Don't want the numbers to round up.

Q: Don't want the numbers to round up.

I have an access 2003 form with a datasheet in a subform, there is a field in the subform that I need to enter 1.5 and so on, everytime I do, it rounds the numbers up. I don't want that to happen. I have tried a few things and searched a few things, but I am just missing something.

Help

A: Don't want the numbers to round up.

The number in the table's field is probably set to "Integer". Set it to Single or Double Precision.

My room mates computer went through an update. It got the update and then when it restarts it goes to the update screen and goes to about 10% completed and then says that it cannot complete the update. It then "reverts" back and then restarts the computer over again. It then begins to scan and clean the D: drive and begins again the same process as before with the 10%, reversion, restart, and so on and so forth. I do not know what to do other than possibly have to remove his hard drive and somehow backing up his files and putting a new OP system on there...and I do not really know how to do that. Please, any help is welcome and very much needed!

First off, let me explain. IO have never had to get outside help for removing malware of any kind before. Although I have often used this site for reference. Now I have a bit of a situation.

I have been struggling with a couple different trojans on my computer. One is Win32/Themida in several locations, One is Trojan.GEn in one location, and two instances of PWS-SpyEye!env.a in two different locations, and a corrupted executable in the following address:

<systemroot> \Users\Josh\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xmsyhwut.default\Cache\E0CAB40Bd01

I have made multiple attempt to fight this.

I started out running AVG and it found seven instances of that listed above
I then ran SASW in safe mode, after making sure I updated it in normal mode first
I then did a sweep with Malwarebytes Antimalware in safe mode after updating in normal mode first
I then ran Malwarebytes in normal mode after updating the definitions again

I then ran Hijack This to produce a log (which I have posted under the logs forums a couple days ago, yet haven't received a response) and I hope this is because I didn't explain myself first.

I ran all of these and each scan came up with 7 infections reflecting those named above with the exception of the last Malwarebytes scan that said I was clean.

Finally I scanned with AVG this morning, and these infections came back.

Guys, I have no clue what themida is(other than a trojan/bac... Read more

A:round & round the KEYBOARD I go

When the HP screen first comes up, can you access the BIOS (by pressing F10) or the boot menu (by pressing Esc)?
If so, then your keyboard is working.
If not, try another keyboard.
Try a different kind of keyboard (if you've got a USB keyboard, then try a PS2 keyboard).

Let us know what you find and we can move on from there.

I need a formula please:
Our state now requires us to report all "gross sales" as even dollars.

(Round Up to the next dollar if the cents are from .50 to .99 cents, down to the existing dollar if the cents are from .01 to .49)

If sales for the month are $123.49, we are to report sales as $123.00
If sales for the month are $123.50, we are to report sales as $124.00
Is there a formula to accomplish this feat?
Thank you for your help

Hey everybody.

I don't know if the title is a good one for this problem, but here goes.

I have a column that has numbers in this format: 54321-1234

Now, I want to take off the last 4 numbers, and the dash, from all the numbers in the column, using a formula. So that the output would be: 54321.

I want it so the first 5 numbers stay the same, but the dash and last 4 are gone. Is this possible?

Thanks.

This was asked before by KlausdB:

"I have 4 x HDDs on SATA AHCI (Intel Controller) in Native Mode and 1 x ESATA on Win 7 Pro X64.
I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

"Disk 1".
Selecting the Drive's Properties correctly shows the "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)".
I also note that the Disk Number allocation in Windows will change randomly after some reboots/startups - going anywhere from "Disk 1" to "Disk 4". I can force/replicate this

behaviour by removing the ESATA drive.
Is this expected behaviour?
It doesn't appear to create any operating issues at this stage, however, is there a way I can force the Drive to always map to (eg) Device 0 --> Disk 1, Device 1 --> Disk 2,

etc?
Thanks."

This was answered by Nicholas Li:

"As far as I know, how the disk is plugged physically and the order it is displayed are not related. For a simple example, if a drive is plugged to SATA interface 4 and it is the only disk, it will be displayed as Disk 0. If there is no related issue about
the disk order, I think we can safely ignore this."

I have three SATA hard drives :
Main system/boot drive , WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 0 port
A backup drive, identical WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 1 port
Another dirve, Hitachi 1 TB, connected to the SATA 2 port
When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

QUESTION 1.
All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

QUESTION 2,
Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

A:SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

Best advice, leave it alone. It may bother your (and others) sense of order but it won't affect how anything works, and no re-installing Windows won't change it.

Hi,
I have some reference books I use and in all of them I have this problem:

The number written on the document pages doesn't match the number my pdf reader says, and for every document it has a different offset. That is, for example when I go to page 16, then on the page itself it's written that it's page 5 and not 16.

It's an annoying problem.
Is there any way to fix this by changing the pdf numbering or is there any workaround?

Thanks

Hi,
The strangest thing has happened to my computer today. I normally don't have any problems with pop-ups, but this morning I was checking out some site called DVD box when a couple got by Zone alarm. When I got off I promptly started up adaware to check for anything, found nothing aside from Alexa, and then went to Cyberscrub and began cleaning up my traces in case I got revisited by the pop-up or it's relatives. I only instructed Cyberscrub to delete traces, and when it went to reboot the computer all hell broke loose. Ever since the restart I've been caught in an endless loop that keeps repeating the same process - It starts up, desktop and icons appear, then error boxes start popping up stating that certain processes have failed and will be shut down. The routine is as follows -

2) WCES Mgr.exe - DLL initialization failed
3) vsmon.exe - DLL initialization failed
Ink monitor failed - shutting down

It then shuts down the computer, reboots, and does the same thing again. If I try and run any programs, like Norton AV, error messages pop up saying the processes cannot start because the computer is shutting down.

I tried reinstalling XP thinking that perhaps Cyberscrub had removed essential files or folders, but the reinstallation did nothing, with the exception that it at least initiated some pop-up inquiries from Zone alarm that froze the shutdown process so that I could get some stuff I'd been working on saved on a a jazz... Hello,

I have 4 computers connected to Linksys WRT54GL router. All are on Win7 64bit. Problem is that 2 laptops can be accessed by all 4 laptops on the network, BUT there are 2 laptops that cannot be accessed. Which means, PC3 and PC4 can see files from PC1 & PC2 but not vice-versa. I tried connecting PC3 to the Homegroup that PC1 created. It managed to join successfully but I still cant see PC3 on PC1. What could be the problem?

Notes:
-All PC1-4 have the network set to home network and file discovery turned on.
-All are running on Win7 64bit.

Help is much appreciated. Thanks

--------------------------
Updated from 3rd post:

Hello there

Before this, PC1 and PC2 were accessible by the other computers even though they were not in a homegroup. Then, I decided to join all of them into the same homegroup create by PC1. At first, I saw a glimpse of hope. The 4 PCs showed up in the network. But that was all there was. When I tried to access PC3 and PC4, it just takes stone age to load and then come up with an error saying that "the network path doesnt exist".

I then did what you said and disband the whole homegroup and rebooted the computer. I created a homegroup using PC1 and then connected PC3 to it. Still the same story. PC3 could access PC1 but not the other way round.

I also tried to create a homegroup using PC3 (the pc that couldnt be accessed) but PC1 couldnt detect the homegroup.

A:PC1 can see PC2 but not other way round.

I had a similar issue where my laptop could not see my PC, but my PC could see my other two laptops. What I ended up doing is deleting my Homegroup completely, reset it up on my PC (main holder/creator of the Homegroup), then adding each laptop one by one to the home group, disabling password protected shares, then rebooting both laptops. After a reboot and a 5 min wait all computers were able to access each other.
It was driving me crazy, all I was yelling was "I thought homegroup was suppose to make network sharing easier!"

Over a year ago, when I first got started with Vista x64, I also dual-booted between XP and Vista x64. I didn't have any problems with either after that, but the 3 weeks or so that followed my Vista installation, I realized that I hadn't booted into XP for anything of consequence, and that Vista x64 was working for me even better than I anticipated.

So I proceeded to backup the new data that was added in that time, formatted all my hard disks, and re-installed only Vista x64. I haven't looked back since.

All the games I play, such as the now classic Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction, Empire Earth, and even Tetris 4000 works better than they ever did under XP. The newer Tomb Raider games, Legend and Anniversary are also operating very well. My list of larger applications like Microsoft Office, Borland Delphi, Adobe Premiere Elements are what I use every day, and they work perfectly. The same can be said about the utilities, such as WinZip, MainConcept Encoder and MagicISO.

Hello my fellow forum member. First and foremost, let me say that all the knowledge and suggestion I receive from members of this forum is greatly appreciated. Secondly, being that my first build was a sucess I'm now looking to build something for my 7 years old daughter. Furthermore, I read the review on the 9-way Intel P35 motherboard round-up. Most importantly, what I gathered from this information was that the Abit IP35 Pro and ASUS P5K Deluxe would fulfill my price range of no more than $200.00 for a mother board. However, the question that I have would be when purchasing a cpu (E8400 vs Q6600) would you notice the difference in FSB; E8400 FSB 1366 vs Q6600 FSB 1066? Also, my budget for a processor would be no more than $250.00. I'm open for any suggestion in whether I should consider a different board, choose a different processor, and etc.

Products covered include:
- Abit IP35 Pro (Intel P35)
- Abit IP35-E (Intel P35)
- ASUS P5K Deluxe (Intel P35)
- ASUS P5K-E (Intel P35)
- ASUS P5K-SE (Intel P35)
- ECS P35T-A (Intel P35)
- Gigabyte P35-S3L (Intel P35)
- Gigabyte P35-DS4 (Intel P35)
- Gigabyte P35-DQ6 (Intel P35)

A:9 Way Intel P35 round up

The Abit IP35-E and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L are both good mobos if you don't plan on using RAID, otherwise I'd step up to the GA-P35-DS3R, IP35-Pro or P5K-E.

Both of the CPUs are high performance, with normal use there would be no noticeable difference . You would have to use some CPU intense apps to notice any difference at all. With single threaded programs (most stuff) the E8400 is faster, multi-threaded programs the Q6600 has a edge. I really can't see a 7 year old needing anything more the a E2200.

ROUND 2........point form

*it froze again, i have replaced the psu and it helped alot, but hasnt cleared the problem.

speedfan read as follows when it froze:

CPU FAN
4688RPM
FRONT FAN
1361RPM
SIDE FAN blowing on STOCK STD CPU COOLER/FAN
1042RPM

CORE: 49C
TEMP1: 40C
CPU: 44C
NORTH: 42C
SOUTH: 32C
HD0: 41C
HD1: 39C
HD2: 47C
HD3: 41C

any suggestions to stop the freezes, even case mods ppl have done to help reduce heat would be appreciated, i dont mind 'modifying' my case as long as it is an improvement

*Ambeint temp was around 28c inside and i was playing an online game at the time.
*I havent done the memtest as yet...
*i can feel most of the heat sinks and they are not too hot too touch, the ram is not hot either but the HD's may need attention due to the temps...but i may have to cut the side case cover to allow more airflow for this.

*since replacing the psu and the vid cards, the temps have come down but the hd's have increased a little. The average was about 35-40c, now its 39-43c

*my cpu cooler is still on order...been a while now...any suggestions on a better cooler than a zalman 9500/9700 series to suit my board -a8n-sli-premium -amd 939 socket which sits on its side inside my tower, post a link...
pls keep in mind 7 fans run inside not including my vid cards, i can reduce or keep these...

A:Round 2 ... pc still freezes, not as often...

What happens when you run your system with the case open?

With those fan speeds, your system must be loud as crap. The temps are not that bad

Dear All,

I have been trying to crop an photo to give a circular image. So I can create a circle logo and / or set up circular thumbnails on a web site I'm struggling with.

I've tried PhotoPlus 6 / Irfanview / Paint.net / PhotoFiltre / VicMans Photo Editor.

None will allow me to draw a circle around a set area of the image and crop it. Just leaving a round image. The ones that actually allow a crop include a square outline around the circle, sometimes filled white. In one case filled with a chequered pattern!!.

Why is it so difficult?

Regards

A:Round Crop

The checkered pattern is probably what you are trying to accomplish. By definition a graphics file has to be rectangular, but the part that isn’t your circle can be transparent. Programs need a way to tell you it is transparent and the light checkerboard is the common display for that.

So, I recently got some brilliant help here removing an Alureon.H infection from my computer. Today, Microsoft Security Essentials is telling me I am infected with it again. I ran Sophos Anti-Rootkit, Kapersky's TDSS Killer, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware... none of them have found any infected files. Is MSE going haywire or is there actually an infection there?

I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition on a Dell Latitude E6400.

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!!! I AM GONNA THROW IT ALL AWAY SOON!!!!

Ok heres the problem

I did have two pcs, a desk top and a laptop,( I bought the laptop because the dtop was about 5 years old and the hdd was failing)

my daughter stood on the lap top and broke the screen i sent it away and after waiting EIGHT WEEKS i was sent back a a voucher for a replacement pc because i was annoyed with the service i sold the vouchers at a reduced rate to someone i knew really needed a pc as I had my old one to fall back on

Trouble was all the stuff i needed was on the other hard drive...

This was returned and to top it all, it was SATA and my desk top was IDE so I bought a pci SATA controller card.

Now that the IDE HDD is failing i want to use the SATA on my desktop but cannot find where to 'tell' it to boot up using the SATA.

thye question I have really is this:

Can i use the SATA or am I wasting my time?
Is there a way of booting using your cd drive as a windows system drive so that you can keep as much hdd spare?
There is a lot of stuff on them that i want to keep and not enough space for another partition or enough to copy over and swap about.

the desktop is a DELL Gx110 (i know i said it was old) and after the service i got and the tech support i recieved i dont really want to buy another as to be honest this one meets all my needs and cant really afford to buy another HDD despite the fact some can be cheap.

any help gratefully recieved and will answe... Read more

hi Jimmy, welcome to TSF. I hear your frustration! To make the SATA boot up as primary, as windows often makes IDE the bootable drive, boot the pc up, and enter the bios(sometimes called "Enter Setup")

simply go to the Hardrive area and make the SATA drive the top of this list. Save your settings and then reboot the pc. The sata should then boot up. Just make sure your OS is on this drive or nothing will happen!!!

Hoep this helps, if not, ask away!

That is where I am going - fast.

My computer was playing up so badly I have had to do a complete system restore. I had to download the driver for the my monitor and all the programmes that we all use for security etc. It took hours...........

Everything seems fine except that there is one glitch in the system; when I click on Outlook Express it immediately alters my screen colour to 8 bit low. I then have the chore of reseting it to 32 bit from the Control panel. It only does it once in each session. If go back and use it again it loads fine and nothing happens.

I have no idea if this is something to do with the monitor driver or OE itself. Any ideas? Should I reload Windows XP over the top of the existing installation? Would that affect any of the other programmes now reinstalled on my machine?

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Round the Bend

Re-installation of Windows over the existing one often solves problems but the registry is reset and most of your programs and drivers will have to be re-installed too, oviously resetting all the user preferences. If your willing to do that again go for it, it takes time but you won't lose anything.

Thanks for any recommendations.

A:Round IDE cables

They're a very good company.. That's expensive for round cables though.. I normally wait for them to go on sale and buy for $1 each.. How long are the cables you need? I can probably show you where they are cheaper and still from a reputable dealer..

I conveniently ran the EXE while resident shield was shut off to play a game and now i'm infected. Trying to move the virus to the vault works apperently but the virus shows up again repeatedly. It's in a Svchost.exe, but I've checked all of them and all of them are microsoft copyrighted.I won't be turning off my computer untill this is resolved because from my own experience the bad stuff starts happening once I restart. Price list column:
So that I can do my own form of setting price points by introducing "IF" formulae, how can I get the formulae to ignore the amount of pounds in the amount so it can work on just the pence?

That way can get 4.35 to become 4.29 or say 7.40 to become 7.49.

Any ideas.

The store manager sold me on an AMD chip. Ive always had Pentiums before.

They said that the numbering system is different and that an AMD 2.4ghz is equivalent to a P @ 3.5ghz due to the "architecture" - They said the AMD doesnt have to run at 3.5ghz in order to accomplish the same thing. Therefore he said they dont overclock, or overheat and they cost less too.

They also pointed out that as a result, many gamers have turned to AMD supporters.

I thought I would post this as I saw some one in the "Am I infected" post a problem with a fake E mail.
For the last couple of weeks I have been getting E-Mails in my Yahoo spam folder
from Facebook, My Space, and You Tube. These are all in various ways advising the my account needs attention. They look very real and official. I use that computer for business. I have no accounts with any of these social media sites. Pretty sure they are malware traps.
Don't know if there is someone new out there generating these but thought I would pass this on as a warning.

A:New round of fake E mails?

Some of the spam runs that were part of this investigation used the name of Facebook, and US Airways. Other spam runs involved LinkedIn, as well as USPS. The most recent campaign we've seen that was part of this wave of attacks used the name of CareerBuildersnipAs we mentioned earlier, this particular campaign was not the only spam run we investigated. We found clear evidence that all these attacks were linked. In many cases, the same sets of compromised URLs were used by multiple spam runs. This suggests that at least some of the parties responsible for these attacks were identical, if it was not the same group altogether. More @ link

I have a 16:10 1680x1050 monitor right now and I want to get another to get dual screen. I am finding it hard to find these monitors in my country though. I found an ideal monitor that is 16:9. Is there someway to convert the 16:10 one to 16:9 or the 16:9 one to 16:10 so they can have equal resolutions.

If not, when using dualscreen, is there a noticeable difference with 16:10 and 16:9? Both 20inch.

A:Convert 16:9 to 16:10 or otherway round?

You may have unused space, a small amount ( not black bars ) although people love to call them this, on the sides.

I tried to install it into a new folder in My Documents, but that isn't working.Like I said I don't use this account ever, I'm just worried that the virus I have will spread to the main account or slow it down again. You should just get rid that user. It may be encountering some problems from the aftermath of the malware you had. Just open the user control panel, click on the user and select delete. You should delete all the users files when prompted.

Have an Access2000 database in which I need to round UP (not just round) to the next highest whole number. Access has a ROUND function that rounds down when the decimal is <.5 and up if .5 or more. I have 9 optionals and 3 important updates showing.

KB3055883 (Edit... should read KB3035883) which is classed as important looks like it could be W10 related. The support link lists it as 'Enables extra update capabilities'.

There are also two Defender updates showing, both of which my 7:30am Defender update task successfully installed.

HelloOk lets try this, I want you to run combofix in safe mode but it is very important that when combofix reboots the computer for you to direct it back into safe mode so it can finish the scan. Boot into Safe Mode Reboot your computer in Safe Mode. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode. Thanks.

Depends on the game, depends on the day.

Most of us are individually pretty sharp when it comes to troubleshooting games and hardware issues, but the pool of knowledge and experience formed by everyone here is where the real strength lies. I don't think you'll find that there's any one person who knows all, although some will try to tell you they do.

As for moderators, there is a list on the bottom of the homepage of users currently online. The names in bold are moderators.

Not sure if I should be here or on digital photography and imaging....

Have been over the manual and I can't seem to get the orientation right. I am asking the printer to print landscape and flip the image 180 deg...it's a card so I want the image to be on the right side of the card. It just prints portrait.

I have been into printing preferences and ticked all the approriate boxes but it still ignores the command. Also the printer only has two options of paper A4 and 4 x 6in. Could this be it, as the card is 5 x 7in (I chose the smaller size on the printer).

I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 (made dozens of cards using it but not with this printer).

I am looking for some help with excel. I want to round a number up all the time.
Basically;
In Cell A1 I will be entering different number values.
In cell A2 I have the formula =(A1/350)+2
Now the problem I have is sometimes the number I get in cell A2 has a decimal place i.e, 7.37. However I want that number always rounded up so there are no decimal places. i.e, if 7.37 round up to 8, if 35.11 round up to 36.
Is there anyway to make this happen, once again I appreciate all help.
Thanks

Discovered a work-a-round to the hotmail problem reported here:
http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/828275-what-does-mean.html

I can open any email in my hotmail account by right clicking on the email and clicking on print--only don't let it print but instead click on cancel and the email is then shown. I can send and recieve emails using hotmail but this is the only way I can read them.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening and/or what has happened to my hotmail account? There have been no updates to hotmail. One thing is for sure---I will not dance to this tune by using this hotmail account. Guess I'll just lose all the speacial folders, and their contents, that I have saved over a period of time. Also guess I can open a new hotmail account IF I want to continue using it. As usual, TIA for any help/explanations.
BTW, I can't delete any of my messages.

Just seen this as a workaround for lock screen problem. No idea if it works but going to try it.

Disable Win10 AU lock screen : Windows10

Edit: What do you know it works when I followed it!

The bit that got it working was how to do the regedit (copied from a reply by danskeman)

I too have the issue about no link to disable password on wakeup anymore.

Still, with local login and no password, I only have to press enter now - much better.

A:Possible way to get round lockscreen problem

This method works!

Important : Credit for this goes to user jakegh on Windows 10

Basically, you just set a scheduled task to set a regedit entry back to zero that keeps getting set to 1 since the AU upgrade.

I have produced a short video showing how to do it.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/82199408/unlock.wmv

The registry key line to paste in arguments box is as follows:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData /t REG_DWORD /v AllowLockScreen /d 0 /f

Hello,

I want to clean my hard drive properly and opt for both rewrite using ERASER and reformat.

which one should I do first or does it matter?

Thanks in advance.

A:Rewrite and then reformat or the other way round?

If you want to remove all traces of all data on the hard drive and then do a clean installation of the operating system you might want to consider using a program like Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) overwrite all sectors on the hard drive with random data. The hard drive will then need to be reformatted before anything else can be installed. I believe that most recent Windows installation CDs will detect an unformatted hard drive and give you the option to format and partition the drive before installing Windows.

From what little I have read about Eraser, it will remove files so that they can not be easily recovered but will not remove the existing operating system files.

i'm not sure if this is the right place to post up a question like this, but i'm trying to review and learn some stuff on my own. this is about round-robin scheduling .. and the question goes something like this.....

------------------------
suppose that we have a multiprogrammed computer in which each job has identical characteristics. In one computation period, T, for a job, 1/4 the time is spent in I/O and the other 3/4 in processor activity. Each job runs for a total of N periods. Assume that a simple round-robin scheduling is used, and that I/O operations can overlap with processor operation. Define the

following quantities:
-Turnaround Time (TAT) = actual time to complete a job
-Throughput = average number of jobs completed per time period T
-Processor utilization = percentage of time that the processor is active (not waiting)

Compute these quantities for three simultaneous jobs, assuming that the period T is distributed in such a way that I/O is for first 1/4 and processor is for next 3/4.
------------------------------

what i understand so far from doing research online is that....

Tq = total quantum
p = process
q = quantum
TAT = turnaround time

TAT = (n-1)Tq and Tq = p x q

and

Throughput = (sum of) time for jobs to complete / Number of completed jobs

i'm not really sure how to solve this problem.. any explanations will be great..

thank you very much....

Hi ppl!

Well, 1 month ago, I was trying to open ports on my D-Link DIR-655 with no success... (check full thread here)

Everything seemed OK:

- Linksys AM200 modem (192.168.1.1) "RFC 1483 Briged" to a D-Link DIR655 (192.168.0.1) router set to PPoE;
- D-Link port forwarding menu well configured;
- firewall well configured;

...but PFPortChecker was always retrieving "NOT OPEN"! After a lot of reading, I found a post on a forum which solved things for me!

someone at another forum said:

Port Forwarding usually needs the LOCAL IP to be static, NOT the WAN IP.

Turn OFF DHCP if active in the router.

Turn OFF DHCP if active on the PC(s)

Assign a static IP to each PC on your LAN even if only one is to receive forwarded ports.

The router is usually 192.168.0.1 so PC IP's can be in the range 192.168.0.2~255

Use the same subnet mask on each: 255.255.255.255

Use the router's IP as the DNS and the Internet Gateway addresses.

Port forwarding will now work correctly.

I did all this in my Wireless Connection's TCP/IP properties in XP's Network Connections. All I have different from these procedures is my IP range is 192.168.0.100~192.168.0.199 and Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

By then, I had three applications to open ports to and, to date, those applications are running smoothly and ports remain open regardless of router rebooting, WAN IP changing, etc...

The problem now is, I need to open a few more ports, didn'... Read more

However, this clearly isn't an isolated problem, since as I documented previously, I experienced the exact same problem when I tried to install GoBack on a laptop running WindowsXP Media Center Edition running on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. What's going on here? One GoBack installation with WindowsXP works on one laptop, but not on other ones? What are others thinking?

Hey all.
A friend of mine wants a computer, so he asked me about it. I ran him by the basics, and we worked out this list (see below). He will be using the computer as an all-round machine.
He is on a maximum budget of $1000.
We live in Australia and will be purchasing all the parts from www.pccasegear.com
He wanted a nice quiet build with an intel CPU and enough power for everyday computing usage, and occasional photoshop/gaming (Bf3 and cod). He already owns a Hard drive and monitor.
I drew together this list for him:

Is there anything you would do differently?

CoolerMaster Silencio 550 $89.00
Intel Core i5 3470 $189.00
Sapphire Radeon HD7770 1GB GHZ Edition $129.00
Samsung 830 Series 128GB SSD Retail Box $99.00
Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 $49.00
ASUS P8H77-M Motherboard $95.00
Samsung SH-224BB/BEBS SATA DVDRW Drive OEM $21.00
Logitech MK260 Wireless Desktop $25.00
Corsair CX-500 V3 Power Supply $79.00
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1 OEM $99.00
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 Retail $115.00
Sub-total: $989.00

A:Budget all-round build for friend

Well I was gonna suggest a 7850 for playing BF3 but looking at the prices on that website it seems to be almost twice as expensive as the 7770. In the UK the 2GB 7850 is only about 40-50% more than the 1GB 7770, and the gap shrinks with the 1GB 7850. Some weird pricing going on...

That's a great build for the price, only suggestion I would make is that your friend can download the Windows 8 Release Preview and then upgrade for US$40 when it comes out.

Firefox Wins A Round, With an Asterisk
By STEPHEN WILLIAMS

Firefox evangelists have something extra in their stockings this holiday ? their Web browser has surpassed Microsoft?s entrenched Internet Explorer surf software in popularity. Sort of.

According to the analytical firm StatCounter, its surveys indicate that Mozilla?s Firefox version 3.5 had a 21.93 percent market share at the end of last week, compared to 21.2 percent for Microsoft?s Internet Explorer 7 and 20.33 percent for the latest Explorer, version IE 8.

But it?s apparent that Explorer still commands the browser market when you total users of other versions. (StatCounter?s charts are interactive and you can change the variables.)

I've been quite happy with Firefox for the past year and a half, since I rejoined civilization and got a computer. It was recommended by the family electronics guru, and I have no complaints.

Hi everyone - not been on here for quite a while - best wishes to all!

I'm not a gamer (though would like to start - actually better not, i'd never stop), so mainly business and home browsing use, though want to start downloading music and films to burn off PC and maybe watch films on PC too and live sport (ie not sure if current Monitor, graphics and sound cards are good enough?).

Want to get into SQL database creation and maybe some web designing too.

Sorry, quite alot of info there, if i could build on the cheap (don't we all want that?) that'd be great, ie not after building the fastest and meatiest beast on the planet - just one far better than i currently have that is way ahead of my capabilities & ambitions. Just like having the engine & power under the hood - knowing you can use it occasionally, using it occasionally, but not thrashing it ev day if you know what i mean!

Here's what i currently have (prob well outta date!);

Its a package i got from PC World prob about 3 years ago now (apart from the TFT, as i foolishly dropped the original when shifting my room around a bit!). ie bored of what i have.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated on what i should look for for greater speed and basically to 'keep up with the changing times'!

Write in Black for one! (Also not Bold or italic or any other variation, just plain text).

It's much easier on the eye, have a look for yourself and compare (actually edit your post and remove the color all together would be nice).

Also have you had a look at the Name brand providers, like Dell; Asus; Hp whatever other?

When building my new computer I bought a new western digital 80 gig hard drive (XP PRO) and slaved my old maxtor hard drive (XP).
On my slave drive I still have a system password which disables me from getting to a lot of spots including and most important "My Documents" (where all my music is). Without the slave drive unlocked my add/remove programs does't recognise anything on the old hard drive to add or remove.

On my slave drive (old drive) I had Norton 2004, but it wouldnt work from the slave drive on my new computer (maybe because of the password?)... So I installed it on my new hard drive (2 copies on 1 computer). I had already registered Norton 2004 on my old hard drive and it prompted me to do it again on my new hard drive... so... I did without thinking. Now I'm having problems with the Regsvr32 file... which caused everything to go wrong. I did exactly as the Norton website told me too but it must run deeper than the .dll files being sent to the regsvr32 files... which leads to more problems.

Originally my computer made my slave drive the C: drive and my new hard drive the E: drive. But when I had the Regsvr32 problem they swapped names automatically. This left a lot of my links to programs confused and a lot of my programs just dont work now.

Microsoft Word is on my slave drive and I start school tomorrow.

How do I unlock my old hard drive?
How do I fix Norton's problem?
How do I get Windows XP Pro to operate ... Read more

A:2 hard drives... round 1... fighting.

The best way to install a new harddrive is the following:
Install the new drive as SLAVE in your PC.
Set the hard-disk recognition in your BIOS to Automatic.
Now start up and make an Image (with e.g. Drive Image) of your old harddisk (one image per partition) and transfer that onto the new SLAVE. This means you can use that new harddisk the same way you did your old one, with all programs and files intact.
Now switch off your PC, make the SLAVE the new MASTER and the old MASTER now becomes the SLAVE. Restart your PC and bingo..., it works.

In your case you should do the same, meaning making your old Maxtor the master again, and the new WD the slave. Then proceed as above with the image. This would automatically solve your Norton problem, because the (junky) stuff that sits on your new WD will be overwritten with the new image.

Once your new WD is the master again, you can reformat your Maxtor and use it for other purposes.

To solve a problem with unaccessible files on another HD, you have to take "ownership" of your old Doc-files. Follow my (realblackstuff's) posts in this thread:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=71715
You won't need to do this, because the image copied all your Doc-files over as well.

My ASUS P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe motherboard came with PC Probe 2 which checks various temperatures. My motherboard temp is always more than my CPU, whilst the CPU temp fluctuates alot more.
I ran SiSoft Sandra and it confirmed my suspicions, the temps are the wrong way round.
To confirm this, if I increase the CPU voltage, the motherboard temp increases instead of the CPU.
Any ideas?

Howdy,
My wife had a picture on her screen (her account) that I tried to send to "My Pictures" "(on My Account) by right clicking on it. Although I did not see that option I tried a couple of different things. In other words I monkeyed around until the picture disappeared off her screen.

What I am looking at now is just a blue screen with some icons on the left hand side which were there before along with the picture. I checked to see if she had the picture stored under " My Pictures" (her account) but it is no longer there. I think she accidently had deleted it a few months ago.

When I am on her account and click on log off and then click on switch users the picture pops up for a second or two and then disappears as the computer switches to my account. So the picture is still on the computer somewhere.

Could someone please tell me how to retrieve it and set it back up on her screen ?

I hope I am making some sort of sense. If not please ask and I will try to be more clear.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

A:Trying To Retrieve Back round Picture

Did you do a search of the hard drive...for said file?

If you don't know the filename...you can always do a search for all of the filetypes. Example, the pic has a filename of sky.jpg...just do a search of the system for all .jpg files, using *.jpg as the search string.

I don't believe that Windows can reflect an image of a file which no longer exists, I think it's on the system somewhere.

Hi all.

When building my computer (not the specs shown in sig) last November i bought this fan the Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 to use with Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. Touch-wood it has worked lovely ever since.

But re-reading the manual for the fan it appears that i have mounted it facing the wrong way. It is currently blowing air towards the front of the system instead of out the back.

I have had a new PC case delivered today so while i was transferring all the parts into the new one i thought that i would have a go at unclipping the bracket and swiveling the fan around. My question is: is it OK to just twist the fan around on its current thermal compound and will it affect the effectiveness of it if I do?

Many Thanks,
Rob

A:Quick question:CPU fan wrong way round

'is it OK to just twist the fan around on its current thermal compound' - NO

'will it affect the effectiveness of it if I do?' - YES
