When I start Outlook (2002) Microsoft Word also opens. I tried unchecking "use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages"
This stopped Microsoft Word from opening but I lost the ability to format any fonts and also to use the spell checker for outgoing e-mails.
Anyone have any ideas?
Tks for your help
On your internet page go to --tools--internet options-programs--Which program controls your e-mail. If it's microsoft word change it to whatever your e-mail is--outlook express or outlook--etc
When you send an e-mail or receive one from outlook, by default it looks for the person in your contacts and puts the display name up instead.
But when reading the e-mail it displays
John Doe [mailto:[email protected]]
To: Jane Doe
How do you get rid of the mailto:etc, etc ??? I would prefer a hyperlink instead of the mailto because then it reveals the person's e-mail address.
I know you could just hover over it or click on the hyperlink to find out the e-mail, but I'm just asking for the purpose of printing. I don't want my e-mail address shown in a long stream of E-mail send's and replies between a friend when I print it.
If there is a setting in Outlook to turn this off, please let me know, I fooled around with everything and I cant get it to work.
Under "tools/options/prefrences/e-mail options/advanced e-mail options " You can select "automatic name checking" which I think will convert the mailto to a name if it is in the global address or contacts list. I don't know what that does to people you send to I would think it depends on their setting...
I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed and also the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack 2007. However, when I receive an e-mail with a Microsoft Word 2007 attachment, the document will not open even with the Compatibility Pack installed. I can not convert .docx to .doc. Any advice please?
Anybody able to help me with this please?

First, let me start by saying I am not an IT computer person, I have very basic knowledge (other than what I do for a living) about computers, and I really need instructions that are easy to follow, please?
I am a medical transcriptionist. I have hundreds of auto corrects on my current computer with Windows XP Word 2002 on it. I am needing to, if possible, copy the auto corrects from Word 2002 to another computer with Windows XP Word 2003.
I also have hundred of words that I have added to spell check that it would be great if I could copy those as well.
I do have a flash drive that I can save these to.
Can someone please help me in terminology and steps that a computer dummy can understand?
Thanking you in advance.

I am having issues with Word and Outlook 2003. I just upgraded them from 2000 and now I am running into a couple of issues. Help!
Microsoft Word 2003
- Can't highlight or select an area on my Word page with my mouse. I can use my keyboard, but that becomes quite annoying as you can imagine.
Microsoft Outlook 2003
- Can't highlight or select an area on my page with my mouse. I can use my keyboard, but that becomes quite annoying as you can imagine.
- Can't open Word document attachments only. I can open excel, pdf, etc..., but not Word.
I have restarted my pc, reinstalled office 2003, erased the normal.dot profile, removed the 11.0\Word\Data registry and no luck. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.
I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.
So what is the answer.
Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.
Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.
My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ive got an Outlook 2003 using Boss and a Outlook 2002 using Assistant who are having issues with sharing their calendar. The assistant is inputting appointment data into her bosses Outlook 2003 Calendar.
The issue is : The 2002 user puts in a whole day appointment on a given day (say 10/10/2004). When she opens her bosses 2003 calendar, the same appointment is still a whole day, but it stretches across 2 days (in this case 10/10/2004 and 11/10/2004). Both users use common Regional Settings (Australia).
Outlook 2002 user is at Office XP SP3.

I have Word 2002 and I've had no problems with it.
You may have to 'Right Click' on that bar and go customize that bar.
If that doesn't work you may have to reinstall that piece of software.
Hope this helps.
When I go to run Microsoft Word it always starts with an old document I wrote a couple years ago. How do I fix this so I get the normal blank screen? When I click on new or blank screen the same document pops up.
In Word, there is a default template that all new documents are based on. In your case it sounds like that template has accidentally been saved when the old document was created.
Easy to fix.
Using Start - Search, look for all occurrences of "normal.dot"
Make sure you have enabled searching of hidden or system files.
If you do not find at least 1 instance of the file, you have not set the options correctly, it will exist.
When you find the file, delete it/them.
When Word next starts it will create a new clean "normal.dot" file with standard default settings.
All you will lose is any specific default settings for Word that you have made, just redo them if you need to.
Is it possible to condense or consolidate a copied/pasted document in Word? In other words, if I copy and paste to Word several paragraphs that are broken up (perhaps one or two words only on one line), is it possible to merge them without copy/pasting every line of the document? I hope this is clear. Thanks for your help.

Hrm, I wonder if this counts as a CD key... Oh well, lets try anyway...
I have completely re-installed/re-formated my entire computer, yet, while doing so I (of course) lost every one of my programs, and now, when it comes time to re-install all my programs, I want to re-install Microsoft Word 2002.
Being me, I threw out my package of Microsoft Works Suite 2002 and now I cannot get the CD Key off of the Certificate.
If anyone/thing/person/animal/E.T. could help me that would be wonderful.
Also, I have Windows XP if that helps, and my mail is [email protected].
Thanks in advance,
Ring Microsoft and explain the problem.

Secunia PSI tells me that Microsoft Word 2002 is insecure. Threat rating is category 4, HIGH! There is a Download Solution button provided, but I can't access anything when I click on it. Then I have the situation below and I wonder if that is the same item as this one in PSI.
Windows Update gives me an important update of 52.3 MB and it is Office XP Service Pack 3. I have tried to install this item 3 times. It runs to a certain point and then tells me that I have to insert the disk. My system is OEM and I don't have any disk. So what do I do?
Although not certain, I believe the two problems are related and actually are describing the same problem - the fact that the program is not fully updated.
Check out the following article: Service packs, updates, and security patches may require the Office XP CD-ROM. More information is here: Download details: Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3).
But perhaps of greater importance, Word 2002 is not compatible with Vista: Windows Vista Compatibility Microsoft Microsoft Office Word 2002 and that may be part of the reason you are having troubles with it. You need to upgrade to a more recent version.
I hope this helps.
How do I delete a saved file in the document recovery task pane in Microsoft Word 2002. I have clicked on my documents and deleted it there. I have also clicked on more documents in the recovery task pane and deleted it there. When I right click on the saved doc. it says What's this. Please help.
I have Word 2003 but I assume it's pretty much the same.
That list is populated based on what you see when you click on File in Word which shows the last documents that you opened (Recently used file list). Deleting a document doesn't remove it from the Task pane but you won't be able to access it since it no longer exists. All you need to do is open existing documents until that particular one no longer shows in the list.
If you don't want that many to show you can change it by clicking on Tools - Options - click on the General tab and change the number there.

When I ctl-c a hyperlinked header and try to ctl-v paste it.
Sometimes I get a "not enough disk space"
Microsoft says there is not enough disk space - as if a few gig is not enough space for a 4.5 mb word file.
The structure of the document is tracking status of hundreds of items, and hyperlinking among them.
I use Heading 2 for item title and headder 3 for status, so I can easily see problem and status in TOC.
Different folks have different tracking numbers for ths same item, and the same task will go through different phases. I have different sections in the document to handle this, and hyperlink, using heading 2 normally. Dear Sirs: I am in need of your assistance once again. I have been trying to alphabetize a list of authors and books by last name first, second name last using Sort function. It wont let me sort! How do I do this? Please Help!).
Why won't it let you sort?
Did you select all of the data, then hit Table-Sort?
Alternatively, if you just want to get it done, copy the list into Excel, sort it, copy it back into Word.
For some reason, every second or third time that I use MS word, it's changed the defaults. It once showed paragraph and tab marks ... and now it doesn't. And now (yuck!) when I try to highlight some letters, it highlights the entire word. Etc. What can I do?
Is the problem only with new documents, or with existing ones as well?
I recently got a new Acer 5100-5840 laptop computer and installed my older version of Microsoft Works 2005 on it. Hi, I did something pretty stupid the other day when my hard drive went kaput on this computer. So I took the Microsoft Word 2002 CD and installed and activated it on my other computer which is connected to the same network as this computer. Well after I replaced the hard drive in this computer I installed the Word 2002 cd back into this computer and when I tried to activate it, it said According to our records this copy of Microsoft Word 2002 has already been activated on another computer. LOL Well I didn't realize your only supposed to use that with the original computer. Now I am screwed cause I want it back on this computer. Any suggestions?
Ring Microsoft and explain.
Tell them you had to install it temporarily on the other computer to get work done, and now its been uninstalled (and do uninstall it or it will kneecap you again).
I've been having this problem for a little while now. When it first occurred, I didn't think it was much of a big deal. I just assumed that it was a temporary problem and that it would eventually go away. Unfortunately, the problem hasn't gone away yet. It keeps occurring. It doesn't occur everyday, but it occurs every few days or so.Here's the problem: Sometimes, when I open Microsoft Word, it won't open. A box pops up telling me that the feature I am trying to use requires me to install it with my Microsoft Word installation CD. So whenever this problem occurs, I have to go get the Word CD and insert it into the CD-ROM drive and it installs whatever "feature" it says that needs to be used.I'm not sure what's causing this problem, but it is very annoying. I upgraded to Office XP SP3 and I also used the "Detect and Repair" feature from the Word Help menu, but none of this has seemed to help. Is anyone else having this issue with Microsoft Word 2002? Does anyone know what could possibly be causing this? I really would like to get this problem fixed permanently so that I won't have to keep having to get the installation CD. I also used the same installation disc to install it on my mom's computer, and it does the same thing on hers also. What can be done to fix this?(Moderator edit: post moved to more appropriate forum. jgw)

okay, i have another question that has stumped me and the company that wrote the NewsKing software, so i figured i'd ask it here.
we are using the most recent version of NewsKing here at the TV station (newsking is a piece of prompting/closed captioning/other assorted News related bits software), and whenever we restart the machines for any reason, newsking stops talking to MSWord 2002, or rather, the other stuff on the NewsKing toolbar stops working. What i mean by this is that the SOT inserts and other assorted News Script inserts stop working, like, you can insert them, but instead of them popping up teh dialoge box that they're supposed to, where you can edit how long the SOT is or how long the video rolls for or which anchor is speaking and so on, word inserts them and then autodeletes them because it appears to no longer be finding the data for how that inserted object, or whatever the NK software inserts are. >.<
i realize that this is a kind of specialized question, but since the newsking company can't seem to answer it i figured that someone out there in the huge community that makes up the Tech Support Guy forums, someone else might work at a small TV station with a tiny budget and may have found an answer to this particular question.
Thanks in advance
My wife is using this, SP1 and is trying to cut and paste business cards, whenever she does, it hangs up, any reason why this is happening or what I can do?
What operating system? How much ram? What other programs are you running in the background at the same time?
I have a problem with NAV 2003 and Outlook 2002 concerning a malicious script notification while trying to edit the contacts list. I have searched online for help, but to no avail. I ran a complete scan and no viruses. The malicious script notification says the file in question is outlook.exe . That lead me to beleive it was a virus but that wasn't it.
You could run an online scan here as well. Note that it is not uncommon to get a false positive with norton.
I opened up my Microsoft Word 2002 program and it informed me that I needed to install something with Microsoft Works Suite 2006 disc in order to run Word. This was the first time this has ever happened to me, and I didn't understand why it was happening. So I got the Works Suite 2006 disc with Microsoft Word 2002 on it, and I installed it. After I installed it, everything was fine, so I didn't think anything of it.
Well today, I ran the SAS scan on my mom's computer. There were only some adware tracking cookies on there, so I had SAS to remove them.
A little while later, my cousin opened up Microsoft Word on my mom's computer, and it also informed her that she needed to install something with Microsoft Works Suite 2006 disc with Word. So I came to the conclusion that it must have been the SAS scan that is causing this. I just started using the SAS scan days ago on my computer and my mom's computer, and suddenly this problem happens where I have to run the Works Suite disc and install something from it to install Word completely. This is weird and I don't know exactly what's causing it, but I am pretty sure that the SAS scan has something to do with it. Our Word programs didn't have this problem until after I ran the SAS scan.
Can anyone help me out with this? How can I prevent this from happening? I don't want to have to run the disc everytime I open up Word on our computers. What could possibly be causing this?
Would you post a log from SAS?1 more replies

I am in Works 7.0, and have installed PictureIt, Encarta, Money and MS Word 2002. I can launch all of these programs from the MS Works Launcher, with the exception of MS Word. When I try to launch MS Word, I get the following error :
"The Works Launcher cannot access the task you selected. Files needed to start the program may be missing, corrupted, or may have been deleted. " (etc.)
There is not much help online for this, and what there is seems to refer back to issues with Norton Anti-virus. Problem there is that I don't have Norton installed on my PC.
I am running this under Windows 7, and have tried "run as administrator", as well as running it in XP SP3 compatibility mode.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
I was having all kinds of problems with my Microsoft Word 2002 program (crashing, stalling, etc.) so after trying everything possible to get it to work I thought I would be better served by deleting the program and re-installing. I have the Microsoft Works Suite 2004 and used the disc to install Microsoft Word 2002 and Picture it! After installation I tried to open some Word Documents but my computer wouldn't open them in MS Word. It's as if the program wasn't installed. Picture it is there, but not Word. If you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel it shows that it is installed, but the program seems non-existant. Not located in Program Files...nowhere! If I try to use the disc to install it again from the disc it won't show as an option to install because it thinks it is already in the computer.
I'm using a Dell computer with Windows XP. Can anyone help?

Sorry to bother you with this. I've been searching all day for a fix but has no success at all.
I've got Office 2002 installed on my new system. Previously had Office 2000 and things worked fine.
Since the install, Microsoft Word will not open .doc files when double-clicking on them from their file locations.
In fact, when I try to select Winword from the list of applications to use when attempting to open the file, it doesn't work at all. For some reason it will not come up in the recommended programs list.
The only documents that it will open with no problem are .rtf, which will open upon double-clicking.
However, when I open Word from the start menu (which works fine) I am then able to open the .doc documents from there -- which is infuriating!
Thank you for reading, and I'm hoping someone will have a good idea whats wrong.

When trying to open up a word doc, the following error message appears: "Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." The problem is, word docs can be opened under three other usernames, but when my boss(administrator) logs onto the computer and tries to open up a word doc for his business, that is the error message he gets. What does he need to do to correct this? This is the second time this has happened. He had the problem fixed(don't know what they did, but they charged him $40.00) and now, here we go again. Microsoft support wants to charge 59.00, this is unacceptable. Please help!
try the following: per :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898512 this also applies to 2002
Log on to the computer by using an Administrator user account.
Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
Open the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\
If you are running Office 2003, right-click Opa11.dat, and then click Properties. If you are running Office XP, right-click Data.dat, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Permissions tab.
Click to select Everyone in the Permission entries list, and then click Edit.
Click to select the Full Control check box.
Click OK three times.
If these steps do not resolve this issue, delete the Opa11.dat file or the Data.dat file from the following folder, and then restart an Office 2003 program or an Office XP program
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
Hope this helps
I don't know what I did, but I no longer have Word or Microsoft Words 7.0 or Microsoft Publisher on my computer.
These are the disks I have:
Microsoft Works Suite > 5 disks and MS Office XP and another one called Office XP Small business.
Can anyone tell me (step by step and easy for a dum-dum to understand) how to reinstall?
When I look in add/remove programs from the Control panel, MS Works 7.0 is gone as is Word 2002 as is Publisher. All the others in the Suite are there.
When I click on the desk top shortcuts or from the start menu, I get this popping up (see attachment) for Word and Publisher.

I have Microsoft OUtlook 2002 that I currently use.
I woiuld like to update to 2003, I have a full version. When I went to install it the message indicated that I could not install it because there was already a previous version on the computer.
I can't go into add / remove becuase it is part of Micosoft Office Small Business package. I am also worried that I will lose the old emails, calender and contact info.
What can all of you suggest. Also because I updated WOrd to 2003 OUtlook can't find WOrd for the email editor and I don't know how to specify where to look.
You should make regular backups of your Outlook data. It's all stored in a .PST file.
You can uninstall Outlook 2002 by going into Add/Remove Programs and selecting Office XP. There should be a Change button. You change the installed components and can remove Outlook by unchecking that application.
Hi, I recently signed up for Verizon DSL and was hoping to use MSN Premium for e-mail. I tried to install MSN Premium numerous times unsuccessfully; I called tech support and was told I would have to buy Microsoft Office 2002 or 2003 to use it (I am currently using Office 2000 with Windows XP). Does this sound right? Is it worth it to buy a newer version of Office for the MSN email? I hate the Verizon email system and am hoping MSN is better. Thanks!

On one of my users machines, I changed from Outlook express to Outlook 2003 to give some of the bennies of 2003. When I did, all of a sudden the text area has started double spacing. The message shows up on the receiver's end correctly with the proper background etc. The signature is proper.
This user sends the copy to herself to make sure it has gone out and when she receives it, the text is double spaced and the background that she has chosen ends up as an attachment. I have found a statement about the signature from MS Outlook that she needs to edit her signature putting in "Shift Enter" rather than regular "Enter". When she receives it back, is there a possibility that this is what is causing the double spacing?
Tks for the help

Shift+Enter makes a LINE RETURN, not a Paragraph return. They are different in Word and HTML

I tried creating another profile and nothing. help!

I ended that process several times and following the stated procedure as above. Eventually it started working again. A few hours later the same thing. I really don't have the time to re-install office 2002 again and i don't think that a detect and repair will help. DOes anyone have some ideas to fix this problem. Also she needs to use word as the editor and html. I also know that she has a problem of keeping several e-mail messages opened at the same time either creating new forwarding and replying. I think this is the problem to this whole situation, but the stubborn user doesn't think this is the case.

At work we use Microsoft Outlook 2002, and one of the computer techs set up a calendar to be shared amongst everyone in our building. I can find the calendar, and I can add it to favorites, but I can't get it to come up as my primary calendar when I cilck on "Calendar" under "Outlook Today" (the tree menu on the right).
How do I select this calendar to appear as my default calendar when I open up Outlook, instead of having to open it via favorites?
Thanks in advance for any help!
As far as I know, you can't switch default calendars.
What you can do is add a new calendar which will appear side-by-side with your default calendar in the same window.
In Outlook, click File>New>Folder.
Give the calendar the name you want then select "Calendar Items" from the drop down menu in the "Folder Contains" box then click OK.
Next you'll have to map it to the new calendar's location.
Right click your new calendar and select properties.
Click the "Homepage" tab and use the "browse" button to the location of the new calendar, click OK.
When you open outlook today, click "Calendar" like you normally would. You will see the new calendar you created listed under "My Calendars". Click your new calendar and it will appear side-by-side with the default calendar. You can toggle between the two as well if you like.
The only drawback is that reminders only function in the default calendar.
I lost all my data in Microsoft Outlook and switch to Outlook Express. I had a lot of trouble that particular day, and was on the phone for hours and hours with Sympatico in India, they were trying to restore my email settings.
Where could I locate these lost files, such as: emails, contacts, calendar.
I am really new at trying to find missing files. I am now using Outlook Express, but I had so much data in the calendars going back three years, emails and contacts.
I have contacted and written Microsoft with no success. If you can tell me where to look and I found the missing files, could you also give me step by step how to get the info back into Microsoft Outllook.
By the way Microsoft Outlook is on my desktop but I cannot locate the program and files anywhere else.
Egad! I am so new at all this and any help would greatly be appreciate, but remember I am a real novice and locating and retrieving data.
Thanks, Jennifer Pet
Can you start Outlook?
If you go to the Control Panel / Mail icon, can you see where your personal data folder file was located?
How did you lose all you data in Outlook?
Do you have any backup from the past three years?

Izzy,Refer to my comment in your other XP Thread here > http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...pic=8840&st=0Try and keep all your additional reporting of comments on XP to this thread now.as it will help to figure out everything that is going on with your system. And again refer the HJT tech to these problems after their initial response to you.Unfortunately multiple posts/threads will not get your problems fixed any quicker. It may slow things down because of confusion inherent in such.regards,~Koan1 more replies
When I compose a message, or reply to a message, the email sits in my outbox and simply will not go. I haven't made any changes to the configuration. Also, I have AVG Anti-Virus. By the way, I already went through the Outlook troubleshooter and tried all of the suggestions. None of them worked. The messages are still sitting in the outbox. Thanks.

I can not get microsoft outlook 2002 to work when i try to open it I get this message:
"unable to open your default e-mail folders the .DLL file for the information service could not be found. MAPI was unable to load the information service PSTPRX.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured."
I have reinstalled outlook 2002 2 times and it still want work. Could you please help me out.
go to office.microsoft.com and install the latest service pack for Office.
See that works.
after security updates i can only open microsoft outlook 2002 in safe mode, it will not open in regular mode and after it tries i need to close it my stopping a nonresponsive application
Try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder. By default scanpst.exe can be found here;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<locale ID>
Try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook. The default location for this file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start-> Run window. The command line should look like this (check your path to Outlook.exe);
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /safe
When this works run Help-> Detect and Repair
Start in safe mode again and disable all add-ons in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced E-mail Options?-> button Add-In Manager?/COM Add-ins?
Start Outlook normally and see it works now. If it does enable them one by one until Outlook fails to load again. The add-on you last enabled is most likely the cause of your issue. Check with the vendor for updates or contact them for further troubleshooting their add-on
Try recreating the profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles?

I am using Outlook 2002. I used to be able to hover over a link in an email and the true address would show in a bar at the bottom of the screen. I can no longer do this. Is there a way to see the exact address before clicking on a link? Right clicking on the link does no good as the "properties" choice is greyed out.
Firefox does this but Outlook no longer does it.
Welcome to the forum caryc,
Have you tried repairing your MS office installation?

i have the hardest time trying to get the formatting in otlook 2003 right; basically, i need to send a press release so i draft a cover letter ; after that, i paste the press release (in word 2003) into outlook; it looks fine before sending but when i send it to myself (both in oe and outlook), the received mail's format doesnt look quite the same as what was sent
ie. some paragraphs are underlined and i cant seem to get rid of it; i tried the reveal code to figure out where the underline came from but no luck so far
I am trying to do a selected mail merge and ever time I get to the part we I select the files that I in my contacts it is looking at personal folder/Sent Items/Conflict. It will not allow me to select where my pst's are.

I installed the Home Student of Office 2007 which does not have Outlook in it. I loaded an old 2002 version of Outlook. When I try to specify Word as the Outlook editor I get the error "To use this feature, you must install the version of Microsoft Word that matches the installed version of Microsoft Outlook." Is there a way to use Word 2007 with Outlook 2002?
No it requires the same version to run it. So if your going to do it install Word 2002 and have it use that as your e-mail editor but you won't get the 2007 word features in it.
I have Windows XP sp2, Outlook 2002 SP3, Word 2000 SP3.
Now here is what happened. i had Outlook 2000 installed and i was able to use word as my email editor. Then i had to install outlook 2002 so that i could syncronize my "IPAQ" hand held.
now when i send email messages i word does not open. Now i have gone into tools/options/Mailformat to change the message format to use word as the email editor .......... AND here is the problem. I am not able to select these 2 boxes as they are greyed out. i am able to select the "compose in this message format" I am also not allowed to change the stationary. but i can change the fonts
i do have a signature.
I followed the help procedure
Turn Word on or off as your e-mail editor or viewer
Do one of the following:
Turn Word on or off as your default e-mail editor for all new messages
From the main Outlook window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
Select or clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.
Turn Word on as your e-mail editor for one new message
But as noted above i was not able to do that.
secondly i tried the following
On the Actions menu, point to New Mail Message Using, and then click Microsoft Word (message format).
i tried this but i got the following error message
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK "Can't create the item"
please advise what could be wrong here.
I am a 3rd year university student studying Forensic Science and i have to admit im not much of a writer and these long essays absolutly kill me...i spend so much time bringing up the word count window (time i probably should be spending writing). my question is...is there any way of having a word count always on the screen counting as i go?
does anyone know if this can be done...if so how?
please let me know if i need to download something (and where to get it) or what settings i need to change in word if that needs doing.
You still have to click the recount button though.
Every time I open Outlook, when I hit Send/Receive icon, it always opens a window, "Enter Network password".
Each time I need to input the password, although I have the saved password box checked.
anyone encounter this?

Our small company has been struggling with our Microsoft Outlook. It may be a server issue however I believe it is a setting on the accounts set up in Outlook. When I email to folks at my plant from a remote location everything is fine. When they reply to me, I only see a select few come back. When I visit the plant and plug into the network and I open up Outlook, all the emails that never reached me show up in my inbox. Again it's only about 5 people and the other 5 people have no problem replying to me.
We have 2 accounts set up...one is set up as mail..com.cust.securehostedemail.com and the other is labeled Microsoft Exchange Server. I personally utilize the first one I mentioned above because I am not hooked to our server in my remote office. The folks in the plant utilize the Microsoft Exchange Sever when communicating to each other in the plant, but when they do outside email the utilize the "mail....account.
It's been a frustrating 5 months like this. Any help!
waybehind on this one
I think I'm going blind or something...
How do you configure Outlook 2002 to work with Microsoft Mail?
Ok, not blind. Apparently this feature was removed from Outlook 2002 but there is a workaround to add it back in in case anyone else is interested:
The email address had single quote marks around it. Once I removed them, the message was on it's way to the receipient(?sp).
My internet browser is functioning properly, but for whatever reason my Outlook (2002) has decided to "randomly" not send an email. It sits in the outbox, and it doesn't matter how many times I click the Send & Receive button, it just flat won't go. There are no attachments, just a line or two of text. Any ideas?
Microsoft Outlook 2002 Connector enables you to use Microsoft Outlook 2002 to access your e-mail messages, calendar, address book, and To Do (task) items on an IBM Lotus Domino Release 5 server.
Supported Operating Systems: Windows .NET Server, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows XP
To install this update, you must have the following:
Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Outlook 2002 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Lotus Notes release 5.0.1, 5.0.6, 5.0.8, 5.0.9, 5.0.10 or 5.0.11.
Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0 or later. Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Windows XP include this version of the Windows Installer. Otherwise, the latest version of Windows Installer is available as a separate download at the following links:
Windows Installer for Windows 95, 98, and ME
Windows Installer for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000
This appears to be a common problem, with many solutions, though I have yet to find one that works for me. When using Outlook 2003 with Word 2003 set to be the email editor, Word opens and works fine to CREATE a new email. However, when trying to REPLY TO or FORWARD an email, I get the error message "Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The outlook email editor will be used instead...," and when I click OK to that message the native Outlook email editor opens. Word 2003 worked fine with Outlook 2003 replying to or forwarding emails till this morning, but the behavior described above now applies. The OS, by the way, is Windows 10. I have tried to both "repair" and "reinstall" the 2003 Office 2003 suite, both to no avail. Would appreciate a much needed solution to this puzzle.

For the past two weeks I have noticed that hyperlinks placed in email I am sending are being stripped by Outlook. I use Word 2003 as the email editor. I can write an email, insert (or have automatically convered) emails but if I either send or save those emails, the hyperlinks are removed. The problem does not occur if I use Outlook's email editor.
I have made no setting changes on my system, except moving from XPSP2 beta to XPSP2 Final.
Security by MS turned on by default in the final version.
I originally posted this question on November 3, 2010 in the Email section and in spite of many views, there were no replies. That is when I thought I might be going about asking the question the wrong way.
Windows XP - SP3 Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook 2003
I use Word as my email editor for Outlook. I had had a problem or two awhile back and I used the Detect and Repair Function that comes with Outlook 2003. Problems cleared up HOWEVER I got a new and IMHO worse problem: my emails that are advertisements like Newegg, TigerDirect, Overstock, etc. are fine but anything else that is actually text that is sent to me comes in very, very small and I can not find a way to change it. I have looked everywhere in Outlook; Microsoft online, and Google. Sample attached.
I can't find it and it is driving me crazy. If anyone could help, I'd sincerely appreciate it!
Thank you for your time.
Hi and welcome to TSG.
From the main Outlook Mail screen, try ...
Mail Format Tab ->
"Fonts ..." button in Stationery and Fonts section ->
"Choose Font ..." button under "When composing and reading plain text"
My original problem with Outlook 2002 doesn't seem to be going away so I think I will just install Outlook 2003. Is there a way to transfer all of the emails, contacts and calendar items from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003 on the same machine? Thanx
I do not have an answer to your question, just wondering if Outlook 2003 is the lastest version of that. Seems old to be the latest version, but since I have never used it, I really do not know.
If it is not, you might want to consider going to the most recent version instead.
I seem to recall that there is a major difference in how MS Outlook 2003 stores email versus earlier versions, is that true? And that the databases are not interchangeable? So if I install OL 2003 and want to revert back to 2002, will I be able to convert the data back?
I tried that, but was happy to have my Outlook 2002 backup, because I did not succeed. Still, I am not THAT experienced, so maybe it's possible...
Then again, it would be typically MicroSoft to have big brother refuse to recognise little brother.
I'm trying to set up email for Outlook 2002 (Office XP) but the stupid thing just won't do it. Once i installed it i open outlook 2002 and brings up the message "Could Not Open Your Default Email Folder. Try Again. So i click on OK as the only option available. Then this message comes up "Would you like to open your system dafault folder instead? Yes or No? No closes outlook 2002. Yes opens the system default folder. But either way it won't work is it faulty?
I previously had office 2003 pro installed but had to uninstall it because i was only allowed to have one copy installed at any one time. It came with my laptop preinstalled.
well i found out how to fix the problem, at this sitehttp://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread37254.htmlI tried the control panel option first but it failed for me, the registry edit solved it.3 more replies
Does anyone know how to change the Microsoft Outlook 2002 Icon,
I go to it's properties, but you can't click the "Change Icon" button it's not active.
Please help. i've got the 2003 version of the icon i want to change it to.
I've changed Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, FrontPage, Publisher.
Hi Izzy, for some reason the shortcuts Office XP creates do not allow you to change the icons on them (It surprises me that you where able to change most of them). What I did to get around this was I went into the Office program files and created shortcuts for all my exe files (sounds like an old TV show doesn't it? ). Then I moved the shortcuts to where I wanted them, changed the icons and renamed them. That solved that problem. Here is where they are located with Win XP Pro and Office XP: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10 The file you are looking for should have the Outlook symbol on it. To be sure you have the right file, just double click on it and outlook should open.2 more replies
when trying to access the address book by clicking on the relative item, i am being given the following error.
The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions.
Please note that all the relevant addresses can be accessed by clicking on Contacts, but it would be more appropriate to click on the address book.
Can you help.
I have a few questions for you:
A.) Did you delete the address book folder in your C drive?
B.) Have you done any viruses and/or spyware scans after this problem?
I recently started SBCYahoo DSL. What I want to do is use OutLook 2002. The Yahoo mail editor isn't all that good. OutLook works much better. The installation seem to work find. Mail is being transfered from my old Earthlink account okay. Life seem to be going along just find until this really rude window appeared saying:
Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Restart Microsoft Outlook
This was followed by two other error screens and than OutLook would restart. (I have attached some screen shots) I would loss any mail that I was working on at the time.
I did find on the MS support knowledge base something similar that had me can the properties associated with the Mipmapi.dll. This did not help. I wasn't sure that it would seeing how SBC uses POP3 not MAPI. So I am complete lost at this point. Any ideas on how bring harmony back into my email would be appreciated.

But if I open Outlook, after I get Outlook screen, comes small windows with following statement
" A program is trying to access e-mail address you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?
If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose No"
As soon as I answer, it will comes again and again. I have noticed that this question are comming as much as the number of contact I have. If I delete all contact it will not asking me, if I have 100 contact it will ask me 100 times.

I have a pronlem with a PC at the office - in Outlook the favrites menu appears however when ever I try and open the menu nothing happens. I have recreated teh profile and logged in as other users so it appears to be amchine specific. I've run a detec and repair and still no joy!!
Any ideas would be appreciated as this is doing my head in!!
I have a system that was running Outlook 2002 and as word 2002 as its text editor and it has worked fine until recently. When I opened up Outlook 2k2 recently and tried to reply to a message, I received this prompt "This form requires Word as your email editor, but Word is either busy or cannot be found. The form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead. An OLE (?) registration error occurred. The program in not correctly installed..."
Does anyone know who to resolve this? I have attempted to repair Outlook using its built in repair utility but that did not fix it.
The detect and Repair within Outlook will only fix Outlook issues. There seems to be a disconnect between Outlook and Word. Try using the repair installation options by popping the disk in or by using the Change option from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel for Office Xp (You will need the disk either ways.)
If this doesnt work , then try removing the entire Office suite and reinstalling. You wont lose your Outlook data nor the other Office documents in case you were wondering.
I just changed from Cablevision to Fios, Outlook worked fine ?or as best as it could bsed on the product). Now Everything is working EXCEPT my Outlook email 2002, I can go out to the web and outlook does not work. The settings are correct based Verizon looking at them although I CAN NOT recieve any email. The send and receive box does not even come up! The email does come and go from verizon.net on their site although I can not send or receive through my outlook!
It is obviously very cumbersome!
WHAT DO I DO? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS AT ALL? I AM NOT SURE IF I HAVE THE OLD OUTLOOK DISK, IF I FIND IT AND REINSTALL IT WILL IT WIPE OUT ALL MY IMPORTANT EMAIL DIRECTORIES?
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Did you create a new Outlook profile or just edit the existing one?
Re-check the settings and verify with Verizon what their email settings are. Are you seeing any errors during the send/receive tests?
If you don't currently backup up your outlook PST files you should definitely start doing that to avoid any possible data loss.

I purchased a new Dell XPS with Vista Home Premium x64 which came with Microsoft Mail. My old computer was an XP Home machine running Office 2002, including Outlook. I installed Outlook 2002 on my Vista machine but a known Vista/Outlook 2002 bug keeps having me enter my password everytime I run the program, so I decided to switch e-mail programs to the included Microsoft Mail on my Vista machine.
Here is my question... how can I get all of my archived messages from my XP/Outlook 2002 machine to my Vista/Windows Mail machine? Whenever I follow the directions on my Vista machine, it gives me the error "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occured while initializing it." This message occurs as soon as I click on the 'Outlook' selection in the messsaging import dialogue box... I can't even get to the point where Microsoft Mail looks for the archive file to import.

Help, my Microsoft Outlook 2002 has just begun running extremely slow. This only started about one week ago. I have looked on all the sites that give advice for this and so far nothing has worked, I have deleted all of my email, sent, received and folders. I have run detect and repair. All other programs are running normally. I also did a virus check and spyware removal. I have a Dell with Windows XP Professional. Please help this is so frustrating. I know practically nothing about computer systems but can follow directions quite well. Thanks
Hi everyone. I have Microsoft Outlook 2002 Service Pack 3. Well, I am having a problem with it sending my e-mail. Sometimes I'll click an e-mail link on the web and it'll automatically open the compose new message window. I will then type out the e-mail message and click send. Well, it won't send it right then. I then have to go into the main Microsoft Outlook program and click Send and Receive before it will send my e-mail that I just composed. What is up with that? How do I fix it? Do I not have a certain setting right?

i'm running windows xp, i'm having trouble opening certain e-mails, when i open one sometimes a blue Microsoft Word screen comes out in the background, you know like if i was going to write a letter, and then i get a window that states " The Command cannot be performed theres a dialog box open, close the box and continue ' but when i close it i get another window asking me for my 25 product key which i found and i type it in with caps or no caps and i get a window that states i put in the wrong product key, i can finally open the email opening it with Note Pad, but still i think i might have future problems with this product key thing is there anything i can do, like maybe download Microsoft Word ?? i'm totally lost here, any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have to type in the product key exactly as it appears. It is case sensitive and make sure that you type a 1 for number and l for letter, same for 0 number and O capital letter.

With Word, I have words that i use that are correct, but it keeps underlining them in red and i know you can add the words into its dictionary so that this doesn't happen for those words anymore. I forgot on where you do it, i know i should know as i've been using word since Office '95. I just always click on ignore. Someone did tell me once, but i need my memory refreshed.
The easiest way I found was to run spell check and when the pop up dialog box appears on words not in Word's dictionary( red squigglies) , there is an option to ignore, change, etc., or "add to dictionary". It is there that I make a decision whether to add or not, and I add it to the general dictionary. Check the HELP to determine how to set up a *special* dictionary, if that is what you want to do, just for these words.
Hope this helps.
