Hi all!

I have a client who tries to type in a table in Word 2000 and the text displays s-l-o-w-l-y. I copied the file to my PC and opened it in Word 97 and the tried it again. This time it displayed my type characters in realtime. I will try Office 2000 on another PC to see if the results are the same.
Anybody run into this problem?

A:Solved: Word 2000 Types Slow!

Run Word's repair. If that doesn't work, take these steps in order, checking Word after each one to see if it has resolved the problem:

1. Check to see if Outlook is journaling anything, particularly Word.

2. With Word closed, rename the normal.dot file and relaunch.

3. See if there is anything in Word's Startup folder, temporarily move it.

4. Backup then dump the Word registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word

So I have a batch of about 750 Word documents that need to be converted to RTF. I recorded a macro that looks something like this:

quote:

Sub rtf3()
'
' rtf3 Macro
'
'
Documents.Open FileName:="D:\user\Desktop\test\1.docx", ConfirmConversions:=False, ReadOnly:= _
False, AddToRecentFiles:=False, PasswordDocument:="", PasswordTemplate:= _
"", Revert:=False, WritePasswordDocument:="", WritePasswordTemplate:="", _
Format:=wdOpenFormatAuto, XMLTransform:=""
ActiveDocument.SaveAs FileName:="D:\user\Desktop\test\1.rtf", FileFormat:=wdFormatRTF, _
LockComments:=False, Password:="", AddToRecentFiles:=True, WritePassword _
:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, EmbedTrueTypeFonts:=False, _
SaveNativePictureFormat:=False, SaveFormsData:=False, SaveAsAOCELetter:= _
False
ActiveDocument.Close
It works fine, but there are a couple of problems w/ it. 1, I have to repeat it over and over for each file, and 2, each repetition has to be edited w/ the next filename, the path to that file, and the new filename. I figured out a way to partially automate that process, but it's still a PITA .

Can't I just tell it to get all the .docx files in this folder and all its subfolders and save them as an RTF w/ the original filename?

I had old word perfect files that converted to word -- however i had organized them using file extensions (such as .frm to signify forms). I have renamed them without the extensions and assigned them to word but under the type heading they still show as WPD File. How can i change the file to show as word file types

A:Changing Word file types

First, open Windows Explorer.
Hit Tools-Folder options.
Hit the View tab.
Make sure you're VIEWING file extensions.
This should bring some light to what's occurring.

Also:

I STRONGLY recommend NOT doing what you're doing anymore. Windows has always been such that it depends on file extensions to know what kind of file it is.

Instead of using file extensions to tell you what type of file it is, use folders instead.

Put all your forms in a folder called forms, or put the frm in the filename BEFORE the file extension.

Windows recognizes Word documents as having a DOC extension. If you use this method, you can then simply double-click a DOC file to have it open in Word. If you use FRM, Windows won't know what the heck program it should use.

I could tell you how to set Windows to open FRM files from Word, but that is a WAY bad idea because Windows counts so much on file extensions....

Hey everybody,

I'm currently working on my final dissertation and i need some help on how to ust footnotes in word 2003.

The thing is I know how to make footnotes and endnotes. What I do not know is how to make 2 different kinds of footnotes in the same document.

So one type of those footnotes would be with roman numbers and the other with normal numbers. All along the text there would be both types alternatively without them interfering with each other.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance

C

A:Footnotes in Word 2003 (2 types)

hum; Word is not too flexible here

if you choose your own 'symbol' you can control it as you please
(just be sure to reset at the end of every page)

HOWEVER, if you have an appendix of footnotes, it will be a mess in that they
will not be consecutively numbered.

Unless you are dealing with a university style requirement, I would opt for
Word defaults.

I receive four different kinds of documents that I need to comment on extensively. I use a lot of macros, and my list is getting too long to be useful.

Using Word 2007, is there any way to divide my long, unruly list of macros into four separate lists, each of which could be used with one of the four types of documents?

I've tried searching for help and I'm either using the wrong terms, or this is nowhere nearly as straightforward as it seems like it should be.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

This is an update of a closed thread, which itself was an update of another closed thread (I work for the government, so everything takes forever ). U can see pt2 here: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/876775-word-2007-macro-convert-file.html#post7030254

Anyway, issues 1 and 3 in that thread were resolved w/ the advice that Rollin_Again gave me. Only issue 2 remains:

2. It would be really helpful to get it to create PDF, rtf, and txt files all in the same folders.
Are you saying that you want to run the macro one time and have it create all 3 files types at the same time without having to modify the code and change the file output manually?Click to expand...

Yes... virtually every time we run this macro, we will need pdf, rtf, and txt versions of the original file in the same folder. So if the input file is in FOLDER1 and is named FILE1.docx, then the output folder should also be called FOLDER1 and it should contain FILE1.pdf, FILE1.rtf, and FILE1.txt.

I've pasted the macro below... it looks to me like some portion of the do-loop that creates the RTF file needs to be replicated twice more and each of those replications needs to be modified slightly to create PDF and TXT files.

'**OPEN THE MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC EDITOR, CLICK TOOLS >> REFERENCES, AND MAKE
'**SURE THAT "MICROSOFT SCRIPTING RUNTIME" IS CHECKED.

This is an update of a closed thread... u can see the original here: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/856041-solved-word-2007-macro-convert.html

So I've got the macro and it works great -- for converting doc/docx to PDF or rtf. But there are 3 issues that still need to be addressed.

1. I can't get it to work to convert to txt properly -- it gives me an output txt file that includes a bunch of formatting instructions like font, color, spacing, etc.

2. It would be really helpful to get it to create PDF, rtf, and txt files all in the same folders. So for instance, I've got Folder1 and inside that is SubfolderA (which contains A.doc) and SubfolderB (which contains B.doc). I'd like the output to be Folder1\SubfolderA, and inside SubfolderA is A.pdf, A.txt, and A.rtf. SubfolderB would contain B.pdf, B.txt, and B.rtf.

3. So far, 3 other people on this committee have tried the macro on their computers, but it only works on mine (and all 3 of them have checked "Microsoft Scripting Runtime"). And I had to delete all the existing macros in Word to get mine to work -- it seems like I can only have 1 macro at a time. 1 of the computers doesn't do anything when we try to run the macro, and the other 2 give this error: Run-time error '76': Path not found" even though the path in the macro was edited to be correct for that machine. When you run the macro to save the files as text are you changing the actual output format type in the macro? My guess is that you are only changing the portion of the code that replaces the filename extension and not the actual file type. The portion of the code that I highlighted in red below should also be changed to FileFormat:=wdFormatText.

This problem has probably been addressed here before, but I haven't found it, so will ask it again. Word is supposed to allow data access from other files types such as Excel and Access, for mail merge source and other file linking. These file types are not recognized by Word. If I try to open an Excel file as a data source, all I get is a text file with garbage and a message box asking how to convert it.

I suspect it is a problem with OLE or DDE, but I don't know how to track it down. I've tried repairing the Office installation with no success.

Suddenly the Capitals lock comes on, and I cannot get it off. In order to get lower case letters, I have to put put on Capitals Lock, and vice versa. Unfortunately, in this Forum, once you've hit the "Post" button. That's what you've get, unless you grovel to FE and he makes the change with his Silver Mouse. But don't press your luck, he might weaken the once, but is unlikely to weaken a second time!
The technology is available but using it makes for sloppy composition and allows people to Post one thing and then change it, after others have replied, which might make them look stupid, which few of us admit too. A:Solved: Word Perfect- Word 2003 - word 2007

If you saved the file in the "new" Word 2007 format (with a file extension of .docx) then you will be unable to open it in the other applications.

For Word 2003 you can install a converter, but I know of no XLM converter for WordPerfect.

When using Word 2007 you need to "save as" Word 97-2003 format to retain backwards compatibility.

Hi,

My girlfriend's parents have a PC with 512MB of DDR PC3200 CL3 RAM installed and it's running fairly slow on XP.

There is a spare RAM slot and I have an older module of 512MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5 RAM from an old, now abandoned, PC.

Can I install that alongside their 3200 CL3 RAM (to make 1024MB / 1GB) or will it confuse and damage things?

A:(Solved) clipboard/file types

You need to paste the image that's on the clipboard into a blank (new) image in a graphics editing program. If you don't have good graphics/photo editing software, try Irfanview which is free and which you can download here. Be sure to get all the plugins, too.

Once you have the software installed and have pasted the picture into a new, blank image, you can edit it all you want, then do a "Save As," choosing the format you want (jpg is a common format) and you're good to go.

I'm not sure my question belongs in this venue and trust someone will kindly direct it elsewhere if applicable.

When I convert a document to a PDF file, Windows XP Pro automatically tries to open the new PDF file with Miscrosoft Office Picture Manager. Further, when opening a PDF file from Windows Exploder (pun intended) I have to go the extra step of telling Windows to "open with" Acrobat 6.0 or it will automatically try to open with Picture Manager.

What might I do to correct this annoyance?

Using VBA in Excel 2K. I may actually be on the verge of admitting that declaring variables does in some cases serve a purpose. Here's the task:

I have a list of 1500+ dates in column A from A2 & beyond. I need to ID those which match a defined month and year. So far I have:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sub Test()
Dim S_Month As Integer, S_Year As Integer
On Error GoTo 100

S_Month = Application.InputBox("Enter required month.")
S_Year = Application.InputBox("Enter required year.")

For Each Cell In Range("A2", Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))
If Month(Cell.Value) = S_Month And Year(Cell.Value) = S_Year Then
Cell.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
End If
Next Cell

100:

End Sub

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This works fine as long as the Dim line is in -- if not, it doesn't do squat. Thus I don't have an actual problem as such, however I do have a question. It appears to work just as well if S_Month and S_Year are As Date, so ... which ought it to be, & why?

Anyone who fancies a bash at answering this, I'd be grateful if you could (apologies to the bad guy from "Galaxy Quest") explain it to me as if I were a child.

TIA,
bomb

Hello all:
I have just one file I need help with. This file has symbols for 3800 stocks. Each line has only one stock symbol. My charting program will not accept Importing these symbols unless it has .asc or .txt extensions. It also must be in comma, space or tab delimited. That's my hangup. I hardly ever work with or understand comma, space or tab delimited.

All I understand so far is that when I am on any line and I hit the "end" key the cursor will move several spaces beyond the the last letter of the symbol.
All these stock symbols are either one, two, three or four letters yet there seems to be about 10 spaces between the first letter and where the cursor stops when the "end" key is hit.

How do I get rid of all those "blank" spaces on each line so the curson stops right after the last letter of each stock symbol when I hit "end" key??

Could this be done in MS Wordpad? I have Excel ver 7 (Yes it's old but hardly ever used) I kinda hate doing this by hand for 3800 lines. Any quick and easy way for a person who almost never gets into this "delimiting" stuff?
Thanks for suggestions. agpilot Win 98SE, Excel v7
Edit: I forgot to mention that the orignal file was .xls and I deleted the stock company names and saved just the symbols on each line as that's all I want.

It really depends on the motherboard - some are really fussy about RAM being closely matched, others aren't. Worst case, it simply won't work. Timing and speed-wise, RAM tends to simply settle to the lowest common denominator.

My keyboard produces weird characters on a row. Some of the keys even trigger programs to open; like, calculator or outlook and it did happen that the system was hibernating willest pressing a 'k (If i'm correct)'.
After some experimenting I saw that each character I pressed produces 4 to 5 different strings, like Lh{$3, 3:fo or things similar.

Anybody any ideas?

Thanks

For some reason my file types for MP3 which are associated with Winamp, have the icon for Nero Show Time... Doesn't matter what I do, I can't seem to get the icon to switch to a Winamp icon in my music folder. I can switch the icon in Options and File Types to the winamp icon, but when I go to my music folder the icon is still for Nero Show Time. Even after I reboot it's still the same.

This happened today after I updated Nero, before this things were fine.

Some things I tried...

If I click restore in Options and File Types it will restore and still be associated with Winamp, but the icon will change to the Nero Show Time icon. So it seems that the Nero Show Time icon is default, but the default player is Winamp..

I went to the Nero Show Time settings, but I can't seem to find any file type settings.

I cleaning the registry and rebooted...

I deleted the MP3 file type and set it up again..

Still no luck, any suggestions?

Thanks..

Hi,

I tried changing the icons for folders and drives etc manually using the edit file types tab in the folder options menu. I got the icons changed, but for some reason they folder or drives don't open now on double clicking. The default option for them has become open in Adobe bridge and change icon respectively. on right clicking i see the open option but the first option have become the aforementioned and they are on bold. In the advanced dialog box for file types, i see that no 'Open' function is there, only open in adobe bridge and find. How do i revert the settings?

Thanks for any help. Sorry, i screwed up so weirdly

Apparently there is an easy fix for the above.
Just hold the "fn" key and the "numlock" key at the same time.
I did it, am I'm back to normal. (The keyboard, that is).
How it got screwed up in the first place???
Hope others see this and it works for them.

Hi,

I have two quick questions:

1. How do I make Vista display the same sorting options on the top in every single folder I view?

2. How do I know which "type" a folder is? I've changed the default view for a folder with mixed contents (documents, videos...etc), and applied it to all folders with the same "type". Now a lot of folders that aren't similar have that view I've specified, so I'd like to avoid that.

Appreciate your help

Hello,

I recently installed Microsoft IME for Japanese so I could type in it. I went to go make a document in word, but I noticed it would only type in a box that popped up in the upper left corner of my screen and not in the actual word document. I found this very strange because it didn't do that on my other hard drive. Once I finished typing a word out and pressed enter it showed up in word, but when I try to type the next word that box disappears and I can longer see what I'm typing. However, I am still typing because I will type and a word, press enter, and then the word shows up word again, but I can't visually see what I am typing UNLESS I start a new line by pressing Enter. I've looked all over google and I have found nothing on this. Please help!! It is so annoying, I just want to be able to see what I am typing letter by letter, just like how I was while typing this forum.

i was clicking around in the folders options menu, at the file types tab. i mustve have done something wrong bcos now all my folders and my drives, whenever i double click it it opens the search (as in the search tool in windows), so then i went to the only available option there: i clicked on advance under "FILE FOLDER" and "DRIVE" and under the actions list there it says "find". which means, i assume that whenever i double click any file folder or drive (usually it would open to its contents) but now it opens up in the search window.

ive tried so many times and clicked on set to default under the file types options, but it doesnt seem to help.
so now whenever i want to open a file folder i have to right click and select open.

Dear forum,

I am having a problem with file associations in that the options in Folder Options/File Types are grayed out. These are the New, Delete, Change and Advanced buttons. I noticed that I had a problem with my associations when my computer stopped keeping the changes I made using the Open With/Choose Program method. I installed Foobar2000 media player today and when I tried to associate media files within the configuration preferences I get the error message "An error occurred while changing file type associations. If you are using a limited account, please contact your system administrator."

The above lead me to believe I have a problem with administrator privileges so I checked if I was logged on as the Administrator but that account was hidden. Have career (job search) and financial files from '99 that were moved via floppy disk, tape, CD, or e-mail from old NT 4.0 to newer NT 4.0 box and then to current W2K box. On latter two boxes these files produced 'access restricted' errors and were inaccessible. I've kept them in hopes of someday being able to reaccess the data. These file types include doc, txt, html, MS Money data, and possibly another one or two. In other words, file type is not the issue. I was on the old boxes and am on the W2K box THE administrator, and I have tried everything from renaming, taking ownership, changing permissions for folder and file, and still cannot access them. The current drive and previous drive were both NTFS, but I may have had a problem on a FAT drive also, although that is vague in my mind.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello:

I am using windows XP pro with SP2 installed.

I have somehow managed to loose the ability to open folders in the Windows Explorer pane by double clicking on them. Instead, a double click opens the Search Files feature.

How this happened was NOT by altering viewing options.

I recently went to support at microsoft.com to add print directory functionality to Windows Explorer. I found article ID#272623 "how to add the print directory feature to Windows Explorer. The url for this article is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272623/en-us?FR=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH

I followed the instructions as closely as I could although it wasn't exactly the same as described.

That is:
after clicking on 'tools' in explorer clicking on 'Folder Options' then 'File Types' and then 'File Folder' I could not find the edit button.
I clicked on ADVANCED then NEW and found the 'New Action' dialog box.
I entered "Print Directory Listing" in the 'Action' box and browsed until I found the file I had created as instructed by the above article.
I then clicked OK and backed out of the rest of the windows.

I tried to undo what I had done but to no avail as I cannot remove the 'Print Directory Listing' action from the list in the advanced File Folder TAB. The edit button is greyed out as is the remove button.

Click once with the left mouse button on the menu choice "Format Picture"

Select the "Layout" tab

In the section called "Wrapping Style" click once with the left mouse button on "Square"

Beneath where it says Horizontal alignment click once with the left mouse button on "Right"

Click on OK

You should be able to type text to the left of the picture.

In the project explorer window you will see a folder called "Modules" that you can open to show all the modules attached to the document. These modules is where you VBA code is stored. You can right click each module and selection the option to export to the location of your choice. Once exported you can copy or save them to another machine and then re-import them by openining the VB editor on the other compuer and choosing FILE >> IMPORT.

Can WORD 2000 do this? So far, all I can figure out is how to highlight either an entire word, sentence, or line, but none of them with the precision that WordPerfect 5.1 allowed.

Hey all,

I am still learning the beginning parts of C. What I want to do here is take input from the user, for example ...

"Awesome input man"

And have it split word by word into different sections of an array. So ...

array[0] would hold "Awesome".
array[1] would hold "input"
array[2] would hold "man".

This way I can read them individually later on for processing. Could anyone lead me in the right direction here? As of now I am using the command line arguments for the user to run my program then on that same line type a command, then another command if he/she wishes and so on. But I do not want to use the command line arguments. I want the program to be run, then ask the user for input and when he/she puts input in, it breaks it down like stated above.

Thank you all in advance!

To save files as Office 97-2003 files, just click the file menu (the very top left button), go to Save As and click the arrow to the right of it, then click on (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) 97-2003 Document.

Okay.
So this will probably be one of those 'easiest to answer questions', but I've looked around and I cant find the answer anywhere.

When you're looking at RAM. It has all the stuff listed about it, but there is a label that's

PC#####

So the mobo I was looking at, says Memory Speed: PC10600 (DDR3 1333)

So I get all the DDR3 and 1333 and stuff, but if it says PC10600, can I get Ram with different numbers like PC10666 or will it not work?

Or is that just a different way to say speed and I can change it to whatever I want, but PC10600 is the mobo's max?

Hi, I am getting a 1gb stick of RAM for Christmas, and I was wondering which of these two is better. I don't know which one, but they are stated below. They are both Kingston, which I believe is a good brand from what I've heard. Here is the link to the website of my motherboard. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KM4M-V&class=mb

RAM 1
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con...asp?root=&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KVR266X64C25/1G

RAM 2
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con...asp?root=&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KVR333X64C25/1G

In your reply, please post the link of which RAM is better to make it easier, thanks.

A:Which of these RAM Types is better?

The 333mhz ram is faster but it will all depend on what speed ram your pc has in it already unless you plan to replace it completely.

Do you know what ram speeds your mobo supports?

You should never ever mix different ram speeds unless you really want an unstable pc.

hi, i would like to know what kind of hdds there are (gard drive disks) and what the difference is. (Ex. ATA SATA) ands ore what kind of wire do they use and the benifits.

Thanks

A:Different types of hdd's

ATA is the current standard, it uses regular molex power connectors and IDE cables.

SATA is a newer product (also SATA2 is already in development) - it is faster than ATA and uses different cables - much thinner and neater.

Also take into consideration the RPM of the drive, 5400 is a bit slow, 7200 is good, 10,000 is fast but can be quite noisy.

Servers generally use 10k rpm SCSI hard drives, but SCSI is unusual in home computers.

Most motherboards only have IDE connections and so can only take ATA, you would need a new-ish motherboard for SATA hard drives.

The capacity that you need is simply dependant on how much you plan on saving to your hard-drive. Usually from 40GB upwards

Hi I am thinking of upgrading my p/c's ram, I have a Time computer 500mhz, 64mb sdram, with 13gb h/d.
I have been on the net searching for the best deals, and crucial.com seems to be the best. They advise me that I can put a max 256mb in, on that basis I am going to put 128mb in to start with ( my pocket cant stretch 256mb just yet lol ). My questions are what is the diff between ...... pc100 and pc133 ? as there is only a few pounds in it I want the best of the two. Also ( silly question here ) can I leave the 64mb stick in or do I gota take it out before I can put the new stick in ? Thanks in advance

Hello all,
im having a problem understanding something. When i was teching myself vb i used to download code and learn from it. I once downloaded a space invaders game, within this game the programmer used something which i still cannot understand.
he made a type called:

private type missile
x as integer
y as integer
end type

dim Themissle(10) as missile

Well actually to be honest i think he done this, what happened was that when i pressed space bar a missle would launch from my ship, he used bitblt to achive this. he had a counter for the max number of missles he had and once they had gone to zero they would then reload.

THE PROBLEM:
how did he achive this
when i pressed spacebar twice two missles would lanch and if i pressed it again another would follow no matter where on the screen my ship was.

this is my attempt
BitBlt Picture3.hDC, Picture1.Left, thex, Picture2.ScaleWidth, Picture2.ScaleHeight, Picture2.hDC, 0, 0, SRCCOPY

see the thing is if i reset the value of thex then the previous missle will start again from the beggining. im confused if someone could help me understand this i would be very happy. i just cannot get around the problem ive tried everything i know.

Thank you

Hi, I'm relatively new to DVD burning and have been meaning to ask about DVD types for some time but chickened out til now in case I appeared stupid (sniffle)
Believe me, I've tried to look it up on the net but am still not sure, then when I asked at the local computer shop I was left punch drunk by a barrage of unfathomable techy-talk..

Firstly, There are 4 types, right? namely-
DVD-R
DVD-RW
DVD+R
DVD+RW

Secondly what does the '-' and '+' signify?

Third,why do people use the R (write-once) types?
I mean, why not use the RW (re-writeable) ones all the time so they can write new data over them in the future?

A:DVD types?

- Osta.orgThe distinctions in the types are actually based on how the data is written to and read from the disk- Afterdawn.comHope that helps.

Buying new P4 pc ... largely for gaming. My local shop wants to sell me PC800 RAMBUS 256megs. What's the difference between SDRAM, RDRAM and DDR RAM?? Where does the above PC800 RAMBUS fit in this scheme? Any recommendations?

A:Please explain types of RAM

Depends on who you talk to as per there personal preferec how ever Rambus is mucyh faster up to 10 times that of sdram(pc 133 pc100) and faster than DDR. However it is only because it operates on a 400mhz+ bus speed. Currently there are no real programs that can take advantagre of the higher bus so it is kinda half dozen one or the other. If you are looking towards the future DDR or Rambus is the only way to go. And if you are looking at Gaming in My opinion you can not go past a AMD which works at 9 opereations per clock cycle compared to the 5 for a P4. But there again it is who you talk to. I own a small computer co in Victoria Australia and recieved a few memos recently from Intel pushing the DDR to bring down the price of there systems... but i ramble. Really it is a personal pref and if money is really no object i would go with the Rambus.
One more thing try looking into this combo it is kick *** for gaming as i currently have 3 machines running them

Amd k7 XP 1900C
Epox 8KHA+ Motherboard DDR (plus epox CPU cycle can run up to 200mhz and more to come in the following weeks with a simple bios flash)
512 DDR 2100
64MB Geforce2 GTS DDR (which actually out preforms several categories compared to the Geforce 3, or so mad onion tells me..lol)

Compared to a P4 it may save you a few bucks and is really quit a kick *** Gaming machine But then again I prefer AMD i prefer speed not so call stability...lol... P4's kick *** to however

Have fun

I recently got a bare-bones system (ie basically just the case/ps and the motherboard). I'm not that familiar with the differences between different Intel processors (I'm form the AMD camp).
The link for the description says "Willimett" or "Northwood", but most all that I can find is "Prescott". I'd like to find out if I can slap a Prescott into it or not.

Here is the link:
http://www.txmicro.com/details.htm?productid=7E-3543

Ideally, I'd like to find a processor that will run in it that has that can do hyper-threading (running the int unit and the fp unit like to virtual processors). I'd like it to be inexpensive as well since I'm trying to keep it on the cheap side.

thank you for your time;

Hi, my computer had started to crash showing a Blue Screen and i'm quite in a rush so i leave you the dump file here so you can help me find a solution...

The message on BSOD had variegated from "IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL", "SERVICE SYSTEM_EXCEPTION" and another that i can't remember

I have this OS installed since August 2010

If you can give me a cause quickly i will apreciate that
please

A:BSOD various types

Your Deamon Tools or Alcohol120% software is the cause

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

What are the different types of "formatting" HDD's?

I know that you can format an HDD so you would have to reinstall your os, drivers...and...everything...

I've heard that you can format a drive so you're just "repairing" windows, and you won't lose programs, files, etc...

I've heard that you can format a drive so you won't lose files, but you will lose programs and other things....

I've heard that you can format a drive so you don't completely wipe the drive of everything, but simply install a fresh copy of windows, but you do erase all files, programs, etc...(but not drivers?)

So basically if you could please list the different ways of "formatting" an HDD, and how you would do them...that would be awesome. I'm just trying to learn what I can about computers... I want to major in something in the field of computer science when I am in college (2 more years...so I gotta hurry) ^_^
