Outlook Express - Not working, "Address book not found" message

Q: Outlook Express - Not working, "Address book not found" message

ok, so I cleaned up all the old programs that I do not use any longer and deleted them from the control panel, add/remove programs, rebooted and about a day or so tried to open up outlook express. the program opened up but I can not "Expand" an email by double cliking it OR I can not even reply to an email as I get the attached screen shots of the error messages I recieve.

I did have this problem a while back but for the life of me I can not remember how it was corrected.

are you able to assist?

thank you

Purchased a copy of office 2003 (downloaded from the internet complete with serial number) - loaded over the top of an office 2000 program - loaded no bother - now I am unable to access Outlook Express and get the message "The address book failed to load. Outlook express is incorrectly configured, please reinstall". When I attempt to open emails I get a message "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred". My operating system is Windows XP with the latest patch. Any assistance in resolving this would be much appreciated

Found a solution - not the quickest but it worked - uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled XP over the top as per Microsoft article ID 315341 - the real time waste was having to reinstall all the XP patches

I am getting ready to install windows 98 again on my new system, and I'd rather not have to re-enter all my email addresses into the address book. Anyone know how to save this file? I've checked out several files marked "address book," but none of them seem to store my addresses.

Thanks!

A:how do I save "address book" file in Outlook Express

I am not postitive but i think they are saved in .WAB or .CVS files. With OE open you can go to files>export>address book and i think that it can be saved to a floppy. I tried it as a .cvs(comma separated values) and saved it to floppy which when opened looked like an Excel file. I tried the other option but had no option i could see to save it to a floppy and even though it said it was exported, i dont know where it went.

Hi, I just got a new laptop and I'm trying to export/import my address book from Outlook Express. When I import the addresses it only imports individual names and not "groups." It there a way to import groups as well? When I exported the address book from the old laptop I used the "text file (comma separated values)" option. Is this the right one to use?
Thanks.

Bob

A:"Outlook Express" Export/Import Address Book

Hi 2praisehim

No, it will not Export the Groups, you will need to recreate them.
The .csv file is the best backup, this format makes it available to Import to other programs.

As an alternative, you can make a copy of the .wab file and copy it over to the new computer.
To find the location of the original Address Book,
Open the Address Book in Outlook Express:
Tools > About Address Book
The directory will appear along with the name of the .wab file, which usually is the User Account name.wab

Navigate to that directory and copy the .wab file.
Copy the .wab file to the Desktop on the laptop,
find the location of the Address Book for Outlook Express,
Check this directory on the Laptop,
C:\Documents and Settings\User Account\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\User Account.wab
rename the .wab file to User Account.wab.old
Copy the backup .wab file to that directory and rename it to the same name as the current .wab file: User Account.wab

In Outlook Express, click the Address Book icon to open, the replaced Address Book should appear.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

People,

A friend of mine asked me this question about her Address Book (in Outlook) on her work PC; & it really stumped me...so I thought someone here might have run across it, or knew of an answer:

She opens her Address Book in Outlook; & her Contacts aren't listed. She hits the Contacts button; & gets an error message that states something about a problem with an executable file. She hits OK; & Outlook shuts down.

Has anyone ever heard of this? This is not a common problem, right?

Thanks for any help,

When I want to send a new email, I click on "new" and then click again on the "to" field and my address book then pops up with all my contacts.

The problem is that not only does it show their email address but also all their phone and fax numbers as a separate item e.g. a contact who has an email, phone and fax will be listed three times

This really clogs up the address book as obviously I can't send an email to a phone or fax number but if I try to say delete the fax number it deletes the entire contact in the process!

Is there any way I can make the address book show ONLY the email addresses and not all the other garbage?

Then it prompts me to enter the location of dustingfingerprints. I guess it thinks this is the program to enter weblinks?

Hi guys I work for an ISP and embarrassingly I am really stumped with this one. I have a customer using Outlook Express every he try's to compose an email OE try's to force him to create a contact and its annoying him. Every time he clicks send it comes up "no matches found" he is using XP I did a google search but only found information regarding this issue related to 98 and 95 none of the resolutions applied to XP.

Sadly my XP machine is out of action at the moment and I cant tinker with it, your help is much appreciated.

A:OUTLOOK EXPRESS "NO MATCHES FOUND" ERROR

After 4 years with no answer, I hope this helps someone else and saves the obligatory 1/2 hour searching dead posts with no helpful solution (in 2 minutes flat).

HERE'S HOW TO 'FIX' THE 'NO ADDRESS FOUND' ERROR: (1.) Open Address book and simply double click on the faulty contact entry. (2.) The 'Properties' window should pop up, now click on 'name' tab and add a dash after the 'last' name field entry. The 'display' field should reflect the additional dash after the name. (3.) Now click 'OK' to save changes then close the address book. (4.) Now create a new message and begin typing the contact name which should auto-fill the name showing a dash after name. Now it should work, BUT the extra dash may be seen by the recipient. TRY ADDING A DIFFERENT CHARACTER AFTER THE NAME IF DASH LOOKS FUNNY. GOOD LUCK ----dUCKBILL

IF ANYONE HAD EVER ENCOUNTERED THE FOLLOWING SITUATION, PLEASE GIVE ME A HAND. WILL APPRECIATE.

I use the "Outlook Express" for my email for years, no problem.
I had been using ISP for my email server and have my own email account set up, so far so good.
I had checked the box "delete from mail server after deleting from trash" and it works out just good. This is because, no need to log-on the mail server each time to clean up the read emails by hand, this way could release enough space for receiving email. Is because the ISP charge on over-quota space for emails, or just will block excess emails over the allowed space.
The problem started, when a friend told me could set the email folder away from the hard-drive C, I set it as per his suggestion. Then, the "auto-cleaning function" stopped performing.
I asked the ISP and was told because "Outlook Express" is designed by Mircosoft Inc. so they could not help.
Then, I set it back to the "defaulted folder", but the function could not be recovered.
This is quite annoying that I have to log-on the email server and clean up the emails daily by hand.

Hello tech helper(s),

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I am running XP on a vanilla PC, and have installed IE 7 and Outlook Express 6. I updated IE 7 just last night, to make sure that that is all in order.

All works except for one thing, and it's so frustrating! When I am in Outlook Express, with my Inbox populated by many messages, and I try to do a "Find Message" on that folder, all that happens is that I get a blank results window, regardless of what search criteria I select.

I searched the forum and found one relevant message from long ago, but the answer to that message is not helpful to me.

I've tried various antidotes. I could try to re-install Outlook Express, but doing so seems challenging. And I fear losing my Inbox messages altogether if I do that.

If you can give any advice, I'll appreciate that. In fact, I'm so desparate I'm willing to pay for some effective help.

Thank you,

Hello: I have this problem quite often when downloading my email through Outlook Express. It always occurs at the start of the day, never during the day, although I do “Send/Receive” dozens of times a day.

My email appears to download normally, but then I get this error message:
<<Message number 1 could not be retrieved. Account: 'pop3.phonecoop.coop', Server: 'pop3.phonecoop.coop', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Can't open the message file - it's gone!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD>>>

Sometimes this message is followed by several more, beginning “Message number 2 could not be retrieved ...” and so on.

I know for sure of at least two recent emails which have been sent but which I’ve never received. Could this be why?

I have three questions:
1. What is this and can I fix it?
2. Can I stop it happening again?
3. Are the emails which couldn't be retrieved lost forever? Or is there any way I can read them, or at least find out who they came from, so I can ask for them to be re-sent?

(Actually, that’s about five questions, but what am I - a statistician?)

Many thanks for any help - what a great site this is.

Does anyone know what it means when messages in the Sent Mail folder in Outlook Express have a header line "This message is being Watched"? This appears in a beige bar above the "From" line in the email. All my emails prior to 12/2/01 show this message, and none after that date show it -- and of course the Microsoft help site provided absolutely no information.

A:Outlook Express "watched" message

From a newsgroup thread:

"From outlook express' help:

In both mail and news, you can watch a conversation that is of particular
interest you. A conversation is an original message and all its replies.

In your Inbox or newsgroup message list, select the conversation you wish to
watch, and on the Message menu, click Watch Conversation.
If your message list's Watch/Ignore column is turned on, the watch icon
will appear next to all the messages of a watched conversation.

Tip
You can customize the color of your watched messages to make them stand out
better. Click the Tools menu, and then click Options. On the Read tab, at
the end of the Highlight watched messages with the color line, select the
color you want, and then click OK."

Cheers,

Hello,

I'm a new member but have gotten a lot of useful info from this forum over the past couple months, thank you! Hopefully someone can help with this issue.

I have a user at my work who is having an issue in Outlook 2003. When she replies to or forwards a message, the spell check is checking the entire document even though she has the "ignore original message text in replies and forwards" option checked. Here's some info on her setup:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Microsoft Office Standard Service Pack 3
Does not have the "prefix" option set
Uses Word as the email editor

I have read in other forums that opting to not use Word as the email editor can cure this issue, but all of our users use Word as their email editor. Also, this issue just appeared out of nowhere a couple days ago. Possibly a windows update?

Please help!

I'll be referring to the image above. The second image that has to do with Outlook Express directly was caused directly after merging some partitions and then changing drive letters. I was using Partition Magic so Drive Mapper supposedly changed all references in the registry. I checked with Microsoft's solution to the problem, but it was of no help (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191946). I would like to just completely remove Outlook Express if I could. As I was following the instructions, I deleted the registry keys I was supposed to which I think led to the first error message you see. I'm not completely sure though, it could have also been because I applied the Windows Vista Transformation Pack.

A:"Address Book failed to load" + Invalid root

*bump* Also, I should say that before the Outlook message used to pop up constantly (every 20 seconds or so) and I've gotten it to only pop up at startup by removing those registry entries.

I am trying to transfer my Thunderbird address book to Webmail 5.2.2 and keep getting the "failed to import" error message. I export the Thunderbird file with .csv format and believe I am following all the other directions correctly but keep getting the error message. Does anyone have a clue on what might be going wrong? Thank you!

I am including The Webmail instructions here:

Webmail offers you the ability to import a list of contacts from another mail application. Currently, only the Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2003, Express 6, and Thunderbird CSV file formats are supported. Remember, each contact will be added to the All group regardless of the destination group to which you import your CSV file.

To import a contact list

Click the import destination group in the application pane.
The group window opens in the List pane.
Click Manage Contacts.
Click the Import tab.
Choose the import file format from the drop-down list.
Browse to the contact file you want to upload.
Click the file to select it.
Click the Open button.
Choose the group that will contain the new contacts from the drop-down list.
Click Import.

Webmail will import the contents of the file and assign the contacts to the All group.

How can I make my address book display display mobile phone numbers? I managed to synchronize my mobile phone address book with Outlook Express 6, using a USB cable. Now I want to download it to my address book on my new mobile phone. (This should be much easier than just putting in the sim card, as my sim only holds 250 contacts, wheareas the mobile phone itself holds lots more, & it's very fiddly switching sim cards, then copying from card to phone, deleting from card, back into old phone, copying again, etc. etc...) But before that, I want to check over my address book to delete old, duplicated & unwanted contacts. The problem is, when I display my address book, it lists Name, E-Mail Address, Business Phone, & Home Phone. I cannot find a way of making it list Mobile Phone, even though this info is stored on it; if I click on any entry & click Properties, it correctly lists Mobile under the Summary tab, also Mobile number can be edited under Home tab.

In Outlook Express Help, search for address book mobile lists ... 0 topics found.

Any ideas? Thanks

the Adress Book failed to load, Outlook Express is incorrectly configured , please re-install.

Outlook express 6 was working fine but I went to send an email out with several addresses and it would kick it back. I then got a single email and couldn't open it.
I saved my messages and accounts in the stored folder and I saved my address book in csv. as told to by micro soft support. I uninstalled the outlook in both the add/remove ( windows components area) and I think when doing a change in registry they suggested too. I think I may have deleted something.
I tried a restore of the computer but it didn't work. I do have a earlier registry saved on my desktop but don't know how to restore that.
All this happened the night of the big updates from microsoft too. I even took off my email scan.
I have got outlook express working again but it gives me the above message each time I reload it.
I changed some of the files that had wab to old and in the registry I set the data to (0) at the dword area. I even changed the idenities in window explorer too. But I can't get the address book to load. I also can't import my messages that I saved , there is a blank in the wizard when transfering (no programs like outlook express). Like I said the accounts imported fine. I have a xp pro thinkpad with about 1.5mhz , 1GB ram, with office but I never used outlook, just outlook express. Thank you for the help.

Evidently Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer and cannot be installed separately.

How can I get an address book so my Outlook Express will work correctly?

A:Outlook Express Address Book

I really don't think just adding an address book file will help you because if I am not mistaken, Outlook Express usally creates a new blank address book if it doesn't find one in the default directory. If you want to give it a try anyways, I have attached a blank address book to this message. Just save the attachment and change the file extension from .txt to .wab and then copy it to the directory that normally contains your Outlook Express Address Book. The path will be something similar to what I have typed below. If you can't find the path, just search for the directory called "Address Book" and dump the file into there. What is the exact error message that you are getting?
LOCATION OF ADDRESS BOOK

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

I have over 13 years of Outlook Express folders and addresses that I desperately need to convert to Outlook 2007. I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates.

The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format.

Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

I welcome any suggestions.

I have tried to import my .WAB file from Microsoft Office Outlook 2002 to Outlook Express. I used File, Import from within Outlook Express. I select the .wab file to import, and I get a message in about 1/2 a second saying it has been done but no addresses are imported.
Do you have to have both programs open? Is there another way to import addresses into OE?

A:Transfering address book from outlook express

There are two ways you can do this. The first way is to copy and paste your .WAB file from its original location on the first PC to the same location on the second PC. It will be located in a path similar to the one below.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Find the file with an extension of .WAB in the path above and copy it to a floppy. Put the floppy into the second PC and browse to the same location above and paste the copied .WAB

Make sure Outlook Express is closed when you copy and paste the address book file. If this method doesn't work you can follow the steps below to export the address book to a Comma Seperated Text file which can be imported by the second PC.
HOW TO EXPORT ADDRESS BOOK

Select Tools --> Address Book from the menu in Outlook Express.

On the address book window Choose File --> Export --> Other Address Book

Select Text File (Comma Separated Values) as the export format.

Click Export.

Select the location you want to export your address book to using the Browse button and give your backup a meaningful name.

Click Next.

Select the fields you want to include in your backup.

Click Finish.

Click OK.
TO IMPORT BACK INTO OUTLOOK EXPRESS

Select Tools --> Address Book from the menu in Outlook Express.

On the address book window select File -->Import --> Other Address Book

Highlight Text File (Comma Separated Values).

Click Import.

Use the Browse button to select... Read more

For about 2 days I have been trying to work my way through sorting out this problem that has suddenly appeared. But I am getting nowhere fast. I am unable to reply to my emails as everytime I try I get this error "Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install it." I have tried to reinstall, followed instructions in one of your forums re: wab file etc, looked at Microsoft outlook express support pages, searched google for suggestions etc but still got the same problem. I've just HAD to change from Windows XP (thank you so much, Microsoft; f**k you...) to a refurbished machine running Windows 7. The old machine had Outlook Express; the new one has Outlook 2007.

I've transferred all the e-mails I need to keep (by forwarding them one by one; a pain, but it worked), but now I need to import my address book. I copied it to a memory stick as a .wab file, and it's now on my desktop. If I have the inbox displayed, and click on 'search inbox', then click in the drop-down box on 'search desktop', there the data are. Not in alphabetical order, as they were when downloaded, but there.

How do I get the info into my address book? Please help.

A:Address Book import from Outlook Express

I went from Outlook Express to Thunderbird 4 or 5 years ago.

I don't remember all the details, but I eventually got it done. Importing and exporting stuff in mail programs is generally a major pain and very cumbersome.

My father's note running win8, has suddenly decided that the address book in outlook express (ie6)is corrupt and it must be re-installed. I have looked around the web and this seems to be a fairly common problem, however the correction of this seems fairly complex, surely Microsoft must have come up with a quick fix to this problem, especially as it seems of their making, what with faulty updates and the complexity of outlook and outlook express.
Please does anyone have a simple resolution to this problem, that we both can understand.
Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.

A:Corrupted Address Book in Outlook Express

The last Outlook Express was in Windows XP. This is no longer supported (for fixes). Surely he has a backup he can recover from (or should).

I use an older Outlook 2003 (which is the same as Windows XP - no longer supported by Microsoft) but it still works flawlessly even with all the updates. I still use Outlook 2003, but in the process of evaluating other e-mail programs and seriously considering the free Thunderbird. That may be an alternative for your father's old Outlook Express.

Hi Anyone..

Just recently my address book has gotton jumbled, and contacts are now not in alphabetical order. I'm not sure what happened. I have checked Tools, Properties, and am seeing nothing giving me the option to re arrange them back in order. If worse comes to worse, I may have to write them all down on paper. Delete the complete address book and replace them one at a time. What a hastle that will be. I have done a Virus scan, with nothing shown or picked up. I don't recall doing anything out of the ordinary to cause it to happen.

Does anyone have any other iedas how I can get them back in order.? I may have overlooked some option that may exist, but I'm sure there isn't one.

Any help or advice would greatly appreciated..

A:How Do I Transfer My Outlook Express Address Book

Welcome to the site. Moving your addresses from one computer to another can be done fairly quickly. This does require a floppy or other storage to store the address book onto which you will then use on the new computer. Follow these steps in the order given:1. ?On the old computer open up outlook express.

2. ?On the old computer click on File, then click on export, then click on address book.

3. ?A new window will come up asking what type of file you want to export the addresses to. ?Click once on "Text File (Comma Seperated Values) and press export.

4. ?A box will come up asking you to type the name that you would like the file to saved as . ?In that field type: A:\addresses.csv and press next.

5. ?On the next screen put a checkmark in all the boxes, and then click finish. ?The file should be saved to your floppy.

6. ?On the new computer open outlook express.

7. ?Take the floppy out of your old computer and put it into your new computer. ?

8. ?Click on File, then click on Import, then click on Other Address Book.

9. ?A new window will come up asking what type of file you want to import the addresses from ?Click once on "Text File (Comma Seperated Values) and press import.

10. In the next window, type A:\addresses. And press import.

11. On the next screen make sure all the boxes have checks in them.

12. Then press finish. ?All your addresses should be imported onto the new computer.Hope this helps.

I am new to forums, so please bear with me.

I have used Outlook Express for several years and have never used Microsoft Outlook for my email. The vs of Outlook Express is OL 6 6.00.2600.0000. I have Windows XP SP3. I just recently had print problems with Word and Excel and removed and re-installed Microsoft Office 97. After re-imstalling Microsoft Office, I started to send an Email with Outlook Express. I went to the address book for the email address I wanted to use. I clicked on Address, then highlighted a name in Address Book, Clicked "Action" then "Send Mail" (normally at this point it takes you to the "input form" for the email and inserts the email address into the form) at the point mentioned above, it brought up a form for the Email with the email address inserted into the form.

However, this was not the Outlook Express email form, it was a Microsoft Outlook form. When I filled out the email form and clicked send. The form closed, but it does not send the email.

I assume that when I re-installed Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook somehow took over my address book and since it is not my email browser it is not configured to work with Outlook Express. (I realize now, that I should not have allowed Microsoft Outlook to install.)

I am at a loss as to how to reconfigure my address book back to Outlook Express. Outlook Express is still my email browser and I can click on "Create Email" and it will send an email. But without my ... Read more

Hi alder343

Yet another way to locate your .dbx files,

In Outlook Express, Tools>Options>Maintenance tab,
Click on the Store Folder button to see the directory in which your .dbx files are stored.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to that directory, if you still cannot see your .dbx files you will need to change your options in Windows Explorer:

Outlook Express 6.01 and address book won't work. OE won't come up and address book only saves entries to the shared identity option instead of the main identity option.

I called Microsoft and they suggested that Outlook Express needs to be deleted through the registry. They referred me to KB Article 263387. All of the steps in this article were carefully completed several times and I was unsuccessful at deleting Outlook Express and the address book from the registry. While completing these steps, the address book quit working and Outlook Express started showing up. However, if you clicked on address book or main identity in Outlook Express it would shut down.

Microsoft also had me try their OE Deletion Tool known as OE5REGCLEAN.exe. It didn't work as well. I would be willing to export a copy of my registry to anyone who wants to take a look at it.

Mickeysoft agreed to escalate the problem to their research department, but after several calls, they abandoned me. They didn't call me back and they dismissed me.

The deepest darkest mysteries of the universe are in my operating system.
Can anyone figure this out?

My Dell computer is currently using Windows XP Operating System. For email, the program I use is Outlook Express 6. Several days ago, a short power outage caused the contents of my email Address Book to totally disappear. The same was true for copies of emails which had been received or sent. No one has been able to restore the vital contents (email addresses) in the Address Book. Obviously no one, including myself, can remember everyone's email address. This has caused a serious problem. I am hoping that someone knows of a way to restore the contents of the Address Book. Incidentally, there was no error message of any kind --- it just happened when the power outage occurred. Thanks.

A:export aol address book to outlook express

AOL makes it virtually impossible to export their address book to any other emial client. The only way I have been able to do it is to copy and paste one at a time.

Some have sent a message from AOL to everyone in their address book, inclucing their own new POP address . . after setting OE to " Save Addresses of people I reply to in Address Book" then doing a "Repy All to the note they sent from AOL.

Not the most elegant solution, but it seems to work.

My workmate sent me an e-mail and quickly learned it went to many people in her address book.

She has XP Home on a laptop and Outlook Express.

She works remotely from me and I can get more info if needed.

She reports that in the TO: box she entered the first few letters of my name and my full name popped up as it always does and she says she sent the e-mail to me as she always does and did not enter any further names or make any reference to the Address Book.

When I received the e-mail, my name was first, followed by many other names. In her Sent Messages box the TO: line shows all the other names.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

She insists that she did not do anything different than she always does.

Any chance Facebook has something to do with this?

I asked her to see if the message went to her entire addressbook or just part of it, and if only part of it, whether there is some pattern among the recipients. She'll report back in a few hours.

Obviously, we need to get to the bottom of this!

A:[SOLVED] Outlook Express--e-mail went to most of address book--

.........

I was concerned that a worm or virus did this misdeed. The email had an attachment and I know that's how viruses are spread so I was very suspicious.

Overly suspicious.

I sat at the sending computer and studied the 'sent message'.

Only about 25% of the contacts in the addressbook were sent the message.

My workmate noted that most of these people had been active in a certain project at about the same time.

....and then I found out she had sent a :cc to herself on her home computer.

....and then we discovered that in her addressbook was a group with a name starting with the same letter as her own name......

....and.....you guessed it, in the cc: line she must have accidentally listed the group instead of her own name.....

.......she was in a hurry to get the task done......and I think we found a logical explanation for the result......

Live and learn!

I am woring on a computer running win XP SP2. In outlook Express, the address book won't open giving the message "unable to open address book. Addresss Book may not be installed properly". Also, the forward, reply, and create new buttons give the message that it cannot do those tasks. I tried going to add and remove programs/ add or remove windows components and I removed Internet Exporer and OE and then reinstalled them to no avail. I have been on Microsoft.com and tried some of their fixes. Same results. I cannot find a .wab file in the computer. Finally after much stress and frustration, I finally started an online virus scan which immediatly picked up two viruses. Unfortunately, I did not write them down. The owner had done a virus scan before I got there so that was why I didn't try that sooner. My question is, would the viruses cause this to happen and if not what is your suggestion for fixing the problem.

Thank you.

How do I import my old Outlook express address book with groups into a new installation of Outlook Express?

I got a new computer and would like to import my address book from the old computer. I saved the old address book but when I try to import it into the new computer it loses all of the folders and groups and puts everything into the main contacts list.

Note that it is OE to OE not OE to Outlook.

If I knew where the main address book is stored I could probably just rename the old address book the same as the main book and overwrite it.

Can anybody help me?

A:How do I import my outlook express address book with groups

On your old computer open OE and click on File, Export, Address Book. Choose Text file (comma seperated values) and press Export. Enter the place you want to save the address list, for example a floppy in your floppy drive, which would be :

a:\address.csv

Press next and put a checkmark in each box and then press finsih.

It will create the floopy on your floppy. Put that floppy in the new machine, and this time after opening OE, click on File, then Import, then Other Address Book, and select text file(comma seperated values) and press import. Specify the file a:\address.csv and press next.

Put a check in each box and press finish. You should now have all your addresses imported.

I am trying to 'transfer' a contact group in Outlook Express from one computer to another. When I isolate the Contact Group and perform the 'Import' function, the process proceeds to import the entire address book, rather than the specific Contact Group.

Any help here?

Thanks.

I am trying to import an address book from comcast to outlook express. I have saved the file "contacts.csv" to my desktop as instructed by comcast but when I try to import the file to outlook express, i get a message that says the file cannot be found.
I have no choice in the naming of the file (like MS Outlook address book.csv) only what comcast names it.
Any suggestions as to what I can do.
Many thanks, mima

Last week I set up a new Dell for my mom and got her on the 'net. The only problem is that the Address Book button in Outlook Express 6 will not work. I can access Address Book from the start menu fine and set up her contacts that way. Whenever Outlook Express 6 is open and I click the address book button however, the contacts at the lower left and the address book button itself just flicker. Very strange. The computer also has Office XP installed from her business and wanted to make Outlook the default email handler, she wanted to stick with Outlook Express so that is how it is set up (if that would have had anything to do with it). My guess is not as I also run Office XP with OE6 and my address book opens fine from the email program. Any ideas or past experience with this would be a big help.

I recently recovered information from a computer that would not start due to motherboard problems. I have the outlook express folder which let's me import all of the messages back into outlook. I really need the address book and I think that comes in form of a wab file. Is there a copy that gets made automatically on the computer once I create addresses. I have looked but can't find this folder and don't know whether it is possible to get the addresses back! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully this is an easy one. Messing around on my folks' PC, and created an identity on Windows XP for each of my parents. Tried to set it up where Outlook Express could be used identically from both identities, but screwed stuff up. Used the Import/Export from OE to attempt to send the address book and messages to other identity, and now they aren't found in either identity's OE program. When I tried to import the address book back into main identity's OE, an error message stated that it won't retrieve that folder Please help .

I imported my address book from another PC and all the contacts ended up in a single folder, Contacts. No big problem... I was just going to move them by hand into different folders.

But when I click on the New icon, I only get New Contact and New Group... no New Folder.

Thanks, Peter
