Error Message Opening Word Document Says that another user has it opened

Q: Error Message Opening Word Document Says that another user has it opened

When I open any word document on my PC, I get a message that a user called Student has the document open, would I like a copy...I am the only user and there is no documents open. I have tried logging off and logging on as another user and still get the same problem. I definately don't have it opened or in use anywhere on my system. I have tried control+alt+delete and checked if something is running and it isn't. I have gone to my administrator tools and checked the services and again, can't see anything. Does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this? Thanks

Whenever I launch MS Word 2003 (or try to send an email which uses Word as its editor) the WIndows Installer pops up, then shortly thereafter an error message comes up saying, "MS OFFICE Standard Edition 2003 Installation Error: FIle not Found A required installation file YC561413.CAB could not be found. ORiginal INstallation source required." The error message originally told me I needed a different file for Speech Recognition (which I have never used/have no use for). I got sick of the messages so I got my disks out and tried to find the files it wants, but couldn't. How do I stop this annoying glitch? I did recently install Adobe Acrobat, and I wonder if that somehow caused this problem. Help! I use Word all the time and it takes forever to cancel out of the installation. Once I do, it works fine.

I seem to have a strange one here, when I go to save a word document I have modified it throws up and error about "file permission error". I have checked on the microsoft site and it suggests updating Word 2000 to SR1a, which I have now done but still get the error. At least now it doesn't delete the doc anymore.
The disc is less than half full, about 500kb, so it can't be because the disc is anywhere near full.
I have reformatted a disc and tried it but still the same error.
The operating system is Windows 98Se.
Has anyone any suggestions as to what may be causing this error?

Hey guys !

When I attempt to open a word document, I get a error message :

Word failed reading from this file. Please restore the network connection or replace floppy disk and retry.

I'm left with 2 options - retry and cancel.

I see my text in teh background, however I can't access it because the popup box is in the way.

I'm running it off a local hard drive.

Does anyone know how I can repair this ? It's a very important document.

Thanks.

I have a Word 97 document (.doc) that all of a sudden is no longer openable by the very Word 97 that created it. I tried what the error message said, but nothing helped.

Is it "corrupted"? Is there a file repair tool that will tell me what's wrong and fix it?

It will open in WordPad, but of course is mostly squares.

Hello Bleeping Computer. I have used this forum before to fix issues with my computer, and for the issue i have today, i haven't been able to find an existing solution.

I tried to open my essay file today but when i tried, i get the message

"We're sorry. We can't open JALE1014 Drugs and Crime essay.docx because we found a problem with its contents".
Details: The file is corrupt and cannot be opened.

I then try to use the Word recovery of my file, but this is what happens

"We're sorry. We can't open JALE1014 Drugs and Crime essay.docx because we found a problem with its contents".
Details: Microsoft Office cannot open this file because some parts are missing or invalid.

I tried every single fix that i was able to find, and to name them, they are:

Opening the file on another computer. Didn't work
Changing the file extension from docx to zip. Wasn't able to open it.
Changing the file extension to rtf. Wasn't able to open it.
I tried to find previous versions of the file in my autosaves folder in Appdata\roaming\microsoft but didn't find one.

A:I cannot find a word document I opened as an email attachment

The file will be located in a folder somewhere in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet

"\AppData" is normally hidden
"\Temporary Internet Files" is normally a hidden protected Operating System
file

You'll have to remove the checkmark (if they're hidden) in Windows Explorer:
Organize - Folder & Search Options - View

Good luck in finding it, though.

The correct way is to save the attachment first, then open it
from the saved location, if you wish to edit it.

From time to time, when I open a Word document, it is opened read only. I have no idea why this happens. It is fairly infrequent (3-4 times a month) and seems random.

The problem is that I don't notice that it's read only, so I go about merrily on editing the document. When I try to save it, I get the Save As dialog. In  then have to save it under a different name, delete the old copy, and rename the new one. In addition to a royal pain, it screws up my archive log.

Is there a way that I can have Word warn me whenever a document is opened read only?

Thanks

A:Can I get Word 2007 to warn me when a document is opened read only?

I did a little more research and found this website:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12630878/word-vba-document-readonly-status-incorrectly-returns-false

It has a document_open macro which I adapted as follows:

Sub Document_Open()
If ThisDocument.ReadOnly = False Then Exit Sub
MsgBox "This document is read only."
'UserForm1.Show
End Sub

I saved it in a Normal code module and set a breakpoint. It does get executed every time a document is opened, but the readonly test is always False, even when the document has the Read Only flag set and the title bar clearly says "(Read Only)".

Is there a way to modify this macro so that the MsgBox statement will execute when a document is opened read only?

Was Office loaded on that machine at work?
If so it is my guess that one of two things is happening.

1) The Office dll that displays pictures is resident on the work network and is only loaded when it is needed - thus displaying that message.

2) A similar thing with the document that just the link (and thumbnail) to the pictures were included in the document. The actual pictures are still on the network.

I've got some strange behavior going on with .doc files at the moment. Whenever I try to open a .doc file from Windows Explorer or a desktop shortcut, Word opens with the error message "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. *Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. *Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

After clicking OK, the .doc file then opens in Word, apparently with no problems at all (I can edit, save, etc.). So basically the error message seems to be wrong, since the file does open properly.

I can open .doc files from within Word (File -> Open) with no error message.

The issue is more of an annoyance than anything else (since the file eventually opens up just fine), but I imagine it'll just become more irritating as time goes on. Any suggestions on how to resolve it? I've been poking around in the Folder Options -> File Types in Explorer without a clear sense of purpose.

I'm running MS Word 2003 SP3 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. If you need any further info, please let me know.

Thanks for your help!

3. Click Microsoft Word.
4. Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.

A:word opening document at startup

If you want to open Word with no document showing, not even a blank one, make a shortcut to "winword.exe" wherever you want it or use one you already have. I discovered that you can do this with a shortcut already on the Start Menu under Programs or one on the desktop but you cannot do this with a Word shortcut that's "pinned" to the Start Menu. You can either use an existing shortcut or make a new one, add the change below and then pin it if you like.

Right click on the shortcut and go to Properties. In the "Target" field, at the end of the path add one space and /n. Click OK.

When you click on that shortcut, Word will open "blank," that is, no document showing.

On the other hand, if you do want it to open with a blank document but it's opening one with data in it, it's likely that the file that's opening is a document that accidently got saved as "normal.dot." To save that document and return normal dot to it's blank state, open Word, click on Save As, make sure that "Word document (.doc)" (without the quotes) is showing in the Save As Type field, and save it wherever you like. Close Word.

Then search the harddrive for "normal.dot"...it's a hidden file so make sure in Folder Options>View that "Show hidden files and folders is checked...and delete it.

One or the other of these solutions should work...unless I've completely misunderstood the question.

It is very similar to MS office suites which should allow you to open your .doc files and many others. I used it only once, and I can't remeber how user friendly it is.

Hello everyone, I've been having some issues with Word 97 lately and I'm absolutely stumped. Any help would be wonderful...

Twice now, I've had Word 97 tell me that it cannot open select documents; a few weeks ago I tried to open a doc and it gave me this message:

Word cannot open the document.
Try one or more of the following:
* On the File menu, click Open to open the document.
* Make sure the file has a .DOC extension

I did both; it would not open from the File menu and it DID have a .doc extension. I tried everything I could think of to get it back, including moving it to another computer and trying to open in there, renaming the document, everything. The closest I got to getting it back was opening it in WordPad - even then, it ate certain paragraphs up and lost the last page completely.

After having no luck at getting it back, I decided that since the document was only 3 pages long, I could stand to retype it and deleted the document. I had no problems opening up any of my many other documents; and so I figured, somehow that one file got corrupted and I just needed to cut it as a loss.

But now, it has happened again with another, much longer document. Again, I can get some of it back with WordPad/RTF, but not all of it. As before, all other documents are fine and openable, just not this one. I have scanned for viruses and the like - my computer seems to be clean. I have moved all my other documents to a removable flash drive so that they don't... Read more

I have MS Word 2003 and have been having trouble with it the last few months. If I do not have MS Word open, and I double click on a specific MS word document on my computer, one of two things happens:
1) MS Word opens up, but not that specific document
2) I get an error message saying that MS word can't find that specific document

In either case, I double click on the specific MS document again, and it opens up fine the 2nd time. It's just frustrating.

Any thoughts? If MS Word is already opened, any specific document I try to open works fine.
I'm not sure if it is interrelated, but also, when my outlook is open and I try to click on a web link from an email, if my web browser (firefox) is not already open, I get an error message as well, and I have to open my web browser first and then go back and click on the link again. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case there was some connection.

I appreciate the help!

Dear Friends,

My O.S. is XP Home Edition and I use Microsoft Word 2000. I am the Secretary of an organisation in our village and type out on Word the Minutes of our meetings, save them into a folder and then post them on to our village web site. If I then go to the web site and click on the link to the Minutes Archive they open and can be read without a problem.

A very good friend of mine has Windows 7 for her O.S. and has Microsoft Word 2010 installed, if she goes to the Minutes Archive on the web site and clicks on a particular file it does not open but an error message appears headed "File Extension", which gives three choices, Find, Save or Cancel. I clicked on Find which gave a choice of two downloads which seemed to indicate that the Minute files would then open, but after downloading both they still would not open. So I clicked on Save, saved the particular file into a folder on the computer, then went to the folder, double clicked on the file and the particular set of Minutes opened and could be read.

Although my friend can now access and read the Minutes it is a bit of a long winded way of achieving this and I wondered whether any kind person had any thoughts as to why my friend cannot access the Minutes direct from the web site.

Thank you for reading this.

Every time I open a document I get the same message:

C:\...\desktop\name of my document.doc is being used by my name. Do you want to make a copy?

Then I have 2 choices, OK or cancel. When I click on either one the document will finally display.

There are no other users on this computer. it's not a major problem. Just a nuisance. But does any one know why this might be happening? And how to fix it maybe?

I have attached a picture of the error box. Yes, I chose as my registerd name Dell Client.

If I have a Word 2003 document (or two or three) minimized and I open an additional Word document, one of the minimized windows restores itself. It seems to be the document that was opened most recently.

In any case it results in an extra window being shown on my screen and I was wondering if there was any way to turn this 'feature' off?

I tried it on multiple computers and they all behave the same way.

Office Pro v. 11.6113.6360 on Windows XPsp2

Thanks much!

Rikku,

for what it's worth I get that also!

and sometimes, when I double-click a word doc to automatically open it in Word, it opens minimised in the task bar and I have to click it twice to reveal it - the first click looks to open it and minimise itself again.

I have a user who when he opens Word documents that were originally created using one of 2 specific templates is told that they are locked and in use. If he just choses the read option he can use them as normal.

He is running Office 2007 on Vista.

This question sums it up and offers a perfectly good solution:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Office_Suites/MS_Office/Q_22680348.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+lock+templat+word

My problem is that he has been happily creating hundreds of documents for months and really doesn't want to do this with each one. Does anyone have any idea how to perform one big super fix that will fix all the docs?

The templates were originally created in Office 97 I believe and have been upgraded a few times.

This issue only happens with Vista and not XP running Office 2007.

What I have got is a word document and an excel document.

The excel document is used to enable a userform which a person can fill out.

The word document is used for the details of the user form in excel to be transferred to the word document.

I have created the forms and the word template and i am looking for a way the following can be done when the "SAVE" button is clicked on the user form in excel.

1) Have the details from the user form transferred into the word document at the top where the corresponding headers are.

2) The word document file name automatically created(using the issue title in the user form) and inserted into the excel sheet under issues for it to be reopen and viewed in Microsoft word.

I know it would be simpler to have all this in one form but the idea is to get someone to fill out the issue only then someone of higher authority can update the issue's progress but still allowing the issue creator( or any one else) the access to re-open it and see the updates in a read only format in word.

complicated i know but that's how its got to be.

attached are the word doc and the excel doc

(See attached file: Issues Log new.doc)(See attached file: new sample issues log.xls)

Thanks

Greetings: when opening a document from email, I get the following message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close." then, "The following add-on was running when the problem occurred -- file: pdf.ocx. Company Name -- Adobe Systems. Incorporated. Description -- Adobe Acrobat Control for Active X. Protocat -- Hyper Text Transfer Protocal with Privacy. Type -- Com/WAM/MSGATTACHMENT?."

Then a window pops up from Adobe Reader:
"There was a error opening this document. The file is damaged and could bot be repaired."

It seems that when a considerable amount of time passes as the attachment is opening, is when I get the message. I am able to open some pdf files.

In the last few weeks, I've started getting this message every time I open Microsoft Office Word 2007:

"Do you want the following program to make changes to your computer?"

It's identified as Microsoft Word from Microsoft Corporation, but there's no other explanation.
If I select "yes", everything goes normally, but I'm wondering "Why?"

A:message on opening Word

I need to add to my question:

What comes up when I click "yes" is usually a blank Word screen.

If I close that, I may find another message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."

If I don't close it but use the pull-down "OPEN" command and browser, I can get the document opened.

I hope it's obvious that all this happens when I just click on the icon for a Word file and expect Word to open, rather than opening Word first.

Thanks

A:Low resources message when opening ms word 2000

Word can be a bit of a resource hog.
It might be sensible to check and see if you have any unnecessary programs running, which could also be wasting your available resources.

Go to START, Run and type MSINFO32
On the left of the window that opens, choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Select the list and copy (CTRL + C) and paste it in a reply to this thread (CTRL + V).

I (or someone else) will look into the programs you have running and let you know if there's anything you should get rid of.

This may not be the solution to your Word problem, but it's a good idea to have a clear out anyway.

No matter what I try and create, the 'blank' document always has these 6 print screen images in the document. Is there a way to get rid of these in my blank document template?

I work at a small accounting firm and earlier this year we purchased some new laptops which run 64 bit Windows 7. Since then, we have started to upgrade Office on our computers. On one of the Windows 7 computers, I installed Office 2010 last week. We also use CCH's program ProSystem fx Engagement. Now, when opening Word inside of Engagement (not sure if this happens outside of Engagement because the user can't recall it happening) an error occasionally comes up which says "error creating obj document." The user hits okay, which is the only option, and then receives a second error that says "obj document is nothing." She then again selects okay and moves on. It doesn't seem to cause any issues with functionality so I'm not rushing to fix it but we want to get rid of the errors and hopefully have an idea of how to correct it in the future.

Please keep in mind I'm a CPA helping with computer issues. Since we are relatively small, we don't actually have our own IT department or person. We have to go outside. I do pretty well keeping my home computer up and running if I can research the issue and find a solution. I've looked for a while and can't find a solution in a dumbed down language that seems to fit the issue.

I have a Windows XP.

Could not open a PDF document with error message: "There was an error opening this document. A file I/O error has occured"

A:Solved: repair PDF document that has an error message

1. Decipher the exact reason the PDF is not working. This is less difficult than it sounds. Simply open the PDF file and note the exact reason that the PDF is not working as shown in the box that pops up (e.g. "Cannot find or create the font..."). If you can, click and drag over the reason why the PDF is not working, right-click with the mouse, and copy that exact phrase.

2. Go to adobe.com, click the "Support" tab on the top of the screen, click on "Adobe Reader," and then select the "I can't open a PDF document" statement underneath "Troubleshooting." Paste the exact phrase you copied earlier into the search box on the right-hand side of the Adobe Support screen. Click "Enter."

3. Click on the "Adobe Troubleshooting" title that most closely matches the phrase you pasted into the search box. For example, if you paste "Cannot find or create the font..." into the Adobe Search box and select the one option available, you will receive specific directions detailing how to fix that particular problem. Follow the instructions you receive.

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

A:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

I've got a template in my Word documents that I reuse often and today when I was entering new information there were several error notices (that little gray box) "Microsoft noticed an error and must close" and even though I re- opened and I saved it - now when I open the document the font is completely different (HUGE) and it won't allow me to change it. Before I create a new document and copy and paste it correcting the size difference to the new one is their way to bring the document back to the way it was before?
Thanks!

Sorry - it seems that the error that was caused by Microsoft closing only affected the document when I accessed it through "start". When I opened My Documents - it opened the correct version. Sorry I didn't check that before posting!

I have two questions regarding documents created in Word 2007...

1) Can links be created within a Word document? For example, can I click on and item my table of contents and have the document jump to that particular section of the document?

2) Also, is there a way to make sections of the document hidden until the user clicks a specific word or graphic in the document?

I'd like to specify a particular instruction and include a "Show example" link that would make a detailed example appear for those who needed the extra help.

Thanks everyone!

A:Word 2007 - Links within a document? Hide/Show sections of a document?

If you created table of contents through References - Table of Contents, you can hold Ctrl and click on the item in that table, word will take you there. This feature is standard.

Also, to navigate inside document you can use bookmark option.
Insert bookmarks. Word 2010 Bookmarks
Then insert Hyperlink - in the window select second tab "Place in This Document" and choose your bookmark.

As for hiding parts of document, I do not think that is possible.
You can create that in HTML document with javascript, but not in Word document.

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
appver 9.0.0.3822
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

Hi all.

The other day whilst in the throws of fixing another unrelated problem I came across a strange and annoying Word Document problem.

When I bought this word document up it present a very unusual icon. It was grayed out and part of the title contained a ~$ then the name of the document.

When I tried to open it, the word document only opened up to the gray page just before it should turn white displaying the text, and there it froze.

Nothing worked after that! The freeze was so bad that the only way to close the window was to turn the computer off at the tower.

After rebooting I tried it again 2 more times with the same problem freeze occurring in the Word document.

Today I again found another document that caused the same problem, this time the icon for that document was normal but right beside this icon was another malformed grayed out ~$(name) icon.

When I tried to open either of the 2 icons I got the same freezing up problem, just as before.

I tried a previously suggested step in that I opened "Word" and from there navigated to where the bad files were located.

In turn I only hi-lighted each, and at the bottom of that window clicked on the arrow for the drop down box.

I was advised that one of the presented options was to repair the file. No such option was present.

So there you have it. Any advice on this problem please?

Regards

A:[SOLVED] Word document freezes computer and document is corrupted

Hi all.

Just to advise that I am going to mark this topic as Solved......to a fashion so to speak.
I may resurrect it at a later stage if the problem re-presents it's self.

In a nut shell. I spent a lot of time today searching sites and performing tests including searches on my computer program.

I ascertained that all the aforementioned "defective " Word documents originated in the same folder. After performing several search functions with the criteria as ~$.doc no other such files were found on my computer, other that the already mentioned.

All tests suggested would not repair the said documents.

I have now deleted the offenders and I will monitor the situation. If I run into problems again I will re-post.

Thanks anyway.

This might be kind of tricky.

We're trying to streamline our RFQ-to-Quote process, which currently utilizes a combination of digital forms and hand-written forms passed among several departments. My boss asked me to modify the RFQ form to save him some typing (because he has to retype all the information in the final Quote), and I--not understanding the complexity of the process--very stupidly told him that it could be done fairly simply using form fields and bookmarks. He's been kind enough to grant me a lot of leniency because for him anything would be better than the current situation, so as long as I can improve on what we use now, he'll be happy.

I thought about creating form templates for each of the departments, then as the original RFQ circulated from one department to the next subsequent forms would be appended to it to create a rolling document. I'm not too happy with the that idea; there's all sorts of room for user error. I thought about creating a single document template containing every department's form, but a) I don't want any single department to be able to modify information gathered during another department's process, and b) certain departments must generate a variable number of copies of their form.

I told my boss the best way to accomplish a secure and low-maintenance RFQ-to-Quote would be to create a stand-alone Quote Generator application, but we both agree the effort is not condusive to the timeframe by whic... Read more

Hi,

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. I have tried to open a similar document and choose save as to see where the document would have saved but this does not seem to work in Windows 7. I have tried looking in my 'temp' folder but this is empty.

Does anyone know how else I could retrieve this document? It is the only version i have...i really ought to have looked after it better!

Thank you in advance,

I have tried to open a similar document and choose save as to see where the document would have saved but this does not seem to work in Windows 7. I have tried looking in my 'temp' folder but this is empty.

Does anyone know how else I could retrieve this document? It is the only version i have...i really ought to have looked after it better!

Thank you in advance,

Sandra

No problem this is an easy one.

Go to search type in back up and restore Pick a date prior to your problem. And then like magic, everything is back the way it was when life was good. This will affect all your personal documents, but not system settings.

but first try this one. Go to search pick a phrase that is in your document and it should appear.

Hi,
I have problem, when I put link to .XPS document in MS word document, i can't open this link, nothing hapens , links to other file types works fine. XPS document opens without problem with IE when opening file from folder. I tried to lower security setings in IE hidden security zone "my computer" , but this wont help. There is no problem in Windows 7 with xps links. But i need it to work in Vista. I think it's some kind of security problems. Any ideas ?

Hi guys, I just started my first job last week and my boss has a problem which noone in the office has been able to solve, if I can solve it, I would undoubtedly make a very good impression, no?

Now, he has w2k installed on his laptop (formatted NTFS), with a network share (also NTFS) on a 2000 or NT4 server - I'm not sure which. When he opens an Excel document that is saved on the share, Excel opens but the screen stays white and he has to end the process. When he opens the file again it works just fine and the document opens.

They first tried reinstalling Excel, then Office, and then they formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows, so it can't be the software or the OS on his machine.

If anyone has come across this or a similar problem, or has ANY ideas, please let me know, it would be so much fun if the new blonde girl can show 'em all

Simple permission problem. right click file and "take ownership". May have to do that in safe mode (F8)

I've just upgraded from W7to W10 today and have done some tweaks to the system regarding all those privacy issues. Now I've installed Ms Office and when wanting to open Word, I was greeted with this

error screen.
Why is that? How should I configure my system? This error is just usless. It doesn't tell me anything.

It's usually critical to know exactly which version of programs are involved and which version of the OS is installed. With Office there's a suite version such as Office 2010 and each application inside the suite have a version number such as Word 14 for Office 2010. Then for each version of the programs there is 32-bit or 64-bit and the OS can be either 32-bit or 64-bit. The 64-bit software can't run on the 32-bit OS.

I have a client with a problem creating new documents from the File > New > Word Document dropdown from Windows Explorer window. If I set her default font to Times New Roman it will stay for creating new documents from within Word. If she goes the other route mentioned above to create a new document it will always default to Courier. Also when she tries to save the document with the Save As item it defaults to txt instead of a .doc file. I am thinking there are two different templates for these two seperate ways of opening or creating a document.

OS is XP Pro
Word 97 SR-2B

Thanks!

I'm creating a document in word 2007 at one point of the document I want to insert a link or icon that points to a separate word document, when the master document is saved both documents are saved as one file so that i can distribute it to other people not linked on a LAN. I don't need the second document to be seen but launched on a separate window when the link or icon is clicked.
Can somebody please help I've seen this on emails and PP presentations but I'm not sure if it can be done in word, I would think so!

Thank

Not hard at all. Open the attached - I have included the instructions to show either the other text (or at least part) or just the icon.

A:How to repair PDF document that has an error message " A file I/O error has occured"

Does your version of Acrobat reader or pdf reader support the document's format?
Can you attach the pdf file to see or does it contain sensitive data.
Have you googled for this error?

Posted the message below under Windows XP forum, but now think it should be here.

I ran a virus scan and found the following

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp - error opening [4]

and have tried looking on the net to find out how to resolve this or what this is without much luck. I am not good with computers so if anyone could help me resolve this I would appreciate it very much.

I have many WP8 files I created that when I try to open them, they give the "convert from MS word 97" dialog box, and when I say ok, fine, I just get "illegal operation" and the program shuts down.

they were created in wp; why can't I just open them in wp? Why are they asking to be converted from ms word? Is there something I can do about this?

thanks

A:Why do Word perfect files want to be opened in MS word?!!!

You still have WordPerfect installed?

If so, select a WP file, then with the Shift key held, right mouse, select Open With, scroll to WordPerfect, select it, ensure that "Always use this program ......" is selected, and OK your way out.

I've done a bunch of searching on these forums (and elsewhere) and found a few suggestions on how to fix this error, but I can't seem to find a solution that works. I just upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and I installed Office 2007. The programs themselves work fine - but whenever I click on a shortcut to either a Word or Excel doc, I get the following error: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." The program will open, but the document won't. I can easily open the doc from the program once it's open, but it's annoying to always have to do two steps (and to see that error) The big solution I keep seeing (for Excel, at least) is the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" option and to make sure its unchecked (which it is).

Any ideas what I can do to fix it? I haven't tried any other Office programs, so I am not sure if it's all of them, but it's quite odd.

Sounds like your association has been screwed. have you tried to repair the Word installation? How to install the individual 2007 Office features or to repair the installed 2007 Office programs
