Uninstalling demo software

Q: Uninstalling demo software

Good evening to everyone out TSG land, my problem is that last week I installed a software demo program, and after looking at it I went to uninstall it and got a message that read "Unable to locate the installation log file."

Now on my desktop I have about 20 icons of various parts of the program that I can't get rid of. Any suggestions as to how I would go about getting rid of the program would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have an idea to make a few tutorials for users on my www site and I am after some advice as to which might be the best application to use to create such things.

I want to show screenshots, mouse movements, clicks etc... and have this able to be shown back to the viewer in a pleasing and aesthetic manner. Having never created anything such as this before, I have no idea which software I should be looking at.

Any pointers for me please?

Hi,

I'm looking for a an either cheap or free program that allows me to create demos and tutorials on my desktop. You know, those programs that record my desktop, highlights my clicks, record my voice and so on.

Any recommendations?

I'd search google, but I don't even know the keywords to look for ("demo software" is too common)

I installed a plugin Java runtime environment. I have uninstalled it from control pannel, but i am wondering is it totally uninstalled or is there still traces left such as in the registry.

if so how do i remove it totally of my system

A:Uninstalling software

More than likely there are still traces of it in the registry. the only absolutely surefire way would be to reformat and reinstall windows. but that would seem rather extreme to get rid of someothing that shouldnt really cause you any problems.

I run MS Win 2K Pro with IE 6 SP2.

My ISP offered me the opportunity to speed up my dial-up connection for next to nothing. To speed the connection up I needed to d/l some of their software, which I did and then installed.

Well, the speed-up just didn't happen so I decided to get rid of the software I'd installed.

I now find that I can't get rid of one folder containing a dll file. When I try to delete it directly (using Windows Explorer) I'm told the file cannot be deleted because it's being used by Windows.

How do I get rid of it, short of asking my ISP?

Thanks in advance.

I have recently switched my dsl services. I am having trouble uninstalling all the Verizon software, including IE provided by Verizon. I have gone to add/remove, but there is no Verizon listed, yet when I do a search it is still in my system. I called them and they were of no help, probably because I canceled my service. Also, when I went to Network Connections, highlighted Verizon, it only gives me the option to delete not uninstall. Please help! Thank you!!!

A:Uninstalling ISP software

I think you'll find that, in most cases, whatever software your previous ISP gave you, it simply re-names/re-badges what would otherwise be generic.

I know several ISPs in Australia adopted this practice, but gave up after a while because most people binned the "Network Connection Installation CD" as a waste of time.

For example, as you say, "IE provided by Verizon" would simply be a program that "re-badges" IE - i.e. sticks a logo other than Microsoft's on your IE browser. There are a few web sites that give instructions how to do this with any bmp image file. Google : "internet explorer" change logo.

As far as the network connection goes, I would suggest that the icon labelled with Verizon is simple the generic network logo, otherwise probably called simply "Local Area Connection" on a lot of other computers.

I once used an accounting program called 'Sage' which is quite a large program. When I try to unistall it (through add/remove programs) nothing happens at all, and sometimes it makes my computer freeze. Is there another way that I can remove this program? It might be similar to programs such as 'quicktime' which are hard to remove?

I tried to uninstall the first one and now when i turn my computer on, it says this application
has failed to initialize or it has initialised in a weird way and it has been terminated
but I uninstalled it so I dunno whether or not i should uninstall the 2007 version or what?
What do I do now?

A:Uninstalling Antivirus Software (help)

Does the Internet Security 2007 still start up fine?
It might be that the first one did not completely clean up during the uninstallation, and so there is something that tries to open it, but the files are gone.
If that's the case, you could always try to delete this startup entry by going to Run>msconfig>tools, and look for it. (be careful not to delete anything critical. Try researching each one if you are not sure which one it is) Spybot S&D also has a tool to look a tthe startup items that's a lot easier.

Hello, my name is powerblo. I am posting to ask your opinions on how to completely uninstall programs. I was installing 3ds max 2016 on my computer yesterday, and now that I try it today it wasn't working that well. I tried to delete the program and reinstall it to fix the problem, forgetting to properly uninstall it. Without using the uninstall tool or the control panel, I deleted the file only by mistake. Today, I opened the autodesk installing program and it said that the program was still there! I was sure that I completely deleted the folder, so I checked my control panel. I went to delete the program, but it said there was an error and the program wasn't there. It asked me if it would take it off the menu, so I accepted. Now, the program file is nowhere to be seen and there isn't a way to uninstall the program. Yet, the weird installing programs STILL thinks that 3ds max is still on the system. I've tried out the autodesk uninstalling program and it didn't even show up there. Anyone can help the problem?

A:Software deleted yet not uninstalling

Try a system restore, should have one from right before the original install yesterday.

I've decided to deep six all my Norton software. I'm running Norton Systemworks 2004 on my desktop and 2005 on my laptop.

I will NOT tamper with my registry. I simply don't have the smarts or the confidence to do that. I know many of you are way smarter than I am and would have no qualms at all doing that. But not me!

So I'm left with only a couple methods, and I'm curious which you all think I should use:

1. Control Panel/Uninstall only
2. #1 plus manually searching my entire hard drive, using R-click Start/Explore and finding and then deleting everything I can find that contains the word Norton or the Word Symantec

or

3. The uninstall routine available from Norton's website.

Comments, please?

Thx

It won`t appear in Add/Remove Programs if your son uninstalled it
Why do you think you still need to uninstall it?

CC Cleaner will just have found some orphan entries left behind after the uninstall. If your son really DID uninstall it and then you ran CC Cleaner you should be OK to install the newer version

I''m new in this forums. Not sure if this thread is the right section for this. Just lemme know and/or move this topic if it's not.

I just tried reinstalling a program by uninstalling it then installing it. It asked me restart after uninstalling but I didn't and proceeded with installing it. I have yet to have issues with it, but is it okay to do this? Won't I have any problems later with this, like an important file getting deleted as scheduled after I restart or something?

A:Install same software after uninstalling it

When you uninstall a program there can be parts still left in memory or in a cache somewhere, so many programs prompt you to restart, which clears that out. In addition, if a program was uninstalled because it had a problem, if you reinstall without restarting you can still have the same problem.

I'm having the same problem. The best I could do was disable everything in the 'manage add ons' section under tools. I disabled it then noticed there were several aspects that also needed to be disabled.

After that I tried to uninstall ad annihilator via more than one uninstaller and still no luck.

Edited to Add: I found Revo Uninstaller. It got rid of it completely.

Hi all,
I was helpng a friend the other night, he has an HP computer with a Lexmark all-in-one, fax/scanner/printer. He was rolling along in good order, all of a sudden, he was unable to write a letter on the PC and then send it to the fax. I thought the first thing to try would be to uninstall the Lexmark software, then reinstall. however, the unistall from Control Panel did not complete, it got about halfway and locked up the computer.
any ideas on how to do the uninstall, then reinstall?

A:Problem with Uninstalling Software

Try uninstalling in Safe Mode. If you get a message that you can't uninstall because the Windows Installer Service is not running, then Run: msconfig. Turn off all startups except services. Reboot and try again.

If it got only part way, it may not uninstall. You may have to reinstall (to get the uninstaller back in working order) in order to be able to completely uninstall the driver/program.

I have an hp dv9700 laptop running vista home premium 64bit. My current problem is not being able to uninstall Windows Media Player. I have uninstalled it from remove programs and it is not detected in Windows Installer Clean Up. I have searched for any files that pertain to Windows Media Player...there are none. But for some reason my computer thinks I have it installed. I can't install WMP again because it says I already have it installed but I can't find any files (even hidden) that pertain to WMP.

That problem was discovered initially because iTunes doesn't recognize my cd/dvd burner ( I wanted to see if it's just iTunes). My burner is an Optiarc BD ROM BC 5500A by Sony. I can't find any drivers for it newer than 2006 and Vista says they are current. My burner worked just fine before...I had it fixed while still under warranty but now they want 80 bucks just to discuss the problem. The problem started with the CD drive disappearing from My Computer and not reading CDs...which I got to work...and now it won't burn. AGH!!

Does anyone know how to delete idea of WMP or get my burner working? Both HP and Vista support pages have been unhelpful (unless of course I pay for it which I can't afford)

A:Problems Uninstalling Software

Hi Alkene, welcome to the forum. Question: When you say you've done a "search" for WMP --- have you done an "Advanced Search" and included all files/folders --- not just those that are indexed? If you haven't try it now --- Make sure you set Advanced Search to search the 'Entire Computer' and click the box that says "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files." Also, up in the toolbar, be sure that 'All' is checked.

When you search, search Windows Media Player and WMP, and also search any other keywords you think might be in any of the files and/or folders.

You can delete any files and folders that are found, right from Advanced Search, but be very careful that you're not deleting needed files or folders that have similar names to WMP, but are actually needed to run your system properly.

Hi,

My laptop lenovo T5300 with Win7 Ultimate (32 bit) was pretty ok and had both firefox and chrome.

But my DVD drive is having issues and it just doesn't detect all ( with some, it works fine). So it install a new s/w, I used a portable DVD drive. Software was authentic and a simple one ( to write in Indian languages with regular key-board)

BSOD started. Booting was fine. If I just browse it was ok, most of the time!. But if I open 3-4 documents together, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA with win32k.sys crashes started. Code was 0x00000050.

I even removed Firefox completely because I saw Firefox/nss3.dll message for unrelated applications. Made chrome as default browser.

Checked for all expert looks. Nobody agreed that it was due to external DVD drive installation. Ultimate suggestion was REINSTALL because it is OS issue!

But I had a strong feeling about drivers of my laptop. Once I updated my mobile phone drivers and after that mobile phone is invisible for laptop.

As a final try, I just removed the new s/w (external drive installed) and the problem was solved.

What is the cause?

So I want to make my laptop robust for all external devices/drivers. Any clues?

I have a bit of problem with my PC running XP Pro SP2. So I have to restore it to an earlier time. After the restore, I notice that my Roxio Easy Media Creator was not working well and I manually deleted all the files for it in its folder. But I had to undo my restore cos it didnt solve my earlier problem. After this, i notice that Roxio is not working properly again. I tried to unistall it using Add/Remove Programe but it keeps giving an error message that a file is missing. And every time i copy and paste anything on the PC, a message comes out 'Windows Installer' and it will keep trying to install back the Roxio. This happens almost every 5 mins. The Roxio is still showing on the Add/Remove Program list. I cant uninstall it from there and I cant use it cos i have deleted all its files. I tried to install it again using its CD but it gets to a point that it tries to remove the old one and it shows the messages again that it cannot locate a file (Easy Media Updater). So the installation roles back.
How can i remove this program, is there any software out there that can assist in removing corrupt programs.

Have you tried uninstalling the unwanted file in safe-mode?

Tap f8 key from start-up to bring up a menu that offers 'boot into safe-mode'.

If not, try this:-

Hi,
Go to the directory where the software is installed and manually delete the folder.

That may leave unwanted registry details behind so you will need to clean the registry using ccleaner from ccleaner.com or use revo uninstaller from revouninstaller.com

Please backup complete registry before cleaning the registry just in case of problems.

For any clarifications please feel free to contact me.

Hello,

This could be the wrong place to post this, but I'll give it a try anyway. Unbelievably I just tried installing a (Pool) game that was most likely originally designed to be played on Windows 95 (from an old disc that my wife still has laying around the house). However, I am running Windows Vista on my laptop, and of course it did not work. I should have known that it wouldn't. Anyway, all I wanted to do afterward was uninstall the program (after it only partially installed it), but it wouldn't let me. Here is the error I received:

The log file ‘C:\Program Files\Intrplay\VPoolW\DeIsL1.isu’ is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue.

Can someone please explain to me exactly how I can finish the uninstall process? That would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

I had installed Orcad lite software on my computer. The folder that it was installed in was accidentally deleted, and it is still listed under the add/remove programs list. I cannot uninstall it, it gives an error, "Unable to locate install log file C:\Program files\OrcadLite\Uninst_R92lite.isu". I no longer need the program, and I just want it completely uninstalled. I no longer have the CD because it came with a textbook, but before I sold it back, I had tried to reinstall it, and it failed.

Also, I have another entry of jointmediagroup codec under the add/remove programs. This was due to spyware, which has since been removed. When I try to uninstall it, it gives me a 'Error loading the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\aeihghaj.dll. The specified module could not be found' error. The file is one that was deleted during the spyware removal procedure.

Can someone please help me figure out how to handle these two problems?

I am trying to uninstall the printer software on my computer so that I can reinstall it thereafter because the printer does not work anymore. When I try to uninstall I get the following message: "during set up an unusual execution has passed. Set up is now being closed".

I think that something went wrong when the software was installed the first time altough the printer worked fine for several years. System restore worked a few times but not anymore.

Can anyone help me with this problem? I would be very grateful for any help that can be offered and many thanks in advance.

I've recently downloaded several DVD burners to try out which is better, failed on my quest, I've decided to uninstall all of the softwares and deleted left overs manually, Spybot Search and Destroy found Birose or something on one of the softwares, I did check up on them before installing. Despite this I'm now having crashes after the incident. I've included my Hi Jack This Log and please help me if there is anything bad in my log.

I recently purchased a new HP Laptop and am in the process of uninstalling all the HP bloatware. I am fairly familiar with the stuff HP adds but this Energy Star software is a new one. I have a 1yo HP Desktop and it wasn?t there when I got it new a year ago.

I have Googled it and read what is out there but I still can?t lock in on what it actually does. It seems to provide some power configurations from what I have read. I did see one reference that said it might be difficult to remove through Programs & Features and while that doesn?t bother me as I do all software removal with REVO Pro Uninstaller, I know from previous experience that some of the HP add-ons can be difficult to completely uninstall.

Looking for some feedback from anyone that has actually uninstalled this software.

Thanks In Advance

A:Uninstalling HP Energy Star Software

After hunting around more today I still could not find any specific info as to what this software actually does. This morning I even posted the question on the HP Support Forum and have had zero replies and that is the HP Support Forum so I am inclined to think that it doesn't do much if anything.

The uninstall with REVO Pro Uninstaller was too quick for it to be much of a program and I have not seen any changes or a hint of a problem.

I'm trying to clean up some unused programs on a Win 7 machine but after I removed "AnyProtect by CMI limited" then "CWA Reminder by We-Care" but when I went to uninstall the next unused program and no matter what I try to uninstall I get an error saying "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" and the program cancels the uninstallation process.  I've checked msconfig and it says that Windows Installer is stopped.  Any ideas how to fix?

A:Problems uninstalling unwanted software

Welcome,
Have you tried
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/revo-uninstaller/
It usually gets the job done.
Just be careful. PUPs that protect themselves that well may be hiding something worse.
You might consider visiting the Am I Infe3cted forum and let one of the trained volunteers there walk you through the steps necessary to make sure your system is clean.
If REVO doesn't do it, post back and I can ask one of the moderators to move the thread so you get the help you need and they can see what's been done.

"Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" does not mean your computer is infected. It may be corrupted, you may be missing certain values in the registry, and it could also be a problem with permissions.

Hi,

I have never uninstalled paid software (that uses a long Activation code) before in order to use it on another computer, but that's what I want to do now.

I need to do it with Photoshop (from my old PC to my new one) and with MS Office (from my old laptop to my new one).

But what I don't understand is: How do these companies know that I have uninstalled it from the first computer?

Could they not just think I'm trying to have the software on several PCs?

(I know you're allowed MS Office on up to 3 devices, but it will be 3 in total when sorted).

I just want to uninstall everything properly, so I don't get in trouble or have any hassle.

Is the process straightforward?

thanks

Hi

I have tried to uninstall some old Epson 1200 Printing Software from my colleagues PC to enable me to install a new printer.

Whenever I try to uninstall it from Control Panel> Add and Remove Programmes I get a message that says "Setup cannot allocate working memory. Close all applications, exit Windows and try again".

I have also tried installing the new software without removing the old but get the same error message.

I have tried all the above in Safe Mode as well with the same error message.

The new printer works in every respect except that the ink levels do not appear, just blank inkwells. In msconfig there is an entry "Epson Background Monitor" under the startup tab but no Epson Status Monitor appears to be installed anywhere in the system.

Can anyone throw any light on this problem.

My lexmark wifi printer wasnt working so I uninstalled the software thinking re-installing would solve the problem. Now, whenever I try to re-install the Lexmark software, as soon as it installs the uninstall option (part way through loading the application and I know this as it updates as installing) it starts to uninstall itself. I have tried countless driver sites but they all have the same issue. Is this a Windows 7 issue?

Alright, this has been an ongoing issue for awhile now, maybe around a month or possibly two. As the title states, I get anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 whole minute system hangs during an installation of either a game or software, but only with certain ones. It doesn't do this with every install, only some. This will either happen once or multiple times during the installation. Example: I just installed nHancer and it hung about 6 times, making the entire install take about 15 minutes, with brief moments that I could use my computer. It should be noted that I'm a gamer and these ONLY happen during installs. Games, benchmarks, file transfers, and anything else operates completely normal. It's ONLY installs (or uninstalls) that makes these lockups happen. So it's not my hard drive, it should also be noted this is happening to a friend as well, same OS, Windows Ultimate x64, but he does not have SP1 installed, and I do. When the hangs occur, my system will look completely normal, and the start bar still animates when you move your cursor over it. Programs will look like they're fine until you click on them, this includes the start bar. Once you click, anything that looks like it's operating normally will completely freeze. Example: Firefox could be displaying a .gif, and as soon as I click, the application freezes, all buttons are unresponsive and the image is stuck. This is only per app, so to actually have the freeze happen I need to click on the program, or use a shortcut i.... Read more

A:30s to 1m long hangs when installing or uninstalling software.

Have you tried turning off Avast's realtime protection temporarily and see if that is impeding on things? You also are not having any other anti-spyware/malware software enabled at the same time, are you? This can cause unnecessary instability with your PC as they will fight over each other on trying to scan items that are read or loaded.

For a more thorough investigation, we'll need to isolate the scenario and determine background operations that are occurring while the hang pops up. You can help us with this by doing the following:

1. Grab Process Explorer. It is essentially a very beefed up version of Task Manager. Run it and then sort columns by CPU or CSwitch Delta. Watch it during the hangs and see if there's any unusual behavior that pops up. Also note any spikes in the graphs. You can double click any of the graphs to bring up its own window where you can hover your mouse pointer over spots in the graph and it will give you details on what is causing what in the graphs.

2. If that is doesn't show up much, then close Process Explorer and grab Process Monitor. Don't run it yet. Instead, start closing stuff down until only the bare minimum is running that will be needed to cause the hanging. The less stuff running in foreground or background, the less cluttered the log will be from Process Monitor, and it'll be more streamlined for me to pinpoint cause.

Once that is accomplished, you'll want to start running Process Monitor then click the magnifying glass "... Read more

Greetings,

I'm observing increasing cases when my OS crashes during install / uninstall process. In last case Pot Player which is not intrusive installer at all and didn't cause any instability before (no drivers or kernel libraries).
It says Kernel Security Check Failure or something such.
Trying to find out by BlueScreenView which loads no crash info.
It seems it may be some problem in registry because the crash occurs right when setup is registering thing into system.
I have several questions:
- what can cause blue screens during software installation?
- how can I verify registry from coruption or rebuild them?
- can I get instructions to make a sufficient BSOD dump and post it here?
Thanks for any helpful info.

chkdsk c: /f - negative

sfc /scannow gives an error (not sure if relevant for the Windows crash). I attach log file.

Code:
C:\>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For

Hi There,

Being a complete novice to VB Scripts I have an issue that i could do with some help.

In a site that I manage, we have been asked, due to corporate rethink, to remove Kaspersky Anti‐Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0.4 from all work stations and to Install Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1.3001. Also the decision was taken to use VB scripts to implement this change.

Now, here is the problem. I want to run a GPO logon VB script that will remove Kaspersk using msiexec, reboot the pc and then, at next logon, install SEP from a network share via an MSI file. To make things worse, there is a 32bit and 64 bit version of the SEP software, and the script needs to determine the architecture of the Windows so that the correct software is installed. The script must continue to run when Kaspersky has been removed to install SEP, but must not run when both conditions are met.

I know that a txt file can be created on the local work station once a certain condition is met in the VB script and the existance of this txt file can trigger the rest of the script to complete or Quit depending on the condition. However, as state above, I'm a complete novice at VB scripts and have only managed to create part of the script that removes Kaspersky:

Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
' Kaspersky Anti‐Virus for Windows Workstations

WshShell.Run msiexec /x {8F023021-A7EB-45D3-9269-D65264C81729} KLUNINSTPASSWD=xxxxxx

I have just hooked up a Canon MX320 printer. Everything seems to be working fine. Is it a good idea to uninstall the old Canon printer/scanner software? Should I use any special precautions? How do I remove all evidence of the old printer and scanner? Thanks.

A:Solved: Uninstalling old printer/scanner software.

You can leave the old program if you want to be able to use your old printer. If you want to remove it go to control panel, add/remove programs and select the program to remove it. IF you want to make sure there is no evidence of it - go to My computer, local drive, programs, there may be two Canon folders or one with both programs in it. If there is two the old one might be empty or there may be no evidence of it at all. select and del. what you don't want.

Hi

Though not always, but most of the times when I try to install or uninstall legal software my windows7 (see specs below) reboots as the in/uninstall process starts. I checked for viruse/trojans/malware etc with various software and they have found nothing. Trying to go to safe mode doesn't work either. On my computer this should be F8 (for boot menu). But this shows me a BIOS-like screen whereby I'm asked to choose from which Hard drive/DVD I want to boot from. The following keys, Delete, Esc, F2, F8, F10 and F12 do not take me there either. I need to do so manually via msconfig.
I had thought the problem may have been a new Antivirus software I wanted to try WebAware but it wasn't. Their diagnostic tool showed that according to my system log I had many hard drive errors. A windows checkdisk on the other hand seemed to fix nothing. There appeared to be no errors. (Is there another 100% trustworthy similar software to check and fix windows exist?). Regardless the problem continues to exist.
Any advice?

Planning to try some freeware backup imaging software, I wonder a couple of things.

I have 11 GB full of a 30 GB hard drive and for storing practice imaging backups, I have a new 32 GB usb flash drive. Is this enough, like would compression be enough to make this type of medium a useful choice? What kind of compression could I expect of the backup image files, if any?

What about uninstalling the backup imaging program if later I decide I do not want it/them anymore? Has anyone had any trouble uninstalling these? I plan to try Macrium Free Reflect, Paragon, and Clonezilla.

In any case, I plan to test or try these on an old laptop with Windows XP sp3, 512MB RAM, 2.0GHz Celeron Processor, (11 GB full of 30 GB hard drive).

I have accidentally got WIndows AV software on my computer which appears to be fake rogue anti virus.
Symptoms of these sort of programs seem to be fake scans, asking you to install stuff and then asking you to purchase licenses and scare you.

I need to remove it and found http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-av-software which describes what to do

However the resolution it suggests for removing windows av involves installing lots more programs (RKILL, Shell, Malwarebytes),
it then runs a scan and finally suggests you purchase a licence: "consider purchasing the PRO version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to protect against these types of threats in the future."

These instructions sound just like what the original fake rogue program was doing - ie infecting my computer and then trying to charge me.
How can i tell if it's safe to follow these instructions and install this software, or if i'm just giving my computer more viruses and corrupting the registry?!

Don't know what to trust! would really appreciate your advice

THanks

Recently I made a decision to quit paying for Avast internet security and go back to Norton. In the process of uninstalling Avast, a box pops up saying to finish the uninstall you must restart the computer so I checked ?later? as I wanted to get the Norton installed and protecting before I restarted. When I tried to restart my computer, a box popped up saying Windows could not restart and would try to repair, then it came up saying Windows could not repair and it went into a loop between these two things. I could not turn off my computer and the only way to stop this loop was to unplug it which I did. It said I had a corrupt file and the Problem Signature for 1 & 2 was 6.1.7600.16385, Sig 3 unknown, Sig 4 21200445, Sig 5 AutoFailover, Sig 6 8, Sig 7 Corrupt File, OS Version 6.1.7601.2.1.256.1, Locale ID 1033. I tried restarting using F8 and safe, and F8 safe with command and both would go immediately into this same loop when Windows started going across the bottom of the screen. One time a box popped up and asked me to sign in as Owner but it wouldn?t accept my password. It also wouldn?t give me a chance to put in my ID as the box would only say OWNER. I really need someone?s help. I found this site after Googling ?trouble restarting computer after uninstalling Avast software? so have faith in your help.

hi all
i recently changed my keyboard from a logitech g19 to a roccat isku. i uninstalled it using ccleaner. however the service UMVPFSrv still kept running at startup. i have disabled it from starting up though. also the gamepanel software still shows up as installed in revo uninstaller but it wont uninstall. it does'nt show in control panel though. i cant remember which version it was. i think it was the one b4 the latest but it may have been earlier.
could anyone suggest the best way to remove all traces of logitech software?

any help is much apreciated as always.

A:problems with uninstalling logitech gamepanel software

Take a look in services and see if part of that program is still running; if so disable it. Sometimes this has to be done in Safe Mode. Go to device manger and remove or disable any thing concerning this program. After part of a program has been removed another removal program might not be able to find it anymore even though their are little pieces left over. Revo is a great little removal program. If it can find it it will remove it. As all programs that remove things you must be careful. Tick the wrong thing and it will be gone. Another great little program I use if things still are not gone is Search Everything. Using the search function at the top of the program will find anything in your computer and in most cases can remove it if it is not running. Again be careful what you remove. Once the program is gone disconnect the old mouse and or keyboard and connect the new one and reboot.

Hello,

I inherited my desktop PC and I'm trying to "clean" it of programs I don't use. When I remove programs, I seem to have undesired random effects i.e. windows components/utilities disappear, files disappear, programs won't open. So far, I've only uninstalled known programs I definitely don't use. There are also quite a few programs that show up in the "add or remove program" that I don't know what the heck they are.

#1 I would appreciate any input regarding this matter.
#2 Does anyone have suggestions on how to learn more about the function of the programs on one's computer and how they may or may not be necessary? I've had difficultly finding info on this.

Thank you, George

I uninstalled Roxio Sonic software from my computer because it was supposed to be not compatible with Vista and I never used it. Ever since doing this I lost my CD/DVD burner from Windows Explorer and I had an explanation mark in Device Manager. I fixed this by performing a registry edit to remove UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys from HKEY_LOCAL_SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC108002BE10318} re. another forum and Microsoft. This brought the drive back and it burns well with Nero 9 but now Itunes 9 gives me the No Recording Device found/drivers missing--reinstall Itunes error. The suggested uninstall and reinstall of Itunes does not fix the problem and a repair of the program has the same result.
I found a thread in your forum written by gcuneo2 dated Dec 29, 2008 #4 referencing this problem in Vista which involves installing Gearsoft drivers and recreating the UpperFilters value in Registry. Would this fix my problem in WinXP? Thanks very much.

I would read through the instructions--twice. Print them out. Copy from the Apple KB article and paste the new registry values you'll be using into a notepad document and double check them--it'e much easier and more failsafe to copy the values from the notepad file than to type them.

Then try the fix, after you've twice read the warning at the end that you may not be able to use the other cd burning software after fixing iTunes.

Keywords: Uninstall Hawking HWPS12UG Print Server Utilities

Problem
When uninstalling the Hawking Print Server Utilities, you receive the message 'HAWKING_PS-P1 still in use! Please release the port before to complete uninstall Network driver'

Cause
You have a printer defined in your system (in Control Panel, Printers and Faxes) that is using the port named HAWKING_PS-P1, the port to which the Hawking Print Server Utilities' Network Driver is assigned.

Solution
Setting the printer concerned offline does not help.
Deleting the printer concerned does not help.Deleting the port HAWKING_PS-P1 (using the Printers and Faxes window's menu option File, Server Properties, Ports tab) produces the error message 'Selected port cannot be deleted. Operation could not be completed.'
After rebooting the system, deleting the port succeeds.
After deleting the port HAWKING_PS-P1, the uninstall of the Hawking Print Server Utilities succeeds .

I have a strange problem - I was uninstalling some HP printer software, and all the files, programmes, shortcuts and folders (except for recycle bin and computer) from my desktop disappeared, the 'All programs' menu went blank (the programmes were still installed though, they were on 'my computer'. There was no crash, the computer restarted OK. I did a system restore.

After system restore the folders, programmes and shortcuts on the desktop re-appeared. The files did not. Also other files have gone (like savegames), FireFox has forgotten all favourites and settings, Microsoft Office needed to be re-registered.

No programmes have disappeared, and IE remembered my homepage. But not saved passwords. Microsoft Word has remembered 'Recent Documents', although when I click on the file it is not actually there.

It's like I'm not logged in with the right user account. But I'm logged in with the one I usually use.

Does anyone have any idea what might have happened, and how I could get the missing files back?

since the restore returned you to that date I suspect the files and folders were created, or modified after that date and not included in that restore point.

There are some 3rd party apps for recovering deleted files ( one is recuva), but short of that I dont know how you would recover them

Hi,
I need some software for windows 7 (If it isn't already built in Windows) that would prevent anyone (Even administrators) from deleting any files I created (Even if they aren't in my Documents folder) and to prevent uninstalling programs

And something that would prevent a shutdown by any user If I activate it and require a password for instance to unlock it (I know the PC can be turned off in other ways, I just need something like this)

A:Software to prevent shutdown, uninstalling programs and deleting files?

Any attempt to restrict what someone with an admin account can do is doomed to fail. By design all administrators are equal. Any program you can install, any setting you make, can be reversed or circumvented by anyone with an admin account. This is by design.

I have NAV 2004 installed. Two weeks ago, updated it using LiveUpdate, and it has ceased to operate. Purchased NAV 2007, tried to install it, but NAV 2007 directs me to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs. I have tried to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs, to no avail.

I am aware that I could use Norton's Removal Tool, but I am assuming that this would also uninstall Norton Partition Magic 8.0 -- and I've lost the installation CD (moved twice since then) for Partition Magic 8.0. Does anyone know of a way to uninstall NAV 2004, but leave Partition Magic 8.0 intact? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tony

A:Uninstalling NAV 2004 w/o Uninstalling Norton Partion Magic 8.0

I would take a look at the 'tool.' You may be able to select what you want removed. S/N has changed itd recommended removal procedure many times. Below is the link to their currently recommended "tool.' It may or may not be the one you have in mind.

Having made a removal attempt otherwise may compromise the operation of the 'tool.' S/N has another 'tool' that is supposed to overcome encounterted problems with the primary 'too.'
So it goes with S/N!! They really don't want their "stuff" removed.

Run The Windows OneCare Free Scan (on-line scan)To run the Windows One Care Free ScanGo to Windows Live Onecare Free Scan site using Internet Explorer. It will say "Get a free PC safety scan"http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htmMake sure you click "Full Service Scan" in the middle of the page and not the "Try It Now Free" offer on the right side.Allow the download of an Active X component.Choose "Complete Scan" in the window that opensClick "Next"Do not click on anything else that offers you a free trial or to sign up if you live in the US.Allow it to scan - it may take quite a while, possibly two hours or so depending on the size of your hard drive is and how fragmented your registry and drive may be.After completing the Windows OneCare Free Scan run both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, updating each program?s malware definitions before you reboot into safe mode to scan and allowing both to fix what they find.If you do not already have these freeware aps installed on your computer, you can get them at the following sites:*AdAware SE: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html*Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlFollowing that that I suggest you post a ?HijackThis? log in the ?Hijack This? You know, I really hate these statements. You need a *DX10* card, doesn't have to be a 8800. Well, at least soon it won't need to be a 8800.

Also, "teh beauty"? One, you can use DX10 features in OpenGL through extensions. Two, how does DX10 make it more beautiful? For example, Crysis will run on DX10 AND DX9, and in whichever mode you run it you will have access to ALL the eyecandy.

Is it just me or is call of duty 4 the shortest ever demo ... seriously?

A small firefight, take out a few tanks, take out some resistance, blow up an AA gun and call for air support and it's over.

One and a half gig download for 15 mins ....if.

I played through it once...didn't really like it.....played it once more and thought maybe I was a bit hard on it and it was OK.... and then uninstalled it.

What is even worse for this game is that there was no multiplayer at all and when you compare this to other demoes that came out recently..ET:QW and world in conflict .. well I was disappointed.

I was looking forward to this game and now probably won't buy it ... roll on brothers in arms and UT3.

Hello.
I understand that this post may be deleted because I am asking for a way around a password. I have had my posts delete on support websites already, but i thought it was worth another try.

I was wondering if there is anyway of bypassing passwords on windows vista? I just bought an ex-display PC, but for some reason, PC World hadnt reformatted so it was a clean start for me to use. So now im stuck with a PC that has a pc world demo account, that is passworded. I basically have no way to get onto the PC.

I tried pressing F8 on start up, and selecting the repair PC option, but I still need the password for the PC world account. I have contacted the support guys, but they are telling me to take it back to the store. I would like to find another way around it if I could before I have to take it back. (Its pretty hard for me to get there cos i cant drive)

Any help would be appreciated. The PC is a Dell XPS.

As with other forums that you have mentioned - it is also against the rules of this forum to help with any illegal activities.

I would advise that you take it back to PC World and let them deal with it as it is basically their error/problem.

Bioshock has received many great reviews - the trailers/TV ads looks quite good... and its using the new Unreal3 Engine....

So far, I am not impressed with a game that can't even start.

First, I have downloaded two different versions of an Offical Demo from reputable websites... Each version is 1.9GB in size! For such a well funded game and lots of TV marketing (Unreal has never been on TV) - the first DEMO creates a crappy game setup folder like this:

<drive>:\BioShock_PC_Demo_FF\raid10\temp\manager\nfdekpwgaj\BioShock PC Demo

WHAT IS THIS GARBAGE?! Unprofessional... Anyways, near the end of the install, the Windows Installer window POPS up, showing various optional instructions you could choose - for the Installer - means nothing.... only OKAY button is available anyways. The game says its installed. Click on the ICON and wow, an error pops up saying:

''This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstall the application may fix this problem''

I redownloaded a version from the offical site, the installer is not 5 sub-folders deep, but the game still refuses to run.... a lot of people are having this same problem.

So after 4GB of Downloads, 4 installs... this "cool" game is useless.

Next... This game has severe DRM... you are allowed ONLY 2 installs of the game. After that, your disc that you paid $50 is dead. Well, you can UNINSTALL the game and regain your "credit" - b... Read more

I've downloaded the Crysis demo about 4 times from different places.

Each time it finishes downloading I go through the installation process. Once the installation process is done and it says it was successful, I go to play the game but there is no shortcut. In fact there's no files on my hard drive (other than the download file). I've tried rebooting, with no luck. I can view the Add/Remove Programs list, and it's in there, but the game is nowhere to be found.

Is this a problem with Vista? Or was I just really unlucky and dl'ed 4 corrupt files in a row?

Thanks for any help!

I just downloaded the FEAR SP demo and it installed properly, but when I try to play it it crashes to the desktop before it even gets to the first screen. If I go into the config and disable sound I can play, but not with the sound on. So not sure what else to check..any info can appreciated!

Thanks!
