Reinstalling Word 2002 and Microsoft Works 7.0

Q: Reinstalling Word 2002 and Microsoft Works 7.0

I don't know what I did, but I no longer have Word or Microsoft Words 7.0 or Microsoft Publisher on my computer.
These are the disks I have:

Microsoft Works Suite > 5 disks and MS Office XP and another one called Office XP Small business.
Can anyone tell me (step by step and easy for a dum-dum to understand) how to reinstall?

When I look in add/remove programs from the Control panel, MS Works 7.0 is gone as is Word 2002 as is Publisher. All the others in the Suite are there.
When I click on the desk top shortcuts or from the start menu, I get this popping up (see attachment) for Word and Publisher.

Thanks in advance

I am in Works 7.0, and have installed PictureIt, Encarta, Money and MS Word 2002. I can launch all of these programs from the MS Works Launcher, with the exception of MS Word. When I try to launch MS Word, I get the following error :

"The Works Launcher cannot access the task you selected. Files needed to start the program may be missing, corrupted, or may have been deleted. " (etc.)

There is not much help online for this, and what there is seems to refer back to issues with Norton Anti-virus. Problem there is that I don't have Norton installed on my PC.

I am running this under Windows 7, and have tried "run as administrator", as well as running it in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Andrew Fortune,

I have just built a laptop using a ghost image now everytime I open word its as if its the first time it has been opened - running the Windows Installer - Preparing to Instal screen........

I have used this same ghost image on a number of laptops all exactly the same spec and had no trouble.

I know the simple solution would be to just rebuild the laptop but I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

I have run a detect and repair from word - no joy.

I have recreated the reg keys for word in both user and local machine - no joy.

any ideas would be helpful...........

I ran into this too. I believe that version of Word has some 'install on demand' features. Go through the installer again and check that each feature is marked to install, not install on demand.

Can anyone tell me for sure if I reinstall Word, can I save my autocorrect file, macro file, and my custom dictionary file? A Gateway tech told me there was no way to save them & that when I reinstalled, I would lose them. But I don't believe this. Can't I isolate those files some way, rename them, and then after I reinstall, rename them back to the new file names? I can't afford to lose all of the words & phrases I have added to these files.

A:Reinstalling MS Word 2002

Autocorrect entries:;en-us;269006&Product=offxp

macro file:
If your macros are stored in, then just save a copy of it. If they're stored in or some other file, just save a copy of the file.

Hope it helps.

On bootup of my Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP 2, lately I have been getting this message box; the title of the msg box is "Microsoft Works Suite 2002 Setup" and the msg reads "To run the Works setup program, double click the Setup icon on the Works CD." There is a button below that reads "Exit Setup", which will get rid of the msg box. This is annoying as it happens on every bootup. I can't seem to find where this msg could be originating. There is not anything in my startup files that pertains to Microsoft Works, although a couple of months ago my Norton antivirus found a trogon infected file named "WkDetect.exe", which said it was not needed, so I deleted it. Every time I remove it from my startup entries, it always somehow re-appears there again. If I could find out where I could download that file I would reinstall it in the Windows\System\ folder where it originally was. I don't know if this could be the cause of my getting the above msg on bootup or not. Any help would be appreciated...

When I go to run Microsoft Word it always starts with an old document I wrote a couple years ago. How do I fix this so I get the normal blank screen? When I click on new or blank screen the same document pops up.

A:Microsoft Word 2002

In Word, there is a default template that all new documents are based on. In your case it sounds like that template has accidentally been saved when the old document was created.

Easy to fix.
Close Word.
Using Start - Search, look for all occurrences of ""

Make sure you have enabled searching of hidden or system files.

If you do not find at least 1 instance of the file, you have not set the options correctly, it will exist.

When you find the file, delete it/them.

When Word next starts it will create a new clean "" file with standard default settings.
All you will lose is any specific default settings for Word that you have made, just redo them if you need to.

Secunia PSI tells me that Microsoft Word 2002 is insecure. Threat rating is category 4, HIGH! There is a Download Solution button provided, but I can't access anything when I click on it. Then I have the situation below and I wonder if that is the same item as this one in PSI.

Windows Update gives me an important update of 52.3 MB and it is Office XP Service Pack 3. I have tried to install this item 3 times. It runs to a certain point and then tells me that I have to insert the disk. My system is OEM and I don't have any disk. So what do I do?

A:What do I do with Microsoft Word 2002

Although not certain, I believe the two problems are related and actually are describing the same problem - the fact that the program is not fully updated.

Check out the following article: Service packs, updates, and security patches may require the Office XP CD-ROM. More information is here: Download details: Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3).

But perhaps of greater importance, Word 2002 is not compatible with Vista: Windows Vista Compatibility Microsoft Microsoft Office Word 2002 and that may be part of the reason you are having troubles with it. You need to upgrade to a more recent version.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

How do I delete a saved file in the document recovery task pane in Microsoft Word 2002. I have clicked on my documents and deleted it there. I have also clicked on more documents in the recovery task pane and deleted it there. When I right click on the saved doc. it says What's this. Please help.

A:Microsoft Word 2002

I have Word 2003 but I assume it's pretty much the same.

That list is populated based on what you see when you click on File in Word which shows the last documents that you opened (Recently used file list). Deleting a document doesn't remove it from the Task pane but you won't be able to access it since it no longer exists. All you need to do is open existing documents until that particular one no longer shows in the list.

If you don't want that many to show you can change it by clicking on Tools - Options - click on the General tab and change the number there.

okay, i have another question that has stumped me and the company that wrote the NewsKing software, so i figured i'd ask it here.
we are using the most recent version of NewsKing here at the TV station (newsking is a piece of prompting/closed captioning/other assorted News related bits software), and whenever we restart the machines for any reason, newsking stops talking to MSWord 2002, or rather, the other stuff on the NewsKing toolbar stops working. What i mean by this is that the SOT inserts and other assorted News Script inserts stop working, like, you can insert them, but instead of them popping up teh dialoge box that they're supposed to, where you can edit how long the SOT is or how long the video rolls for or which anchor is speaking and so on, word inserts them and then autodeletes them because it appears to no longer be finding the data for how that inserted object, or whatever the NK software inserts are. >.<

i realize that this is a kind of specialized question, but since the newsking company can't seem to answer it i figured that someone out there in the huge community that makes up the Tech Support Guy forums, someone else might work at a small TV station with a tiny budget and may have found an answer to this particular question.
Thanks in advance

I've been having this problem for a little while now. When it first occurred, I didn't think it was much of a big deal. I just assumed that it was a temporary problem and that it would eventually go away. Unfortunately, the problem hasn't gone away yet. It keeps occurring. It doesn't occur everyday, but it occurs every few days or so.Here's the problem: Sometimes, when I open Microsoft Word, it won't open. A box pops up telling me that the feature I am trying to use requires me to install it with my Microsoft Word installation CD. So whenever this problem occurs, I have to go get the Word CD and insert it into the CD-ROM drive and it installs whatever "feature" it says that needs to be used.I'm not sure what's causing this problem, but it is very annoying. I upgraded to Office XP SP3 and I also used the "Detect and Repair" feature from the Word Help menu, but none of this has seemed to help. Is anyone else having this issue with Microsoft Word 2002? Does anyone know what could possibly be causing this? I really would like to get this problem fixed permanently so that I won't have to keep having to get the installation CD. I also used the same installation disc to install it on my mom's computer, and it does the same thing on hers also. What can be done to fix this?(Moderator edit: post moved to more appropriate forum. jgw)

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.
I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bother you with this. I've been searching all day for a fix but has no success at all.

I've got Office 2002 installed on my new system. Previously had Office 2000 and things worked fine.

Since the install, Microsoft Word will not open .doc files when double-clicking on them from their file locations.

In fact, when I try to select Winword from the list of applications to use when attempting to open the file, it doesn't work at all. For some reason it will not come up in the recommended programs list.

The only documents that it will open with no problem are .rtf, which will open upon double-clicking.

However, when I open Word from the start menu (which works fine) I am then able to open the .doc documents from there -- which is infuriating!

Thank you for reading, and I'm hoping someone will have a good idea whats wrong.

Thanks again.

I was having all kinds of problems with my Microsoft Word 2002 program (crashing, stalling, etc.) so after trying everything possible to get it to work I thought I would be better served by deleting the program and re-installing. I have the Microsoft Works Suite 2004 and used the disc to install Microsoft Word 2002 and Picture it! After installation I tried to open some Word Documents but my computer wouldn't open them in MS Word. It's as if the program wasn't installed. Picture it is there, but not Word. If you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel it shows that it is installed, but the program seems non-existant. Not located in Program Files...nowhere! If I try to use the disc to install it again from the disc it won't show as an option to install because it thinks it is already in the computer.

I'm using a Dell computer with Windows XP. Can anyone help?

The problem is, word docs can be opened under three other usernames, but when my boss(administrator) logs onto the computer and tries to open up a word doc for his business, that is the error message he gets. What does he need to do to correct this? This is the second time this has happened. He had the problem fixed(don't know what they did, but they charged him $40.00) and now, here we go again. I opened up my Microsoft Word 2002 program and it informed me that I needed to install something with Microsoft Works Suite 2006 disc in order to run Word. This was the first time this has ever happened to me, and I didn't understand why it was happening. So I got the Works Suite 2006 disc with Microsoft Word 2002 on it, and I installed it. After I installed it, everything was fine, so I didn't think anything of it.

Well today, I ran the SAS scan on my mom's computer. There were only some adware tracking cookies on there, so I had SAS to remove them.

A little while later, my cousin opened up Microsoft Word on my mom's computer, and it also informed her that she needed to install something with Microsoft Works Suite 2006 disc with Word. So I came to the conclusion that it must have been the SAS scan that is causing this. I just started using the SAS scan days ago on my computer and my mom's computer, and suddenly this problem happens where I have to run the Works Suite disc and install something from it to install Word completely. This is weird and I don't know exactly what's causing it, but I am pretty sure that the SAS scan has something to do with it. Our Word programs didn't have this problem until after I ran the SAS scan.

Can anyone help me out with this? How can I prevent this from happening? I don't want to have to run the disc everytime I open up Word on our computers. What could possibly be causing this?

I have tried and tried and tried again to no avail trying to attach my resume to my email. but when i do, they cannot open it. So I do my resume on the untitled document and "save as" file type Word 97.doc. and attach it. They can open it but the structure of the resume is all out of wack. They ask me to send it on Word. I got a copy of MS Word '97 from a friend and went to install it to my computer and got the following message:

Windows system 32 autoexe.NT
The Subsystem file is not suitable for running Ms-Dos and Windows applications. Choose to terminate the application.

now everytime i try to install anything, like reinstalling my HP scanner, i get the same error and it wont let me install.
Could someone please explain to me what is happening to my puter.. please speak in lamest terms, i am not a genious with this thing, if it was up to me, my HP would be in the backyard and get the 10 buckshot salute!

I've got Word at work and the Windows XP(home edition) Works word processor at home -- but they don't seem to be compatiable when I bring a disk home with a Word file.

Any tips?

A:Microsoft Works and Word -- compatible??

In Word 2000, there's a Save As Works 2000 option. If your file is anything other than very basic, you'll be prompted that "some features may be lost". I just tried it with a Word doc containing a table (Works WP files doesn't do tables), sure enough it came out pretty screwed.

You could always download OpenOffice for use at home -- it opened the file (Word version) no problem.

I bought my computer in 2008ish, maybe 2009, and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It also came with pre-installed software, and of those pre-installed software included Microsoft Works Word Processor. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit last week, and I have been painstakingly installing my programs back after I messed up the installation. First, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, then I realized I put in the wrong disc so I then put in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, then I upgraded to Ultimate 64-bit. All my programs got messed up in the process and I basically have a clean install of Windows 7 with a Windows.old folder containing my programs in a folder, which all need to be re-installed. I can see my Microsoft Works Word Processor, but it won't let me run the installation on it. I tried running it in compatibility modes for every available option, but nothing works. I also ran it as an administrator. How can I legally re-install these programs I purchased? I have tons and tons of .wps files that I want to be able to open with a program I purchased with my computer. Yes, I have heard of OpenOffice and it does not support .wps files. I do have Microsoft Office Professional 2013 installed, but it can't seem to open .wps files (unless I'm wrong).

A:Microsoft Works Word Processor

Microsoft Office 2013 is capable of opening Works 6-9 documents in a Compatibility mode.

To do that in Word 2013 you need to go File - Open - Computer - Browse.
In Open window you have to select a filter:
All files (*.*) or Works 6 - 9 Document (*.wps)

Hi Everyone,I did a quick search of the forums and didn't come up with anything similar to the problem I've just started having with MS Word.I'll be working on a document and saving my work every so often. Then all of a sudden Windows starts telling me that it can't save the file. I goofed and didn't think quick enough to get a screen shot of that message. However, I was able to copy past everything, from the document I was trying to save, to a new document, which is what I did as I had already had the same thing happen to me a couple of times before. Then when I clicked 'Yes' I get "This" message.OK, so then I click 'No on exit to close the document and got "This" asking if I wanted to save the changes to the document. Then I Just click No because that's the only option that will let me close that application. Then when I try to open it again I get "This" dreaded message.Have any of you guys ever run into anything like this before? It doesn't seem to matter if the document only has ten pages or if it has one hundred ten pages. Nor does it seem to matter if I have a lot of images in it or none at allI am at a loss as to what to do to prevent this form happening in the future. At least I have a work around that I can use so as not to lose my entire document..., but this is still just a bit nerve wercking. Thanks for any help or advice guys.Wendy

I suspect DEP isnt turned off or it wouldn't be able to "shut down word". You can however, simply add word to DEP's exception list and it will ignore it.

(no clue how it got lost)When I go to My Documents I can see all the files from history but I cannot open any of them. When I try to open a file it directs me to buy Word Perfect(R) 11 software with an upgrade to Word Perfect 12 for $99.00. Should I buy the software? Is there a way to move the files back into the Word Processor history? Next to each file in My Documents it says WPEntrust Signed Document.

A:Microsoft Works Word Processor History

MS Works has nothing to do with Word Perfect! MS Works is related to MS Office. If you are looking for your documents, have you tried launching Works and going to File/Open to see what is there? Perhaps you had a trial version of Word Perfect in your computer, too. If you like the word processor in Works, perhaps you should upgrade to Word 2007 instead -- Word is a much larger, more diversified program than the abbreviated version in Works.

Big mistake. Now when I open the word processor program it comes up as the envelope function and I cannot get the original page for letter writing back. Microsoft was no help when I accessed their web page (too far over my head in their explanations as well as being not too user-friendly for my level of understanding). Does anyone know how I can get it open the right way again? I use Window's Vista on an Acer Extensa 5620. Thanks.

A:Solved: Microsoft Works Word Processor

This only applies for the Works word processor, the common one in Works NOT spelled with a capital W, as in Word.

First, only do this with the Work word processor not going.
If you really only want one default word processing template in Works (and it sounds like you do), and if you have no other templates that you want (and it sounds like you don't) then you can just delete all templates in this folder:
Then, just start up the word processor and see if it is fixed.

If that is not the case, just let me know and I will adjust and tell you what else you can do, instead.

Hello, I'm not very good with computers so bare with me please

I am a university student and today when I went to open my class notes in Microsoft Works Word Processor I found nothing but a blank page. The file was still there, with the exact same name, but all the text was gone. The document contained 15 hours of lecture notes needed for an exam in 6 days, so I'm naturally pretty anxious for help. I have since turned my computer on and off. I have tried converting the file to rich text format and back, to no avail. The size of the document says a mere 16 kb now as well.

I opened the seemingly blank document with notepad, and found a bunch of jargon along with 2 interesting clues. One was very small pieces of my class notes here and there, in between the coding and jargon. The second was towards the end of the coding, where it said various random things about my HP printer. I did perform a printer test today, and was wondering if that did anything to delete or corrupt my notes.

I performed a system reset back to 5 PM (the file appeared blank at 6 PM, when it said it was last modified). The file is still blank. I have also checked through the recycle bin, nothing. I've got Windows Vista, and my computer is a Gateway Notebook, 5 months old.

These notes are very important to me and my grade in this class. I have backed up material from 3 weeks ago, but with 3 hour classes i would still be missing a lot of material >_<. Any help is much appreciated, than... Read more

Hi there guys.
Okay so here's the issue.
I have an HP Pavillion a813w that had Microsoft Works pre-installed on my computer.

Now, I just did a roll back, totally reformated my computer on April 10th to total factory settings once more, so my computer is relatively unbuggy, or so I thought.
However, when I was sent a document from a friend today via AIM, and I scanned it with my virus scanner, it was clean. It had me say yes, I agree to the EULA, and then as it was loading up, it just seemed to disappear, I couldn't open up the document, and I have tried rebooting, and restoring both and it would do nothing.

I'm wondering if there's a reason for this..

I'm trying to figure this out, first time I've ever had Works do this, before I reformated that is.

I have a Study Guide with questions in Microsoft Works Word Processor and I wanted to fill in the answers in a different font and color. But every time I click the question I want to answer, it automatically changes to the font and color of the question. So I have to type the answers and then highlight it and change the font and color manually. I have a ton of questions to answer and it is getting to be really time consuming to have to go back and change them all manually. Is there a way to set the font and color to be locked and never change even if I click a word or line that has a different font and color?

Just like Word, each area can have its own font and other settings.

You are going to have to put up with this, as the author did not set up the study guide to be used in this manner.

Hi. I'm helping my grandparents with their new laptop and am showing them how to use the Works Word Processor. For some reason, after the first time we send something to print with multiple copies, it will only ever then print 1 copy even when you specify you want more. Has anyone come across this before and know of any solution, as its very annoying to have to print single sheets each time! Thanks in advance

Hello. I have Microsoft Works Word Processor.
I have a Vista operating system.

When I open up a word document to type,
I want it always to open with another font and size,
not the current one. (times new roman).

It is hassle to change this everytime, and then it goes back to times new roman whenever it wants.

I cannot find out how to do this.
I cannot even find a "preferences" in case that would work.
Any suggestions?

Each day, the first time I opening 'any' existing Microsoft Works Word Processor file that I have, such as ones I have for phone numbers, addresses, etc., I have to wait about 45 seconds for the file to open. And while I'm waiting, I can't do anything else on the computer. Any of those files I open the rest of the day, open immediately. It's just the first time each day. Any solutions?

A:Delay in opening any Microsoft Works Word file 1st time each day..

Nobody????????????????? else has this problem. Really? All I have to do is google it and get a dozen items show up, all with no solutions from Microsoft whatsoever.

Windows 7, on a Dell XPS, plenty of ram, plenty of hard drive space.

Not a problem with any windows program, on any computer I've had, since 'forever', until now! since I've ran Win 7 onto my computer.
