute or two the desktop background disappears and is replaced with what looks like the inside of an explorer folder, complete with a couple extra clickable icons.

I also went into regedit and searched for anything with MS Juan, found a couple hits, deleted those.
I am currently running Kaspersky again, so far...at 35%, nothing.

I would certainly appreciate any other insight on getting rid or clearing up other places this bug might be hiding.
I imagine i'm not out of the woods yet?

I will post the resulting logs here when they are done.

How do you create a drop down menu and count the number of times you click that value into another cell? But have the drop down menus disappear once you've chosen your value so that you can choose another one but still count your previous selection? Here's the scenario:I have about 20 values in a drop down list according to each person, but a person can have more than one of those categories over a month's span.I have those same values spread across right next to it, 20 columns. Each of those has a box to tally each category when chosen. I want to pick a value from the list, have it recorded, then be able to choose another one but keeping the past selections. Keep in mind that we can not see your worksheet from where we are sitting.re: "I have about 20 values in a drop down list according to each person, but a person can have more than one of those categories over a month's span."What do you mean by "according to each person"? I have a list of incidents catagorised by Date, type, and Cause. I want to show (using formulae) totals as follows

All incidents in a given year - I've done this by using

=COUNTIFS($C$4:$C$123,">=01/01/2006", $C$4:$C$123,"<=31/12/2006")

for each year which works very well. Now I want to total how many of a specfic type of incident occur in a given year - I tried this

=COUNTIFS($C$4:$C$123,">=01/01/2006", $C$4:$C$123,"<=31/12/2006", $D$4:$D$124, "=contact")

which returns #VALUE! error, I'm guessing its because I've introduced a text value but am not sure.

Hi,

I have a data set on the semiconductor industry with 4 main columns that looks like this:

Alliance Description Product&Service Transistor_Technology Feature_Size

Alliance Description contains paragraphical company descriptions in each cell. For example, "Multi-year agreement for technology licensing and development. The three-phase agreement includes the transfer of Sharp's 0.25 process technology to 1Si, joint research and development of 0.18 technology, and a wafer supply agreement for Sharp. Sharp agreed to buy 20% of the fab's output (more than $300 million worth of wafer shipments) through 2005. "

Each Alliance can be described as under 3 broad categories of Product & Service, Transistor Technology and Feature Size.

Under each broad category of Product & Service, Transistor Technology and Feature Size, I have sub categories in columns as below:

Product&Service Transistor_Technology Feature_Size
DigBipolar StdAnalog ........ Gallium Silicon ....... >1micron 1 micron....

Total no. of sub categories for Product and Service: 15 sub columns (DigBipolar, StdAnalog etc)
Total no. of sub categories for Transistor_Technology : 10 sub columns (Gallium, Silicon etc)
Total no. of sub categories for Feature_Size : 10 sub columns (>1 micron, 1 micron etc)

I have data of the monthly total of purchases by each customer. It looks something like this: 0,0,0,100,200,0,0,300,0,0,0,20,0,250,0,0. All in separate cells in a row. I want to be able to return the values of 2,3,1. I need to find a way to count the amount of zero values between the non zero values. With or without the amount of zeros following the last nonzero number is a little less important. For reference I have a formula to count to the amount of months since the first purchase and also the amount of months since the last purchase. They are the following: =COUNT(DD2:INDEX(A2:DD2,MATCH("",T(1/A2:DD2),0))) and =ROWS(A2:DD2)-MATCH(2,1/(A2:DD2>0))+108. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks PS using Excel 2010 I believe

In each column it should list the size of the gap between non-zero entries. See attached for (hopefully) more clarity: =IFERROR(SMALL(IF($G2:$DJ2>0,COLUMN($G2:$DJ2)),COLUMN(A:A)+1)-SMALL(IF($G2:$DJ2>0,COLUMN($G2:$DJ2)),COLUMN(A:A))-1,"") The results I've checked appear to hold up?

I need to sort records in groups using the fields:

DATE-OUT , EQUIPMENT , LOCATION , INSTRUCTOR,
1/5/05, LCD-Pro, LAB 101, JONES,

and get a count for the equipment used in the location field and a count of the equipment used by each instructor. In other words what I need to know is

1. How many LCDs were used in LAB101 between 1/1/04 and now.
2. How many LCDa did Instructor JONES use between 1/1/04 and now

The DATE-OUT field has records from 1/1/02 thru 6/9/05, I need to use all the records from 1/1/04 to now. I tried using >12/31/03 in the criteria box, but when I use the group by for the LOCATION and INSTRUCTOR I get separate dates. I just need the date range not each date. They need to be sorted by EQUIPMENT, which only matches any reference to LCD in the field and they need to be grouped by LOCATION, and INSTRUCTOR. When I use group by for the two fields LOCATION and INSTRUCTOR I get nothing. Please help. Thanks.

Here's the situation. I've come home for the weekend and found that the computer here is loaded with problems (probably been accumulating for 3 years or so). I've done as much as I could, but here's a detailed description of what I've done so far... and what more is there to be done.

-First tried to run virusscan, but realized that norton antivirus stopped allowing system scans
-tried to run msconfig, but wouldn't let me do anything... assumed it was a virus
-reinstalled norton antivirus 2006, scan once again didn't work (don't ask me why i was so persistant with this)

-went on symantec.com and did a webscan, which at least made my installed and running antivirus start picking up viruses as the file was scanned online... computer then restarted it, and I gave up... quarantined and deleted all picked up files
-lurked around a lot and did some tweaking with RegSeeker, put up a firewall from Zone Alarm, used CleanUP!, used KillBox to get rid of some folders, and loaded .dlls
-ran ad-aware, spybot, and spyblaster
-ran panda scan, have the log but didn't know how to delete the viruses on there
-currently defragging and running Housecall virus scanner

now, I have a couple problems still. my msconfig works, but my norton doesn't... i just deleted it since there probably is a friendlier program i can use. some other programs like unlinker say that they're missing the correct program associated, yadda yadda... so here's my hijackthis log. please tell me what i need... Hi. Lets say that i have a table that contains check boxes. My report lists all the checkboxes, and down in the page footer, I want to have a text box that counts the number of checked boxes. My checkbox name is called checkbox and i've tried many variations of =Sum and =Count and can't seem to get it to work. My textbox always ends up showing =Error when I run the report. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

A:Counting Checkboxes in Access Report

Have you tried this variation?

=Sum(Iif([checkbox]=True;1;0))

The problem with this is that you probably want a total just for the page in question. Access doesn't do this without a little more complexity than you might expect, but it does do it. This article from MS shows you how it works:

Hi guys,

In a previous thread I have asked how to conditional format fields within a certain time frame and have been given the answer =TODAY()-[No of days].

This works sucessfully, so that if I want to mark every date more than a year old in red the command is =TODAY()-365.

Is there a way that I can then count these fields?

Basically.. after they have been marked red I want to know how many reds i have in each column..

Sorry... im an excel newbie .

Thanks

A:Solved: Excel, Counting certain fields

Use the CountIf function.

Select the range of cells that you want to have counted and then enter a condition like >365

I am using Excel 2007

I have a .csv file that can be dropped into Excel (see attached - "January Example for Email"). Look at column "F - Study Date Time". I need to auto populate that column of information, separated by total number of entries for a particular hour, into a second spreadsheet (see attached - "CT Exam Hourly Matrix").

Looking at "January Example for Email", column "F", the first entry is "1/1/2012 1:24". On that date, from the 1:00 - 2:00 hour (using 24 hr military time), there is one (1) entry to autopopulate into "CT Exam Hourly Matrix" B:3. The second entry in "January Example for Email", column "F" is "1/1/2012 10:43". So there is one (1) entry to autopopulate into "CT Exam Hourly Matrix" B:12.

Column/Row F:19 & 20 in "January Example for Email" has two (2) entries for that hour to be autopopulated into "CT Exam Hourly Matrix" C:18.

Therefore, the total number of entries for a specific hour will be tallied (sum) and transferred to the second spreadsheet in the appropriate column & row.

Is there a means to automate this process using only Excel or VBA or ??? I apologize for being completely Excel "challenged" and would be most grateful for your assistance. I have no idea what I am doing or how to do it. This is strictly a job related / personal need project to make my daily life sane again.

My roommate's Vista desktop started crashing a few days ago. Spectacularly, mind you - BSOD with some message about IRQ. I know that's not too helpful, but he didn't write it down... and since then, we haven't had a chance. Now every time he tries to boot, the BSOD appears with varying error messages. I'll try and get some more details about that if we ever get back to that point. This morning he started up the Startup Repair program... and it's still going. "may take a few minutes"?!? Surely if it hasn't done anything in 13 hours, it's not going to work? Can anyone confirm that?

It's not my PC, and I don't know the first thing about Vista, but I'll try and get more details. In the meantime... other options besides Startup Repair, which pretty clearly has failed, even if it doesn't know it yet? Thanks!

A:Windows Startup Repair at 13 hours and counting

You've probably got a hardware problem. Possibly malware.

Make sure to unplug all USB devices. Vista installs in about 1/3 the time of XP. For me, in about 20 minutes. 13 hours means it's never going to happen, and if it does it will be completely pooched.

Right down whatever errors you get. Your optical drive could be bad. Is the disk scratched at all ?

What symptoms did it have before it started going bad ? Any error messages, warnings, etc...

Did he have an AV software installed ? What was it ?

I was trying to fix a hacked web site today when the Windows XP Home PC I was using locked up and would not restart. After a hard restart, all I got was a ack screen with mouse control. I tried safe mode and got the same thing. ctr+alt+del does not even bring up the task manager. I tried a repair installation and it did no good.

I continued trying to fix the hacked web site with a 2nd PC and it started acting the exact same way. Now I have 2 dead PC's and I am writing this thread from my last one. Since the infected PCs will not boot, I cannot run the normal pre-post items.

Getting very desperate and any help is much appreciated.
